In the beginning of the school year, Serenity Luope and Adrian Weila were assigned to the same dorm room. Shocked at first, Serenity starts being vigilant towards him. Unexpectedly, Adrian falls first.

When Jinhee earlier decided to go shopping, she definitely did not want to take Taehee along with her. The female's presence irked Jinhee to no end, and during shopping, when one's mind was required to cool, Taehee was one of the last people Jinhee would want to go with.

Nonetheless, without taking Jinhee's feelings into consideration, Taehee shamelessly tagged along with a big, bright smile on her face. The smile made Jinhee feel like she was being mocked instead of displaying Taehee's happiness.

Earlier when Jinhee went through her closet, she realized that there was nothing appropriate for her to get dressed into for Changmin's invite to his house. Therefore, after classes today, Jinhee decided to purchase a proper outfit for tomorrow's dinner.

As Jinhee was about to leave her room after changing out of her school uniform, Taehee clutched her hand tightly and spoke out on how she wanted to tag along. 

Although Jinhee showed clear objection by replying with 'no', Taehee showed no signs of backing out and seemed more resolute than before. 

Seeing how it will be really late by the time she comes back, Jinhee decided to give up arguing with Taehee and reluctantly, bought her along with Jinhee.


Pulling Jinhee's hand, Taehee voiced out, "Let's go to the lingerie shop. Victoria's secret has some new models."


Jinhee immediately halted in her steps and stared at Taehee with flushed cheeks. Although it was normal for females to shop about such things together, Jinhee felt shy about the matter.


"Go on your own. I don't need one," Jinhee replied. Considering how Taehee was, Jinhee was bound to land in embarrassment if she followed along.


"Don't worry, my little squirrel. I'm sure they have kid's section too," Taehee spoke out teasingly and patted Jinhee head tenderly, adding on to Jinhee's irritation.


"If you are that eager to buy a piece of lingerie, then go in and shop. I have no time to waste here," Jinhee retorted— resolute to walk away from Taehee. 


'If I start running now, would Taehee be able to catch me?'


Nonetheless, that would be an unsuccessful plan for Taehee was more athletic compared to her. Even if she managed to stray away from Taehee's sight, the security guards will deem her as someone suspicious and an unpleasant scene will be created.


Taehee shook her head. "I want to see how those cute lingeries looks on my cute little squirrel."


"I'm not interested in trying them out, and the dormitory closes before eight," Jinhee answered. She wanted to move away from Taehee. However, Taehee's grip on Jinhee's hand made her unable to do so.


"I've already informed that we'll return late." Taehee smiled. "Now, let's get started with the lingeries. If you keep wasting more time arguing, I doubt we'll be able to return to dorm by tonight."


Jinhee sighed. For the sake of her mentality to stay intact, it's probably better for her to go along with Taehee for now. She'll just shake Taehee off in the middle and escape.


"Fine, let's go in."

Suddenly everyone in the crowd came back to their senses, and started yelling about how a dragon isn't even a real animal. "How is this fair? He can't have a mythical creature soul. It has to be a mistake!" someone in the crowd yelled out.
"Everyone calm down!" the principal yelled. The crowd instantly grew quiet and looked up at the principal with questioning looks. "I have never seen an awakened beast being a mythical creature, but that doesn't mean that Alex is any different from other awakens. At this school we admire the strong so if Alex wants to survive it will be using his own skill not relying on his beast transformations." The principal had a serious look on his face as he led Alex off the stage and back to the students' seats. 
After Alex's awakening not many people paid attention to the rest of the students that went up to try and awaken. Instead all the people in the crowd were focused on Alex and many people were wondering what Alex's transformations would look like. All Alex could think about is how much he wanted to start learning about transformations so that he could look as cool as the dragon in his soul.
Soon the awakening ceremony was completed and the spectators left the school grounds. The students were given their dorm numbers and were sent off to put their belongings in the dorms. "207. Were is 207?" Alex asked the teacher that had been standing at the gate before the ceremony.
"207 is to your left for about five minutes." The teacher responded.
"Thanks!" Alex yelled as he ran to find his dorm. After finding dorm number 207 Alex opened the door and found that no one was in the dorm yet. "No one is here yet? Oh! That's right I ran here and everyone else was walking so they will take more time to get to the dorms. Alex through his bag on the bed in the corner of the dorm and then he went to explore the dorm. The dorm had one large bathroom with three showers. There was three small bunk beds in the main room and a small table in the middle of the main room. There was a small back room for storage. Overall Alex thought the dorms were cozy and very good to live in for his school years. 
Alex heard the creak of the door as a short kid walked into the dorm. Alex got up from his bed and introduced himself. "My name is Alex. What is your name?" Alex said while shaking the kid's hand. 
"My name is Jack. You're the person who awakened a dragon, right?" Jack said as he pushed up his glasses.
"That's right! Isn't it awesome! I wonder what my transformations will look like! I hope they look super cool and are powerful." Alex said with a look of excitement blossoming on his face.
*Creak* "Hello. Are you guys My dorm mates? My name is Gregory." A tall muscular teen said after entering the dorm.
"My name is Alex." Alex introduced himself to the new member of the dorm.
"My name is Jack." Jack also introduced himself to their new dorm mate.
"What animals did you guys awaken?" Gregory asked.
Jack was the first to respond. "I awoke a bullfrog. Alex is the person who awoke the dragon."
"Really! You're the dragon soul! You're famous!" Gregory, suddenly surprised, yelled. After a minute of calming down Gregory spoke again. "I awoke a grizzly bear. It seems like this dorm is going to be pretty strong. Maybe we can win the yearly tournament." 
"What's the yearly tournament?" Alex asked.
"You don't know about the tournament? It is the largest event of the year where each dorm competes against each other in battle. The winning team gets rewards for the next year." Jack said in a serious tone.
"That sounds awesome!" Looking excited Alex started mumbling about learning as fast as he could. As Alex was thinking about classes the door to the dorm opened once again. In stepped a skinny kid with long arms and a mischievous smile.
"Hello my name is Sylvester. I heard you talking about the tournament and I think that we have a chance as long as I am here. I awoke a black mamba so as long as I fight for our team no one can defeat us." Sylvester said through a smirk. 
"A black mamba is strong but I awoke a bear so I think I can beat you." Gregory said while flexing his muscular arms.
"And Alex over there is the one who awoke a dragon so he could easily beat both of you." Jack said with a smile.
"He is the one who awoke the dragon! Then there is no way I would be able to beat him in a fight." Sylvester said with a defeated tone.
Suddenly the door opened once again and all the people in the room turned to see a shadowy figure in the door way. 
"So you are the other one who awoke a mythical creature." said the shadow in a sinister voice.

A girl with long dark hair laid peacefully on the white bed of hospital room. Despite the continuous support of the IV that was attached to her left wrist, the paleness in the girl's face was very evident.

Three weeks ago, the girl was rushed to hospital after one of her dorm mates found her delirious with high fever.

It was near the end of the semester before summer break approached.

Students fell sick due to overworking a day before the assignment's deadline was common occurence in University S.

It could be quickly resolved with several days of rest accompanied by consuming nutritious food and lots of water until the body recovers itself.

But after one day rest, instead of getting better, Han Yuelin's body showed signs of becoming weaker.

Her classmates last saw her at class on Monday. Her dorm mate said Han Yuelin was back in her room on Monday night and never passed by her again ever since.

On Wednesday morning, a package arrived for Yuelin.

The dorm mate who also received a delivery carried Yuelin's package to Yuelin's room. She knocked several times but received no answer.

She found that the shoecase in front of the room was still full. So Yuelin should be inside and maybe still asleep.

The dorm mate, Fan Aoning, was very close with Yuelin because they were from the same department.

She and Yueling often came at each other's room to play and study together. The fact that they knew each other's room password just showed how much trust they had with one another.

When Aoning opened the door to drop the package, she found Yuelin's unconscious body and immediately called an ambulance.

The doctor diagnosed Yuelin with an illness called meningitis. Her condition continued to worsen mainly because of exhaustion and lack of proper eating.

On her eighth day of stay in the hospital, Yuelin fell into a coma.

Two weeks flashed by.

It was afternoon break time for the staff at the hospital. There was currently no one inside Yuelin's room.

Yuelin's father will come later after work. Her mother who had stayed vigil was out for lunch at the hospital's canteen. Fan Aoning should be in class now. She usually visited in the morning with some classmates before heading off to campus.

At this time, a gust of wind breezed in through the open window in the room. The wind slightly brushed against Yuelin's body as if caressing it.

Just then, the fingers that had remained still for days suddenly made a small movement.

In her former life, she was a powerful sorceress who can conjure up deadly storm and create rain of blood from the corpse of the fallen soldiers. "Oh man, I wish I was there!" Estelle exclaimed, falling backwards on my bed in a dramatic heap, "Nurses are superheros!" 
Mia's Rubix Cube continued to click as she turned each piece, before our eyes completing the puzzle and placing it gently on the side table. 
"I'm glad you weren't here. Who knows what he would've done to you guys?" I informed. 
"It's nice to see you by the way, Alexis," Ava greeted, placing a hand on Alexis' arm. 
Alexis smiled, "And I thank you guys for getting me down here. Otherwise Landon here wouldn't be here." She looked to me, holding my hand a little tighter. 
"That's a scary thought," Amia commented. 
"Was that the guy who orchestrated the whole kidnapping stuff in the first place?" Amada asked. 
I nodded, "Yeah. I haven't heard from him since like… the first week of school. I kinda forgot about him if I'm honest." I rubbed the side of my neck, feeling the band-aid where he had pricked me with his needle. "Apparently, I'm intimidating."
The girls exchanged chuckles and looks but chose to agree. "I mean, you don't have with us 24/7, if they really put their heads to it, they would've been able to get us," Bonnie dismissed. 
I laughed, "I'm sorry. How currently kidnapped are you?" 
Robyn was sitting on the floor, her back resting on the bed. She looked up to us and started signing. Ava signed back, "We can't all see you, babe." 
Robyn repeated herself once she stood. "Does that mean there's no more danger for everyone? He's not gonna try again?"
I smiled, my signs a touch weaker then Ava's but still understandable. "He won't be coming after us. Kinda hard to talk your way out of bringing a knife into a hospital and trying to poison one of their patients." I looked to the ceiling and sighed. "You guys will be fine. You'll just have to get your own body guards or just be careful from now on. I'd imagine kidnapping is quite a wealthy business." 
Amia frowned, "Why? What's happening to you?"
I snorted, looking to the others who seemed just as confused as Amia. "Guys? Come on, I'm in a hospital bed. I just suffered heart failure. I'm back to bloody square one with this. I'm in no condition to be a Dorm Guard, I'm in no condition to fulfil my scholarship either. I have no clue what's gonna happen now."
"Is the school kicking you out?" Ava asked. 
I shrugged and rubbed my face, "My parents are sorting it out now."
"I hope you don't get kicked out," Bonnie announced. 
"Your concern is touching," I said. 
"What're your plans, Alexis?" Amia asked. 
Alexis shrugged, sitting on one of the chairs by my bed, the moment she did Mia made her way from my side to her side. "Go back to New York," she informed, "Try and keep in touch with all of you a bit better than I have been." 
"What about you and Landon?" Bonnie added bluntly. 
We paused, despite her being blind, we offered each other a glance. "We're not going to force a relationship right now," she answered, "But, who knows. One year isn't that long. The past one went by in the blink of an eye." Alexis smiled her warm, kind smile, as she nodded, "We aren't gonna give up on us. It's just a matter of waiting until it's right to continue it." Her hand found mine and she held my fingertips, all the while keeping that beautiful smile.

The girls and Amada stayed in the hospital with me for as long as they could, almost getting physically kicked out when Estelle refused on behalf of all of them. I was never lonely however. My parents and my sisters came to the hospital the next day, my little sisters giving me plastic flowers because, according to Percy the eldest of them, 'they are better then real flowers. They will last longer.' 
It was nice to see them after so long. Video chat only accomplished so much in the way of speaking to them. 
"You were very silly," Percy told me, "It's not good for you to have a heart attack." I had been so use to hearing sarcasm over the past few days that hearing Percy say that with such seriousness prompted an involuntary laugh that confused her. 
"A bad man made me have a heart attack, Percy," I assured her, delicately patting her shoulder as she clasped her hands. 
"Than the bad man is silly," she corrected, "Heart attacks are not good for people." 
Kassandra, who was sitting on the floor playing with a slinky, cooed in agreement as she got distracted by my machine. 
Mum, Dad and my sisters kept me company during the day, and the girls kept me company in the afternoon, sure to dish out the latest gossip or the strange rumours going around to explain my absence. The most interesting one was that I was off digging for treasure at the pyramids. 
My Father wasn't impressed by that description, "What have you been telling your classmates we've been doing the last few years?"
I was worried my dormmates wouldn't like my sisters, or that my sisters wouldn't like them. Percy especially didn't like new people, but she grew a liking to Mia, likely because she didn't talk. 
Alexis had to leave a few days later, assuring us she would call as soon as she made time. While I couldn't see her off, Estelle used FaceTime to have me watch Alexis get on the train again. This time is wasn't as painful, I even smiled as I waved her off. 
I lost a few hospital desserts to my dormmates when we played card games in the hospital. Between doctor and nurse consultations and a few clarifications with the police, I realised just how much I relied on my friends and family to break up my day. 
My scholarship was up in the air for a while. But, my Mum being her, assured the Principal, Mr Wittman, that I would be fine. And I did. Within the first week, I was growing antsy in the hospital room, I wanted to go for a run or go down to Windmill Lake and soak in some sun, just anything other then staring at the white ceiling all day. 
It was so liberating walking out of the hospital doors. It was midmorning, and the sun was warm while the wind was cool. 
It was a tearful goodbye from my parents and siblings when I was cleared and medically safe. Kassandra pleaded her case that she would stay with me and organise my new medicines, a plea which had been very quickly denied by my Mother. 
It was like the year had decided, 'that's enough excitement for this dormitory.' The last term went off without or very little incident. 
There were no more kidnapping threats, no severe High School drama, Robyn had gotten back into dancing, to which Ava never missed a performance, and Alexis called every third or fourth day. I got back into my workout routine with Amada and was accepted as a first considered player for next year's team. 
Mia got out of her shell more, took up more opportunities with the cheer squad and her developing piano skills. Even though she was the cheerleader, the way we followed her to every recital would lead you to believe we were her cheerleaders, Estelle especially. Amada and Bonnie started dating and seemed incredibly happy with each other. My dormmates were happy. I was happy.
We watched as Alexis' year graduated, receiving their certificates, and that bubble of anticipation formed in my stomach at the idea that that would be me next year. For the first time in a while, I was excited, I wanted to get started, I felt like I could take on the world. 
By the summer, we had all moved out of our dormitory, pending new placement for the new year. 
Estelle had expressed her worry that we may not all end up in the same dorm again. 
And she was right. 
Before the holidays were over, the new dormitory allocations had come out. I was the Dorm Guard again, but for a different address, and only the twins were following me to this dorm. From what I gathered, everyone had gotten scattered in smaller groupings, and apparently Robyn moved back to England, taking Ava with her. 
Our happy, angelic world seemed to disappear in the time we were all away from each other. I heard from none of them over the summer, not a call or a text or an email. I remembered when everyone came together, we would chatt, we laughed, we joked, we shared. Even Robyn and Ava making periodic phone calls to stay in our lives came to an end rather quickly as they went on with their lives. 
And I was strangely okay with it. 
I was okay with seeing only the same familiar faces of Amada and Amia in my new dorm, I was okay with meeting my new dormmates, I was okay with the weekly phone calls from Alexis, I was okay with where my heart condition was at the moment, I was okay with my life. 
The only time I grew worried was when school did go back. Like usual, I rode into school on my bike, getting waves and nods of recognition from classmates from my year and years below me, and shy looks from the newcomers seeing me for the first time. 
When I parked my bike by the shed, where I had a nice conversation with the new gardener, I wandered back over to the courtyard, watching the groupings form and listening to the scattered chatter of the students. My friends not amongst them, and I grew worried that maybe they weren't together. That the summer had separated us too much. 
"Hey! Dorm Guard!" 
I straightened my posture and turned, watching Estelle make her over-animated arm gesture as she waved me over. Bonnie, Mia, Amada, Amia, and Estelle all sitting at a picnic table, beaming excited smiles at the sight of me as they waved as well. 
I, for the first time in a long time, was truly happy, as I waved back and walked over to them, embracing each other like life-long friends.

"Look, mom, I understand that dad has a new girlfriend, but I am not going to accept the fact she is my age!" Naomi cried.
"Honey, you're going to have to if you want your father to be happy," her mother replied, the crack that was normally in her voice beginning to become worse.
"Wouldn't it make him a pedophile though?"
"Love is love. Age is just a number. If I started dating someone that was 14 years old, you would accept it, right?"
"Yeah, but-"
"Okay then. Now come downstairs. Your food's getting cold," her mother smiled.
"Okay, mom. Just a minute, though."
"Okay, sweetie. Just be sure to hurry up." her mother said, walking over towards the door back inside the apartment building.
Naomi breathed in the cool, greasy air of New York City, noticing that someone was smoking a blunt.
"Crazy people. Don't they know that isn't going to set a good example for the kids around the area? So strange-"
"I'm late, I'm late, I'm very, very late!" something around her cried and she heard a small patter of footfalls echo around her. "I'm late, I'm late, I'm oh-so-very late!"
"Late for what?" she called out.
 As she moved her head around to see what was around her, she saw a small figure dash towards her and leap into the air above her. She swore she could hear a clock ticking loudly and saw rabbit ears on the figure's head.
"I am late for the execution!" it cried in a small voice, falling down into the deep darkness below to the bustling road beneath her.
'What could they have been smoking to the point where I am hallucinating people jumping off buildings and talking about executions?' she wondered, backing up slowly. A hand passed directly over her head and a tall, handsome, sleek young man sailed over her, fading in and out, in and out again, also slipping gracefully into the busy street with a grin on his face.
"Crazy white rabbit, you're going to be early and make the king chop your daughter's head off for earliness," he said, winking at me and disappearing into the road.
New Yorkers at this time knew that if they saw something that seemed messed up or out of the blue, stop whatever you are smoking, snorting, or chewing and leave. 
Naomi thought that she was getting the buzz from the blunt and turned to go home. Rushing towards the door, she felt a chilling presence surround her.
"Hellllllllllo, Aliccccccccce....." a cold, heartless voice said. Pulling her dangerously close the edge, she struggled to get from the heavy grip. She was able to get away and ran to her apartment room to find the door hanging off of its edges and her mom's head lying on the table next to her body, its mouth twisted into an eerie smile.
"Hi, Alice. Long time, no see," the head said.
"I AM NOT ALICE! WHO IS ALICE?"

"Girl, wake up!" her sister, Freya, cried, shaking Naomi vigorously by her shoulders. "Wake up!"
Her eyes shot open and she struggled to take in her surroundings. She wasn't at her mother's apartment complex; she was actually in her dormitory.
Her roommate on the other side of the room was on the phone, calling in the nurse for the third time this week and it was only Tuesday.
"Yeah, I don't what is wrong with her. No signs of hallucinations while awake?" the nurse asked once she got to the dorm room.
"No."
"Taking any medications that cause hallucinations, like ketamine or mescaline?"
"I don't have any prescriptions that have those since I am allergic to the ingredients."
"Hm. Interesting...."
"What's interesting?"
"You aren't showing any side effects of hallucinating nor insanity, so I have nothing to tell you. Is it a lost memory?"
"No, my mother is still alive and I had never seen those people before in my life. I have a good memory so I couldn't have forgotten those people."
"Okay. Tell me if it happens again."
"This is why I didn't want to show you the movie "Alice in Wonderland". You are used to horror films so your mind made it into a horror film." my roommate, Mindy, said after she closed the door. 
"That is not true because I love horror films and never have nightmares from them. So that isn't a possible explanation. I will talk to mom about it."
"You still haven't told her?" Freya asked.
"I have never had a nightmare before, so this is going to physically shock her. I don't want her to have another heart attack."
"Are you still blaming yourself for it?" Freya asked, moving to hold her sister's hand.
"Yes," Naomi said, allowing her to.
"It wasn't your fault!"
"Yes, it was!" Naomi said, snatching her hand away and staring at it.
"No, it wasn't! We had to tell her eventually, otherwise, she was going to find out and kill us both. And plus, it was my fault for getting pregnant with Taylor and Sarah. "
"I blame myself because I knew about it and never told her until you blacked out that one time during that party!" Naomi said, tears falling down her face.
"It's okay, it's okay. Don't cry, don't cry," Freya said, trying to comfort her sister while Mindy looked at her with pity.
"You could have died!" Naomi sobbed, holding for dear life onto her sister.
"But I didn't. I'm still here today, right?"
"Yeah..." Naomi said, slowly letting up her tears.
"Okay. Speaking of Taylor and Sarah, I have to pick them up from school. Wanna tag along?"
"Nah. I gotta go visit mom."
"Oh, well... Good luck."
"I won't need luck; I would need a hope and a prayer that she won't even faint."
"Yeah," Freya chuckled, walking towards the door and leaving.
"How long will you be gone?"
"Not long. Why?"
"You are going to be cooking today," Mindy said happily.
"A time like this and you are worried about food?"
"Yep!" she grinned.
'That grin looks similar to the one in my dream...' Naomi thought as she looked for her car keys. 'Why does your grin look similar to the one in my dream' she thought as she stepped out of the door of her room.

We got back to SNPC and once again Mary showed me the way back to my dorm. She helped me get all my stuff to the porch of my dorm. "Thanks Mary, I guess I'll see you later." "No problem, if you ever need to talk about anything, my office is room 319 and my number is 469-764-8972." "Thanks Mary." 


       I started bringing my stuff in my room of the dorm when my dorm mates noticed how much I had. "We could help you if you want." Max said. "We could?" asked Melanie to David. Max elbowed Melanie, "Yes, we could." "Thank you, I really appreciate it." I said. "Cool, so what can we do to help?" Melanie asked. "Just bring my stuff outside of my room, I can take care of the rest." "You got it." Max said. 


       Soon enough all of my stuff was put up in my room the way

 I wanted it to be. "Thanks guys, you didn't have to do that." I said after I was done. "Hey, that's what friends are for." Max replied with  a smile. "It's nice to know I have friends here. I'm still not used to living here and having supernatural powers." "You'll get used to it eventually." Melanie said right before she hugged me.


       "So you start your classes tomorrow right?" David asked. "Yeah, I'm a little nervous. I've never had supernatural classes before. What are they like?" "Well, in supernatural classes they teach us how to use our powers. The more we learn about them and practice them, the stronger they get." David said. "They also teach us some spells to use when defending ourselves, or spells to use in general." Max added. "Some spells take up more energy than others. Some are really easy to cast, others aren't." Melanie said. "I guess that doesn't sound so bad." I said. 


       "So, what are your classes?" Melanie asked. "My first period is advanced math and fire magic. My second period is advanced english and emotion control. My third period is advanced chemistry and basic spells. My fourth period is advanced history and weather control. My fifth period is magical self defense. My sixth period is  sun/light magic. My seventh period is art and my eighth period is a cooking class."


       "The cooking class sounds fun. Does that mean you'll cook for us?" Max asked with a hopeful smile. I laughed "Sure, just not everyday."  "Speaking of cooking, we really need to eat dinner. Any suggestions?" Melanie said. "Lasagna?" David asked. "I don't know how to make lasagna." Max said. "I usually cook because these two have no cooking ability." Max explained. "Oh. Well, I know how to make lasagna. I could show you how." I offered. "That would be great, thanks." Max replied.


       Max and I went to the store within the supernatural community to get what we needed. When we arrived back at the dorm we started cooking. We put the lasagna in the oven and talked while we waited for it to be ready. 


       "Have you always known you were a supernatural being?" I asked. "No, I found out when I was thirteen years old. I thought it was super cool when all of the sudden I could talk to my dog. My parents caught me talking to him one day and sent me here. I've been here ever since." "That sounds terrible. Do you ever miss your parents?" I asked concerned. "Yeah, but we talk on the phone almost every day and video chat a few times every now and then." 


       "Well at least you can still talk to your parents." I said sadly. "I'm sorry you lost parents. I can't even imagine the pain it puts you through." "Yeah, it's really hard going on in life without them. The first night I came here I cried for two hours. I just want my parents back so badly. I can't believe they're really gone." I felt my eyes start to water then I looked down at my feet. A single tear rolled down my face. Max tilted my head back up and wiped my tear away. "You'll get through this, I promise." Max wrapped me in a tight bear hug. The timer on the oven went off. Max let me go and took the lasagna out of the oven. "Wow that smells good." He looked at me "It's gonna be ok." he said sympathetically. "Eventually." I replied with a sad smile. 


       I wiped the rest of my tears away and called out "Dinner's ready!" Melanie and David came in and we all ate our dinner. After dinner David did the dishes, Max wiped down the counters, Melanie swept the floor, and I took the trash out.


       I was standing outside by the trashcan when a shadow-like creature appeared, at first I thought I was seeing things but then it tried to attack me. On instinct I shot a small ball of light at it and it disappeared, leaving behind a small black rock. I picked it up and put it in my pocket.


       When I went back inside I said goodnight to everyone then went to bed. I don't know what that shadow thing was or why it left behind that rock, but I was tired and had to be up early the next day for my new school.

All students were on their way to their dorm rooms. 

A guy accidently pushed Munya causing her to trip and fall over, but Kashala caught her before she dropped on the floor. 

She instantly recognized him to be her long lost older brother, and was bewildered and perplexed to see him. 

Her heart beat faster and her face turned red.

"Kashala…" She said.

"Munya, are you alright?" He asked as he let her go. 

Kashala gave her a hug. 

"I'm back." He said. 

Munya was in tears when he said that. 

"Welcome back…" She said as she hugged him back.

Kashala stood in front of the door of his dorm room. 

"Hey!" Atik said as he went up to him. 

"Hi."

"I'm Atik Arsalan." He said. "I'm also assigned to this room. Nice to meet you... Kashala, right?" 

"Yeah." He said. "It's nice to meet you too."

Kashala and Atik entered their dorm room together. Therein they met Adriaan Bries, Aman Madani and Tom Regenwoud. 

"There you are Atik." Aman said. 

"What took you so long?" Adriaan asked.

"I went to the toilet."

"You three are already acquainted?" Tom asked.

"Yes, we're friends and went to the same high school together." Atik said. 

"I see."

"We don't really have to introduce ourselves to each other, since we already saw on the text message who we are." Adriaan said. "So let's go to the classroom." 

Tom grabbed him by his shoulder and said: "Come on now Adriaan Bries, that's no fun right? I'm Tom Regenwoud, nice to meet y'all." 

"I'm Atik Arsalan. Well it's nice meeting you two, Tom, Kashala."

"And I'm Aman Madani, let's all get along."

"I'm Kashala Kanda. Yes, let's get along."

Chisa and Esmee were on their way to their dorm room together.

"So I'm Chisa Nishida, it's nice to meet you Esmee."

"Likewise."

"Let's be friends." 

"Friends?" She said confused. "We've just met and therefore barely know anything about each other."

"So?" She said. "We'll get to know each other better with time." 

The two entered their dorm room wherein they met Sifra Woestijn, one of their roommates.

"Good morning. I'm Chisa Nishida and you already know who this girl next to me is. It's nice to meet you."

"Good morning, Esmee and Chisa. It's nice to meet you too."

Hannah Liefdevol and Munya entered the dorm room.

"There you are Munya." Esmee said. "What took you so long to get here?" 

"I'll tell you about it later."

"So you're Munya Badila." Chisa said. "Hello, I'm Chisa Nishida. It's nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you too Chisa."

"Were you and Esmee already acquainted?"

"Yes, we're best friends."

"Cool." She said. "And hello there, Hannah Liefdevol. I really like your surname."

"Liefdevol" means "lovingly" in English.

"Hello and thank you!" She said.

"Now that everyone is here, let's go to the classroom and meet our classmates." Chisa said. 

Chisa and her roommates entered the classroom. The guys were already there. Kashala's eyes met that of Munya, and Esmee noticed that.

"Munya, is that…" Esmee said.

"Kashala!" Chisa said as she, Sifra and Hannah went up to them.

"That's why it took me a while to get to the dorm room. I was processing the fact that he has indeed returned." Munya said.

"I met him in the main hall." She said, surprising her. "He was seated right next to me. I already had my suspicion that he could indeed be the Kashala you know, but I disregarded that thought due to the fact that he has a different surname."

"He got kicked out of the family because he has a different mother. He used to have "Badila" as his surname, but I guess the family changed his surname to "Kanda", which I assume is that of his late mother."

Esmee and Munya took seats at the table their roommates and the guys sat at.

"What's this?" A man stopped walking, having just left an ATM, and looked down at an eye-catching black card, with a silver globe, laying on the pavement. 

"There's no name, that's odd…" He rotated the card around his fingers trying to find some sort of identifier anywhere. Nothing initially seemed special about the card: the material was a cheap plastic, the chip was undamaged, and the numbers were printed onto the front. The strangeness lied with the card had no name and no expiration date. If it didn't have an interesting appearance Ferro would have simply tossed it in the trash. He instead took out a pen to sign the back before he tucked it into his pocket.


"I'M LATE!" With the same clothes on from yesterday, Ferro jumped out of his bed and dashed out of his dorm. 

"Ferro slow down!" A male student shouted in return from Ferro running right by him in the stairwell.

"I can't, class started 5 minutes ago! Dr. Leeds, is going to murder me!" He called back not daring to slow down. The fifth of a mile run from his dorm to the lecture hall was done in record time of just shy of a minute. He slowly snuck in back and found a seat in the back row heavily panting and fell into his place. 

He thought he had escaped punishment, "Ferro could explain, can you explain how the solve the equation?"

"One moment." He was stilling catching his breath.

"You would use the power rule changing the 3x^3 + 4x^2 to 9x^2 + 8x. If you were to say the rule without numbers it would be…" He went into further detail than needed to answer the question.

"Kiss ass." The girl beside him commented with a slight laugh after he sat back down.

"Better than being murdered for being late." He replied a similar laugh escaping him as well.

"How many times is that now?"

"6" 

"We've only had this class for 6 days!" They were whispering back and forth but the shock was greatly evident in her voice.

"Oh, and how many time have you been late then?" A smirk was clearly shown on his face ready to rebuke her.

"…5…" She whispered even quieter.

"What was that?" His smirk grew wider.

"5…"

"Oh, and who was making snarky comments about my lateness?"

"Class is going on, you should be paying attention."

"Whatever you say, Jacklyn."

When the class came to an end Ferro and Jacklyn, engaged in idle conversation, leisurely walked out. Ferro had taken notice of the time and suggested grabbing lunch before their next class. 

"Where's my swipe…" Rummaging through his pockets he found he was missing both his college swipe and room key.

"Did you forget your card in your dorm?" It wasn't obvious but there was little chance she wasn't stifling a laugh.

"Highly likely." He turned his pockets inside out to find no swipe, but the black card rolled out. Picking it up he found it be different from yesterday. The name now printed on the card, was his own the same cursive writing he had done for the back of the card. 

"That's a cool card. Where'd you get it?" Jacklyn peered over his shoulder as he reexamined the card.

"Found it on the street following my trip to the ATM." 

"It had your name on it though."

"Wrote it on myself great penmanship, right?" He casually bragged trying to change the topic. The two then drifted apart as Jacklyn went to the café to eat lunch while Ferro went to the campus ATM to see the card.

When he inserted the card he was unsurprised to see it ask for a 4-digit pin. 

"1 in every 10 people use 1234."

"Welcome, you must be the new intern." A deep masculine echoed from the ATM. Ferro was perplexed as he heard the voice but no options appeared on the screen. The screen was completely black with a rotating silver globe much like the card. The silver globe was attached to a flawless white rod making out a simple yet excellent scepter. 

"That's a cool trick, whose running this?" Ferro called a bright smile across his face. 

"This isn't some trick."

"Oh, yea of course. What do you want then?" Ferro was unwilling to believe the voice, but when he tried to remove the card he found himself unable. His initial thought was whoever is behind this was trying to get bank account info.

"It doesn't matter if you believe me or not but by inserting the Black Card you became my intern."

"Okay and being your intern entails what? Getting your coffee? Doing your reports? Recording lectures?"

"Nothing like that. The company will be giving the intern, you, 1,500 dollars to which the intern has to spend by the week's end."

"Sounds cool, where will the 1,500 be deposited? You're going to such an extent for this con might as well entertain you."

"You think this 1,500 will come without rules?" To which Ferro shook his head no.

"Rule 1: If the intern doesn't spend the stiffen, he will receive a punished believed to be equal to the remaining amount."

"This is getting a bit too elaborate…"

"Seems like you're not a complete idiot, shocker. Others fainted when they heard my voice so I guess you are doing better than them."

"Oh, so I'm not the first?"

"There are other rules but they aren't relevant to you. The money is in your PayPal."

"Sounds good, bye!" Ferro proceeded to take the card out of the ATM before he checked his PayPal through his phone. He was surprised to find there was 1,500 sitting there. He was proud and made his way to the dining store to get food now that he could pay. This person was so rich to hand out 1,500 he might as well spend it. Also, he was never a person to take unnecessary risks. Better to spend and not be punished than to not and be hurt.

Walking through the dining store he held nothing back and bought foods he wouldn't even be eating anytime soon. Looking back at his PayPal amount it was down almost fifty dollars. He had also learned that by using the card it took directly from his PayPal. He opened a spreadsheet on his phone and wrote down his normal expenses to get an idea of how much extra he would be spending. He found spending a thousand wouldn't be a challenge the last 500 was bugging him though. His first thought was upgrading the appliances in his room. He was happy to see a fridge for 469. He made the decision that after classes he would drive over and pick it up.

Even as Ferro sat through the accounting class he was completely preoccupied with what the best way to spend the money. The thousand he initially did was later seen to be too high so he lowered it by 400 and looked for a new suit. Google was his best friend as he flipped through some clothes stores browsing suits around 400. After this, he would see how much was left over and would do some math.

He was broken away from the musing when the professor dismissed class. Ferro was in no rush so he made his way out and to the dorm hall waiting for someone to come by. This was the first time Ferro regretted going to a small college, it took a solid five minutes for someone to leave or go in the dorm hall. He made his way down the basement and to his room thankful he never locked his room. He didn't see his roommate's things there so he knew he was still out with his girlfriend.

Ferro grabbed his keys and wallet before directly making his way out and to the car lot.

It isn’t for beauty or religion. It is because of greed. So, isn’t it money that drives us in our choices? 

A father used to tell his kids, following his divorce, “If I had a million dollars our problems would be solved.” 

Though when money falls in your lap it is never without rules. His predecessors found themselves lost to greed. Would he be any different? Isn’t it the fate of all humans?

Don’t try and say you’re unique in that you won’t be enchanted by the seduction of money. Some men thought the same before they heard the welcoming voice of the entity dubbed -- Specter. 

Of the more than 100 billion people that have ever walked the earth would you believe every one of them is unique? That not a single of them would be the same? That’s hysterical, maybe you are unique in your own way from your own past self, but to say every person is different is ignorant.
