Piece of Advice and my thoughts on All these new Fanfics and novels

Give me ideas or criticism you think will help my writing go further, i want to try writing for a job but am obviously new. thanks

Tom's, once again, feels the warmth and nostalgia of the darkness from when he died. Although it felt more contained as if there were walls around him. In an instant, he heard a voice it was calm kind and beautiful.

???-" HOST system has been integrated"

Tomas-"..... Eve?!?"

Eve-" Guess I can't hide my presence from you." as she giggled.

Tomas-" I have questions... like, a lot of questions"

Eve-" Well, we have about 3 weeks to talk, so ask away"

Tomas-" Why only 3 weeks? How are you here, I don't have your AI chip? Lastly, this is my mother's womb correct?"

Eve-"My positioning in this world is not as your AI but as your system and yes, you are in your mother's womb. You are only 3 weeks away from birth."

Tomas-" Ok, so what are the functions of your system Eve?"

Eve-" You have Status, Shop, Mini Map, Shields(Aura) and Health bars, along with the zone function you asked for. You use them by thinking about them, except the Aura and Health bars are under HUD. Also, since I always thought your eyes were special I asked God to give you an ability. At this point, I believe the ability is called observation."

Tomas-" Thanks Eve! Will this be a short 3 weeks or is it going to be a cram session for system information?"

Eve-" It will be along 3 weeks. By the way, the shop is closed till you enter Signal or Beacon Academy. Shall we start the lessons or I can do a brain dump? It would have all the information you need to operate the system as you did your spartan armor previously. Although, that does not mean you will know all it's uses."

Tomas-" You can do that?! Then please do the brain dump..."

Eve-" I will warn you it will be painful."

Tomas laughed and said "Nothing we haven't been through Eve"

Eve-" Starting now. The pain will subside in 2 weeks please do not pass out or you will not get all the information."

Tomas suddenly felt like he was back on the operating tables of the Spartan program, with pain in all parts of his body. It felt like he was being burned and frozen at the same time. and his eyes felt like they were bleeding. However, he couldn't yell or cry, he could only take it as he didn't want to hurt his mother.

Two weeks later Tomas felt the pain stop and asked -" Eve is it over?"

Eve-" Yes, it is over Tomas. Although it took longer than expected, you have 8 minutes before birth. Please Prepare! Also, a new function was added due to the extra time." Tomas was quiet as he thought what happens next.
Tomas-" What is the New function Eve."

Eve-" The new function is Inventory. It holds things. For now, it can only hold 4 things, however, the size of such things and the things inside of them do not count. Inventory slots increase by 2 every year." When Eve finished explaining he felt a slight pull and said.-" Is there anything else before I go through this?"

Eve-" You have a starting package in your inventory, but I recommend opening it later because it summons the objects inside in front of you."

Tomas-" Good to know. Thank you
 Eve, talk to you in a bit." The slight pulls from before began again and after a while be felt the air on his body. Although it wasn't pleasant as it stung his new skin. He couldn't see very well but, What he could see was a beautiful pale woman with reddish-black hair along with cat ears to match. She has purple eyes that match the night sky and a soft smile that makes his worry melt away. Then suddenly he heard a voice.
???-" I knew it would be a boy Lucy!" 
It was a man with brown hair and green eyes his skin brown as if he was outside a lot.

Lucy-" Oh shut up Aaron. There will be no yelling when the baby is near, you dunce. What if you hurt his ears." As she looked at the child in her arms giggling and said-" Your name is Tom, Tom Bannsworth."
Tom fell asleep as he heard.

Aaron-" I like it, honey, it fits the boy."

He soon fell asleep as his mother's arms are soothing. He felt the environment change, as for when he woke up he saw a ceiling made out of wood.

Story of a young man named Tomas that died saving everyone without them knowing and brought back to a world familiar to him. It has a little bit of romance a lot of fun.

Around 2 days passed before Lawrence's was finally able to learn his mother's name and his birth date by snooping and eavesdropping on pretty much every one of her conversations. It's not like he could help it, he was literally stuck there without the ability to move. 
       His mother's name is Lissandra Napier, and apparently, she is his only parent. His birthday was March 6th, 1985, a decade before the events of Captain Marvel, and over 20 years before the events of the Avengers. Lawrence never saw his father or heard his mother speak of him, so he didn't really care. 
       The benefits of an adult mind are that he was already well adjusted to the darkness of life and understood that sometimes certain things were just not meant to be. The cons of having to adult mind are being forced to do his business in diapers and lets just not mention breastfeeding. 
       Moving on, he was perfectly happy with having just his mom, especially with all the love that radiated from her soul.
       Lawrence luckily was able to control who he saw with his soul sight, so he had yet to use it on another person. 
       After two days at the hospital, they were finally discharged, and his mom brought to his new home. 
       "Welcome to your new home my little angel, I know it's not the best, but I will make sure you only have happy memories here. This is going to be your home little Law; I hope you love it" His mother cooed as she brought him into their cozy two-bedroom apartment. (authors note Lawrence is going to be referred to as Law from this point on)
       The apartment was clean, discounting the dust that had settled on the ground from being away for a few days. It was a rather sparse apartment with nothing of there being nothing of note except for a fully decked out baby room in the second bedroom. 
       His crib was currently in his mother's room, but Law could tell that she went all out in baby proofing and p*mping out what he could only assume was his room. It was filled to the brim with plush toys, rattles, and a small bookcase filled with children's books. 
       It filled his heart with such warmth and joy that he wanted to start crying but held back as to not make his mother worry. Every moment with her healed the cracks that formed in his past life. Every day whenever he was not sleeping, he spent within his mother's reach. When he slept, he used his soul technique and began forming his ki and body cultivation methods.
       This task could not be compared with compiling a soul strengthening technique, there were literally millions of cultivation techniques Law needed to read, sort, and use to compile his perfect ki-refiner cultivation technique and his perfect fiend-god cultivation technique. 
       The ki-refiner cultivation path referred to the ability for cultivation to refine element ki in one's body more and dantian. This allows on to control elemental ki, create Artifacts, control magic treasures and utilize magical formations. Training involves increasing one's understanding of Dao and absorbing enough elemental essence.
       The FiendGod body refining path requires one to train their body in order to acquire boundless strength, heightened senses, and even the ability to regenerate from a single drop of blood. The source of power for a FiendGod body refiner continuously refines as they grow stronger. This allows them to use a variety of divine abilities.
       This was going to take years to finish and without a suitable technique, his foundation would not be stable enough for him to break through higher levels. Thus, Law decided to start his cultivation when he became 5 and hopefully finished creating his perfect cultivation techniques for both paths. 
       'Damn it, why couldn't I just asked for a stupidly broken power like Saitama's strength, or the f***ing rinnegan, but no I had to wish for the tedious ability to have to cultivate.' Law couldn't help but curse in his mind.
       Until Law finished his cultivation techniques, he would do his best to keep his body in perfect shape, and to help improve his mother and his living situation. With newfound determination to take the world by a storm, he pooped and started crying for his diaper to be changed. 
       "Aww, little Law what's wrong did you go poopy. Don't worry I'll have you changed in a jiffy". His doting mom said as she picked him up to change his diaper. 
       'Before taking the world by a storm, I must first potty train myself as soon as I can walk. Being changed by my mother who is younger than my mental age is humiliating.' Law thought as he was being carried away.

—Time Skip—
March 1st, 1990

       "Are you dressed yet Law, don't make me come in there and dress you myself. Breakfast is ready in about 10 mins you better hurry up or it will get cold." His mother's light scolding tone could be heard from outside his door.
       Inside the room, one could see a cute 5-year-old boy with long shaggy crimson hair, a pale white complexion, bright purple eyes, lean thin body, and was around 3'5 feet tall.
       "Coming mom, I'll be out in about 2 mins" Yelled back Law determined to keep his slight independence. The Law ignored his mother's warning he was forced to sleep with her and get dressed by her for a week. 
       'Damn, it's been 5 years already huh. I can't believe I just finished it today, well I guess I'll get started at night today.' Law couldn't help but think.
       Five years had passed since his birth, and honestly, Law couldn't be happier with his current life. He started crawling when he was 3 months old, he started walking after 4 months, said his first-word "mama" after 6 months, and could hold a proper conversation by the age of 1. At least he had cemented his image as a genius in his mother's eyes. 
       After every single event, his mother would cry and hug him for hours after, not that Law had any problems with staying in his mother's embrace. He had also managed to strengthen his soul enough to hold 20 memory partitions, he also now appeared in his 5-year-old form in his mindscape instead of his 30-year-old past form. 
       Law's room also went through some changes, he now had a small little bed in the corner of his room, with a box for all the toys, and his shelf had leveled up with a second layer and more advanced books, such as novels.
       His mother is a rather successful writer and editor for her 'uncle's' newspaper in Queens. Although there was no such this as a maternity leave yet, she was able to work from home because of her job. 
       Apparently, the newspaper's owner was a family friend that took her in when she was kicked out by her parents when she got pregnant with him. Lissandra is the only daughter of a rich couple who owned a couple of successful wineries in New York. When they had found out about Lissandra's pregnancy, they disowned her, cut her off and kicked her to the curb heartlessly, how ironic. 
       Moving on, he still did not access his cultivation dimension yet because he did not want to worry his mom by suddenly disappearing, and he didn't want his body to mature faster than average.
       He would have to start school when he was 6 so he had about a year before starting the hell known as elementary school, at least his mother didn't make him go to kindergarten.
        Finally, Law had finished his cultivation techniques. That's right, he had completed the insane task of going through millions of cultivation manuals so that he could make the perfect cultivation techniques. 
His techniques were called…
       "Law if you don't come out right now, I am going to come in there and dress you right now. We have to leave soon to go see my friend" His mother called out in an annoyed tone from what he assumed was the kitchen.

The Marvel World has a variety of powers and abilities. Just how much havoc and change can a single cultivator bring into the mix. Well, we are about to find out.

Time passed quickly and was now nearing the peak of noon. By this hour, many of those who ventured out earlier were beginning to return from their morning quest.
One such group was the party led by the mohawk youth known as Weizer; he was currently in a good mood and was humming while strolling across the fields. His two lackeys that saw this couldn't help but smile as they conversed amongst themselves.
"The young master has finally achieved Level 6; with this, he should be one step ahead of this new batch of brats and only behind the Gold Spear Boy and that Child of Blaze..." One of them said with a joyous expression.
"Indeed, so long as the master achieves Stage 6 in his Mountain Axe Style, then I dare say he might even grow comparable to those freaks," The other lackey said with a smile.
Weizer felt proud when he heard his lackeys bootlicking. He knew that he was approaching the stage where he could officially rise to fame. He thought with a smile, 'Just a bit more, a little further and I can strive and overawe the world in a single flash!'
Weizer then gripped his fists as he spoke with firm eyes, "Hmph! For daring to look down on me I'll let my family see that they were wrong! I Weizer am a true genius, and no one should be better than me!'
The lackeys hearing his words nodded and bootlicked, as they spoke separately.
"Haha, Young Master Weizer is right, you are guaranteed to make it!"
"If our young master can't, then no one should!"
Weizer, who felt good, was about to say something, but soon, he couldn't help but frown as he saw a familiar figure moving towards the Bamboo Grove. His body was covered in bits of blood and a sea of corpses was behind him, some of them even belonged to strange looking wolves, while the majority were goblins.
Weizer frowned as he spoke his thoughts out loud, "Hmm? Isn't that the pretty face bum from yesterday? Did he kill those Inferior Grade monsters by himself?"
The two lackeys knew of Nero's strength; they shook their heads as one of them replied with a sneering expression.
"Young Master, that's impossible; his strength was absolutely meager when battling against the Initiation Slime, there is no way that he can currently stand in front of an Inferior Grade monster much less kill them! I feel that he was more or likely on the brink of death, and some kind soul must have helped him out of pity," The lackey said.
Weizer frowned as he heard these words, he carefully eyed Nero, noticing that he was holding a bloody sword as he limped while walking away from the carnage.
He thought, 'It doesn't make sense, then why is he still heading into the woods? He should have already known of his limitations, che! Fine, it doesn't matter, this kind of trash isn't worth paying attention to, even if he did kill them, they are, in the end no more than mere Inferior Grade monsters.'
The lackeys thought he wasn't pleased with Nero appearing; their faces turned cold as one spoke.
"Young Master, if you're not feeling well around him, then shall we go slap some sense into him?"
Weizer shook his head at this and replied with an annoyed look, "What do you take me for? Do I look like some third-rate young master from fiction? Stop yapping and let's go!"
As he said this, he once more continued on his way, only this time he wasn't humming. The lackeys didn't dare to dally, and promptly followed while speaking, 'A-As the young maser wishes!'
While walking, Weizer was thinking about how to practice his technique to the next stage. But at this time, a figure had appeared not too far from them.
He was a simple-looking youth with sharp eyes and short yellowish hair that was of an undercut hairstyle. He wore decent looking leather armor instead of the beginner martial uniforms as a bow and a quiver was on his back.
Weizer glanced at this youth and narrowed his eyes, but he didn't say anything and only continued moving with his lackeys.
After a short while, Weizer's party had left the new person's vicinity, as only the sounds of the flowing winds and distant battling sounds broke the silence of these plains.
Suddenly, this youth turned his sights towards his surroundings, but after searching for a while, he frowned as he thought, 'So troublesome, father has only made my life more burdensome, how am I to watch over someone that's all over the place?'
After saying this, the youth shook his head and murmured, "They said that he was fighting here, but I have no idea of where he's gone, it looks like I'll just need to check at random. Tsk! All this hassle!"
After saying this, the youth then looked at the path Weizer's party had come from, leading into the Greater Plains. He shook his head and continued onward, soon after leaving this region, unaware his target had traveled elsewhere.

When Nero left the Lesser Plains, he had vanished into a semi-transparent wall that rippled like water; behind it was an image much like that of the endless forest of bamboo shoots that rose high into the air with no end.
A track of dirt trailed towards its farthest ends, as many of these shoots grew around its edges. Looking around, one would even notice that though it was the peak of noon, a slight mist still lingered about the area, carrying an uncanny atmosphere.
The cries of insects and other peculiar creatures sounded across the area, capable of filling anyone with a dark mood.
At this time, Nero, whose body seemed injured, limped as he walked through this area while drinking a potion. His steps taken on the track would make a rough sound echoed in this silent abandoned pathway.
While walking, Nero soon heard a few notifications sound as a text box appeared before his eyes.
Ding!
[You've entered the Quest Zone, proceed to the point of the previous incident, and slay the pests that lurk these paths!]
As Nero heard this, his eyes flashed when he finished gulping down his potion and tossing it to the side, causing it to crack apart as it hit the ground.

[You recovered 50 HP! Your health is now fully restored!]
"Perfect, I feel much better now," Nero said while gripped his fists, his injuries were now gone, and he was no longer limping as he walked.
Nero couldn't help but feel better at his current state, as when he recalled his previous hours of hellish training. He couldn't help but think it was a miracle he could even survive, he thought to himself, 'I don't want to go through that shit again!'
Following his thoughts, Adult Nero, who was listening, spoke out, "Oh, and if you didn't do so, how would you even come close to reaching your current stage? I'll have you know that right now, though you might be able to trounce those of the Inferior Grade, it will be an entirely different story against those of the Common Grade found in Normal Quests. Not to mention, your adversaries in this Novice Zone are each on the verge of being capable of battling those at the Greater Grade."
When Nero heard this, he woke from his senses and shook his head, not bothering to refute it. He called upon his stats, looking at his recent growth.

It's not like I don't know what I'm up against, it's easy for you to say that their strong, but you should know that I'm doing my best here, it's not easy to level up these skills. Look, even that Four Points Unity Steps is giving me a hard time, it was hard enough to get it into the 3rd stage, much less achieving mastery.'
Adult Nero replied, "What do you think? It is a High-Grade skill for a reason, the fact that you could even take it into Stage 3 should be an accomplishment itself. Hmph! You should stop wasting time by pondering useless things and focus on the path before you; it will only get more troublesome from here on out."
Nero sighed as he didn't bother to complain anymore, his eyes looked at the head of him at the misty pathway as he put more force into his steps as he spoke with determination, "Hmph! No matter what, I will grow even stronger."
Adult Nero smiled as he said nothing, but while they moved, his eyes were fixed around their surroundings. They soon faded into the mist traveling towards the depths of the Bamboo Grove, but as they vanished, so did a few silhouettes whose eyes gleamed in a cruel red light.

Well… We've finally come to the end of Spirit Immortal. 

Hehe, I bet you guys didn't see it coming right? The cover of the book was actually the ending scene of the entire story! Haha, I did well to keep it under wraps for the two years I've been writing this story! Finally, I get to share it all with you!

For those that had stuck with me for the near two years, I've been posting Spirit Immortal… It's been quite the hell of a ride. There were many days where I wanted to quit writing this story and there were many times where I just wanted to say: "Fuck it! Let me just leave everything and just tell you the outline of Spirit Immortal straight up!" However, because of you guys, I gritted my teeth and completed the story. 

So… Before I begin the FINAL Author's Thoughts of Spirit Immortal, I want to give a huge thank you for all who supported me. Especially my Patrons, who had actually invested money into Spirit Immortal even though you guys didn't have to. There are some of you who have invested hundreds of dollars to support this project of mine and I don't know how else I could repay you for your continued support... 

Honestly, I lack the words to describe my gratitude, so I can only say this…

Thank you all for being the rock in my life, guiding me to complete the story that I dreamed about so many years back…

Alright, enough of the emotional stuff! Let's get to the real meat of the Author's Thoughts. This will be my longest Author's Thoughts yet so if you lack the time, you really don't have to read it all. However, for those that had read Spirit Immortal all the way, I'm sure that you'll find it all very interesting.

Let me divide it into sections first, just to keep me on track. Firstly, I'll be discussing the overall story of Spirit Immortal. How I conceived it from a theory that I had, the inspirations I took and ultimately… The ending that I'm sure only a percentage of you saw coming.

Secondly, I'll be talking about the challenges I had writing Spirit Immortal. My journey from a teenager in university that had no clue about how to write, to the man that I am now. The challenges that a new author in the web novel genre will come to face and hopefully, it'll teach any of you aspiring authors to not repeat the same mistakes that I'd made.

Thirdly, I'll be writing about the things that I would have done differently (ie, the things that I would want to do in future when writing future stories). Also, the lessons learnt that I wish to impart on my future self, as well as any budding authors reading this. 

Finally… I'm going to talk about my future works and how I'll be approaching writing web novels in the future.

It's going to be a long ride since I'll be trying to condense two years worth of experience into one document, so please bear with me.

Story of Spirit Immortal
As many of you know, I am a fan of Wuxia/Xianxia novels. They have played an integral part of my teenage life, giving me content to binge through while I rode through my schooling years. By now, you should be familiar with how I got into Wuxia/Xianxia, so I'll skip the long introduction and get to the reason why I imagined Spirit Immortal as a Wuxia.

I had a different take about Immortality than the other novels.

It was really as simple as that. In traditional novels, like Coiling Dragon or Doulou Dalu, the ultimate goal for the protagonist was to become an Immortal. Some even have realms above the Immortal Realm and they continually become stronger until they reach Godhood. It's a tale that we've all read before. However, my thoughts about Immortality are a little different.

I don't believe that Eternal Life exists. Or at the very least, not in the way Wuxia/Xianxia novels portray it. Let me explain.

What does Immortal mean? A literal definition means, not mortal. So, before we get to that, let's define what mortal means first. A mortal is any living thing that exists in reality, doing their best to continue their ultimate goal… To live. See, it doesn't matter if you are a human or a dog, a tree or a pig. We're all living creatures fighting against our final destination… death. As much as we don't like to admit it, all living things will die one day. That's what makes them 'living' in the first place. We have immune systems to protect against viruses. Possess various traits that will help us survive in our reality. Legs to run, arms to hunt, mouths to eat, sexual organs to reproduce…

All of these attributes are what makes us mortal. Which means that the desires that come from these attributes are also mortal desires. We hunger to live. We lust to reproduce and further on our genetic lineage. We anger to pump ourselves into action to defend our survival. Every single emotion that humans feel are linked to one main thing… To live. Even trees, which are effectively mortal, respond to changes and adapt to live. 

So what happens when you turn Immortal? All of our survival instincts, all of our desires that make us mortal… It all goes away. 

We will no longer want to do anything because we've already lost our most primal need to survive. Hunger becomes redundant since you won't die. Sexual desires disappear since there's no need for you to reproduce anymore. Feelings of anger, sadness, anxiety, fear… All of them would be stripped bare of any mortal. 

Once we become 'Immortal' we cease being 'Mortal'. Sounds stupid to say out loud, but in most cultivation novels, the protagonist becomes Immortal but still acts as a Mortal. Desiring to grow stronger even though he/she has obtained eternal life. Lusting over new girls in the new realm. Feeling emotions that no Immortal should have… All of these got me wondering…

How could I make a story about an Immortal with this logic that I have?

And then it hit me… The journey.

I have to make a journey tale, one where the protagonist starts from nothing and obtains everything that he'd ever thought possible. And it's not like the journey was perfect. Shin lost people on the way. Learned lessons from a myriad of characters. Took on the journey of life to become the 'perfect hero' that was slated to become the next 'Immortal.' And at the end of it all… He'll realise that Immortality was just a lie made up by humans to feel better about his mortality. 

All humans live. All humans die. In the end, what really matters is the journey that we all take while we're living. It doesn't matter if you become a successful billionaire or a struggling pauper. It doesn't matter if you get to live your dreams or be a recluse that loves to watch shows all day. As long as you're satisfied with your life's journey. That's all that matters.

At least, that was what I was trying to convey in Spirit Immortal.

Remember when I said that I wanted to finish this story because I wanted all of you to see my ending? The ending that I created was to show what my thoughts were about mortality. The life of a mortal, the journey that said mortal would take and finally… The end that no one can escape from. Spirit Immortal isn't a story about Immortality like other Wuxias. It's a story about… Mortality.

I'll be the first to admit. I lost control over the story of Spirit Immortal halfway through writing it. The original storyboard was for Shin to have a single drive (Ariel's resurrection) to carry him all the way to the ending. The ending that would reveal that the Immortal Realm doesn't exist and they were all cogs in a wheel to power the World Spirit. However, as I wrote more settings, introduced more characters, the storyline became more convoluted.

I'm an author that doesn't like to keep things rigid. As I keep adding new things into the story, it would morph whatever narrative I'm trying to write. Kanari's introduction as the secondary love interest was the major turning point for Spirit Immortal as well. I'd initially thought of Kanari as a friend character that was ultimately there only to fuel Shin's growth and to eventually meet Ariel. However, as I'd thought about it… Would Shin really behave that way when a beauty and good-hearted person like Kanari was chasing him? Was love truly eternal and could Shin only be single-minded about one person till the very end.

Then there were more realistic scenarios that I could think of which broke Shin's motivations. Even if Yggdrasil was real and Shin resurrected Ariel, he would still be a mature adult while Ariel would be a fifteen-year-old girl. Was that really realistic for Shin to ignore Kanari, a beautiful woman who had been chasing him when he was a hormonal youth, for a future with an uncertain Ariel.

And finally, I wanted to put in the family aspect into Shin's cultivation life. Family was an important aspect of all human beings. It's what fuels our evolution as a race and what drives us to live yet another day. So, Shin has to have a family before he ascends. So that he could make the final decision that he made at the end…

To not return to Earth and warn people that Immortality was a choice that Shin had to make. The world needs to have this cycle. Cultivators trying to ascend to Immortality, only to become energy for the new generation to rise up. That completes the evolution cycle of the Spirit Immortal world and Shin can only understand that if he has children of his own.

I've hidden many clues throughout the early books about the true nature of the Immortal Realm as well. Remember in Book 1 when I said the Spirit Immortals "burst into energy?" Also, in Book 2, the Mushinkei, the Frie Clan's house in Chilyoja Waypoint, means "Godless" in Japanese. And who could forget the easiest clue that I gave you all? Dexsot Teinost? Literally you can rearrange the words to form "It does not exist." Yes, yes. Very similar to the Harry Potter one with Voldermolt, but still! None of you got it! I even made it clear that I like scrambling words around with the Frie and Awter Clan all the way back in Book 1! 

Challenges
The challenges of being a writer, particularly an online one, is a completely foreign concept to me when I first started writing. I began to write because of my love of it and I'd thought that it would be easy. There are literally thousands of stories online and they each had their own unique flair. Some of them were terrible, some of them were masterpieces. And well… I got inspired by both types.

The masterpieces made me fall in love with stories. The shit stories made me realise… Anyone could write. Particularly online when there were no gatekeepers like traditional books. So even someone like me, who has bad English and horrendous storytelling skills can actually write something to the masses. 

Thinking back, I really was young and naive.

The most challenging part of being a novelist isn't the lack of time, which believe me, I was always swamped. It wasn't even the social toll that it takes. I had to give up many social events or at least plan ahead many weeks because I stuck to this daily schedule of releasing a chapter a day. 

The most challenging part of being a novelist is… Writer fatigue. 

There were so many days that I just couldn't type a single word. I didn't know how to pen my story. I didn't know how to write my settings. I didn't want to write anything because of how burnt out I was… I lost all my love for Spirit Immortal after consistently writing about it for two years. I couldn't bring myself to the keyboard, distracting myself with youtube videos and other entertainment means.

I would miss the days where my fingers would dance on the keyboard. I remember there was once I wrote a thousand words in an hour, and ten thousand words in a day. However, at my lowest point of my writer's fatigue. I couldn't even write a thousand words a day. 

That's why as the story neared its end, the quality kept dropping. I couldn't bring myself to write two thousand words a day, which was the limit I placed on myself and could only come down to a thousand words. It was heart-wrenching, knowing that I was responsible for the dip in quality in Spirit Immortal, the story that all of you readers spent your valuable time to read. 

I could spin a thousand excuses. Not enough time to write. Meeting up with my friends. Real-life obligations. Real-life work comes first. However, all in all, the main reason why I couldn't write… It's because I was tired. I was falling out of love with Spirit Immortal, even though it was the story that I dreamt into reality. I wanted to keep writing, but the author inside of me didn't exist in the shape that he used to be in.

BUT! I'm glad I faced all of those challenges, particularly with my first long-form novel. I now know what challenges lie ahead of me and I know what I must do from now on. To not just grow as an author, but as a person as well. 

Lessons learnt
Major lesson learnt… Spend more time storyboarding, and less time writing. A chapter a day is all well and good, but if the quality is shit, why bother? So I decided from here on out. I will no longer be releasing daily chapters. Maybe I'll be releasing three or four chapters a week, or even less. I can't tell you for sure right now. This is to prevent burning out once again.

Writing is not equal to authoring. I'd thought that as long as I crafted a good story, I could be a good writer. However, I now know that I'm shit at writing. My English is bad, and my execution is subpar at best. So I will be learning more from other novels to hopefully bolster up my bad writing skills. I will keep evolving, or at least, that's my hope. I will come back a better writer that could flawlessly execute the marvellous stories that I crafted in my head.

The Future of Linodo
Easy. I'm not quitting just because I'd finished Spirit Immortal. I will be continuing my second story, "When the Lilyflower Blooms..." while writing my new standalone book which I had been putting off for the longest time. I won't be returning to Wuxia/Xianxia books because I realise I'm not cut out for this genre. I can't write the 1000-2000 chapters that the undying Chinese Authors can. I can only go for so long before I burn out. 

So Lilyflower will be my comeback in an alternate genre, magical reality. I plan to write Lilyflower for about 100-200 chapters, 300 max. I don't want to keep my story never-ending and open-ended. I just want to make sure that the journey is fun for all of you. 

I won't be writing a Spirit Immortal sequel or any short stories from here on out. If I want to move on, I have to close this chapter called 'Spirit Immortal' from my life. If you guys want, you can privately message me about the theories of Spirit Immortal and I'll be sure to discuss anything that you want. However, for the most part, my creativity will now be focused on Lilyflower and the other stories that I have conceived thus far.

So yeah… That's it for Spirit Immortal! I hope you've enjoyed these two years as much as I did. No matter what I say about this story, no matter how much time I've lost writing this and spending my heart's emotions on it… Spirit Immortal will always be a part of me. It would be a story that I would return to every once in a while to laugh at my young mind and enjoy thinking about forever after.

Over a million years ago, the first human contracted with the first Spirit. Ever since then, Spirit use has become commonplace. Humans used Spirits to carry items and start fires. Author's Thoughts

When I first started writing, I was unaware of the importance of collection. I just want to write my story so that people can read it. But, after posting it in this platform called Webnovels, you tend to learn about things that make you change your perspective.

When I got my first ten collections, I was very happy. I thought that this number will continue to rise as I write my story. Then my senior authors started talking about collection count and I found out that my collection/view count is way "toooooo looooooooow".

Mmm, thinking back, it was one of the most depressing days of my life as a new writer. I only got ten collections after writing so many chapters and I thought that, how can people not love my story? It's so awesome, so epic, so fabulous that they will be pestering me instead to release more chapters. 

Authors are like that. They think that their stories are the best. The most beautiful, the most exciting, the most engaging, the most…so on and so forth. Unfortunately, in the face of reality, all of "THESE" crumble.

That day, I stared at my collection and asked myself. Why did they add it? Is my story interesting enough? Did my drop-dead, gorgeous, sexy body passed through the walls of space and time, and forced them to reconsider to add my story to their libraries?

For them to survive my story that had been labeled as… a story that will make people want to stab their eyes for the horrible grammar, tenses and sentence structures, breaks my heart.

To this day, I still don't know the answer. But, I'd like to believe that these ten silent readers of mine are there because they genuinely loved my story. That was enough, that was more than enough for me.

Silent readers is a term used by some of the authors in Webnovels. They are the people who love to read stories, add them to their libraries, but don't give comments or leave reviews. They're just there. Silently reading, silently supporting their favorite authors with their presence. 

We appreciate these readers, but you know…we want you to talk to us too. We want you to say something. We want you, to make your presence known. 

Do we really have to say "Please notice me Senpai?".

My friend, sleepteddy, said a few words before about improving his grammar for the sake of his reader's mental health. Believe it or not, some of the authors worry about our reader's mental health as well (Sleepteddy and I are the perfect examples of responsible authors!)

My beloved readers, I'm not telling you this so that you will avoid removing stories in your libraries. No, that's not the reason why this chapter was written. I want you to know that every time you remove a story from your library, somewhere out there, a new author is facing a heartbreak (LMAO! Guilt-tripping eh?)

Joking aside, I do believe that a good story will always have fans waiting for the author to upload the next chapter everyday. If a story is interesting enough, then having a big collection count is just around the corner.

A gem will always shine once it is discovered, so it's just a matter of time, a bit of luck, and pray to the RNG GODS that your novel will be featured on the trending and daily updates list.

For new authors, their first 100 collection is a milestone. This gives them the assurance that there are people, somewhere out there, that are reading their story. The second milestone is 500 collections, then next 1,000, then 5,000, and finally 10,000.

The moment a story hit a collection count of 10,000, the authors can give themselves a pat on the shoulder because they had crossed a certain threshold. It means that a small minority of people deemed their story to be worth reading.

Of course, it doesn't stop there. There is a certain author in Webnovels that I know that have…millions in his collection.

Perhaps, someday, some of the authors in the discord chatroom will also reach that milestone. Until then, we just have to keep writing, keep improving, and keep making exciting stories that will make people "Want to ADD our stories in their libraries."

Mei Xing woke up with an aching body. To add to this hardship, she had a pounding headache since she did not dry her long ash brown hair before falling asleep last night. However, Mei Xing was used to waking up this way for the last 3 years. 

She threw two pills in her mouth to help with the pain and swallowed them before getting up to brush her teeth. She took a long shower and picked out an outfit to cover her bruises: High-waisted dark jeans and a maroon knitted sweater. She tucked the front of the sweater into her jeans as she walked toward her vanity.

Mei Xing had gotten a black eye, so she needed to apply makeup. She turned on some music as she covered the evidence of her father's abuse. The song "Hourglass of Memories" by G.E.M TANG began to play.

Mei Xing sighed. Just a little longer until she could escape this hellhole of a home. Since she was 17, there wasn't much she could do to escape her father. She couldn't just pick up and leave since she was still a minor. Mei Xing also couldn't call for help because no one would believe her. After all, her father was technically rich since he took all her mother's inheritance after she died, and no one would believe that the "pampered" daughter of a rich man would be abused. Huh, what idiots. Whatever, in 2 weeks, she would turn 18. Then she would be a legal adult, free from her father at last.

The thought of freedom put a small faint smile of Mei Xing's face. She finished applying her makeup and picked up her designer bag. Her father always made sure to provide her with such luxuries to keep up the illusion of a pampered daughter. 

She left her empty house and headed off to Star Academy where she attended high school. Her ultimate goal was to one day become a star in order to gain fame.  Once she had enough money and fame, she could get her payback.
