I will be inserting my own content as I believe there is so much that JK Rowling could have expanded on. Re-reading the books as an adult has given me a differrent perspective than when I first read the books.

Though the events that transpired a few minutes ago was intense and nerve-racking, the harmonious aura came back when they reached the bookstore.
Dandan carefully measured her boss' mood while they were walking towards the entrance and it seems that her boss has cooled down. She thanked all the gods and deities in this world that everything is back to normal again.
Once they were inside, Dandan excused herself so she can quickly pick the necessary items that the employees from the office wanted. She left her boss hanging around the fiction books section.
The bookstore was really crowded today so once Secretary Dandan has to queue, it'll take long before she could pay the office supplies she picked.
Xiulan's mood was serene again and everything that happened a while ago were swept away once she's inside the store. Bookstores are her happy place and it immediately alleviated her mood. She went to young adult fiction section to check the newest and trendiest books.
Since its young adult, it's full of romance and magic genre. The titles were all new to her and the stories seems promising.
Her attention was caught by the romance books with very vulgar covers in it. She liked the stories but the covers were quite distasteful for her. She thought that books these days are not so discreet in hiding what's inside. She remembered the books twenty years ago would have plain cover designs and people wouldn't actually know the book is erotic unless they read it. But now, these provocative book covers are exposed to children.
While she criticize each of the books' cover, she took her time reading each of the synopsis at the back as well. She seems to be so engross in reading them that she was not aware that some aunties inside the bookstore were gossiping about her.
"Is that Mrs. Xing? She's so tiny..."
"It's my first time seeing her in person. She's very pretty but she lacks height. Her dress is so pretty though!"
"The contrast of Hongqi's ex-girlfriends vs Mrs. Xing are too big! I'm pretty sure Hongqi has a tall, beautiful, model side chick."
"I am going to bet a slut could snatch Xing Hongqi from this woman. She's pretty but there are far more beautiful and sexier women."
"Look at her height, OMG!"
"Wow! Her waist is so small… but her height… err…"
"Hmph! She's not that pretty like what the people says!"
"Gong Yuming is prettier."
"Betting that they'll divorce this year. She's not that pretty like her husband's exes."
The constant degrading hush from the bystanders managed to catch Xiulan's attention. "Are they really gossiping about me, in front of me? I can't believe this. Are people really this boisterous in shaming someone?"
She had enough of this. When will people stop this kind of attacks on her? She can't just stand here and let them slander her like this. She could ignore this if it was a hearsay but they are slandering her in person. For some reason, the constant mention of her height irritated her so badly. Never ever criticized a woman's height in front of them.
Xiulan put down the book she was holding and coldly gazed at the gossiping women. She walked towards them with her high heels clacking so loudly. She stopped in front of them and savagely scolded them. "You women have a lot of free time to gossip about me. Instead of talking about my marriage and height, all of you should check on your husbands. A young, tall, beautiful girl might be with them right now."
The women gawked at her, they were all surprised by her words. They all thought she's meek and wouldn't even try to approach them. But here she is, standing in front of them with her thousand dollars dress, shoes and clear skin. They were embarrassed but they wanted to rebut to save face and bully her back but she's not finished in her scolding yet.
"And my short height doesn't undermine the continuous contributions I made for this country. What about you people? Is your gossiping helped the country's economy?"  Xiulan's perfectly plucked eyebrows were all way up. With her tiny height but amazing confidence, she intimidated these godforsaken gossipers.
The women were mummed and don't know how to answer back. They were just middle class people and a rich, upper class woman scolding them made them afraid to say something.
"I didn't know that Mrs. Xing has a lot of free time to scold people." A woman with very long fake eyelashes emerged. With her voice, she might be the person who mentioned Gong Yuming's name.
Xiulan lazily looked at this woman who appeared like a random mushroom, provoking her.  "Yes I have a lot of free time. What about it?" Xiulan rebutted and her eyebrows were still arched. It gave her a snobby and intimidating look.
The annoying woman scoffed. "Don't be cocky just because you are rich and married to Xing Hongqi. He can leave you anytime."
"Ad-hominem. Why is my husband being mentioned in this? So what if he leaves me? Am I not allowed to scold people who are slandering me? Hmm?" Xiulan was in the mood to scold people so she would continue this until Dandan is finished with her shopping. Hell, who cares about image now?
"People with class don't argue with people in public." The woman fought back.
"And who said that? Was it written in a manual on how to be classy?" Xiulan won't let this woman slide.
"You might be rich but your attitude stinks." The woman provoked. Her arguments were out of place.
"Judgmental. How come you say my attitude stinks when we've been only exchanging questions? I can't believe I am not allowed to scold people who slandered me." Xiulan bewilderingly asked. She doesn't get this woman's anger. She only scolded the gossipers but this woman is diverting the topic to something else.
"Just wait and your careful pure image will be trashed soon." The woman was about to leave since she doesn't know what to say anymore.
"I wouldn't mind that. Be careful on not losing your job too." Xiulan scoffed before she left the gossiping women and went to Dandan, who's busy in responding to the group chat with her co-employees regarding what to buy in the bookstore.
The woman halted her movements and nervously looked at Xiulan's retreating back. "She won't know my name and report it to my boss, right?"
"Dandan, aren't you finished yet?" Xiulan smiled at Dandan. Her face didn't display any irritation or negativity. It seems that she enjoyed the argument she had a while ago.
"Boss, I'll be next soon. You can wait in the car so you can relax." Dandan quickly answered. She was confused for a moment why the people surrounding them were looking at her boss quite differently.
"Okay." Xiulan agreed but before she leaves the place, she picked a book that has caught her eye a while ago and gave it to Dandan. "Add this to your cart. I want to read it tonight."
Xiulan left and went to rest inside the car.
Dandan confusedly took the book and stared at it. The title was "The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera" with a dog doodle on the book cover. Dandan thought it was a harmless novel but when she read the synopsis at the back, she can't help but question if her boss' marriage is currently on the rocks.

Man, I hoped I'd get at least a few reviews on the prologue. But whatever I guess. Here's another chapter!

Chapter 1

4 Years Old

About a year had passed since Ken had secretly given Naruto food at night. Since then, their bond had only gotten stronger. During the day, they acted like they didn't know each other at all, but at night they would be like real brothers. Ken would always come over to Naruto's room every night with food and toys to play. They'd play well into the night and sometimes even sleep together in Naruto's bed. Though Ken would always leave right before the sun rose so that the caretakers never got suspicious.

Now, because of Naruto, Ken had also become acquainted with the nice old man that always came over. They all called him "Hokage-sama" but Naruto and Ken always called him "Jiji". Ken could tell the old man was suspicious of Ken at first, but over time, both the kids had become like grandchildren to him.

With observation, Ken had also deduced that this was basically a military state. There were soldiers – or "Shinobi" as they called them – jumping from place to place all over the city. Apparently, there were also ranks here. From all the books that Ken read, he had really learned a lot.

Genin was the lowest. This position seemed to mostly be held by kids and preteens.

Chunin was next. The average age of the chunin seemed to be between 15 to 20.

Jounin was the highest. These people were strong. Most of the jounin seemed around 25 but of course, there were exceptions.

Then there was the ANBU. The elite. The "Spec Ops" of this world. These were the only ones who had a different uniform. Grey body armour and a mask that was supposed to represent an animal.

Ken had also read about three legendary shinobi called the Sannin. The book described each one as extremely powerful – a one-man army.

Then, above all, was the Hokage. Well actually, it was the Kage, but there were five superpowers in this world and so the Kage for Konohagakure was called the Hokage. Like that, there was the Kazekage for Sunagakure, Raikage for Kumogakure, Tsuchikage for Iwagakure, and Mizukage for Kirigakure.

The last and most important thing that Ken figured out was their own identity. He had gone through a lot of history books and had researched the Uzumaki clan. Good with seals, long lifespan, fucking massive reserves of chakra. Combine all that with the fact that he and Naruto were born on the same day that the village was attacked, AND some people seemed to whisper "demons" behind their backs easily gave him so many answers. Ken used to work for CSIS. He wasn't just fucking around. His observation skills were on par with the best of the Kage-level shinobi.

Ken and Naruto had something to do with the Nine-Tailed Fox that attacked. His conclusion: Most likely, it was sealed inside them. Of course, it took Ken a few weeks to get his get wrapped around the fundamentals of sealing, but eventually, he got it. Just a few days ago, he had in fact picked up a book about sealing. After all, if it was something related to his little brother, he'd learn it all.

That was what led to their current predicament.

"So, you're telling me that the head caretaker in the orphanage kicked you both out because she thought you were capable of handling yourselves?" asked the Hokage skeptically.

"That's what she said to us, but I think she just hates us both for some reason." Answered Ken frowning as he fidgeted from his place in front of the Hokage's desk.

"Yeah, Jiji! She's a mean lady! She also doesn't give me food sometimes and I have to sleep hungry," he answered with his eyes down, but quickly perked up, "but Ken-nii-san always sneaks some of the food for me and we eat it in my room at night!" He added with a bright smile.

"Oh… is that so, Naruto-kun? Is that true, Ken-kun?" the Hokage asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Hai, Jii-san. I usually steal some food from the cabinets and take it to Naruto's room at night."

"And why haven't I heard about this before?" the Hokage asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Ken-nii-san told me not to tell anyone," Naruto answered before Ken could speak up.

"Ken?"

"I didn't want you to worry yourself over us, Jiji. You already do so much for us, and by looking at all that paperwork, I can tell you barely have time to even relax. I just didn't want to add to your burden anymore." Ken replied apologetically.

The Hokage's features softened and a small smile surfaced. He got up from his seat and made his way to the blonde and the redhead. He kneeled down to their level and engulfed them both in his warm arms. They stayed like that for a few moments before the Hokage broke the hug.

"Ken, Naruto, I would never see you two as a burden. I see you both as my own grandchildren. If you have any problems at all, I would like that you always come to me first. Now promise me. If anything like this happens ever again, you'll come to me first." The Hokage got a stern look in his eyes.

Ken nodded, "Alright Jiji, we promise," Ken said, while beside him, Naruto nodded fervently.

"Good. Now let's solve this problem of ours," said the Hokage but was cut off by Ken.

"Um… actually Jiji, I have to talk to you about something."

"Sure, what is it?"

"Can we send Naruto out first, please?" Ken asked.

"Aww, Ken-nii-san! Why do I have to go out?" Naruto asked while pouting. Ken reached out and ruffled Naruto's hair as he simply smiled.

"I'll take you to Ichiraku's tonight if you do," Ken offered. It seemed to have worked as Naruto quickly let out an enthusiastic 'WHOO!' and jumped out of his chair towards the door.

"You better keep your promise Nii-san!" Naruto shouted as he exited the office. Hiruzen and Ken both chuckled at the little blonde's enthusiasm. The mood quickly got serious as the Hokage then turned towards the redhead.

"Now, what was so important that Naruto-kun couldn't listen in?" the Hokage asked curiously.

Ken sighed, "The other day, I saw one of the caretakers put some sort of white powder in Naruto's food." The Hokage immediately tensed up. "I saw that and switched my plate with his so that if anything happened, it'd happen to me, not him. Then, while eating – well I didn't really eat a single bite – but yeah, while 'eating' I 'accidentally' dropped my plate on the floor. Of course, I got scolded harshly, but that's not the point. What happened after was what caught my attention."

Hiruzen's emotions were fluctuating wildly. He had gone from angry to surprised to proud to worried and now he was again curious. "What happened?" he asked in an emotionless voice.

"That day we were eating lunch outdoors. So, when my food spilled on the ground, a stray cat ate a little bit of it and ran off. The next day… the cat was dead." And now again, the Hokage was absolutely livid. "That's not all, Jiji. I'd say, every single caretaker has attempted to take either Naruto's or my life at least once. If I wasn't there, he might just be dead by now." At that moment, the Hokage looked into Ken eyes and saw what no child should have in their eyes. Pain, suffering, neglect, and the simplest emotion of all: sadness. But it wasn't just sadness… it was a sadness that never stopped. Hiruzen had never felt more unfit to be called Hokage.

"Hyou, Tora." Hiruzen called out as two ANBU appeared out of nowhere. His voice took a steely edge. "Hyou, tell Ibiki to clear up his schedule. Tora, I want every single caretaker in that orphanage to be taken to him. Handle them with extreme prejudice."

"Hai, Hokage-sama!" they acknowledged in chorus as both shinobi flickered out of the office.

Hiruzen sighed and spoke once again, "Well, let's get you both back to there and we'll fix this up in no time."

Ken spoke up once again. "Four years ago, the Kyuubi attacked the village."

The seemingly random statement caught the Hokage off-guard as his eyes widened for a fraction of a second. It was so quick, Ken felt like he had just imagined it.

"The Yondaime Hokage, Minato Namikaze, killed it but in the process, he also lost his life."

"And how do you know about this, Ken-kun?"

"History books, Jiji. I've read so much since I first learned to read y'know. So, as I was saying, the Yondiame killed it. But in another book, it said that Bijuu are merely chakra constructs that can't be killed." The Hokage's eyes finally showed resignation. "In another book, it said they can also be sealed into people and be used as weapons… The Kyuubi is sealed inside Naruto, isn't it?"

The Hokage sighed once more. "Yes. Yes, it is. I truly am impressed that you figured it out."

"It's really not that impressive. We've taken baths together and I've seen that huge complicated seal on his stomach."

"Ken, I hope you understand that Naruto isn't a monster." Ken laughed at that, which prompted the Hokage to raise an eyebrow. "Did I say anything funny?"

"Jiji, Naruto is my brother and just another human being. Anyone who calls him a monster won't be found the next day." Ken finished with a genuine smile which sent shivers up and down the Hokage's body.

"Well, I'm glad you understand that. You are officially more mature than seventy percent of this village. But. This is an S-class secret. Which means,"

"That if I reveal it to anyone, I'll be killed. Yes, I know, Jiji. I read it in a book." He added at the end, seeing Hiruzen's confused face.

"Hmm. Okay well. Is that all?" Hiruzen asked. This had been a long day for him. Now he still had to find more staff for the orphanage. Goddammit.

"Jiji, no matter how many times you change the staff, I don't think that way they see us will change. I was hoping that Naruto and I could have our own apartment. It doesn't even have to be big. Just safe. Please?" Ken looked at him with pleading eyes.

The Hokage seemed to be weighing the pros and cons in his head. It would be harder for two kids alone, but it would also be much safer. And seeing how mature Ken was already. There'd be no problem at all. He could give them both a monthly allowance and assign an ANBU guard.

"Very well, Ken-kun. By the end of the week, I'll have an apartment ready for the two of you."

Ken smiled, "Thank you, Jiji."

A week had passed and, true to his word, the Hokage had arranged for a small apartment for Naruto and Ken to live in.

Currently, Ken was leading a blindfolded Naruto by the hand towards their new apartment. He hadn't told anyone about this. No one knew, other than Ken and the Hokage.

"Ne, Nii-san. Where are we going? We've been walking for soooo long!" Naruto whined.

"Just a bit more, Naruto. Trust me, you'll like it."

"If you say so…" Naruto accepted.

In a few minutes, both brothers were standing in front of a small apartment.

"Okay! We're here! Take off your blindfold!" Naruto did as he was told.

"Huh? Where are we, Nii-san?" Naruto asked inquisitively.

"Our new home."

"What?" Naruto went wide-eyed. N-No way… were his thoughts as his brain struggled to process the information.

"Yep! No more angry caretakers. No more bullies. No more dirty showers. No more skipping meals. Aaand, we get to play together anytime we want!" Ken said with a bright smile on his face.

Naruto's lower lip quivered as his eyes started to water. "N-Nii-san…" he said, trying to hold back the dam of tears.

"You know last week how we met up with Jiji, and I told you to go outside while I talked to him? Well, I told him all about how you were being treated there, and he agreed to give us our own place to live.

Naruto looked down and his hair hid his eyes. Ken couldn't see his eyes, but he could tell Naruto was crying. It was quite obvious with the tears rolling down his cheeks and dripping from his chin. His mouth wasn't a smile or a frown. It was hard to tell what he was thinking, so Ken, for a moment actually thought that Naruto wasn't happy.

"You… You don't like it?" Ken asked.

If Ken's training in his past life wasn't so intense, he'd totally have said that Naruto teleported, because that's exactly what it looked like when the blonde ball of sunshine launched himself towards his brother and wrapped his arms around him.

"Thank you! Thank you so much, Nii-san! I love you!" Naruto said hugging Ken tighter and tighter while sobbing into the crook of his neck.

For a moment Ken was taken aback by this sudden action but he quickly regained his composure and hugged Naruto back while rubbing his back. "Hehe," Ken chuckled. "Anything for my little brother."

The duo stayed like that for a while before finally breaking apart and moving into their new home. It was small but spacious, had one bedroom, one bathroom, one living room, and a kitchen. The bedroom consisted of two beds, two tables, and two chairs. The kitchen had a refrigerator, a gas stove, two sinks, and an island countertop. The living was pretty simple; one three-seater sofa, one loveseat, and a coffee table. It already had all their stuff moved in and anything else they might need.

The rest of their day was spent remodeling the new living space and going out to buy food for the two of them. Being the responsible one meant that Ken had to be the one to cook and clean. He'd make sure that Naruto focused on his training instead. There was no doubt in his mind that Naruto would become a shinobi. With the Kyuubi in him, he was meant to be a weapon from birth… but that didn't mean Ken would allow anyone to treat him as one. They have to step over his dead body before anyone got their filthy little hands on his little brother.

Hiruzen Sarutobi had a smile on his face as he watched from his crystal ball. He knew, both the Uzumakis would grow up to be the strongest in the world.

5 Years Old

A generic looking brown-haired, brown-eyed boy sighed as he walked away from the local grocery store with both hands full of bags. When he was an acceptable distance away, he finally dropped the henge to reveal a five-year-old boy with bright red hair and violet eyes.

Ken had learned the henge technique about ten months back when he finally realized that he was being charged almost three times the average price for any and all goods. It looked like the hate was spread throughout the village, and he could do nothing about it. When enough was enough, he ultimately went to the Hokage to complain and asked him to show Ken the henge that he had seen many shinobi use multiple times.

That was also when the Hokage learned that Ken has already accessed his chakra and had learned the henge in merely three tries. Konohagakure had gained one more prodigy.

After that, both boys used every night to learn something. Ken taught Naruto math (it seemed that no matter where math was the same), and how to use chakra. When he had time, Ken read as many books as possible to learn as much as possible about this world. In just a few months, Ken and Naruto had already finished two years worth of Academy curriculum.

Ken knew: if the villagers were this hostile towards them, there's no saying how hostile the shinobi would be. He expected them to be more understanding since obviously, they would know about seals and everything, but in the back of his mind, there was that little pessimistic voice saying, "better be safe than sorry". That's why he figured, while Naruto would be the bright optimist of the two – always looking for the bright side of things, he'd be the dark pessimist. How bad could it be? After all, being a pessimist meant that you're either always correct, or always pleasantly surprised. And it was also a good balance to have at home.

Home… that was another thing. Ken could now call this place home. There were posters all over the walls – mostly Naruto's. There was a cabinet full of instant ramen – also Naruto's. Blunted practice kunai and shuriken scattered all over the floor – also mostly Naruto's. Wait… now that he thought about it, what the hell was his? Oh… right… Bookshelves upon bookshelves of, well, books. Lots of them. All the way from geography, history, politics, cooking, different types of trades, to tactics, chakra theory, training manuals, to even some recreational books like adventure, romance, and… *ahem* adult romance (which was under his bed – yes, he was only five but he still had the mind of a… fuck… let's call it the mind of a young adult).

Finally, there was the Hokage. Naruto had made it his life goal to become the Hokage. Sarutobi-Jiji had been the loving family member they never had, but Ken just couldn't shake off the feeling that he knew something. Multiple times when Naruto and Ken had asked questions about their heritage, the Hokage had denied having any knowledge, but Ken had a good 60 years of experience dealing with terrorists, criminals, and other enemies of the state. He could read a person just from one look, and the Hokage's behaviour was basically screaming 'your parentage is very important, and I know all about it but I'm not going to tell you'. In the end, he just gave and thought, if Jiji feels that it's best we don't know about it, then who are we to argue?

And Ken and Naruto went on with their normal lives… well, as normal as possible for a jinchuuriki and a reincarnated soldier.

So? What do you guys think? I'll make Ken invent guns a bit later. The story will follow mostly canon but it will diverge from canon at some points and eventually it will become its own universe… Hopefully.

Early February, the temperature is still cold and the weather is a color Sheen would describe, pale blue. It's a color that makes you feel the coldness and the warmth that the sky will make you feel. 

Light clouds surround the vast sky which mixes with the sun's Ray's during sunset and sunrise. 

Sheen covers her eyes while looking up, covered in a fluffy cream-colored jacket, she is on her way to pass an initial plot for her new novel this coming December. 

Before her college graduation, she had two national awards for writers: Best Teen Novel Writer and Influencer of the Year, from a single book that she was writing during her college days. 

Her books are like new series shown on the television, it catches everyone's attention. 

It becomes a talk in the street and a trending hashtag, it is something that everyone knows. 

But not everyone knows the author's real name since she only publishes with her pen name: Sheen. Only her co-workers, family and friends know who she is, Sierra Haley Eureka Ellaine Neomi Verrez or Sheen. 

With her not-very-long-name, not only she chooses Sheen as her public identity, but it is also to keep her own world on her hands and her writing world to the outside. 

As she walks to her office, she stumbles upon a familiar face.


Someone she would not want to see but is dying to see. 

The irony and the contradiction, makes her heart beat thousands faster than normal, her face burns a higher degree, her whole body stuck at the last movement. 

The person who made her that way saw her pathetic state but for some reason, didn't react and made his way out of her sight, as if she was not there, as if there was nothing to give attention to.

 After some time, Sheen had collected herself and continued walking, but her mind got stuck to the pair of eyes she saw and missed so badly which made her forget where her office is and found herself in front of the mirror while tears are flowing from her eyes. "I still..." was the only words that she uttered, incomplete yet full of the feeling she keeps. 

Pain, love, and longing. 

She wiped her tears with some tissue she has and retouched her makeup to hide the redness around her eyes. She then went to her office.

"Sheen, a lady whose heart was broken by a man who she loved the most, is a famous national author. The books she writes are about romance yet she never really did experience romance itself. We made a call with the author of Leaving on a public plane to answer some questions." 

The television echoed around the office when she arrived, the interview she had yesterday is now on air. 

Since she is an unknown writer, they have decided to just have a call interview instead of going to the show. 

She silently seats down as her co-workers watch the show. 

"So, how come you have never been in a romance? You told us in your last interview that you have been in love before yet here you are, an untouched romance novelist."

She remembered how that question made her feel yesterday, it questioned her view of herself about her relationship with her first love. 

Many didn't understand what she said in her last interview. "Let me clarify that, yes, I fell in love. But I was the only one in love. 

You see, romance is something that is created from two individuals who shares and feels the same. 

You can't have a romantic relationship with someone who doesn't feel what you feel." As the words penetrate her ears, she smiled. 

Those were something that she would write in her novels. The pain of unrequited love from a romance writer.

Sheen, a famous book author of romance and a victim of unrequited love, finds herself in need of true romance for a new novel. She stumbles upon young men while thirsty to create the novel she needs to write, she jumps from one romance to another to create the perfect romantic book she can ever write.

She received her first paycheck from Ardor and knew exactly where she wanted to spend it. Nathan took her to the bookstore where she met Kelsey for the first time. She took a cart, knowing she will be buying more than a few books.

She went straight to the Fiction shelves. She studied the covers, picked out the most interesting titles, read the synopsis and followed her gut instinct whether to put it in the cart or put it back on the shelves. She could do that for hours, while Nathan was in the Business section because that's what he was reading lately.

She saw him reading by the store window. The sunlight penetrated the glass and made his skin looked golden. He was looking down on his book, he pouted his lips. The world around him seemed to disappear, he wasn't aware of her watching him. He was like her when he reads, she thought. She could spend hours in that store, and he wouldn't be bothered waiting for her.

She turned to the Literature aisle, looked at the top shelves where all the dead poets lined up. She already owned most of the books. She tried to reach her favorite one but it was too high. A longer arm aimed for it from behind her, a scent of Nathan's cologne followed it.

"I've never read this one before," he said standing really close to her.

"That's my favorite, I left it at home ... I'm thinking to buy another one, just in case."

He laughed, "Just in case of what? But that's a good strategy though, always have a backup ... I want to read this ... I guess I've found the culprit, this was exactly where I met Kelsey the first time, she was buying books for you, wasn't she?" he looked straight into her eyes.

She shrugged with a smile, "Guilty."

"So ... if you had come with her that summer, I would've bumped into you instead of her?" he wondered.

She pursed her lips, "That's highly likely, this is a great store ... but then you wouldn't be dating the hottest girl in Gastonburry."

He looked down, lost his smile, and let out a long exhale. "Right."

"I think I'm done here," she said.

He looked at her half full cart, "Wow, that looks awesome, are you going to read them all in one night?"

She laughed, there were close to 20 books in her cart, "That's for the whole month or maybe more 'cause I need to do my report."

He grabbed the cart and took the poetry book that was going to be his new favorite, "This will be my bonus for you, let's check-out."

"What? I can't let you pay for that ... that's a lot of books," she refused.

"You deserve a bonus for all the work you put in, anyways, these books are going on my shelves, you won't be taking them back to Gastonburry, would you?" He had a point.

"I guess not."

"Great, so that's settled ... we'll have a reading fest tonight, I'll fix a nice dinner, we'll get some wine, we'll read, and then music, and then desert ... and then we can talk about it 'til sunrise ... you know, a stay at home nerdy weekend," he sounded excited.

She laughed, it sounded like a dream. It was something she would enjoy by herself, and now there's someone that enjoys it as much as she does. She remembered him saying, 'There's nothing sexier than a girl who reads.' Dido.

Home made gourmet looked so easy in Nathan's hands. She sat by the kitchen island, reading one of their new books while cooked. "Wow, I'm liking this one, it's gonna be hard to put down," a wide smile spread across her face. She was four chapters in, the story was already clutching her.

"Oh I know the kind ... I wanna read that one too, no spoilers please," he was seasoning his food, flipping his tools like a pro.

Her face was covered by the book, eyes glued to the pages. Once in awhile she made humming sounds, a chuckle or an exasperating sigh. He smiled amused, splashed some white wine to the fish, then poured some for himself and some for Julie. "It's that good, huh?" he offered a toast. She quickly finished the last line, clinked her glass with Nathan's, then marked the book and closed it.

"It's really good," she gulped her wine.

Their eyes met. He wanted to tell her how much he loves looking at her getting lost in a story, but his face said it all.

"If you like suspense thrillers ..." she tapped on the book, "This is the best I've read in years ... but I have to finish it to conclude the entirety of it, and then I'll tell you all about it."

He laughed, "I'm gonna read that right after you finish, do not attempt to spoil that for me ... I'm gonna read some romance after this, you know, to infuse a little romantic spirit into the tragic stricken love life of mine."

"Oh, come on, long distance relationships are not tragic, although, it is kind of sad to spend Friday night with a book nerd at home," she giggled.

"Trust me, it's tragic, and this is not even close to sad ... I actually prefer this than a noisy night life, and it's better with company."

They clinked glasses to that.

They started eating while discussing about books they've read, their favorite authors, movie adaptations, and everything else other than their tragic love life. After dinner, they sat in the living room area with their book of choice, and spend comfortable silence together. Commenting on what they were reading once in awhile, and went back to it right after.

He really did read a romance novel. He read only selected few, he said. But nonetheless, he was reading it. Julie never came across a guy who reads as much as she does, a romance novel especially.

Two hours into their reading session, his phone rang.

"Hey," he picked up.

She could tell from his tone, it was Kelsey.

"What?" he sounded surprised. He stood up from his reading position, and walked to the front door.

"Surprise!!" Kelsey's voice can be heard from the living room.

"Oh my God! Hi!" Nathan replied.

The silence that followed can only be assumed that they were kissing. She would've jumped to welcome her but she didn't want to interrupt their kiss.

When she finally stormed into the living room, they hugged and screamed. "I miss you so much! I thought I'd crash into your island weekend here and get a taste of that New Year's party I missed," Kelsey said with twinkles in her eyes. She looked around and saw all the books and wine bottles, "Wow ... you two are really going all the way tonight, aren't you?" she laughed.

Julie glanced at Nathan who was standing idle by the dining table, unsure of what he needed to do.

"You want some wine, Kells?"

"Oh, yeah, I could use a pre-drink, come on let's get dressed and go to that rock n' roll bar you told me about," she took the glass from Nathan's hand.

"Now?" he asked.

"Sure ... why not? I did came all this way for the weekend, Gastonburry was a bit dull ... so I thought I pay a visit to my hot boyfriend and let him take me out on an island night life," she came over to Nathan and kissed him.

"Yeah ... I think you should catch up and check out The Rockabillies ... or other bars you might like, I'm just gonna stay home and read tonight," Julie said. Nathan gave her a sharp disagreeing look.

"Yeah, babe, let's get out and have some fun, a little dancing, some island cocktails, and then we come back and catch up some more," she bit her lower lip and ran her hand under his shirt. She caught his lips and engulfed them in her kiss, Julie looked away.

"Julie, you sure you don't want to come?" he tried.

"No, you guys go ahead and have fun ... I'm just gonna finish this one and drink all your wine," she lifted her book with a grin.

"Oh don't mind her, she won't put down her book even if it's the end of the world," Kelsey pressed herself against Nathan, he couldn't possibly say 'no' to her after she took an eight hour flight just to spend the weekend with him.

"Okay ... let me change first," he took her hands out of his shirt and went to his room.

"Did Preston told you I was coming?" Kelsey threw herself by her side.

"No, I was as surprised as Nathan was."

"Good, I told him not to tell you, he said if he called you he would definitely slip up, so he wants you to call him after I get here."

"He's not out clubbing on a Friday night?"

"Nope, he's waiting for your call ... he's been brooding lately, its annoying, he's not much fun without you."

Nathan came out of his room in a long sleeve shirt pulled to the elbow. He wore his favorite washed out jeans and smelled like a Friday night. His eyes fell to Julie's, hoping she would change her mind or begged him not to go.

"Great! Let's go!" Kelsey jumped to her feet.

11 PM Friday night was her best time. Nathan looked down, there was no chance he was getting out of this one.

"Have fun guys! I won't wait up!" Julie waived at them.

"Thanks babe, we'll catch up tomorrow, 'kay?" Kelsey kissed her cheek.

Nathan didn't even say his goodbye, just a simple waive and a disappointed look on his face.

"Don't forget to call Preston," Kelsey added as she slipped her arm around Nathan's.

Julie caught a look from Nathan's eyes. "I won't," she said.

They stepped out and Nathan slammed the door just a little too hard.

Shen Minghu was just about to reply when Liu Jianyu said coldly, "A kid like you should not meddle with adult problem."
Liu Lan pouted her lips as she looked at Liu Jianyu with indignation. She was a grown up woman who had lived for countless reincarnation okay? As much as she wanted to state this fact, she could only kept silence because the fact was, she was trapped in 16 years old Liu Lan body.
Liu Lan went into coma when she was just 13 years old and three years had passed which meant that she was already 16 this years. Her brothers, Liu Jianjun was in his late twenty, he would turn 29 years in May while Liu Jianyu was 25 years old. Agewise, Liu Lan was still a teenage so what Liu Jianyu said was rather reasonable. Liu Lan shot her brother a menacing glare as she said mockingly, "relationship problem? Why I have never realized this tsundere brother of mine is so sensitive." She turned to look at Liu Jianjun with expectation.
Liu Jianjun saw his youngest sister looking at him with her bright eyes. This expression of his younger sister was his achiless heel. So, he could only blurt out. "It's your second brother girlfriend. She probably did something that let him down." Liu Jianyu, although was a tsundere was like an open book that can be read easily. So, it was no wonder that Liu Jianjun could see through the crux in a glance.
"Let him down? Like she cheated on him?" Liu Lan tilted her head, wondering what 'let him down' might refer to. As a woman with love experience with previous lives, One of the things that she could come up with when she heard Liu Jianjun answer was what she said just now.
Liu Jianyu flabbergasted, "How…how do you know?"
Everyone's eyes widened after they heard Liu Jianyu words. Shen Mingzhu, Liu Deming and Liu Jianjun thought Liu Jianyu fight with his girlfriend because of a mere problem like different opinion about what they should eat and etc. But they have never thought the problem would be this severe.
Liu Lan was speechless. She just blurted it out as it was the very first thing came up in her mind but she never expected that it would be true. "She really cheats on you?"
Liu Jianyu flushed red. The tips of his ears were red due to the embarrassment. Since everyone had known, he could only tell them truthfully. 
He had been dating his girlfriend since he was a freshman in the college. So, he had been together with her for over six years. During their dating, they tend to argue about almost everything to the point everyone, except Liu Lan knew about it once Liu jianyu went home. Well, after the fight, he would always wear a forlorn, complicated expression on his face. As the time went by, Shen Mingzhu, Liu Deming and Liu jainjun would already knew what problem that bothered Liu Jianyu once they saw him with this expression. So, when they saw Liu Jianyu with this expression on his face, they knew what had happened. It was just they didn't know that he was being cheated on.
This morning, Liu Jianyu got some photos from an unknown number. In that photo, he saw his girlfriend with a man in different place. At first, he thought the man in the photo was her colleague until hbe saw the last photo where he could clearly see his girlfriend was doing an 'exercise' in a car with the same men in other photos. 
Because of that he was feeling troubled. He wanted to break up but he couldn't gather his courage. It was a lie if he said that he was okay that she had cheated on him. She was his girlfriend for years. He had deep affection on after years being nurtured. Because of that he was trapped in dilemma.
Liu Lan rolled her eyes after she heard the story. As a veteran who experienced the same thing, she advised him. "What's there to think about? You only need to break up with her. That's it." Her break up was rather too terrible compared to Liu jianyu. She had died many times to save him but he cheated on him. it was completely different with Liu Jianyu who didn't exert as much effort as her, so that she can casually give him the advice.
Liu Jainyu frowned, "Break up? But…" before he could finish his sentence, Liu Lan voice rang. "But you love her so much that you couldn't bear to break her up? Second brother come on! You are a grown up man! Whether you will forgive her or not it is not my problem but what I'm going to speak is what I have in mind. If you forgive her after she cheated on you, would she use the chance you gave her? It's okay if she realize her mistake but if she take your forgiveness for granted? There was even a possibility when you'll be cheated on for the second or third. Rather than indulging yourself in your wishful thinking, it is better to break yourself free from those strains. A bitter reality is much better than sweet illusion."
Liu Jianyu stunned. What his sister said was right. He nodded in agreement. " I'll think about for a while. Thank you little sister." He had never expected that his sister could reason very well. What she said just now had cleared the doubt in his mind. Not only him, Shen Mingzu, Liu Deming and Liu Jianjun were completely astonished after they heard her words. Not even once they had thought the little princess in front of them would be well versed in the romance matters. Liu Deming coughed awkwardly. He asked Liu lan. "Little Lan'er…"
Liu Lan shifted her gaze from Liu Jianyu to her father. She asked, "Why father?"
"Have you ever had boyfriend?" Liu Deming question represented what everyone had in their mind. How can Liu Lan became so good in romance when she had never experience it, unless she ever had a boyfriend.
Liu Lan was speechless. She pondered for a moment before she said, "Nope father. Why?"
Li Deming replied, "Ugh…there's nothing."
Liu Lan looked at everyone. She knew what they were thinking so, she explained with tone of matter-of-factly. "I've read many books and watched dramas about romance. What I've said just now was what I've learned." It would be strange if she said she had ever had boyfriend to her family. First, the one who had a boyfriend was her in the previous life and second, Liu Lan had never had boyfriend to begin with so she could only come up with that plausible reason.
Everyone felt relief. They almost simultaneously said, "That's good." They worried for nothing. It was just Liu Lan was too young to have a boyfriend. She needed to get older first before she could experience the romance.

She reincarnated five times, all was done because she wanted to save her boyfriend.
She was killed in different yet equally gruesome death but his betrayal pierced her heart, making her reincarnated for the sixth time.
