“Hana Son, wake up. We’re late for the photoshoot at BOYs.”a deep voice was heard, as if I am listening to a voice actor delivering his lines. 

Damn, if this is a dream then I don’t want to wake up and listen to this lovely voice that I hear. 

“If you won’t wake up then I have no choice but to kick you out of the bed.”there it is again, come on! Feed me with your enchanting voice that captured my maiden heart. 

Then suddenly I felt a pressure behind my back as if someone kicked me and I fell down from my bed with my face facing the floor. 

“Dreams are sweet but when waking up, it brings you back to reality. Thanks a lot Mister Nice Voice!”I complained as I sat up. 

I groaned as I rubbed my forehead and I opened my eyes to see a man standing beside my bed. 

I slapped my forehead and said, “Damn did I bought a standee when I was drunk last night at the party?”

His dark eyes turned even colder than before, “I’ll count from one to three or else I’ll drag you to the bathroom.”

“I bought a talking robot instead?! Boss will kill me if I have bought something expensive again!”I panicked while messing with my hair. 

Dokyum will rip my body into pieces and bury me everywhere in my grandfather’s villa. 

He suddenly kneeled down and closer to me until his breath hit my face. He went closer to my face to the point his check brushed against mine and whispered against my ear, “Or do you want to be washed by me?”

All of my blood rushed to my face. Hey Dear Author! Can you tell me what’s going on right now?!

Blour? Mag glanced at the information displayed by the omniscient door, and a hint of surprise appeared on his face.
"Is that Uncle Blour's voice?" Anna sat up with an elated look on her face.
Mag smiled and nodded as he said, "That's right, Blour's back. Why don't we go downstairs to greet them?"
"Yes!" Anna carefully emerged from under the blanket, and then tucked it around Amy before quickly putting on her little slippers and following Mag downstairs.
Mag switched on the light in the restaurant before quickly opening the doors.
Sally and Blour stood outside with the latter in female attire, and both of them were looking quite disheveled. Behind them stood close to 100 elves with their clothes in tatters. The autumn nights were quite cold, so many of the children among them were shivering.
Most of these elves were women and children, and they all appeared to be quite exhausted yet slightly fearful as they looked at Mag.
However, they then caught sight of the warm light in the restaurant, as well as the beautiful decor within the building, and their eyes lit up in unison. 
Mag couldn't help but falter slightly upon seeing this. For a split second, he had thought that he was looking at a group of refugees. In his heart, elves were all graceful beings that valued their cleanliness very highly; how had they been reduced to such a pitiful state?
Anna emerged from behind Mag, and she looked at the cross-dressing Blour with a hesitant expression as she asked, "U-Uncle Blour?"
"Anna… I… You see…" Blour leaned down and rubbed his hands together in a rather awkward manner as he looked back at Anna. He didn't think that his cross-dressing fetish was anything to be ashamed of, but he was still rather concerned that Anna would renounce him because of it, so he was scrambling for a way to explain himself.
Much to his surprise, Anna charged over and jumped into his arms before winding her little arms tightly around his neck.
Blour's mouth gaped open slightly as he stiffened on the spot, and only after a while did he slowly wrap his arms around Anna as a vibrant smile appeared on his face.
"I was afraid that you'd left just like Grandpa. I don't want you to go," Anna sobbed.
"I'm not going anywhere, so don't you worry." Blour patted Anna's back in a comforting manner.
After hugging Blour for a while, Anna let go and wiped away her tears before turning and throwing her arms around Sally.
"Don't cry, Anna." Sally wiped away the tears in Anna's eyes, and stroked her hair as a smile also appeared on her face.
"I'm glad you're back." Mag appraised the two of them with a smile, then turned to the elves behind them, and said, "From the looks of it, you've done something quite praiseworthy as well."
Blour looked into Mag's eyes with a beseeching expression, and said, "Boss Mag, I have a request; can you please cook a meal for all of my brethren here? They haven't eaten for two whole days, and they've walked all the way here. I'll pay for all of their meals."
Sally was also looking at Mag with an expectant look in her eyes. She opened her mouth to say something, but swallowed her words in the end.
Mamy Restaurant was a high-end restaurant. It was always kept pristine and tidy, yet these elves had been locked up in underground cellars for a long time, so they were all quite dirty and, quite frankly, rather smelly. They had been concerned that they'd encounter other mercenary squads that would hunt them down in the past two days, so they had been traveling without rest, thereby affording them no time to wash. As such, it would be very understandable if Mag were to turn down this request.
Anna looked at all of these elves, and tears began to well up in her eyes again. She didn't know any of them, but she had already guessed that they had to have been captured by those abhorrent demons, while Blour and Sally were the ones who had saved them.
Looking at them evoked within her memories of her grandfather. Only then did she understand why her grandfather refused to allow her to be captured even at the expense of his life, and she turned around to look at Mag with tears swimming in her eyes.
Mag looked at the elven children with a sympathetic expression on his face. He couldn't see any noticeable wounds on their bodies, but the inferiority and fear in their eyes tugged directly at his heartstrings. What kind of torture had these children endured to become like this? Those demons really did deserve to die!
"Come in, I'll cook for all of you." Mag stepped aside with a gentle smile on his face, leaving the entrance open to everyone.
Blour extended a deep bow toward Mag as he said in a solemn voice, "Thank you."
"Thank you, Boss." Sally also nodded as she expressed her gratitude.
"Uncle Mag is the best!" Anna looked up at Mag. Tears swirled in her eyes, but she forced them back in the end.
The elves entered the restaurant; due to limited number of seats, many of the elves could only stand. Some of the children managed to share a chair in twos, while others carefully sat on the ground.
The pleasant warmth in the restaurant made the elves a lot more relaxed, and they began to inspect their surroundings with curiosity in their eyes. The beautiful decor, the warm chandeliers, the intricate wall art… Everything was so surreal in their eyes after that nightmarish ordeal.
Even though they were feeling slightly more relaxed, the elves were still extremely subdued and self-conscious. Even the elves who were sitting the ground were kneeling as they did so, not wanting to dirty the floor with their shoes or take up any extra space.
Mag went upstairs before quickly returning. He looked at Sally with a smile, and said, "Go and take a bath, Aisha. I've prepared a set of clothes for you in the bathroom."
Sally wanted to refuse as she shook her head. "I'm fine—" 
However, Mag cut her off as he continued, "With so many customers, I need your help. In your current state, I can't allow you to serve food in the restaurant."
Sally looked at her bloodstained clothes and nodded before quickly heading upstairs.
"Boss Mag, do you need a hand from me?" Blour asked.
Mag shook his head with a smile as he replied, "You can take a seat. I'd never ask for help from one of my customers."
"Is Big Sister Aisha back?" Babla had heard what was going on downstairs, and she looked at all of the elves in the restaurant with a surprised look on her face.
"That's right." Mag nodded as he turned to Babla with a smile, and said, "I'll be requiring your help as well."
Soon, one cup of water after another flew out of the kitchen before landing in front of the elves with unerring accuracy. The water in the cups didn't even ripple in the slightest in the process, and all of the elves could only look on with astonishment and admiration in their eyes.
After taking a bath, Sally came downstairs in a floral qipao, and her dazzling beauty stunned all of the elves present even further.
Inside the kitchen, all of the stoves had been switched on, and Mag was cooking multiple dishes like a master chef. In what seemed like the blink of an eye, several portions of Yangzhou fried rice were ready; the rate at which Mag was cooking was simply phenomenal.
"These dishes are ready to be served," Mag said as he cleaned his pot, while Babla stared at the 20 portions of Yangzhou fried rice on the counter with her mouth gaping in shock.
That was so fast! It took Babla a while to collect herself before she returned to her senses, and she pointed a finger at the portions of Yangzhou fried rice, sending them flying out of the kitchen toward the elves waiting outside.


In Chaos City on the Norland Continent, there is a strange restaurant.

Here, elves and dwarves share tables. Beastmen are prohibited from making a din, and giant dragons can only seat around the tiny square in front of the restaurant. Even demons have to bring their own stools…

But it is such a strange restaurant that has long lines outside every day.

Elves are stuffing kebabs, paying no mind to their manners; giant dragons are sitting around a hot pot, strainers in their hands; demons are eating nice-looking dango…

"There's no other place on this continent where you can find food like that! The boss here is a genius!" a customer provides such a review. Then, he gives a furtive look at the door. "Also, don't you think of kidnapping the boss away or dine-and-dashing, or you will suffer a tragic death."

"Eat, pay, or you will be beaten to death." says a cute little girl in her childish voice as she trots forward. A five-meter tall dragon shivers when it meets her eyes.

Gordon Zhou had just walked toward the elevator to leave for the day when he heard Charlotte happily chatting with people. He stopped out of her sight and listened. He soon realized she was on a voice call with family. He could hear the worry in her voice as she talked about her mother's health. 
  He swallowed hard. He felt uncomfortable in his heart when he thought of the burden Charlotte and her family carried. His logic told him nearly all of his employees could tell similar stories of misfortune but he'd never felt like this before—the urge to do something. To fix the problem. He knew with his vast fortune that he had the power to ease their suffering, but how could he do it without offending Charlotte and her family? 
  Just then Charlotte came around the corner to the elevators. Their eyes met. She looked surprised. 
  "Mr. Zhou, good evening." She said gently. She seemed tired. 
  "Miss Xia." He nodded in his same reserved voice. 
  They both took the same elevator. There was an awkward silence until Gordon spoke up, "I can loan you the money if you need it." 
  "Ah, you heard my conversation." She guessed. 
  "Right." He affirmed. 
  "Mr. Zhou, the amount my mother needs for treatment is more than I can repay you in a timely manner. I'm afraid that as a businessman, you know loaning to someone like me is a risk." Charlotte explained. 
  "How about this? I need someone to attend business events and such. I can pay you $10,000 each time you attend with me." Gordon offered. 
  "Absolutely not. I am not a paid escort. It goes against my bottom line. If you want me to go out with you for some reason, I will be honored and happily go. But I won't accept money for it." Charlotte explained. 
  He considered her words. She might just be the first woman he'd met that wasn't after his money. He found his respect for her growing. And she said she'd happily be willing to go out with him. Did that mean...
  "I know! I could cook for you in exchange for helping my mother. But not at $10,000 a meal!" Charlotte interrupted his thoughts. He was startled. 
  "You cook?" He asked. 
  "Of course. My dad died when I was young and before my mom got sick she worked to provide my sister and I. I had to learn to cook so I could take care of me and my sister while mom was at work." Charlotte explained. 
  Gordon was surprised. As a child until the present his meals had always been prepared by a gourmet chef employed by his family. He couldn't imagine the struggles she'd faced. 
  "I'm sorry." He said quietly. 
  "No need. I may not be able to run in high heels but I've been cooking for over half my life. I don't mean to brag, but it's one thing I do well." She said with quiet confidence. 
  "Then please allow me to take you home so I can sample your cooking. Unless, you have a car here already?" Gordon asked. 
  "No, I don't have a car." Charlotte said. 
  The elevator stopped on the ground floor and she followed him outside where his driver waited for him in a Rolls Royce. Charlotte's eyes widened. She'd never ridden in such a luxury car. Gordon waited for her to enter and then followed her in. 
  He noticed the look of utter shock and surprise on his driver's face. To his credit, the driver remained silent and followed Charlotte's directions. Soon they arrived at her apartment. 
  He followed her out of the elevator and to her door. Suddenly she paused. 
  "Mr. Zhou, my home is humble. I just realized I'm not really qualified to receive you."
  He looked at her worried little face and said, "I don't look down on you. There's no need for concern."
  She nodded and unlocked the door. He followed her inside and took in his surroundings. It was small but well kept and clean. Bright colors splashed happily around the room in her decor. 
  To his right was a small kitchen area full of brightly colored dish towels and shelves of colorful dishes and glassware. Ahead was a living area. A simple but modern grey couch covered in brightly colored pillows faced a simple wooden table and in the wall a TV was mounted. 
  The walls were covered in reprints of famous works of abstract art, their happy colors catching his eyes. Straight ahead and past the living room was a balcony with a small stone table and two bright yellow bean bags. To his right, past the kitchen was a door. 
  "Make yourself at home. I'm going to change out of my work clothes before I start dinner." Charlotte said as she kicked her high heels off and hung her purse by the front door. She slipped on a pair of house slippers. 
  She headed toward the closed door while Gordon also put on a pair of slippers. He walked around the small apartment taking in the paintings on the wall. He noticed a multi-colored rug taking up most of the floor space in the living area. 
  Just then Charlotte reappeared in a pair of black leggings and a baggy tee-shirt. Her hair was tied up in a messy bun. His lips twitched into a smile without realizing it. She looked like a little girl playing dress up with her mother's clothes. 
  "I don't believe it!" She exclaimed, looking at him. 
  "What is it?" Gordon asked in confusion. 
  "You really can smile! You should do that more often!" She had teased him but praised him in the end. 
  Gordon turned his head quickly in embarrassment but Charlotte ignored it. As she tied an oversized apron around her waist he asked, "May I use the washroom?" 
  "It's through the bedroom." She absentmindedly answered as she began pulling ingredients out. 
  "Hey, what do you want to eat?" She called out as he wasn't about to pass into the bedroom. He paused. In truth he was picky about his food but he wasn't certain what she had on hand and didn't want to offend her. 
  "I'm sure anything will be fine." He said as he went in the bedroom and hurried into the washroom. Brightly colored rugs and towels added color to the tiny bathroom. He had closets bigger than this space, but he admired her ability to make the small room welcoming. 
  After he finished washing his hands he stepped back into the bedroom again and was finally able to see this room clearly. Bright red curtains graced the window and the bed was covered in a bedspread with bright red poppies splashed across it. He noticed a few picture frames on her dresser and he stepped closer to look. 
  A handsome couple and two young girls happily smiled back at him. This had to be her family before she lost her father. A more recent photo showed a gently smiling elder woman. Charlotte and a young girl who looked similar in appearance hugged the woman and smiled. 
  He glanced at the cloakroom filled with bright colored clothes. 
  Gordon turned back to go into the kitchen when he noticed the paintings on the wall. These were not framed reprints like those in the living area. These were canvases and they were happy scenes of nature. Bright orange sunsets, and lovely pink cherry blossoms, and deep blue-green oceans. 
  "Who is the artist of these paintings?" Gordon called out. 
  Charlotte appeared at the door wiping her hands on a towel. 
  "I did those in college. I minored in art." She explained. 
  "You painted these?" He asked in surprise as he stepped closer to the sunset painting. 
  "Yes." She affirmed. 
  "Would you paint one for my office?" He asked suddenly.

Chapter 5: You are at once the quiet and the confusion of my heart

              I had never felt so many emotions over a woman than I've felt with Sophia. And I haven't even been with her for a whole day. The thing that bothers me most is when I see how men fall all over her. Seeing the store clerk and the men in line fawn over her was irritating. But when the gunmen focused on her, I hit the roof. Who knows what the men would have done to her if I hadn't taken them down. Then I see detective Colin Vane comforting her, and my stomach turns. It's just too much. Men are like moths to Sophia's flame. And as someone who is fighting his feelings for her, it's very difficult to resist smashing all of their faces in.

              Pulling into my apartment building's underground parking, I park in my spot and turn off the ignition. Sophia is fast asleep under the warmth of the blanket. I wanted to rip the card out of her hand when the detective mentioned that he gave her his number. Reaching out a hand, I run my thumb over her soft cheek and whisper gently. "We're here, Sophia." Sophia slowly opens her eyes and gives me a drowsy smile. "Micah." She whispers with a kittenish mewl, which makes my stomach tighten with desire.

              "Can you make it out of the car, or do you need help?" I ask with worry. She shakes her head and opens the door. Sliding out of my own seat, I meet her near the hood of the car and catch her when legs wobble a little. She reminds me of a child who has been woken from a nap. Taking her hand in mine, I lead her to the elevator doors and press the penthouse button.

I live in a large building in the center of Manhattan. I bought the suite a few years after I joined the Confradia. It's a beautiful apartment with two bedrooms and three bathrooms. The apartment has a large living area with ivory marble floors, wall to wall windows comfortable the living room furniture. My mother decorated a few years ago when she saw that my furniture consisted of a futon and a ninety-inch television. She made the apartment comfortable with its contemporary design, charcoal-colored cloth couch, and wrought iron tables. The dining room is a simple glass dining set with side chairs.

              A large glass wall separates the living area from the state of the art kitchen, and the kitchen cabinets are a gleaming obsidian color, gray marble countertops, and stainless steel appliances. There are several modern tapestries on the wall with sketches of human forms and few black leather chaise lounges facing the windows.

              Sophia steps in the center of the room and rests the blanket and my suit jacket on a nearby chair. I observe warily as she moves around the room, absorbing its decor. "Nice place." She says with a sincere smile. I'm surprised that she's not terrified or crying at what happened earlier. I've seen soldiers react the same after during a gunfight. They'll push the memory to the back of their minds and pretend it didn't happen. I guess it's a way to cope. Going along with it, I observe her looking around curiously.

              I'm surprised when she turns to the large, customized entertainment center in front of the large couch, and hones in on the pictures resting on the shelves. There are three pictures on the shelf. There was one of my father and me when I was a boy. That picture was taken the last time I saw my father. I was ten years old, and my father was heading overseas on a mission with his Marine unit. In the picture, my father is wearing his crisp, pressed uniform, with all of his medals, and I'm standing next to him wearing ripped jeans, a Snoopy t-shirt, and a Yankees baseball cap. The other picture was of my mother and me when I graduated from the Marine Corps. Like my father in the previous picture, I'm wearing a pressed uniform. The last picture is of my mother, Tate, Sophia, and me at my mother's wedding. I will never admit this out loud, but the only reason I put the picture up is that Sophia is in it, and I wanted something with her in it to look at.

              Sophia looks at all of the pictures attentively then turns back to me. "Is that your father?" She asks, taking the picture from the shelf and turning it towards me. Nodding my head, I stop next to her and take the picture from her hand. "Yeah. This was taken before he died." She nods her head and looks at the picture again. "He was very handsome. You look like him." I look at the picture for a moment and run my gaze over every angle of my father's face. I remember as a little boy staring at this picture for hours after my father died. Looking at it now, I can see the resemblance. My mother has always told me that I look like him minus the eyes. I have my mother's green eyes. My father had dark chocolate brown eyes.

              "How did he die?" Sophia asks with a note of caution. I look back at her to see that she's sincere in her question and place the picture back on the shelf. "He was on his second tour in Desert Storm. His unit was driving through a town when an IED hit his convoy. I was told that he died instantly." My mouth tightens with emotion. Even after all these years, it hurts to talk about it.

              Sophia must see my pain because she places her hand on my neck and turns my chin in her direction. "I'm sorry, Micah. I know what it's like to lose someone you love. At least yours did not leave you out of choice. My mother walked out on us." She mutters with a quiver in her voice. Her eyes gleam as she gazes down at the floor in contemplation. "I was so mad at her for leaving us. For a long time, I thought she left us because I was a bad daughter." She says this with a sad glint in her eyes. It's almost heartbreaking to see the pain reflected on her face.  

              Taking a deep breath, she utters softly. "But then I realized that it was her loss. And that dad and I were better off without her. Dad found Chelsea now. And your mom is really great."      

              Nodding my head, I take her hand and lead her to the guest bedroom. "Let me show you to your room." She doesn't argue as she follows me down the hallway. There are several doors here. One is for the guest room, the one across from it is my office, and the one in the center is my bedroom. Unlike other Confradia Assassins, I don't keep my weapons in a separate room. All of my weapons are in a secret compartment behind my headboard, which is secured by an encrypted security system. That was the only room I didn't let my mother decorate. I bought the furniture and installed the software myself. My mother definitely had a hand in decorating the guest room, though. The room is a bright blue color, with a large king-size bed, a white headboard, and a teal and gray comforter.

              Sophia steps into the room and moves towards the bed with a catlike grace, which makes my temperature heighten. I watch intently as she takes a seat on the bed and throws herself back with her arms stretched over her head. "Oh, this is so good." She says with a soft groan. Her dress strains against the mounds of her firm breasts and rises high over her thighs as she shifts comfortably over the bedspread.

              "Are you hungry?" I ask, trying to get my mind off how badly I want to crawl over her and kiss every part of her body.

              She rises from her stretch and shakes her head. "Not really. I just want a hot bath and some sleep right now." I nod in agreement and gesture to the én-suite doors. "The bathroom is right over there. There are toiletries and other bath things inside the linen closet." She nods her head and gestures to the bedroom door. "I should get my bags then."

              I shake my head as I make my way to the door. "Just go ahead and take a bath. I'll get the bags." Sophia waves a hand up with gratitude. "Thanks, Micah." Stepping out of the room, I head back to the elevators and walk to my car. Two minutes later, I'm back in my apartment with Sophia's satchel in one hand and her pink rolling bag in the other. My first mistake is that I didn't knock when I went into the room. I simply walked in, laid her bags on the bed, and nearly choked when I caught sight of her image from the bathroom mirror as she was stepping out of her dress. I couldn't help but stop and enjoy the view of her silken body, luscious breasts, and firm ass as she leaned down to turn on the water faucet. And I nearly swallowed my tongue when her hair spread down over her smooth back and slid sensuously over the stiff nubs of her nipples.

              Lust turns to empathy when she takes a seat on the edge of the tub and begins to sob. She looks lost and alone, and it makes me feel like hurting something. She was pretty brave earlier, whether she'd like to think so or not. Normal people don't usually have to deal with a gunfight in a gas station. And unless you've been in battle, having a gun aimed at your head or watching someone die can be very traumatizing. Unable to bear her pain any longer, I step into the bathroom and kneel before her. "Shh… it's okay, Soph." She sniffles a bit and straightens her spine with embarrassment. But her bravery is short-lived because she's suddenly sitting in my lap with her arms wrapped around my neck. My hand runs up and down her silky-smooth back, enjoying the feel of her skin and the comfort I am giving her.

 Keeping her sitting on my lap, I roll up my sleeves and reach over her shoulder to pour some bath salts into the rising bathwater. Sophia's tears subside, but she doesn't let me go. I know I should step out of the room and leave her alone, but it feels so good to hold her close. So Instead, I lift her into my arms, slide her into the rising water, and kneel down on the edge of the tub. She looks lost as she gazes at me from under her wet lashes. Her lips tremble slightly, and her chin quivers. "I thought that I was okay, and then I saw the water pouring… and…and it reminded me of all that blood." She says with a slight croak. She lifts her knees to her chest and rests her forehead on her knees with a bleak slump. Lifting her hair off her back, I push it to one side of her shoulder and lay a soft kiss on her temple. "It's okay to feel this way, Sophia. It means that you're a compassionate person. You should have never had to see something like that. You'll be okay, though. You're a very strong woman." Taking the sponge from the soap dish, I fill it up with soap and run it down her bareback. She sighs with relief and closes her eyes as I soap up her arms and legs.

              After a moment, she sits back and gazes into my eyes before she takes the sponge from me and slides her hand over my tattooed forearm. "You have tattoos?" She asks with fascination. Nodding my head, I slide my hand from under hers and lower the sleeves. It's not that I'm embarrassed by them. I'm just not ready to reveal the intimate nature of them.

              Sophia's eyes dim at my gesture, but she doesn't comment. Instead, she takes the sponge and whispers. "I'll finish bathing myself." I remain kneeling down with my elbows on the edge of the tub for another moment. I want to apologize, but I know that there is no point because there is no explanation that I can give her that wouldn't be too revealing.

              With a clenched jaw, I give her one last longing look and rise from the floor. "Your bags are on the bed, and my bedroom is the one with the red double doors in case there's anything you need," I say before I walk away. I need a drink!

Money Lover had greatly changed from when he first entered the quest. He went from a young lord who had been disgraced to a man of limitless wealth, with many rings and adornments on his body, making him blend in with the others. 
Soon, a woman who was quite fat and pudgy spoke in a croaky voice. "Now that all of us Merchant Lords of Boroneo are assembled, we shall conduct the selection ceremony for the appointment of the centennial Merchant King." 
"Bah, who doesn't know this? Get on with it!" Shouted another pudgy man who had more chins than years left to live. 
"Well, we have a new member among us, an unprecedented talent who rose to prominence in just a few years." Argued another woman who was quite beautiful actually, despite her wealth. 
Still, the sharp glint in her eye told that she was a rose with thorns. Wanting to pluck her would be considered an act of self-harm unless one had the qualifications. 
And from the looks she was giving the ever-calm Money Lover, it seemed he had quite frankly done exactly that. Money Lover winked at her, and she smiled prettily, telling others that they had something going on behind the scenes. 
"That is true, so please get on with it." Another thin and frail woman demanded. She was considerably older than the first two women, which was quite a sight. 
"Such a waste of time…" An old man who looked a lot like Baron D'our sighed. 
"Harrumph. As I was saying, the centennial appointment has arrived. Due to the untimely death of our previous Merchant King, there has been a vacancy for decades now. How do we handle this matter?" The fat woman said, whose name was Hagia. 
"Ah yes, the strange death of our previous ruler before I or Money Lover came around, leaving Boroneo to be governed as an oligarchy without a central figure. Wonder how that came about?" The beautiful woman Katerina asked while looking her straight in the eyes. 
"I can see what you are trying to insinuate, girl, but you'd best be careful about what you say. The walls have ears and knives have no conscience." The old woman said darkly, whose name was Heidi. 
Katerina humphed angrily and was about to retort, but was cut off by the old man who was called Rodrigo. "No need to banter my dear, the old one had been starved of love down there for decades. Frankly, it can get to anyone." 
Katerina burst into laughter, and Heidi's face became black with anger. "You stupid old fool, you dare?" 
The fat man, Borgious, spoke in that loud and shrill voice of his. "Is he lying? Old thing, show us the cobwebs in your undergarments or shut up and let the proceedings continue!" 
Heidi, not understanding why so much fire was directed at her, humphed coldly and went silent. Katerina smirked derisively, making Heidi want to lash out, but she kept quiet. 
Hehe, in her youth, she was a magnificent beauty like Katerina, also laughing at older women who dared to contradict her. But time was merciless and didn't care for beauty. 
In time, Katerina would be in the same spot… 
Thinking this, Heidi smiled genially towards Katerina, who felt all her joy bleed away when her victim was no longer bothered by her provocations. 
Suddenly, the silent Money Lover spoke up. "I propose we select the next Merchant King based on wealth and assets. Frankly, we all know this is the obvious answer." 
The others in the room went silent and then agreed one by one. Boroneo was an Oligarchical state by default, where mercantilism was the religion and money was their god. 
In order to rule a kingdom like this, one would have to be the wealthiest and sharpest of them all. In a cutthroat capitalist environment, it was hard to rise, but once one neared the zenith, the view from the top was truly invigorating. 
None of these people wanted to lose their wealth and becoming the Merchant King was the surest way to ensure that while also gaining even more. They would gain the rights to the military and foreign trade aspects, allowing them to expand crazily. 
The previous Merchant King had been assassinated without a doubt, and no one really mourned him because he was advocating for the kingdom to become one where the government controlled all the resources and funds. 
He didn't even last 6 years in his supposed 100-year office before he was done away with. No one bothered to investigate and no funeral was ever held. To try and arbitrarily make such a drastic change in a kingdom like this was just giving assassins a free job posting. 
"Alright then, shall we declare our assets?" Money Lover prompted. 
"Hmph! Since it has come to this, let me teach you plebeians what true wealth is!" Borgious announced derisively while throwing out a token. 
This was his Merchant's token, the sigil of his position and the recorder of his wealth. Every single merchant had a unique one, and it was for the Merchant King to audit and assess his best Merchant Lords and below. 
In times like this however, it was the most objective and impartial display of wealth should one allow others to see into it.

The old man laughed and tapped the table lightly. "Old hag Heidi, please enlighten us upon the way to go forward." 
"Hmph!" The 'old hag' threw her token down and didn't even bother to look further, as if her victory was assured. This made the others inspect it quickly in order to understand why.

Everyone shuddered, feeling pity for whomever she played with that become twisted enough to wantonly come back for more. 
"Hohoho, now I shall show my prowess!" Hagia chortled with a slap of her belly.

Heidi harrumphed coldly and Rodrigo sighed in agreement. Borgious pointed to Katerina and spoke haughtily." Well, you two younglings are the only ones left. Heh heh, I hope your wealth can match ours, as well as your sharp tongue." 
Katerina frowned, but still threw her token forward.

There was a short spell of silence before the other began chuckling, in a manner that said 'look at that, I was right.' Katerina squeezed her fists in indignation, but Money Lover rubbed her back gently, giving her great comfort. 
"And? Don't keep us waiting. It's time for you to show your wealth, boy." Borgious demanded with a sneer. 
Money Lover nodded and calmly placed his token on the table. When everyone inspected it, there was another spell of laughter, but this was much longer.

"Hold on." Money Lover said gently, brining all attention back onto his person. 
"What is it, boy? You have any complaints to make to your new Merchant Queen?" Heidi asked with a playful smile. 
"Why, yes. I have some things to add…" Money Lover answered cryptically as he removed another token and threw it on the table. 
Confused as to how one person could have two tokens, everyone else checked it out.

I regained it just an hour ago, when Katerina's family, who control the judiciary, ruled that my father had been innocent of all his crimes you tried to put on him." Money Lover explained while tapping his chin playfully. 
Katerina smiled wickedly and leaned on Money Lovers' shoulder like a young maiden lost in love. 
"My father's token was returned to me before his wealth could be divided up by you lot, which was my only saving grace." Money Lover added with a shake of his head. 
He slowly rose to his feet, holding Katerina's supple body in one hand while playing with the two tokens in the other. 
"And now, my first act as the rightful Merchant King of Boroneo, I shall mete out justice on his behalf."

Mu Li was in her waitress uniform as she carried a glass of juice into the corridor. "Here, a glass of juice for our great artist Su Xiaomo."
"Teehee. How about a smile for me, peach~" Su Xiaomo lifted Mu Li's chin with a crooked smile, looking like a ruffian through and through.
Mu Li played along and gave her a little smile. Su Xiaomo took a sip of the juice and gave Mu Li a wink. "My fair maiden, your smile is even sweeter than this juice~"
Mu Li flushed a little. She feigned an annoyed look and rolled her eyes. "You definitely chose the wrong sex when you were born!"
Su Xiaomo stood there with arms akimbo and grinned. She then picked up the paintbrush and went back to her drawing.
Mu Li was working part-time in this bar, which had been going through a recent revamp. The owner of the bar was after something unique. He had happened to see one of Su Xiaomo's works in an art exhibition and had been quite taken by it. After asking the owner of the art gallery about it, he was told that the artist was a Yu City local. The bar owner had then hired Su Xiaomo after repeated invitations, asking her to draw decor on several of the bar's walls.
If one asked Mu Li, she had no idea what on earth Su Xiaomo was painting. However, her boss, that fussy, harsh Virgo guy, thought the world of those paintings. He would walk around exclaiming, "That's art! That's what real art should look like!" which almost made Mu Li doubt her own taste.
"Momo, what on earth are you drawing here…" Mu Li asked, craving an answer.
Su Xiaomo rolled her eyes. "How should I know? I'm just doodling."
"…" Mu Li didn't know what to say. That doodle was worth six digits, and she genuinely felt sorry for her boss.
"Hey, isn't that He Jiayu?" Mu Li's sharp eyes caught sight of He Jiayu wearing a cap and walking into a private room. Su Xiaomo's face lit up at those words. "He Jiayu is here? I bet Sheng Yize is with him!"
She tossed her paintbrush away, rubbed her hands together, and was ready for some action.
Mu Li was alarmed. "What are you doing?"
"Revenge for Xiaxia, obviously! I'm gonna bash Sheng Yize's face in!"
She kicked the door to the private room open like she owned the place and found over a dozen people inside. Apart from the three members of Starry Night, there were also other men and women of the upper class, who turned their heads to Su Xiaomo in unison.
Su Xiaomo felt her legs give way under her immediately. She gritted her teeth and decided to stick to her plan!
"Where's Sheng Yize?" she bellowed boorishly.
A fair-skinned boy pointed at a corner. "There, Young Master Sheng is having a drink. Auntie, what are you doing here?"

Su Xiaomo swore a blood vessel had just burst in her head!
She pointed at that boy, then at herself. "What did you just call me? Auntie?"
For the sake of convenience, she had on an old checked shirt and a pair of jeans today, together with an apron which had been splattered with paint and dirt. Her clothes might be shabby, but at least she had a pretty face for a teenage girl. Where had that "auntie" come from?
"Oh, I see! Sorry, wrong title!" The boy seemed to come to his senses right away. "Obasan, what are you doing here? We're not finished yet. Please come back to clean up later!"
Su Xiaomo rolled her eyes and wanted to kick his ass!

Following the owner's gaze, Ling Tianya looked over at Ruan Zeyan who was standing by the door. He was just standing there, and Ling Tianya couldn't help but think about when they had first met.
He was in a hurry that day. He had walked in quickly and had ordered a cup of cappuccino from her at the bar.
She had just started working there, and she wasn't good at latte art yet. She spent a long time making the coffee for him.

She had alone in the cafe then because the boss had gone to the washroom. Ling Tianya had wanted to ask him if he wanted to change his order or wait for the female owner to return.
Instead, he was relaxed and told her to take her time.
Ling Tianya carefully made a cup of cappuccino for him. It was the first time she had managed to draw a heart shape in the coffee.
The man took the coffee from her and stood at the bar as he started sipping on his drink slowly. Ling Tianya went on to do her own things and she worked on trying to memorize the text from her English class from time to time.
Ruan Zeyan had left not after long. Before he took his leave, he had said to her, "Your coffee tastes very good."
It was the first time they met and the first time she made latte art, so it was a meaningful day for Ling Tianya.
Ling Tianya was pulled back to the present, and she smiled as she walked towards her husband."When did you call the lady boss?"
Ruan Zeyan looked at her dotingly. "When you were changing and washing."
Ling Tianya's eyes were twinkling. "You already knew that I would want to drop by here?"
"Yeah." He was grinning, and he tugged on her ponytail playfully. He used to enjoy doing that as well.
He used to sneak to the cafe secretly and tug on her ponytail while she was busy working.
Ling Tianya was moved by his gesture. Although her man was so busy that he had no time to prepare a gift for her, she still felt the romance that Valentine's Day.
Compared to a material gift, Ruan Zeyan's heart and sincerity mattered much more to her.
Or rather, Ruan Zeyan was the best Valentine's gift she could ask for.
That Valentine's Day, Ling Tianya and Ruan Zeyan didn't go anywhere else. They stayed in the cafe for the entire day and tried their hand at latte art. After a few unsuccessful tries, Ling Tianya finally warmed up and managed to make a cup of heart-shaped cappuccino.

The following day after Valentine's Day was New Year's Eve. Ruan Qishan was in a good mood that year. In honor of Tiny Rice Ball, he gave a generous bonus to every employee at Ruan Teng Corporation.
All the employees were extremely thankful towards their little master, Tiny Rice Ball, before he could even speak.
That year, Ling Tianya invited Yu Chenshi and Yu Luoluo to the Ruan family for New Year celebrations as well. On the first day of the New Year, Ling Tianya went to the hospital and spent the entire day with Ling Tao who was still in a coma.

But all he got in exchange was an eye roll, "Keep it for yourself, I don't need it!"

After some days they were well settled in the apartment.Isabella loved doing room decor. She chose deep golden coloured furniture and did some photo wall art. She added some series for decor and some small plants. Her room looked aesthetic and pleasing. 

They were getting used to the apartment but as expected , Noah used to always bother Isabella knocking the door for the most unreasonable things like asking for sugar, having a chit chat with Ivy, feeling lonely. And the worst playing loud music early morning.But soon some old neighbor came to give him some lessons and scolded him . Isabella got a good show that day.

It's been few weeks , she hasn't seen Blake  . She was missing him. She randomly asked Noah about him. He told her that he was on some vacation with his family.

Everything was going normal but Isabella was noticing the closeness of Noah and Ivy.

They didn't let any chance of meeting go in vain. Whenever she asked if there's something they used to shoo it off saying she was thinking too much. Isabella didn't think much and paid her attention on studies.

Isabella POV

One weekend evening,Me ,Ivy and Noah were chilling watching movies on Netflix after a pizza party which was fun at Noah place.

" Let's watch some horror" I suggested. "On come on , I freak out" Ivy immediately rejected. " Ladies , No fear Noah is here" Noah cracked his stupid joke. I rolled my eyes. While Ivy blushed looking at him.

Finally , she agreed and the movie started.

Suddenly the door bell rang Ring* . Ivy jumped and snuggling against Noah. I laughed at her while Noah comforted her.

I got up and opened it , shocked at the person standing. It was Blake.

He looked tired , and haven't shaved his hair had grown out. He seemed as if he had cried. The shine in those green eyes were lost. He looked miserable. My heart clenched at his condition.

I felt like hugging him and comforting him from all his pain. He didn't maintained eye contact for long.

I snapped out of my thoughts." B.. Blake " I shuttered. " Hey " he whispered as if his voice was gone. Before I could ask something Noah called out my name " Izzy" .

He came closer and jumped at Blake hugging him tightly " hey man , where were you?" Noah chirped happily.

Blake smiled at him half-heartedly and replied" Just busy budd" .He continued making eye contact with me " Actually there's something important I wanted to talk" Blake said breaking the hug.

" Everything's alright??"Noah asked concerned. " Ya ya just missed you " he winked giving a smile. " Let's talk outside" Noah said pulling him towards the exit. Blake nodded and smiled at me.

" He was fucking hot man!" ivy said close to my ear . I jumped getting scared . " My god Ivy you scared me " I said keeping a hand on my chest . " You two look quite close " she said closing the door behind me. " No we are not, he's Noah best friend" I answered.

" The intensity with which you two were looking at each other I felt like you are about to eat him" she teased me. I rolled my eyes at her .

Meanwhile in the garden. 

" So how was the trip??" Noah smiled.   "Pretty good " Blake said looking down. "Blake tell me , you don't look fine "Noah said keeping a hand on his shoulder. "Nothing much" Blake replied. This time Noah blinked his eyes reassuringly. Blake continued " I am gonna leave college" Blake said with dull expression. " What!?????" Noah was shocked.

" My dad wants me to join his business, throughout this trip he gave me mental torture about taking care of my family and business. I tried to explain him to give me some time but he doesn't understands" his voice broke at last sentence.

Noah knew how bad and how hard his friend was working for his dream . But Blake's father was not even caring about his dreams .

" I have an idea , it will give you some time to think and a break from your father's torture" Noah said with stern voice. Blake looked at him confused. " Move in with me it will give you break as well as help you making a proper decision , don't make a rash decision" Noah suggestion with sincerity in his eyes.At first Blake was shocked but later he hugged him tightly thanking for his advice.

The next morning Blake left his house secretly only informing his mother of his whereabouts. His mother loved him more than anything else and supported his decision of moving out. She promised him she will handle everything he should do what felt right.

By afternoon he reached Noah apartment with all his luggage. Noah welcomed him warmly and gave him an apartment and his room tour. 

Blake was unpacking his luggage he heard Isabella voice from the hall . She was talking to Noah about something. " Please buy me some drinks and snacks Izzy I am hungry" Noah said pleading her.

She rolled her eyes at his acting . She looked gorgeous even doing that.Noah noticed Blake standing there. " Hey Blake , you came at the right time , go with Izzy she will help you for getting stuff for your room."

Their eyes met . She smiled at him warmly. " No, I don't wanna bother her for such reasons , I can get things lat..." She interrupted . " You won't" she said giving a charming smile.

" O come on go with her, she's an expert in such things" Noah praised her. Blake nodded "Alright " and they left together.

My head hurts. It really, really hurts. 

Not that I am a stranger to headaches of course. Getting regularly smashed at the pub will do that to you. Still, this level of pain is really something else. Its like a drill boring into my brain. Drilling away, drilling away, drilling away. No relief, no reprieve, no rest. Just that blinding, overwhelming pain, preventing me from moving or even opening my eyes.

I smell the dubious bouquet of stale alcohol coupled with the rancid aroma of puke. Did I throw up on myself? God, when did I become so gross? My drinking was always kept under control. 

The headache finally begins to subside. Rather than a drill, it feels more like my head had become a massive bruise. I open my eyes and see an unfamiliar ceiling. An old ceiling fan hypnotically churns the air over me. I feel the surface I am lying on, an old mattress. At least I did not collapse in a gutter. That would really suck.  Looks like a kind soul let me crash for the night. Unless I am missing a kidney. That would suck even more. 

My joints pop as I stretch and heave myself off the mattress. Huh. No puke on my clothes. That's a relief. Wait are these even my clothes? And where is that stale booze smell coming from? Better slow down, take stock, get a handle on things. That's what you usually do when you wake up from a bender. Good advise all round too. 

Clothes first. Examining the clothes on me, I realize its a bartender's uniform strongly smelling of alcohol. There's a name tag proudly displaying the word "GALLANT" in bright red colors. First of all, I am not a bartender, never was. Second, my name is not Gallant nor am I particularly gallant. I may be a man, but I get ridden rough shod by that bitch of a boss. If only there was actual riding involved. For all her faults, she's pretty hot. 

The room is really just a small bedroom. There's a wardrobe, a small desk coupled with a cushioned chair, a window (closed), the mattress I was lying on (no bed, no bed sheets even, what the hell), a plain wooden doors (closed), a sliding partition to what looks like the bathroom (also closed). Really classy. Like the minimalist approach to home decor. 

So I am in another man's clothes, having slept over in his home probably after going on a bender. Well things could be worse. At most I would have to apologize for making a nuisance of myself. If Mr GALLANT was really mad at me he would have dumped me out on the street instead of letting me stay in this room overnight. Hell, with the kind of business I probably gave him last night, what has he got to be mad about?

I stretch myself a few more times and walk towards the door. Well, time to make a move. Remember to look appropriately remorseful before my host. I wonder if he had taken the liberty to clean my clothes? 

Huh. Door's locked. Odd. There's no way to open it from the inside? I try knocking on it. No response. 

With cold sweat trickling down my back, I try the partition. Does not budge. Right. Don't panic. Slow down, take stock, get a handle on things. 

I am locked in an unknown room, wearing an unknown man's clothes, with no idea how I got there. 

I think I should start panicking right about now.

Trapped in a world not my own. Facing a destiny never meant to pass. Dealing with a hero doomed to defeat. Which will end first, this world or my life?
