"Excuse me, sir?"

"Yes Jane, come in," Edward called.

Taking a deep breath I went inside. My heart was pounding and felt so nervous. I don't think I will be the one but still, inside I am having an unknown confidence.

"Good morning sir."

"Morning Jane. By the way, Mr. Stephen really appreciated your intellect and confidence. You did the interview very well." He appreciated but his face was not happy. Whether I failed?

"Thank you, sir," I replied and looked him in a curious way.

"But... I am little sad Jane cause you are going to leave from here," he stated.

"What?"

"Congratulations Jane you are selected as a PA for our CEO Mr. Michael Aaron, as I expected."

I was literally shocked to hear that. I really got the Job! Oh. My. God.

"Thank you, sir, it is all because of you." I acknowledged him.

"No Jane, you deserved that. Just now I got the mail from them and I will pass that to you. From tomorrow onwards you are going to work with Mr. Michael. Mr. Stephen will guide you for few days before his absence so you can know about everything." He explained and I nodded my head.

"Okay, Jane enjoy your day. You can go now."

I came out and immediately informed this to Jenny and she congratulated me. And Edward said this to our staffs and everyone cheered me. I didn't expect this would turn this way.

Like Jenny said I am little thrilled to work with the most powerful man in the world and with the handsome guy I have ever met.

"Oh? Then where did you get it? Was it given to you as a gift?"

"Yes, something like that."

Some of the people finally understood the host's purpose for asking these questions. The camera zoomed in on Iris' diamond ring. It sparkled under the lights. The design fit Iris extremely well. The people, be it the audience, the staff, the other performers and the viewers at home, stopped talking and listened intently to the interview, not wanting to miss even a single word.

"How nice! Who gave it to you?" The female host continued to ask. "Don't tell me it's an engagement ring. Ahaha!"

The male host also chuckled, including some of the people. They treated it as a good joke.

"Yes." Iris nodded.

The laughter stopped. Eyes widened.

"Camera #6 and #10, focus on Iris' face. Make sure not to miss any of her expression," Director He instructed. He almost rubbed his hands together. He had a feeling that this would drive up the ratings of tonight's episode.

"Iris, what did you say? You're engaged?" The male host asked this time.

"Yes, I am engaged," Iris answered with a soft smile.

Gasps everywhere. 

Male host: "Uh…wow. What a surprise…er…congratulations, Iris…" 

Female host: "Congratulations! That's wonderful!" 

Iris: "Thank you."

Female host: "Can we know who your lucky fiancé is? Is he from showbiz as well? How long have you been engaged?"

Iris: "I want to keep him to myself first. No, he's not from showbiz. Not that long ago. Only a few days before I returned to the country."

Female host: "I see. Do you love your fiancé?"

"Of course. I love him very much," Iris answered, looking directly at the camera in front of her, knowing that Jin Liwei was watching. "I love you, darling."

Many people, especially the females, squealed when they heard her public declaration of love to her mystery man. 

Unfortunately, Director He had to cut the interview at that point even when everyone wanted to hear more. Iris' manager and even a Bright Summit higher-up were already calling the show requesting him to put a stop to the interview. It seemed that Iris didn't inform her management that she would be revealing her relationship status in the show tonight. They were freaking out. As a courtesy to Bright Summit and to maintain a good relationship with them, he instructed the hosts to wrap up the interview. The show took a short commercial break.

Once Iris returned backstage, Jin Liwei embraced her. Many staff and other artists saw them.

"I love you, too," he whispered.

The way she looked at him was no doubt that of a woman in love.

Seeing that some people were taking photos and recording them on video with their phones, Jin Liwei was about to threaten them but Iris stopped him.

"Don't worry. I'll take care of them. No photo or video of us will be leaked to the public before we reveal it ourselves. When we reveal you and our relationship, it will be on our own terms," she assured him. 

Then she took her phone from Dom and messaged Hou Liang to hack into all the devices in the place right now, from the people's mobile phones to the show's cameras and the building's CCTVs. He was to delete any photos or videos showing her and Jin Liwei.

She would've done it herself, but the situation called for urgency because some people might upload the images or videos to the internet immediately after taking them.

Dom's phone was ringing nonstop. It was Tang Yiyi, but he didn't answer it in front of other people. Jiang Ying Yue and her male colleague went into protective mode, preventing others from getting near Iris' group, as they made their way back to her dressing room.

Jin Liwei made a quick call to his subordinates waiting outside the building to quickly gather, pick them up and escort them safely out of the building. He also called for additional back-up security from his mansion just in case the media started following them.

Once the group entered the dressing room, they locked the door. The make-up artist and hair stylist were watching the broadcast on TV. They were able to put two and two together. So the masked man must be Iris' fiancé. They hoped that he would uncover his face so that they could see what he looked like. However, they also knew that the two of them hadn't earned their new employer's trust yet to have that privilege.

Dom's phone started ringing again. He answered it.

"Hello, Big Sis Yi— Ah! My ear! Please calm down, Big Sis Yiyi. Please don't yell...."

Everyone in the room could hear the manager yelling even when the phone wasn't on speaker.

"Give me the phone," Iris said.

When she answered the phone, Tang Yiyi scolded her seriously for the first time since they started working together.

"Iris! I can't believe this! I thought that the Pandemonium boys already gave me a big headache tonight, but I didn't expect that you'll give me an even bigger headache! Why didn't you tell me you're engaged?"

Phew, the interview was done very quickly!

The interviewers were friendly—I bet they are teachers for Basic Level 1.

They didn't ask for any weird things; only the small matters, just like how Dad asked me to introduce myself to him. Guess Dad's blessing and training(?) really worked!

I think they just wanted to know us, how we could behave ourselves and answer them nicely.

When I stepped out of the interview room and when the assigned teacher called for Iris, we met in the middle of our ways. I smiled widely and it somehow managed to decrease Iris' nervousness (it's showing on her face!)

I whispered [good luck] to her. I'm sure she heard it, because I saw the corner of her mouth slightly curled up.

 

After that, the children my batch who's done with the interview are taken to another room to wait for the next test, the psych-test, which will be very easy for me, as my mental age, HAHAHAHA! What is this? Having my memories becomes somewhat a cheat in this kind of situation?

When Iris stepped out of the room, she sighed in relief and smiled back at me. We sat next to each other and talked again, of course our topic was about the interview test just now!

 

"It's all thanks to you, Lyra! I imagined that the adults were my bunny doll, my bear doll, and my little puppy doll!"

After taking a bath, I decided I can't wait anymore so I woke up Taylor.
"Come on we need to go now"
"Now? You said at 8?"
"No now! Time to wake her up, so that she can see me again" I said as I looked in watch it was around 7:35.

By the time we reach there, the front door of her apartment was open, and we heard a voice, we were not expecting. It was Daisy.
Saying some shit to Britt. She was always like this. Rude and tough most of the time. She had a soft side in her but no one was allowed to see that side. 
But this time it felt like Daisy was on my side, as she was asking Britt about Ross. I too needed answers, maybe Britt will tell her the truth. 

But she refused to tell her anything. I stood there trying to listen to, what they were talking while trying to keep Taylor quiet, which was a bigger task as Taylor was acting like a fucking jelly. 

"Just go, face her, be a man," he said and pushed me. And I stumbled to which he started laughing like a donkey. 
*sometimes I hate this asshole so much that I want to kill him* 

I stood straight, Britt's back was to me and in front of her stood Stella. 
I am sure her expressions were matching with mine. Because I was also in a state of shock as her after being pushed by my jerk of a friend who can't seem to recall how to stop laughing. 

And next second Britt was turning to face me. She looked tired and surprised. 
And Daisy roared from the living room with not so welcoming words. 

Without wasting or giving time I pulled out iPod and kept it in her hand. She looked confused. So I told her that she left it at the bar instead of telling her that I found it on the floor as it will bring back bad-fighting memory. 
 
That's when my mind stroked me like heavens were helping me it. This has happened before. The 2nd time she met me when she came to pick her phone back. Before I could stop myself I kissed her at the top of her head just like I did years ago. 

In a hope to bring back some memories,in a hope to bring back some parts of Britt I loved back and to enlighten the love lost in her again. I wanted to hold her tightly, I wanted to taste her more, I want her back. Taylor pulled my shirt to remind me that I need to let her go. I separated from her. See you again, definitely seeing her again. 

When we parted ways, I saw her eyes, they hold the same hurt, as they held years ago. Same sad eyes, same questions in her eyes. 

Before I could do something more stupid like begging her on my knees, Taylor pulled me away.
"Leave me," I said
"Why? One step at a time Mav. What do you want to scare her away, make her believe that you are a creep" he said, amazing me as after years he said something which made sense. 
"Yeah right," I said pushing him away

Then we saw Daisy coming out of the apartment, we choose to ignore her and stood there in silence as she hopped in the elevator and left us with a goodbye saying "assholes"

"You are bad for my rep-uta- tion," Taylor said mocking me and I punched him in the gut. 
"Let's wait for Stella, she was with Britt. you have something important then you can leave?" I asked him
"Yeah I have a meeting with Dicaprio for our next movie," he said with a wink "who is Stella btw?" He asked
"Britt's friend, she lives in that apartment," I said pointing at Stella's apartment. 
"She better be hot I ain't living sleepless life for nothing," he said with hysterical laughter and slid down to the floor. "Wake me up when Stellaaaaaa is here" 
"Okay and yas she is hell sexy," I said and sat next to him.
"Can wait to see her Daddy?" he said and kept his head on my shoulder "now sing a lullaby for me Daddddyyyyyyy..." 
I pushed him away to which he laughed.

After 20 minutes Stella came out of Britt's apartment
"Well that was a show," she said as she walked toward us. I got up from the floor "who is this homeless?' She asked with a laugh and pointed at Taylor who now was laying on his stomach on the floor. 
" hello how have you been," I said as I hugged her "friend of our, Taylor" 
"I want to ask something about Britt. Will you tell me ?" I asked her pleading
"What will I get?" She said mocking me 
"Me!" I said with a wink "and him if you want" 
"Stop hitting on me you asshole you are not my type," she said with a laugh and her whole body shook "come have breakfast with me plus I don't think we should talk here in open like this Britt can come out anytime" 
"She is going somewhere?" I asked her as I kicked Taylor to wake him up "get up" 
"Sexy Stella is here?" He said as he got up
"Hi I am sexy Stella, I hope, my age won't bother you hottie *let's go in*," Stella said as she hugged him. Taylor looked like he lost his blood, I laughed and Stella laughed harder.
"Noooo," Taylor said as he pulled away from her
"She is just joking," I said as we followed her inside. 
Then my phone rang. It was from My agent who was trying to help me get a job. 
"Oh shit!" I said as soon as I answered the phone.
"What you forgot about the interview? at 10... meet me in front of the building, I've sent you to address in the mail" he said in not so happy tone "3 times" 
"Okay" I looked at the time it was 8:40 and he hung up. 

"Stella I have an interview in an hour so answer me real quick" 
"What?" Said Taylor and Stella at the same time. 
"What?" I asked in a questioning tone.
"You have an interview?" Said, Stella
"In an hour!" Said Taylor.
"Yes, so answer me is Britt seeing someone?" 
"I think yes," she said with a sigh "some bartender," she said adding a more dramatic sigh
"Ross? Taylor saw Nina and him making out last night" I said.
"No way," Stella said.
"Yes- way! With my own eyes, sexy Stella..." Talyor said which made Stella laugh
"But I am sure she is seeing someone, otherwise she won't hide it from me, when I questioned her, she ignored me," Stella said

Something moved in me, moreover, something broken inside me fell down, to end all the hopes at her words. 

"Leave your number, I will tell you if I get to know something about it," Stella said and held my hand in hers. 
"Thank you lovely," I said "I need to go" and hugged her
"Okay," Stella said. "You are also leaving Sexy" she mocked Taylor
"Aawwwww yes honey," Taylor said and Stella hugged him as well which left Taylor surprised. This is what I love about her Stella make you feel like you are her own family. 

We left and literally broke many traffic rules. I went back to the apartment, changed my clothes, and back to the building where I was supposed to be at 10. This place was close to Britt's place.

Chris my agent, looked more nervous for my interview than me. 
"We still have 10 minutes, can we go and have a coffee?" I asked 
"Yes," said Taylor "No!" Said Chris followed by an awkward silence. 
"Okay okay let's go in," I said in surrender "Tay you can go back and sleep I'll come back home by cab," I said to Taylor and followed Chris.

After sitting in the waiting area for about 2 hours they called my name. To which Chris almost had a panic attack. And I had to console him that I will do fine. Seriously what is wrong with people around me? 

Inside the room there stood a tall, suited man, with gray hair, wrinkled face, strong structure. whom I knew very well at once. It was uncle Rob, he use to be good friends with my mother, almost like family, Dad always had fights with mother because of him, Dad always doubted their friendship, but after Mom's death, Rob stops paying a visit and things just went their own ways. 
"I can't believe it's you?" Rab said as he came forward to hug me. 
"Uncle Rob" I hugged him back and he nodded "nice to see you again" 
"How have you been?" He asked me and pointed to sit
"you tell me how are you, God I can't believe I am seeing you after... 10 years?"  I said
"12 years Son," he said "you are here for an interview?" handing me a drink
"Yes sir," I said
"Hmmm I see," he said mocking me.
"So... Ask away," I said with full enthusiasm
"From when you can start?" He asked deadass
"What? As in start working?" Confused I asked him
"Yes," he said with a smile.
"Uncle Rob, you should know this I don't have any degree or experience-"

"What happened in there?" He asked taking long breaths and hyperventilating
"Well I got it, he use to be my family friend," I said as I looked at Rob who now is entering the elevator. 
"Yessssss" he shouted 
"Calm down boy," I said as he hugged me.
"Thank god, you know you are my first client, my first client got a job in the first interview... Yes!" He said.
"Seriously?" I said shocked and he nodded with a big smile which made his all 32 teeth visible at once
"So I am your experiment object?" 
"No you are my first client," he said 
"Let's go I have to start working from tonight, and I need sleep," I said with a sigh

We came down to find Taylor sleeping in the parking lot... Sleeping in his car. I punched the door to which he startled awake. 
"You back? What happened in there?" Tay asked me

I smiled this man has been with me since we were kids and every day he is a new person.

We went home and spent the whole day sleeping. 

I had to be at the club by 7 but when we woke up it was 9:30 
"Shit!" I panicked
"Wha- what happened?" Taylor asked.
"I had to be at the club by 7!" I said putting on clothes at my full speed.
"We will reach on time don't worry, " Taylor said as he moved to pick his phone and then his eyes widen 
"Holy-- christ it is 9:30!" He shouted like I didn't know this already

By the time we reached club, it was 10:10, thank god this is not my first official day at the job. I called Rob on my way to tell him and explain why I was late to which he laughed. 

"Can I join you!" Taylor asked me
"Yes, drinks on you," I said 
"Okay," he said with a shoulder shrug imitating girls "from next time you are paying" and giggled

We went inside the club "Ruby's" which is at the end of the alley and as Rob told me, it was not a big club, there were around 10 tables, a dance platform, a small bar counter. 

We sat down at the table after getting our drinks, beer for Tay, coke, and soda for me. 
 
"He was right this club is dead," I said to Taylor
"Yeah, I mean... This club is empty on a weekend, I mean how many people are there on the dance floor, 8 or 10" 
"I have to do something for this club. This place must mean something for him, otherwise, why would he want to this shady club when he has a business worth millions?" 
"Hmmm.," Taylor said "now let me enjoy my drink" 

I was taking in the atmosphere, not crowded at all, this club needs new furniture, a new DJ, a new dance platform, new everything. I could only see 2 staff there, one boy, who should be called Teddy bear as per his physique, average height, chubby cheeks, curl hairs. And another one was a girl with blond hair. 

I went to talk to them near the bar counter, Teddy bear was bush on his phone, the wait is he playing games? 
Blond stood up as she saw me.
"You need another drink?" Blond asked me 
"No, can we talk," I said 
"She is engaged, no chance loser," said the boy without looking up and blond girl kicked him
"Don't mind himMyselfld Maya, by the way?" she said 
"Hi I am Mav I have no other intention- " but my voice was cut by Taylor
"Look at her?" He said while taking a sip from beer and stood next to me

A girl in very short I mean very short dress, wild curls throwing here and there grooving along with the music. Back to us, with one heel in one hand and when she turned, I saw a girl with heavy makeup, smudged, singing the song and dancing in a way no one should be allowed. 2 Boys hovering over her and she ignoring them like a professional. 

"Fuck!!!!" I shouted
"That's Ruby She is a regular customer here, so we know don't even try on her," Maya said with a hand wave.

"Ummm hmmm she is Brittany," Taylor said with a laugh "no night is boring with you Mav"

I stood there for about 20 second and then I went towards the brown haired petite girl that stood waiting for me with a big smile on her face. 

'The boss already told me about you. We will start from tomorrow morning, I will kindly ask you to be here much earlier. For now I will show you around the firm. Follow me.' 

And follow her I did. To say that the company was big is an understatement. It was friggin huge, and there were over 2000 workers. Can you even imagine so many people sitting in those little cubicles and doing their job all day long? And those are only inside the main building, while the firm has a filial in other 8 cities like London, Vienna or Greece. They even have one in Madagascar. So many people work for this firm that you could say it is more like an empire and not a family business. As for the main building it had 28 floors, and the floor that I would work on is the very last one. 

The girl, Mindy, showed me around the entire firm, and told me that I don't really need to memorize them all in that moment because I will do it in time. She also told me that she needed months to know them all, and there was one time when she mistook the PR department with the economic one. I could already feel anxious just thinking what huge responsibility I'll have, and I'm only a secretary. I don't even want to imagine what responsibility the boss has; he is managing so many people and has control over so many lives that for some he looks like a god.

'Well this concludes the tour. I'm reminding you that tomorrow you need to come much earlier' she told me while looking at her watch.

I could guess that the man who came was quite important for her because all of a sudden her expression changed. Not wanting to interrupt their time together I took my purse from her chair and left while giving her a wave, I saw she wave back just before the elevator door closing. 

When the elevator reached 17th floor the door opened and a man entered the elevator. While being lost in my own world I didn't even observed or felt his presence until I heard his phone ringing. At first all I saw was a big black back. He had broad shoulders and you could observe even through his suit that he had well defined muscles. But the thing that got my attention was the black thing made from steel that he had underneath his suit jacket. I knew right away cuz' this was not the first time that I saw one.

That bloody thing that made my father always to be on edge and in the end taking them both from me. From the longest time that I remember my father always had one or two guns with him. I remember one time when my father came to take me from school. He would always be on time but on that day he was late. As usual I left the class and went towards the school gate, but when I only saw the car and that my father was not in it I started looking for him. So me being the curious kid I went toward the direction from where his voice was heard, which sounded quite nervous.

I found him behind the schools wall. He was shouting at a men and he had a gun pointed to that man's head. That was the first time that I saw my father handling a gun but after that there could always be times when I saw his guns underneath his jacket.

It could be that I stared too hard at the man's back because all of a sudden I could fell his eyes on me. He was looking at me through the surface of the elevator's door. Those eyes were so blue that you would think that you are looking at the sky. Then the doors opened and I could see that we reached the ground floor. Wanting to escape the same space as the blue eyed man I almost started to run, but I gave up that idea because I wore heels and I didn't want to fall and break my neck on that shiny floor.

While walking towards the exit I could fell his eyes on me. I chose to ignore it, not turning to look at him I walked until I was out of the building. As my feet were killing me because of the heels I preferred to take a taxi towards home, and a wise choice it was.

The moment I reached home and thrown my heels it was like I was in heaven. I don't know about you but I love my snickers and flats. Even if I was happy that I managed to be hired, the fact that I needed to wear those killer shoes made me want to cry. May my poor feet rest in peace!

'Hey ningyō, how did the interview go?' out of nowhere Yuuichi appeared and asked me making me almost drop the glass that I had in hand.

'Well..... you see'

'What's wrong? Did they refuse you?' I could already see him furrowing him eyebrows in anger. It was nice to see that he was so concerned about me.

'Actually, I got it. He hired me' I said to him while having the biggest smile I had on my face. Yuuichi came towards me and gave me a bear-like embrace and I could sweat that he had some tears in his eyes.

'Because I know you and I know how smart you really are. If they didn't hire you it would have been their lost' he said while nodding his head in a proud manner.

'I'll always do. Did you tell Sarah the good news?'

'Oh no! She will have my head for not calling her! I also forgot to tell her yesterday about the other interview.'
