Hearing that, Mage Vinci asked doubtfully, "Really?"

"Of course!"

"...Alright then." There was still some reservation in Mage Vinci’s demeanor, but as it was all to rebel against the Church, he still nodded, and even advised, "Oh right, you had better be careful. The Church has been suspiciously quiet lately, and there seems to be some undercurrent."     

"Don’t worry. We will be very careful."

Regardless of what the situation was now in the City of Snow, they would definitely not get involved. In last night’s meeting, they had discussed and determined the stronghold cities; these were all middle sized cities in Ferelden that were quite a distance away from the City of Snow, and could probably put an end to the influence the Church had on them.

Ever since the serial assassination, the Church had quiet down and been up to god-knows-what. Concerning this, Benjamin of course subconsciously felt that they were holding on to some trump card; therefore he was on high alert and went about his business very carefully.

The situation so far had been good. He could not let the Church use the element of surprise and destroy everything.

Thus, after Mage Vinci had agreed, he quickly put Benjamin in contact with a publication house. However, it was surprising to him that this publication house was not from within Ferelden, but from Carretas.                

"Ferelden’s publication houses have inextricable links to the government officials. So to be on the safe side, you’d best look to them for help." Mage Vinci explained.

Although Benjamin knew Ferelden had links with the Church, but at least… The enemy nearest to them now was the Church’s influence on Ferelden. Carretas was further off, the influence might not be effective.

He had no choice. Although they had published the Declaration of the Freedom of Magic before, that was slightly different from publishing a newspaper. A booklet could be written in a more casual method; as long as there was enough magic knowledge and inspirational quotes, it was good enough. But for a newspaper, they needed professional journalists and artists, in addition to the great necessity of paper and printing.

Because of that, he nodded and did not protest.

"We need articles on these topics, and suitable illustrations. Set the print quota on thirty thousand copies. You have specialized printing presses over in Carrestas. So you should be able to get it done?"

A few days later, in a little city on the borders of Ferelden, Benjamin met up with a representative from the publication house.

"As long as you can meet our fees, anything can be done." The representative rubbed his hands, answering with a grin.

Benjamin nodded.

After learning he standard procedures for the publication of a newspaper from him, he handed over the relevant materials to the representative and paid the deposit. After agreeing on the time for the next meeting, they left the place cautiously.

The name of the newspaper had been determined. It was going to be ‘The Free Mage’.

The influence of the Declaration of the Freedom of Magic still existed amongst the mages. To ride on the trend and cause the mages to feel that this was a continuation of the booklet, he had to continue on this intellectual property and work diligently on making this business a brand of his own.

Benjamin’s first requirement for the articles in the newspaper was that they had to be entertaining enough to attract the mages to continue reading. However, he did not hand over the responsibility for the most important piece of news on the headlines to the publication house’s journalists; he was going to handle that himself.

In the past, Mage Vinci had mentioned to him that, when the Church’s ban had been lifted, there were mages that had gone to the palace to petition the Queen, and subsequently disappeared without a trace. Benjamin had obtained the names and information on all the mages for such a time as this, to be the first list of victims used to criticize the Church.

And so, returning to the City of Rayleigh, Benjamin made arrangements, for his men to move about to begin building the secret strongholds and newspaper channels in every city. On the surface, they seemed to be a newly established publication house. Underground, however, were the secret rooms, tunnels, offices… These were constructed, bit by bit.

In twos and threes, the mages and the mercenaries entered a total of seventeen mid-sized cities, and began their organization’s foundation building.  

As for Benjamin himself, he sat in the hotel looking at the bundles of information next to his hand. He took a deep breath and, on a crisp new piece of paper, wrote the title of his article.

‘Remembering Mage Deere’

Dipped into ink, in Benjamin’s hand, the tip of the feather pen moved lightly, at a rapid speed, laying line upon line of words on the white paper.

"A true warrior who dared to face a dismal life, brave…"

"...I have never refrained from assuming the worst when judging the Church, however I had never expected…"

In his mind, his consciousness unwillingly repeated in his memory, the text he had learnt back in High School. And he was now editing these words, translating… Finally wrapping it up into an entirely new analytical piece on current affairs.

This was definitely a good opportunity. He was aware of his limited penmanship, he could not reach the level necessary, so he could only borrow the wisdom of his predecessors. He did not intend to profit this way, and did not want to depend on this to copy his way to literary fame. He only wished to borrow these classical discourses and inspire more of the mages’ rebellion. 

He believed that, in the nether world, the masters six feet under would not blame him for this.   






Kubei was just an ordinary pencil and button pusher working a day job, hating his boss and making horrible speeches when one day he fell asleep after pushing an all-nighter. When he woke up, he was bound to a chair, facing three creepy robed women and in a body way too young and way too weak to be his own. As he slowly came to, he realized that he was no longer in the same universe as he was before. The courtyard occupied an area of more than two mu and consisted of eight houses. It was rather a quiet and secluded place, complete with the few orange trees that surrounded it. The last time Yan Liqiang left the Imperial Capital, the publishing company hadn't owned this property. Hence, this was undoubtedly a newly-purchased courtyard by Fang Beidou during the past two years.
Several rooms on the ground floor of the courtyard's building were used as storerooms where the unsold newspapers were kept. It had been two years and 'The Great Han Times' circulation had exceeded twenty thousand copies, covering the entire Imperial Capital region. The scale of the publishing company had grown several times, and could truly be considered the best newspaper in the empire. Despite its popularity, it wasn't strange that there would be several unsold copies for every issue. The rooms that Yan Liqiang guarded in this courtyard were piled with these newspapers that were printed but never got sold.
In Yan Liqiang's previous life, these newspapers would ultimately be turned into paper pulp again. However, this would be too wasteful in the Great Han Empire. People in the Imperial Capital might not buy these newspapers as the content was already outdated, but in an era where the flow of information was relatively obstructed, many people would still buy them if they were delivered to provinces and prefectures that were further from the Imperial Capital. Even if it was half a year or a year outdated, the people there would still see these as rare and interesting items. Hence, the leftover newspapers stored in the houses of this courtyard that Yan Liqiang guarded would be bought by some traveling merchants and sold off somewhere far away. It went without saying that these outdated newspapers would be sold at much cheaper prices. This would bring profit to the publishing company, and it was also way better than turning them into trash or paper pulp.
During the daytime, the leftover newspapers would be collected and stored in the warehouse. Some merchants would come and buy stacks of them. These were all taken care of by designated people, so Yan Liqiang didn't have to worry about it. This meant Yan Liqiang was free during the daytime, and he only had to work when everyone went home at night. Apart from Fang Beidou who would occasionally drop by to check everything, no one else would come and check up on him. Hence, Yan Liqiang was still free and this position was most appropriate for him as it gave him the best cover in the Imperial Capital.
The former guard of this place was an old man. Since he was old in age, Fang Beidou found a reason to transfer him to a distribution center in the city to reduce his workload, leaving Yan Liqiang alone here.
It had been two days since Yan Liqiang had arrived. He trained alone in the courtyard at night and left the courtyard during the daytime to stroll around in the Imperial Capital. Eventually, the plans and tasks he had to do slowly took shape in his mind.
To someone who was caught in the vortex of power, taking every step in a place like the Imperial Capital was like treading on thin ice. The chances of getting murdered lurked around every corner. One misstep might lead to horrible death or clan extermination. The danger involved was beyond imagination. Yet, everything was peaceful to Wang Shagen, 'an ordinary person' from the lowest social class who guarded the warehouse and stood aloof from worldly affairs, only asking for adequate provisions.
The Emperor backed 'The Great Han Times'. No ordinary thugs or even bureaucrats in the Imperial Capital dared to find any trouble with the publishing company. Thus, Yan Liqiang would go unnoticed if he stayed here. Even if he died of old age here without doing anything, not many people would know that this courtyard was once guarded by someone called Wang Shagen.
Some might not even recall Wang Shagen's existence. Yet, the name kept revolving around Fang Beidou's mind. He was bothered but he had to keep it cool.
Finally one evening, four days since Yan Liqiang started guarding the warehouse, Fang Beidou 'took the opportunity' to check on this courtyard when he descended Mount Longqi.
Hearing the birds chirping on the tree outside the courtyard and the knocks coming from outside, Yan Liqiang who was training under the orange tree knew it was Fang Beidou. He straightened his clothes, then walked unhurriedly to the door. He pretended to peek through the crack of the door, before quickly opening it for Fang Beidou.
"Greetings from Shagen!" Yan Liqiang pretended to look fearful.
Fang Beidou sized up Yan Liqiang from head to toe, then nodded. "Ahem, have you gotten used to life here for the past two days, Shagen? I'm just here to look around…"
"Yes. This place is really a lot better than the Datong Inn I was staying at before I came here…" Yan Liqiang smiled earnestly as he welcomed Fang Beidou inside. Fang Beidou's coachman and his lavish four-wheeled carriage were left waiting outside. The coachman was none other than Xu Enda's brother, Little Wu. Compared to two years ago since Yan Liqiang last saw him, Little Wu seemed to have grown bigger and stronger. He was wearing armor and he carried a sword on his waist.
"Open up a few storerooms, I would like to take a look…"
"Right away…" Yan Liqiang led the way with a bunch of keys in his hand. He unlocked one of the rooms that was used as a store, then went in with Fang Beidou.
The room was filled with stacks and bundles of newspapers. It smelled like printing ink and the herbal packages of a mixture of patchouli and mugwort leaves were used as insect repellents. Instead of smelling unpleasant, the strange scent made the place feel more secluded and mysterious. Since this was a storeroom, the windows were sealed to prevent theft and fire. Only a window near the inner wall of the courtyard was left open. Hence, this could be considered a quiet place.
"Be more attentive even when you are sleeping at night. This place mustn't catch fire at all costs. Look out for insects too. The insect repellent herbal packages hanging on that pillar must be changed every two months…" Fang Beidou spoke absent-mindedly as he walked through the piles of newspapers. He was wondering about how to bring up the topic so that it didn't seem too out of the blue. After all, Yan Liqiang hadn't explained anything about this matter in his letter. He only instructed Fang Beidou to make some arrangements for this person. This made him even more curious.
"Yes, Shagen shall remember your orders, Manager Fang!"
Fang Beidou froze when he heard the voice beside him. He felt as though he was being placed under a binding spell. The voice wasn't Shagen's but Yan Liqiang's. It deadpanned, but Fang Beidou could hear the mockery and laziness in it.
Fang Beidou struggled to turn his head around to look at Shagen's face.
Shagen was still Shagen, only that the smile he had on his face right now kind of annoyed Fang Beidou. He would never forget that smile because the last time he'd seen it, he was running butt naked around the Imperial Capital while shouting 'I love you Cuihua'. To him, that day felt like a trip to hell.
"It's… It's you…!" Fang Beidou's throat went dry as he stammered while staring at Yan Liqiang blankly.
"Yes, it's me!" Yan Liqiang nodded. "Ahem, long time no see! It seems like you have been doing very well in the Imperial Capital, Manager Fang!"
Fang Beidou looked into Yan Liqiang's eyes as he was suddenly at a loss for words. Then, his palm came flying with lightning speed at Yan Liqiang's chest…
The smile remained on Yan Liqiang's face. When Fang Beidou's palm was about to strike his chest, Yan Liqiang gently lifted his hand and blocked his attack.
As soon as their palms came into contact, Fang Beidou felt the strength instantly dissolving in his hand.
He retracted his hand, still staring at Yan Liqiang as his voice trembled slightly. "Is it really you?"
"Of course!" Yan Liqiang nodded.
"Why are you here?"
"Of course it's to fulfill my original promise to you!" Yan Liqiang sighed then said gloomily, "If I still wasn't here yet, I'm not sure how many people in the Imperial Capital can escape when the Heavenly Tribulation strikes..."
Fang Beidou's countenance immediately changed as he felt a burst of energy. "What should I do?"
"You don't have to do anything. Just be prepared to distribute the newspapers by then!"
"You want to write something?"
Yan Liqiang shot a glare at him, then pointed to his own nose. "Do you think I'm young right now?"
Fang Beidou nodded.
"So I'd like to live a few more years. Do you think people will believe what I write?"
"How then?"
"Haha, I have my ways…"


The most precious things in the world are priceless. Ordinary men tend to turn a blind eye to this fact. Apart from the treasured air, sunlight, and familial love, there is still one more thing that’s extremely valuable. It’s right beside you and can be easily obtained. But... I wonder whether you can see it?

"OH, SHIT! Why it isn't working?!" Nadine exclaimed. Her voice lingered around the place. She was annoyed. She tried to enter to a woman's body but she was just rejected. Nadine was a lost soul who wanted to carry out her last mission. She believes that fulfilling her last mission could end her journey and go heaven.


"You can do it, Nadine! Go!" Lily encouraged. She was a lost soul too. Her age ranged to eight to eleven years old. She was looking for her parents. That was her unfinished business in order to crossover. She wanted to see their condition before she leave.


It's been ten years since Nadine became a lost soul. At first, she couldn't believe it. She just woke up one day she was already a lost soul. She wandered for several weeks until she met Lily. She was the one who explained to her everything. She also named her Nadine because she couldn't remember even her name. The name was inspired from Lily's favorite actress Nadine Lustre who they always seen on the billboard.


She cried in frustration after she heard everything. From there, she realized why she's not capable of feeling hunger, sick, and thirst. Even when she wandered around, it was okay. It was all because she didn't really have the ability to feel that way since she was dead.


According to Lily, everyone who dies lost their memory. It was all because of the sudden disconnection of the soul to the physical body. However, memories will come back gradually. Lily heard and learned that information from the old ghost she met who already crossed over. She shared that information to Nadine.


In Lily's case, her memories came back two years ago. She remembered she died in a fire and her family survive five years ago. For now, she wants to see her family first to find out their situation before she goes in heaven.


Nadine on the other hand, remembered her dream of becoming a writer. Her memories were triggered the moment she and Lily passed on Mega Publishing. A sudden strange feeling embraced her. It was weird, they decided to wander around and looked for an answer. In the basement, they saw the printing machines to make Tagalog romance pocketbooks. Nadine was mesmerized and amazed. Her beats fast. She was excited. She suddenly felt the intense longing to have her own published books.


Since then Nadine has never left Mega. Lily leaves to find the parents from time to time but returns there to accompany her. Lily became attached to her. Nadine did the same. Nadine is deeply grateful to Lily. Because of her, she was able to comprehend everything about being a ghost.


This past few weeks, Nadine couldn't help but wandered in and out of Mega. She really wants to write her own story. She thought of a plot and of course, she was the heroine of her own story. At least in the book she has her own romance story. Ah, she just kept getting excited about the thought.


"Right! I must endure this! If I can't get into the human body, how can I write a novel, right? So I have to endure this until I succeed." she said.


"Yes! Go for it! Just look for a body you can use.  How can you send a manuscript? They can't recognize you. You can't write on that condition, right?" Lily said.


Nadine nodded. "You are correct. All right. I 'm going to find someone whom I can possess." She was determined.


Nadine and Lily looked around. There a lot of people passing by. Man, woman, old and young, they looked for someone who could help them until they saw an old strange woman walking towards them. She looks in a hurry. Her hair was messy. She seemed not taking good care of herself. She was dirty. She was wearing a black is a wide-brimmed robe; she has a lot of bead necklace. Her eyes were surrounded by dark circles. She was so pale. Nadine's heart pounded the moment their gazes lock. The woman saw her!


"Exorcist! Run, Nadine!" Lily screamed.


"What?!" she replied shockingly. That was the first time they were in trouble, she didn't know what to do. She couldn't even react!


And Lily was prompt. She grabbed her hand and pulled her away. They were not normal people, they were able to penetrate the wall and hide inside Mega Publishing.


"W-Who's that?" Asked Nadine. She was worried.


"An exorcist. She has the ability to exorcise us. We need to be careful. We need to stay away from her. When she catch us, she will send us to heaven immediately even before we have finished our mission. For them, we should not be here anymore." she sadly explained.


"I-Is that so? How did she found out that we were here?" she asked anxiously.


Lily shrug. "Maybe, she was just roaming around, she had the chance to see us. There are exorcists like her. They wander and hunt like us. It was like a mission. Aside from them, psychics can also see us."


Nadine nodded. "We can't move on freely. She knows we are here. I'm just thinking, there's a possibility she will stay outside and wait for us."


"Oh my! You're right!" Lily exclaimed nervously.


Nadine clenched her fist. Her eyes narrowed as she imagined everything. "I have to find someone I can possess."


"And I have to find my parents, too. After that, even if she exorcises me, I'm okay with it." Lily cried.


They hugged each other. Nadine felt sorry for themselves. They were just a poor souls, someone was too eager to eliminate them. She wanted to scream in frustration. They are not doing anything wrong. They don't deserve that!


Nadine sighed and thought again how the mission could be accomplished.

Nadine was a lost soul trying to finish her last mission: to have a published book. The only thing she knows to make it possible? She needed to possess someone so she can write a story.

In the end, Nadine found a perfect body. She used Ereen Punzalan. But the moment she totally possessed her, Nadine found out it wasn’t easy. She needed to live like Ereen in order not to be caught by an exorcist. She started to live a normal life and write her dream story.

And she met Grey Truman, Ereen’s hot and gorgeous boss. Nadine felt the intense spark between them. It was strong and that scares her.

She made a promise to herself. She would stay away from the man. She did everything not to get close to him but in the end, Grey caught her off guard.

And her memories came back. She remembered everything and it broke her heart. Grey has a big part of her past life and she wished, she didn’t recall it at all…
