Whoever is caught on that will be turned into stones. Well. Adventurers have no way of countering it. But it is mostly taken care of by the Theocracy whenever one is nearby and the nations asked for help."

"Then. How are they defeating it? The Theocracy."

"The priests are capable of reverting the petrifying using their miracles. But since priests can't become adventurers. It's pretty much impossible. But they said it's easy to kill. The only thing that makes it a problem is because of its gaze."

"I see. Then I will become a ten-star adventurer."

"Please wait! Don't do that master! I don't want to lose you yet! I didn't even become that strong yet. Please don't. It's also for your safety."

"Ahh... All tests are done individually. But if you really wanted it. Three of you could do it as a team since a Giant Basilisk is a kind of impossible to defeat. So if you really insist. Then fine. There is a Giant basilisk currently located in the east forest of the kingdom. Bring us proper evidence that you killed it. If you do so. Then three of you will become ten-star adventurers."

"So what do we do?" I asked Sungah who seems to be intently looking in this very dusty book she brought us.

"What's that? Also are you sure we are going to do this spell or whatever here? Can't we just be friends with them and talk and settle it out you know? Like decent human beings!" Greg suggested while Sungah and I both ignore him.

"Nobody wants peace." Sungah giggled.

"Also DO YOU NOT REMEMBER HOW LOUIE AND ISABEL TREATED ME. Louie ghosted me, played with my feelings like we were playing in some carousel. No matter how I try to reach for him we spun around, me being unable to reach him and Isabel being the little bitch she is tried to humiliate me and tried to do things to me to embarrass me so of course, they deserve this." I said sternly.

"Also look at them... smiling and having fun as if nothing happened while I'm here still can't get over it! It's like they killed me and broke my spirit and thought nothing of it. Smiling because it's fine to step on little poor old me. Well not any longer... I am sick and tired of being stepped on." I add to my argument.

"You never really know what their lives are like? Maybe they are just faking a smile because they've been doing it for a while. They got used to it?" Greg suggested.

"You aren't like this Grace. Stop this, please. Jus-" I interrupt him by shouting. Huh? Siphoning flower what's that... Most a druid magic... You see from what I remember Luther is a Druid which focuses primarily on nature magic while Sungah is more of a witch.. relying on the moon for her power.

"A siphoning flower is a flower that collects the blood of a person. Just get Louie to get pricked by this flower. Make sure to not prick yourself with this... It can only take one's blood sample. HEY LUTHER USE YOUR MAGIC AND SUMMON A SIPHONING FLOWER." She nudged Luther.

"But that's a witchery alchemy spell... I don't know anything about that..." Luther sighed.

"FIND A WAY THEN! Please..." Sungah blew a kiss in the air causing a pink heart to appear and fly..

Luther dodged the heart. Keeping a straight face. "Don't use charm on me you femme fatale. Also sure... I'll find a way to get a siphoning flower." Luther bowed and walked out.

"Also... I need to cast this spell at midnight... the moon is strongest at 12 pm... also you guys must be in the same area for this spell to take effect. So you really need to cling to Louie a lot tonight..." Sungah said as she made chalk appear in her hands.

"It should just be a simple circle magic spell... Luther will find a way to get the siphoning flower but in the meantime. Stick close with Louie for a bit and try to get his attention got it?" Sungah asked me as she started to walk outside... "Okay walking in heels is hard..." She sighed as she continued to walk out..

I guess I'm just gonna have to stick close to that dick again... like in high school...

"Hello! Everyone! The program is starting! First, before the program starts! We will have our buffet first since all of you will get hungry when we do our raffle! So please as I call your tables... Please come to the buffet area and take your food!" The MC said calling the numbers..

I noticed Greg turning his back from my line of vision. "Hey?" I tried to console him. "Yes?" He said timidly.

her lips is somewhat similar to wood, I already took into account that using hinges and nonmoving materials for it would make her too much of a robotic so I grew fallen wood in advance. Fallen wood can move human-like since it's neither flora nor Fauna, it's its own being which needs to be researched further. the only thing I know about Fallen wood is that it's like a human but not, it's neither a plant since it doesn't photosynthesis like any plants normally.

besides the information, her mouth can move like a human, her face is tough and rough like wood is but thanks to the Fallen wood I had, she seems more of a human than a puppet, although, I didn't have that of and abundance of it, her limbs and joints are different segments, I can only afford to properly fix her face...

Kirin in this day has a lazy life, everyone has trusted him and currently no quarrels with each other along with his creation

With a new day arose, I officially have been in this world for about 3 days. Due to the promise that I made with Claire. I'm preparing myself with another cold bath to start off my day.  

Quite a shame that the clothes that sir Banner gave me, immediately got dirtied. Now I'm stuck with these old ones.  

With the clothes that sir Banner gave me, still on the wash. I've decided to wear my old one for now. Thinking more about it. I should probably buy a new one for myself, in case such situations occurred for the 2nd time.  

With my preparations done, I came looking for Claire to see if she's ready.  

"You done now Claire?"  

"Almost! Just give me a second"

With her preparations also completed. Claire came out to the bedroom, wearing a neat looking dress. The dress of her is covered with a jacket, which aesthetically looks pleasing to me. And despite looking old, I can thoroughly see that the dress was handled with care throughout its lifetime.  

"You look nice in that dress"

Complementing Claire's choice of clothes, I can somewhat see her face turning slightly red.  

I guess she's very shy when it comes to these things.  

"So, you're ready now?"  

"Yes... but do we seriously have to waste money to buy me some clothes. I'm perfectly fine with what I have now"  

"Well we can't really do much about our money if we don't spend it. Besides were not just going to buy some clothes, I'm also planning on buying some Mushboar steak for lunch"  

"Mush-b-boar s-steak..."  

Hearing my words, I can already the drool coming out of Claire's mouth. I guess she really loves that steak, if she's already drooling just by the mention of it.  

"F-fine, I'll join you in this date. I guess big bro is just so lonely, that he has to tempt me with Mushboar steak"

"I want two Mushboar steak, by the way. So we better hurry, big bro"

And with our preparations over, we headed off to the elevator to reach the 2nd floor. Holding Claire's hand as the elevator gears began moving, we silently waited for the elevator to bring us to our destination.

Arriving at the warehouse. I still see Grace, sitting in her usual seat looking pretty bored. Unlike the first time of seeing her, it seems that she isn't dozing off, this time.

"Just as promised, I came here to buy some clothes"

Hearing what Grace just said. Claire can't help but be confused. I guess I'm somewhat lucky for bringing her here.

"I've already said so before, I have the things you needed. Just tell me what you want and I'll bring it" 

"That's good. Now then, what clothes would like, Claire?"

Having troubles with Claire's purchase. Grace tried calling, one of stationary guards in the warehouse. It seems that she's letting Claire inside.

"Not really. Normally I'll just bring the items that a customer would want to purchase. But considering that she's a kid, I'll allow her inside as an exception. Plus... bringing a lot of items can be a bit tiring" 

I see... she's just being lazy

Entering a new place, by herself. It seems that Claire is a bit scared. Being new to said situation, Claire can't help but take a glance at where I was. 

"Go take a look at what you want to buy. I'll just wait for you here"

Guided with the guard that Grace called. Claire slowly enter the inside of the warehouse. And with Claire gone, I'm now alone with Grace who seem to be getting bored.

"And I assume, you're one of those people?"

"I've just discovered that I'm psionic user yesterday and I want to conform something with you?"

"Basically, psionic has 3 categories which all specialize in different fields. For example, an Enhancement with its enhancing ability can specializes in both long and short range when it comes to combat. An Elemental on the other hand, lacks the protective measures that an Enhancement can do. That's why most users of said category tend to specialize in long range. And lastly Thought Control, with its unique way of implementation can only specialize in short range. But depending on the situation that the user is in, he/she can go long range " 

"I see, each category has its ups and down" 

"In a way. So, if you want to know what weapon suites you more. I'll need to know what category you're on" 

Hearing what Grace just said. I was quickly reminded that I spent a majority of my points on all three categories. From all the information that I've gathered so far, I've never heard of a psionic user that is able to use all three categories. So with this new development in hand, I'm now stuck in a situation of where revealing my categories can be either grow suspicion on me or not. 

"Ahhh... I-I'm still developing it. So I don't know what category I belong yet" 

"I see, Good luck on that then" 

While thinking about the new predicament that I've stumble into. Claire finally came out, in the warehouse. Looking more closely at her. I can see that the clothes that she's wearing is completely different from before. The sense of style is still the same, with her new clothes being a dress and a jacket. But the clothes that she is wearing, looks completely brand new unlike her previous one and the color is also different. The dress she is wearing is colored white, while her jacket looks darkish purple. 

While busy looking at her clothes, I was caught off-guard when a new text suddenly pops up in my view.

Looking at it, I can see that it looks somewhat similar to an item description that I have seen in many games. But instead of being filled with text about the item. I was instead, greeted with a description that says unknown. 

Is this the Identification Feat that I've unlocked yesterday. If so, how the hell did I activate this. 

But before I can even comprehend what just happened. I was brought back to reality by Claire. 

"Umm.. What do you think, big bro?" 

"Huh?.. A-aahh.. r-right.. I-I think you look cute in that. Umm.. great choice of clothing, if I say so myself" 

"T-thanks..." 

Hearing my panicked attempt at complementing her. Claire's face suddenly looked a bit red. I guess she's not that good at complements, judging by her reaction. 

"Now then... How much does her clothes cost?" 

"Her clothes cost about 4 silver monetas in total. With that said, are you sure this is all you want to buy?" 

"Oh right! I almost forgot. Are there still any of the same type of clothes, that you brought yesterday? I kind of want to buy another one" 

"Sorry, but we're out of stock with that brand of clothing. The latest earthquake damage cut off our supply chain. So for now, we're just waiting for the latest things to arrive. But I've heard that they'll be finished with the repairs by tomorrow so I can probably deliver one to you by 2 or 3 days" 

"That's fine, I can wait. So how much would it cost to deliver one to me" 

"Well... along with her dress, your order will total to 12 silver monetas" 

"One last thing, also" 

Knowing that Claire will grew suspicious of me, if she hears what I'm about to say out loud. I went a bit closer to Grace and whisper another order of mine, into her ears. 

"Could you please add another 5 magazines with that. I'm sure you already know what type I'm looking for. And could you please not mention any of this to her. I'm screwed if she finds out" 

In a quick chuckle, Grace quietly says.

Confused of not knowing what Bruce and Grace are talking about. Claire grew a bit suspicious about their relationship. Not wanting any of this to continue, Claire quickly approached Bruce and grab him by her hand.

"Almost, I still have to pay her for the things we ordered" 

"Ok. But hurry up will you, big bro. I'm want to eat Mushboar steak" 

"Fine-fine, just let me pay her and we'll go on our way" 

Letting go of her brother's hand. Claire carefully watch him as he pays Grace. Seeing their secret interaction earlier, she can't help but feel a bit envious inside. 

Looking at her more closely, I can somewhat admit that she looks kind of beautiful. That pale skin of hers and that rack... I guess it would make sense that big bro would fall for her. Wait a minute.... What am I saying! I promised big bro that we'll lived together and be a normal family in the future. So, I can't have any witch seducing him now. Keep it together Claire. 

Keeping her cool. And waiting for her brother to finished. Claire intensely glared at the women whom she declared as a mortal enemy. 

Seeing her glares and finding it cute. Grace casually smiles at Claire and wished them good luck. 

With their shopping now over. Claire and Bruce made their way back to the elevator. Knowing what's to come Claire can't help but be excited. 

"Let's go, big bro" 

"You're always this excited when it comes to steak, do you?" 

"Who doesn't get excited when it comes to Mushboar steak"

With the facility elevator finally arriving, they casually hop on into the thing, to reach the floor where the cafeteria is located. While waiting to arrive at their destination, Claire can't help but take a quick glimpsed at her brother. 

Seeing big bro as of lately, I get the feeling that his a bit down. I guess big bro is still adjusting to this place... Is there any way that I can help him... 

While busy thinking of things, that can help Bruce. The elevator that they were riding, quickly reached their destination. Surprised at sudden turn of events. Claire was forced to leave the things that she thought, for now. And leave the elevator along with Bruce. 

Walking through the facility halls to the cafeteria. Claire can't hold her concerns any longer. And decided to speak out about it. 

"U-umm... Big Bro, is there anything wrong?" 

"Huh? What do you mean?" 

"Well... as of lately, I can't help but feel that you're a bit down. So I'm wondering if you're facing any trouble" 

"I see... You're quite observant. But you don't have to worry about anything. Your big brother has it under control" 

"But-" 

"Claire, I promised you that I'm perfectly fine. So you don't have to worry about me at all. If anything, you should worry about yourself" 

'I-I'm perfectly fine. You're the one looking depressed in here and making me worried" 

"S-sorry... I guess I'm just stressed out from all the things I'm experiencing lately" 

"No need to apologize. I'm just worried that's all... I-I.. Is there any way that I can at least help you" 

"Hahahaha, how nice of you. But you looking cute is already helping me a lot" 

Hearing Bruce say said words. Claire's face became slightly red. Not expecting her brother to say such words to her, Claire can't help but be flustered.

Hearing Bruce's words again. Claire's face became even more red. 

What the hell is big bro saying!!! Me being cute and it helping him... T-that's s-so-so.... A-aaahhhh.. 

With her face glowing red and her heart beating fast. Claire can no longer think straight. With the situation she's in, being very embarrassing for her. She tried slapping Bruce in the face and saying her usual words.  

"Big bro, you're such a dumbass!!!" 

Running away as she slapped him. Bruce was left dumbfounded at what just happened. 

"W-what did I do wron-. Wait!! Claire, where are you going!!" 

"I don't want to see big bro's face anymore!" 

"What about the steak!!" 

Their little chase went for about a few minutes, before settling down. After which they resumed their promised lunch. Due to Bruce, pissing off Claire in their conversation earlier. Which he still doesn't know why it occurred. Bruce was forced to order 3 Mushboar steak for Claire. Having 3 steaks for a kid seems overboard for Bruce, but seeing how Claire gobble all three steaks down like it was nothing. Bruce, assumes that she'll probably be fine.

I just write about shit that pisses me off in anime,movies,and novels. Basically guy dies gets isekai'd meets god god sick of Weebs and gamers and such so fuck it let the wierdos have what they want. Basically what if magic and super martial arts and such came to our world.

When Kendra and Isaa were about to leave they saw the two women chatting at the front gates. She saw them today selling eggs. She had no more as they ate all the eggs they had from the quails.
''May I ask do you have some eggs left?'' she asked while smilingly looking at the two women.
''I have about two dozen left. I will sell it to you cheaper as I would like to have empty casket on my way back home. I will give you all the eggs for 15 coins.'' said the lady. She usually sold them 1 coin per egg but how can she take advantage of these children and 15 coins is better than returning back home with eggs.
Kendra happily accepted the eggs and slowly put most of them into her basket and she put few as well in Isaa's. They greeted them politely and wanted to go home. But then Kendra remembered that she wanted to take a few smaller pots for the jam. She went to Goluk first.
''Good morning elder Goluk. We came to see do you have a few small pots for us. We need them.'' she said while waving at his wife that was as usual at fire watching the burning process. Goluk nodded.
''I don't have many. Now I have only two.''He said while making an again a big pot.
''Two is fine. We have anyway no place to put and we need to wear them in hands. Could we place an order. Make ten of these pots for us for now. We will probably need more with the time. But this time make an opening bit bigger. Is that possible?'' she asked while using the branch to make a picture of pot she needed.
''With wide opening its easy to make. Ten pots will be 50 coins. Is it urgent? I have big fat order now and I would like to finish it now.'' he said while looking at Kendra pleadingly.
''No problem. We anyway won't be coming here for a few days. On the third market day from today, we will come. If you made a few at the time is fine. You don't have to make them all at once.'' she said while thinking that she can't hold in her basket anyway to many. She gave him the money and they went home. Each of them held one pot as they carefully walked over the stones back home.
As soon they got back home she made fire, cut vegetables and put them to boil. Then she ran to the stream to wash up. They were tired and hungry. Kendra planned to go see if there are some fishes traps tonight and after resting a bit they will gather as many strawberries as they could.
They came back refreshed and she saw that vegetables are cooked so she put some salt, seasonings, and flour in it to make porridge. It was the fastest and filling. She didn't make much as she planned to have it only one more time for dinner. They have no time today for cooking. They ate with relish.
She took rest of carrots and grated them. She put it again on the flat basket and put on the sun. She checked those from before and saw that they are dry. It was good, as they will go to the sea the next day. She looked at the dried turnip and put each of them in old cloth. She needs to cook some eggs for better preservation. She put most of it for boil and rest she made fast egg pancakes. She can take them tomorrow and have some tonight with a jam.
Isaa was taking care of rabbits. She put some water and greens to eat and Kendra gave her shaved skin from the carrots as their treats. The eggs were done really fast. Let them gradually cool down taking other pot and frying the pancakes. She made most simple but in last few were fine cut greens from the young onion. They smelled just fine with the pancakes.
When Isaa smelled the new ones she couldn't wait to taste it. They smelled delicious. Even she had just filling porridge but she can taste a bit right? Kendra just told her to wait till they are a bit colder. She put the ones with onion on another plate. She was anyway done.
Kendra washed the pots and bowls and when she came back she could see Isaa staring at the pancakes like she never had anything else to eat. Is she hungry?Again?She is now growing so it's fine to eat more. But Kendra had to admit, for such small child to have such strong will it is rare. She didn't even try to nibble on the food as most children would.
"Isaa. Just take and eat." Kendra laughed while looking at her cute expression.
"I'm waiting for a brother so we eat together," she said while concentrating on pancakes.
" Then let's eat a bit. Do you want to rest or wanna go for the strawberries? "
"Strawberries. We can find shade and gather in shade."  said while taking the small basket and giving the bigger one to Kendra.
" I really have a smart sister. We will gather today until the baskets are full and make lots of jam. When we come back from seaside we will cook a lot of jam. We can sell most of it and some we can keep for us." she looked at the vegetables for drying she taught she needs more for winter. 
Even if they have a little garden, she will buy more for drying. Then she looked at the grapes.
"Isaa. When you eat grapes take out seeds. We might need it later." she took one to peel the skin, opened the grape and got the seeds out. The rest she ate with relish. Mmmm. So sweet. She taught for a moment to make wine but then she would need a mass of grapes and need to stay here forever. No. She just needs to earn money the easiest way.
The land she can sell. The city house as well. But obligations like planting for life. She doesn't plan to. 
She'll just buy and dry and wait. Till she doesn't earn enough for travel. She needs to find the prices of ship travel.
Wait, didn't the child say that she can breathe under the water? Tomorrow she will try it out. What is Isaa's ability? But what about that. Even if she can be under the water, but how long.
She saw even when bathing that her skin would wrinkle after a while. That means she can swim underwater but not too long.
They finished the grapes and walked to the meadow. Strawberries were not everywhere. So they usually would use one spot and take the ones from that spot. They really found lots of them under the tree.
Kendra let Isaa look around to see how many spots she can find. She started to gather strawberries. Isaa runs here and there. Then she came back.
"Brother there aren't many left. But most of them still have flowers."  Kendra nodded.
"It is good like this. We will have new when we come back." she already knew that there were not that many lefts.
The rest of the afternoon they gathered the strawberries. But as soon the baskets were full they went back home. Kendra made enough for two more pots and some were left over. She planned to take that with her.
In the late afternoon, they went into the forest and found one rabbit. Kendra planned to make some dried meat of it. Now she will keep most of the rabbit meat. And she will get few more alive rabbits for winter. They can be in the cage.
Then they went to the fish traps. They found lots of them. She put the fishes into the hole and hid the traps in bushes. She will go to the city in the early morning and take rabbits to the house. Then she will go to the sea. Even if it's not far away she will look for a hidden place.
What they plan to do is only for them. The salt they will make, can't be sold anyway. There are laws against it. Probably. She'll ask.
They went back home she prepared rabbit with leftover salt for drying. The fur she left to dry out as well.
She prepared some dried vegetables in a bag. Some salt and dried seasonings. Then she took the small aluminum pot and put on the side of the bigger basket. Inside the basket, she put the parts of big pot for salt. They were set.
In the morning they put a blanket in the casket and moved to the city before dawn. On the gate, she waited till the gates opened at the dawn.
They went to their home slowly because they had time. As they came closer they saw that sunshine was hitting the house. The pair of people were already awake and waiting for them.
"Good morning. We won't stay long as we plan to go for a long trip," she said in advance. Usually, older people like to chat for a long time. She didn't feel like talking too much today.
"It is fine to go when is colder in the morning. We prepared some fruits and vegetables for you. I asked about fishes and got an answer that if it's possible we should do it. If it's successful you might get something out of it." said older man while happily smiling for these children. It's good to have some positive achievement who knows what is good for.
The children let the rabbits with the elderly pair and left. On their way out they stopped by the city office. The officer they knew was there.
''Good morning. Sir, you said if there are any problems I should ask you. But I do not know your name.''Said Kendra while thinking about this problem already for a while.
''I am officer Luar. I forgot to mention and later on, I forgot totally.Sorry.But you can call for me. I heard that you got permission to put fishes inside. Will you be able to find?''
''That is the reason why I won't be coming for a while back. I am going to search for them and will need to find a way how to transport them, without anyone noticing.'' she sighed. She knew he will report that problem and they will find a way.
''I will think of something. Let me know if you find,'' he said while looking at the child with interest. This child will be someone in the future. The Lord of the city is interested already in this child. Yesterday they called him to the castle and the Lord himself asked about the child. He told him to protect the child as much as he could. It is good this way. They need protection.
Kendra didn't know that things are getting a bit complicated behind her back. If she knew she would give up everything and run away. She really didn't want to be involved with those in the upper class. Ever.
Now she just wanted to go and have some fun. After they left the city, they turned to the sea. Kendra planned to follow the coastal line for a while and find a spot far away from the city.
After all, she wants some clean salt. Here is where the river enters the sea. The water must be polluted. As she went that way she had to pass blacksmiths. She hoped that this time she won't have any incidents again. But they just got friendly nods from them. She smiled in relief.
When they passed the blacksmiths without any problem they went to the end and saw the young man tinkering with something.
''Good morning. We came to say hello to you. We plan to go on another side of that peninsula.'' she said while looking at the thing he was working on.
''Wait you go that way? There is carriage going that way soon. Go through the bushes up and there will be carriage going that way. Just pay him one coin for each to sit on the back so you can just hop off when you arrive. It's faster.'' he told them with a smile.''There is a carriage that goes every morning through the villages and comes back in the evening. If you want they can take you back. Just stop them. If they are not full they will take you back. Usually, it is full but you two are tiny. You can sit on the back of  it.''
''I didn't know that. Thank you for telling us,'' said Kendra with a smile. She will definitely give him later something to do and some of the jam as he liked it. She waved and took Isaa's hand to run. It is better than walking and wasting time.
It was not far. They just passed first bushes and they could see up there the carriage. They run there as they saw a bunch of people getting on.
''Sir we want to go to the peninsula over there,'' then Kendra pointed at the far away half-island.''We can sit behind. Just slow down near that place so we can hop off.''
''Go sit behind and hold tight. I will stop when we get close there. You don't have to hop off. If you break something how can I live after that.'' he said while joking.
''How much is it?''Asked Kendra taking her little bag made of old cloth. The driver felt sad looking at the ragged bag.
''I don't need anything. If you have something to carry later when you come back, then I will let you pay. Is that fine with you?''He said while people in carriage didn't mind. They didn't take their seats and were just sitting behind where is so little space that their feet were dangling off the ground.
He tried not to drive to fast. He didn't want the children to fall off. They arrived at the half-island anyway really fast. He stopped the carriage for just a short time and as they went off, he drove off while waving at the children.
?Bus driver? It seemed that they have such thing regulated because there are always people that want to go somewhere in between these two points. After all no gas costs. And it seems he let the horses rest in time between. Not a bad person. Isaa waved back with both hands and they set into a new adventure...

The strange thing about the Residence, which used to be Ilustrados Hotel, is that even when it only has a single occupant, the entire establishment remains a fully functional boutique hotel. The restaurants may be empty, no one's swimming in the rooftop infinity pool, nobody's sitting at the bar—and yet, every staff behaves as if business is in full swing.

You'll have to credit Gabriel Tan for all this madness, Claire thinks as they walk to the elevator. Look at how wasteful everything is. Approach the concierge or walk into any of the Residence's four fine dining restaurants, and you'll be treated like you're special, that the entire kitchen staff, even the chef, rose from the beds that morning to serve you. 

It's hard to wrap one's mind around that. And for someone like Claire who had never previously been to any hotel, more so a luxurious one, everything seems absurd. Delightful, yes. Wonderful, even. But absurd, nevertheless. 

The lift opens and Gabriel lets her enter first. Once inside, Claire's senses become so acute she could feel the electricity in the air. They stand side by side, in their bathrobes, and the looseness of the fabric and how it leisurely caresses her skin as she slightly moves has an effect on her: as though she can feel his nakedness without being actually naked. 

They both fix their eyes on the floor numbers, descending. And part of her wishes this lasts a million years, this descent. She wishes time stops, somehow—she won't mind spending eternity inside this lift with him.

"What?" Gabriel says, looking at her.

"What do you mean 'what'?"

"I thought you were saying something about 'stopping time.'"

Holy shit. Did she just say her thoughts out loud—again?

It's an old problem, and it tends to surface during times of emotional distress or excitement. When she was a child, Claire would unknowingly hum her favorite Spice Girls song out loud during class lectures, realizing it only when the teacher would directly address her, to the laughter of the entire classroom. She was an ugly duckling then—oh how things have changed. If only her teachers, her classmates could see her now. They won't believe a thing of what has been happening with her. They won't believe she's in an elevator with one of the world's most eligible bachelors.

"Oh, I was just mumbling something."

"Mumbling what?"

Cornered, Claire grins sheepishly. "Forget it. It's just a silly thing." She sighs.

Gabriel says nothing. 

The lift is supposedly a high-speed one, yet, for some reason, it seems to be descending in ultra-slow motion. At one point, as they stand there side by side, Claire's hand brushes oh-so-gently against Gabriel's hand. It's as if all her senses evacuated other parts of her body to gather at that same spot of skin that meets Gabriel's hand—and internally, she struggles—her reflex is to avoid the man's hand, just in case he starts thinking she's doing this intentionally. Yet half of her tells her to just let it go, it's all normal, this is a small space, after all, so this physical closeness is inevitable. So she stands there, her heart fluttering at the sensation, just letting things happen. 

Then something unexpected happens. The lift shakes, like an airplane going through turbulence, and immediately, Gabriel grasps her hand and squeezes it. "Don't worry," he mutters. "This is an old building. It has its peculiarities."

"Oh," is her only response.

And weirdly, Gabriel doesn't let go of her hand. He's still holding her. As if afraid to let her go.

Claire closes her eyes. She knows she's blushing, and she hopes he doesn't notice it. 

"Are you alright?" he says.

"Why?"

"Your face is all red!"

So there it goes—what she feels is obvious to the naked eye. Claire couldn't' really hide anything to people, even her innermost feelings.

"I'm fine, Gabriel."

"No, no, no. You're red in the face. Are you having a panic attack? Or an allergic reaction?"

Jesus Henry Christ, the emotional reactions of this man! "I'm fine, Gabriel. I just feel… I just feel…" I just feel strangely attracted to you, is what she wants to say, but the words never leave her lips.

"I know what a panic attack looks like," he insists. "And you seem trembling. Jesus, Claire, I think you're having an allergic reaction of some kind!"

"I am fine, Gabriel!"

"No, you're not," Gabriel says, "This is an emergency." And as if on cue, the elevator doors open to the second floor, where the only establishment is the luxury spa. He grabs her in his arms, like a knight saving a damsel in distress. "Don't worry, you'll be fine! The spa has a resident medical personnel, too. Just relax."

Then he half-runs, half-walks the entire length of the long hallway, carrying her in his arms as though he's holding precious cargo.

And while all this is happening, Claire is thinking: This is insane…but thrilling in a weird way. Why do I feel so good in his arms? Why am I having this strange sensation? This sense of intimacy, this closeness that I've never felt with anyone before, not even with my so-called boyfriends?

She has given up struggling—no point in telling this man that she's fine. That she's merely blushing. This is Gabriel Tan being crazy again, and Claire thinks she should just let the course run.

As they arrive at the reception lobby of the luxury spa, manned by a lone receptionist who looks strikingly pretty by any standards, Gabriel is yelling, "I need assistance. Get me the doctor!"

The receptionist immediately disappears into a backroom. 

Gabriel gently places Claire on a sofa. "How are you feeling?"

I told you I'm super fine, is what Claire almost says. But what comes out of her lips is, "I feel like I'm out of breath."

"Jesus," he mutters. "Hold on." 

Gabriel looks around. There's still no sight of the receptionist or the doctor, who just last night checked on Claire.

And secretly, Claire is giggling inwardly. Look at how this man worries. She feels so special, as though Gabriel's world would implode if something serious actually happens with her. And for some reason, some naughty streak, Claire even ups the ante. Even when she really feels fine, she says, "I can't breathe, Gabriel."

"Jesus, Claire," he says. "Wait." He looks around one last time. And when there's still no sight of the doctor, he gazes at Claire. 

For a split-second, Claire seems to recognize a gleam of longing in Gabriel's eyes—before he swoops down to give her a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

But there's only one other strange thing: Claire's tongue is awkwardly in the way as he tries to "resuscitate" her. 

And perhaps, whether intentional or not, Gabriel's efforts in trying to "resuscitate" poor Claire, with that tongue in the way, and the heady feminine scent of this woman, and the memory of how she looked breathtakingly lovely and naked in the bedroom playing in an endless loop in Gabriel's head, the "mouth-to-mouth resuscitation" very slowly, like the luscious melting of glaciers, transforms into a deep, gentle, intimate kiss.
