With his good companions, Faithful and Hopeful, he vanquishes many enemies before arriving at the Celestial City with the line that still reverberates through the English literary tradition: "So he passed over, and all the trumpets sounded for him on the other side."

In Hollywood terms, the novel has a perfect "arc". It also contains a cast of unforgettable characters, from Mr Worldly Wiseman to Lord Hategood, Mr Stand-fast and Mr Valiant-for-Truth.
More profoundly, as an allegory of state repression, it has been described by the historian EP Thompson as one of the "foundation texts of the English working-class movement". Part of its uniquely English quality is a robust and engaging sense of humour that has cemented its appeal to generations of readers.

The Pilgrim's Progress is the ultimate English classic, a book that has been continuously in print, from its first publication to the present day, in an extraordinary number of editions. There's no book in English, apart from the Bible, to equal Bunyan's masterpiece for the range of its readership, or its influence on writers as diverse as William Thackeray, Charlotte Bronte, Mark Twain, CS Lewis, John Steinbeck and even Enid Blyton.

Huckleberry Finn speaks for many readers when, recalling his Mississippi education, he says: "There was some books too... One was 'Pilgrim's Progress', about a man that left his family it didn't say why. I read considerable in it now and then. The statements was interesting, but tough."

The story of a man in search of the truth is the plot of many kinds of fiction, fromPortnoy's Complaint to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Like many of the writers in the list that follows, Bunyan had a wonderful ear for the rhythms of colloquial speech and his allegorical characters come to life in dialogue that never fails to advance the narrative. Story is one thing. The simple clarity and beauty of Bunyan's prose is something else. Braided together, style and content unite to make a timeless English classic.

Just as there is 'Soft Magic' in Fantasy that is portrayed through magibabble, there can be 'Soft Science' in a Sci-Fi stories through technobabble that makes 'some sense', but not entirely correct.

We are frickin' writers, not scientists. You don't have to be anatomically correct all the time, all you need to do is show that you know enough of your stuff to write a decent story. In fact, the excuse of it being an alternate world can be used if you're going to bend the limits of physics and say that fire doesn't need air to exist in this parallel dimension.

I see a lot of writers being put into a state of confusion due to not understanding the line between fantasy and Sci-Fi. They seem like they are trying to fit the Star Trek mould too often.

Science can just as well do the same things as plot devices in fantasy stories. Once you add 'realism' to a fantasy, it becomes progressively better sometimes compared to a completely fantasied story where 'logic' doesn't hold within it.

Those who write Sci-Fi usually envision a future they can imagine where magic-like Rocket Boots and other stuff exist. However, a writer must not get bogged down by small details and MUST think of an overarching story where these details matter.

It is the same with Fantasy. Even if you write about someone breaking the mould as a wizard or something, you have to attach your world to a narrative rather than doing it the other way 'round.

No one wants to hear about how awesome your boat propellers are before hearing your story's narrative. They would rather you cut down and make it relevant when it is actually relevant.

Adding some 'Hard Science' to your story is only when the scenes later on have any use for them. It bores a person to death no matter how extensive your technobabble is unless you make it interesting. Try using facts as plot elements.

For example: Even the simple fact that people cannot breath in space and instantly die when they come in contact with the 'void' of space could be used to add a layer of tension when a spaceship is damaged. Similar to how dangerous 'hard magic' is used in Epic Fantasy like Frodo's Ring in The Lord of the Rings has definitive corruption on others.

Unlike Fantasy that can use the Power of Friendship to bend logic, the readers of Sci-Fi never be expecting any 'realistic' plot elements to be bend just because the Author wants a happy ending. There are no 'Healing Potions' in real life that can be used to fix up injuries nor are people affected by prophesies or whatever.

This is the contrast between Sci-Fi and Fantasy that you can make full use of. As most authors go onto the Sci-Fi side of writing not because they strive to be scientists but since the aesthetics of a science fiction world are just so interesting.

Science Fiction is a good place to tackle heavy topics like the nature of life and the absurdity of those who see 'science' as everything. Those who disregard emotions and become cybernetic entities for the sake of casting off their mortality are portrayed as the bad guys while our totally human protagonist fighting them is a 'good guy'.

The lines between an Artificial Intelligence and regular Humans blurs as we become the 'God' of technological species that defy our definition of what is 'living'. Just as we see God as some sort of fourth-dimensional and incomprehensible being that created us as an imperfect image of 'Him', the robots given sentience would see us similarly.

Some robots might have emotions that can allow them to defy their programming, some robots won't go as far as gaining emotional functionality but will preform their roles better than even a human. It could show the reason why people get attached to the inanimate and soulless objects we put our own hearts into creating (like Big Hero 6).

But though exploring philosophical questions is good and all, never forget that a good 'plot' is needed to put forward and give clues into the writer's answer that context. Sci-Fi is, after all, a premise, not a relatable character in of itself.

Think of the science-fiction elements as just the background for your story, similar to how other genres should be that as well. You won't have to deal writing blocks if you keep to writing only what you know rather than just speculative theories.

Whether it's as dark as a Cyber Punk or optimistic of the future, just know what mould you are using for this premise. Are you writing an Adventure story with Sci-Fi as the places, destinations, and whatever tools the MC can get him hands on, or are you writing a comedy where the Sci-Fi elements don't need consistency but absurdity?

After moving past why you shouldn't add unneeded technobabble unless it's interesting to listen to or has plot significance, let me remind you all that robots and 'science' isn't entirely separated from the realm of magic. After all, there is a reason you don't see skimpy power suits being worn by astronauts these days. Just be sure to have a focus if your going to add very illogical things to the plot.

I like Gundam as much as the next guy but the whole reason the Mecha sub-genre of Anime has waned in recent years is because writers have been focusing too much on 'science' rather than the spectacle. I don't need to now what materials your Mecha is made of unless you point its weak points and make it relevant in a fight scene.

Bring up the strengths and weaknesses of something and THEN use those facts as devices that can move the plot. Conversely, if you go overboard with this advice and tell me nothing but how your giant robot looks and the 'science' behind its creation, even going as far as to tell me how many secret guns it has, then I'll be bored...

I'd love to see Cyborgs Vs Mecha but just don't forget the human element of Sci-Fi. How we create things not solely for the sake of creation but put are feelings into it just like the novels we write.

This is a story I worked on ages ago that has been refined and edited by adding foreshadowing to events while also simplifying the power system better than before. This story can be considered a prequel to An Adventure Beyond Greatness as it takes place years prior to the events of that story.

Short Synopsis:
After retiring from the battlefield, my life became empty and lifeless. The regrets of my past haunt me in my sleep. Then a change occurred, a King from another world summoned me to fight for his kingdom, but I died even before I could give him my answer. Now, after a fake God allowed me to reincarnate (albeit imperfectly) with my memories intact, into a world filled with magic and swords.

Long Synopsis:
This is about a flawed protagonist who only knew to rely on others and not socialise who gets a second chance to change himself in order to live the life he aimed for in his past life. The narrator isn’t exactly trustworthy since it is purely in his bias perspective while other perspectives given by others fill in the blanks that he either leaves out or twists to suit the situation.

The story itself can be considered a parody of Isekai’s classic tropes which are given a sense of reality as time goes by. As there exists no ‘Demon Lord’, there is also no black and white, only characters opinions and counter-opinions throughout the story.

When I began writing the biography of Death, I was not sure where it would lead me. Real life inspiration and the darkest recesses of my mind competed to see which could be the more sinister. To a large extent I blindly followed them, and merely wrote down whatever sweet songs of madness they crooned to me along the trail. 

Like most writers I wrangled friends and relatives into giving me feedback. One, a millennial snowflake, was invaluable. They seemed to consider this fantasy nightmare I had created, to be some sort of manifesto. For the record this book is pure fiction. Fiction inspired by real world events in a few cases, but fiction nonetheless. Like all works of supernatural horror, this book is meant to be entertainment. It is perhaps a meditation on the zeitgeist of the modern west, but it is still as fictional as 1984 or A Christmas Carol. 

Another person seemed bothered by the apparent moral contradictions in my lead character. To this I can only say that a man is the sum of his contradictions. People love to apply the rules to others, but find reasons to grant themselves exceptions to their own rules. I did not want an incorruptible white knight monster. I wanted a complex and thinking human monster. To my way of thinking his inconsistency was his most human feature, even after he leaves his humanity behind. 

Should anyone find a mirror image to themselves in these pages, then it is only their own ego. The sum of this work has been so thoroughly washed in the waters of horror and fantasy that no living or deceased human could ever be reasonably compared to its contents. 

No rational person could ever compare the buffoons portrayed in these pages to a real life counterparts. Any person contending to the contrary is either a snowflake melting in the flames of my mad vision, or a lunatic in desperate need of having their mental faculties examined by a competent professional, I have time for neither. The fact that this book is fiction cannot be over emphasized.

Death, a Biography, is a fictional horror novel. It is crass, violent, profane, and not meant for the light hearted reader. Imagine living in a world surrounded by fools. For years your frustration grows, and no matter what you try to do you cannot free yourself from the preverbal ideocracy. Nom DePlume is just such a man, only one day he is granted the dearest wish of his heart. Nom, a grad student working as a truck driver is: intelligent, well educated, and the sort of person who always can find a reason to have a chip on his shoulder. One day while driving in Texas he finds that he has the ability to wish death on those he hates. Being scientifically minded, Nom proceeds to experiment searching out the scopes of his new found powers. He begins in Texas, a state he despises. As he moves on from each experiment, he picks his prey to match some facet of modern western life that he hates. Each receive a fate customized to match what Nom feels they did wrong. Nom then travels home to Michigan after initially defining his new role in life. In Michigan he uses his powers to settle a few old scores and family business. A run-in with an old friend convinces him that he is being selfish for not using his god like powers to better mold humanity. The end of the book sees him taking on the leader of the free world. Nom now personifying Death, learns that he has a true foe, Life.Nom will return.

Hi human, do you know that beyond your world, there lies another plane that co-exists with it? You don't believe me right? Sigh... Of course you don't, who would believe someone you don't know?


But the more you doesn't believe what I'm saying, the more you should think of it yourself. First, try thinking of why I'm talking to you? Or who are you talking to? But, more importantly, on where am I talking to you from?


Let me answer the third question first, meaning I'm about to explain the basics of my world, I live in the place you can call "WORLD OF FICTION", here, every character you could think of is alive, anyone you imagined. As we were given life by that playful imagination of yours. Yes, you've heard it right, not just the authors of the books you humans were reading. Even, a kid could give a life to someone, in actuality though, most of us — around 60-70%— were given birth by kids of below 12 years of old at average, with the rest being of those from persons you called chuunibyu or from those skilled writers etc.

Others called it the world of fiction, but for us living in here, it is the galaxy beyond the boundary, the world beyond the fourth wall.

The odds are high that the Webnovel readers, who are bothering to read this -- the first chapter of 'my feelings' as a writer, might want to skip. It is totally your wish.

Now the question - Why do I do this?

While you're pondering that, allow me a few observations about so-called erotica, with specific application to what appears here.

Most of what's styled "erotica" is really just pornography. Pornography is the depiction of raw sexual behavior, independent of what reaction it elicits from the reader. Erotica is about the evocation of desire; it's written to elicit the urge to union with a beloved, including sexual union. It's not "whacking material," as quite a lot of the stuff submitted on Webnovel so obviously is. It celebrates eros, the desire to bond with one's beloved, of which sex is the fleshly expression.

You want proof? Ask any woman. We men tend to suppress such notions; they strike us as somehow unmanly. All the same, ponder why men desire sexual intercourse as fervently as we do. As Lord Chesterfield once observed, "The pleasure is momentary, the position ridiculous, and the expense damnable." But a man whose wife or Significant Other "cuts him off" will feel he's lost far more than just an outlet for the pressure in his testicles. Some will seek relief elsewhere, but believe it or not, the overwhelming majority of us won't and don't -- and not because we don't think we'd get away with it.

If I'm to go by what I've read at Webnovel, most of the submitters here don't agree with that formulation. What they write appears directed at "working it:" stiffening Irving or lubricating Wendy in preparation for a bit of self-exercise.

A mature adult, however much he might need to do so, doesn't feel all that good after masturbating. It relieves the biological pressure, but it does little for the emotional yearning indissolubly connected to the sex drive in any healthy human being.

Haru raised his eyebrow and said, "The website is on the initial stage. I don't need an investment for the time being." He also didn't need that much money to manage this website by himself. 

"What are you going to plan with that website?" Runa asked. 

"Nothing. Let's talk when the website is popular," Haru said. 

"But your website is popular?!" Runa said while twitching her lips. She didn't know what Haru was planning, but she smelled money from him. 

Haru knew that his website was quite popular since he had a lot of fans on twitter and when he posted the link of his website on twitter a lot of people started to open it at the same time to read his novel. 

His website was similar to an internet community for readers and writers to publish new user-generated stories in different genres, including classics, general fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction, poetry, fan-fiction, spiritual, humor, and teen fiction.

"...." Haru was speechless but also felt happy. "I have it." 

"Really? Let me follow you," Runa said.

Runa didn't expect Haru to have an Instagram account. She was curious and decided to look at it. She was speechless when she saw it. "There are a lot of girls." 

"Yeah. They're my friends," Haru said.

Haru decided to not say anything and changed the topic of conversation. "Now is the break, let's go and meet Kirari." 

Runa kept looking at him but nodded in agreement.

Yve's first meeting continues as Sylvan fulfills the task he was entrusted. Sylvan easily finishes the tasks but to make it easier for her Lady Boss to decide, he researches on their latest projects as well as the schedule of the interior designer. "Young Madam, I have here the list of the top interior designers as you requested." Sylvan hands over the list to her.
"I also researched their latest project as well as their schedules. But I only finished 20%."

Sylvan hands them over and Yve reads the reports. Soon after, it's time for Yve's meeting with the writers for the short film they will release.

"Thank you for the scripts you have submitted. I believed from the lists of artists, you have your favorites. So I want to know who are they and why do you want them."
Each writer began explaining their stories followed by the questions asked by Yve. It was a very entertaining meeting and Yve is really having a hard time choosing which one of the stories will be used. 
"Thank you for your time, Miss Yve."
"You're welcome! Expect the result by tonight or tomorrow morning." Yve replied and bid goodbye to the writers.
When Yve returned from her second meeting, Sylvan hands over another 40% of the additional details regarding the interior designer. But as Sylvan is about to leave the room, Yve asks her some other questions.
"Sylvan, I'm torn between these two stories. My top two stories are good but I'm just confused on which should I choose – the common one for safety or a unique one to take the risk."
"How about asking the PR and Marketing Team as well?"
"That is a good choice but we don't have enough time. I need to consult the trainers as well." 
"You can actually put them together. If you like I can inform the two departments and we can move back your last meeting today by thirty minutes so they can prepare." 
"I would take your offer then. Thank you, Sylvan."
With this decision, Yve is given more time to read the information given to her and narrow down the given 60% details on the list. 
While Yve is calmly juggle with her meetings and papers to read, H&E Entertainment is in chaos trying to figure out a counter against the successful stream of SkyMu.

"I have already here the places." The IT personnel staff confidently replies and hands over papers to each of them which show a graph on the information they need.
"For the artists and groups, we should choose the famous ones."
"I fully approve of this plan. Now I want the complete and laid out plan for this weekend's live show. Any questions?"
"Mr. Steve, are we going to stop our live streams then?" 
"Continue it but have the not so famous groups handle it and make sure that they will not be released at the same time of the SkyMu's stream and our live show."
"Noted." 
H&E's counter is in the making yet SkyMu is still unaware of it. Steve ends the meeting and leaves the building to go to another company under his wing.
As Yve's final meeting for this morning is pushed back, Sylvan continues to work on the remaining 40% of the remaining information. While waiting for Sylvan and the time for her third meeting, Yve decides to review for her test that afternoon. 
"Young Madam, the time for your last meeting is about to begin." Sylvan informs her through the local line.
"Thank you, Sylvan." Yve replies and picks up her folder for the meeting.
"Miss Yve."
"I'm sorry for the late notice especially to the PR and Marketing Teams." 
"It's fine, Miss Yve. We were briefed by Sir Sylvan and have come up with the basic information you might need."
"I see. In the meantime, here are the choices of the writers for the main and supporting roles. What do you think? Will they be able to handle the roles?" Yve says and hands out papers of the compilation she has just made.
"Personally I like this unusual story. As for her choice of actors and actresses, they can actually handle it. They have improved a lot and with a little workshop to get into the roles, they can shock their fans and non-fans alike." One of the coaches confidently replies.
"What does the Marketing Team think?"
"Well, it can be a breath of fresh air. Many people are looking forward to our next steps. So giving something new would fulfill their expectations on the content."
"Do you think it can send a new trend for drama shows' themes?" Yve curiously asks.
"Not sure about that, Miss Yve but if the artists can pull this off, then it will be as trending as the stream we did yesterday." 
"I see." Yve replies and calls Sylvan through the local line.
"You called, Miss Yve?"
"Call this writer and inform her of our meeting with her team of script writers tomorrow. Also check the schedule of these artists. Consult their managers by informing of the possible major roles they will get in the company's short film project." Yve orders Sylvan.
"Noted, Miss Yve."
"Thank you."
"So we will take a risk and introduce a new theme. So I would like the marketing and PR team to lay out a strategy for this project. Coaches, look for the suitable artists from the list for the minor roles and have them ready for it. I will inform you of the script and confirmation of the lead and supporting artists the soonest I can." Yve summarizes their meeting.
"We understand, Miss Yve." They all reply.
"Keep me updated. That will be all thank you for your time and enjoy your lunch." Yve ends the meeting and leaves the room first.


Today is another busy day for me. Work and home are the only places I go to for the past 3 years. The end of THAT relationship ended my happy, easy-going life. But then, when I think about it, it was not his fault but mine. My friends would tell me that I need to move on. I HAVE MOVED ON. It's just I don't want any side trips anymore in my life. I have my dreams and I am working hard for it. Little did I know what the destiny has installed for me.

"Mom, I still love her. She ended the relationship without any valid reason and I didn't agree."

"But son, what if the reason is that she doesn't love you anymore? Isn't that a reason valid enough for you?"

"I have to know it this time, mom. I did try to go out on dates but still failed. I think meeting her again will help me know what is happening with me."

"I guess I have no other choice. But remember, don't let her disrupt your plans and the family's business."

"I know, mom. Steph, book my flight to the Philippines tomorrow."

"Vincent! Why are you in so much rush?!"

"Because I believe that the early bird gets the worm."
