Chen Mu looked at the advertisement being broadcasted on the fantasy card platform. The green mark could be clearly seen on it, giving him an odd feeling. Up till now, nearly all mainstream fantasy card platforms were broadcasting this advertisement. Faya's clout was indeed huge. This matter that would be very difficult for him had been completed by Faya just like that with an absolute ease.
Perhaps this might show some results after all. Looking at the green mark being broadcasted everywhere, a trace of hope rose in Chen Mu's heart. Suddenly, House Tai-shu's commander rushed into the room with a card in his hand, "White Commander, someone handed me a fantasy card outside and named you as the recipient of the card."
"Where is he?" Chen Mu asked.
"He left after leaving the card."
Chen Mu took the fantasy card and inserted it into his apparatus. House Tai-shu's commander tactfully left the room even though he was very curious about the content of the card as well. A short while later, Chen Mu shut his apparatus, his eyes turning frosty.
A piece of news about the Big Bad Wolves was contained within this card. Then person that had delivered this card was a card artisan of Central Repository of the Classics. Before Xie Yanbai left, he requested that they helped as best as they could. The Big Bad Wolves were only three days away from Dongrui City. It was clear that their target was Chen Mu.
This was completely different from Chen Mu's previous guess. He had guessed that the Comprehensive Federation Academy was merely pretending to be in pursuit of him to get an excuse to intervene with the alliance being set up at Heavenly Drum Village District. But from how aggressively the Big Bad Wolves was behaving, it was clear that he was their actual target.
Chen Mu could not understand the reason for this. The Comprehensive Federation Academy was rather lacking in power at the moment. It was not a smart thing to send a huge number of powerhouses after him with great fanfare like this.
If a person like Tang Hanpei was doing something that seemed stupid like this, there was definitely some unknown agenda hidden behind this. Very few people actually knew what Tang Hanpei had in his mind. Chen Mu did not believe that he was one of them. However, Chen Mu also understood that watching on as the Big Bad Wolves came would be very dangerous.
He would still have some sort of leeway when dealing with Tan Yumin. But if it was the Big Bad Wolves, there was no leeway to speak of. It would seem like he now owed Xie Yanbai yet another favor. Wei-ah, Little Bu Mo, Xiaobo, and Sang Hanshui were all gathered by Chen Mu. The first thing he did was replaying the fantasy card in front of them.
"Boss, maybe you are too handsome? That's why everyone got attracted?" Xiaobo appeared completely flabbergasted. Although Sang Hanshui did not speak, his expression made it clear that he agreed with Xiaobo. In his eyes, his boss was a magnet that could attract numerous troubles without knowing it. Even his boss would be astonished by the all the troubles.
 "I'll help you!" Little Bu Mo said as he waved his fist with a serious expression. His fight with Si Dongkou had previously had given him a boost in confidence. He was now training harder than before, and as he was at the age where his body developed the fastest, he was growing quickly.
Wei-ah did not say anything and his face was expressionless. However, everyone was already used to his detached persona. Chen Mu took out the fantasy card from the card player and inserted a different fantasy card into it. A detailed three-dimensional map appeared in front of everyone.
"Huh? Boss, where did you get this?" Xiaobo asked in astonishment as he stared at the map. The map was extremely detailed and lifelike. A three-dimensional map with such precision was extremely rare and was not available for sale.
"I got it from Tai-shu Yong," Chen Mu replied. Then, he pointed at a city on the map and said, "They are here, Seven Mengri City."
All four of them looked at where Chen Mu was pointing at as their gazes collectively landed on a city not far from Dongrui City.
"From Seven Mengri City to Dongrui City, they can take three paths. The path going through Fir Town is the shortest path. I believe the probability of them choosing this path is the highest," Chen Mu gave a detailed explanation.
"Why, Woody?" Little Bu Mo asked as he looked at Chen Mu with doubt.
Chen Mu explained, "They had not bothered concealing their coming all along the way. It was as if they are afraid that nobody would know they are coming. From this, it is obvious that they are extremely confident in destroying us."
When Sang Hanshui heard that, he snorted, "Those idiots."
His eyes were filled with an ominous glint.
"This is why I guessed that they will take this path as this path will take them the shortest time to travel," Chen Mu concluded directly.
"What should we do?" Xiaobo was no longer as playful as he usually was. This time, their enemies weren't some ordinary people. Those people were the elites of the Comprehensive Federation Academy.
"We will take the initiative and make the attack," Chen Mu said calmly. Then, a frosty glint surfaced on his eyes as he added, "If we stay passive and wait for them to come, we will lose the initiative. The difference between our strength is too great. From what they had done so far, they seem to be underestimating us. They never would have guessed that we would be attacking instead. The distance between them and us make it best for us to ambush them since even if we fail the ambush, we have enough leeway to continue fighting on. If we fight in Dongrui City instead, we will be in a very difficult situation as once surrounded, it will be the end of us."
Everyone was evidently shocked by Chen Mu's reasoning. They all listened attentively, not wanting to miss a single detail.
"Between Seven Mengri City and Dongrui City, there were three cities and one town. The city before Fir Town is Chur City. There is a distance of 3,700 km between them. This is a distance that will take about five to seven hours to travel with high speed flight. As these card artisans are all from the capital, they won't be used to the harsh cold of Heavenly Drum Village District. It is very likely that they will try to reduce the time on the road and head straight to Fir Town before stopping to rest."
Xiaobo nodded, "That's right. If it's me, I will also head straight to Fir Town before stopping. This weather is a torture to travel."
"This is good for us. After five hours of flight, their stamina and Perception would have been greatly exhausted. They would be tired in both mind and body. Moreover, we have one benefit at our side, the energy card."
"Energy card?" Sang Hanshui couldn't help but to ask. He could not understand how energy card would have anything to do with this.
"Yes, energy card. Before anyone could reply, he continued, "If we attack at that exact moment, they will not have the time to switch their cards. This will be very advantageous for us. Moreover, I have the Snake Lens. I will be able to determine their exact location, helping us when planning or revising our ambush on the go."
After he spoke, Chen Mu felt his throat go dry and drank some water. When he saw that nobody was responding, he asked curiously, "Why? Is there any problem with the plan?"
Xiaobo's mouth was wide agape with a blank look on his face. After a while, he spoke, "Boss, when did you become so great?"
Sang Hansui was also shocked with his eyes opened wide. He nodded his head in agreement by reflex.
"Great? How am I great?" Chen Mu was completely confused.
Xiaobo gradually regained his calm as he looked at Chen Mu with an odd gaze, as if he was looking at a freak. Little Bu Mo was looking at Chen Mu with a worshipping gaze, as if stars were twinkling in his eyes.
"When did you learn that from Commander Bog? No, that doesn't seem like something Commander Bog would do."
Xiaobo rubbed his chin in contemplation and continued, "Is boss trying to get on the Renowned General Ranking? Oh, looks like the Black Line Star Listing is below boss now."
While Xiaobo babbled on, Chen Mu rolled his eyes and said, "This is very easy. It only requires some simple calculation."
 "Simple?" Xiaobo laughed but did not comment much on it. He knew that most of the time, this boss of his was an extremely insensitive person as his sense of logic was way too different than an ordinary person. Today, his boss surprised him greatly. Only now did he realize that unknowingly, his boss had grown to this extent.
In truth, this plan wasn't exactly complicated. But from this analysis, one could see that Chen Mu had an extremely clear train of thought now. Indeed, that was merely a matter of calculation. But unknown to Chen Mu, this seemingly simple calculation had propelled him to a new height.
Xiaobo was a knowledgeable person and understood how difficult it was to come by a growth like this. If a card artisan only focused his attention on skills, he would at most become a powerful card artisan instead of a leader.
Now, Chen Mu was no longer looking at things from the perspective of a card artisan. He had learned to see things from a higher perspective. In this chaotic world, this would be extremely important for a team. Furthermore, Chen Mu was still so young. He had a lot of room for growth.
XIaobo refreshed his conviction to follow Chen Mu. Sang Hanshui was also an old fox like Xiaobo. All these things that Xiaobo thought of had also appeared in his mind. They both exchanged glances before smiling knowingly to each other.
"We will rest for five hours before setting off," Chen Mu decided when he saw that nobody had any objections. Apart from Little Bu Mo, everyone here was a veteran of many battles. Therefore, it did not take them long to enter a resting state.
As for Chen Mu, he rested his chin on his palms as he studied the three-dimensional map. His brain spun rapidly as he was trying to see if he had missed anything. Without Bogner by his side, he had nobody to give him guidance. He had to decide everything by himself. With such pressure on him, he did not dare to slack. That was why he was putting all his effort to improve their situation. This battle would be very important for them. And that was not all of his plan.

"That map Hugh gave you was pretty expensive!" Joseph said, glancing at the small tube hanging on his father's belt that contained the rolled map.
"It was, but I wasn't paying for the map," his father explained.
"Huh?  What do you mean?"
"I was paying for his willingness to do something that not many people would do.  I was paying him for possibly getting in trouble if anyone else saw that map.  The political situation in the three kingdoms right now are a little rocky, so if any of the kings currently in charge get their hands on this particular map, a war could easily break out.  Normally, us merchants only get to see a generic map, that may or may not be correct, of the current kingdom we are in, and then we would have to travel to the next kingdom to see a map of it."
Joseph nodded in understanding.  With the details Hugh had placed in his maps, he could easily see generals using them to maneuver troops.
"Why might there be a war?"  Joseph thought about his mother.  If he was traveling with his father, and war broke out, the borders would be closed and he might not be able to visit his mother in six months, like they had planned.
"Normally the three kingdoms would have kids that could be married to each other, for example, Rathwold might have a daughter that could be married to a son from Sedonia, and then a daughter from Sedonia could be married to Oxalium, and so on.  However, this time, they all had sons. Not one daughter was born.  So, tensions are getting pretty high.  The oldest child is only ten, so we probably have another five years or so before things get nasty, but it's not looking good at the moment."
 "Wow."
"Exactly."
They continued on to the caravan that was waiting for them.  Over the past week Joseph had gotten new clothes from his father that matched his own, and he was now wearing them proudly.  Everyone who saw them in matching clothes would smile.  Joseph had heard the word cute a few too many times, but he didn't care.
They were preparing to head to his father's next stop.  As the children slaves reached certain milestones and ages, they were moved from the caravan to places his father had set up.  The place they were heading to next was called Town 4.  When questioned on why it was a number instead of a name, William explained that he didn't have the status to be able to set up a real town.  He could buy estates as a merchant, so he had purchased large estates and then had many buildings built.  Each location was set up as a self-sufficient town, capable of teaching his slaves to a certain point, then they would be moved along to the next 'town'.
"If I were to have my own kingdom, you could provide a lot of people, couldn't you dad?" Joseph asked while they traveled.
His father glanced at him, thoughtfully mulling over his answer.
"I have a lot of slaves.  What happens to them, after they are sold, is up to the new owner.  As long as those slaves are not mistreated, I don't mind what is done with them."
Joseph understood that his father didn't want to expose their secret.  He felt bad for his choice of words, but knew that anyone who overheard him, would automatically assume it was nothing more than the rambling thoughts of a child.
Nodding in understanding he asked, "Do you have any slaves capable of doing magic?"
"It is very hard to have slaves capable of doing magic, but it is not unheard of.  The few that I have were very expensive to be trained.  I have one at the next location that does food magic, three who do some form of healing magic and one who can do fire."
"I would very much like to learn magic." Joseph looked at his father long enough to make sure he understood the implications.
"I can have Stu try to teach you magic, but without magery to help you along, it's going to be impossible to learn.  Though I suppose a miracle isn't unheard of.  Perhaps you could unlock some lost talent or something in our bloodline," his father mused in amusement.
"Can you do magic?"
William laughed and shook his head.
"There's a lot of things I can do, but casting spells is not one of them."
Joseph nodded in understanding.  It was frustrating to talk to him about things when they had to keep the system a secret.  Though he doubted any one was listening to them, he didn't know if there wasn't magic being used to listen in.
With a sigh he turned back to the window for the rest of the trip that day.

Joseph woke with a jerk and looked around.  With a sigh, he sat up.  This had been happening every morning since the system was activated and he got all his memories unlocked.  He dreamt of his past lives mostly.  It was like his brain wasn't big enough to fit all of the information in at once.  His own life was viewed with crystal clarity after receiving photographic memory, but the previous lives still came in bits and fragments.  Mostly, they were in dreams, but sometimes during the day something would trigger one.  
He had been dreaming about going to school in life 1 and being on the Kvetz team.  The closest thing life 2 had to it was a game he didn't like at all called chess.  Nothing he had seen in this current life was much like either.  After the dream, he felt a lingering fondness for Kvetz and a general dislike of chess.
His dad had explained a bit about his past life, as being more of a general impression, rather than as actual memories.
The first time he woke up like this, he had thought he was possessed.  He finally decided that maybe he felt the past life stronger than his dad did, because he was younger or because he had two past lives instead of just one.  After a whole week, it was getting harder and harder to act his age.
With a sigh, he climbed out of bed.  The system may be forcing information into his head, but it was his decision to be the mage king.  As a future king he had to make use of everything he could.  Most of last night's dreams, aside from the games, had included techniques on cooking, construction equipment, and bits of chemistry.
He pulled out a journal where he was placing some of his ideas and began to sketch.  He was almost certain life 2 was of a dentist who never got married.  He had worked a lot of odd jobs through college and cooked alone a lot.  There were no pleasant childhood memories and none of his memories had clear images of other people.  He thought he had been an orphan or some term called foster.  He wasn't sure what that meant, but it seemed lonely.
Excitedly, he started drawing the construction equipment and added notes.  There had been a large harvest in his dream.  He didn't know how to make the engines he drew, or the gasoline that powered it but he did know the basic physics for a steam generator he had learned about and showed at a fair in high school.  The memory was still sketchy but he was able to draw the picture.  He figured golems made more sense and seemed far simpler.  The reason he hadn't used them in the memory was probably because of the lack of magic in the other world.
The last thing he added was a recipe for gunpowder and soap that wasn't hard on your hands.  Apparently in life 2, he had washed his hands so many times, that he had developed reactions to normal soap, so he had developed a better one.  Just like the recipe for pizza that he had written down earlier, he had no idea how to get the basic ingredients.  Some were incredibly expensive and others, like ammonia producing salt peter, were foreign to him.  Though he did know that potassium chloride was used to chemically strengthen glass and used in toothpaste for sensitive teeth.
As he wrote that last bit down, his mind wandered.  Toothpaste and brushes would probably help his dad's slaves.  Nobody likes to buy expensive slaves that are missing teeth.  He would have to mention it to him.
Stepping out of his small tent, he waved at his dad to let him know he was ready to get going.  They should arrive at town 4 today and he would finally get to meet Stu, his future magic instructor.

A: To my most active patron, I do not have an editor. My process is to write the chapter (usually 3 chapters at a time) and then to read them through immediately before I upload the official chapter on WN and RR. So they get a once over days later and hopefully I catch any mistakes. The exceptions are chapters I am nervous about. The chapter where Noone jumps (17), the chapters where Noone returns to a desolated Tapestry, and chapters 76 and 90 specifically.

A: So some of the answer is too spoilery to explain right now, but to answer as best as I can… Noone's race (the race of Tapestry) was once human. But they spent so long underground and influenced by their inheritance that they evolved to be something different entirely while the outside world passed them by.
(The original character of Noone I made was for a dnd campaign years ago, and his design (as well as the design of the people of Tapestry) are heavily influenced by the "Earth Genasi" race in 5e)

The Bloom family dining hall. Eight people were sitting at the table, waiting for dinner to be served. Only two of them were happily chatting though, the other six were still perplexed about the turn of events. The conversation the other two were holding was to put it nicely "not very interesting and very plain". Joshua had the impression he had landed straight into a bad sitcom and had even ordered Luna to play a laughing track every time he deemed appropriate. 

A woman suddenly marched out of the kitchen and said:  "Dinner's ready! Honey, can you help me serve our guests?"
"Of course, darling!" Henry Bloom replied and helped his wife distribute the dishes. 

Joshua looked at the plate that was brought in front of him. It was a pasta-based dish reminding him of spaghetti. Instinctively, he scanned it to check if there was no strange substance hidden inside the meal but found nothing unusual. He took a bit out of it and found the food pretty tasteless. 

'Even the food feels fake…' he thought. 

About an hour earlier, the previously dead owners had come home, clueless of their previous state. Worse, upon discovering a bunch of intruders inside their house, their immediate reaction was to invite them for dinner. They were also overjoyed that their good friend Lucien had come to visit and didn't care he had been tied up in their basement. And thus, the party was currently 'enjoying' a free supper as a guest of the Bloom family. 

From Joshua's point of view, the only positive element in the last hour was Catherine's new clothes, she simply looked gorgeous in her new outfit. Clarisse had complimented her, naturally oblivious to the fact Catherine was wearing one of her own dresses.

Catherine was pretty clueless about the situation as well. When Joshua had announced the owners were coming home, she initially thought it was one of his dumb jokes. And boy, did she wish it was.   Eric and Joshua briefly told everyone the population of the city suffered from what's called a 'Wiping'. They thus pretended to have had one and were confused about a lot of things. The Blooms had bought that lame excuse, no questions asked. 

While eating, Catherine kept an eye on the rest of the party. They were all quiet, clearly wondering what to do next. Joshua's expression was actually pitiful. He didn't seem to take the situation well. 

'Joshua, you look terrible. Can you adjust your position or they might start asking more questions...' she said, mentally. 
'Are you kidding? I could have entered their house dressed up like Darth Vador and they still wouldn't bat an eye. These people are… I don't know. This whole scene freaks me out.' 
'I'm not at ease either. Still, don't you think it's a good opportunity to gather information? They think we lost our memory and answer everything without thinking too much about it.' 
'Go ahead, I don't speak stupid. I wanna go home.' 
'Fine… I would have expected you to be a bit more mature, though. This doesn't resemble you.' 
'Sorry, you're right… I think I need some time to adjust to the general ambiance of this place.' 
'Suit yourself, but please don't take too long. I need that brilliant mind you're so proud of.' 
'Ha, unfortunately, I think complete morons are a natural enemy of mine, I cannot comprehend their actions.' 

Everyone was more or less done eating by now, so the moment seemed opportune to ask some questions. 

"Mister Bloom, thanks again for the invitation," Catherine began.
"Don't worry about it, my dear. Your presence at our table has been so cheerful. It's us who should thank you for bringing such joy in our daily life."
Catherine took a quick glance at her friends who looked like they were about to die of frustration and couldn't fathom where he got that idea.
 She continued: "As we told you, we seem to suffer from a Wiping. May we bother you with another favor? Could you help us refresh our memory and give us a general information tour of the city?" 
"Of course, of course! It will be our pleasure! Please wait a moment, I'll go get our holomap."  

Henry left the house and headed for his vehicle. A moment later, he came back with a strange circular object. In the meantime, Clarisse and Lucien had cleaned up the dining table. Henry placed his weird ball on it and pressed a button on its side. Immediately, a few runes began to shine on the surface of the ball and a few seconds later, it began emitting light which formed a three-dimensional hologram of the city. 

Catherine was delighted to see that Joshua's expression became a bit more interested and he was examining the map in detail. The others were a bit more surprised at the sudden appearance, Catherine had slowly become more accustomed to technology thanks to Joshua's influence so the hologram didn't surprise her too much, but the others had only acquired Luna recently so they still had a long way to go. 

The projection was extremely detailed. Catherine couldn't help but fathom how ordered the map looked. The core of the city was surrounded by a large circular canal. From that circle, eight straight branches were flowing inwards to the center of the place, dividing the city into eight equal districts. Each of those had a massive pillar-like structure at its center. The eight water flows eventually converged into a big lake located right in the middle of the metropolis. On the lake, there was an island, on which a large magnificent structure, which Catherine suspected to be a palace had been built. Actually, the palace wasn't the only beautiful thing to behold. Once you went past the first circle, the global architecture became extremely extravagant. Most houses seemed to have unique designs with their facade ornate with various motifs, statues, mosaics, and frescoes.  Even though her family was wealthy, her own mansion paled compared to a mere random building found here.  She wondered about their current position and it was easy to find. There was a glowing dot on the map, indicating it. They were currently in the suburbs of the city, outside the outer circle, where the structures were much more modest looking. 

His dumb smile unwavering, Henry began his explanations:
"My friends, I hope you at least remember the basics. The city lord lives on the island in the center of town. Access to that place is strictly forbidden unless you receive an invitation. 

The city is divided into eight districts, each powered by an elemental generator," he said while pointing at one of the giant pillars. "There is one for each type of energy and we name the districts after the element their generator is producing. We have thus have the Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light, Dark, Lightning and Neutral Districts. Combined they provide all the energy we need for the whole city. Does any of this ring a bell?" 

"It's starting to come back," Lydia lied. 

"Wonderful. Now, considering the whole population is suffering from Wipings, we have established an office that records important events in one's life. If you want, I'll take you there tomorrow. They'll perform an archive search and pull out all the data they can about you. This will help you stabilize your situation. Also, it would be nice for you to remember where you actually live."

Catherine froze. This was a problem. Even assuming everyone in the city is as much of an escapee from the cuckoo's nest as those three, even they would start to get suspicious if there is nothing about them in the archives. 

"We appreciate your help, but you have already done so much for us. If you could point us in the right direction, we'll go there by ourselves tomorrow." 

"Are you sure? Well, it's up to you. You can borrow my holomap if you want." 
Catherine nodded and replied: "That would be appreciated." 
"Anything else you want to know?" 

The obvious one was 'Why are you alive after being murdered?' but Catherine doubted he knew the answer to that. She decided to ask something a bit riskier. 

"I think I remember a rumor that strangers came to our city recently. Have you heard anything about it?"

"Strangers? What silly gossip. There is nothing apart from our great city. It's our whole world!" 

"Hmm, you're probably right, forget about it." 

It was best not to pry too much. Since Henry had graciously offered to borrow his map, they had everything they needed to keep exploring.

The whole party suddenly looked at Joshua. 

'What are you all looking at? Have you forgotten Luna's equipped with a mapping system? Of course, the first thing to do upon finding a map as detailed as this is scanning it! You all need to become more tech-savvy. Anyway, we don't need his holomap anymore. Mine's better,' he told them mentally. 

Catherine quickly checked via Luna what he meant. Luna produced an image similar to the hologram, except showing everyone's position except just the map's current location. Joshua told them that obviously, apart from Catherine it would only work for those in range of the network. Furthermore, the map was equipped with a custom zoom that allowed them to see the nearby area in detail and would auto-complete as they explored more buildings.

After dinner, the Blooms proposed for everyone to stay for the night. They accepted and were given two rooms on the ground floor. One for the ladies and one for the guys. It was already fairly late by then so they quickly retired for the night, leaving the three morons up to their dumb conversations. 

'I think you all had your shares of weird emotions for today. You should all rest while I stay on watch duty,' Joshua messaged them. 
'You… don't want to talk about what happened today?' Catherine replied. 
'I… need to… readjust my opinion on the situation. Clearly, as you all suspect there is something utterly wrong about this place. Just, give me until morning. I'll try to learn more.'
'Fine, just don't do anything reckless.' 

Still confused about the events of the day, the party went to sleep. As for Joshua, he exited the room he was in leaving Boris and Eric alone. He then dismissed his body and observed the three local specimens in their natural habitat. 

They talked about dumb stuff for a few hours, it was soon well past midnight. Joshua was bored out of his mind. 

They broke into an argument and began to fight. Joshua grabbed some popcorn. 

They ended up killing each other. Joshua was somehow delighted. 

Even though those three morons stabbed one another, no blood was flowing out. Furthermore, like last time, the bodies had no odor. 

'This is truly a bad program, I hope something better is airing.'  

Joshua kicked the bodies into a corner, if he was right it would take a few days for them to vanish. No need to bother the others for something so minor. He sat down on the sofa and turned on the television. He was in luck, a live adaptation of Nathalie Tangai was airing.

After dying, our main character found himself summoned by a young woman. She comes from a long line of summoners and had expected to partner up with a powerful being, like the rest of her family. Instead, she summoned a computer programmer, who from now on will be living inside her head. Powerless, he's unable to help her with the upcoming war. Disappointed that neither of them had been blessed by fate with some divine abilities, he decides to build a computer system inside her head himself.

Arthur Brown was taken back at the beauty inside of the big town name, the village. There were many kinds of species of people who were busy with their daily lives. A few people noticed the man with the strange pattern, clothing, color, and armor he was wearing. Most people found it interesting and a few merchants that were passing by being very intrigued by him, and especially his backpack, which was the MARPAT, improved load-bearing equipment (ILBE for short.) That was possibly holding a ton of load with ease on his back, but they didn't dare to approach the man due to his Stern expression, on his face that made them feel intimidated very easily. 

"Here we are, the guild we were talking about, you should be able to register pretty easily inside and get everything sorted out before doing any quests for rewards," Xander explains, before the group enters the big guild building that was 5 stories high and surprisingly, the center of this huge town, which made Arthur Brown curious if he will be able to write and read in this world considering their alphabets, could be completely different from his.

The modern soldier noticed all sorts and kinds of knights and different classes within the guild talking to one another, even those that were showing off their abilities like making ice and fire appear from their fingertips. He soon found himself standing in front of a reception with a young girl dressed in fine clothing and a bow tie on her collar. 

"Welcome to the adventurer's guild! How may we help you today?" The girl said happily to the modern soldier as she tries to not comment about the appearance of his look, but mostly his face that was scaring her deep inside. Arthur Brown remembered what Xander told him about the steps he needed to do in order to register, but he wasn't quite sure about the whole writing his name fraction.

"I would like to register as an adventurer!"

The girl was startled by his firm words and begin to stutter. 

"D-D-Do you have 5 copper coins for that?"

Arthur Brown opens a small pouch that Pietro gave him before the group left to do another quest, and he noticed a good amount of money inside and he was curious to himself, which one was a copper. Again. He takes out a golden coin and drops it back into the bag again and tries looking for the copper.

Finally, Arthur Brown found, all 5 of them that he was looking for, for the reception girl. He placed the 5 coppers on the counter for her, which in return, she takes them and heads back inside somewhere and comes back with a paper and an ink pen that look like it was from the 10th century. 

"Just write down your name and also what is your ability and class?"' 

Arthur Brown, wasn't quite sure what his ability was in class and how this fantasy world does things in some ways, but he tries to think of something and begin to write down on the piece of paper, but to his surprise, the ink was glowing on the paper like hue and disappears shortly after when he stopped at writing. 

'Whoa! I didn't know this fantasy world had that!' 

The modern soldier afterward finished writing down on the piece of paper and eventually the reception girl took the paper from him after he was finished and began to read it and confirmed it herself, but she stopped herself from walking somewhere in the back when her eyes landed on class and ability and was confused by what he wrote down. 

"Sir, do you know what Spawn ability, as well as a marine infantryman, means because I don't understand?" The girl asked Arthur Brown with confusion shown on her face. He was prepared for this just in case if she was curious or confused, and he begins to explain what an infantryman was and also demonstrated the ability spawn by spawning a random item from his menu screen from browsing the food section. 

A brownish tan color box wrapped in plastic with black symbols and words that the young girl had never seen before was a Meal Ready To Eat (MRE for short.) From his hand, and the girl's eyes widen at this in surprise before rushing back somewhere in the back with the paper and soon return with a silver card and green badge and placing it on the counter for him.

"What is the rank specifically in the adventurers Guild?"

Soon, the young girl pulls out a smaller board underneath the counter, that had a different quality of rank badges on it, and she begins to explain how the ranks in the guild work as she puts it on the counter in front of Arthur Brown. 

"Right now you are Rank Tier 1 and this is Rank tier 2 and the last rank above rank tier 3 and 4 is a Master Rank Tier!" She explains to Arthur Brown while smiling the whole time. 

"I see and what is the condition for each Rank?" Arthur Brown, ask again to the young girl with curiosity, fully understanding the explanation from the receptionist.

"You get to fight against harder enemy bosses and monster higher tier level classes, and if you make it to Master Tier, you even get a chance to get the attention of even kings and queens across the continent!" 

The soldier rubs his Chin while nodding to what she was saying, while in thought.

'Interesting that there are kingdoms in this fantasy world, but also Kings and Queens? Now that's something.'

The young girl places away fro the small board underneath the counter and soon pointed towards a crowd of people surrounding a pole in the center of the building inside, and there were 4 boards on each side with dozens of notes stamped on it.

"There you will be able to find a quest for your rank and be rewarded when you complete the mission, but if you fail, then you do not have to worry about that, because you can always try again." 

The young girl had fair skin and she smiled at him with delight, and he noticed that she had a blue eye color on the left eye and like gray on the right eye, and he found it pretty adorable. Soon, the modern military soldier saluted at her in a military pose before doing an about-face and walking away towards the pole board, that had dozens of quests stamped on it.

'Let's see if we can do any quest to earn some money.'

Everyone stared at the modern soldier, and a few of them were whispering to one another about the stranger in his weird outfit and equipment. Arthur Brown didn't pay any mind at all and didn't even pay attention to their stares and what they were talking about and he eventually stops in front of one the pole boards and he begins to scan the notes that were stamped on the board.

'Gathering herbs outside the fairy forest and eliminating a goblin horde nearby mountain valley and zombie horde problem in a town named feather arrow and skeleton movement has been spotted in the nearby village of the diamond dial.' 

Meanwhile, the modern soldier was busy examining the quest notes on the board. A few groups of people notice the strange soldiers Stern expression on his face, and they were frightened by this as though he was going to attack any moment, and they begin to walk away from him because they were frightened by his expression, and they didn't want to mess with this guy.
 
'There are pretty interesting names for these locations, but how the heck am I supposed to find any of these places if I don't have a map?'

A map HUD suddenly appears in front of him, which surprises the modern soldier and he looks at it closely and noticed that it was showing him the location he was at. Arthur Brown blinks a couple of times before tapping on it with his fingertip on the map and it moves slightly with his very touch.

'It looks like I don't have to worry about that now since I finally found the map HUD just by calling its name.'

The map showed real-time on his location, but the most important part about it was that it had detailed information on it, and Arthur Brown notices a few buildings nearby that were being shown on the map, that it had names, as well as information about them.

"This will come in handy." Arthur Brown said to himself out loud among the crowd and soon realized that people were staring at him. People were whispering to one another about the stranger in funny clothing and equipment, and some people were thinking that he was crazy.

'I probably should check the map outside next time with no one around me unless I want to make people think that I have lost my mind.'

Arthur Brown notices a quest that caught his eyes on the board and approaches it to examine it closely and begin to read it.

[Rescue a missing girl and boy from bandits.]

'Now that's something even more concerning, among these quests, but it isn't a rank tier-one since it has something to do with the Bandits, maybe I should convince the receptionist girl that I can handle the situation?'

Arthur Brown took the quest paper right off of the pole board and begin to walk back towards the receptionist, and he places the quest paper on the counter in front of her with a serious look on his face.

"I want to take this Quest." 

The young girl took the paper and begin to read the information about the quest, and soon realized that it was actually a rank tier 3 quest.

"B-but sir, this quest is only for Rank tier 3 and higher, and also according to the rules, you must have a party in order to do this mission since it's very dangerous, and bandits are always in big groups!"

Arthur Brown started to think of a way to convince this young girl that he can do this quest, and he begins to remember about his spawn ability.

"If I have a group with me, then will I be able to do the quest then?"

The young receptionist nodded with seriousness on her face.

"Then I will be back."

Arthur Brown took this opportunity to leave immediately, while passing by nearby adventurers that were standing around having a conversation with one another, and soon exit the building and notice an alleyway not too far from him, and quickly jogs himself towards that alleyway and checks both sides to secure his position, and didn't notice anybody following him and watching him.

'Seems like the coast is clear...'

Arthur Brown opens his menu screen and begins to browse through it till he finally found what he was looking for, which were units he can spawn in, and he clicks it with his finger, which opens another menu screen suddenly, and it shows a total of soldiers and classes that he can choose from and information about them.

'Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard...'

Arthur Brown realized that he can select any one of these branches in the United States forces and was taken back by this.

"Wait a moment, why am I able to pick a different branch of the United States Armed forces if I'm in the United States Marine corps!?"

The modern soldier quiets down and composes himself unless he wanted to become a center of attention from people passing by the alleyway. Arthur Brown thought about what branch he should choose from the menu, and he begins to remember that the Coast Guard was specialized in combat, search and rescue. 

Sergeant Arthur Brown selected the Coast Guard and noticed that there were a medic, infantry and heavy and engineer, which was sort of similar selection from War Horizon.

"I probably should pick some of the classes that should be appropriate for this quest." Arthur Brown said to himself while clicking medic class than two infantrymen's classes, and afterward a heavy class, a sudden menu screen appears in front of him to confirm his choice, and he clicks yes and something that Arthur Brown never expected to happen happened.

4 figures consisting of 2 females and 2 males, started to generate right before his eyes, and the soldiers soon saluted at Arthur Brown with their Chin up, chest out, shoulders back and stomach in, at attention next to each other in a line.

"Coast Guard Ready for Duty!" A 6 foot tall, dark skin male soldier said to Arthur Brown as the group of soldiers was at attention with serious faces and eyes looking straight forward.

The modern soldier saluted to his units before a menu screen popped up in front of him again.

[Congratulations! You have maxed out your slots of available units!]

Arthur Brown closes the menu screen and he begins his order for his men that were wearing a full set of a black module, plate body armor and black enhanced combat helmet, and a dark blue digital color pattern clothing underneath.

"At ease soldiers! Right now, we have a search and rescue mission, that has something to do with a young boy and girl being kidnapped by a bunch of bandits."

Arthur Brown said to his soldiers that were in a parade rest position while looking at the modern soldier, in silence as they listen closely to their debrief.

"Permission to speak, sir!" A female soldier said that was 5 feet tall and had fair white skin.

"Permission granted." Arthur Brown responds.

"How many hostiles are we talking about here and what is their location, sir?"

"We do not know at the moment for sure, but I am informed of the bandits are always in a group." Arthur Brown replies to her and his men. 

"But for the time being it, lets head back to the Adventurer Guild and start from there."

Arthur Brown begins to leave the alleyway along with his unit, following behind him with their M4 rifles strapped over their shoulders. The modern soldiers were surprised by the village and the residents that live in the huge town. People took notice of the modern soldiers that were walking by, and they begin to whisper to one another about the stranger's clothing and equipment they had, especially their metal black sticks, they were carrying around themselves.

Soon the Guild door opens, which caught the attention of all the Guild Adventurer's inside, and there was silence among the crowd because they were speechless of what they were looking at. In their point of view, there was the modern soldier they saw earlier and a strange group of men and woman, wearing strange dark blue clothing and black armor and equipment as well as carrying a metal black stick, that they have never seen before. The receptionist girl noticed this from the distance and was surprised to see Arthur Brown with other strangers following him in a military fashion she has never seen before.

Arthur Brown stops in front of the receptionist, and he smiles at her, which made her feel unsettled for some reason.

"I would like to do the quest now."

The young girl took out the quest paper she reserved for Arthur Brown just in case if he ever came back with a group, but she didn't expect him to return so soon, especially with strangers, she has never seen before in the village.

"Are they also registered to the guild?"

Arthur Brown frowns at this when he realized that he had to pay 5 copper coins to each of his soldiers to register into the adventurer Guild, and in total, it was 20 copper coins. The girl soon gave each Coast Guard soldier a rank, tier-one badge, and ID cards. Many of the guild members that were in the background were whispering to one another about the strangers, with their get up and weird metal sticks and the equipment they had.

"All of you guys are rank tier one, but as long as you're in a group and have some experience, then I'm sure everything will be fine and work out, please be safe." The receptionist girl said to the group of modern soldiers and bows to them in a respectful farewell.

Arthur Brown and his unit saluted to the young girl before the group begins to exit the building with the modern soldier leading the way for them.

"Let's show these bandits what the military can do."

'3rd timer.' My face fell as I looked at the title.

All the theories I had thought about fell apart.

'If there is a 3rd timer, then does that mean there are fourth and fifth timer as well.' I thought 'What purpose do they serve. Why have they come back to life. Who did this to them?'

I knew who did this, who sent their souls back to the time when the apocalypse about to start.

It must have been the people who created the apocalypse in the first place. Who else could do such a thing.

But if so, then what do they want.

'Do they want us to survive?' No, they've already wiped out almost all of humanity. How can I even think that they want us to survive.

But if they don't want us to survive, then why send these 2nd and 3rd timers back and back again to fight in this apocalypse.

What is their goal?

A silent breeze passed by as I felt a faint chill on by body.

I had no answer to that question. I will probably never get the answer either.

'I guess there's no point in thinking about things that I understand.' I thought and closed Chen Li's profile.

After that, I used 50 1st tier crystals to buy 5 2nd tier ones.

The price was unfair. So was life. But who gives a fuck.

I ate 4 of the 5 crystals and kept 1 for later on.

After that, I sold all of the remaining crystals and got 688 white coins in return.

Upgrading my Basic Defensive Suit took 665 white coins. So in the end, I was only left with 13 white coins.

I opened the hologram and looked at the interface.

I looked at the Heavy Machine gun once again. No one has bought it so far. Well… I guess I have to be patient with such a thing.

I gave one last look to the horde and ran back to the town.

I wanted more crystals, so that I could upgrade my equipments and buy a skill book.

I also wanted to buy a new skill book for myself.

But I was too tired. Both mentally and physically.

I wanted more of everything, but not today. Not right now. And thus, I planned to go back and sleep.

It was still 3:00 am so the night was still dark, but I had Night Vision so such a thing would not stop me.

The return journey was uneventful. No stray abnormals. No mutant dogs. Nothing.

I landed on the rooftops and started my jumping routine.

I sneaked in a look at Big Bro and realized that he was still sleeping soundly.

As for the two bodyguards, they were talking about something. But from their expression, I could tell that they wanted to sleep as well.

'Well, I guess this is what ordinary men must do to earn more crystals.' I thought and broke into one of the empty house across the streets.

Those who cannot fight on their own must rely on the strong ones to live and become strong themselves.

At this point, almost all of the houses in the town were empty so I faced no problem in finding myself a good bed.

I laid on top of it and fall asleep before long.

'Ashok. Wake up. Wake up Ashok.' I heard a sound in my dreams. But after the sound persisted for a long time, I felt that something was wrong. When I realized such a thing, my dreamworld broke in an instant and I opened my eyes to meet a pair of large eyes with brown pupil.

"Sera?" I asked in puzzlement as I rubbed my eyes and hoped that I was not drooling in my sleep. That would be embarrassing. "What are you doing here?"

"Rahul is calling for you." She said.

"Rahul… umm… what time is it?"

"It's around 10:00 am in the morning." She replied. "He asked you to meet him as soon as possible."

"Is that so…" I looked around an asked "How did you know I was here?"

"The windows of this house were broken. Just like the past few houses. I got lucky that I found you sleeping here." She said.

So that's how it is. Well, it's not important.

"Let's go meet Rahul…" I said and was about to jump out of the window but realized that she was not following me. I looked at her in puzzlement and she replied.

"I cannot jump out of the window. I'll break my legs if I fall from such a height." She said "You go first. I'll walk out from the door."

Only then did I realize that she had not eaten any crystals, unlike me who had already eaten hundreds of them.

'Well, I guess I'll do something about that later on.'

"Climb on my back. We'll get there fast this way." I said and bent down on a knee as I motioned her to climb up.

"Huh!" she was a bit surprised by after considering it for a while, she climbed up on my back and I jumped out from the window to the roofs of the buildings.

Soon enough, I was standing before Rahul's room.

When I reached there, I found three guys sitting outside the room and having a conversation about crystals and abnormals.

I realized that all three of them were rather young and were holding some kind of weapon.

One was holding an axe, the other was holding a hammer and the last one was simply holding on to an iron rod.

I was sure that they would not able to kill any abnormal with a weapon like this.

But they were Rahul's new subordinates so I knew that they would become strong enough to face an abnormal pretty soon. If they don't die before that.

When I arrived in front of them, they all stopped talking and stood on the side with a fearful look in their eyes.

'What the hell are they so afraid of?' I thought but soon realized the reason.

I had not cleaned the Defensive suit when I came back so it was stained with blood and bit and pieces of organs.

There was a heavy stench of blood and death permeating around me.

The fact that they three were not running away in fear already showed that they were much braver than I had previously anticipated.

I walked inside the room, followed by Sera who was standing behind me now.

I entered the room and found that Rahul on a chair was sitting behind a large desk.

He was currently talking with a survivor whom I've never met before.

It was a middle aged guy who was wearing some old and torn clothes.

Seemed like he didn't get a good treatment in the survivor camp.

They were talking about something like electrical generator which was out of my area of expertise so I decided to not meddle in their affairs and stood beside the door for a while until Rahul asked the person to leave.

Rahul then stood up and looked at me with a gentle smile.

"You're hard to find little brother." He said.

"You slept on my bed, so I had to find some other place to sleep."

"Yeah… I guess it's my fault this time." Rahul said with an amused expression which then turned a bit serious.

"Come. I was waiting for you. We need to talk about something." Rahul said and rolled out a map on the table.

"Yesterday, I sent a person to keep an eye on the army base." Rahul said as he circled the area where the army camp was situated.

"Today, he told me that they had started to pack their supplies and were getting ready to move." He said "My guess is that they want to make this town as their permanent base and are getting ready to move."

"So, are we going to leave this place?" I asked in a calm manner. But even though I showed a calm facade, I felt a bit sad and powerless over the fact that we were being chased out of our own town.

This was my hometown after all.

"Yes. But don't think too much about it." Rahul said "I never intended to stay for too in this town in this town anyway."

"Then… what was your plan?" I asked.

Rahul took out another large map and spread it on top of the previous map and pointed at a dot in the map.

"Kolkata?" I asked in bewilderment "Why would we go there?"

It was about 1500 kilometers to the south-east from here. Even if that area is some kind of safe zone, it's still not worth it to travel so far in this apocalyptic time.

If we wanted to go there then we would have to literally cross half of the country before we reach there. That's a suicidal thing to do.

Rahul hesitated for a bit before saying "Your sister-in-law is there."

'Is she someone he met in his previous life?' I thought.

'If that was the case, then that would make sense, because Rahul never had any girlfriend as far as I knew.'

'That's right. Rahul never had any girlfriend.' I thought and looked at the Rahul in front of me and wondered if this person was really my big bro or not.

My mood dampened down a bit as I thought about it.

If the soul of this Rahul came from some other dimension, or some other time line, then doesn't that mean that my big bro's soul is already dead?

I didn't wanted to think about it anymore.

"Why are we still here?" I asked.

"Huh?" he looked at me in puzzlement.

"If my sister-in-law is in Kolkata, then why are we still here?" I asked. "Shouldn't we go there as fast as possible. Aren't you worried about her safety?"

His expression grew puzzled as he asked "Aren't you going to ask about your sister-in-law. When I met her? Or anything like that?"

I took a deep breath and smiled "The fact that you've not told me about her must mean that you must have planned to give us a surprise. Right?"

Rahul's expression faltered for a moment when he heard my words but he soon took control of it and shook his head with a smile "I guess you saw through my ruse then."

"Yes." I smiled "But you still haven't answered my question. Why are we still here?"

He looked at me for a long moment before he sighed and said "I've two reasons for why I'm still here."

"What are they?" I asked.

"First, is the promise I made to Gaurav." Rahul replied "I told him that I would wait for him for a week, so I cannot leave this place before the week is over."

"Second, your sister-in-law is not someone who need my protection."

'So that's how it is.' I thought 'Well, that makes sense, if sister-in-law was weak, then she would not have survived long enough to meet him in the past life.'

'But that still doesn't mean that we should leave her like that.'

"Why do you value Gaurav so much?" I suddenly asked as I thought of it.

"You know why. He may be old but he is far more capable than anyone else in here. He will be very valuable to the group." He replied "But his value has nothing to do with why I'm still here."

"…" I stared at him, waiting for his answer

"It had do with the promise I made him." Rahul said with a sigh "I do not break my promises. And you know it better than anyone else."

His words struck a chord in my heart.

'That's right. Now that I think about it, Big bro usually refrained from making promises, but when he did made a promise, he always did his best to fulfill it.'

I sighed as I thought about this thing.

I did not knew if this person was really my brother or not. And I felt torn about it. But I hid all those thoughts back in my heart.

"Does that mean that we'll stay here for four more days, until the week if over?" I asked "What about the army? If they moved in, they you're not planning to fight them are you?"

Rahul smiled and shook his head "No. And that's why I called you here."

"What does this has to do with me?" I asked in puzzlement. "Do you want me to sabotage their vehicles and lead the horde to them?"

Because that was something that I could totally capable of doing.

I had already defeated 50 of their members this way.

Dealing with the rest won't be all that different.

"No." Rahul shook his head and said "We have nothing to gain by fighting against them."

Rahul then pointed at a small dot in the map and said "This is Karnera. 80 kilometers to the north-east from here. This is where…"

"I remember it. It's Gaurav's son lived." I said "But what's the point of telling me about it."

"I want you to go there and bring him back." Rahul said "The faster you do this, the earlier we'll be able to leave from this town."

'I knew it.' I thought.

The moment he had taken out the map and started pointed at Karnera, I had already guessed that I would have to do something like this.

"Although I didn't like that old coot, I'll do it. I'll do it for sister-in-law." I said.

"Also, by the time you return, if we're not in the town, then go to Indari town. I'll hang a red flag at the top of the tallest building there, and you'll know where to go from there."

"Hmm… Indari town." I looked in the map and saw that the town was aligned with the highway and was about 35 kilometers to the south of our town. "I got it."

I didn't like the expression he was making and felt that he'd definitely misunderstood something. But I didn't bother to correct him. "Very well then. I'll take my leave now." I said and took a map from the table and turned to leave.

"Ashok…"

"Hmm…" I turned to look at him with questioning gaze.

"If you didn't find him in 3 days. Or… if he's dead, then come back." Rahul said.

"I'll do that." I said and turned to leave before he stopped me once again.

"And one more thing."

"What is it?" I asked.

"Try to collect as many white coins in your journey as possible. After you get a total of 10,000 white coins, I'll help you buy something that will increase your fighting skills exponentially."

"10,000 white coins." I stumbled a bit when I heard that. "Oi Rahul. How the hell am I supposed to collect so many white coins."

Rahul shook his head with a smile and said "I'm not asking you to collect all of them as fast as possible. Take your time and collect the coins at your own pace. Of course, the faster you're able to collect them, the faster your improvement will be."

"I understand. Anything else?" I asked.

"Yes." Rahul came from behind the table and hugged me tightly for a few seconds before he let go of me "Take care of yourself."

"I'm not a kid you know." I said in annoyance and went out of the room.

After getting out of the room, I met with Sera, who was standing right outside and explained everything to her.

She wanted to join me in the mission but I told her that it's going to be dangerous and she'll just be a burden.

Although she was feeling a bit down because of my harsh words, she understood the situation as well and said that she'll wait for my safe return.

After that, I went and met with Neha who was talking with some guy who was getting a bit too close to her.

I frowned when I looked at the boy He was about my age and had a handsome face.

And for some reason, I really wanted to punch him in the face.

"Neha. I'll be leaving town for a while." I said as I pulled her to the side.

"Why are you leaving?" She asked as she suddenly grew worried "Isn't it dangerous outside the town. And where are you going?"

"Calm down." I said and patted her head lovingly "I'm going to find an old man that your big bro wants in the team."

"Old man. Who?" Neha asked with confused look in her face.

"You won't know him." I said and shook my head "But he's a very capable guy. So he might be of use to the group."

"Is that so." Neha said in an attempt to show that she understood. But one look at her expression and you'll realize that she was even more confused now.

"Well… You don't need to worry about that." I said and hugged her gently for a few seconds before letting go of her. "I'll be back in a few days alright."

"Alright." She said and her eyes turned a bit red as she sniffed to stop her tears.

"I'll leave now." I said and patted her head one last time before I turned to look at the guy and gave him a 'very' hostile glare before turning around to leave.

'If he had any indecent plans for my little sister, then I will have to create a few accidents after I come back.' I thought 'There are so many dangers in this world. Wouldn't be very surprising if one or two people died and became some Abnormal's food.'

But, I don't think I need to worry about little Neha with Rahul around.

After I packed a few more water and food, I turned to North-east direction and started my journey.
