"Aspen," Rilian whispered breathlessly, "I. Want. You."
"Rilian…." I gasped.
"Please," he begged, "I know you're scared, but I will take the risk. I will keep us safe; please, let me do this one thing…."
I was at a loss for words. My heart was pounding uncontrollably.
"Wh-what is it?" I asked breathlessly.
Rilian grinned. "Let me take you on a date."

Aspen is a wolf-shifter in a vampiric society where wolves are not recognized, raised from childhood on a vampire feedlot. Rilian is a roguish street-punk vampire with torn-up jeans and a bad attitude. He's also the target for Aspen's test, his only chance to earn a title in vampiric society.

But when they are both trapped in a mine shaft, Aspen loses his last appeal and ends up back on the menu.
