Chapter 64: Invasion (4)

Long, long time ago, all the races on the continent lived in harmony, and of all the races, three were prominent: the beast race, proud of their strength; the elven race, proud of their knowledge of the arcane; and the demon race, proud of their ancient lineage.

These three races dominated their respective kingdoms, which included many races, but then a race began to change that—the human race.

That race began expanding at a rapid pace; in a century, they conquered a lot of territory, fearing for their lands and their people. The three races united against this new race.

Unfortunately, the demon race was naive; they were betrayed by the other two. The demon race didn't know that they were jealous of them; the beast race was jealous of their strength, and the elven race was jealous of their knowledge in the arcane.

They colluded with the new race to bring down the demon race, which they did. In only a couple of years, most of the demon lands were divided between the betrayer's and the human race.

They successfully brought the demon race to the brink of extinction. The king didn't have any other choice; he prayed to our god day and night.

We sacrificed everything to get an opportunity to retaliate and regain our land, and our god answered. He opened up a portal to another land. In this land, the demon race thrived and lived in peace for a couple of centuries, getting stronger.

We didn't forget the betrayal and genocide of our race; they will pay.

********************

In a cave close to the now-destroyed mountain range, two individuals were around a campfire. One was a female figure; she was on the ground, stiff and without a spark of life in her eyes.

The other was a man dressed as a typical mage; this man was reading a strange dark-green book.

"I can't...did they seriously believe in this crap?"

Isaac was reading the memories of the demon that he captured.

"It is clearly a publicity stunt, but they seriously believed it."

*Sigh*

The history of the demon race was more like an indoctrination book used to mold the minds of the young demons into hatred for all other races.

"Tch, even the hierarchy and orders are messed up."

The king was an absolute ruler; no one questioned his decisions or motives, and dead was guaranteed if they did. As for the orders, they were precise and vague at the same time.

"Destroy and kill everything until you reach the capital of the kingdom, huh?"

Isaac looked at his prisoner.

A 5'3 ft woman with light red skin and dark hair was lying on the ground without moving an inch. She was wearing standard hide armor along with braces and boots.

"According to her memories, horns only grow up when they're older as a symbol of power; hmm, that means that she is young."

He continued reading the memories, and then he made an alarming discovery...

(Shit!)

He immediately stood up and bolted out of the cave, running as far away as possible from the cave.

(Who would have thought that she was the granddaughter of a demon Viscount...)

The demons were divided into social status: the lowest of the demons were called commoners, followed by Barons, then Viscounts, Earls, Marquesses, Dukes, Grand Dukes and lastly the ruler of them all the King.

Each title was earned by force: meaning by combat, after all only the strongest survive in thier society.

(Interesting, since the time they abandon this continent there has been only one demon holding the title of King.)

{Nevermind that!}

Isaac keep running south.

(The probability of a rescue party coming for her is high.)

After 30 minutes of Isaac running out of the cave...

Inside the cave...

*Thud* *Thud* *Thud* *Thud*

"We found her, sir." (???)

Four demons wearing impressive armor filled to the brim with runes and enchantments were surrounding the catatonic demon.

*Tap*

"Her mind was tempered by a skilled entity"(???)

One of the demons wearing an obsidian robe and a creepy staff touched her forehead.

"Hm?, not a human?" (???)

One of the demons asked, confused of her statement.

"No, it is impossible for a human to destroy the enchantment of our lord without destroying the mind in the process."

The robe demon answered confidently.

"It doesn't matter; pack her up; we are leaving in five!."(???)

A demon wearing onyx plate armor interjected in the conversation.

"Yes, commander!" (???)×2

*Huff* *Huff* *Huff*

A few hundreds of miles south of the cave, Isaac was catching his breath, lying flat on the ground.

(Even this far away, I can feel that viscose and dark energy.)

{The ones who came to get her are no joke; they could probably kill me in a few seconds}

*Sigh*

"I'm still lacking...ha, ha, ha, ha,"

Isaac started to laugh uncontrollably on the ground. After a while, he calmed himself and stood up.

"Well, let's finish this dungeon."

He looked at the blue screen in front of him.

[Dungeon Quest's]

[Save the trapped soldiers on the Fort.] ✓

[Eliminate or capture the demon threat] ✓

[Prevent the horde from reaching the capital]

[Hidden Quest's]

[Collect any intel about the Demon Threat]✓

[Discover the Traitor on Fort Gorn]

"Hmm, although the demon that leadered is gone, the horde is still active. Well, better get going."

**************************************

In Fort Gorn.

Preparations to receive the horde were in full swing, and now with Commander Braza on the helm, all was a little easier.

"What happened in the Fort, Braza?" (Commander Thorn)

Both commanders were on top of the gates, surveying the front of the fort.

"Chaos, Thorn, is the only way I can describe it; we were ready to receive them just like you are right now, but something wasn't right..."(Commander Braza)

He turned around to look Thorn in the eyes.

"Even before the horde arrived, monsters were already inside the fort, but not any kind of monsters; instead, they were demonized monsters..."(Commander Braza)

He walked to the edge, reaching the stone rail, and looked inside the fortress.

There, people were coming and going—some laughing, others worried.

"By the time we found out about them, the barrier protecting the fort vanished, and then the horde hit(Commander Braza).

An awkward silence followed his story.

Commander Thorn could not believe what he was hearing, but all evidence points to it being true. But in doing so, many questions arrived: how the monsters infiltrated?, how they knew what the core of the barrier was?, how come nobody saw anything? Like that, many questions pop out.

One thing could be certain: there was a traitor in our ranks.

Chapter 65: Invasion (5)

It's been two days since Commander Braza and his soldiers came to Fort Gorn, and at last everything was ready.

Now all they had to do was wait for the horde to arrive, but that was not all. Some secret orders were given to specific individuals due to the recent information provided by the commander.

"Look for any suspicious activity and report back."

The order was vague on propose in case the traitor had any associates on their ranks, and patrols were more frequent around the Fort.

Around noon on the third day, the alarm was triggered.

*Ting* *Cling* *Ting* *Cling*

... immediately everyone on the fort took their positions, and the two commanders positioned themselves on top of the front gates.

"So this is it..." (Commander Thorn)

He saw the thousands upon thousands of monsters that were running towards the fort at full speed, almost as if they were running from something.

"Yes, don't get distracted; as we planned, I will go inside..."(Commander Braza)

He also saw this, but he thought it was just natural for monsters to attack, or maybe the demon leader ordered them to do that.

"Understood"(Commander Thorn)

Inside the Fort...

Commander Braza was moving directly to a specific place, with everyone saluting and moving out of his way as he passed by.

Protecting an air of calmness and confidence on his way, but inside of him, he was everything except calm.

(Where is that f*cking rat?)

(I swear by the goddess I will kill him!) (Commander Braza)

The closer he was to his destination, the more angry he became.

(I will not let you escape this time!) (Commander Braza)

*Tap* *Tap* *Tap*

His boots were loud in the empty hallways, then he notice.

(Where is everyone?) (Commander Braza)

He looked left and right, but nobody was around.

(Impossible! Where are the patrols and guards!?) (Commander Braza)

With more quick steps, he ran through his destination, which was the safe room for the nobels and families that lived on the Fort and it's surroundings.

**********************

"So that's Fort Gorn, huh?"

Isaac, on top of another giant golem made out of soil and rocks, was chasing the horde.

*Ting* *cling* *Ting* *Cling*

He could hear bells ringing all over the fort.

(Probably some sort of signal.)

He watched as the horde collided with the barrier around the fort. From above the walls, archers and mages were attacking and casting spells left and right.

*Bang* *Crash* *Boom*

But then something caught him off guard...

*Clang*

*Flang*

*Fiuuu~*

...a giant metal ball was launched out of one of the catapults of the towers; its direction was where he was standing, or more specifically, it was directed at his golem.

(Right, if I also saw a huge golem with a horde of monsters, I would do the same.)

*Sigh*

"Punch it"

Isaac ordered his golem to punch the metal ball that was coming directly at them.

*Growl*

The golem moved its body, putting its right foot backwards and its left foot forward, then its giant right arm was moved backwards. It waited for the perfect time, and when the metal ball was in range, it moved its arm along with its hip, gaining massive momentum.

*CLANK*

*BANG**BAng**Bang**bang*

The metal ball was punched directly into the horde below them; it bounced a couple of times.

*Gia* *Grrr* *Guaagh*

Thanks to that, a couple hundred monsters were killed without their even noticing.

"Ho, ho,ho,ho, that's no ordinary golem, Commander!" (Mage Cron)

"...I can see that Cron"(Commander Thorn)

At the top of the gates, the Commander and the Mage were looking at the giant golem that they believed was the boss of this horde.

"Sir, your orders!" (Soldier)

A soldier came running from the left tower of the fort.

"Well, it is smart enough to deflect our attack..."(Mage Cron)

He peaked below, then looked at his commander.

"...at the cost of its allies (Mage Cron)

Commander Thorn was worried not only for the giant golem in front of him but also because Commander Braza hasn't sent any response since he left.

"How do we eliminate it?" (Commander Thorn)

He resolved to tackle one problem at a time.

"Ho, ho, distract it a little bit; I need some time (Mage Cron), he confidently said.

"You hear him(Commander Thorn) He looked at his soldier.

"Yes sir!" (Soldier)

*Growl*

*BANG*

*Growl*

*BANG*

*Growl*

*BANG*

Isaac was using this misunderstanding to kill a lot of monsters that were attacking the fortress; ball after ball was falling into the ground. The monsters didn't know what to do; without their leader, they were just mindless beasts.

(Huh?, this feeling?)

In the middle of these actions, Isaac felt something inside the fortress, making him lose sight of his surroundings for a split second.

"[Seismic Toss]"(Mage Cron)

Coincidentally, the mage Cron used one of his more powerful spells, the ground beneath the golem started to bulge.

*GROWL*

It lost its balance, but that wasn't all.

*CRACK*

The ground started to split apart, and from there, some huge rocks started to come out.

*RAWRGH*

These rocks launched the giant golem backwards with such force that the golem flew 60 feet into the air.

*BOOM* *CRASH* *BANG*

The golem crashed into the ground; its right leg was destroyed, along with his left hand, and it stopped moving at all.

At the same time...

**KABOOM**

...a huge dark red energy explosion destroyed the interior of the fortress, killing at least half of the forces inside it, if not all of them.

********************

*Cough* *Cough*

"What the f*ck happened!?" (Commander Thorn)

Due to the explosion, many soldiers were scattered all over the fortress, and a huge dust cloud was blinding all of them from seeing inside.

*Cough*

"A dark energy burst out of the fortress, Thorn..."(Mage Cron)

He came out of the dust cloud looking a little bit weaker; after all, casting a huge spell and then protecting himself from the explosion drained him a lot.

*Aggh*

"My leg..." (Soldier)

*Awwgh*

"My arm..." (Mage)

*Tap* *Tap*

Despite all the growling and moaning of the soldiers and mages hurt by the explosion, a set of footsteps could be clearly heard.

"Cron..."(Commander Thorn)

*Shink*

He immediately pulled out his sword.

*Tap* *Tap* *Tap*

*Cough*

"Yeah.."(Mage Cron)

He pull out a ruby wand and pointed at the set of footsteps.

*Tap* *Tap* *Tap*

From the epicenter of the explosion, someone came out; it had a humanoid figure, but it was definitely not human.

It was at least 10 feet tall, with blue skin, dark red eyes, grey hair, a couple of long and pointy horns on its head, two long bat-like wings on its back, and long extremities.

Now that the figure was close, they could hear something else...

*Graggh* *Gagh*

Another figure was beside it, but this figure was being choked with its right hand. When the Commander and the Mage saw this figure, they quickly recognized it.

"Braza!(Commander Thorn, Mage Cron)
