Two years later
Turquoise Villa, Houston.
The wind was still and the ocean was tranquil, reflecting the colours of the resplendent sunset that was a brilliant mixture of red and orange with the touch of a gorgeous pink. Most of the flowers had their petals lowered preparing themselves for bedtime, not forgetting to leave an alluring scent in the atmosphere while the birds were seen flying in two's and three's below the beautiful sunset.
In the pond directly behind the vast field of flowers and trees, the goldfishes, carps and shrimps were swimming happily without a care in the world beside the corals and the gray and black pebbles. The water from the pond was flowing downhill, trickling and making rippling sounds through carefully placed rocks making a mini waterfall which stretched towards the end of villa.
Standing at the edge of an octagonal, open-aired balcony was a beautiful girl wearing a white lacy backless sundress. Her platinum blonde layered wavy hair coloured with silver highlights was let loose over her shoulders and covered her bare back to her waist making the sexy sundress appear modest. Placing her elbows on the modern balcony guardrail, Penny closed her eyes when the ocean breeze caressed her face and let out a satisfied sigh while basking in the afterglow of the sun marking the end of the day. 
With the rays of the colourful sunset dying her white dress and making her platinum blonde hair highlighted with silver seem to have a touch of rose gold and the colours of flowers of different varieties as her backdrop, Penny appeared to be iridescent and ethereal. At least that's what Cy thought when he walked into balcony.
It was dinnertime and ever since they moved here two years ago, it was a ritual for them to eat together, so he was looking for her. But he didn't expect her to be standing there looking extremely beautiful. Going into dreamland, he imagined himself walking up to her, placing his palm on her waist to pull her towards himself and hugging her from behind before placing light kisses on her hair, both her shoulders, cheeks and last of all her .......
His imagination was cut off by Penny's beautiful voice, "Why are you just standing there Cy? It's been almost 5 minutes" she said with her eyes still closed and her back facing Cy.
Breaking out of his reverie, Cy smiled and walked towards Penny before also leaning on the guardrail, "Why aren't you coming in for dinner?", he asked while looking at the setting sun and the beautiful scenery it created with its lustrous colours.
Opening her eyes, Penny asked,"Is that all?"
"What?", asked Cy confused.
"Standing there for close to 5 minutes, is that all you wanted to ask or.....tell me?", Penny asked before turning towards Cy with a smile on her face.
Cy wished Penny didn't turn to look at him as he almost blurted out his innermost thoughts when he saw her light blue eyes mixed with a hint of black at the iris, petite nose and her irresistible smile. Her eyes which appeared to reflect the colours of the flowers and sunset made him wonder if she had sectoral heterochromia. Taking deep breaths Cy reminded himself not to have fantasies about Penny for the nth time while repeating, 'She's like your sister!' severally in his mind, totally shutting the voice that kept telling him, 'Well, she's not your biological sister!'.
When he saw Penny raising her eyebrows inquisitively, Cy hurriedly straightened up.
"Uh… I… I..I was just…not…expecting you to be..so beautiful...I mean to be..here! I just wanted to remind you to come pretty, I mean…eat! " said Cy while raising his hand to scratch his silky brown hair.
Looking at Cy still stammering and falling over his words as usual, Penny chuckled before linking her arm with his and looking him in the eye, "Come on, let's go." she said making Cy seem like he was electrocuted. Seeing his shocked look, Penny chuckled one more time before pulling him back into the villa and towards the dining room while Cy's line of sight remained on their linked arms.
At the dining table, Avi was setting the last of the dishes when she heard footsteps and looked up to meet Penny's gentle smile and Cy's shocked face. Raising her eyebrows, Avi cleared her throat while giving Cy a knowing smile which made him quickly unlink his arms from Penny. Coughing to hide his embarrassment, Cy made his way to the kitchen to wash his hands…again but the little tinge of red on his ears did not escape Avi's sight which made her smile brighter.
'Like your little sister my foot', she thought.
Looking at the table covered with plates filled with lasagna, lamb chops, Italian pasta, chicken curry, casserole, chicken roast, macaroni and cheese, braised pork and a chocolate cheesecake sitting right in the middle of it all, Penny and Timmy gulped noisily.
"They smell wonderful Avi!", Penny exclaimed before quickly sitting to reach for the lasagna.
"Have I ever told you how much I love your cooking, Avi?", Timmy asked while also reaching to take a piece of the lamb chops. 
However, .....
'PAH' 'PAH'
Avi hit the back of their hands mercilessly before they could even reach the plates.
"Ouch!", they both yelled.
"Thank you, Penny and Yes you have Timmy, severally", Avi said replying to both their remarks.
"Now, go wash your hands!", she continued. Just then Cy walked out of the kitchen. "Look at Cy, he's washed his hands twice this evening and still he washed it again just now but you, you won't even clean yourselves properly before you eat! Now, Get up and go wash those hands!"
"Yes mum", Timmy replied sarcastically before heading to the kitchen while Penny glanced at Cy before going after Timmy.
When Cy had another eye contact with Penny and almost hit his foot on the chair that was right in front of him, Avi chuckled earning Cy's glare.
"So, 'Penny's older brother', why have you been stuttering and stumbling a lot lately, especially when Penny's around you?", Avi asked rather sarcastically while making air quotes with her fingers when she said 'older brother'.
"I don't know what you are talking about", Cy said before looking elsewhere guiltily. 
"Oh, I just thought that since you take Penny as your 'younger sister' you'd be more 'comfortable' around her", Avi replied, still making air quotes. She still remembered how Cy lashed out at her when she asked him this question a year ago, not believing his sermon about how much he cares for her as an older brother, she began to observe him where she realized that his words and his actions were totally different. An example is what happened earlier that day, who'd blush when making eye contact with their 'younger sister'?, so she decided to tease him a bit.
"Avika Iris Dawson!, you....", Cy who was about to bite back, kept quiet when Penny and Timmy returned and sat at the table. Glaring at Avi one last time who stuck her tongue out to him, he made his way to the chair beside Timmy and opposite Penny but Avi quickly and 'unintentionally' sat beside Timmy. "OMO, did you want to sit here?, I really didn't know but you could sit beside Penny though, you don't mind right?", Avi said cheekily.
"Yeah, come sit here Cy at least I can have some peace and quiet for once today." Penny said tapping the chair beside her before giving Avi an exasperated look. 
Cy:"....."
Hence, dinner began with Cy 'reluctantly' sitting beside Penny but his little cheeky smile didn't escape Avi's eagle eyes.

I and Noah were reunited in Miami. Since then, he asked me to move back to Los Angeles. At first I disagreed, but then Lily brain –washed me.
So, I ended up taking a bachelor in Los Angeles and working in Hoskins' Company. I still take trips sometimes, like twice a year or during weekend. So far my life is great here in Los Angeles, even though the media is busy with the news but Noah covers me up. I still refuse to attend any talk –shows, maybe one day I should.

The world is freaking out, Rony is freaking out, my sisters are freaking out, Lily knows everything so she's not freaking out. Cara, Jane and James  become my close friends in Los Angeles. James is dating Jane, I can't believe they finally date ! I mean, they are match made in heaven !

Oh speaking of the devil.

"HEY !!! I'M COMING !!!" screamed Jane as she rushed towards me and Cara. We have been waiting for them for an hour.

"What the f**k are you two doing huh? You are an hour LATE !!" moaned Cara.

One Day in California is my first work, I want to apologize if there's any weak language you might hard to understand.

Here are the specific descriptions of the character.

Steffi : Steffi was born in Indonesia, her sisters too. Steffi has a pair of monolid dark brown eyes, a button nose, a thin lips and yellow skin. She has a long black hair, but then she cut them short during her vacation, grew her hair back until the last chapter. 

Rony : is a tall and handsome Indonesian, he has a fair skin, a pointed nose and a pair of big eyes. He is wearing glasses anyway, mostly appeared in tidy shirt and pants. 

Lily : a cute woman, she has a pair of thick eyebrows and eyelashes, a pair of beautiful eyes. She is very cheerful and energic.

Noah : of course Noah is 8 cm taller than Rony, Noah was born in Italy, he is half Italian anyway. He has a curly dark –brown hair, thick eyelashes and eyebrows, a pair of hazel eyes, and a pointed nose. He is about 185 cm tall. 

Cara : is a half African –American, she is pretty tall like about 175 cm. She has curly black hair, pointed nose, a pair of beautiful eyes and sexy lips. She is hot in lipsticks. Hehe. But she is not that feminine, so she hates lipstick.

Jane : is a petite woman with red hair. She is very beautiful and damn good in singing.  

James : a Swedish born. James is very tall, like about 188 cm, he has golden hair and a pair of beautiful eyes too. 

Cindy and Clara : they are identical twins, Cindy has a tiny mole on her nose and Clara doesn't. They are the queen bees during their High School. 

This story is inspired by marriage of Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso.

Blue turned the past mode off in her system. She was hoping in another type of dream. A type were she could see her long lost happy past. She yearned for those memories of her parents, from when they were still alive. Its been eleven years since that dreadful day. They died in a car crash on her eight birthday. Since then Blue never truly laughed and she also neither lied to anyone anymore. Because when she was eight she had feigned sickness in order to get her favorite toy. Blue was feeling a bit lonely so she wanted to dream of that past even If it was painful. 

The night was still young when Blue went to sleep, amidst her feverish dreams of the past one was clearly remembered by her when she actually woke up. 
The  feverish dream it  was the  story of a black starry  wolf with jet black eyes and  a pure white angelic rabbit with ruby colored eyes. 
As the story processed she found herself in stunningly beautiful bucolic scenery. Three elements ruled in the area. A crystal clear blue lake, a vivid green forest and the crossroad. She instinctively knew that one road lead to the wolf and the other to the rabbit.Both rather enchanting creatures that were full of charisma. The idea of meeting either of them made her tremble with excitement, which one too choose she was confused.So  she  sat right in the middle of the crossroad admiring the beauty of the scene.

Suddenly she heard a voice that was coming from the clear blue sky. "You must choose hurry up...". As the authoritive voice nudged her to choose, she had no choice she stood up and paid attention  to the roads once again. 

The wolf was beautiful but a bit scary so she thought "I will go to the rabbits way. Rabbits are cute and harmless after all ". 
As she was about to make the first step she woke up from her dream drenched in sweat and feeling exhausted. 

"What a weird dream ". Blue thought. 
It left a deep impression  in her. The black starry  wolf with his enchanting eyes and the pure white rabbit with his ruby red eyes. 
" How do I know this details I never saw them in my dream ".she wondered. 

Anyway it was time for work and she was getting a bit late, so she quickly got dressed and off the door to her car. 
She had a small cute orange car. Orange was not her favorite color, but when her parents were still alive, loved this color so much, that  they bought this car for Blue's eighteen birthday. The car was old but still Blue acquired it only last year. She was 19 this  year, quite young but quite capable.

Blue had earned her psychology degree in the previous 4 years and was about to enter on a new field in programming. 

Blue was a stunning beauty, her blue black hair her cherry like lips and her almond color eyes made her seem like a doll. However in all these years she had never fallen in love. Blue knew what love was, she had learned it from old world books, and she deeply yearned for it.

 The books mysteriously started appearing in her inventory when she was eight the first one was actually given to her on her eight birthday. The day her parents died she never read that one. However, in her inventory she had the world's biggest treasure of books, songs, quotes and art that accumulated all these years. Those gave her the courage needed to continue living, those gave her hope. 

She was sure she would find it one day this so called love she was sure. What she did not expect that today would be the day that the small God of love would pierce her heart. 

Blue was working as a cashier today. It was her  part time job in order to earn merit points. It was one of the boring professions that the government thought it needed a human touch to please the customer. So here she was on her job trying to be pleasant. 
When here comes the chief cashier with a boy that looked her age. 

The boy was so handsome he had jet black hair and eyes. He was the classic handsome guy that looks like a model. A bit thin and quite tall. He wore a white shirt and black pants accompanied by black boots. Blue was stunned and her heart started beating a bit faster  . 
The chief cashier that was accompanying him introduced them. 

When blue touched his hand she was electrified she closed her eyes and she  actually made an inaudible moan. The boy was staring wildly with his eyes suddenly widen. 
"She was beautiful indeed  "he thought" but quite odd." 

Blue suddenly turned the other way smiled a bit and thought "I bet this is how love feels".
The boy and the chief were wondering . What has actually happened why does she act so strange. 

Blue turned again towards them and said boldly " Do not worry Chief I will take care of him."

• Prologue •

As the young woman stared down at the brightly lit city, bustling with life even so late into the night, her slender fingers absentmindedly touched the diamond necklace on her throat. It was a heavy thing; not because of how many diamonds it had but because of its implications and how expensive it was.

Instead of a simple necklace, it felt like a noose around the neck to her.

She ignored the stifling feeling, continuing to gaze outside. Mind and body already tired from acting so aloof and unapproachable.

The city of Verosa was a mega-metropolis, and it was a sprawling, thriving place with a population of millions. The entertainment and business industries were at their peak here, and people would often come here with dreams and aspirations, their spirits burning.

She herself had grown up in a small town with loving parents and a younger brother whom she smothered with love, coddling him till he was a spoiled brat.

She stood alone beside the huge window and because of the atmosphere around her, no one approached her. 

Many women had noticed that beautiful necklace around her slender neck, the workmanship was extremely fine, and just looking at it made their faces green with envy.

Wasn't that necklace the only unique piece from Ananya's newest theme of jewellery, Nazakat?

The spokesperson for Ananya was even the most popular female star currently, Lianne Bowei! And even she had only gotten to wear this piece once when the jewellery had been released, and that too had been for an extremely short period of time!

Envy.

How could they not envy this woman?

Seeing her touch it so casually and absentmindedly was making all the rich heiress's teeth itch. Looking at her more carefully, they noticed that although the dark maroon dress she wore looked low key, the cut and design were beyond exquisite.

Fine gold threads had been weaved in to make beautiful flowers that resembled hydrangeas, and real diamonds had been used as the centre of those flowers so that they shimmered at the slightest movement.

The woman seemed extremely beautiful too. A pity though that a mask covered her face and there was no one who recognised her either.

The bright streetlights, headlights of cars and the lights from the entertainment centre of the city lit up the place. She had stayed in this city for three years already, but this was the first time she had felt and seen for herself how beautiful Verosa was.

She wondered how beautiful the harbour would look from so high up, but unfortunately, the building was built towards the centre of the city between other skyscrapers and she couldn't see even a hint of the sea.

The cool wine in her hand had warmed, the droplets condensed on the glass making her palms clammy.

She looked at all the people's gathered in circles as they talked of business; mergers, acquisitions and stocks. The woman complimented others on their perfect hair, makeup, dresses and jewellery. Each trying to outshine the other as they spoke of their perfect lives.

Each and every move of theirs, so arrogant, showy and pretentious, sickened her.

Why had she even come?

She knew the answer and lamented glumly at her circumstances.

Her best friend had tricked her into coming, giving her the invitation. Thankfully her best friends elder brother had gotten held back by something and would not become. All she had to do was make an appearance, and quickly escape when it was time.

Currently, her best friend was attending a heavy metal concert with painted face and ripped clothes that would make the paparazzi and public go crazy if they found out. The daughter of the hotel industry tycoon unexpectedly had such a heavy taste in music, despite her petite frame and sweet features.

'Only once! Promise!' Her friends pouting face came to mind as she had begged her. Promising her freshly made deserts by her family's chef that couldn't be found elsewhere or bought with money.

Suddenly, a voice interrupted her deep thoughts and a really handsome man entered her vision.

Handsome enough that he could beat the current top male model...

"May I stand here?"

Hearing his voice that was so deep yet soft at the same time, she felt her ears turning warm and flushing.

"No!"

At this response, the man's expression fell, his clearly warm smile turning awkward.

"That's not what I meant... I mean... that, I, uh—"

She tried to smooth over the awkwardness but in her nervousness and panic, she had made the situation worse, fumbling over her words and action.

The woman who had seen the incredibly handsome man walk up to her had been extremely jealous, and seeing her actions they sneered and whispered amongst themselves.

"Turns out, she's just a vase made of good material, but lacking any finesse!" One of the older, married women sneered. Her evaluation of the young woman was made by comparing her with a vase, for that was exactly how much she deemed the young woman worth.

"Isn't that Adam Ellison? What's he doing walking up to her? Isn't he already..."

The young woman had heard clearly all the jeers and insults that they didn't even try to hide. She felt for a moment like misusing her authority and background but held back.

"I mean, of course, you can stand here if you wish to."

"I'm not so interested in standing here as I am in the person standing here."

In an extremely smooth way, Adam Ellison had made clear his intentions, as he said in a low tone.

Unable to hold back, the young woman blushed uncontrollably. This was the first time someone had ever been so direct to her.

"Really? I would say I'm a pretty boring person." She said, trying to be nonchalant and graceful as if she thought nothing of his direct thoughts.

"Well, your reaction certainly can't be surmised as 'boring'." He made air quotes as he said so, making her mask of stoic nonchalance crack immediately.

"Pfft." She laughed.

Air quotes? Seriously?

Adam Ellison was at a loss as he looked at the woman laughing at his expense, wondering what had made her laugh. He hadn't really said anything funny, though?

Looking at her laugh so freely, so differently from every other woman he had encountered in this party, he was more than just a little intrigued by her. The women here laughed with practised poise, their smiles perfected to look graceful and ladylike and appropriate for the occasion.

In the end, each smile was the same as other and Adam Ellison just didn't want to deal with the fairness of it all. Then he had noticed this woman standing alone by the window, the aura around her so unapproachable.

Most importantly, she wasn't surrounded by a gaggle of giggling women and she wasn't forcing a smile for someone else. This had made him approach her.

Seemed like it was the right choice after all.

"You're quite interesting." The words had already slipped from her mouth before she realised.

"Not as interesting as you." He replied with a cheeky smile.

They smiled at each other, and although he couldn't see her face, he felt that she was incredible beauty that would make all the women here lose their shine.

"I just noticed that you seemed particularly lonely here all by yourself. Thought I'd accompany you."

"Ah, it's just because I don't particularly belong here." Maybe it was because of his warm smile and kind brown eyes, she felt like she could reveal everything about herself to him.

"Don't belong?" His brows furrowed as he pondered over her words.

"Think nothing of my words, I tend to speak too much. I debate a lot after all."

"You must like getting into arguments." He joked, staring at the beautiful night skyline.

"Of course not. I'm a proper lady through and through!" She said those words with mock horror and an exaggerated expression and tone.

Like this, more than two hours passed by, with them bantering back and forth like this. In the end, they had learned a lot about each other.

Their bubble was broken when the host walked up the podium to thank everyone once again.

During the speech, Adam realised that he had never asked the young woman for his name.

"Asking this is embarrassing after having talked for so long... but what's your name? I am Adam Ellison."

He's who?!

The young woman was shocked for a moment. He was Adam Ellison and wasn't he already...

She looked at his ring finger where lay a low key platinum ring that she hadn't seen throughout the night.

"Adam!"

Suddenly a woman's voice interrupted them. The voice was sweet and mature, and unwilling to see the woman who most probably already owned Adam Ellison's heart, she looks down.

In two hours, Adam Ellison had his wrapped around his fingers. She had never considered her to be so fickle, but to have started liking someone after such a short while...

She felt pain in her heart at the thought of him with another woman. A pain that was utterly ridiculous.

What feelings could sprout in two hours? It was ridiculous!

She berated and mocked herself in her mind, ripping at her own budding feelings.

"You can call me Cinderella."

With one last witty reply, she turned around and almost ran towards the elevator. Making her escape while he was caught up. Although he tried to follow her, he was unable to catch up to her and watched as her car left the hotel premises with regrets in his heart.

For the woman, the feelings that had bloomed so suddenly would just not die so easily, which she realised a day later, still thinking of a certain man's charming smile, voice and humour.

"Cinderella, please don't take him away. He is all I have, I love him a lot. So, please..."

Father Ahmadi told Nayla with gentle caring voice and looked at Mother Ahmadi. 

 "You know she looks likes you when on our wedding day, I couldn't take my eyes off you" 

He looked at mother Ahmadi with a teasingly look. 

Mother Ahmadi smiled, she knows how happy father Ahmadi was after all their eldest daughter was their symbol of love and togetherness even though they had two sons before Nayla but this daughter was special to them, mother Ahmadi even gave her a middle name in the name of love towards her husband. "Aruba" which means "Loves her husband" in the ancient sacred language Arabic. 

"Let's not delay the wedding, My dear Aruba is very eager to meet her husband to be." Mother Ahmadi said mirthfully. 

Nayla bowed her head bashfully when her mother was teasing. What could she say yes, nah so embarrassing? (〃艸〃)

But before they could go out, the siblings barged into the room and started making noises, it became a very lively environment removing the awkward situation Nayla was in.  

"You look, beautiful sis, like a fairy out of this world" with sparkling eyes Naziha looked her beautiful elder sister, 

A cute 16-year girl came into the room, she looked adorable, that was Nayla's younger sister Naziha, the youngest and most adorable one in the family. 

As result, she was the most lively one too. Despite having a completely different personality the two sisters got along really well.


"Well, of course, she looks beautiful because she is my sister, with my handsomeness, how can my sister not look beautiful!" Amir said, Nayla's second brother, with a smug on his face.

 But in return, Adil smacked his head, with no change in his expression " She is beautiful because she is my sister" Adil, Nayla's eldest brother, claimed without a bit of shame. 

Nayla looked at her family with emotions arousing deep within her, she will miss them. This was her family, but it was so hard to express those emotions.

 She will eternally be grateful to God for giving her such a wonderful family. 

"Hey, let's take pictures, this is my new model, the newest Aruba technologies invention, it's so good." Naziha excitedly got her beautiful device out.

 The brothers looked at Nayla with a knowing look when Naziha mentioned about the device. without any delay, they started to take pictures. 

But siblings will always be siblings so they started to argue about which angle Nayla looked more beautiful. 


Mother Ahmadi started laughing whiling looking at her children's antics.

She looked at husband with pride, their families biggest treasure was togetherness and all her children represent that. 

Even though Nayla and Amir were less lively than the other two children of hers but each of her children loved each deeply, their deep emotions and connections kept them together.  

They couldn't daily the wedding so Nayla and family started to proceed towards the wedding hall. 

When they were walking towards the wedding hall, all the guests and cousins looked at the breathtaking bride, no one could take their eyes off her. 

As the holographic flower; white, red all sorts of rose petals fall in alley welcoming the bride, it made Nayla look enchanting, it attracted many attentions. 

The holographic invention was one of the advancements in technologies as people started to look after nature, they found ways to keep wildlife and nature safe so the earth could be a safe place to live in as the world has changed so much over the centuries.  

Nayla approached the designated area for the bride and grom. 

Some couldn't keep themselves quite and started discussing.  

"Oh my the eldest daughter is so pretty"

"Maybe they kept her hidden for so long as she is too pretty, someone will take her without their knowledge."

Everyone watched the bride walk the alleyway with her family, they felt happy for her even though she wasn't their daughter, the looked at her emotionally as if their daughter was getting married.

Amber hasn't just got tears in her eyes. She's full-blown crying. "You're the best sister."

I shrug. "Ah, I try my best," I joke, smirking at them both.

Amber bites her lip, trying in vain to hide her happiness. I can tell they've wanted this for a long time, and now, they see me as their only hope. I almost feel sorry that I will never deliver.

"We must sit down and plan this," she says with an air of excitement. She grabs Porter's hand and scurries over to sit back on the sofa with him. "I can set up a date with the doctor, and we'll go from there."

I wave my hand dismissively. "Don't worry about doctors for now. They'll only charge you over the top money for doing what we can do between us."

She frowns. "What do you mean?"

I look at Porter before looking back at Amber. "Well, it is a little embarrassing to say this, but I'm sure with you both being married to each other that Porter has seen and heard this a thousand times." I take in a breath. "I'm regular, so I know my patterns by now. All I think we'll need is a few ovulation kits and some ... erm ... specimen jugs for Porter. Since you only live a mere ten minutes away, that should allow plenty of time to safely drop off what's needed... I can let you know when I'm ovulating, and all you or Porter will need to do is drop the sample off to me."

They look at each other before turning to me. "Okay, but I think it will be mostly Porter if it's during the day. He's going to be the one doing all the work." She said, "doing all the work" in air quotes. I almost choked on my wine.

Porter looks nervous but nods his head. "Okay. I think we can work something out."

I smile and take another sip of my wine. This couldn't have gone more perfectly.

Amber clears her throat. "So, when do you think—" Porter nudges her as if to keep her quiet.

I chuckle. "It's okay, Porter. I know how much this means to you both, and I can tell Amber's keen to get started. I'm sorry to bring this up again, but I had my period about a week ago, so I should imagine very soon. At least within the next few days."

I see Amber squeezing Porter's hand. "That's great." She looks at Porter adoringly before looking back at me. "You don't know how grateful I am."

I wave my hand. "It's nothing. Seriously."

"Oh, but it is. There aren't many siblings who would agree to something like this."

"I'm sure there are," I protest. "I saw a program a few weeks back about this very same thing."

Her eyes light up. "Really? What was that? I would love to watch it."

"I'm not too sure. I think it was on Channel Four, or something. Look it up on the internet. I'm sure you'll find lots on the same subject."

She nods. "I will, thanks." She suddenly gets up. "I'm just going to pop to the shops to get those tests." She's suddenly up before Porter and I can react. Pretty soon, she's out the door, and Porter and I are left staring at each other.

He laughs. "She can be a little bit enthusiastic at times."

I chuckle. "So I see."

He surprises me by coming over to where I'm sitting before he slides next to me. Next thing I know, he has my hand in his. "What you're doing... It's an amazing thing. I know Amber's in awe of you right now, but so am I. You're amazing." At that, he locks his eyes with mine, and that surge of heat I get when I'm about to hit on my mark takes over. But this is Porter, so I know I have to tone it down. Otherwise, the whole thing may blow up in my face. It's amazing how easily this is going.

I pretend to get flustered by his comment. "Thank you, but you don't have to—"

"You know, for a beautiful woman, you don't take compliments very well."

I nudge his arm. "You think I'm beautiful?"

It's now his turn to blush. "Sorry. That sounded inappropriate."

"Well, considering what we're about to do, I think you calling me beautiful is about the least inappropriate." I laugh, and he laughs along with me.

"Is this not going to get weird for you? Us having a baby together?"

I squeeze his hand back. "It will only be as weird as you and I make it." I sigh. "Listen, I promise to do whatever it takes as long as you will too. There's no I in the team." There is a hint of my agenda in my words, but whether Porter knows what I'm talking about or not, he doesn't let on.

He squeezes my hand back. "I promise."

A year later.....

It's late December, I took 2 weeks off to visit Tiere at Jakarta, staying at her apartment. Tiere told me she loves her job and she made a lot of money. I'm so happy that I let her chase her dreams. And I, I finally got to work at my dream game company, was accepted right after a month dating Tiere. She's like a lucky charm to me.

The sun shining through the open curtain, I woke up before the alarm start beeping. I turned it off once it rang cause it's Sunday, I leaned forward looking at the peaceful looks of Tiere while she's sleeping, drooling on her pillow, greasy hair, and her messy waterproof makeup, did she forget to wash her face or? I use my thumb to wipe her eye –shadow but I didn't make it, for me she's always beautiful, my lips lifted upward I feel warm in my heart as it beats faster cause I realize how much I love her. Somehow it's so calming and my heart is melting. I leaned my head forward again, kiss her lips once and she pouted. "I want to sleeeppppp" she said, tossing her body to the other side. I laid back on the bed, hug her from behind. 

"Good morning, my dear" I whispered. I heard her sniffing smiles. Then my phone ruined my Sunday. 

drrrttt drrttt drrttt

I sit up to catch my phone, my mom's picture popped up. DAMN! SHE IS VIDEO CALLING ME RIGHT NOW? I LIED TO HER! But it's okay, I am 24 years old. BUT NO, JUST PRETEND I'M IN THE HOTEL.

I click the green button soon as my mom's face close up-ly appeared. I was kind of shock, my heart start pumping fast, throbbing behind my ribs, it's going to crack soon.

"Hii.. Mom" my jaw turns rigid. 

"Hey, so, you're at Jakarta?" my mom asked, still smiling.  

I nod my head, "Yes"

"Huh.. it's so hard to ask you to come to Miami, but when it is about Tiere, you arrived soon as she asked" 

I told my mom about Tiere and my mom was so happy about it. I don't know she used to ship me with Tiere since grade –school. I don't understand my mom sometimes. 

"Mom..." I rolled my eyes. 

"So where's she?"

"She is beside me..ups" I covered my mouth, DAMN! MY MOM PURPOSELY SHIFT MY CONCENTRATION.

Her smile disappeared, her face turned scary. THIS IS THE END OF MY LIFE!

"HAA!! YOU!!! Bastard! You slept with TIERE?? YOU DARE LIED TO ME?? YOU WANNA GET MARRIED SOON, HUH?" 

"Momm.. mom... listen" like usually....

Then, how about Caroline and the flowers?

Back to that time.

Once I've done my confessions towards Tiere, I walked back to my car light –heartedly. I feel happy and relieved at the same time.

It's Caroline. Oh, I really forgot about her! I was kinda shock.

"Ryan.. where the hell are you?"

"Caroline.. I'm so sorry to say this. But, I think I'd like to stay with Tiere cause I love her" I said as I scratched my forehead, I know I sound like a total jerk but this is for the best.

"What???" she moaned and hung up the phone, before I even explain. 

Then the florist got to call me. 

"Hello, Giany's florist here. Am I talking with Mr.Valerian?"
 "Hello, miss florist. The bouquet and the chocolate box, sorry.. my girlfriend just left the town, so I'm giving that package for you. Thankyou!"

It turned her speechless, maybe I sound pathetic but not too pathetic that makes her confused. Ah, not a big deal.

That's how I deal with my puppy lover and the first roses I bought.

Ryan is from a very rich family too, but he is simple, so nobody has ever realized it. 

Tiere : a nerd girl who tends to be so active, and talkative. She has a dark past during her school time, students like to judge her, but since graduated from high school she did some improvements of her both appearance and her image that makes her prettier in the present time. But nah, in the past time, she is kind of retarded. Her family isn't that rich, but her mom's new husband and her dad's new wife are billionaires. But Tiere won't take a cent from them. She is tough. 

Caroline : she is one of the queen bees gang in their school. But she is the most normal among the others, I mean.. she is kinda study a lot rather than hanging out and shopping, even though she does a lot of shopping too. She is from a very rich family, that's why people like to cling into her. Nowadays people.

Calvin : Tiere's ex –boyfriend. Son of a famous cosmetic company. Calvin and Tiere were not in the same school. They met in the pub where Tiere worked at. That time, Calvin has a crush on her, and get to know her better. Tiere doesn't change because of Calvin, so don't get her wrong. She changed because she feel kinda ashamed of her past life during her school time.

He got off the bus and proceeded toward his building. It was one of the two towers in the suburb. They were the 47 storey buildings: old and decrepit. Everything else was dwarfed by their presence. They were grey with rectangular blocks with architecture designed for function more than for aesthetics. There was nothing about them that would please his eyes. However walking on the ground, in between buildings looking upwards would truly make anyone filled with the wonder of their sheer size. They were nicknamed  "The Twin Towers", but he disliked the label. He didn't want to be the resident of a building nick-named after the unfortunate buildings that fell in New York. Ironically his building was actually named Building-7. The name itself was legendary in conspiratorial circles. The other one was named building six. There were seven such buildings in the area. His building lay on the outer stretches of the compound.


He entered the compound, gave a nod to the guard and got inside the lift. There was no one inside. He lazily pushed the number 5 and waited for the doors to close. As it was about to do so, a delicate slender hand blocked the door. It belonged to a young girl, his neighbour; the 22 year old Samantha. Though she couldn't be considered tall, she was definitely  taller than him. She was a brunette with a slender face and a toned physique, and she loved to smile. She had the type of smile that would make snow melt even during winters and made you feel warm inside. He had a crush on her, but he was not the type to express feelings. Plus she was taller than him, which was a major thing for him.. "Hey,Dr. Wang, how are you?" she asked with the same smile. "I am fine" he said, "trying to force a smile." "Huh?" She didn't understand what the last line meant. Wang was taken aback. Almost as if the author of his life had inadvertently put double quotes where there were not supposed to, and somehow a bit of narration had turned into dialogue. He said nothing, though an awkward smile did appear on his face. Both of them remained quiet. The lift opened on their floor. He swiftly got out and  waved at her. She gave him the usual smile but her eyes displayed elements of confusion as well as fascination. He walked towards his door thinking, "What's wrong with me today?" He got to the door and put the keys into the keyhole. He tried to turn the knob around, but it wouldn't budge. He stood for a while inspecting his keys. They were the right one. Then why isn't the door opening? He thought. There was only one explanation: he was on the wrong floor.


After getting back to the lift, he got to his real floor and rushed into his room. The day had been too bizarre for his liking. He undressed and took a quick shower. Then he made himself some food and sat on the sofa watching the tv. The tv ran news about the accident that he had witnessed that day. Even then, it felt unreal to him. He closed the tv and slid into his bed and turned off the light.


"Why are you looking at me like that?" Samantha asked him. "Well",  he said as he maintained his gaze and moved closer to her, "Because every time I see you, it feels like the first time. As if the world is created just before you open your eyes, and destroyed right after you close them. As if time exists just to document your beauty and space exists just to manifest your light. Without you, the universe would have no meaning and the planets would be revolving around an empty centre" Her eyes welled up. She ripped apart her clothes, and then he opened his eyes, "Wow that was so cringey!", he thought to himself as if he rose his head from the pillow, "I would have thought something better."


It was a bright cool morning.  Birds chirping normally. Dogs barking at a distance. Some crickets still made their unique sound. The only thing seemingly ruined was his pajamas. He took a shower and prepared himself a meal. He checked the phone and there were messages from his mother. He ignored them. After having two slices of brown bread with butter, he put on his new pair of shirt and coat. He pulled the watch from his bedside table and put it on his left wrist. He happened to look at its face. It was ten minutes forward. He was mildly startled. He checked the clock on his wall, It was 10 minutes behind, and so was the time on his computer. Somehow his wrist watch had moved forward in time. Is something wrong with the battery? He thought, But if the battery was waning, the hands should be slowing down, not running forward. Apart from mild confusion, he thought nothing of it. He pulled the gear of the watch and adjusted the time to 10 minutes forward. He then realised he was almost late to his work. He rushed out of his apartment towards the elevator. As he waited at the elevator door, his eyes fell on the round white clock on top. It was ticking away one second at a time. Something about the ticking hypnotised him into staring at the clock, almost as if time was fluid and the clock of the hand could run in the opposite direction at any moment. At a point, he was sure that he was seeing the second hand stuck at one position, ticking but not moving forward. He couldn't believe his eyes as he moved closer to the clock and as he raised his legs to feel the clock, the lift opened. Samantha was inside. "Hello again" she said. He jerked back as he flashed her a random smile. He looked back at the clock once more. It was running normally. He got into the lift. "Beautiful day isn't it?" Samantha said, "Beautiful day!", he vaguely concurred.

A lonely workaholic doctor suddenly finds himself in the midst of a world that is  running backwards. Though he initially dismisses these episodes as freak incidents, the increase in the frequency of their occurrence makes him believe that he has the power to change some world events.
