Stephanie  is not really looking for a relationship she is just looking for some companion, friend and who knows might be best friend for Stephanie its a BONUS if she will find a partner on that dating app.

There this one simple guy that she saw on the said app, she swipe right and hollllaaaa "it's a match" They started chatting, getting to know each other after few months Stephanie and Marvin exchanging numbers, they do long conversation, all day chatting and since Stephanie is a girl who is very easy to fall to someone who is nice to her, she felt that "kilig" everytime they're talking on the phone and chatting. Then after few months of chatting, exhanging thoughts, laughing all night Marvin and Stephanie fell in love with each other even though they're not seeing each other just talking and chatting. 

They decide to meet up, normal.feeling with Stephanie she is nervous what if Marvin is just like other guy that he knew on that app, what if Marvin is just making fun at her. 

Marvin: Im on my way

after few minutes its time for both of them to see who they're exchanging "kilig" factor.
Finally after few months of exchanging text messages, chat and phone calls they now met.

Happy Monday or a hellish first day.

"I already fixed your transcripts, so you will be starting with your classes today," I tell Jason when he arrives at my office. 

"Boris will show your room," I add while gesturing him to follow my assistant. Jason stands and leaves without even saying a word.

He still looks hostile as when we first met. I just shake my head.

His presence in the university spreads like wildfire. Every student becomes curious of what he is like. 

Some students are excited to see him while others who already met him are appalled. Women swoon at his presence while men can't stand it when he's around.

Just like the five lords, he's got the charm that can shut a room without even doing anything. He also has his fair share of the infamous Spencer's volcanic temper. He is like an untamed beast.

Not without a day that he comes to my office for beating someone up. Thus, his new nicknames--- The Black Sheep or The Dark Prince!

"What is it this time, Jason?" I ask in front of him and another student, whose nose is bleeding. 

"Ask him!" he answers, staring at the poor guy seemingly terrified.

"I did not do anything wrong professor. I promise! I~ he~ he suddenly came  and punched me in the face!" he says as he occasionally looks at Jason, sitting in that dominant manner. 

"I warned you not to stare at me~" Jason hisses.

I close my eyes as I listen to him talk. Since he came, this guy has been the 50th victim of his explosive temper. 

"Boris bring this guy to the clinic!" I command as they leave. 

"As for you~ we need to talk," I say.

For a moment, I stare at Jason and he meets my eyes without even blinking. I exhale as I look away.

"When are you gonna stop?!" 

"I can't. You said yourself that brutality runs in our blood. Well, I am just keeping it running," he says casually.

"You are terrorizing everyone. This is a school, not a boxing ring!"

"What's the difference? They are both inflicting pain and you need hardwork and determination to pass," he says nonchalantly.

"This is your last chance! If you ever beat another guy--- I'll see you--- in hell!" 

He smirks. Then, he shrugs his shoulders. He does have the Spencer charm, sitting on my sofa as if it's his throne. I smile at the idea. He raises his brow at my reaction. 

"Hell?"

"Yeah!"

"Sure. I might as well give you a tour since I've already been there~" he replies, challenging my temper.

"Good. When we go there, be sure to prepare a banquet for me," I say, smiling at him like a psycho.

"Tsk! Can I go now--- professor?" he says, empasizing the word 'professor' in a sarcastic way. I ignore. 

I gesture him to leave. 

Days go by and the life in university becomes more hectic while the life at the mansion turns chaotic. 

The lords quarrel with Jason pretty much everyday. Even without words being said, a tacit competition arises. His presence at the mansion stirs all kinds of emotions.

Letizia and Stephanie are at the veranda drinking beer while watching the quarter moon peeping through a cottony cloud.

"The view from the veranda is exquisite. Whatever weather it is, its empeccable beauty never fades," Stephanie utters. Letizia agrees.

"Just a moment!" Letizia says before heading inside and comes back wearing a white dress.

"Take a photo of me against the moonlight!" Letizia tells Stephanie, who looks at her from head to foot. 

"What are you wearing?" she asks.

Letizia turns around swinging the skirt of her white dress.

"This atmosphere is perfect for a photoshoot," Letizia says as she adjusts her corset.

"What?! You might fall down--- like Primrose!" Stephanie says nervously when Letizia sits on the railing with her back towards the moonlight.

"Don't be a goosey! I'll be fine!" Letizia says while smiling, assuring Stephanie that there's nothing to worry about.

"Okay... take photos now!" Letizia says as Stephanie nervously takes photos. 

They keep on laughing as she tries different poses.

Then, the wind begins to blow stronger to Letizia's delight.

"This is amazing!" she says while spreading her hands like Rose in the timeless romantic movie Titanic. 

"I am thinking, why don't we take photos at the grand staircase inside. I bet, no one's in the living room already," Stephanie says excitedly. 

Letizia tilts her head then she agrees.

"So~ what should I do?" Letizia asks.

"Climb up until the middle of the staircase. Lie down. Twist your lower body to your right. Put your left hand above your head. Your right hand on your lap. Let your dress flow, following the stairs. Flex your legs a little bit. Relax them as if they are hanging on the stairs. Tilt your head to your right and look down... that's it!" Stephanie instructs as Letizia follows. 

Then, she begins taking photos from different angles. Letizia looks like a fallen angel's bride. Stephanie even takes some flowers and let Letizia hold them.

Click. Click. Click.

Then, Stephanie holds on to the camera tight when she sees Jason going down the stairs through the lens. He looks at Letizia blankly.

"Move~" Jason says with his usual cold voice. 

Letizia jolts upon hearing his voice as nervousness creeps in her chest. And then, she impulsively stands up. She moves so quick that she steps on the hem of her dress causing her to lose her balance.

She screams as she falls down. She shuts her eyes when she sees the stairs becoming closer. Then, she holds her breath and prepares herself for her unfortunate fate. 

She can hear Stephanie's squeal and footsteps. 

Then, someone holds her waist, preventing her from falling. 

Letizia heard gasps. She slowly opens her eyes to see the face of her savior--- Jason staring at her with his stale expression. He lets her go when he sees Ben's rage.

"What is the meaning of this?" Ben thunders from upstairs. 

Without a warning, he runs to where Jason is standing and hits his face. The ladies scream as the two men brawl while the other lords just watch--- even betting who's gonna win.

"Don't you ever lay your filthy fingers on my girlfriend's body!" Ben shouts.

"Hah! Don't worry. I don't feast on someone else's food," Jason replies.

They roll on the floor, throwing punches on each other.

"Stop!" Letizia screams, Ben's fist suspended.

"It's not his fault, darling," she says. 

Jason stands and glances at him.

"Your girlfriend seems to be in a hurry to get married, and I feel sorry for her--- for choosing a guy like you!" he mocks as he wipes the blood on his lips.

Ben wants to crush him with his hands, but his girlfriend is hugging him tight.


Jason simpers as he leaves.

Stephanie had never been so embarrassed in her sixteen years in any world.


"I...I..." She stuttered before Professor Avery decided to relieve her of her misery.


"Come in, and lock the door behind you—Ok so I'm going to ask one more time, what do you want?"


Nessa had never seen the Professor so angry. The Professor's face held no emotion, but her voice said it all. And clearly, Stephanie saw past the flat expression, because it took her a few seconds to speak.


"I came to talk with Nessa." She finally said.


Professor Avery arched a brow. "So you followed us."


"No..." Stephanie spluttered, "I used the map."


A twinkle in the Professor's eyes, and Nessa knew Stephanie had given a wrong answer.


"If you lie one more time," The Professor snarled. "I'll make sure you experience more pain than you could have thought possible."


Even if Professor Avery wasn't talking to her, it took all of Nessa's effort not to whimper. She had never seen this side of the Professor before, and it scared her. 


In her opinion, all Stephanie had done was eavesdrop. Although it's clearly wrong, Professor Avery seemed to be going too far.


"I'm not lying," Stephanie defended, barely keeping a steady voice. "I used the map."


"Before you make a lie," Professor Avery's voice was cold, as she walked towards Stephanie, "Make sure you check just how much sense it has. This office is not plotted on the map. So you can either tell me who sent you, or..." Professor Avery formed a dark energy ball in her left hand, and a fire ball in the other, completing the sentence in the best way possible.


"Ok, ok." Stephanie finally said. "After you stopped Nessa's magic from going haywire, I followed the both of you."


"Why?"


"I was curious. I was wondering why you showed interest in Nessa. I was wondering if you also thought she deserved more attention than I did."


Professor Avery's eyes softened. Immediately the magic in her hand disappeared. But when she spoke, her voice lacked any emotion besides anger. 


"Is that all?"


"No," Stephanie stared at her boots. "I...I...I also came to ask for Nessa's help."


What?

Nessa could barely breathe much less think. It suddenly seemed like she was in a movie, and some epic twist just occurred.


"You came to ask for my help?" Nessa asked. "If that is the best lie you can come up with..."


"I'm not lying." Stephanie defended heatedly, her eyes barely meeting Nessa's. "I need you to help me," she paused. "with magic."


Nessa barely suppressed a laugh. A laugh that would have punched a hole in Stephanie's heart if she was being serious.


'Surely this chic is joking.' Nessa thought to herself First she challenges me, and now she's asking for my help. Does she even expect me to say yes?'


"We could help each other out," Stephanie continued, breaking Nessa's thoughts. "You help me with magic, I help you with—what do you need help with?"


The laugh finally broke free, filling the room with a hint of mockery. Stephanie hadn't even thought the whole thing through. It was obvious she was a better fighter than Nessa. That could have been useful for leverage.


But now, since Stephanie obviously wasn't very smart, Nessa could make it seem like she's doing her a favor by teaching her magic, while also learning fighting techniques from her.


"Why are you laughing?" Professor Avery asked.


"Nothing," Nessa said immediately, stifling her remaining laughter. Then she turned to Stephanie. "Fine, I'll teach you magic."


"Really?" Stephanie met Nessa's eyes, her face shining briefly. "What's in it for you?"


Nessa shrugged. "Did I ask for anything? I could change my mind if you..."


"No," Stephanie said immediately. "When do we start?"


"Two days from now, after lunch." 


Stephanie smiled. "Thank you. See you then." Then she turned to the Professor "I'm really sorry for—everything."


The Professor said nothing. She just stared at Stephanie as she considered the possibility that Stephanie was playing them. Finally deciding not to act unnecessarily paranoid, she said.


"No problem. I'm not going to punish you if you promise me one simple thing."


"Anything," Stephanie said immediately, hoping she would get out of this situation without having to fight the Professor.


"Before that," The Professor said. "I need to know how much of our conversation you heard."


Stephanie told the Professor all she had heard, and thankfully it wasn't much. Stephanie claimed she had only listened in from the part where Nessa asked the professor for the creators' true goal.


"Ok," The Professor said. "What you have heard is top secret. I would kill you now, but I don't want to do that, especially if you could co-operate." 


'And I want you to at least become a friend to Nessa. She needs people like you in her life' The Professor added inwardly.


Nessa just stared at Professor Avery, trying to figure something out. Judging from what Stephanie had claimed she heard, there was nothing 'top secret' in any of it. Even if she had heard from the beginning of the conversation, she wouldn't have left with more information than Nessa.


And the only information Nessa was leaving with—which was more or less useless—was that Professor Avery wasn't the creator of the Marth Universe.


So, if that was the case, why is the Professor making such a big deal out of nothing.


"Thank you," Stephanie broke Nessa's thoughts. "What do you want me to do?"


"Nothing." Professor Avery said. "In fact forget everything about what you just heard. If I hear as much as one word of this outside..."


"I won't say anything."


"Good," the Professor smiled. "Now that we understand each other, you can leave."


Stephanie left the room without another word. As soon as the door closed behind her, she breathed a sigh of relief, then suddenly a flood of shame washed over her.


Why had she been scared? She hardly ever got scared of anything? But just looking at the Professor had made her shake in her boots. She couldn barely even think logically. She clenched her fist. She hated feeling weak.


But a part warned her, and she decided she wasn't going to breathe a word of what she had heard, even if she had heard more than she told them.

"I have two questions." Nessa said the moment she was sure Stephanie was no longer at the door. "And you must answer them."


"Nessa,"


"You must answer them." Nessa repeated.


The Professor hated the way Nessa seemed to be forcing her, but for some reason she couldn't get mad. Mad at the person who had more right to be mad at her. Mad at the person who decided to trust her despite all that she did. Mad at the very person she hoped would one day save them all. 


"Fine," she finally agreed. "I will if I can."


Nessa nodded, partly satisfied 


"How did you do it?"


"Do what?" 


"Make Stephanie scared. I know her type, and it's definitely not the type who gets scared that easily."

'Plus, I got scared too.'


Professor Avery chuckled slightly. "I used mind magic."


"What?" 


Suddenly, Nessa started feeling soft and gooey inside. This was exactly how she thought being in love would feel. Guard-less, wall-less, defenseless. She hated the feeling. Moments later, she successfully suppressed it, way beneath her heart. 


Professor Avery looked a bit surprised. "You have a strong mind."


"I just hate the feeling."


"Of being in love?"


Nessa shrugged. "It doesn't make much sense to me yet."


The Professor shook her head, and thought to herself.


'Nessa needs more help than I thought. I have to do something, but not yet. She's smart. If I act too fast, she'll notice.'


"Ok," she said moments later. "What's your second question?"


Nessa narrowed her eyes. "I don't understand why you made Stephanie promise not to say anything. It's not like she heard too much."


"We have no proof that she didn't hear much." Professor Avery replied. "And assuming she heard more than she admitted, which would be incredible considering the amount of pressure I put her through, making her promise tells her that I saw through her lies. She wouldn't dare utter a word to a soul."


Nessa thought about it for a few seconds. She had to admit, it was quite smart. Then she sighed within herself. 'I need to be smarter, if I want to stay alive.'


Suddenly, a question popped in her mind. "Can I use Mind magic to read people's minds?"


Professor Avery stared at her like the fact she had even asked the question was absurd. "No, you can't."


"So what use is mind magic?"


"With my current power, if I tried hard enough, I could make you kiss a frog and you wouldn't even flinch."


"You're kidding."


"Do I look like I'm kidding?"


"Maybe," Nessa taunted. "But still, does the magic have any use against monsters? They are the ones I need to be fighting if I want to clear this game."


"It does. But sadly, even I am not capable of achieving such a feat, and I don't plan on teaching you how to."

"But," Nessa spluttered, ignoring the last part. "You have a blue cursor."


"Which is clearly not enough. If I had a violet cursor for instance, I would be able to command even a floor boss to end its own life, and I wouldn't need to lift a finger."


Nessa's eyes widened. "So why aren't you teaching me?"


"There's no time," Professor Avery said returning to her seat. She laced her fingers under her chin before speaking again. "There's definitely no time. We need to start your training in earnest. You can leave, but remember that tomorrow your training begins."


"Ok," Nessa said as she made her way to the door. The moment her fingerd curved around the cold handle, Professor Avery asked a question.


"Why did you agree to teach Stephanie magic?"


Nessa smiled and turned around to look at the Professor. She finally had the opportunity to use that line. 


"Even if I wanted to tell you, I can't."


Professor Avery's eyes widened as she realized Nessa had just quoted her. Then she laughed. 


"See you tomorrow." she said


Nessa left and shut the door with a partially triumphant look on her face. 


The face burned itself deep into Professor Avery's mind as she thought.


'She's so crafty at her age--'


Then the Professor stood up and walked closer to the portrait on the wall.


'--she's definitely our savior.'

Nessa is a young paranoid girl who has no time for useless romance and cares about no-one but herself and her family. She's given a seemingly harmless gift which ends up changing her world as she knows it. Literally. 

Stuck in a different world with nothing but her wits and her brother, Nessa struggles to complete a game and escape a world filled magic, monsters and self made villains so she can return to reality. She soon finds out that this is indeed more than just a game and she was nothing more than a pawn in the hands of people far stronger than she was.

Despite the fact that the mc is female, she's neither a hero nor a villain. She's the most paranoid and untrusting person you might ever meet. So if you're looking for a story where the mc swooshes in to save the day every single time, I'm sorry this is not your read.

The sound of the cat barking inside was sweet, but it didn't make Ferg, Stephanie, Ei Yi, Gauqin, the four of them relaxed their guard, they took out their weapons, they were four pistols capable of firing bullets, they held them, and they burst inside.

Ferg: Ah!

Once inside, Ferg, who was the first to suffer, was knocked down. And the whiteness of the room, who opened the bottle of carbon dioxide fire extinguisher that was put in the room, could be this, this hideous-looking guy, this bottle of liquefied carbon dioxide.

Schrodinger's Cat: Roar!

Sure enough, the Schrodinger's Cat was a tough one to deal with. After it knocked Ferg down and bit him, Ferg was unable to get up and his vision blurred. And when the mutant Schrodinger's Cat jumped on Stephanie, Stephanie, was still in shock.

Ei Yi: Ah!

The mutant Schrodinger's Cat, larger than an adult leopard, was agile and, more importantly, seemed intelligent, able to lure the enemy deep and, most importantly, the person it bit would fall to the ground with a blurred consciousness, so the other two were helpless.

Gauqin: Ah!

There was a scream in room d0453, but no one heard it except the supercomputer RQ, and after McJack and Chen Si arrived in room d0453, there were only four hideous, bloody people lying inside. Apparently, all four of them were bitten by the mutant Schrodinger's Cat.

Mike Jack: Looks like someone's already here early.

Chen Si: And the situation is not optimistic!

Mike Jack: My scanner found them alive.

Chen Si: But it's just dying!

Who would have imagined that the Schrodinger's Cat, after biting someone, did not escape the room, but hid behind the door, when he suddenly opened his tusks and jumped at Mike Jack.

Schrodinger's Cat: Roar!

The quick-witted Mike Jack pressed the trigger, fired a shot and surprised Schrodinger's Cat.

Mike Jack: Scare me!

Chen Si: I was startled, too!

Schrodinger's Cat: Meow!

Schrodinger's Cat ran outside.

Mike Jack: It's out.

Chen Si: Shall we go after it?

McJack wasn't in a hurry to catch up, Schrodinger's Cat, because he found something.

Mike Jack: Strangely, it has the ability to kill us, but it doesn't do that, and it has the ability to kill all the people who are already in this room, and it leaves them alive.

Chen Si: Do you mean it was done on purpose?

Mike Jack: Do we have any reason to deny that?

Chen Si: So does that mean he's playing cat-and-mouse with us? Won't it kill us until the last minute?

First of all, it's important to save people.

Mike Jack: RQ, call the rescuers and get the wounded out of room d0453.

RQ: Supercomputer RQ command keyboard has been turned on! Just tell me what the hell you're doing, and don't think I'm gonna sit back and die.

RQ: Supercomputer RQ, and now we have a scientific formula.

RQ: Supercomputer RQ, got to the complete mass space formula.

RQ: The mass space formula has been set, and no one has the right to know.

RQ: No one can know, that is to say, aren't you human?

Stephanie: Yeah! I knew that if we were all wiped out like this, God wouldn't stand it.

Mike Jack: No, we're in the Jedi right now!

Inaantok pa ako ng lumabas ako sa aking kwarto. Maganda ang ngiti sa aking labi dahil sa panaginip ko, nanaginip kasi ako na katabi ko si Kelvin sa pagtulog at tinawag niya pa akong baby. Nakakalungkot lang na panaginip lang iyon dahil walang Kelvin sa tabi ko ng magising ako. 

"Mama!" Sigaw ko habang papunta ako sa kusina. "Mama, anong almusal natin?" 

Nakasanayan ko na yata na magtanong tuwing gigising ako kung ano ang almusal. 

"Mama, napanaginipan ko si Kelvin, magkata---KELVIN?" 

Kinusot kusot ko pa ang mata ko ng hindi si mama ang mabungaran ko sa kusina kundi si Kelvin na nag-aayos ng pagkain sa lamesa. Napatampal pa ako sa noo ko para siguraduhin kung nananaginip ba ako o hindi. 

"Nasaan si mama?" Takhang tanong ko dito. Ano bang ginagawa nito sa bahay namin? 

"Nasa kwarto niya, no worries kumuha na siya ng pagkain. Duon nalang daw siya para magkaroon taho ng privacy." Nakangiting sagot nito sa akin. 

Privacy? Bakit anong meron? Urgh! Am I dreaming again?!

"Teka, n-nanaginip lang ulit ako diba? " Tanong ko sa kanya. 

Nakangiti siya habang papalapit sa akin, tila naman nag-init ang mukha ko ng naghubad siya ng apron at bumungad sa akin ang katawan niya. Ibig sabihin, nandito talaga siya? Hindi ako nanaginip? Katabi ko talaga siya sa pagtulog? 

"Silly, sinong nagsabi sa'yo na nananaginip ka?" Tawang sabi nito at pinisil ang pisngi ko. "Anyway, goodmorning baby." 

Baby. Baby, 

Shit. Did he call me baby? 

Nanlaki ang mata ko ng may ma-realize ako, "Boyfriend na kita?!" 

"Yes, I'm your handsome boyfriend." Proud nitong sagot. "Ang ganda mo pala kapag bagong gising." 

Pinagkunutan ko siya ng noo. Lumapit ako sa kanya at hinampas ng mahina ang balikat niya.

Totoo nga siya. Hindi nga panaginip yung sinagot ko siya, pati na yung pagsayaw niya sa harapan namin ni mama. Ibig sabihin, totoong boyfriend ko na ang lalaking ito, boyfriend ko na yung lalaking apat na taon kong kinukulit. 

"Pasensya na nga pala, pinakaelaman ko na ang gamit ninyo. Gusto ko lang sanang maging memorable ang unang araw natin bilang magkasintahan." 

Sa hindi inaasahan ay bigla ko siyang nayakap ng mahigpit. Pinakiramdaman ko ang sarili ko at kakaibang saya ang nararamdaman ko. Sobrang saya ko na ang lalaking ito ang napili kong mahalin. Kahit ilang beses ko mang uli ulitin ay hindi ako magsasawang sabihin na ang swerte ko kay Kelvin. 

"Why? What happened? Why are you crying?" Nag-aalalang tanong nito sa akin. 

Kumalas ako mula sa pagkakayakap sa kanya, pinunasan ko ang luha sa aking mga mata bago tumingin sa kanya ng may ngiti sa aking labi. 

"Masaya lang ako. Masaya ako kasi hindi na panaginip ito, hindi na ako nananaginip. Atsaka, ang swerte ko sayo, sob---" 

"Shhh." Itinapat niya ang hintuturo sa labi ko, "Ako ang maswerte sayo, sobrang swerte ko na hindi mo ako sinukuan sa apat na taong pangungulit mo. Ngayon, handa na akong harapin ang takot ko basta ikaw ang kasama ko." 

Hinalikan niya ako sa noo. "But for now, I'll treat you as a princess, my princess."

Hinawakan niya ang kamay ko at hinila ako patungo sa hapag-kainan kung saan nakahanda ang mga niluto niya. Hindi niya ako pinakilos kahit na pagkuha man lang ng inumin ko, siya rin ang naglagay ng pagkain sa plato ko. Pinanindigan niya talaga ang pagtrato niya sa akin bilang prinsesa ngayong araw? 

Fried rice, bacon, plus pancake ang niluto niya para sa akin. Simpleng pagkain pero espesyal para sa akin. Pinagtimpla din niya ako ng kape na lalong nakapagpagana sa akin. 

Pwede nang asawahin si Kelvin, pwede niya na akong pakasalan.

"Hinanda ko narin yung babaunin nating pagkain sa school. Pati tubig nagdala narin ako, masyado kasing matigas ang ulo mo. Baka hindi ka na naman kumain ng tama sa oras, kahit pag-inom ng tubig kinakalimutan mo."

Hindi ko alam kung matatawa ba ako o maiinis dahil ang cute niyang tignan habang pinagsasabihan ako. Nakatingin ito sa pancake na kinakain niya.

"Paano ka nga pala makakapasok, wala ka namang uniform?" Tanong ko ng maalala kong nabasa nga pala siya ng ulan at dito na natulog, sa tabi ko. 

"No worries, palagi akong may dalang extra sa kotse ko." Nakangiti niyang sagot. 

Nahiya naman bigla ako, sa aming dalawa ay siya pa na lalaki ang palaging handa. Organize din siya sa gamit hindi tulad ko na kung saan nalang mailapag at kapag nawala kay mama hahanapin. Mas feel ko pa na siya ang babae kaysa sa akin. 

"Goodmorning tita, ano---ANONG GINAGAWA MO DITO?" Nagulat kami pareho ni Kelvin sa biglang pagsigaw ni Shean.

Masigla na naman ito at wala nang sakit kaya bigla bigla nalang ulit sumusulpot kung saan saan. Naka-uniform na ito at handa na rin para pumasok sa campus. Himala nalang na maaga itong naghanda ngayong araw? 

Nanlalaki ang mata niya habang nagpapalipat lipat ang tingin sa aming dalawa ni Kelvin, pagkatapos ay humagalpak ito ng tawa. Nababaliw na yata ang babaeng ito. 

"Stephanie?" Makahulugan ang tingin na binigay niya sa akin, "masyado siyang maaga, sabihin mo nga sa akin, dito ba siya natulog?" 

Napakagat ako sa aking labi dahil sa tanong niya, naalala ko na naman na natulog kami ni Kelvin ng magkayakap. Nilabanan ko ang titig ni Shean ngunit nanatili akong tahimik. 

"OHMYGASH!" Sigaw niya, tila nabasa ang kung anong nasa isip ko. Well, she's my friend. "Kung dito siya natulog, siguro naman duon siya sa bakanteng kwarto diba?" Tanong ulit nito sa akin.

"No, tabi kaming natulog sa isang kama." Si Kelvin ang sumagot. 

"What the hell? Stephanie Alferez, umamin ka sa akin, may nangyari ba sa inyong dalawa? Nasaan si tita? Alam niya ba ito? Ikaw na babae ka talaga." Sunod sunod na tanong nito.

Nanlalaki ang mata niya at nakatingin ng masama sa aming dalawa ni Kelvin, para bang may nagawa kaming isang malaking kasalanan. 

"Look, wala kaming ginawang hindi maganda, we just slept cuddling each other. At alam ni tita ang lahat ng ito, they have my respect, Shean. You no need to be worry about them." 

Paninigurado ni Kelvin habang ako ay natahimik nalang habang pinagmamasdan siya na nagpapaliwanag sa aking kaibigan. Natahimik naman si Shean sa isinagot ni Kelvin, marahil ay hindi niya rin ito inaasahan. 

"Makikikain lang sana ako pero kayong dalawa ang nadatnan ko sa kusina, where is tita? Tita?!" 

Sa kawalan ng isasagot ay tinawag nalang niya si mama, umupo ito sa tabi ko at naglagay nang pagkain sa plato. Babaeng ito kahit kailan feel at home, matapos makipagtalo kay Kelvin ay kakain siya ng niluto nito. 

"Anong kaguluhan ang nangyayari dito? Shean?"

Agad na tumayo si Shean at niyakap si mama ng mahigpit, may pa-I miss you pang nalalaman. Akala mo naman ilang taong hindi nagkita, magkatapat lang naman ang bahay namin. Binibisita rin siya ni mama kapag may oras ito. 

Umupo silang dalawa sa tabi ko at kumuha pa ng pagkain, parang sarap na sarap sila sa luto ni Kelvin. 

Matapos kumain ay naghanda na ako para sa pagpasok namin ngayong araw, pinagmasdan ko pa ang sarili ko sa salamin, unang araw namin ni Kelvin ito bilang magkasintahan kaya dapat lang na presentable akong tignan sa harap niya at sa harap ng maraming tao. 

Nang makuntento ako sa sarili ko ay nakangiti akong lumabas ng kwarto, bumungad naman sa akin si Kelvin na nakaayos na at handa narin sa pagpasok. Nagpaalam na kami kay mama para sa pagpasok.

"Uy, Stephanie, blooming ka ngayon ah?" 

"Ohmy, Stephanie, iba yata ang ganda mo ngayon?"

"Nangangamoy, in a relationship sa section natin ah?" 

"Holding hands while walking, sakit ninyo sa mata." 

Sari-saring bulungan ang narinig namin nang makapasok kami sa classroom, halos lahat ng mga kaklase namin ay napunta ang atensyon sa amin. 

Paanong hindi magbubulungan? Alam nila kung gaano ko na katagal kinukulit ang lalaking ito para lang i-crushback ako, saksi sila kung paano niya ako deadmahin tapos ngayon, sabay kaming papasok habang magkahawak pa ng kamay. Kung ako man ay hindi rin makapaniwala sila pa kaya?

Naupo na kami sa kanya kanya naming pwesto, hindi naman kami magkatabi sa upuan dahil si Shean ang katabi ko. Baka magtampo pa sa akin ang bruha kapag iniwan ko siya. Mawawalan din siya ng kadaldalan. 

Nagkaingay din ang buong klase ng pumasok si Shean sa pinto kasama ang boyfriend niya. Kinamusta siya ng mga kaklase namin at natutuwa ang mga ito na makita siyang ayos na. Naupo nadin ito sa tabi ko nang magpaalam si Yohanne sa kanya. 

"Kamusta naman ang buhay may kasintahan?"

Napairap ako sa tanong niya, kanina sa bahay ay tinanong narin niya iyon at sinagot naman agad ni Kelvin tapos ngayon itatanong na naman niya sa akin? 

"Ang daldal mo parang hindi ka na-aksidente." Suway ko dito. 

"Aksidente? Hindi alsidente iyon, tinulak ako NI Janah, duh. Buti nga in-expel lang siya, kung naabutan ko iyon baka maitulak ko pa sa rooftop ang demonyitang iyon." Singhal na sabi niya. 

Natuwa naman ako dahil nalihis na ang usapan, sigurado akong hindi na niya itatanong iyon. 

"Galit na galit gustong manakit?" Natatawa kong sabi sa. 

Alam kong hindi mapapatawad ng kaibigan ko si Janah dahil sa ginawa nito sa kanya. Kung ako man ay may galit paring nararamdaman para sa kanya, pero hindi na dapat naming problemahin ang babaeng iyon. Hindi na naman niya kami masasaktan. 

"Stephanie, may nagpapaabot."

Napatingin kami pareho ni Shean ng lumapit ang isa kong kaklase, inabot din niya sa akin ang piraso ng papel. Hindi na ito nagsalita pa at umalis na sa harap namin. 

"Ako na titingin." 

Masamang tingin nalang ang ibinigay ko sa kanya ng bigla niyang hablutin ang papel na kabibigay lang sa akin. Shean is Shean, kahit na pagbali-baliktarin pa ang mundo ay hindi na yata magbabago ang babaeng ito. 

"Siguro babae ang nagsulat nito, ang ganda ng penmanship eh." Puna pa nito ng buklatin ang papel. "Kelvin and Stephanie, please proceed to a vacant classroom near to clinic, right now." Basa nito sa sulat. 

Vacant classroom near to clinic? Wait. Duon sa bakanteng classroom kung saan umamin sa akin si Kelvin? Yung nagselos siya. Bakit naman kaya? At sino naman ang mag pakana nito? 

"Hoy, Kelvin, may sulat para sa in---" tinakpan ko ang bibig ni Shean ng sumigaw ito. 

Kahit kailan talaga ang ingay ng babaeng ito, hindi nga namin alam kung kanino galing ang sulat na ito, tapos tatawagin pa niya si Kelvin. 

"Patingin." 

Sa isang iglap ay nasa harap na namin si Kelvin, kinuha niya ang papel kay Shean at kunot noong binasa iyon. Natahimik naman kaming pareho ng kaibigan ko habang pinagmamasdan si Kelvin na nagbabasa. 

"Come, may naghihintay sa atin." 

Nabigla ako ng hawakan niya ang kamay ko at hinila ako patungo sa bakanteng classroom. May kinalaman ba siya sa sulat na iyon o alam lang niya kung sino ang nagbigay nuon? 

Tumigil siya saglit para lang tignan ako at hawakan ng ayos ang aking kamay. Feeling ko lahat ng dugo ko ay umakyat sa mukha ko, hindi ito ang unang beses na hawakan niya ang kamay ko sa harap ng maraming tao, ginawa na rin niya ito kanina pero kinikilig parin ako. 

Gano'n na ba talaga kalakas ang tama ko sa kanya? 

"Kilala mo ba kung sino ang nagbigag ng sulat?" Tanong ko sa gitna ng paglalakad naming dalawa. 

"Kurt. I saw his penmanship once, sigurado akong sa kanya galing iyon." 

"Si Kurt?" Bakit naman kaya niya gagawin iyon? Sigurado naman akong alam na niya ang tungkol sa amin ni Kelvin na karibal niya dati. 

Huminto kami sa tapat ng bakanteng classroom, napangiti nalang ako ng maalala ko kung ano ang nangyari sa loob nito. Iyon ang unang beses na kinilig ako dahil sa pagseselos niya at sa pag-amin. 

"Wow."

Iyan ang tanging salita na lumabas sa bibig ko nang makapasok kami sa loob. May maliit na lamesa sa gitna at dalawang upuan sa magkabilang gilid. Mayroon ding kadila sa gitna nito at tatlong rosas. Simple ang lugar pero para akong nasa isang romantic date tulad ng mga napapanuod ko sa movie. 

"Surprise!"

Napatingin kami kay Kurt na nakatayo sa tapat ng pinto, malapad ang ngiti nito habang nakatingin sa aming dalawa ni Kelvin. Siya nga ang may pakana ng lahat ng ito pero para saan naman kaya?

"P-para saan ito, Kurt?" Takhang tanong ko sa kanya.

"Gusto ko lang regaluhan kayong dalawa as newly couple, alam ko na dito sa lugar na ito umamin si Kelvin sa'yo kaya naisip ko, maganda kung dito ang first da---"

Hindi niya natapos ang sasabihin niya ng bigla ko siyang yakapin. Sa lahat ng sakit na pinaramdam ako sa kanya ay naisip pa niyang gumawa ng ganito para lang maging masaya ako. 

"Stephanie, gusto ko pang mabuhay." Bulong niya sa akin, naguluhan ako sa sinabi niya pero kalaunan ay naintindihan ko ang ibig niyang sabihin. 

Shit! 

"Kung hindi lang dahil dito sa surprise mo, nagselos na ako." Mahinang sabi ni Kelvin.

"Napapansin kong hindi ka friendly, but I insist to be friends with you. Hope you don't mind?" Tanong ni Kurt sa kanya. 

"You'll be the first one who have courage to talk to me like that."

"You talked back means you're my friend, now. Enjoy your date." 

Nakangiti itong umalis at iniwan kaming dalawa ni Kelvin, ngayon dalawa nalang kami sa loob ng classroom. Umupo kami sa lamesa ng biglang pumasok ang mha kaibigan ni Kurt, inihanda nila ang mga pagkain na dala nila sa lamesa. Bukod duon ay may tumugtog din na romantic song. 

"Ang swerte mo kay Kurt ikaw ang unang babaeng niligawan niya, ngayon lang din siya nag-effort ng ganito kahit pa hindi siya ang pinili mo. But, still congrats sa inyo." Turan ng isa sa mga kaibigan ni Kurt. 

Wala akong nagawa kundi ang ngumiti dahil aaminin kong tama ang sinabi niya, ang swerte ko sa lalaking iyon. Pero hindi rin ako nagsisisi na si Kelvin ang pinili ko. 

"Kurt really loves you. Maswerte ang babaeng sunod niyang mamahalin." Nakangiting sabi ni Kelvin sa akin kaharap padin ang mga kaibigan ni Kurt. 

"Salamat sa inyo."

Nginitian ako ng mga kaibigan ni Kurt bago sila tuluyang lumabas ng classroom. 

"I love you, Stephanie Alferez."

"I love you too, Kelvin Corpin."

The bell rang as Jae was trying to dry his blazer with the toilet Hand dryer. It was still a little damp but it was wearable. He put it on, slung his bag over his shoulder and made his way to his fifth period English class. 

As he walked through the classroom door he felt some hands slap him on the back of his head, he turned around and saw Derek and one of his lackeys, a kid with a thin ugly face and a lot of acne scarring, his name was Sam. 
When Jae made eye contact with them he instinctively looked down to the floor. 
They laughed as they shoved past him and sat in their seats. 

Jae's knuckles went white, he was clenching his fists so hard, he was so frustrated, but he couldn't do anything he was weak. 
Jae Reed was tall, six foot 1, but he was also extremely skinny and asthmatic. All his life he'd never been able to put on any muscle or gain any weight. Although he wasn't strong Jae didn't have a weak mentality, he had tried to fight back at first, he had punched back at first, he had yelled and sworn out loud. But all his retaliation came back ten times worse. 

Derek Cole did boxing and was also extremely cruel and ruthless. Derek was also really popular. All his mates would come together, and Jae would get surrounded. A single man being able to fight against large numbers was something you only saw in a martial arts movie. Jae wasn't Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee, he was just some skinny teen, so of course, he had gotten the shit beat out of him. After a year of all the abuse, he had realised staying quiet and just taking their bullying made the harassment decrease.

 If he stayed out of their way if he kept his head down then life got a little bearable but he hated it. He hated being the coward, he hated having to be submissive to those Jerks! One of these days he promised himself he really was going to put Derek Cole in his place. 

Jae sighed as he sat down, he said that, but all the training he'd been doing in private hadn't been working. Despite joining a gym and learning kickboxing for the last six months, all he had gotten down was the form. There wasn't enough strength behind his blows and for some strange reason, he wasn't putting on any muscle. 
He had even increased his meals, and gotten a more protein-based diet, but he still wasn't achieving the results he desired. A friend he'd made at the gym would reassure him, saying "Don't worry Jae you have a fast metabolism, and every person has a different journey to fitness, and different body types progress in different ways."

But Jae didn't have time to wait until his body finally formed the muscle strength he required. He wanted to kick all their arses before the end of the school year. After GCSE's some of those dick heads might drop school altogether and go into work or an apprenticeship. Others might not go onto Fair Academy's sixth form and might travel to Sixth form centres or Colleges elsewhere to do their higher education. By the end of the year, he may never see all the arseholes that had harassed him ever again and he'd never get his revenge. 

He wanted to join more mixed martial arts classes but the gym he was currently going to didn't have a big selection, it was a small Gym in Twicking. There was a bigger gym near Fair Academy, but Jae didn't want to risk joining it and be discovered by his bullies. And other better gyms were further out. He didn't have a license yet so he couldn't travel that far, nor did he have enough allowance to sign up for expensive memberships or get the train out to all these places. 

The entire situation was just frustrating. 

"I'm returning your papers from last weeks class test. Some of you did very well, others could have done better." Miss Heather announced. Miss Heather was a tiny lady with a squeaky voice. She had her brunette hair tied up in a bun and she wore an ugly green sweater and appeared quite strict but in fact, she was one of the more caring teachers in the school. She had always looked out for Jae if she saw him being bullied and was the first to report anything. Her kindness was a double-edged sword though, it had probably made him even more harassed in the past. 

Miss Heather came up to Jae's desk and gave him his paper "you did exceptionally well" she said as Jae saw the A+ on top of the essay. 
Before Jae could feel happy with himself he heard Miss Heather say to the class, "English isn't even Jae's first language yet he's doing better than half of the class. This is the top set English class, you all are meant to be the best in the school. After Christmas break Exams will be only months away, I expect everyone to be getting at least an A in the mocks. If you need inspiration look towards Jae."

As she spoke Jae felt the heat of everyone staring at him, he was getting especially venomous looks from the group sitting near Derek on the other side of the classroom. He wanted to dig himself a hole and bury himself inside it. He couldn't believe Miss Heather was saying this, she might as well have kicked him in the face. 

"Be proud of yourself!" Miss Heather said as she patted Jae on the shoulder before she went back to handing out the rest of the papers.

Jae looked up and he saw Derek's cold blue eyes glaring at him. He didn't need to be a mind-reader to know that Derek was planning on beating the shit out of him all over again. 

When the final bell rung, signalling the end of the school day, Jae packed his bag quickly. He didn't want to hang around the school for even a second longer. 

"You all should have written the homework in your diaries, I expect it on my desk on Monday. I hope you all have a good weekend." Miss Heather called out as students fled from her classroom. 

Jae walked out of the classroom doors and was just about to run down the hallways, out the school, and to the train station, but then he felt a hand on his shoulder. 
"Where do you think you're going Mr "A grade" student, don't you think you should hang out with me for a change. You always go straight home, it's no fun." Derek said coldly.
Another arm went around his shoulder, it was Sam, "Yeah Jae come hang with us."

Jae couldn't help but shake, if he left school with them it would be very bad. The last time he'd left school with them they'd taken him to a quiet alley and about six of them had taken turns punching him in the gut. 

"I thought you were hanging out with me today," said a calm voice from behind them. It was Stephanie. 
She had also been in their English class, she casually walked up to Derek and linked arms with him, her breasts pressing against Derek's arm, "Don't be childish." she muttered. 

Jae hated the fact that he was feeling thankful to Stephanie, she was the reason he was in this mess. But if Derek went with her, he would leave him alone. 
Derek had a strange look on his face as he stared at Stephanie, Jae didn't know what was going on between them but Derek looked weirdly angry and annoyed. 
"You're seeing your Dad today, did you forget? We can't hang, plus I and the boys have a fun little outing planned with Jae today. Ain't that right Jae?"

Derek tightened his hold around Jae's shoulder, "Y-yeah that's right" he said reluctantly. Stephanie was giving him a pitiful look. 
"Fine then," she said as she turned away, her platinum blonde hair swaying and following behind her.

"Well aren't you an obedient and good dog." Derek laughed as he led Jae outside the school. As they walked more of Derek's lackeys began to join them. 
As they noticed Sam and Derek walking with Jae they all seemed to laugh, as if they could sense something fun about to happen. 

By the time they walked onto the street, there were ten of Derek's mates hanging around them. Jae had no idea where they were taking him but he knew this Outing wasn't going be fun. 
He felt his stomach knot with fear as he noticed they were walking further and further from the station.  
After a while Jae heard Sam laugh, "We're going to that place aren't we?"
Derek grinned, "I love the fact that you can read my mind, Sammy, you know we're about to have some fun."
"Bois" Derek, yelled, "We're taking Jae to Gallows Park!"

There was a brief pause before his boys started laughing. 
"You're sick Derek"
"Lol"
"Jae's gonna get fucked."
"This is fucking messed up."

Jae didn't know what or where Gallows Park was, but their reactions made him less than optimistic.

Jae Reed is your average social reject getting bullied at school. He keeps his head low, but he wishes for the power and strength to make everyone respect him. 
That's when he meets a mysterious-gluttonous-foodie Martial Arts Master, who calls himself "Lord". In exchange for providing Lord with three meals a day, Lord will train him to kick some ass.

I'd enrolled the Christ the King College in the beginning of the year.

Since I'd completed the eleventh grade at a Catholic school, my mother had wanted me to continue my studies at a Catholic institution, and Christ the King had been her choice. I didn't mind it either way.

The sound of the bell made me run once again. The first class of the morning was English Literature and the teacher was particularly demanding with regard to punctuality.

"Morning, Mari!" I followed the voice that had called me and made sure I smiled.

"Morning, Steph. Late as always, I see," I remarked, fully aware that that morning I could hardly criticize her, but she shrugged unconcerned.

"I hate English Literature. Especially early in the morning," she replied, running to catch up to me, before I opened the classroom door just in time for the second bell.

Our teacher, Mr. Frederich, raised his narrowed eyes from the class enrollment list and gave us a cold, unpleasant look.

"Late as always, Miss Stephanie Waters! And it would seem your bad influence is starting to rub off on your friends as well. Miss Mariane Mellis! I should warn you that if you are going to start following your friend's bad example you'll end up seeing your grades plunge until they are also the same!"

"I'm terribly sorry. It won't happen again," I quickly apologized, and with an unpleasant frown he had no choice but to let us in.

"Hurry up and take your seats! Quietly!" he grumbled and we obeyed as fast as humanly possible.

"Stupid annoying old man. I hate him as much as he hates me!" Steph said under her breath as she pulled the chair beside me and I smiled wryly praying he hadn't heard her just now. Joanne Baits however, sitting right in front of Steph, was an entirely different matter, and she smiled amusingly as she turned back in her chair.

"And then? What was it this morning? The cat? Your brother? The bus?" she asked, trying to guess the excuse Steph had prepared.

Steph shrugged. "Fell asleep. I was watching this movie until late last night and didn't hear the alarm go off," she answered while opening her book and Joanne laughed lightly.

"Oh my, Steph being honest," she teased and turned to the front before she could be scolded as well. I smiled as Steph sighed, bored to death, and opened my book to page forty-seven to follow the text being read.

Stephanie Waters was the only girl in school I'd dare call a friend. In truth it was almost as if she'd somehow adopted me. Stephanie, Joanne and Joe Rider were all childhood friends, attending the same schools since forever, and Steph had been the first person to talk to me in the beginning of the year, when I'd been completely alone, being the new girl and all.

The complete opposite of me, Steph had wavy dark hair, which fell softly around her delicate face. Her olive-colored eyes changed shades according to the light. And her skin was smooth and pinkish. Much taller than me, her body was the envy of many girls our age and everything she wore fit her perfectly, almost as if she were some magazine model. She was funny, outgoing and generally well liked, and there was no one who didn't know her. Steph had pulled me into her group of friends and was my daily savior, filling up the space I couldn't fill due to my usual lack of appropriate words or knowledge, as far as interesting conversation subjects were concerned. Thanks to Steph my otherwise nonexistent social life always managed to have some color.

The morning went by the same as usual.

After English Literature came Philosophy. Neither Joanne nor Steph were in that class, so I shared my desk with Kevin London, another boy from our group.

Kevin was the quietest of them, no one knowing exactly what he thought about the rest of the world. Together we were the absurd of the lack of subject, since the words we exchanged were always so few. But I still couldn't help feel at ease near him, and his company was much more pleasant than that of the other boys from school.

When lunchtime finally came we met Steph and Joanne again, in the cafeteria, where we took our places at our group's usual table. The conversation became immediately livelier and, as always, I followed Steph while she told us about the movie that had kept her awake the previous night.

Like always, Joe immediately started picking on Joanne, making her give him her full attention instead of listening to what Steph was saying. Albert Clayton was whispering something apparently funny in Sarah Trent's, his new girlfriend, ear. She laughed softly, her cheeks pink and her eyes bright blue. Kevin had his nose stuck in a book, which quickly became Steph's target since Joanne wasn't paying her attention. I just made sure I kept on smiling.

Again that feeling ...

It was as if I was there but wasn't. As if I was one of them, but in truth something completely different. As if that was my reality, but at the same time I was a mere spectator of some strange movie. As if, for a moment, my world had stopped turning while theirs went on, slowly leaving me behind.

"Mari!" Steph's voice woke me from my digressions. "We were talking about going to Oxford Street tomorrow, after school. Want to come? Anyway, you always spend your afternoons home alone, right? Why don't you leave your books behind for a change?" she asked with her typical liveliness. Although we'd only met a few months ago, I had to concede that Steph knew me all too well. Her arguments left me no way to politely refuse her invitation, which, to top it all, had made me uncomfortably the center of everyone's attention.

"Ok," I just answered, forcing a smile, and the talk immediately became all about the shops we absolutely had to go to. The boys offered to accompany us, making Sarah happy and Joanne frown in disapproval, since that meant Joe was coming too, to torment her all afternoon. They talked about our impending afternoon all throughout lunch, but my mind had been elsewhere ever since I'd sat down with my food tray. I focused on eating everything I'd bought as fast as I could and it only took me the whole of ten minutes to be done with it, soup and desert included.

Standing up, I hopped no one would notice my absence, but Steph didn't allow me to leave that easily.

"Going already?" she asked, knowing all too well where I was headed, and I blushed, nodding. "Good luck then!" she added, winking, and I walked away with my empty tray before anyone else could question me about my destination.

After placing the tray on its rightful place, I ran from the cafeteria towards the north building and out into the cold, pale day. The wind that cut through my clothes made me shiver and hold my breath for an instant. But a second later none of that mattered anymore. Because there he was — Michael Heaton.

His smile froze me instantly in place and all I could do was watch him from where I stood. As always, Michael was surrounded by his usual group. At the time they seemed to be talking about something amusing and, even though I was too far away to hear them, I noticed his sandwich had been forgotten, his attention completely focused on what one of the other boys was saying.

Forcing myself to take a few steps as the glass door to the cafeteria building closed behind me, I sat down in the middle of the small stairway just to merely look at him.

Michael was simply ... perfect.

His blond hair was soft and shiny. His green eyes seemed to glow. And his warm and purely wonderful smile made my heart beat like crazy, so much so that I wondered if those who walked by me were able to hear it. At about six-feet tall, he had long, well-built legs and his movements were incredibly smooth. Just watching him, even from a distance, brought a new light into my day, making me positively certain that it was really good to be alive after all.

Michael was one grade above mine, even though he was two years older. He'd also enrolled in Christ the King at the beginning of the year and it had been during the opening ceremony that I'd laid my eyes on him for the first time. He'd instantly become one of the most popular guys in school but he still didn't seem to take any pride in that.

From what I'd heard, Michael had been in some kind of accident and had been hospitalized for almost a year. And even though he seemed completely recovered, he'd apparently lost his memory. For a long time the police had looked for someone who could recognize him, someone from his family, a home to where he could return to. But no one had come forth. Around that time Father Jorge, who was visiting a family member in the same hospital, learned about his case and decided to become Michael's guardian, enrolling him in Christ the King.

Despite his unfortunate situation however, Michael always had a bright smile on his face, and was cheery and friendly towards everyone. Besides attending classes, he assisted Father Jorge at Friday mass, which led me to visit the school's chapel quite regularly.

It was impossible to deny that I was completely in love with him. I knew his routines by heart, the classes he took, his schedule and habits. He usually brought lunch from home trying to save up some money, probably not wanting to weigh too heavily on Father Jorge who now looked after him. He always ate lunch outside, under the trees. And although bringing your own lunch from home could definitely be seen as uncool for anyone else, no one seemed to think the first thing about that where Michael was concerned. Everyone had naturally accepted it.

Luckily, most of my classes took place in the same building as his, although his classroom was on another floor.

Even so, lunch period was the only time I dared take a few moments to simply stare at him, hoping my freaky behavior might go unnoticed. As to be expected from someone shy and introverted like me, my low self-esteem would never allow me to even speak to someone as popular as him, much less confess my feelings, no matter how much Steph insisted on it.

As I sat on those stairs, dazedly watching his every move, time quickly went by. And so I was startled by the sound of the bell that forced me out of my waking dream and made me quickly jump to my feet. Usually I'd be gone before the bell rang, so that no one would notice my unwanted presence. This time, however, when I looked up Michael and his friends were already walking in my direction, making me panic.

I spun around before he could take a real look at my face and hastily ran up the stairs. But, in my clumsiness, my boot slipped on the last step. The only thing I recall is the feeling of time being stopped, and of me slowly falling on my back. A shout rang in my ears and something warm cushioned my fall. At first I was too dizzy and confused to understand what had happened, but the sound of voices soon became clear in my mind and started to make sense again.

"Michael! You're all right?"

Panicking once again I noticed the arms firmly closed around me, that I was sitting on the ground, and that I wasn't alone!

"I'm OK. Don't worry." A soft warm voice answered so close to my ear that my heart skipped a beat, leaving me petrified. "Hi! Are you all right?" His arms released me and when I turned towards his voice I saw him kneeling right beside me, his perfect face painfully close to mine. Michael was worried about me. "Did you get hurt?" he asked once again and I shook my head, mesmerized by his gaze. Still stupefied, I watched him stand up and offer his hand to help me.

Still shaky, I tried my best to accept his help, since I was sure I'd never be able to move again. And his big, warm hand surrounded mine, swiftly pulling me back to my feet.

"You sure you're all right? Maybe I should take you to the infirmary just in case," he suggested and I wished I could lower my gaze and hide my blushed cheeks, but I simply wasn't able to turn away from his green eyes.

"No ... I'm fine, thank you," I answered in a low voice, wondering how I'd been able to speak without stammering, and he smiled, breaking my heart into several tiny pieces.

"Good. That could've been a serious fall," he noted, measuring the stairs with a critical look. "Hmm, were you lost? Looking for someone?" he asked me again in a helpful tone and I shook my head, commanding my voice to be heard.

"Was going to class ... History."

As expected he didn't even know I existed. And going by his question he'd probably thought I belonged to some other school and had gone there looking for my older brother or something like that. And to think I'd been so worried about him noticing me, sitting daily on those stairs.

To confirm my suspicions his expression was one of surprise, but a friendly smile immediately took over his face.

"Which grade?"

"Twelfth."

"Ah, a year below ours. My name is Michael," he introduced himself as if there was anyone in school that didn't know him.

"Mariane," I replied in kind and the second bell rang, dragging us both back to reality.

"Damn! We're late!" one of the other boys said rushing inside and the rest followed him, leaving me still dazed.

"Come!" His voice rang in my ears as if it were a dream and the hand that still held mine pulled me along, making me run as well. When I realized we were already on the first floor, and his hand released mine leaving me temporarily lost and cold. "Your classroom is here, right?" he asked and all I could do was nod. "Mine is upstairs. See you around," he added, blinding me once more with his smile, and, releasing my hand, turned around and climbed the stairs leading to the next floor.

I hardly listened to anything said in History class. There was the slight remembrance of Steph's inquisitive look due to my tardiness. I know she asked me about it, but I can't recall my answer. My head was somewhere else. And, by the time class was over, I could still feel the warmth of his hand on mine and the scent of his skin where he'd touched me, the same scent that had surrounded me when he'd put his arms around me to break my fall.

The sound of his voice rang in my ears and I prayed that those memories would remain engraved in my mind for all eternity.

It was in that near-sleepwalking state that I said goodbye to my friends and returned home. From our group, I was the only one who lived at a walking distance from school, which thankfully allowed me to enjoy a few moments of peace and quiet when commuting to and from school.

As expected, no one was home to greet me, but for the first time since we'd moved in I didn't miss the sound of the operas my father often played in the house.

I went up to my room and dropped my bag on the desk, lying on the bed with a sigh. I could hardly believe my day.
