'So you know what Luke and Spooky are trying to do, Yurei?' Andrea asked since she only imitated her cousin's action but didn't have the damn slightest on what she was doing. Thankfully she had a ghost girl that patiently guided her along the way.
'I see the stuff in this cauldron is attempting to form into what could be called some sort of medical item, most likely a pill. In fact, I think Spooky wants to go one step farther.' Yurei informed Andrea, sensing the refinement process down to its last detail.
For Spooky and Yurei, this was beyond a simple task for them despite it being their first time attempting something like this.
"Lingxi, Yun pour all of those herbs in the cauldron now. We're going to get started now." Luke called out to them after Spooky suggested it to him. Only a couple of seconds of silence pass when the cousin touches the cauldron, and now Xiao Lingxi and Xiao Yun got jolted from their stupor.
Walking over to the cauldron, they both lit up their spatial rings, dumping all of their herbs in the cauldron. Immediately the concoction inside the cauldron turned brighter, exuding more purer energy.
"Luke, did you even read up on any pills recipe or formulas of how to even perform alchemy at least?" Xiao Lingxi asked in genuine concern as unknown to the cousins' World Spiritists alchemy wasn't easy at all.
There were several procedures one would have to follow, such as checking the quality of the herbs, the nature of the room they were in, and knowing the specific way each pill is created, among other things.
Yet Luke and Andrea merely jumped into this without any preparations! 
"Let our actions speak for itself, Lingxi." 
Luke told, and immediately both cousins felt the ghost girls began the process. Inside the cauldron, powerful but gentle blue cloak soul Spirit Power took hold of the refinement. Everything inside the cauldron froze like time stop, allowing the ghost girls to delve their senses deeper to make this pill.
'So all we need to do is flow our power this way, and the pill is done, hmm...' Spooky hummed to herself as from their soul she glanced at the beautiful Xiao Lingxi and Xia Qingyue. A light bulb went off in her mind as said to Luke,
'Say I'm going to create two of these... what's it called? Earth pills? Yea, and you're going to give them to the girls as offering for your date with them.' Her tone was the usual calm, and even but Luke could pick up on a hint of mischief in her.
'I wouldn't really call it a date, we're just getting to know each other better. Although...creating two pills is better than one.' Instantly Spooky directed the flow of the refinement a different way, something which Yurei immediately caught on.
'Oh? Spooky trying to do two pills, so don't get surprised. Like usual, she planning her steps far ahead.' Planning far ahead? Andrea got a bit confused about the last part. It more looked like Spooky was just planning ahead for Luke.
She didn't need to be a genius to know why Spooky was creating two pills, especially thinking about her curse. But the question that did remain was, what is her endgame with those two girls? Although given that she was fused with Luke, who isn't inherently violent, Andrea didn't worry much, but she would question it later.
'Alright, honestly, I'm kind of curious what plans she does have for little Luke.' 
"Ah! They're actually doing it! Do you guys smell it?" Xia Yuanba had exclaimed in surprise once witnessing Luke and Andrea start their own way of alchemy. In the air, a pleasant aroma doused the space, and from the cauldron, the youths saw multi-color steam rise out of it.
"Not only that, but this pill smells of a surprisingly high-quality level!" In his life, Xiao Yun encounters and smells various kinds of quality pills, but he rarely meets a high-quality pill smell. He wasn't sure if that even was the official term for it, yet he could tell whatever the cousin was making stood above average.
"It's definitely the highest quality! I can tell it even matches some of the best pills Father has." Xiao Lingxi recalled her own experiences with pills, and the freshness she sensed and smell now most certainly match her past.
"Yuanba this...it has to be at least high Earthly rank, right? No, I can sense it may even go up to Heavenly rank! To think this is their first time performing..." Xia Qingyue's words got Yuanba to realize the cousins also have massive potential in alchemy. He had already sensed the pill's value rank, but he could never claim on his first try he performed so flawlessly. 
If only they knew what true kind of freaks they were dealing with...
'PA!'
Popping noises came from the cauldron suddenly, and the refinement energy swirled in a rhythmic motion. Then like a fountain, the multi-color energy shot up in the air! Smoothly blue cloak soul Spirit Power wrapped around the refinement energy splitting it into two halves.
And under the awe gazes of the youths, the refinement energy mixed together with the Spirit Power, quickly transforming into two blue pills.
'BANG!'
Like a loud gunshot, the pills blasted exuberant life energy, making all there feel as if they just been energized. The Earth Spirit Pill had formed! Slowly the two pills floated down to Luke's hands since Andrea wasn't going to take them.
The process was all too simple. Spooky and Yurei merely directed a tiny portion of their soul power to what the cauldron was attempting to make. And because Spooky wanted two pills, she applied a bit of her curse lightning to give it that extra boost.
Honestly, their soul was too magical to describe! Even Luke was in a bit of awe knowing just like that; they can control refinement energy and easily create pills. Looking up from his pills, he caught the other four, all staring at his hands.
The others felt their pores open, and like warming, energy relaxed their bodies. These pills were far beyond than they could ever expect!
"Not one but two! You're amazing, Luke and Andrea!" Xiao Lingxi shouted in wonder along with the others awe faces. They didn't even know it was possible to create two pills at the same time!
"Oh, Yuanba, you don't mind if I give these pills to Qingyue and Linxgi, right?" Luke asked since this was something he was initially working on. Luke also notice neither of the Xia siblings seems to mind the subtle way of change he called them.
"You two are the ones who actually made the pill, so go right ahead! I was going to give it to Big sis anyway if I had created the pill." Yuanba had a broad smile agreeing to Luke's question. The big reason he does practice alchemy was mainly so he could help out his family and friends. So how could deny such a simple request?
"Eh? You really want to give one to me?" 
Xiao Lingxi was a bit touch and slightly confused. After all, she could understand giving one to Xia Qingyue since their sole purpose of coming here was to help Yuanba.
But he didn't need to give up the other pill. After all, he and his cousin went beyond the ordinary limit and created two pills simultaneously! In all intents and purposes, either one of the cousins should be the one to have the extra pill and yet...
"Naturally, I do! Think of it as a small gift for when hangout tomorrow." 
Without giving Xiao Lingxi a chance to refuse, Luke gently grabbed her hand and shoved the pill in it while he was talking. The familiar soothing sensation coarse through their bodies as their hands connected, and Luke sincerely smiled at her.
"Th-then I'll gladly accept this gift, Luke!" Her heart was pounding, her face was blushing, but Xiao Lingxi felt extremely happy from this simple gesture. Luke didn't even hesitate to give it to her with the warmest of smiles.
"And here you go, Qingyue, a starting gift for you two. I'm looking forward to hanging out with you." Luke had walked up to Xia Qingyue after giving Xiao Lingxi a gentle squeeze on her hand, making the girl face even brighter.
Similar to Xiao Lingxi, Luke tenderly grabbed her small soft hands and shoved the pill in it. That new odd, soothing sensation invaded Xia Qingyue's mind and body again. Her beautiful face blushed as she said,
"I'll see to it you don't forget it then..." 
Her voice drifted at the end as she got surprised at what she blurted out. This would be the first time Qingyue had ever agree to spend time with a boy her age, a boy she met on the same day no less!
Yet she couldn't find it in her to regret her words or even dislike the thought of hanging with Luke; in fact, that thought seemed quite good to her...
"But brother Luke you have to teach me or at least show how you just easily created two pills! Not even from the books I read talks about two pills creation at the same time."
Xia Yuanba had suddenly called out to Luke while he was amused by the shy blushing expression of Qingyue who couldn't even meet his eyes. 'These novels seriously don't do these girls justice! They're unimaginably cute!' Luke thought as he turned around to answer any question Yuanba had.
'At this rate, it won't be long before little Luke finally crosses that final threshold. Though I wonder with that girl around what will happen then.' Andrea thought to herself while she obverse the other five merrily talking.
'Just know it isn't anything bad. It will be funny to see your reaction then.' Yurei suddenly spoke, making Andrea smirk.
'Keeping secrets now we eh? Well, then I'll keep my hopes high when it does happen then.'

In front of nicely design tall structure building, Luke, Andrea, Xiao Yun, and Xiao Lingxi was standing outside talking with each other. The building was the Floating Cloud inn and where the cousin will be spending the nights. Few hours have passed since the cousin, and the Xiao's left the Xia manor, and Luke can conclude it was a roaring success.
He could tell he and Yuanba will get along great because of Yuanba's inherently kind nature, and he felt good for making such a lasting impression on Xia Qingyue. Even when they were leaving, he caught Qingyue staring at him with a faint blush mumbling something.
In which Spooky told him she said 'see you later.' And as well, Spooky informed when they were leaving Senior Dongxue watching them. But because she didn't have any negative intention, Spooky told him not to worry about it.
"Honestly, we don't have these crystal bead for no reason we can pay for our stay here." Luke was nonchalantly shrugging his shoulder, but Xiao Lingxi had a stern expression.
"Nope! This is the least I can do for helping me-Us! An-and you gotta get a good night's sleep so we can enjoy tomorrow!" She hurriedly said, trying to hide the rush of embarrassment from such words.
"If she wants to, she wants to Luke. Besides, let's get settled in, we have some important cousin stuff to talk about." Andrea told Luke while fiddling around with her sword. If it's a free lunch, then it's a free lunch! She thought as things always felt better when it was free.
"Fine, fine. Well, I guess we could just meet up here in the inn if you want to?" To his question, Xiao Lingxi happily nodded saying,
"That'll be great! You better not keep a girl waiting, Luke!" 
"I wouldn't dream of keeping a charming girl like you waiting. Later you two." Luke waved at them while walking inside the inn.
"I'll be seeing you two around," Andrea said in a sinister tone of voice but had also kindly waved at them, following Luke inside.
"See you, guys." Xiao Yun called out while waving and looking to his left, where he expected his aunt to say something, only she was dazedly staring at Luke back.
"Ling'er it's only a few hours before you see him again, you know?" Instantly Xiao Lingxi jumped, hearing the teasing voice of her nephew.
"Ah! I know! Let's just get back to the clan." She briskly walked ahead of Xiao Yun, who only smiled at her antics.
"Ling'er...Luke, he's a really nice guy. I'm sure just being honest will help you out a lot." Xiao Yun suddenly spoke up, giving out his advice. It was evident for him to tell Xiao Lingxi might have a small, no big crush on Luke.
And given everything they saw from him and his cousin, he couldn't necessarily fault her for it. Furthermore, Luke himself is mainly honest and straightforward. He never once saw him getting embarrassed or stumbling on his words to say what he was honestly thinking.
"W-W-What are you saying to your aunt?! Hmph! B-but being more honest wouldn't be bad, right?" Xiao Lingxi began mumbling to herself as Xiao Yun knew she would think about his words.
In her heart, no matter what she hopes tomorrow will go over well and mentally, she began preparing her confidence, so she doesn't fumble up.

You know we have a lot of expensive equipment in that room. Could you clean up the room and lock the door? I will find someone to bring the keys to you. He will be there in around twenty minutes. You can keep the keys with you," Mr. Zhang instructed.
"OK. I will go," Dai Li said. He packed his stuff then moved towards the gate keeper's.
It actually took Dai Li more than half an hour to finally get the keys. The man apologized for being late, and explained that it was due to a traffic jam.
Daytime was short in the winter. In addition, Qingcheng City was an east coast city, so it was already dark. Dai Li had to walk towards the laboratory building under dim street lights.
Burr. So cold today. Dai Li shivered as a cold wind blew. In reality, the coldness he felt was more psychological than physical . Since there were no students on campus, walking alone in an empty school led to an illusion of chilliness.

Just a few funny interviews, involving my characters from all the stories... Please do take it lightly!!!

Under the street lights, Hao Ren picked up the wolf fur which he found on the ground. Despite being drenched in cold sweat, he managed to regain his composure quickly thanks to the ‘training’ he had in numerous past encounters . He first wanted to make sure that there were no other suspicious signs within the vicinity—a lesson he learned while spending the previous two days with Lily and Vivian. The presence of ‘the other kind’ could usually be detected simply by identifying the characteristic signs and phenomena. For example, the breath and beastly smell of a werewolf or the blood-tinged chill of a vampire. He felt that the dream had to somehow be related to ‘the other kind’ (after all, he had bumped into many of them during the last couple of days) although, his sixth sense detected no trace of any anomalies.

"Landlord?" Lily looked at him, her eyes appeared unusually bright and spooky in the dark. "What’s wrong?" she asked.

"Did you find anything amiss?" Hao Ren knew that the wolf was a highly vigilant creature. He could still vividly remember the moment of the wolf’s attack in his dream.

Lily got down on the floor and sniffed around carefully. After that, she got up and shook her head. "None that I could find. Everything is as usual. You saw  something unusual?"

"Never mind, let’s head back." Hao Ren took the wolf fur in his hand as he headed back home. Lily carried the deckchair and followed cluelessly from behind.

Back in the living room, Hao Ren sat on the sofa looking solemn and quiet. Sitting across him were Lily and Vivian who did not have a clue what was brewing in his mind. An old coffee table had been placed in the middle by Hao Ren as the previous one was wrecked by Lily and Vivian earlier on. Placing the wolf fur on the table, Hao Ren confessed to Vivian, "I saw something strange."

He talked about the strange dream he had in great detail. He told them especially about the vast grassland and two silver moons, hanging in the sky. "I got this when I woke up from the dream. I may have taken a shortcut to the other side or mastered reality warping superpowers," he joshed, pointing at the wolf fur.
Vivian did not find it amusing. She raised her eyebrows while picking up some of fur from the table. "It has the smell of an animal, not of black magic. This is definitely animal hair. Hey, big dog! Can you please confirm this?"

"Okay!" Lily took the wolf fur. "It smells very different from what I know. It has a different scent... the smell of another city—a mixture of soil and grass in it.  This subtle variance can only be picked up by werewolves." Then suddenly, it hit her. She banged the table as she  lashed out at Vivian, "Wait a minute, who did you just call a big dog?!" 

"Oh c’mon, be gentle!" Hao Ren pleaded. The old table could have met with the same fate as the tea table if Lily was in a transformed state instead. He turned  to Vivian, "So, what do you think? Was it some kind of magic?"

"It’s pretty simple to explain if it’s just a dream; sorcery and hypnotism could have achieved the same thing." Vivian’s eyebrows were still raised. "I could build a dream world big enough for hundreds to dream in without them realizing it was a dream. If one was creative enough, the person would believe he had made it to the other side. But I still can’t explain the object you brought out from the dream. As far as I know at least, there isn’t any magic which could have done that. It couldn’t possibly be magic. The dark side is a much more complicated world than I had imagined."

"Maybe, it could be this..." Lily eagerly interjected. "First, he was induced into a premeditated dream by way of sorcery or hypnosis, and the wolf fur could have been planted in his hand while he was asleep..."

"Oh please, can you say something more constructive?" Vivian chimed in before Lily could finish her sentence.

However, Hao Ren found that what Lily said was completely plausible. Her simple mind aside, her theory was a perfect explanation for what could have been an unsolvable mystery. Sometimes complex questions had simple answers.

Nonetheless, Lily had already ruled out the involvement of ‘the other kind’ so, her argument that it was a premeditated act did not hold up.
"I’m sure that what I got into was of something unusual; as sure as I am that God made little, green apples." Hao Ren sighed. "That’s just fate. Whatever comes, let it come but before that, I need to take a break!"

Both Lily and Vivian had learned that Hao Ren was conned into signing a fishy employment agreement with the self-proclaimed Goddess. Vivian was a smart girl—way smarter than Lily. She could see in Hao Ren the quality of extraordinary adaptability and guts as well as the ability to think on his feet despite his humble background as a sluggish youth, who wanted no trouble. Yet, Vivian did not know any ways to make him a superhuman overnight.

"Did Raven 12345 leave you any cheat codes or something?" Lily asked as she laid her face on the table. "I read from human novels that if you work for a God, the God will provide you with some kind of personal protective gears?"

"Hmm, she may have forgotten. I didn’t ask either," he said as it just crossed his mind. "I’ll ask when I see her. Anyway, I tried to call but I couldn’t reach her cellphone. I guess another trip to that place is necessary. I have a goddamn feeling that the Space Administration is a broken reed."

"You already had your first, strange dream. You need to fix the problem right at the source. I think it’s a day late and a dollar short now. As per sorcery norms, you’ll continue to experience the same dream again unless, you’re a bullfrog that doesn’t sleep." As Vivian talked, she slowly shapeshifted into a vampire. "I’ll give you an amulet. It will protect you from whatever sorcery or black magic."

The many talismans she wore caught Hao Ren’s eyes. "Do those things even work?" he asked cheekily.

"Who said that I was going to give you that?" Vivian’s eyebrows were raised. "What I mean is the power of the Blood Clan!"

Without hesitation, Vivian bit her finger and a drop of golden red blood was seen coming out from her fingertip. "Come over, I’m going to rub it on the back of your hand. It’s powerful enough to stop the worst sorcerous dream."
Hao Ren hesitantly reached out and looked on as Vivian rubbed the blood onto his hand. "Legend has it that vampire blood can help turn humans into vampires. So, am I being turned right now?"

"Not in a million years," she sneered. "Humans believed that a vampire bite is the vampire’s way to reproduce. If that’s true, we wouldn’t have to endure the persecution from the monster hunters and the church. We would have taken over the world since the bronze age."
While relating the history of human’s brutal persecution of the vampires, Vivian as a vampire herself, did not show signs of hostility towards Hao Ren.

"That’s impossible!"

Vivian yelled as she was shocked to see the drop of blood had disappeared the moment it made contact with Hao Ren’s hand.

The blood was completely absorbed.


As a person who is down-to-earth as well as a good Samaritan, Hao Ren desires to live the rest of his life as a benevolent landlord. Stumbling into a curious yet mysterious lady, he began his journey of “collecting” abnormal and supernatural tenants.

The documentary was still being made, but its marketing campaign had already kicked off. The first step in the campaign, a three-minute trailer, drew quite a bit of attention because of the Fang Zhao effect.
"So I hear that Fang Zhao wrote the score for the trailer? That's awesome. Are there any music professionals out there? How is the score? Let's hear some professional analysis."
"I'm not a professional and I can't offer professional comment, but I think the score sounds good. Coupled with the trailer, it's quite a moving combination. Sigh, it's not easy being a Hull-virus patient or the family member of one."
"Are there any Hull-virus-related charity events going on? I want to donate to the researchers, but I can't find anything online. I wonder if they have enough funding? I hear the treatments they offer are all free."
"There's no need for donations. The major research institutes behind the cure are all backed by major investment funds. Such an important project like curing the Hull virus isn't short on funding. What they lack is the right talent."
"It's time to study medicine. No, I mean to study music, so we can save lives like Fang Zhao."
"Let's be down-to-earth and stick to medicine. After all, only one Fang Zhao has surfaced in the 500-odd years of the New Era."
Other folks had other concerns.
"The director of the documentary said that the score was an in-kind donation from Fang Zhao. Does that mean Fang Zhao composed a song for the documentary without charging a single cent?"
"Something like that. After all, documentary filmmakers need to hire folks to compose their scores. Master-level musicians don't come cheap at all."
"Fang Zhao's market value is something to be reckoned with, no? A commissioned piece from him should cost at least 10 million dollars, no? I remember he sold a piece for 10 million at one point. That's 10 million we're talking about! And he made the offer without a thought."
"Ten million is low. How long ago was that? His fee will definitely go up now that he's won the Supernova Award. Plus he is immensely popular now. The filmmakers behind the documentary clearly wanted to use Fang Zhao to draw attention. I don't know what level of artistic mastery Fang Zhao has reached right now, but in terms of market value, he must command a lot more than 10 million, at least twice as much. The director of the documentary was smart. Think about how much of his marketing budget he saved with Fang Zhao's gift."
"Fang Zhao is like a god. One moment he's taking the gaming world by storm, the other he's mining and battling beasts on a foreign planet. Before you know it, he's starring in a blockbuster TV series—and his songs can cure diseases? I haven't rested my knees since the day I started following this star."
"I wonder what Fang Zhao will endorse next."
For most people, the curing of the Hull virus was just a casual topic of conversation. They quickly moved onto something else, even though it was widely covered by major news outlets and there was the Fang Zhao factor. Anything that didn't concern their immediate interests was trivial. They would move on after dwelling on it briefly.
Meanwhile, the Hull-virus patients and their immediate families treated Fang Zhao as a savior. Ming Cang had said in public on many occasions that he would lend Fang Zhao his unconditional support on many matters. Their gratitude was not something outsiders could comprehend.
Due to the latest round of saturated news coverage, the four movements of the "100-Year Period of Destruction" series, which folks dubbed the key to curing the Hull virus, rose in value.
Silver Wing Media, Fang Zhao's management company, took advantage as well. Polar Light, the first-generation Silver Wing virtual idol that was already somewhat passe, started trending within Yanzhou again.
Online discussion picked up as well.
"Does Fang Zhao own the rights to the four movements of his '100-Year Period of Destruction' series or does Silver Wing? Has he sold the rights to any of the movements?"
"If not, I'm thinking their market value has just doubled." 
"Bullsh*t! I think it at least tripled."
"Speaking of which, I remember that idiot from Leizhou, Mr. Z, bought the rights to the third movement for a movie of his."
"Are you talking about Zaro, that generator of trashy movies? A crappy film paired with a godly score. What an insult!"
"We Leizhou natives are used to it."
"I just searched for that Zaro movie and watched it. To be perfectly honest, the part of the film that used the third movement of the '100-Year Period of Destruction' score kind of stood out. It was quite good. The scenes were especially epic and mindblowing. Those armored vehicles were the real thing!"
"Really? Let me search for it too. What's the name of the movie?"
"It's called 'God of War'."
So viewers dug out and watched a film that even Zaro himself had forgotten about. Within a short time frame, the film racked up enough fresh views to push it into the top 10 on Leizhou's biggest video-streaming website.
When Zaro saw the data his agent showed him, he was blown away.
"This hardcore? That can't be the case. In terms of driving traffic, I can certainly rival Fang Zhao!" Zaro was convinced there was something wrong with the data.
Zaro's agent stared at his client with a blank expression. "Why don't you read the news more often? You've barely been skimming the entertainment headlines recently," he said as he brought up stories from major news outlets about the Hull virus and Fang Zhao's Supernova win on his tablet.
Zaro scanned the stories quickly. He looked like he had just witnessed a 10-ton elephant take off in flight.
Lately, Zaro had been busy reading several novels and scripts that Woo Tianhao had passed to him. The duo had had a good time dabbling in garlic speculation and now were planning on investing in a movie project together.
The past two days, Zaro had been mulling over how to use garlic to improve his acting. Then he'd heard about the spike in the views of "God of War."
Zaro also read some of the online comments, which left him fuming.
"What do they mean that donating to charity is better than splurging on a crappy movie? I spend my money how I like. How am I getting in their way by having a good time? Did I dip into their savings? I've never been late on a single tax payment. These folks have nothing better to fidget over."
"It's 'fuss over'."
"Huh?"
"Forget it, fidget it is, then." Zaro's agent tried to calm his client, who had rolled up his sleeves and was gearing up for a war of words. "Cool down, Senior Master! You know, no amount of words is a substitute for action. You have to let everyone know that you have ambition too." 
Zaro interrupted his agent immediately. "I'm well-off and hail from a powerful family. What's wrong with talking about scoring chicks, reading novels, and speculating on garlic? Why are you talking to me about ambition?"
Zaro's agent: "..." Are you trying to piss me to death so you can go shopping for a new agent?
Oblivious to the terrified look on his agent's face, Zaro felt he had been maligned. He felt that he had been on good behavior, keeping a low profile. Who could have known that he'd get attacked for holing up at home reading novels?
"It's all Fang Zhao's fault!" Still, Zaro was full of confidence. "Just wait until this business about the Hull virus dies down. Fang Zhao won't be trending again. Without government media taking the lead—and given how quickly entertainment headlines change—who's gonna remember him in a few days?"
The agent had no qualms about taking Zaro down a notch. "Festival and awards season is about to begin. Fang Zhao did a good job in 'Founding Era.' It's very likely he'll pick up an award."
"Film festivals? Let me be clear: I'm not going to attend any that aren't high class enough."
The agent: "..." Who the f*ck cares whether you attend or not? None of the prestigious festivals sent you invites on their own initiative. I had to use my connections to get them.
But all Zaro's agent did was keep these thoughts to himself. If he actually voiced them, Zaro would be royally pissed off. Zaro's agent never bothered volunteering information that upset his boss.
But just as Zaro's agent had pointed out, Fang Zhao was flooded with invites from film festivals big and small from all around the world. He had only been in a TV series and had yet to appear in a movie, but he still got invitations from film festivals. Some of the organizers were hoping to work with him on projects, while others wanted to hitch a ride on his recent star power. But Fang Zhao turned down most of the invites. He was busy.
The Twelve Tones program was not a walk in the park. The course load wasn't heavy, but there were a ton of assignments. After penning the song for the Hull-virus documentary, he had to write a lengthy paper. The paper accounted for a big chunk of his grade. If he didn't achieve a certain GPA, he wouldn't be able to graduate.
Nanfeng had briefed him on the online commentary, but Fang Zhao hadn't paid much attention. Even though there were plenty of news stories about him, this much he and Zaro agreed on: it would die down in a few days.
Even though all these TV and film festivals were coming up, some of which Fang Zhao would attend, by that time, every celebrity would be angling for a piece of the action. The publicity teams for many top stars had been gearing up already, but who knew this Hull virus business would land Fang Zhao in the entertainment headlines again. But that was a fluke. These crack teams were going to go all out in the days that followed. Let's see who shines the brightest on the red carpet eventually. After such an extended shoot on Planet Wai, many members of the "Founding Era" cast felt it was their turn in the limelight.
Yet no one, including Fang Zhao, would have guessed that the name that was slowly being crowded out would dominate entertainment headlines once again a week later.
A week later, Fang Zhao's neighbor Will finally emerged from hiding.
He had been holed up in his dorm room for seven straight days. Apart from attending to his bodily functions, all Will had done was paint. By the time he left his room, he was a shade of his previous self, barely able to stand on all fours. He had lost a ton of weight, as if he had just survived a major illness, yet he was in great spirits and looked relaxed.
Will showed his painting to his adviser after emerging from hiding.
The first time the old professor laid eyes on the painting, he was so shocked that he struggled to find words.
The crooked outline looked quite over-the-top, but somehow, it came together nicely. The extensive use of black, in contrast to the white canvas, lent passion and mystique to the piece, which was so dynamic and full of tension. If someone stared at the painting, they would feel as if they had just succumbed to a bewildering blow; they'd have no idea what had just hit them.
The old professor glared at the painting for some time before taking a deep breath. He asked Will, "Can I keep the original for a few days? I want to take a good look at it."
Will nodded decisively. "Sure."
After getting Will's permission, the old professor took the painting home. Wanting to brag and to get a second opinion, he invited an old friend over to have a look.
"'My Neighbor'? Who's Will's neighbor?" the friend asked.
"Fang Zhao. You know, the guy who was all over the place a while back. He's in Will's class. He's the youngest student in the program this year," the old professor explained.
"What's so interesting about Fang Zhao? But is he really like that in real life? The portrait gives off a weird vibe. It's kind of spooky too."
"I confirmed with Will. It's Fang Zhao all right."
"Wow. I never would have guessed that Will would take this approach. This is a significant improvement. The sketching is superb—and he has gone beyond putting idea to paper. It's so rare to have this level of enlightenment at this age. This should be put on display so that the other art academies can see what our Twelve Tones students are made of!"
"Well, that's up to Will. Once it's on display on campus, buyers will soon beckon."
"Then let's put it up for auction. The painting will definitely fetch a good price. That is, if Will is willing to sell."
So, painting in hand, the old professor personally paid Will a visit to see if would be willing to put the piece up for auction on HuangArt's auction website.
HuangArt selected outstanding student works every week to put on display. If the artists agreed, the pieces would be put up for auction as well.
"Go ahead and put it on display and up for auction," said an emotionless Will.
The old professor was quite baffled by Will's casual attitude. "You're willing to part with it now? You don't want to keep it for a few years?"
"No," Will responded firmly.
The old professor wanted to confirm Will's intentions. "It took a great deal of effort and reflection to produce this painting. Are you sure you want to sell it right after you've finished it?"
Will seemed confused. "This was only my short-term goal. Painting Fang Zhao is only the first step. My ultimate goal is actually to draw his dog."
As far as Will was concerned, painting Fang Zhao was only a transition. Been there, done that. Why keep the painting around?
Speaking of which, it dawned on Will that it was time to ask Fang Zhao if he could borrow that dog.


"Every time background music plays in my head, I feel like there is nothing to be afraid of." —Fang Zhao
Toward the end of the apocalyptic period, Fang Zhao lost his life. However, instead of dying, he found himself 500 years later in the body of a young and aspiring composer who shared the same name. Having received a second chance at life, Fang Zhao sets out to achieve the previous owner's dreams.

"By the dead, what you're saying is… that the cause of deaths was accidental?" Zeng Ke asked. He, too, felt goosebumps, and the atmosphere in the room quickly turned spooky. "And the corpses… were all stolen by the criminals? Grave robbers, perhaps? That is too immoral…"
"Not necessarily!" Zhao Yu said. "Back in our hometown, I've heard that such things can be bought with money! I wonder… is that the same here at Wu Qing Shan?"
"Well… that certainly seems possible!" Zeng Ke said. "If the bodies were bought, there would be no way to trace it to the missing people! But… all the underage girls are over 14 years of age. Even if they did have the money, would it be possible to buy them?
"Although the child died, after all, the child was still a member of the family. What parent would be willing to sell their own child's body?"
"We can't say that for sure. It could be poor families, local customs, or even the adults themselves who believe that this is for the sake of the children …" Zhao Yu said. "Anyway, we need to investigate in this direction!"
"Hmm…" Zeng Ke thought for a moment before asking, "Remember female corpse number seven? Didn't the forensic doctor say that someone strangled her? That…"
"Eh?" Zhao Yu's eyes brightened and he quickly said, "Zeng Ke, could it be that female corpse number seven was murdered, but the case had already been solved? "Well, aside from that…" Zhao Yu began. "If we guess correctly, will there be any other way to confirm the identity of the deceased?"
"Underage girls have little chance to apply for identity cards. There are no photos on the account page. If we really wanted to search, I'm afraid we could only start with the student registration forms!" Zeng Ke said. "Only the student registration forms would have photos, so it would be possible to use software to compare.
"However, most of the photos on the student registration list are photos of children when they were very young, and the software comparison will have errors. Moreover, I'm worried some of them might have dropped out of school…
"Oh, and…" Zeng Ke said after thinking for a while. "You can also compare them with personal photos on the internet, but that takes a long time and generally is based on a longer period!"

After agreeing, Zeng Ke hung up the phone.

At that moment, Zhao Yu was still on the cliff watching the staff busy at work. He pouted out of habit.
"I'm afraid… we're investigating in the wrong direction…?" Zhao Yu thought.
He wondered to himself, "Because Geng Yaai was indeed a missing person, she must have nothing to do with afterlife marriage…
"If the family sold the body, how could it have been reported?
"Also, the autopsy report proves that she might have been in a car accident. Is there any deeper meaning behind that?
"It's peculiar.
"Until then, the case had already been investigated for a day and a half. However, not only had they not solved any part of it, the mysteries had steadily increased. The mystery of the hanging coffin was bizarre and complicated!"
"Leader, leader…" Zhao Yu heard someone say.
As Zhao Yu was deep in thought, Captain Xiong Wendong suddenly brought a young police officer over to him.
"Leader," Xiong Wendong said earnestly. "Didn't you ask me to find a master of fengshui or metaphysics? Well… look."
As he said this, he pointed to the young police officer.
"You can't be serious," Zhao Yu asked, grinning. "So young? You must be kidding, right?"
"No, no!" The young police officer waved his hands quickly. "The captain has misunderstood me. I am not a master; I just know where to find a master!"
"Oh?" Zhao Yu's original intention was to have Xiong Wendong find some experts in that field to ask them about the Seven Stars Hanging Coffins.
He didn't expect that Xiong Wendong had only found news.
"We have a master in Wu Feng Mountain, he is really accurate!" the young policeman said. "Well, I lived in the deserted Wu Feng Taoist Temple in the past. Aiyo… the Taoist are almost like Gods. You can tell in one look that he is not an ordinary person. Face reading, divination, fengshui… he's really good at all of it!"
"Well, leader…" Xiong Wendong added. "To be honest, we are all police, and of course we don't believe in these things. So, after you asked me, I asked around for a long time before I finally chanced upon him."
"Wu Feng Mountain…" Zhao Yu recalled the map of the area. "That's not very far from here, right?"
"Not far, not far at all!" the young policeman answered quickly. "It's only like six or seven kilometers away. If you want to go, I can take you there now!"
"Does he see fortunes at night as well?" Zhao Yu asked, looking at the darkening sky.
"Well, about that… I don't know!" the young policeman replied. "But you're not asking for a fortune. As long as he's home, I'm sure he'll cooperate with the investigation!"
"That's true!" Zhao Yu said. After thinking for a moment, he decided. "Well, I'll go meet this master now!"
"Okay, I'll go with you!" Xiong Wendong said, immediately walking to the police car.
"Don't!" Zhao Yu waved. "Let's change to another car. It's not appropriate to drive a police car to a master's house."
"Oh… okay!" Xiong Wendong said, quickly picking up his cellphone and contacting a non-police car.
Later, Xiong Wendong drove while the young policeman led the way. The three men walked all the way up and headed to Wu Feng Mountain.
As the car drove, Zhao Yu was not idling. He told the two police officers the identity of the female corpse as he wanted to hear the views of the two locals.
"Afterlife marriage?" Xiong Wendong asked, shaking his head. "I have only seen this in supernatural novels, but in reality… I have never seen anything like this before, nor have I worked on a similar case!"
"Indeed…" the young policeman said, turning back while sitting in the passenger seat. "Leader, my family is actually the group of people who carries out funeral rites for a living!
"Let me put it this way. The sale of corpses may be found elsewhere, but in our area, it is absolutely impossible!"
"Ah? Why?" Zhao Yu asked, slightly shocked.
"Because… we do cremation here!" the young policeman said. "When people die, they are cremated!"
"Yes, yes!" Xiong Wendong suddenly clapped his hands. "Hey, why didn't I remember that? Leader, this is really the crux of the issue. Cremation is not only a national regulation; it is also our tradition!
"The way I see it, the crime of selling corpses is such a foreign concept to me," Xiong Wendong said. "You may not know this, but the traditional funeral culture here believes that a person can only go to heaven if their bodies are cremated. So, if the body is cremated, what corpses are left to be sold?"

Lâm Châu không bỏ qua bất kỳ một cơ hội nào để thử, dù là nhỏ nhất. Tất nhiên làm gì có chuyện thử cái được ngay, mọi sự tác động phải được tiến hành dần dần.
Mặc dù các kỹ năng thuần hóa của Lâm Châu có hơi mưu mẹo một chút, nhưng từ xưa đến nay mưu mẹo mới lấy được lòng người. Lặp đi lặp lại mới dễ dàng khắc sâu được ấn tượng.
Lâm Châu đứng một bên quan sát biểu hiện của con Luxray, xem ra nó vẫn rất sợ đám Nihilego này.
Nỗi sợ hãi này không phải là vì khoảng cách về sức mạnh.
Nếu nói về sức mạnh thì trong trường hợp đấu tay đôi với nó, những con Nihilego này không phải là đối thủ của Luxray.
Nỗi sợ hãi của nó phần lớn xuất phát từ trong chính nội tâm của nó, đến từ nỗi sợ cuộc càn quét của người ngoài hành tinh, nỗi sợ nơi ở bị phá hoại và bầy đàn bị sát hại.
Luxray bước qua bước lại một cách bồn chồn bất an, dòng điện đặc biệt trên người nó càng lúc càng mạnh, mắt nó càng lúc càng đỏ au lên.
Phản ứng của Luxray dữ dội hơn nhiều so với Lâm Châu tưởng tượng.
Lâm Châu thấy trạng thái của Luxray và đoán chừng cậu không nên kích thích nó thêm nữa.
Kẻo già néo lại đứt dây, lát nữa nó phát điên quay ra cắn cậu thì cậu lại tránh không kịp. Để nó suy nghĩ cho thấu đáo trước khi mất hết lý trí mới là tốt nhất.
Lâm Châu lấy PokeBall và thu Luxray vào.
Thuần hóa Pokemon là một chuyện đòi hỏi tính kiên trì, cần cân nhắc cách thức và còn cần đến cả một chút may mắn nữa.
Cậu cũng không biết việc lần này có ảnh hưởng gì đến tư duy của Luxray hay không, chỉ còn cách đợi nó bình tĩnh lại và từ từ ngẫm nghĩ.
Lâm Châu thu Luxray về rồi lôi ra một miếng phiến thạch Plate to cỡ cuốn sách.
Trên bề mặt phiến thạch Plate khắc một biểu tượng u tối, biểu tượng ấy chỉ có một nửa, kéo dài đến hết mặt phiến thạch Plate và tỏa ra thứ mùi vị kỳ dị, thần bí.
Đây là một mảnh phiến thạch Plate vỡ được Lâm Châu nhặt về khi cậu đang đụng độ với con rồng chúa tể nơi địa ngục, Giratina.
Mảnh phiến thạch Plate này khác với những mảnh vỡ khác, nó có kích thước to hơn, phía trên còn có một nửa đường vân biểu tượng, hình như hàm chứa một thông tin bí ẩn nào đó.
Mew đang ngồi trên đầu Lâm Châu bèn cúi đầu xuống nhìn phiến thạch Plate trong tay cậu rồi nói:
"Ơ? Ngoài viên phiến thạch Plate Life ra, cậu còn lấy được cả một mảnh của phiến thạch Plate Spooky nữa hả? Phải biết rằng mỗi một viên phiến thạch Plate đều có cơ chế bảo vệ tự động do chủ nhân viên đá lưu lại sức mạnh của mình, nếu có người động vào thì chắc chắn sẽ bị tấn công đấy..."
Lâm Châu nhướng mày một cái.
"Thế sao mày còn để tao đi đến thế giới ngược lấy phiến thạch Plate Life?"
"Tôi đã giải được mã bảo vệ của phiến thạch Plate Life rồi, có Aura của tôi thì cậu như là cầm được chiếc chìa khóa đúng đi -mở ổ khóa vậy, làm sao xảy ra chuyện được, thế nhưng mảnh phiến thạch Plate Spooky này cậu lấy ra bằng cách nào?"
Mew vừa nói vừa liếc Lâm Châu ý bảo cậu không cần quan tâm đến những chuyện "không quan trọng" tỷ như vì sao nó đưa Lâm Châu vào thế giới ngược để lấy phiến thạch Plate Life.
"Trong thế giới ngược có một con Pokemon định cướp đi viên phiến thạch Plate Spooky, tao cũng chỉ là ăn ké nên cướp được một nửa viên."
Lâm Châu trả lời thật lòng.
"Nó lấy phiến thạch Plate Spooky đi rồi??"
Giọng của Mew tự dưng trở lên kích động.
Có vẻ như nó biết đến sự tồn tại của con rồng chúa tể nơi địa ngục, chủ nhân của thế giới ngược, Giratina.
"Trong phiến thạch Plate Spooky ẩn chứa nguồn năng lượng gốc của bóng tối, trong số mười tám hệ năng lượng, nó đại diện cho hệ U Linh, đồng thời cũng là sức mạnh thuộc về thế giới ngược."
Mew giải thích rõ cho cậu nghe.
"Con Pokemon trong thế giới ngược đó vừa là chủ nhân vừa là người bảo vệ của thế giới ấy. Nó đã đạt đến cảnh giới cực cao trong việc nắm giữ sức mạnh bóng tối rồi, gần như đã sắp đạt đến cấp độ của năng lượng gốc."
"Tuy nhiên, nó vẫn chưa hoàn toàn chạm được vào năng lượng gốc của sức mạnh bóng tối."
"Năng lượng gốc?"
Lâm Châu nhạy bén bắt được vào một từ trọng tâm trong lời Mew nói.
"Năng lượng gốc là cảnh giới cao nhất của sự hiểu biết và điều khiển được của các thuộc tính khác nhau, là viên đá cơ sở của một loại nguyên tố cấu tạo nên thế giới."
"Nó có một đặc điểm, đó chính là phải thông qua phiến thạch Plate gốc thì mới có thể lĩnh hội đầy đủ, nếu không thì cũng chỉ đạt được đến trình độ như con Pokemon chủ nhân của thế giới ngược mà thôi."
Lâm Châu lắng nghe và chợt hiểu ra.
"Cho nên nó mới phải cướp lấy phiến thạch Plate Spooky?"
"Đúng vậy, chủ nhân của thế giới ngược muốn nắm được cái gốc của sức mạnh bóng tối, mà muốn nắm được cái gốc đó thì phải sở hữu phiến thạch Plate."
Kể từ khi chủ nhân của những phiến thạch Plate tự lưu đày mình trong thế giới ngược thì chủ nhân của thế giới ngược đã nhắm vào viên phiến thạch Plate Spooky rồi."
 Mew khoanh hai cẳng tay nhỏ xíu lại trong khi ngồi.
"Nhưng hệ thống bảo vệ do chủ nhân của những phiến thạch Plate để lại đâu có dễ dàng bị phá vỡ."
"Một Pokemon thông minh giống như tôi còn phải dựa vào cây thần, sóng Aura và mất bao nhiêu thời gian mới phá giải được hệ thống bảo vệ của phiến thạch Plate Life đó."
"Chủ nhân của thế giới ngược không làm được như tôi đâu."
"Nhưng vấn đề bây giờ là con Pokemon đó đã lấy được phiến thạch Plate Spooky rồi."
Lâm Châu tự nhủ, mày nói việc này có ích gì không? Nó không phải phá bỏ hệ thống bảo vệ, không phải làm gì mà chỉ cần mượn gió bẻ măng, dựa vào sức mạnh của nó để cướp mảnh phiến thạch Plate Spooky đi là xong.
"Nếu chủ nhân của thế giới ngược mà lấy được viên phiến thạch Plate Spooky thì có hậu quả gì không? Nó sẽ không quay ra báo thù loài người sau khi luyện thành tuyệt kỹ chứ?"
Lâm Châu nói ra nỗi lo của cậu, những chuyện khác cậu không lo mà chỉ sợ mỗi việc Pokemon trong truyền thuyết xuất hiện gây họa thôi.
Mew xua xua cái móng nhỏ của nó.
"Không sao đâu, chủ nhân của thế giới ngược đứng ở thế trung lập, một mình nó cai quản cả một thế giới rộng lớn nên không có lý do gì mà đến gây sự ở thế giới chính đâu, chỉ cần cậu đừng có gây thù oán với nó là được."

Lâm Châu im lặng một lúc, thốt ra câu hỏi với vẻ mặt đau khổ :
"Thế lỡ như, kiểu là, không cẩn thận... đã gây thù rồi thì sao?"
Mew nhìn cậu với vẻ mặt hoài nghi:
"Cậu chọc giận nó rồi à? Tôi nhắc nhở cậu nha, thế giới ngược và thế giới chính là tấm gương phản chiếu của nhau và đối xứng với nhau về vị trí."
"Là chủ nhân của thế giới ngược, việc đi lại giữa hai thế giới là một việc rất dễ dàng với nó, không cần phải phức tạp như tôi, ở chỗ ba cột trụ Pokemon thần mới có thể tạo ra cánh cửa nối liền hai thế giới. Chắc chắn nó có thể tùy ý xuất hiện ở đại đa số các vị trí trên thế giới chính."

Lâm Châu có thể nói gì nữa đây?
Một mối đe dọa vô hình ẩn nấp trong cuộc sống hằng ngày của bạn, đó là một vấn đề rất lớn!
Vấn đề là cậu cũng không cố ý mà. Là do con rồng chúa tể nơi địa ngục, Giratina kia ra tay trước!
Lẽ nào về sau cậu nhất định phải đề phòng hơn sao?
Mew làm ra vẻ bất lực, nhún vai an ủi:
"Thôi, cậu cũng không cần phải lo lắng quá đâu. Chủ nhân của thế giới ngược vừa mới lấy được phiến thạch Plate Spooky, chắc sẽ tập trung toàn bộ sự chú ý vào phiến thạch Plate đó, và muốn tiêu hóa phiến thạch Plate đó cũng cần có thời gian! Chắc hiện giờ nó không rảnh để tìm cậu gây sự đâu."
"Nhìn chung thì tao còn yên ổn được mấy năm?"
Lâm Châu hỏi.
"Thời gian nghiên cứu và lĩnh hội năng lượng gốc thường phải xem xét đến tính phức tạp của phiến thạch Plate gốc và khả năng lĩnh ngộ của kẻ đó, nếu muốn nắm được hoàn toàn năng lượng gốc của một phiến thạch Plate tương đối hoàn chỉnh thì cần tới mấy năm, thậm chí có thể là mười mấy năm."
Những lời của Mew khiến Lâm Châu yên tâm hơn, tốt xấu gì thì nó cũng sẽ không tìm tới cậu ngay đâu.
Tất nhiên, vẫn phải có ý thức phòng bị, chẳng ai biết con rồng chúa tể nơi địa ngục có bất ngờ tìm đến cậu hay không.
Lâm Châu cầm một nửa phiến thạch Plate với những họa tiết thần bí, kỳ dị trên tay, cậu suy nghĩ một lúc rồi lấy PokeBall và thả Mimikyu ra, sau đó hỏi Mew:
"Mảnh vỡ phiến thạch Plate này có hữu ích hay không, Pokemon của tao có thể nghiên cứu năng lượng gốc thông qua nó hay không?"


Sau khi ngủ dậy, Lâm Châu phát hiện mình sống trong thế giới giống hệt thế giới trước kia mà cậu sống trừ sự xuất hiện của những sinh vật đặc biệt - Pokemon. Bất chấp sự khuyên ngăn của mọi người, Lâm Châu đã nhặt và thu nhận Cáo Lửa – một con Pokemon có khiếm khuyết bẩm sinh, bị coi là “vô dụng”, chăm sóc nó vô cùng cẩn thận, chu đáo. Nhưng không ngờ Cáo Lửa của cậu lực tương tác với hệ Lửa kém nhưng lại có siêu năng lực hệ Siêu Linh vô cùng mạnh, đặc biệt còn sở hữu chiêu thức chỉ có trong truyền thuyết: Dự báo tương lai. Chiêu thức này đặc biệt hữu dụng trong việc kiếm tiền mua bí ngọc và đồ dùng cho Cáo Lửa. Lâm Châu đi làm thêm tại Cửu Nguyệt Ốc và được bà chủ truyền cho một số công thức chế tạo viên năng lượng cho Pokemon. Sau đó, cậu gặp Từ Trạch Tiến - tên tội phạm truy nã mà Liên Minh Pokemon hiện đang truy đuổi và suýt mất mạng dưới tay hắn. Trong cuộc thi Xé Bảng Tên Pokemon, để bảo vệ chị gái Lâm Lam, Lâm Châu đã liều mình hạ gục hắn. Nhận thấy thực lực của Lâm Châu và cậu bạn Lưu Lạc, Vương Hoa Thần mời họ vào đội tuyển Pokemon của trường tham gia đấu giải cấp thành phố. Lâm Châu và Cáo Lửa đã cùng nhau nỗ lực luyện tập, nâng cao năng lực thực chiến, tiến gần đến giấc mơ trở thành huấn luyện viên.
