Janma Murk was used to long waits. After Kolru's unconditional surrender to the pincer alliance of Moira and Kapula, she and the high command of Kolru's military, along with the all the civilian leadership and every Kolruvian citizen waited one whole year before their fate was decided. A year spent inside, the economy closed. Citizens scraped for food from government aid and even took foraging in the jungles outside the capital. Foreign soldiers walked the streets, armed with weapons that surpassed anything the Kolruvians could muster. They were still at war long after the fighting had ended, and could do nothing about it. 
At the time, she blamed herself. She was, after all, the military leader of the Kolru state. Generals on the ground and Admirals in the skies all reported to her. One of her closest associates, General Aren, once told her: "We fight the battles, but you fight the war." 
Aren was dead by the end of the war. He was killed by airstrikes targeting the city of Mombatu, where the Kolruvian government had fled after the capital was overrun. The city was completely destroyed, in what was later called the Decimation of Mombatu. It was the final event that spurred Janma's surrender: the Moirans had shown they could raze entire cities to the ground from space, and against such power, there was no hope of victory. 
Now the war was lost, and naturally, she had lost it. Her shame pushed her to lead Kolru into the Federation period, even after all her efforts for independence had failed. She feared a civil war if she stepped down, her popularity was sometimes the only thing Kolruvians could agree upon. It was she who negotiated the terms of the new Federation, who worked closely with the Moiran leadership to establish rights and protections that would guarantee no such war would ever be endured again. 
Luckily for her, the Moirans were not so interested in enslaving Kolru as they had seemed while at war. Their demands consisted more of economic freedoms, such as opening trade and letting Moiran merchants flood the Kolruvian economy. On the other hand, Janma successfully pushed Moira to accept Kolruvian standards of economic protections for their own people, a compromise that seemed to help everyone. 
The Moiran military commander, formally appointed Presiding Dictator of the Moiran State, was a man by the name of Kaikara. Kaikara and Janma worked closely together, generally alone, to construct the Federation's governmental system. Over time, she grew to respect her former enemy, it was clear he had no cruelty in him. "This will be the crowning achievement of our time," he would say as they worked, "centuries from now our descendants will look to us as their source of peace and prosperity." Janma was unsure she'd ever be remembered as anything but the person in charge when Kolru suffered most, who had led them in a war they could not win.
When their work was completed, they submitted the new agreement to their respective governments, who had no choice but to honor it. It was also submitted to the Kapulan government, who had been largely excluded from the negotiations. Kaikara had suggested that he represented Kapulan interest as well as Moiran, seeing as he was commander of both allied states' militaries throughout the war. Yet the Kapulan government ratified the documents with no complaints, so Janma lay her fears of their retaliation to rest. Thus the so-called Mutual Peace Federation was born, though quickly it was simply called the Aikan Federation.
She resigned, as did her Moiran counterpart. 
For a few years, it seemed she would retire forever. She was still young enough: she would not yet be middle-aged for another decade, but there was no place for wartime leadership once peace had come, even in their limited history, the Aikans had learned this. She was made senior advisor to the Federation's council on war and space, which in short meant almost nothing. Sometimes they would send her to schools, to discuss the Great Aikan War and promote the official version of Kolruvian capitulation: that both sides had come to understand there was no need to fight. 
For almost two decades, Janma led a quiet life. The occasional ceremonial positions and shows of political unity became less and less frequent. She even moved to a rural town in the capital province, resolved to live out her days in peace, growing cabbages and other vegetables. 
Choosing to not have children—be it biologically, artificially incubated, or adopted—was a luxury most Kolruvians could not afford. Not only did the government give economic incentives to child-bearing families, but the culture on Kolru had been heavily influenced by the policies in place since the colonization of the planet that required high population growth. These days the policies were more lenient, and Janma's status allowed her to forego the typical incentives that allowed the average citizen to live more comfortably. She chose to provide for the next generation in another way and became a teacher at the local school. It won her no honors, no special status, and sometimes she missed the responsibility of running an entire planet. Yet the rural school presented a welcome respite from the evils of war and the burden of failure.
Sometimes Kaikara came to visit and talk about life in the new Federation's capital. Over the years since the war, the two became quite close. The human capacity for forgiveness, it seemed, was not so limited as Janma once thought. But there was more to their relationship than just past enemies. As the two leaders of the greatest war in their history, a certain burden lay upon them that no other human could understand, and their closeness centered at first around this common experience. Later, it seemed the two simply grew quite fond of each other, and eventually, Kaikara would come for months at a time to stay with Janma. Yet he always returned to the capital. Janma never resented this. He was not ready to abandon public life forever, and how could he be, when he was regarded as a hero by his people? 
One day when he came to see her, she opened the door and he was not alone. He was dressed in his official military jumpsuit, along with a few other officers and some civilian leaders. They asked to come in, saying they had an offer for her. It made Janma nervous, but Kaikara's smile was sincere, so she let the group in. 
There were six in total, but she only recognized two. The civilian leader in scientific white attire was Lembo Qasi, the Federal Science Commissioner, and though they had never met, she recognized him from official media. 
The other Janma knew quite well, as she was one of the defensive Generals in the Aikan War, and possibly the youngest. Her name was Rika Banua, though now she was referred to as President Rika, executive leader of Kolruvian interests in the Federal High Council. It was a verbose role, but one that essentially made her leader of all Kolru, and its representative in the Federal government. 
They began telling her that probes had been sent to orbit Ao, their own star's binary twin. The probes had found conclusive evidence, not only of a handful of habitable planets, but also of one they were sure had life. They called it Rapsis. 
This is when a young man began to speak. He had just recently reached adulthood, it seemed, yet already he wore a General's rank badge on his chest. He opened a file he was carrying and took out printed satellite pictures. Due to their impracticality, printed pictures were incredibly rare on Kolru. At last, Janma's curiosity was piqued: the contents must be held to an excessively high degree of secrecy to not be held digitally as all other documents were. 
The young General handed over the pictures, pointing wordlessly to specific points on the images. They were quite blurry, but what they showed was unmistakable: farms, roads, towns, and cities, all lay on the surface of Rapsis. The Aikan Federation was no longer isolated in the universe.

A forgotten calamity sends humanity to the Nostellam system, where centuries of isolation leaves the scattered colonies to fend for themselves, technologically and societally. It was because of that which surprised her even more. Why was he here? And what was his relationship with both this deity and the Prospective Deity?
The people exchanged puzzled glances and looked at Su Yu, then discussed their opinions with one another.
Logically speaking, Su Yu was a wanted criminal at the moment. They should've seized him upon seeing him, but no one was willing to act.
All the deities would always remember Su Yu's kindness in destroying the Book Deity's Treasury.
They were interrupted by the anguished man making a sound.
"Mighty deities above, Su Yu has murdered a law enforcer and breached the Alliance Treaty of the Hundred Deities. He should be sentenced to death here and now!" Qin Feichen growled to the heavens.

"Su Yu, the Book Deity's family has accused you of breaching the Alliance Treaty of the Hundred Deities and murdering a law enforcer. Is that true?" The Dakini gave off a pure, sacred brilliance as she always did.
Instead of immediately answering, Su Yu asked in response, "If I may, what would happen if a law enforcer himself had violated the laws and committed unforgivable crimes? Would a bystander be considered breaching the Alliance Treaty of the Hundred Deities for stepping forth and stopping the criminal?"
This particular point had been emphasized when the Alliance Treaty of the Hundred Deities was formulated.
The Dakini replied, "If the mistakes he had committed were more significant compared to murdering a law enforcer, then the crime of the culprit cannot be exempted."
"Well, that's a relief!" Su Yu said dispassionately, "You're right, I killed Qin Kuo!"
The deities were unsurprised by upon hearing this since there was solid evidence that proved it.
The Dakini quietly retrieved a Light Returning Mirror and hurled it at Su Yu.
The scenes of Su Yu killing Qin Kuo were displayed in great detail.
"I am glad that you were brave enough to admit to your crimes instead of trying to absolve yourself from the responsibility," the Dakini said, "Since the charge has been validated, you will be punished according to the Alliance Treaty of the Hundred Deities."
Upon finishing, the Dakini maneuvered her will and prepared to kill Su Yu from across the air.
"Have you never thought of why there is only a brief scene of me killing Qin Kuo? Without any causes or effects shown?" Su Yu looked indifferent.
The Dakini asked, "Do you wish to defend yourself?"
"Why would I? I was never at fault," Su Yu responded.
Since the situation was getting worse, Qin Feichen chipped in hurriedly, "Lady Dakini, do not be fooled by his evil doctrine. He is saying this to get away with his crimes!"
"On behalf of the Book Deity's family, I sincerely plead Lady Dakini to adhere to the Alliance Treaty of the Hundred Deities and punish him!"

When he was done speaking, his gaze drifted afar to where the figures of a man and a woman were streaking across the sky and heading towards them.
"Feather Deity, the mission was accomplished," The Great Emperor of Ghost Prison was calm and composed in the face of all the deities, even when his Ghost Deity father was among them.
Jian Wusheng had an air of indifference about her and did not do anything out of place. She only stood quietly behind Su Yu.
"Thank you both for your efforts," Su Yu accepted the Light Returning Mirror from the Great Emperor of Ghost Prison and instilled a streak of All Creations Strength into it. An extended scene flickered into view.
Right when Su Yu was about to kill the Central Prefecture's King, Qin Kuo showed up out of nowhere and pridefully demanded to take him away. His attitude was arrogant and unbridled.
The deities scowled upon watching the scene. Law enforcers were supposed to kill demons unless it was a specific demon that was wanted.
Otherwise, all of them should've been killed on the spot; in no circumstances should they have been captured alive and brought back for interrogation.

Dai Li looked a little confused. He didn't know what to choose.
If he didn't plead guilty, the trial would continue. However, even Wilfrid, who specialized in criminal cases, couldn't guarantee he would win the case. Dai Li didn't want to be imprisoned, let alone be imprisoned for more than a decade. Just as Reiss said,even if there was only a 10% chance of a guilty verdict, Dai Li would not be willing to take that risk.
Compared with ten years in prison, the sentence that came with pleading guilty was much lighter. A few years of probation was quite acceptable and the community service also could be regarded as physical exercise.
If I was on probation, I would need to report to the probation officer twice a week and there may be 1000 hours of community service. If I could do four hours a day, I would need 250 days in all. That means that if I do community service five times a month, I would need 50 months. That's over four years; however, it's better than ten years in prison.
Why should I plead guilty when I'm actually innocent? The nonsense of the American justice system! Dai became irritated.
Reiss seemed like he was being nice in advising me to plead guilty. He would drop the first-degree murder charge if I did. However, I didn't intend to murder that guy! He wanted to make a bargain with me regarding something that I didn't do. He just let me think I could benefit from it. Why should I accept his condition?
I shouldn't compromise! Dai Li had already decided in his mind. He knew it might be irrational, but he decided to follow his beliefs this time.
Taking a deep breath, he stood up and walked to Wilfrid.

Wilfrid sat quietly in the corner of the lounge, thinking about what to do next.
He knew that he had lost to Reiss just now. Wilfrid had to admit that Nick Reiss was indeed a good negotiator. Reiss set high conditions deliberately at the beginning and, when he lowered them, it was easier for his opponent to accept.
What's more, Nick Reiss clearly knew his opponent's thought processes. He knew that a rich man would never bet on freedom. When someone is completely unwilling to lose what he has, he is forced to compromise.
This was what Nick Reiss usually did. As a prosecutor with a 100% conviction rate, Reiss knew how to get the defendant to plead guilty as soon as possible.
In the face of the terms offered by Reiss, if Dai Li didn't plead guilty, Wilfrid had to win Dai Li's case. If Dai Li agreed to plead guilty, Wilfrid would still need to negotiate with the prosecutor for better conditions, such as shorter term of penalty or probation and shorter community service.
Wilfrid therefore had to make two plans, one for each of Dai Li's potential decisions.
What are you thinking? Wilfrid glanced at Dai Li, who stood up and walked over to him.
It seems that Mr. Li has decided.

"Mr. Li, you should make your decision. Shall we accept the prosecutor's proposal?" asked Wilfrid.
"I don't intend to accept prosecutor's 'kind proposal'. I'll keep the trial going," said Dai Li.
"You sure? I mean, do you really know the risks of continuing this case?" said Wilfrid.
Dai Li didn't answer him immediately. He asked Wilfrid another question. "Wilfrid, do you know about the flood?"
"The flood? Has there been a flood recently?" Wilfrid was confused and asked.
"I'm talking about the prehistoric flood, the legendary one," said Dai Li.
"Sure," Wilfrid nodded, "it is said the great flood inundated Atlantis. What does it have to do with our case?"
"Many ancient civilizations recorded that flood, like Mesopotamia, Greece, India, China, and the Mayan Empire. The all had different reasons for why this flood occurred though. For example, in Sumerian myth, Eniel, the king of gods, felt humans were too noisy and he sent a flood to destroy them. According to Mayan civilization, humans forgot their creator, so the creator decided to send a flood to destroy them. In the Bible, God saw the earth filled with corruption, violence and evil, and he intended to use the flood to destroy all evil people."
Wilfrid didn't say anything, but listened to Dai Li carefully.
"In Sumerian myth, there is a kind-hearted water god named Enki. He arranged for a man called Utnapishtim to board a ship and escape the flood. It is very much like the story of Noah's Ark in the Bible, right?" asked Dai Li.
"Yes, God found a good man named Noah, so he instructed Noah to build an ark. He took his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and two of every animal. Then came the flood. All the fountains of the great deep were awoken and the windows of heaven were opened. It rained heavily on the earth day and night and the waters flooded the highest mountains. All the creatures on the land died. Only Noah and his family survived in the ark. After 220 days of flooding, Noah's ark stopped near Mount Ararat. Forty days later, the flood retreated and Noah sent a crow out for information. The crow never returned. Seven days later, Noah sent a dove. This time, the dove returned with a branch from an olive tree, indicating that the flood had finally gone," Wilfrid explained. As someone who had grown up in Western civilization, he obviously knew the story of Noah's Ark better than Dai Li.
"Do you know how the story of the flood was recorded in the east, or in China?" asked Dai Li with a smile.
"I'd love to hear about it," said Wilfrid.
"It is also a story about fathers and sons. According to ancient Chinese books, the boundless flood inundated crops, mountains, and houses. People were displaced and had to leave their homes. The flood brought untold disaster to everybody. Yao, the ruler of that time, decided to control the flood. He found a person named Gun to tame the flood. However, he failed after nine years of work.
"Then Shun, the successor of Yao, killed Gun and let Gun's son continue to tame the flood. His name was Yu. He finally tamed the flood after thirteen years of work. During that time, he never went home, even when he passed by his own house. Thirteen years later, his son barely knew him.
"In Christianity, God saved everybody and the humans just hid on a boat. Inn China, we didn't get any help from gods. Without boats, we didn't compromise to the flood. We had to fight on our own. W fought had to fight against the flood!" Dai Li's tone was calm but his voice was persistent. He took a deep breath and went on,
"There are many similar myths in China. One story says that there were ten suns in the sky, searing the earth, and one skillful archer saved the planet by shooting down nine of them. One story says that a bird called Jingwei tried to fill the sea with pebbles. Another story says an old man called Yugong decided to remove a mountain with a shovel because it was in his way.
"I've heard many such stories throughout my life. Some are about brilliant heroes and others are about fools. However, when natural disasters came, our ancestors never chose to compromise, never chose to escape, and never chose to wait for God's help. They chose to fight, to defeat disasters! If they couldn't do it in a year, they would spend ten years, or twenty years. If one generation couldn't make it, two, maybe even three, generations would try until they succeeded!
"Many people say that the Chinese are materialists. They think we don't believe in gods and that we have no religious belief. That's because we know that no god can save us in times of trouble! We have to fight like our ancestors and never give in!
"In Christian mythology, god may not be perfect, but he is absolutely invincible. In China, we think that a man is the master of his own fate! If God gets in the way of our survival, we will push him down!
"Therefore, today, I will not compromise or give in. I firmly believe that I am innocent, so I will not plead guilty. Even if I am found guilty, I will choose to continue to appeal. I will fight firmly to the end, because an unyielding spirit flows through my blood!"
As he listened, Wilfrid nodded earnestly. "I see. I understand what you mean. Mr. Li, let's discuss the trial this afternoon! I'll do everything I can to help you win this case."

Pointing to the document on propensity for violence in his hands, Wilfrid said, "A for the problem of propensity for violence, we can apply for a professional psychological test to prove that you aren't abnormally prone to violence. It will take some time. Therefore, we need to apply for an extension of the case on the grounds of preparing key evidence."
"I have no problem with that." Dai Li then sat in thought for a few seconds before he asked Wilfrid a question. "Since we have to apply for an extension anyway, why don't we prepare more evidence? I have an idea, but I don't know how to implement it and I'm not positive it would work."
"That's why you pay me,because that's where my value lies. If your idea is really good for the case, I can help you implement it in the most effective way," said Wilfrid.
"I remember this morning that Reiss listed the reasons for my first-degree murder charge. One of them was that the gunshot could have killed the victim directly, so he affirmed that I didn't care about the life of the victim," said Dai Li.
Recalling the situation, Wilfrid said, "Reiss tried to distort the reason you shot the gun. He intended to make the jury think you are a murderer who killed people indiscriminately."
"If we can prove that I have the ability to make sure that the shot would not kill that man but just disable him temporarily, wouldn't it mean that I did care about the life of the victim? Could I be cleared of the first-degree murder charge that way," asked Dai Li.
Wilfrid thought for nearly half a minute, then said, "This causal relationship is valid. How can you prove that you are able to shoot somebody with such accuracy?"
"I can prove that I shoot well. Is that enough?" asked Dai Li.
"It depends on how well you shoot," Wilfrid said.
"As well as a professional shooting athlete. I'm as good as an Olympian 50-meter rifle athlete. How about that?" asked Dai Li.
Wilfrid thought for a while. He took out his laptop and searched something. Minutes later, he said, "According to the information I have found, it's complicated because athletes who shoot don't do so in actual combat situations. However most people know they can shoot very well. The jury is made up of everyday people. If they see your results are the same as a professional athletes, it will prove that you can shoot well."
"Then I'll give them a shocking performance!" Dai Li lowered his voice and discussed his plan.

Nick Reiss looked at his watch. Court would begin in half an hour. He looked at Dai Li, and saw that Dai Li and Wilfrid were talking about something.
Haven't they talked it over? It's taking so long! Reiss sighed, and reluctantly continued to wait.
Wilfrid finally ended his discussion with Dai Li ten minutes later. He stood up, adjusted his clothes, and walked over to Reiss.
"It seems that you two have reached a decision." Reiss firmly believed that Dai Li would plead guilty, so he was relaxed. He stood up and walked to meet Wilfrid.
"Do you have good news for me Wilfrid?" asked Reiss with a big smile.
"I'm afraid I have to disappoint you, Reiss!" Wilfrid was also smiling. "My client will not accept your proposal. He will not plead guilty and the trial will continue."
"Ah?" Nick Reiss looked surprised. Though he had prepared for this possibility, he thought the probability of Li rejecting his deal had been extremely low. In all the cases he had dealt with, every defendant in similar cases chose to compromise with him and plead guilty.
Reiss couldn't help but ask, "Wilfrid, have you really told your client all the risks involved in this decision?"
"Please don't doubt my professionalism, Reiss." Wilfrid became serious and said, "My client considered his options and decided that this was the course he wanted to take. As his attorney, I will do everything I can to do it well. So..." Wilfried intentionally paused for dramatic effect. "See you in court!"

Alkali sink, also known as salt flats, are lakes on the other extreme of the scale from the large and deep saline lakes. They are shallow saline features that occupy low-lying areas of the arid regions and in groundwater discharge zones. These are typically classifiable as either playas or playa lakes because they are periodically flooded by either rain or flood events and then dry up during drier intervals, leaving accumulations of brines and evaporitic minerals.

A salt pan (saltpan) is either an undrained small shallow natural depression in which water accumulates and evaporates leaving a salt deposit or the shallow lake of brackish water occupying a salt pan. This term is also used for a large pan for recovering salt by evaporation.

A saline pan is a name for an ephemeral saline lake which precipitates a bottom crust that is subsequently modified during subaerial exposure.

Lakes composed of other liquids

Lava lake is a large volume of molten lava, usually basaltic, contained in a volcanic vent, crater, or broad depression.

Hydrocarbon lakes are bodies of liquid ethane and methane that occupy depressions on the surface of Titan. They were detected by the Cassini–Huygens space probe.

Paleolakes
A paleolake also spelled palaeolake, is a lake that existed in the past when hydrological conditions were different. Quaternary paleolakes can often be identified on the basis of relict lacustrine landforms such as relict lake plains and coastal landforms that form recognizable relict shorelines, which are called paleo shorelines. Paleolakes can also be recognized by characteristic sedimentary deposits that accumulated in them and any fossils that these sediments might contain. The paleo shorelines and sedimentary deposits of paleolakes provide evidence for prehistoric hydrological changes during the times that they existed.

Types of paleolakes include:

A former lake is a lake which is no longer in existence. Such lakes include prehistoric lakes and lakes which have permanently dried up often as the result of either evaporation or human intervention. Owens Lake in California, USA, is an example of a former lake. Former lakes are a common feature of the Basin and Range area of southwestern North America.[46]
A shrunken lake is a lake which has drastically decreased in size over geological time. Lake Agassiz, which once covered much of central North America, is a good example of a shrunken lake. Two notable remnants of this lake are Lake Winnipeg and Lake Winnipegosis.[46]
Paleolakes are of scientific and economic importance. For example, Quaternary paleolakes in semidesert basins are important for two reasons. First, they played an extremely significant, if transient, role in shaping the floors and piedmonts of many basins. Finally, their sediments contain enormous quantities of geologic and paleontologic information concerning past environments.[47] In addition, the organic-rich deposits of pre-Quaternary paleolakes are important either for the thick deposits of oil shale and shale gas that they contain or as source rocks of petroleum and natural gas. Although of significantly less economic importance, strata deposited along the shore of paleolakes sometimes contain coal seams.[48][49]

Characteristics

Lakes have numerous features in addition to lake types, such as drainage basin (also known as catchment area), inflow and outflow, nutrient content, dissolved oxygen, pollutants, pH, and sedimentation.

Changes in the level of a lake are controlled by the difference between the input and output compared to the total volume of the lake. Significant input sources are precipitation onto the lake, runoff carried by streams and channels from the lake's catchment area, groundwater channels and aquifers, and artificial sources from outside the catchment area. Output sources are evaporation from the lake, surface and groundwater flows, and any extraction of lake water by humans. As climate conditions and human water requirements vary, these will create fluctuations in the lake level.

Lakes can be also categorized on the basis of their richness in nutrients, which typically affect plant growth. Nutrient-poor lakes are said to be oligotrophic and are generally clear, having a low concentration of plant life. Mesotrophic lakes have good clarity and an average level of nutrients. Eutrophic lakes are enriched with nutrients, resulting in good plant growth and possible algal blooms. Hypertrophic lakes are bodies of water that have been excessively enriched with nutrients. These lakes typically have poor clarity and are subject to devastating algal blooms. Lakes typically reach this condition due to human activities, such as heavy use of fertilizers in the lake catchment area. Such lakes are of little use to humans and have a poor ecosystem due to decreased dissolved oxygen.

Due to the unusual relationship between water's temperature and its density, lakes form layers called thermoclines, layers of drastically varying temperature relative to depth. Freshwater is most dense at about 4 degrees Celsius (39.2 °F) at sea level. When the temperature of the water at the surface of a lake reaches the same temperature as deeper water, as it does during the cooler months in temperate climates, the water in the lake can mix, bringing oxygen-starved water up from the depths and bringing oxygen down to decomposing sediments. Deep temperate lakes can maintain a reservoir of cold water year-round, which allows some cities to tap that reservoir for deep lake water cooling.

Since the surface water of deep tropical lakes never reaches the temperature of maximum density, there is no process that makes the water mix. The deeper layer becomes oxygen-starved and can become saturated with carbon dioxide, or other gases such as sulfur dioxide if there is even a trace of volcanic activity. Exceptional events, such as earthquakes or landslides, can cause mixing which rapidly brings the deep layers up to the surface and releases a vast cloud of gas which lay trapped in solution in the colder water at the bottom of the lake. This is called a limnic eruption. An example is a disaster at Lake Nyos in Cameroon. The amount of gas that can be dissolved in water is directly related to pressure. As deepwater surfaces, the pressure drops and a vast amount of gases come out of solution. Under these circumstances, carbon dioxide is hazardous because it is heavier than air and displaces it, so it may flow down a river valley to human settlements and cause mass asphyxiation.

What would happen if you got stuck in Time?

Zia has completed her Ph.D. in Botany and has applied for the post of lecturer/ Professor. She joins a High school as a temporary teacher and is entrusted with the task of leading a group of students on a trekking /camping expedition. 

On the way they meet a guy who seems to be a trouble maker but later, he proves to be a pillar of strength. Early morning their camp is attacked and they flee taking a different route. But they are lost.

They enter a world where people are living, in hiding, for over 250 years. Their technology is much advanced as compared to ours. Their world was initially a Utopia but now it is changing due to an oppressive ruler.

They are trapped in the time of this hidden world and want to help the people there fight against the oppressive ruler and his cronies. The oppressive ruler wants to make a number of Time Machines by using the brains of the scientists who had died in harness at the site of the experiments. 

They all decide to help the good citizens of the lost world. The huge brains are destroyed and the Orbs of the scientists escape to help the rest in their mission. 

In the process, the crystals that are used in the hypnotizing guns are almost finished and to get more they split up to go to the 'Magical World' through a curtain which is a portal. The Magical World is a flat  man made Earth-like satellite, which was made as a joke to taunt the scientists 7000 years ago, and which is still operational. Here they meet the inhabitants.  They are fascinated with the advancement of science especially the talking chips and the flying cars.They see a completely different world where animals, plants, rocks, water etc can talk. Before you touch anything you need to seek permission.

They also meet the Aliens called the 'Crocodile Race' who have come to the Magical World (the flat satellite) to get supplies. They see spaceships being guided to land by the scientists of the Magical World.

At present they are narrating to the Aliens, what they have undergone till date. 

Read on to experience their adventures, their fears, and their courage, to deal with various situations and how, after meandering through various secret passageways, encountering adventures, they finally come back to their time.

Trying to post a chapter a day now.

            For many in the shelter, sleep didn't come easily, and Eric was no exception. Aged and worn, although the thin sleeping mats protected their users from the chill of the cold concrete beneath, the hard rubber was barely softer than the stone below. After only a few minutes of tossing and turning on a questionably clean pillow beneath a blanket that faintly stunk of mildew, Eric inevitably gave up on sleep, opting to play on his phone like many others across the shelter.

            Of course, that didn't mean everyone was struggling to fall asleep. Not even five minutes after the lights had been turned out, a rattling snore resembling a diesel engine had roared to life, reverberating in the corner of the shelter he and his coworkers had chosen as their sleeping quarters. However, when Eric looked over to find out who had decided to smuggle a chainsaw into the bunker, he had been surprised to realize it was Will. Eric still found it amusing how the quietest one among them was the loudest sleeper.

            Thirty feet beneath the surface, it was no surprise that his phone couldn't get a signal. However, Eric had come prepared. Visits to the shelter were almost seasonal, and the people of the world had long adapted to the challenges of the inevitable lock downs. Everyone had something downloaded on their phones to weather the long, boring hours entombed beneath the earth; whether it be books, games, or movies. A sea of screens lit up the pitch black of the shelter like a sparse spattering of stars amidst the void, though that was more of a testament to the hardness of the sleeping mats rather than mankind's adaptability. However, as Eric tapped mindlessly on his phone, it was neither the hardness of the rubber beneath him nor the harsh red battery indicator telling him his phone was almost dead that drew his attention, but his previous conversation with Hector.

            Eric hadn't been entirely truthful earlier when he'd spoken about the Flood, though he hadn't exactly lied either. The boredom, the monotony, and his dissatisfaction with the mundane were all genuine opinions, and it was true that he didn't want any of the chaos and destruction that had come with the Flood, but that wasn't all of his thoughts. Eric also held an unpopular opinion, a question he held deep within his chest for fear of being viewed harshly for his thoughts: Was the Flood really so bad?

            The sudden dimming of his phone's screen as it went into power saver mode interrupted his thoughts, and almost absentmindedly Eric tapped on the screen before continuing his thoughts.

            It was almost as if everyone was so blinded by the wonders and horrors of the Flood itself that no one stopped to think about all the changes it brought. Once mankind had gotten over the initial shock of the leaks, they had reaped a harvest unlike any ever seen before or since. The technological advancements of the first five years of the flood dwarfed the next forty after its end, as supernatural resources literally rained down upon the earth. The blind were given sight, disasters predicted, clean energy sources discovered, and lines of scientific inquiry had opened up that were simply impossible through mundane means.

            Once more, the dimming of his phone's screen distracted Eric, and with mild irritation Eric tapped on the screen before continuing his thoughts.

            Then, eight years after it started, the Flood dried up. Resources became scarce, advancements slowed, projects shrank, and the supernatural withdrew from the world as quickly as it had arrived. Although the supernatural didn't recede to the near non-existence of pre-flood eras, all the promise of utopian technologies and boundless potential had withered, leaving behind harsh experiences and mundane magic. Imagining where society would be if the Flood had continued for just one more year, or if the Flood were to reoccur with modern shelters and lock down procedures in place, was enough to make Eric's bleary eyes sparkle.

            Once again, Eric's phone grew dim, distracting him from his thoughts. However, this time, as Eric tapped on the screen, it went completely black instead, its battery spent. Sighing for probably the thousandth time today, or perhaps the first time if it was after midnight, Eric realized that he would had no choice left but to attempt to get some sleep.

            Yet, if anyone were to point this out, they would be chastised. Time and time again, some intellectual would shine the light of modern perspective on the flood, explaining that in spite of the horrors and hardships, the world had come out stronger for it. Time and time again, the masses would rise up, attacking them as heartless or ignorant of the true suffering the Flood had brought. It wasn't as if these intellectuals were calling for the Flood's return, or anyone even had the power to bring it back. They were just trying to put things into perspective.

            Hector was right. Boring brought with it safety, security, and confidence in what tomorrow would bring. However, what were the costs? Without the Flood, society was stagnating and its economies were contracting. The next great milestones in human ingenuity were all fighting with one another over the resources necessary to be developed, and even fifty-year-old breakthroughs couldn't be implemented in modern society without the materials brought by the leaks. Society was at a bottle neck. In Eric's eyes, the price of boring wasn't worth it, though he'd never say it aloud.

            Setting his phone within his nearby shoe where it wouldn't be stepped on, Eric pushed his blanket down to his waist before grabbing his jacket and draping it over his upper body. Although it wasn't quite as warm as the thick wool quilt, the chill of the concrete box around him wasn't too bad, and a slight chill was certainly worth not having the blanket right up under his nose. Turing onto his side, Eric faced away from the sea of screens, trying his best to ignore the sawmill sleeping five feet away from him.

            However, just as Eric closed his eyes and felt himself begin to drift off, a light murmuring reached his ears, pulling him back from slumber. Although cell phones were permitted after lights out, talking was not. Larry could issue a fine, though Eric didn't think the old man had it in him, being as kindhearted as he was. Irritated, Eric waited for the doorman to sort things out.

            However, contrary to his expectation, as time passed the murmuring grew louder. At first it was a trickle, a confused exclamation here, a note of worry there, but as the seconds passed more voices joined the first. The trickle of voices grew into a stream, and then a river, until in a short while an ambient chatter filled the bunker, notes of worry and concern dominating the atmosphere. As the nearby snoring suddenly stopped, Eric realized something was wrong, his drowsiness evaporating as he rolled over to see what was going on.

            Immediately, a blinding light stabbed into Eric's eyes, forcing him to wince and blink until his vision adapted, revealing the source; his phone. Nestled within his shoe with its screen pointed towards him, the small device irradiated him with a piercing white glow, the flash of his phone's camera illuminating the opposite direction. Remembering his dead battery, Eric watched the thing in disbelief, not quite comprehending what he was looking at until, with a lethargic blink, his phone went dark.

            Looking out into the shelter, a similar sight could be seen. Mostly awake by now, the residents of this concrete box could just barely be seen twisting and turning their heads in confusion and alarm, illuminated by the intermittent light of their devices. Eric could sense panic and uncertainty beginning to grow, as people woke their neighbors and wondered aloud what was going on.

            "What's happening?" Eric jumped as Derrick's groggy voice called out from behind him, realizing with a start that he was also on edge. Like the majority of people, he had never experienced an the supernatural in person, though he had assessed enough damages to recognize the event for what it was.

            "Electrical disturbance. The leak's flaring up." Eric's voice croaked as he spoke, his throat dry from nerves.

            "This deep underground?" Derrick  was incredulous. Eric could only shrug in response.

            "Things must be bad up top." Hector's voice called out from the dark, and Eric turned to find the man sitting up from his bedroll, resembling a specter as the ghastly pale light of his phone illuminated him from below. As he watched, the older man turned his phone over, wincing at the light as he pried open his device before removing the battery and setting it beside him. Without its power source, the device went dark.

            "You'd better remove your batteries if you don't want your phones shorting out." At Hector's reminder, Eric hastily mimicked the older man's actions, setting both his phone and his battery beside his shoes. Beside him, Derrick did the same.

            Unsettled by the excitement clamoring through the shelter, Eric stood up and walked over to the table, his nerves refusing to let him sit. Instead, he opted to lean against the table top, allowing the cold of the concrete floor to drift through his sock and into his feet, chasing away whatever drowsiness remained. A moment later, Derrick and Hector joined him by the table, and from the corner of his eye, Eric watched as Will approached, opting to sit at his earlier seat adjacent to the wall.

            Out in the shelter, panic began grow as people's fears began to feed off of one another. For most people, the supernatural was a far off thing, a mysterious force somewhere out in the world. Few had every directly witnessed anything paranormal outside of a museum. Slowly but surely, the uncertainty and fear began to build towards hysteria until a harsh voice called out, cutting through the darkness and panic.

When the supernatural leaks into our world, the results are often less impressive then you'd assume. Eighty percent of the time, something expensive shorts out. Sixteen percent of the time, something strange, but harmless appears. The other four percent of the time, the wizards would clean things up before anyone even knew what was going on. 

But what happens when things fall outside of expectations?

Communicating with fanatical individuals could not be based on common sense. They were usually already convinced of their own theories. Pretending to understand their worldview might end up causing them to resent you. If you instead came across as curious and with humility, they were more willing to share their thoughts with you. 
Sure enough, Peter Lee, as if overcome by an itch, asked, laughing, "You really hit the nail on the head... Have you heard of dark matter?"
Dark matter. Zhang Zian had definitely heard about this energy within scientific literature. However, it was currently only a theory, and no substantial evidence of its actual existence had been found.
Many scientists tended to think that it was because of the existence of dark matter that the universe was constantly expanding rather than contracting. According to theory, mysterious dark matter occupied about 70% of the total material of the universe, and it was the unconstrained master of it all.
Yet it was precisely because dark matter was so mysterious that besides scientists' many speculations about the nature of dark energy, civilians also conjured up a wide variety of whimsical explanations for its existence. Upon hearing this statement, Zhang Zian knew that Peter and the School of Cosmic Information believed an absurd lie about the nature of dark matter. 
Sure enough, Peter said firmly, "Yes! Dark matter is actually the original waves of energy that the universe first released before the dawn of modern civilization. They transcend normal life to a higher stage of being and can leave our current universe. However, dark matter could not bear seeing how unintelligent life struggled through daily living and thus generously dedicated their knowledge to all civilizations in the universe in the form of dark matter!"
Zhang Zian was left speechless.
He would like to brush this off as nonsense. However, the nature of dark matter was something the scientific community could not explain. It was highly similar to God in that one could choose not to believe in God, but no one could prove whether God existed or not. 
Peter Lee continued, "The mandate of the School of Cosmic Information is to study the dark matter in the universe. As long as it can break down the information carried by dark matter, human beings can reach a new evolutionary height…"
Zhang Zian glanced at them and said, "In other words, the heavy responsibility of human evolution falls on your shoulders?"
"You could say that." Peter nodded his head. "But I have to correct you. It is on our shoulders, yet you can also feel and receive pure energy from the universe. Did you not feel the sense of calling within you? As if you are responding to something ancient?"
As there were simply too many people crowded into the small tomb, Zhang Zian only felt that the air in the room was getting more and more stifling. Nevertheless, he decided he should play the part. "It seems that...my body is getting lighter, as if it is floating."
"Yes! That is the feeling! That is why I said you are talented. Even our most senior members have had to sit quietly on their knees and hold each other's hands just to let pure energy blend into their bodies before feeling the same sensation! Yet you felt it so easily!" Peter smiled brightly, as if truly happy for Zhang Zian.
Zhang Zian glanced at them and then looked at the vents sideways. He asked, "You have been to so many places, so why is the cosmic energy here more intense? I mean, isn't there a king's tomb with a similar structure?"
"This…" Peter took a moment before replying with a sense of uncertainty, "We are still learning at the very initial stage. The information about the universe that has been uncovered so far is very limited. We are focused more on the body, on what we feel. We can feel more of that energy here. More intense and pure... If I am to comment, I think it is because this is the center of the Great Pyramid."
What Peter said was true. The Queen's tomb was indeed located in the center of the Great Pyramid, while the King's tomb deviated from the center. The idea was that the tombs of the pharaohs, kings, emperors, and Khan should be at the center of a whole mausoleum or a certain central area of ​​the entire tomb. The ancient Egyptians had unquestionably superior architectural skills and were unlikely to make a low-level mistake. A more reasonable explanation was that the real use of the two tombs had not yet been discovered.

The staff member responsible for guarding this passage saw a huge group of people wanting to leave. It might have been that he did not care for chatter and shouted, "Go! Go! Go! Do not talk! Do not talk!"
He deliberately did not allow them to talk about the Queen's tomb, fearing that the fact that he had accepted the bribe would be overheard by other employees, and that they would definitely ask for a cut of the money. 
He'd gotten used to the dim light of the pyramid, and when he walked out of the hole, he was re-exposed to Egypt's strong summer sunlight. He took in a big breath of fresh air. Zhang Zian's eyes were slightly stung by the sudden strong light, but he felt a sense of revival.

You don't have to worry about money," Pete said. He continued, "Money. What is its use? Once the secrets of cosmic energy are made known, we will enter an advanced stage of living, and money will just be waste paper."

Lin Ming paused, before immediately nodding. What Mu Qianyu said was right. When he had entered the Altering Muscle stage and the Bone Forging stage, his true essence had naturally overflowed and thus, he had spontaneously broken through to the next level. Through this way, his foundation would be the most solid and complete. Otherwise, if he were to use shortcuts to quickly improve, then even though his cultivation would experience a short-term increase, his foundation wouldn't be steady. From then on, the further he cultivated, the more difficult it would become.

Mu Qianyu saw Lin Ming listen to her opinion, free from arrogance and ego, and slightly nodded.

"I have to return to my country. There's a matter I have to settle."

"You're a disciple of the Seven Profound Valleys?" Mu Qianyu guessed this because the closet sect was the Seven Profound Valleys.

"Yes." Lin Ming hesitated, and told it as it was.

"Oh….." The truth was, Mu Qianyu very much wanted to ask Lin Ming if he would be willing to join her Divine Phoenix Island. The words were at the tip of her tongue, but she still hadn't said anything. To have him betray his sect just because of a casual acquaintance, that was simply overdoing it. Moreover, since this young boy had obtained such results, she presumed that the Seven Profound Valleys had invested a great deal of resources in him.

"That's right, I've been wanting to ask. Why did you want the Flood Dragon's blood?" Lin Ming suddenly remembered, curious.

Actually, I had already prepared lucrative terms of exchange, and I didn't think that some blood from the Thunder Flood Dragon would be too big a loss for it. However, the Thunder Flood Dragon wasn't willing to make the exchange, and we finally came to blows. I didn't think that the Thunder Flood Dragon would have less than a hundred years of life remaining so it had fought with everything it had, causing me to suffer a major loss….."

Thinking this, Mu Qianyu ruefully smiled. A Saint Beast had its own pride and arrogance; asking it to sell its blood was truly a grave insult.

"Oh…do you want to stay a few more days to let Little Flame's wounds recover?" Lin Ming mumbled as he lowered his head, also fiddling with the fire.

The Flood Dragon was a promiscuous and overly sexual creature. This Golden Flood Dragon Beast was the result of the Flood Dragon mating with a Gold Armored Rhinoceros; it was one of the many descendants that had been produced from such a union.

It's actually a direct descendant of the Thunder Flood Dragon." Seeing this Golden Flood Dragon beast, Lin Ming was slightly surprised. The Thunder Lizards of Thundercrash Mountain were extremely fierce and dangerous, but most of the Thunder Lizards weren't direct descendants of the Flood Dragon. Rather, they were separated by many generations, and the Flood Dragon bloodline within them had naturally faded over time. However, the existence of this Golden Flood Dragon Beast was due to the Thunder Flood Dragon venturing out in the past dozen or so years and mating with the surrounding wildlife. The Flood Dragon bloodline in this Wurm's body was extremely rich, and its strength was equal to a peak Pulse Condensation martial artist.

'You came at a great time; I just so happen to want to test the power of the Purple Flood Dragon Divine Thunder! This place is near Thundercrash Mountain. Once I leave this area, It would be very difficult to find a top quality vicious beast that is equal to a peak Pulse Condensation martial artist.'

Lin Ming flicked his finger, and a steel needle, with a Purple Flood Dragon coiled around it, immediately jumped to his fingertip, spinning. This was the Purple Flood Dragon Divine Thunder's Thunder Soul. Although it contained an incomparably violent and savage power of thunder, it couldn't be seen at a glance as anything too threatening or unusual. The power of thunder was highly compressed inside of the needle; not even a tiny bit leaked out.

If a martial artist didn't have an acutely pure and strong soul force, then they would have no way of seeing the volatile and dangerous energies that composed the needle. They would only think that it looked like a solid steel needle.

This was the symbol of a high-grade thunder – thunder manifestation.

Energy was the origin of all. Once this energy became extremely compressed, it would manifest into a tangible substance.

The Golden Flood Dragon Beast's dark amber eyes locked onto Lin Ming, a murderous aura overflowing from it. Its dull perception hadn't grasped or noticed the danger within the steel needle, so it didn't place Lin Ming in its eyes. It only regarded Lin Ming as a delicious afternoon lunch.

"Roar!"

The Golden Flood Dragon Beast madly howled as it tore towards Lin Ming, its sharp claws aimed to pierce his throat, wanting to tear this human into shreds.

Lin Ming remained motionless. With a small flick of his finger, the Coiling Dragon steel needle instantly vanished from Lin Ming's fingertip. That small light cut through space at an extraordinary speed without even a shred of sound.

In that split second, light itself seemed to distort as space was split in half by a thin purple line. The Coiling Dragon steel needle sank into the Golden Flood Dragon Beast's mouth and penetrated cleanly through, without even a bit of blood.

The Golden Flood Dragon Beast's body fiercely trembled, its vision blurred, as Lin Ming disappeared from its sight. The Golden Flood Dragon Beast fell to the ground in a vacant daze as it continued to shake. It didn't understand what happened, and that the aching pain it felt was from that instantaneous light that had shot out.

It growled, intending to rush towards Lin Ming again. But at this moment, a purple arc of electricity snaked out from its mouth and its wounds, rampaging all over its body. The manically savage and blazingly hot thunder fire caused the Golden Flood Dragon Beast to howl in suffering. Its body violently struggled and ultimately was unable to escape the final fate of death. It fell to the ground, burned through and through, as it was turned into a charred husk by the thunder.

Lin Ming let out a cool breath. Although he had prepared himself, the power of the Purple Flood Dragon Divine Thunder had gone beyond the scope of his imagination. A peak Pulse Condensation vicious beast had been killed in a single strike! Of course, much of this had to do with the weak perception of the Golden Flood Dragon Beast. It simply hadn't realized that the Coiling Dragon steel needle contained such a horrifying power.

'The Purple Flood Dragon Divine Thunder is currently more powerful than my Thunderfire Annihilation. The best part is that it doesn't consume true essence. It's not like Thunderfire Annihilation, where it consumes 30 or 40 percent of my true essence within a single strike. Right now the Heretical God Seed's Flame Essence is simply far weaker than the Thunder Soul. If the difference in power is too great, it would have an adverse detrimental effect on Thunderfire Annihilation's power. I'll have to wait until I obtain the Flame Essence from the Fire Worm Tribe before I can use Thunderfire Annihilation again.'

Thinking this, Lin Ming casually caught a deer and returned to the cave.

Mu Qianyu had some interest in cooking; she took towards barbecuing with gusto. Although Mu Qianyu hadn't yet cooked food before, she had been using her soul force to carefully observe each and every part of the barbecue. By relying on the control of her soul force, she was able to make sure that the meat was perfectly grilled without a single burn. However, regardless of how she cooked it, she still couldn't reproduce the tasty flavor from when Lin Ming did the roasting.

Lin Ming would hunt, barbecue, and then make delicious soup. He mediated in his spare time, and occasionally talked with Mu Qianyu; chatting about new, strange and funny things. The days passed peacefully, filled with light and warmth.

On the morning of the third day, the Vermillion Bird faced the rising sun, and stretched out its great fiery crimson wings. Lin Ming clearly knew that it was time the two of them parted ways.

"What matter would you like me to help you with?" Mu Qianyu had just washed her face, and she gazed at the rising sun. Her hands covered her eyes, and her voice was softly faint.

Lin Ming was about to shake his head, but then he suddenly remembered something. He said, "I want to kill a man. He is weaker than me, but it still won't be easy killing him. Most of the time he stays in his mansion surrounded by guards. If I decide to make my move, then I will have to do it without being caught and without leaving any evidence. Do you have any means to do so?"

In the Realm of the Gods, countless legends fought over a mysterious cube. After the battle it disappeared into the void. Lin Ming stumbles upon this mystery object and begins his journey to become a hero of the land.

Together, these universes comprise everything that exists: the entirety of space, time, matter, energy, information, and the physical laws and constants that describe them.
The different universes within the multiverse are called "parallel universes", "other universes", "alternate universes", or "alterverses".

Scientists such as Stephen M. Feeney analyzed Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe data and claimed to find evidence suggesting that our universe collided with other universes in the distant past.
However, a more thorough analysis of data from the WMAP and from the Planck satellite, which has a resolution 3 times higher than WMAP, did not reveal any statistically significant evidence of such a bubble universe collision.
In addition, there was no evidence of any gravitational pull of other universes on ours.

In his 2003 New York Times opinion piece, "A Brief History of the Multiverse", author and cosmologist Paul Davies offered a variety of arguments that multiverse theories are non-scientific:.
George Ellis, writing in August 2011, provided a criticism of the multiverse, and pointed out that it is not a traditional scientific theory.
He accepts that the multiverse is thought to exist far beyond the cosmological horizon. He emphasized that it is theorized to be so far away that it is unlikely any evidence will ever be found.
Ellis also explained that some theorists do not believe the lack of empirical testability falsifiability is a major concern, but he is opposed to that line of thinking:
Ellis says that scientists have proposed the idea of the multiverse as a way of explaining the nature of existence. 
He points out that it ultimately leaves those questions unresolved because it is a metaphysical issue that cannot be resolved by empirical science. He argues that observational testing is at the core of science and should not be abandoned.

Max Tegmark and Brian Greene have devised classification schemes for the various theoretical types of multiverses and universes that they might comprise.
Level IV: Ultimate ensemble: The ultimate mathematical universe hypothesis is Tegmark's own hypothesis.
This level considers all universes to be equally real which can be described by different mathematical structures.
 Level III: Many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics: Hugh Everett III's many-worlds interpretation (MWI) is one of several mainstream interpretations of quantum mechanics.
In brief, one aspect of quantum mechanics is that certain observations cannot be predicted absolutely. Instead, there is a range of possible observations, each with a different probability.
According to the MWI, each of these possible observations corresponds to a different universe.
Suppose a six-sided die is thrown and that the result of the throw corresponds to a quantum mechanics observable. All six possible ways the die can fall correspond to six different universes.

Level II: Universes with different physical constants: In the eternal inflation theory, which is a variant of the cosmic inflation theory, the multiverse or space as a whole is stretching and will continue doing so forever, but some regions of space stop stretching and form distinct bubbles . Such bubbles are embryonic level I multiverses.
Different bubbles may experience different spontaneous symmetry breaking, which results in different properties, such as different physical constants. Related to the many-worlds idea are Richard Feynman's multiple histories interpretation and H. Dieter Zeh's many-minds interpretation.
Level I: An extension of our universe: A prediction of cosmic inflation is the existence of an infinite ergodic universe, which, being infinite, must contain Hubble volumes realizing all initial conditions.
Accordingly, an infinite universe will contain an infinite number of Hubble volumes, all having the same physical laws and physical constants. In regard to configurations such as the distribution of matter, almost all will differ from our Hubble volume.
However, because there are infinitely many, far beyond the cosmological horizon, there will eventually be Hubble volumes with similar, and even identical, configurations. Tegmark estimates that an identical volume to ours should be about 1010115 meters away from us.
This follows directly from the cosmological principle, wherein it is assumed that our Hubble volume is not special or unique.
