He had slept a full eighteen hours and no longer looked that sleep deprived, he took a shower, had a coffee, ordered a take-out and then the ghost tackled him. 

Yet rather than her passing through him, she had actually made him fall to her own shock. 

"Oh dear, I'm so sorry!!" She flailed her hands. "I didn't think I…" 

He sighed. "Did you think my writing talent was something a human should be capable of?" 

"...Yeah?" She asked, confused. 

"Fine, just get off, I don't enjoy laying on the floor." He looked irritated. 

"Oh, that was a joke!" Gears clicked in her head as she got up.  

He groaned. "Don't rub it in." But he could now get up as well. He rubbed his hip, but let it be a few moments later. 

"Okay, so, my name is Mandy! What's yours?" The girl started the introductions. He had said he would talk with her and she had also waited for him to get a shower, coffee and… she thought he would need breakfast and calling the take-out answered that. She wasn't so insensitive that she would keep someone from taking basic care of themselves. 

Yet rather than replying to that, he said. "Five questions. I will answer only five, so ask carefully." 

"Uh--" The girl squinted her eyes like she had been cheated.   

"I have another deadline coming up soon." He explained. "After eating I'll get to work." 

She reluctantly nodded. "What's your name?" She didn't feel like it was right to call him by the name on the book without asking. 

"August," he confirmed that the name on the book had been indeed his real one. 

Well, it was a wasted question then, but Mandy hadn't wished to guess with something as important as a name. "August, why did you ignore me for three days?" 

"I had no time to waste on conversations," he replied. 

Her eyes squinted dangerously and her hands raised up ominously, so August felt like he had to keep speaking. 

"Most humans don't see ghosts and I look human enough, so unless you were too fresh as a ghost you wouldn't have known I could see you, so no damage done?" 

Mandy sighed. He had a point. "What are you then?" 

"Half-human, half-ghost," August replied. 

Mandy thought a bit, confusion written over her features. "How is that possible?"

"If one of your parents is a ghost, other is human, you get something like that."

"I mean - how? Humans can't touch or see us normally, except..."

August put up fingers and listed: "All hallows, winter solstice, anytime when someone holds walpurgis," he lowered his fingers, "and there are certain places in the world where that isn't a problem. In eastern europe, there's a whole month where dead and living can intermingle and there are also cursed forests and whatnot, so you just have to travel a lot."

"Oh," Mandy nodded. "So they met like that?"

"No." 

"How did they meet then?" Mandy leaned closer. 

"Aren't you out of questions already?" August peered at her. 

"Don't be that stingy, it counts as a reply to the previous one. 'Yes/No' isn't a proper answer." Mandy narrowed her eyes at August. 

"Fine," he sighed. His breakfast hadn't arrived yet, so he told her the story as pieced together from bits and pieces told by his parents.

"It happened twenty eight years ago..."

Inside a luxurious looking mansion, second floor,  behind high rococo styled doors at the very end of a long hall was a pastel colored bedroom. Furnished with white, elegant furniture, landscape paintings by the walls. Inside the room were two figures - an old man in the bed and a younger one standing beside it.  

"I'll have you stay here for the night," the old man said, he was wrinkled and seemed to be close to seventy. 

The young man nodded, no surprise on his features. If his eyes weren't moss green and his stance wasn't so firm, giving a sense of good health and strength, you might have mixed him up with the sleep deprived writer of the present. He wore a classic casual outfit reminding of someone well off, the only slightly odd detail was him wearing silk-like black gloves. 

"I'll turn off the lights then," the younger man said, this time it was the turn of the old man to nod. 

The younger man went to a wall nearby and pressed a switch. With a faint click the lights went off and the man returned to the bedside of the old man, leaning by a wall.  

They didn't converse and while the old man did cast glimpses at the young man for a while, soon he closed his eyes and his breathing slowed down.

The young man, however, kept a careful watch of the whole room. He remained still and silent for half an hour at least, till a faint glow appeared by the ceiling. 

A beautiful girl floated down from above - dark gold hair and dark brown eyes. She was wearing a white sundress and a hay hat, but rather than seeming as outdoorsy as her clothes might hint at she looked similarly sleep deprived to one certain writer, like she hadn't seen much sun. She was beautiful in spite of her visibly bad sleeping habits and unhealthy paleness. 

Even if the young man had put on something reminding of a fighting stance upon spotting the glow, that had loosened, as he was caught by surprise. 

As the ghost reached out for the old man, the young man took her hand, pulling her towards him. Despite what one would expect, his hand did not pass through her and she was equally shocked about it. 

"Wha--"

"Shh." The man gestured, pointing at the sleeping man. 

The whole situation was so utterly shocking to the ghost that she closed her mouth and let herself be pulled away from the bed.

The old man shifted a little bit in his sleep, but didn't wake up. 

The young man, in the meantime, had reached the balcony doors and carefully opened them, going out, pulling the ghost along with him. She kept looking at him, then back at the bed, back and forth, too confused to resist. The sounds of a fountain met them and so did a scenery of a rose garden illuminated by the moonlight below them. 

The girl's expression changed from bewildered to suspicious to just confused by the time the man had closed the doors behind him. 

"Are you the only ghost haunting him?" The man asked with a soft smile. 

"...in this house, probably," the girl replied.  

A trace of relief passed the young man's features. "You know, he's already married and old…"  

Her jaw dropped. "What-- are-- you s-s-s-saying, I-I-I-- " 

He laughed.

She pouted. "Listen here… "

"Raegan," he dropped his name. 

"Reagan. I'm not interested in that old man in--" She was clearly embarrassed. "...that way." 

"Oh, that's a relief," Reagan said, his eyes were smiling, even if he tried to fake a relieved expression. "What's your name, by the way?" 

"Hilary," the girl replied. "Don't say it - I know it doesn't fit…" She added. 

"Pleased to meet, you, Hilary." Raegan kept smiling but this time without any fake expressions overlaid on top. 

"Likewise," the girl slightly bowed her head, her hand shifted a little and it seemed like she might have curtsied, had her hands been free. 

"Since you've made it clear that you don't see the old man in "that way", does that mean I might have a chance?" Reagan asked. 

She pursed her lips, then glanced away. "Stop joking around," the girl said, pouting again and looking at her hand that was being firmly held. 

"I'm not." he said all that with a straight and open face. "I'd be open to be haunted by you anytime~" He winked. 

"Pff" She laughed.

"Ah, don't laugh about my feelings," he replied with an amused expression, yet there was a serious tint in there. 

"It almost sounds like love at first sight," She said, tilting her head lightly. "For a ghost at that." She felt unsure, her eyes seeking for any trace of deceit. 

"What if it is?" He asked, no trace of deceit present.   

Her eyes flickered as she looked up at him. She had a hard time believing him, this was too sudden, yet he didn't seem to be lying either. It didn't help that they were amongst a beautiful scenery, under the moonlight and that his face was very much to her liking.  

It took a moment before she could part her lips and say… "I can't leave this house. I have tried but…"

He raised up his other hand and put a strand of her hair behind her ear. She trembled a bit at the touch, but relaxed as he retracted his hand.   

He was smiling still. "As long as you wish to follow me more than stay here, you will be able to go." 

Her eyes widened first, then she finally smiled as well. Those words that sounded so much like a beautiful lie - she couldn't help but believe them.

With that the writer finished his tale. His pride as a writer had him retell the story it in this manner. And seeing the story told in this manner Mandy refrained from interrupting him even if she had a lot of questions.  

"That is so-- romantic," the ghost in the present day turned around in the air. "What happened after?" 

"You are out of questions," the writer said. 

"That's unfair!" she thrashed in midair, but the writer did not budge.

A bell at the door rang and the writer got up. "Finally." 

He had ordered some pizzas for breakfast. Not the healthiest choice, but there wasn't anything about August that would scream 'health concerned'. Mandy, of course, poked him. "At least answer some bits about the story you told!" 

"Why was your dad in that old man's house?" 

"Work." 

Mandy squinted her eyes again. 

"He's an exorcist." Other replies among the munching included: 

"Dad could always see ghosts and other astrals, family lineage has some other astral creatures mixed in, so most of my relatives can see."
"Astrals are spirits, monsters, gods, what have you - not humans."
"What do you mean - of course they exist - if ghosts are real shouldn't other oddities be real too?"
"I've never heard of Easter bunny being real, no,"
(To that Mandy seemed sad) 
"His gloves are widow silk: stuff both physical and astral things can touch, woven by a spider monster with female upper half."
"I have no idea how he got them."  
"Mother hated the old man, so she gave him nightmares and had him pee his bed all the time." (To which Mandy laughed) 
"Yes, you can haunt humans rather than houses, but you need to really like the human for that. Hatred doesn't do the trick."

August finished eating and went to work. Mandy made him coffee and in exchange got more books to read. These weren't by August, however.

An eccentric writer moves into a haunted apartment, yet it seems like he simply doesn't notice the ghost floating around. Soon enough it turns out that he was actually ignoring the ghost. She found out and that's how their life together properly began.

But you always have to face the fact.

This story tells you about a main character together with all her friends who have face reality and figure out the truth to a mystery that has never been solved for 7 years.

The sun rose brilliantly on Subangdaku. Anyone would have thought it would be a great day but unfortunately, it was not. Health facilities in the small district were full to the brim, especially in the  public hopsital. People were still suffering from extreme cough, fever, colds, and muscle pains. There was still no clear explanation about the incident, except for the theory that an unfamiliar substance from the meteor could have caused the flu-like outbreak. Hence, the people were still fighting an unknown disease and this made them more panicky and terrified with each passing hour.

Like other similar facilities, a certain private clinic was catering to overloaded capacity. People writhing in pain and suffering were found in its lobby. Inside the ward rooms, patients were crowded on the meager floor space. It was in one of these rooms that an elderly man had a massive attack that fine Thursday morning.

He was sleeping soundly few minutes ago but when he woke up, he complained that he felt something like a knot of thick phlegm choking his throat. He was barely talking that time but when more nurses came to him, he felt more anxious and worried that his symptoms seemed to worsen. In a matter of seconds, he was violently shaking in his bed.

The nurses tried to restrain him but his present plight appeared to give him more strength so that he easily knocked the hands that touched him. By and by, he began coughing hard while trembling wildly in bed. With one last cough, he vomitted blood and phlegm on the floor. He opened his mouth wide to suck in air but he immediately lost breath. Instantly, he collapsed on his bed, cold and frigid.

One patient screamed despite her broken voice. The other patients also joined in as more nurses and doctors rushed to the scene. The man's primary doctor looked for a pulse and finding none, he shook his head. They did all means to revive him but only failed. By 7:52 AM, the old man was declared dead.

"Another death from the outbreak," one of the nurses said under her breath.

"Yes, the second one," her colleague answered.

"Will I also die?" their patient asked.

They looked at him, pity and sadness in their eyes. They could not give any assurance, particularly that it was an onerous time for the  citizens of the district. The news about the new death spread rapidly throughout Subangdaku, sending everyone to a heightened state of panic and fear. In the local district health center, the situation was no less challenging.

"Please observe physical distancing," Cecilia was barking at the people in the lobby. "And your mask, wear them properly."

"Miss Nurse, have you heard the latest news?" someone asked. "There was a new death just an hour ago." 

"Well, we should not be surprised," she answered. "More can die from this outbreak." 

"Please don't scare us. No one should die anymore." 

"We are fighting an unknown enemy," Tara interjected. "We don't know yet this thing from the meteor." 

"So we will just get sick and sick?" 

"Probably. It will never stop until there is a cure."

A sick woman cried. Already, life was hard for her, and this outbreak made life even more oppressive. 

"So I will just wait for death to come," she said. 

"Well, the government and Dr. Alvarado are working hard to discover what this disease is and how it can be cured," Cecilia said and raised an eyebrow at the woman. "Don't be so negative."

"I don't think I can survive," she said dejectedly. 

"Well, good luck."

However, the second death did not reach the newspapers as it happened after printing was done. Sonny heard about it though and while waiting for Estella to come out of her apartment, he opened the newspaper and began reading. Their black company vehicle had been like a second home to him and thus, he enjoyed having his coffee, reading the news, and having meals inside it. He scanned for the news about the recent death and indeed, it was still not in it.

"I guess we'll just have to drop by the clinic first and cover the news," he said to himself.

He skimmed the newspaper's contents and found something intriguing. It said that experts found out that the composition of the  meteor was not exactly the same as any substance on Earth. It was something novel and unique. Arbitrarily called as Subangdakudium, the new substance offered infinitesimal possibilities.

Sonny checked the paper and it was a tabloid type known for publishing unverified news, controversial commentaries, and overdone editorials. He went back reading the news feature, curious about the entirety of its contents.

According to the undisclosed writer, what was more concerning was the unknown disease caused by the substance. Because of its unfamiliarity, usual medicines to treat the fever, cough, and other simple sicknesses associated with the outbreak might not work at all. The writer called the disease as Falling Star Plague. The spread of illnesses might also not end sooner as the meteor crash could left countless dust suspended in Subangdaku. Eventhough there would be no local transmission from one person to another, anyone who inhaled the dust could be contacted with the disease. Moreover, he urged the local government to respond quickly like putting up more medical facilities and research laboratories for the new substance.

Sonny was blown by what he had just read. It was more like an opinion column than a news article. The theories were supported by some scientific explanations which impressed him a little bit. But as a whole, it sounded more like a fiction than a worthy news. For Sonny, it was the possible repercussions that worried him. The claims in the paper were not simple; they were actually worrisome and horrifying. What if they were all true? How would the readers handle such information?

"This writer is kind of irresponsible," Sonny whispered.

The passenger door suddenly opened. Estella hopped in and arranged her stuffs.

"You looked shaken," she remarked upon seeing Sonny's face.

"I really am," he answered. "You need to see this."

He handed her the newspaper and watched her face changed from being beaming to serious and then confused....

In a small isolated village among the trees a little cottage colored with a bright purple and with a weird roof in the shape of a big magician's hat not far from him another wooden cottage from which we can hear battle cries. Inside there was a boy and a girl who are fighting hand-naked, a huge boy was watching them, next to him a blade old man who sips saki and stares at the girl when she bows. The boy who was in combat had a orange hair and his name is Hexous, he can manipulate all types of fire, and the other girl with an indigo hair is called Sabiliathan, she have the power to manipulate everything gaseous, the boy spectator is called Goromut the earth is his domain his eyes are always closed and he is usually in a silent mode, the pervert who sips saki known as Yohan-sensei a magician of caliber. Hexous interrupts the fantasies of his master and says to him: "You don't have to shake like a snake your back will hurt you again, besides it is not even worth it, it's as if you look at a wall all flat..." Hexous flew into the sky before ending his speech and sabil told him in a tone of annoyance: "This is the nth time I tell you that I'm growing up, and for you old pervert get out of here" *pushes him with an attack outside the dojo* "I got yamched for 666 times and this wall had been repaired a lot that it can't be repaired again": adds Hexous who has the red cheek, "Really?Are we gonna see the same scenario every day. Really, Writer-san you have no creativity. * A sudden thunderbolt struck him * even if the sky is clear no cloud and he is inside the dojo, Hexous continues his monologue with a serious tone: "you see what I'm telling you, you don't accept the reality that you have no skills for a writer in addition there is not even logic in your drawing a thunderbolt that appears in the middle of a rooftop dojo and the sky is all clear? What else you can do ? Create a personage similar to Kira and give him my name? * Feels a slight heart attack, joins his feet and puts his hands on his legs * and said "Sorry let me live a little please please I'll be a good boy". A woman enters the dojo through the hole, runs towards her and begins to cry in her chest saying : "Felecia-san Hexous and Yohan, still laughing about the size of my chest" Felecia tries to console her and pressed her to her chest, saying "do not worry darling one day you're going to grow up and she's going to grow up with you", Sabil pushed her and ran to the cottage shouting: Felicia, you idiot cow homewrecker", "Ara what happened to her" Hexous interrupts her: "you'll do better to represent yourself 'launch-san' " "ah yes I had to forget" * turns to the 4th wall and bends down * "my name is Felicia I share me and Yohan-sensei and a brute called Casper the same body and with a sneeze we switch our bodies. Hexous interrupts it again :"It means that you and this Casper are just parasites "   *2 'Migi' one with Felecia's hair the other with Casper hair appears in Felecia's imagination, she shake her head horizontally to erase that from her head* "Ahem, no we aren't parasites because being in his body we do not need anything. Hexous questions her again: "But tell me there are questions that intrigue me when you change your body your sexes change too? Yes. And if Yohan-sensei is in the toilets of men and he sneezes what will you do?" "You never find him in the men's washroom" answered instantly. Hexous on his knees disappointed, answer with a long: "I knowwww", *changes the subject* "I am not really convinced that you can show me if you are a woman or a man for scientific reasons of course" Felicia questions : "don't you see my big chest ? "Yes, yes, but if not the case for traps," said Hexous and blink, Felicia laughs and pushes up a little of her dress, but she was stopped by Goromut who opened her eye, which means "stop it right now." ". Hexous walks out of the dojo, muttering, "Killjoy", and Felicia bend down again in front of the 4th wall, then slowly sneezes and becomes a man of about 35 years old who looks stupid with his smile and says while laughing: "ah aha ha ha, It's me Casper a magician apprentice, student of Yohan-sensei ah aha ha ha",

So as promised, here is the Christmas Q&A for System Programmer. Special thanks to everyone who asked a question. :)


Let's start with the questions aimed at me personally : 

Q: Can you tell us more about yourself? 

Sure. I'm a 33 year old Belgian. I guess I'm a lot of older of the average web novel writer, lol.  I've been working as a software developer for about a decade now. I used to write a lot back in high school but college & real-life work kinda got in the way and I only recently picked up this hobby again and System Programmer is the first novel I'm writing. 

Q: What were some of the inspirations for this novel?

So I'm sure most of you have read a system novel. The main character lives an ordinary life and suddenly gets a system out of nowhere, most of the time by dying and being reincarnated. Have you never wondered? Who the hell is making those systems? Is there like a company in heaven distributing them to heroes? Someone should write a book about that! Wait a minute…

Q: What's your favorite color?

Q: What made you come up with the idea of having the MC, Joshua, being a summoned soul instead of having him reincarnate and being able to summon a soul?

To continue on the previous question: my first idea was that Catherine would be the world's chosen heroine and she would be granted a system by the heavens to complete her task. However, the system was still a beta version and would be buggy as hell. So the heavens would send her a recently deceased programmer in order to debug the system. In this early draft, Joshua was stuck inside Catherine's head that would look like some sort of sci-fi command center, trying to figure stuff out. 

I ended up alternating it for several reasons:

Having Joshua being the creator of the system makes the whole world much more personal for him. While it would have been funny to have him press random buttons to see what it does and accidentally turn Catherine's skin blue or some other dumb stuff would have been amusing, it would also have gotten old quickly. Besides, if Joshua had wasted like 10 chapters figuring out how to use the system to program a 'Hello World!' command, the plot would be moving at a snail's pace.  In the current version, Joshua knows how the system works since he made it and is slowly adding functionalities to it. Luna is his life's work, Joshua considers it his magnum opus.  

As for why have him being summoned & not vice-versa, I always saw Joshua more as a tactician than a fighter, while Catherine has been training for more than a decade now. Being inside Catherine's head allows him on developing stuff, which he loves, while Catherine does most of the day to day business. 


Q: Where do you stop on power levels? Is there a chance main characters could have powers rivaling of God in the future?

I do not intend to go past the 10 ranks I've introduced, as for how powerful they will be then, we'll see. 

Q: What are some of your favorite books, in print or online?

Hmm, let's see. I'm a big fan of fantasy novels (Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, A Song of Fire and Ice, currently reading the Kingkiller Chronicles)
I also like good mystery novel like Agatha Christie. 
I do love Lovecraftian horror, even though I've read some Lovecraft and I find his style very hard to read.
As for Joshua, I would say his favorite novel is probably 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea'. 

Q: Why hasn't Joshua done …. (insert OP thing here) yet? / Will Joshua ever do ….?

This is a grouping of several questions.  So, I think you all understand I'm not going to reveal future plot points in this Q&A. I'm not going to ruin my own story. :D

However, I'll address the issue: Please consider that since the start of the novel, less than 2 months have passed. In that regard, we can say Joshua has accomplished a LOT. If any real programmer could do 1% of what Joshua did in 2 months he would probably be a billionaire. :D

Q: WHERE IS THE FREAKING RAILGUN???????????

So, I know a LOT of people have commented about Joshua developing a railgun. He may do it eventually. But keep in mind, at his core, Joshua is a programmer. What's interesting him right now is runes and he's not really interested in guns. The way he developed those combat drones matches his personality a lot more than a firearm.

Will Joshua and Catherine end up together? Or will Catherine end up with someone else, and our man Joshua will end up forever alone?

Oh boy, what did I say about no future spoilers, lol. Let me say this: I consider the relationship between Joshua & Catherine one of the most important parts of the novel. Now, as you all have noticed, the link between the two is pretty unusual. I dare say, Joshua does love Catherine. He said so himself a few times. Although, he doesn't consider it romantic love and he's very happy with his current situation. I do believe if there is ever a change in that, it will most likely come from Catherine & not him. 


Joshua: I don't see why everyone is so confused, how many men can claim to be inside their soulmate 24/7? Most don't even last 5 minutes.

Haha. This isn't Terminator. Joshua designed Luna to always protect its user, and Luna isn't a sentient being. Of course, Joshua died before the final version went in mass-production so who knows what the people who take over the project will do. :D


Q: Is the underground similar to the Dragon Age Deep Roads?

The main inspiration for the underworld is the Underdark found in D&D. I'm fairly certain the Deep Roads are also based on the Underdark. If you're unfamiliar with the concept, imagine gigantic caverns below ground spreading for kilometers without end, with bizarre civilizations living in some areas. (mostly evil bastards)

Q:  Are there different cultivation systems in other/current world's we know the summoner path are there other types?

Probably, if you take other worlds into account I guess each one has their specialty. They're most likely not be relevant to the plot though. 

Q: Can animals use the summoner system and if not why?

Animals don't know how to cultivate as far as we know so nope. 

Q: Will Joshua ever think to build a weapon platform in orbit of the planet and fire a metal rod at high speed to kill that Crow if they meet again?

Q: To extrapolate on energy, I feel that Joshua with technology and Catherine on nature, the two are absolutely capable of growing off of each other. (perhaps something like zoological domes and terrariums in Joshua's side, which could be breeding biodiversity to be released? As Catherine's world gets bigger, so does the amount of different biomes she can have. (Variations on forest or plains at first? jungle could get poison and the like? Magical biomes n stuff?)

So this is a very interesting question, but going into details would be very spoilerific. I do intend to have Catherine & Joshua grow together in some way like Joshua's been doing with his dams. We'll see how they evolve. :D


Q: What are the gods in this story's world? Every author that dabble with the divine have different interpretations of what gods are, so what's yours would be?


Interesting. So far, the only characters that are supposed to be Gods so far are Leonard and the Crow. We have no idea what Leonard can do for now. As for the Crow, while he's obviously very powerful. He's clearly not as omnipotent he pretends to be. The simple fact that Joshua managed to escape from him indicates that. What the limit of their abilities is, that is something we'll find later on though, so please be patient.

Q: For how long will this novel go on?

No one actually asked this, but I figure I'll add it myself. I have a general draft of the whole plot and I know how I want the story to end. I think it will come down to 4 or 5 volumes in total. I hope to finish the story by the end of next year, but no promises. :D 

Q: (For Webnovel only) Have you consider going premium? 

So I got contacted by the Webnovel staff about 2 months ago and they asked me if I was interested in becoming a contracted author. I did turn the offer down. The main reason is I do work full-time as a software developer. Webnovel mostly encourages the authors to release at least a chapter per day and once you're contracted you have to write X number of words every month. With my current job, this is an impossible rhythm for me and I like to write at my own pace.

I am working towards a release on Amazon Kindle, however. I hired someone to edit volume 1 and I have an artist friend who is making me a nice cover. :D The novel will remain free to read on both Webnovel and Royal Road though, don't worry. The Kindle release will be there for people who want to support this little writing project. We'll see how it goes, but for now, I'm aiming for a release around the end of January.

Joshua: Even for imaginary objects, there has to be some logic behind them. If I try to make an object that's literally impossible to make, it won't work. Imagine if Catherine asked me to create a sword that could cut through anything. The only way I could make this is if I had knowledge of every material in the universe and had a method on how to cut them then combine them into a single weapon. It's just impossible. 

Q: Do you think you can after leveling up more create a Virtual World (like Matrix) in your Soul World?

Joshua: Only if I get to cosplay as Neo.

If you dedicate your life to a cause that's productive to mankind and allow it progress further, then yes, your life a lot of value. If, on the contrary, you're a scumbag who murders people in their sleep for fun, then your contribution to the global effort is negative, and you're better off dead. Bottom line is, everyone must find their own answer. I already stated mine in the story, I want to see mankind evolve and see where progress takes it. When he had read that part, he had gotten goosebumps and after consulting with some other editors he had felt that this part was too intense. That's why he had told Rei to cut it down a bit.

But he really wanted to know how he had written that part in that much detail. No, he wanted to know how Rei, a 16 year old had written a novel this good.

After that part, they went on to some other parts and after a hour, they finally reached the ending.

"Yeah, the main character wasn't a good character to begin with, he was someone who never realised his talent and after realising it, he destroyed his talent and make mistakes he couldn't handle. In the end, his fate was dying"

"I have one more question, In the whole novel, I felt some hatred towards the main character, no I am certain after meeting you, you hated the main character, right"

Rei certainly hated the main character, no he hated his past self which the character was based on.

After hearing Rei's answers, Nagamo-san fall into a silence and started thinking about something and after some minutes, he finally said.

"You aren't a ghost writer, right"

Nagamo-san question amused Rei. Anyone would certainly doubt Rei as a ghost writer if they read his novel.

"Do I look like one?"

"No, you don't, although I have previously doubts about you, from talking to you, I think that you are the real writer"

"That's good but you don't want to change the ending"

"No, it was perfect for your novel"

"Thank you and the publishing"

"Oh, congratulations Yuuki sensei, our publishing house wants to publish your novel. No, Please let me take care of your novel"

Nagamo-san hold a hand towards Rei as he said that and after thinking it through, Rei holded Nagamo-san hand. It was the start of a cooperation which will change the literary industry in the future.

The atmosphere was tense. Nagamo-san was in a editorial department meeting.

Sitting in front of him was the the head editor and the topic of discussion was Rei's novels.

"What do you think about the novel" Nagamo-san asked the head editor and there was anxiousness in his voice.

Nagamo-san had already confirmed Rei's book for publication. He can do it as he has that authority as a senior editor but he still wanted to know the thoughts of the head editor.

The head editor was a old man with a moustache. He opened his mouth to give his thoughts about the novel and Nagamo-san was carefully listening.

"I never read anything before like that, you said it was written by a 16 year old"

"Yeah, it is"

"Congratulations, you have found a genius"

"You think so"

"This novel had everything that can make the readers interested in it. It's characters have distinct personalities and it tells you a very important lesson"

"A important lesson?"

"Yeah, it tells that sometimes geniuses are both made and destroyed by the circumstances"

"Yeah, on one side is the protagonist, who is a genius and on the other side is his rival which at start loses to him but in the end, the circumstances made him a winner. It really is a intriguing story"

"So, what do you think. Will this novel sell. What would you think the readers response would be"

"It will sell, I am sure of it. Readers will first buy it as the author is still a high school student. It will be a curiosity at first but it will soon change into craziness for the novel"

As the knocks came from the door, Li Wei and Moody Writer looked at each other curiously. The former was wondering about what he should do while the latter found it strange that someone knocked at her door. If someone wanted to meet him, they would usually contact him first through the Alchemist Association; coming directly was definitely unusual.

He let out a quiet, "This is strange..." as he stood up. He quickly deduced that it was an alchemist but that was strange since normally, alchemists would not do such a thing unless there was an emergency. The tiniest distraction could cause an alchemist to fail their concoction and so, it was considered impolite to disturb alchemists when they were training in their private rooms.

Hearing that, Li Wei quickly said: "I mentioned it before but the receptionist I talked to at the entrance also wanted to trade the items. I did not show him anything..."

The two were smart, Moody Writer thought for a moment and quickly answered: "Don't worry about that. I'll deal with it. There's an emergency exit behind that curtain. You can use that to leave discreetly!"

Li Wei quickly stood up and pull the curtain and effectively, there was a small door behind it. He looked at Moody Writer with a grateful smile, "Thanks!"

It was not that he was scared of confronting the receptionist, but it was better to avoid any trouble. After all, that guy belonged to a guild and might have brought his leaders with him. After going through the door, he quickly placed the curtain back into its original position, covering the emergency exit and closed the door. 

At the same time, he heard the door opening and a muffled conversation.

In the room, it was effectively the receptionist that came knocking at the door; behind him, a couple that belonged to his guild was expressionlessly waiting. After being rejected by Li Wei, he knew that there was no way for him to obtain the precious item. The receptionist resorted to asking his guild leaders to step forward. Both were Grade 0 Alchemists from a mid-tier guild and were naturally very interested in an item that could possibly level up their profession.

As for the receptionist, while he knew he has lost an opportunity, reporting this incident would at least get him some benefits from his guild for sharing this information.

Moody Writer immediately frowned upon seeing the trio, he instantly recognized the first one as a receptionist from the guild which matched with what Li Wei just said. As for the couple, he also recognized them; they belonged to the guild, Giants who previously rejected him when he applied for it.

"Good afternoon Moody Writer. It looks like you are doing very well," greeted the female alchemist. At the same time, the trio scanned through the room behind Moody Writer and frowned.

"Not as good as you, guild masters. May I ask what the reason for your visit is?" expressionlessly asked Moody Writer. 

"According to one of our guild members, there is someone that came to visit you asking for a particular trade... I am simply curious about that person," said the guild master. He came with his wife as soon as he received the message from the receptionist. Not even 30 minutes went by since he received the message but, the person was nowhere to be seen.

"Ah yes, it is such a pity..."

Upon hearing that, the guild masters immediately frowned but Moody Writer continued: "It turned out to be a complete scam! That guy never had anything good. He only came here to ask me to privately refine some potions for him! He thought that he could skip the queue of customers and immediately ask me, but I naturally kicked him out of the room as soon as I heard that!" 

"Really? Then may I ask where is that person? We did not see him leave the association yet," asked the guild master with a suspicious look. 

"How would I know? Maybe he used the opportunity that he was already in the association to ask others to refine products for him..." answered Moody Writer, displaying an innocent face.

The receptionist stood silently on the side not daring to speak. He was certain that the player he met earlier should still be there, but the room was empty. The couple was also full of doubts, but they could not simply intrude someone's room. They could only let go of the matter. The wife was naturally not very satisfied with the outcome; she discreetly sent some signs to her husband, but the latter completely ignored her.

"Sorry for disturbing you then. We will take our leave. Also, I would just mention that our offer is still pending," said the guild master as he dragged his wife through the corridors. The receptionist also quietly followed.

After walking a few meters away, the female alchemist looked at her husband and said,"Are we really letting go of this matter? This looks extremely fishy! That arrogant brat was lying!"

"I know but there is nothing we can do. We lack evidence and we cannot offend Moody Writer openly! He is highly looked after by the other guilds. It would be best not to push him towards joining one of the big guilds. It is just an item anyway. Although it's a bonus, it's not an absolute necessity. We can easily live without that. We are not far from leveling up anyway! I'll buy you something good when we get back!"

"Sigh, you are right. Let's focus on leveling our profession first! We will definitely succeed before the end of the week," said the female alchemist. Her expression instantly brightened as she heard that her husband would buy her a gift.

Hearing the end of the conversation, Li Wei quietly walked towards the exit. He was relieved to see that Moody Writer came up with an appropriate excuse. Although that guild already knew about him, he doubted they would try to make a move against him, especially since he belonged to the Fleeting Clouds Sect which was a more influential sect than theirs.

Having sorted that out, Li Wei went to the training center for his daily training. This time, he started with the [Ghost Blade] technique. It was the only one he did not develop the skill yet. In the short term, it was the best choice since obtaining the skill would give him a power spike.

The Ghost Blade training cycle was not very hard; it only required the user to quickly swing his blade in front of him at several angles. The only issue usually arises after a few minutes when the user's wrist would start to ache. While ignoring the pain, Li Wei continued to swing his sword according to the technique. His pace gradually got slower, but he eventually ended up with an 80% completion rate.

Following that, he trained his Gliding Steps before moving to the Myriad Sword Dance. He already had a high fatigue level and only trained into the latter since it could be stopped at any time. It was also his favorite technique to train. He would feel relaxed whenever he would swing his sword according to the technique.

He was slowly trying to adapt the technique to the dual sword style he used but did not meet any success so far. However, Li Wei did not give up and continued to train. He knew that modifying a technique was not easy. Fortunately, the skill he obtained, [Sword Storm Dance] could be used with the two blades at the same time.

His fatigue level quickly went up and Li Wei finally took a break as he reached a critical level. All he wanted to do now was to go back to the inn and take a good shower.

Li Wei was absent-mindedly walking through the entrance of the Starry Skies inn, the one he stayed at. He was about to walk upstairs when he suddenly heard a familiar voice from the side.

"Hey Seven!"

When he turned his head to look, he saw Bright Sun standing up from a table, walking towards him. At the table was another blonde woman who giggled at the sight before walking away.

"Hello," politely answered Li Wei. The blonde priest looked as beautiful as usual. She was wearing casual clothes which were more comfortable. Wearing a priest robe could be uncomfortable and get in the way of her cooking. What surprised Li Wei was that Bright Sun was actually level 14 just like him. While training into professions still provided some exp, it was normally at a much slower rate than hunting monsters.

"Come with me. I have something to give you," happily said Bright Sun as she pointed towards the private rooms.

"Sure." He quickly followed her to the private room. He already knew that she succeeded in becoming a Grade 1 Cook which explained her cheerful behaviour.

"Although I promised you a meal, I think that you will prefer this!" declared Bright Sun as the two entered a small private room. She quickly took out three small brown bags and placed them on the table. "I baked them myself! I hope you'll like them!" 

In truth, Li Wei already forgot about the matter that Bright Sun would give him a meal, but he quickly opened the bag only to find that they contained a bunch of Fortune Cookies.

As he grabbed one of the fortune cookies, Li Wei immediately saw the details. "200 exp!" exclaimed Li Wei in his mind.

Seeing his surprised expression, Bright Sun quickly said, "I knew you would like that, not only does it have a nice effect, I can also guarantee the taste!"

"But that is probably very expensive, isn't it? I have never seen any food that gives experience..."

It was not an uncommon practice for the players who focused on their profession and everyone turned a blind eye to that since they did not want to get to the bad side of the craftsmen.

Li Wei quickly grabbed a Fortune Cookie and broke it into two parts at the center. With a swift movement, he threw one half inside his mouth. He immediately started munching and the room was filled with the munching sound. The cookies were extremely crunchy and flavorful. It was a treat to Li Wei's mouth; the gentle and mild flavor of the Fortune Cookie slowly assaulted his taste buds in waves. The taste was not different from the usual cookies he ate before but this one had a little twist to it making it stand above the others. While he could not point out exactly what it was, Li Wei still found the Fortune Cookie extremely delicious.

Bright Sun was closely observing Li Wei as he was tasting the cookies. She was instantly relieved as she saw that Li Wei was enjoying the cookie. She was very confident in her cooking skills, but she was also always nervous whenever someone would eat her cooking.

"It's really good!" commented Li Wei as he threw the other half of the cookie in his mouth.

Bright Sun smiled, "Then eat the ones in these bags too but don't take them all at once."

"That is way too much! How much is there inside?" While Li Wei naturally wanted to get a lot of free exp, it would be impolite to eat so many fortune cookies by himself.

"This is my gift to you! To thank you for what you did! There are only 100 fortune cookies in there. Maybe that's not enough..." said Bright Sun.

"Ah no no, that is already too much!"

"Just eat! There's something I would like to ask!"
