When you spend too much time inside your own head, you get to know yourself better. However, what you think and what you feel gains strength. This wouldn't normally be something to worry about. But for Liam, this was a life-or-death problem. He was a lonely guy, so to speak, which meant that he spent a lot of time inside his mind, thinking and questioning himself more than an eighteen-year-old guy normally would. His mom had always been sure that his brain was different; it was special. He had what scientists call eidetic memory. The ability to recall an image in a brief period of time by seeing it only once. In summary, he was scientifically unable to forget. And this was the problem.
            You're emotionally attached to your memories through feelings. The more you remember about something, the stronger is the emotional bond you get with that event. And for someone who could remember even my credit card number by just seeing it with the corner of his eye once, you already can imagine how his feelings toward past relationships were. 
            From the girl who first held his hand in kindergarten to the one who took his virginity. He was able of recalling every single moment with all of them. And every single breakup too. That's how he became a lonely guy. His phone only ringed for three single reasons. To wake him up, to notify him about the newest book in the library or when his best and only friend texted him. And even though you can think that having only one friend is sad, to Liam this was more than enough. Alina was what you could call a sunshine tornado. She brought happiness wherever she went and was always encouraging Liam to get out of his comfort zone, despite she didn't get the same treatment from him. But positivity from friends wasn't something Alina actually cared that much about. Not as much as Liam, to be honest.
            So, there he was, standing next to a bookshelf arranging novels from the thriller section. The own smell from the environment brought a feeling of ancientness with a bit of calm, similar to that mix between paper and dust. Held between his hands, there was an expensive collector's edition of 11/22/63 by Stephen King. It was wrapped by a thin plastic coverage that meant the book was new. Each of its 849 pages had been just printed and had never been touched by any human's hand. This sort of virginity was something Liam found attractive in a book. He had never seen that in a girl. It was something he desired. Someone whose first love was him. He caught himself thinking about something that childish when he realized it was almost time to close the store. It was Wednesday, so he had to stay late cleaning the second floor and placing all the new stock that had just arrived. 
            The store wasn't that big but still was big for a bookstore. The entrance had a door made out of wood with small glass windows that allowed the outsiders to look at what was inside until something caught their attention. A small bell ringed every single time a customer entered or exited the store. It was a sound that Liam found particularly annoying since it meant that he would have to leave whatever book he was reading to help his customer to find the latest manga that we all know was already leaked online for free.
On the first floor of it, you could find all kinds of pocketbooks, comics, manga, and even magazines. It was what Liam liked to call The Adds Floor. Several shelves, posters, and advertisements were placed here and there, along with the cash register, which Liam hated to manage when he had to, despite it was impressively easy to him —which probably was why he thought it was boring—. This is the floor that people like you and I would normally visit, looking for the newest novel of our favorite writer, or for the last volume of some comic that we like. However, it wasn't the floor Liam liked the most; both because it was very visited and its content wasn't really constructive to him. 
All the surface of the first and the second floor was covered by a dark grey carpet, which was soft enough to mitigate the sounds of nearby footsteps. Deep inside the first floor, on the right side of the store, were these almost unnoticeable snail stairs, made of black iron that, mixed with the darkness of the area and the mahogany of the walls, seemed to be hidden in purpose. Next to them, there was a small sign that claimed:

            The second floor was Liam's sanctuary. Literally, nobody went there. The place was certainly nicer than the first floor. It was calm, silent —even for a bookstore— and had several seats and cozy couches where you could sit to enjoy your favorite books. White shelves with glass stands were the home of the most expensive novels from the store. A large balcony with a wood railing at the edge of it shined with the light that entered the room from the huge picture windows with a nice, gold, and gothic design on their border. When you first walked upstairs, your feet noticed a softer surface beneath them. The carpet from the second floor was less used, which was as soft as it used to be when it was new. On the left side, close to the railing, were three white leather poufs around a low glass table with several books over it —pocketbooks, obviously—. Deep inside it were thirteen shelves right next to the wood walls. Each of them full of hardcovered books organized by genre —apart from the classics, that were all on a gold shelve right in the middle—. One of those shelves hid the door to enter the employees' room —which was most of the time only visited by Liam since the rest of his coworkers didn't even know about its existence—. On the right side of the second floor, was a big circled glass table with 6 chairs around it. It was something that Liam liked to call Arthur's Table. Knights were never close to use it, though. It was something so expensive that just Liam had the owner's permission to study there after the store closed.
            In summary, it was nothing but a perfect and sacred literary space. Somewhere where you could read as much as you wanted because for sure you would never be bothered —or at least that's what Liam thought—. The only problem was that, to gain access to that floor —according to the rules that the old owner had established almost two decades ago— you had to buy at least one collector's edition of any book from their stock. The only condition was that it had to be a collector's edition; those were the most expensive books in the store, and clearly had fewer sales than the rest since just book maniacs or actual collectors bought them. This is why you can imagine how weird it was to see this smiley teenage girl with colorful clothes and curly pink hair walking upstairs.
            Alina wasn't exactly a book fan. However, her mother did was. She went there because she wanted a collector's edition of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen as a present for her mother. It wasn't an expensive gift, to be honest. Paying 50 bucks for a hardcover collector's edition was a very good deal for anybody. However, Liam didn't quite like Alina's choice when he first met her on that second floor. But he was obliged —by contract— to agree with everything she said about the book since the moment she walked inside the store. 
            —I'm looking for the collector's edition of Pride and Prejudice.
            —I see… —he replied with a sigh— You can find it in the classics section. It's that gold shelf over there.
            —What's wrong? —she asked.
            —Nothing. What do you mean?
            —You sighed at me. Why?
            —Don't mind me, I just didn't think you actually were a fan of Jane Austen.
            —Are you even allowed to use sarcasm with a client about a book that's selling in the store where you work?
            —Oh sorry, that's not what I meant.
            —No, no. Don't worry! —she said, almost laughing��. It's not for me, anyway. You're honest, I like that. The book is actually for my mother's birthday. I would normally just stay on the first floor looking for romance books or manga.
            —I hope you didn't get a bad first impression of the second floor. I tend to be the only one here —he said while putting the new collector's edition inside a plastic bag for her—, you can pay for it on the first floor. And this card allows you to stay on this floor as much as you want without needing to buy another collector's edition.
            —Thank you! And don't worry. It's the first time I found someone of my age inside a place like this. I'll make sure I visit this floor more often. I'm Alina, by the way. 
            —Nice to meet you, Alina. I'm Liam —he said with a short smile upon his face, repeating that new mantra that he promised himself to think about whenever he forgot that he had to avoid catching even the slightest feeling.
            —Nice to meet you too, Liam. I hope to see you around soon again.

After being heartbroken more times than your fingers can count, Liam finally gives up and starts thinking about a way to avoid falling in love again. The only problem, his girl best-friend won't make it easy for him.

The day before Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was to start the latest school year brought everyone's favorite mercenary janitor who was currently getting the Great Hall into shape. He moved back and forth while playing the theme from the 1966 Batman television show and humming a merry tune whilst dancing around. The mercenary gained some momentum when bobbing back and forth. He cracked his neck back, pumped the mop into the air, and swept it down across the ground. The mop splashed against the floor with Deadpool's actions continuing. He moved back with a wicked grin on his face.
"Da, da, da, mopping! Da, da, da, mopping! Da, da, da, mopping! Mopping! Mopping! Da, da, da, da, mopping!"
Deadpool swung around and waffled Argus Filch in the face when he came around the corner. Filch staggered back a few inches to feel the cleaning products burn into his face. Filch gargled a few seconds later when staggering back.
"What in the devil are you doing?" Filch demanded.
The mercenary bobbed his head and swept across the ground. He rocked to the music which had now since long stopped.
"I'm cleaning the room, and paying tribute the recently departed Adam West. QUICK, TO THE BAT CAVE, OLD CHUM!'
Filch really had no idea what this man was talking about. Deadpool started to bop up and down.
"We must fight as deputized agents of the law against the forces of grime and corrosion," Deadpool said. "There's a particularly nasty spot on the wall."
The main Hogwarts caretaker just swallowed the lump in his throat. "I don't see what you're so happy about. These little tyrants are about on their way to the Hogwarts Express. They're going to track all sorts of rubbish into the castle. And bring their little prank items where they end up blowing up half of the school."
Deadpool climbed on top of a stool and started to dust the wall. A loud cloud of dust rose up the wall and resulted in Deadpool coughing.
"Don't see why you haven't retired yet. I mean, after all of these years, you must have a pension coming to you."
Filch let out a loud "ha" and continued to escalate his loud belly laughter to the point of genuine absurdity.
"Oh, where the hell else do I have to go, anyway?" Filch asked. "My old man, he was a mean bastard. He told me that Muggles were less than animals. The moment I didn't get my letter, boom, I went out the street on my ass. Tossed out like rubbish I was."
"Wow, that's oddly tragic," Deadpool said.
"Yeah, well, the old bastard drunk himself to death, so I guess we're even, we are," Filch said. "Anyway, those two twin tyrants are returning this year. Guess their Mum doesn't want them underfoot. She's keeping the youngest Ginger male at home, and she's not letting the girl come either."
"Wait, the Weasley girl isn't coming?" Deadpool asked.
"Yeah, well if she's anything like her mother, she will be in a couple of years, if you know what I mean."
Deadpool did know what Filch meant and wondered if he had spent his time inhaling cleaning products. Still, the two youngest Weasleys would be attending Hogwarts and instead would be homeschooled. Deadpool could not put his finger on why this was going to be so interesting. Both Ginny Weasley not attending Hogwarts during this year in particular and Lucius Malfoy being in trouble, both felt like they caused shifts in the matrix.
"BOO!"
Peeves caused Deadpool to topple over from the stool he stood on. He landed into a pan of soap and cleaning products. Deadpool pulled himself up and started to slip and slide.
"Damn it, Peeves!" Deadpool snapped.
One of these days, one of these days, he was going to punch that Poltergeist all the way to the mood. Sure, Peeves saved him from the spirit of Voldemort. It didn't give him a right to abuse or to pelt balloons full of a substance of what Deadpool hoped was mayonnaise.
The newest batch of students had been sorted.
'You know something, I'm disappointed the Hogwarts school hat didn't rap like we suggested.'
'Yeah, maybe, but if the hat would have rapped, the author would have had to write the rap. And he's the whitest man who ever lived and he should not be writing a rap. How white is he? He's so white, he makes Casper look street.'
The Mercenary noticed something moving around the corner. He saw an eleven-year-old girl standing in the hallway. She dressed in the Hogwarts robes which was the most normal part of her. She had her hair clipped back with what appeared to be bread ties, and had a pair of goggles on her head. The girl stared across the hallway at Deadpool for a few seconds.
"You've been sent here to fix things," she commented calmly.
"What?" Deadpool asked.
"You've been sent here by a higher power to fix things," she repeated calmly.
"Who, Stan Lee?" Deadpool asked.
"No," she answered. "We are merely just players in a wider game. And someone has seen the past. Already, I see something has changed. Harry Potter is friends with several more people than he might have been had it not been for your intervention. There's a calm and a peace in Hogwarts which should not have been here. You are…they are here, in the air, aren't they?"
Deadpool found himself flummoxed by this peculiar blonde first-year student.
"Well, yeah, they're here, always here," Deadpool said. "I mean, look over there…well you can't really see them unless you really are able to open your mind."
"Oh, I believe I can open my mind a little bit," the blonde said.
The blonde stared at the fourth wall which Deadpool pointed at.
"But, perhaps they are shy," she said. "You say there are people there. There are people there, and people who are from the beyond. Or maybe they are in the beyond?"
Deadpool bobbed his head up and down. He did not know what to make of her still. She was one of the students sorted into Ravenclaw. Lady Rowena may have had her eccentrics in life, but this girl really embodied the more creative spirit of Rowena's legacy.
"They're always there. Some of them are watching. Some of them might be watching us without any pants. They are beyond the fourth wall. They are observers and to us, our life is fiction."
"I figured as much," the girl said with a smile. "Mother always said there were beings of a different plane watching us from beyond. They can watch our every move. They see us when we are terrified. They watch us when we are scared. They just watch us period."
"Right," Deadpool said.
"But, now that they know the game is afoot, they may try and silence you," she said. "Oh, and my name is Luna Lovegood. I'll be seeing you around, Mr. Wilson."
Luna turned her heel and walked into the shadows. Deadpool turned around from the corner and noticed a knife flying out of the corner. The knife rammed into the wall from behind him.
The mercenary rushed as fast as his legs could carry him to the other side of the wall. He checked out the hallway. He moved to the left, and to the right. He opened the door to the broom closet, saw two teenagers do what teenagers normally do in a broom closet.
The mysterious person who tossed the knife did not show his face. Or her face. Or it's face.
"Today is going to be big! I can feel it. They're all going to see how brilliant I am!"
Gilderoy Lockhart took a couple of steps forward and walked side by side with Deadpool. The celebrity smiled at the mercenary. Deadpool averted his eyes not to be blinded by the glare of Lockhart's teeth.
"So, wish me luck?" Lockhart asked.
"Go, break a leg," Deadpool said.
"Here, have a copy of my autobiography," Lockhart said. "It's ranked number one on the Witch Weekly's Best Selling List Books list over the past twenty-three weeks."
Lockhart autographed the book for Deadpool and put it in his hands. Deadpool took the book in his hand and flipped through the first few pages.
'Wow, this book would be more compelling if someone just masturbated all over the pages. Hell, I'm not sure if this book isn't Lockhart doing that. If this was number one, I'd really hate to see what number to was. Or there are a lot more bored housewives with disposable income.'
Deadpool walked over to a rubbish bin. He lifted the book and put it in the bin.
The bin spat up the copy of Lockhart's book and slammed it into the back of Deadpool's head. Deadpool staggered a couple of feet.
"Oh, a wise guy hey."
Deadpool tried to bin the book a second time. The bin coughed up the book and smacked him in the face. Deadpool staggered back and landed on the ground.
"And what are you up to now?"
Snape appeared at Deadpool's shoulder. Deadpool smiled and handed him a book.
"Happy Birthday, Severus! Sorry, I forgot to wrap it."
"First, it's not my birthday," Snape said. "And I already have a copy of Lockhart's bile, thank you very much. He insisted on giving the book to all of the staff members. I would hate to deprive you of the honor of having a couple of the book yourself."
Deadpool wondered how he could get rid of a copy of Lockhart's autobiography. It might damage his reputation.
The Mercenary decided drastic time came for drastic measures. He moved to the school bathroom. Deadpool stepped over the bathroom and opened up the stall. He threw the book into the toilet.
A loud scream echoed from the toilet and the book shot out of the toilet. A squat girl with glasses and an angry glare in her eyes burst out of the toilet. She burst into tears.
"I'm so sick and tired of everyone trying to flush Lockhart books down my toilet!" Moaning Myrtle howled at the top of his lungs.
Deadpool blasted through the door of the bathroom through the sheer voice of Myrtle's tears. The Mercenary tried to swim out of the loud puddle of tears. He could almost hear Filch screaming from several floors above as Deadpool tried to pull himself up out of the toilet water.
"Anyone want a slightly wet copy of Lockhart's autobiography!" Deadpool yelled.
All of the students who passed by ran in terror as Deadpool waved the copy of Gilderoy Lockhart's best-selling autobiography back and forth in the air. They wanted to get as far away from the book.
"Come on!" Deadpool yelled. "You want a free copy of one of the best-selling books in the entire history of magic! You have to pay five galleons for this book in the stories. I'm giving it away for free here?"
The students grumbled. They all had to read Lockhart's books for his class. They did not want to get saddled with reading his autobiography.
"Anyone want to have this book?" Deadpool asked. "Anyone! Anyone at all! I'll give you Ten Galleons! Twenty galleons! Thirty galleons!"
"We'll take it off your hands if you give us a hundred galleons."
Fred and George Weasley popped up with a pair of grins. The two twin terrors looked at Deadpool with a wide smile on their faces.
"What do you need with a hundred galleons?" Deadpool asked. He could not help, but be a bit suspicious in spite his eagerness to get this blasted book off of his hands.
"Well, we need it for product research," either Fred or George said. Deadpool didn't know, and he doubted the twins knew either.
"So, give us a hundred galleons and the password for the Slytherin common room and we'll take Lockhart's book off of your hands," the other twin said. "It would take care of Mum's Christmas present as well to get her a signed copy."
"Plus, it might buy us some credit when we don't become Prefects next year," the other twin said.
"Oh, you never know, I could put in the good word for you, and you might be surprised," Deadpool said.
The twins looked at Deadpool with mock sorrow at his threat. "Why do you hate us so much to get us the prefect position?"
"So, how about it mate?" a twin asked. "Give us a hundred galleons and the password for the Slytherin common room, and we'll take that book off your hands?"
Deadpool held the book in his hand and pondered.
"Give me a moment."
Deadpool stepped into the crowd and came face to face with Draco Malfoy. Crabbe and Goyle stood in front of Malfoy, their arms folded.
"Hey, Draco, remember those incriminating photos I took of you last year, that I said I was hanging on to for leverage."
"You better not have shown those to anyone!" The Malfoy heir snapped.
Given Deadpool tattooed the words "I Heart Muggles" on Malfoy's head when he was unconscious when snapping the picture, Malfoy remembered. He remembered the horrific time it spent and the nasty potion Snape had to use to remove the taboo tattoo.
Deadpool held out the envelope in front of Malfoy's face and beckoned him over. "Hey, relax….I'm willing to sell you those photos for a hundred and fifty galleons and the password of the Slytherin?"
Malfoy snapped his fingers and another one of the Malfoy family house elves appeared. Because why would they only have just Dobby? He held out a satchel and Malfoy rifled through it, putting some gold in Deadpool's hand. He jotted down the password to the Slytherin common rude.
"Pureblood?" Deadpool asked. "Why don't you change the house symbol from a snake to a swastika while you're at it?"
"Give me the pictures, Wilson," Malfoy said.
Deadpool put the envelope into Malfoy's hand. "I'm a man of my word, Malfoy."
That pompous prince bought the pictures back, but he did not bother to ask for the negatives, which Deadpool kept in his back pocket. Deadpool moved across the hallway to Fred and George and presented them with the money involved.
"It's been a pleasure doing business with you, sir."
They took the book, the Slytherin password, and the money off of his hands which lead Deadpool with a cool fifty galleons.
'Well, you're never a success in life if you don't make a profit.'
He stepped back and heard a loud scream. Hermione Granger rushed down the hallway and almost smacked headlong into Deadpool.
"Please, you need to help us! Professor Lockhart's class has gotten out of control!"
"He's forced you read his books?" Deadpool asked.
"Oh, his books are quite brilliant," Hermione gushed.
Deadpool did a double take at the supposed smart girl gushing over a complete charlatan.
'Girl, you supposed to be smart,' Deadpool though with a tragic shake of his head.
"There are freshly caught Cornish pixies in the school! And they are trashing the classroom and some of them might have escaped. We could really use a hand….and I figured going for a responsible adult is the best thing."
Deadpool cottoned on to her quickly. "And since you couldn't find one, you went for me."
Hermione nodded and Deadpool just allowed her to lead the way. He stepped back and pulled back a section of the wall to grab the package he smuggled into Hogwarts. A very high tech laser cannon came into picture with Hermione's eyes widening.
"Isn't that a bit dangerous?"
The Mercenary Janitor with a laser cannon just smiled. "Well, in the words of a certain cartoon duck, Let's Get Dangerous!"
He had pixies to stomp, and by no means did he mean the mutant either.

Wu Tian, was 19 years old when he ran away to Toronto, Canada. He originally lived in a secluded mountain, in the Ancient Wu Martial Arts Clan. When he lived in the clan, he was said to be a prodigy of martial arts never before seen in the world. Even those old martial artists who practiced for years were defeated under Wu Tian's hand. 

Even though many would love to be a martial arts prodigy and be admired by many others, Wu Tian never wanted this life. Wu Tian was always isolated by his elders, he was not even aware of smart technology until he was 15 years old traveling to another ancients clans place where he saw a person with a smartphone aggressively tapping on the screen and having annoyed and distraught faces. 

This was Wu Tian's first contact with his love for video games, later he slowly started sneaking technology by using the money his clan had given him for herbs and other items to help him advance his martial arts. Unfortunately, good things don't last forever as his mom found Wu Tian's stash of electronics. The elders were furious and wanted to send Wu Tian into seclusion but decided not to due to his achievements in martial arts and in the clan.

Wu Tian hated this life of seclusion in the mountains with only Martial Arts and stupid elders so he decided to run away, he also wanted to abandon martial arts, but Wu Tian soon realized the thing he wanted to run away from was not Martial Arts but his clan. The elders and his family who wanted to use him for their own gain, he never hated martial arts just the people who forced him to do it, not for himself but for them.

Wu Tian found his smartphone that was taken from him, stole a secret car that the clan held inside a warehouse, and used his leftover money, which he converted from Yuan to Dollars, to got to Canada and buy an apartment, he moved to Toronto, Canada and still had $100,000 left in his account.

The apartment was small, its living room and bedroom were mixed it already had an empty space, a T.V., and a couch/bed convertible. There was one bathroom, one kitchen with an oven, microwave, toaster, and other appliances, and a closet which had a washing machine, dryer, and space for food on one side and cleaning products on the other. Wu Tian was happy with the cheap apartment with all the basic necessities and decided to go buy what he has escaped his clan for, Video Games.   

Wu Tian went to the V4R store, a store near his house selling the best VR Pod products on the market. The V4R Company were the original creators of the VR Pods and all the newest games were built for the V4R Pod Platform. The VR Pods are machines that stimulate real actions into the game as if the person was really inside the game. 

Wu Tian walked inside the store and to the cashier, he then asked: "May I order the V4R Pod Version 5 preinstalled with Heavens Reach?"

Heavens Reach was the newest and best MMORPG VR game made by TechTitan Co., It was released 1 day ago and was virtually unmanned as production was done by humans, but a newly developed AI they called TITAN, removed any bugs from the game and kept balancing in check 24/7. This feature alone changed the gaming industry forever and made it the best selling game.

The employee looked at Wu Tian and said "Sorry sir, we have ran out of the version 5 and new stock will take a month to come, but if you get the Version 6 we can give you the game preinstalled for free and it will have a bonus when you start, so the graphics and speed are better and you get a headstart in the game."

Wu Tian contemplated, the Version 5 was $65,000 and the Version 6 was a whopping $85,000, he would only have $25,000 left, if he got the Version 5 he would have to wait a month meaning he would fall way behind everyone but he would save $10,000 but if he bought the Version 6, he would have to spend an extra $10,000 but he would get better graphics and speed for the future and a little help since he was already a day late than everyone else.  

Wu Tian decided to buy the Version 6, although he didn't regret buying it, his heart faltered when he checked his bank account go down to $25,000. But it wasn't a problem for now as rent was only $665 a month due to the small size of the apartment. 

Wu Tian used another $200 for installation to get some employees to come over and fix up the Pod in the empty space he had in his living room. It was 3:00 PM by the time everything got running. Wu Tian was super excited so he grabbed the headset and jumped into the pod. The pod door closed a voice sounded in the pod "V4R Pod Version 6 starting up, first-time login initializing, please look at the red dot to verify identity.

A red light shined through the top of the pod and scanned Wu Tian's retina. It then said "Scan successful, user Wu Tian, please select a username, this name is permanent and cannot be changed. Wu Tian thought for a while before saying "Martial Asura" This was a name he previously picked in the other games he had so he decided to stick to it. 

The system responded, "Username, Martial Asura, storing signature and retina scan, accepted loading Heavens Reach..."

Wu Tian felt like he was sucked into the game as the title screen showed him flying through the map and he felt joy, more joy than reaching completion level of a martial arts. He felt the joy of freedom.

The words on the screen said "Heavens Reach Arc 1: A New Beginning."

A 19-Year-Old prodigy named Wu Tian spent his first 19 years of life in a stuck up Ancient Martial Arts Clan and decided to run away. Why did he run away from home you ask? Well, its to play video games, watch as he becomes the most powerful gamer in the MMORPG, Heavens Reach.

"Have you bought one yet?"
Nobody could have expected what exactly would happen as a result of the above phrase becoming one of the most popular greetings among mages.
"Last night I had a dream in which my ancestor informed me that this time, it'll definitely be red-blue, red-purple, and black-white!"

Yep, this was a lottery system. Apart from a crazy archmage like me who was actually from another world, who else would think of starting a lottery system in a magical fantasy world in order to earn money?
As for this young mage who supposedly received a message from his ancestor in his dream, he was no different to those lottery addicts from my original world. He decided to spend his entire family's fortune on this one series of colors.
Of course, compared to my original world where, in China, the lottery system often had tricks involved and the lottery holders themselves often won their own lottery, I considered myself quite conscientious. I merely had my own people win only 30% of the total lottery rewards.
What? You think I'm immoral? Actually, I considered myself quite moral compared to many lottery officials.
Those who won prizes in my lottery didn't win only gold coins. After all, there were plenty of mages who were already quite rich. The winners happily rode their new red steeds and raced everywhere, causing certain collectors to even go into a mania trying to obtain one.
What was with the name of Red Lightning? Actually, they were just the same as Iron Horse #7, just with an outer layer of red paint and renamed #8…
What? Merely changing the color scheme and counting it as a limited-edition product seemed like a devious tactic…? Actually, I felt that I was quite moral! At the very least, I didn't start selling the Red Lightnings at a jacked-up price by simply claiming that they were limited editions. I was even kind enough to change the name!
Fine then, I supposed I was a devious no-good merchant, but was there such a thing as a successful merchant who wasn't devious and no-good? At the very least, I provided the mages with entertainment while I made money for myself. Plenty of people had fun.
And once certain things got started, they would be quite hard to stop, especially since the natives here were "honest" folk that had never known addictions. Once they got started, how would I possibly let them stop… After they took the bait, the prizes they won became the least important. The excitement and anticipation at revealing what prize they could get, just like people making random draws in a cell phone game, was what people became addicted to the most.
And this was just a beginning. They would soon become numb if I merely repeated the same type of stimulation over and over again. I needed to give them endless amounts of new things they could bet on.
"Who do you guys think will win this time? Jinya's Mega Apollo, or Manastorm's Maniac Gear 07?"
"I think the result will be the same as last time, with both of them exploding before they reach the finish line. Damn it, who could have guessed that there would be such a result last time? I bet on the goblins last time and lost so much money!"
"Hmph, that's because you all still don't know enough about engineers. Last time, I bet that neither the goblins nor the dwarves would reach the finish line. The first to cross the finish line would be the winner.
However, since the goblins and the dwarfs went overboard during the last race, becoming seriously angry with each other to the point of exploding both teams' race cars, many spectators were dissatisfied about how there was no victor at all in the end. So this time, another team volunteered to join in—the Blue Tower Iron Horse Squad. Although their equipment and speed were far behind the goblin and dwarf engineers' custom modified Iron Horses, as long as the goblin and dwarf race cars kept exploding and attacking each other on the way, the Iron Horse squad would naturally become the only victors in the end. And so, after news about this spread, people viewed the Iron Horse Squad as the most reliable one to bet on, but…
"How are the betting spreads looking like? What result will be the most profitable for us?"
"Fewest people are betting on the goblins as their race car is always exploding before reaching the end of the track. The most commonly bet-on team is the Blue Tower Iron Horse Squad. If they win, we'll be losing a huge amount of money with the current betting ratios."
"Okay, install the newest and most reliable engines in Jinya's race car, while secretly loosening the gears in Manastorm's race car. We're going to make the goblins into the victor of the next race. Right, is the new project ready yet?"
"Of course. 'Goblins vs. Dwarfs 2: Hot Air Balloon Airships vs. Combat Helicopters' will soon be available!"

In order to help increase the sales for the best and most expensive front-row seats to the competitions, I made the front-row tickets into a mini collection game which awarded a random card each time. If one collected a full set of cards, they would be able to exchange the cards for a free Iron Horse. Of course, there were two specific cards that I had less than ten copies printed, so this seemingly excellent way of receiving an Iron Horse for free by simply buying the most expensive tickets had only given out few Iron Horses so far.
"While there were a few mage organizations that objected to some activities, there were no mage organizations that are actually taking action against you. After all, we really lack good entertainment, which leaves everyone quite bored. Even those who didn't join in the betting can simply enjoy watching the competition. Oh, but there are many that hope that they can enter the competition themselves. However, they want to use their own steeds, such as phantom horses, hell travelers, and so on…"

"Don't you dare use your stinky shoes to kick a dwarf, and don't you dare kick a dwarf's mecha!"—Manastorm. The competition became absolutely boring to watch as there was no doubt who would win so we began to limit who could participate. We would publicly list all information about the race's participants beforehand.
"It doesn't matter who wins the race. Since we're the house, the house always wins."
Okay then, I admit that from a certain standpoint, this was indeed rather immoral of us as we were intentionally manipulating those who won the races. Since I was shameless enough to get the mages addicted to gambling in the first place, I no longer cared if I acted even more shamelessly. Their treasure troves wouldn't be in any way inferior to dragons' treasure troves, and since I was a mage as well, of course I would be attracted to the most by magical secrets. Of course, since my specialty was rather unconventional, this would attract some controversy.
"You want to make a trade with the 'Soul Demon Association' which is under the Sword of Order? They have an absolutely terrible reputation, and they're all undead mages. I didn't focus much on my soroundings and I was unable to notice that I was being filmed while some others were unlucky and caught with the lightning. Once the lightning stopped striking us , I had advanced to the second stage while the girl to the fourth. The magic must have triggered something which caused the tribulation.


I used flicker to get us on top of a roof . " Sorry about that , I didn't know it was gonna happen. " I apologised . She just looked down and blushed . " Thank you , may I have the honor of knowing your name ?" She asked. " Song Feng or Red Dragon emperor and you are ?" I asked. 

"  Sixteen" She said extending her hand to me. We shook hands before going different ways.

When I was nine, I finished reading all of my mother's works. That year, I came to realise how important I was in her heart. 

"That's because the female protagonists you write are always so brave and incredible! They're the best." I said when she found me hugging a romance novel she first published under a pen name. 

"Silly child. You're wrong. No matter how brave and incredible my characters are, they are only fictional. You are real. Remember. You are the bravest and most incredible person there is. To me, you are the best." My mother said as she began playing with my cheeks. 

When I was ten, I asked my mother if I could be the female protagonist in her next book. That year, my mother said she is retiring as an author to become an editor due to writers block.

"It's only for a little while. I'll write again soon." My mother comforted the crying me. 

"Really?" I asked.

"Really. I want to write the best book I can and have you read it first." She said with a sparkle of certainty in her eyes. 

On my 20th birthday, my mother published her newest work after a ten year hiatus. After being given a very special reading by the author herself, I realised why my mother took ten years to write this novel. 

"I want to read it." I said, surrounded by my family. 

"How about this, I'll read it to you. It's been a long time since I've told you a story." My mother pretended, not knowing I could see the obvious tear stain on her face. 

My mother then read it to me. She was by my side everyday, reading 'There Is Sweetness Within Bitterness, That Is Happiness'. When she couldn't read anymore, my father came. When he couldn't read, my brother came. Then on the last day, my mother finished the last page. 

But unfortunately. I was too tired to hear the ending.

“Lan’er. Didn’t you already read that?” Her mother asked, pointing to her newest novel in her hands. 

“That’s because the female protagonists you write are always so brave and incredible! They’re the best.” Huang Yue Lan proudly spoke.

Her mother reached towards her and lightly pinched her cheeks before shaking her head. “Silly child. You’re wrong. No matter how brave and incredible my characters are, they are only fictional. You are real. Remember. You are the bravest and most incredible person there is. To me, you are the best.”

Years later, surrounded by her family on her deathbed Yue Lan pointed at a book by her bedside. 

“Is that your newest book?” She asked softly. 

Her mother nodded and grabbed the book, ‘There Is Sweetness Within Bitterness, That Is Happiness’. 

“I want to read it.” She declared.

“How about this, I’ll read it to you. It’s been a long time since I’ve told you a story.” Her mother said with a forced smile. 

Yue Lan was too tired to argue so she simply nodded. She listened as her mother told her the story until the very end. Leaving with a smile on her face. 

In death, she received her second chance at life. In the world her mother created. In the world of ‘There Is Sweetness Within Bitterness, That Is Happiness’.

"I heard that this manga name is Naruto. The story is very interesting. It's talking about the ninja and they said the fighting scene is amusing. This is the first time I ever see such a book. I going to wait to buy one as well." He said and stand at the back of the line.

"Well, I'm have nothing to do anyway. I'm going to wait for awhile too." He shakes his head and go stand in the line too.

Some people buy the book because they're curious about the new type manga, some think the story is interesting and some want to buy the manga to make the reference. Anyway, the book is selling like the hot cake. Surprisily, there's a line in every bookstores. It causes such a huge commotion in intenet and the book is selling even more and more.

"Chief Editor, they're out of stock!"
"How many bookstores already?"
"All of them, sir."
"How many books have we sell so far?"

"We already print 1 millon books as the order but now they all sold out. Now we receive the call all over the places for an additional copy. We have not expected the sales to be this crazy. It's simple frightening."

"Ok print more copy. Call all staff to work overtime. Tell them that I'll give bonus later. And you make a call to the delivery company. Tell them to send the book to the places as fast as possible."

"First, we must not leak any information of the author. If other companies know about the person who write the book, they will use any mean necessary to take him away for sure.

Second, we have to make sure that he stays by our side. I want to increase his manga royalty and I want him to work full time in our company. If he wants, I even give him a share of our company. What do you think?"

"I understand that we have keep a secret about him but why do we have to invte him and even give him a share? We already make a contact."

"You are too naive. Do you think someone who can even write this new manga not able to make another one? And who do you think he sell his new work to? If by any chance, he decides sell it to another company, what do you think will happen?" Director Zang smirks and look at him like an idiot.

One after another all agree to his idea. Because they can imagine the situation is very dangerous as he say. 

If the situation develops as they think, the company will have a strong rival and they can't guaranty if they can win in the end. All they have in mind is "This person can change the world. He is too terrifying."

And back to our MC, he stays in his room and now he feels so excited while await his reward.

A man was standing there. Not a total stranger  she thought maybe he was renting the cabin across from hers. He had dark hair and dark eyes, and looked fit and well-muscled.
"Hi," she said.
"I was wondering if I could join you for lunch?" 
Immediately, her mind flashed back to another man, another lunch. That man had become her husband. She forced her thoughts back to the present.
"Umm. Really?" she said.
"Yes." He gestured around the restaurant. "We seem to be the only two people who aren't in families."
She looked around, actually seeing for the first time that other people were present  in her bleak state of mind, she had thought herself totally alone in the room. The tables were filled with parents and kids, chatting and talking and laughing. She felt a stab of pain at their joy.
"OK, sure." She pulled herself together and smiled at the man. "Please."
Eric sat down, his heart pounding hard.
She forced herself to be polite. "I'm Annabeth Wheeler." 
"Eric Neilson." He shook her hand, saw that she still wore her wedding ring. "It's so good to meet you."
More than you'll ever know.
"And you."
"So, Ms. Wheeler"
"Annabeth, please."
"Annabeth. Is this your first time at Open Skies?"
"Oh, no. I've been coming here for years. Yourself?"
"First time."
"And how are you finding it?"
I'm right across from your cabin, and now I've met you, so I love it so far.
"Great." Eric glanced up as the waiter approached. He asked for a smoked salmon salad and a glass of water. 
"Well, it is beautiful here." Annabeth looked at Eric and noticed how dark his eyes were  it surprised her that they were warm and full of humor. Normally, she found eyes that color cold and deep, like looking into a well, but Eric's black eyes sparkled with life and energy. She blinked as it occurred to her that he was a good-looking man, with that dark hair and those dark eyes and his muscled torso.
Now, why am I noticing that he's attractive?
"And what do you do, Annabeth?"
Yeah. That accent is sexy. Like molasses just dripping off those lips.
"I'm a writer," she said. "Actually, I'm here to finish my newest book. I always come to Open Skies to do my final edits and revisions I find it easier to focus when I'm away from everything."
Eric was fully aware, of course, that she was a writer. He also knew that she came here to work  that is, after all, why he had taken a month off and come out here. But he also knew that he'd come across as a crazy stalker if he told her that.
Time to play dumb, man.
"A writer, huh? What do you write?"
"Books, now. But I started on a blog."
Eric knew this  he had read every one of her posts. He also had her two books at home.
"So, you had a popular blog and you got a book deal out of it?"
"Yep, basically." She smiled. "I'm one of the lucky ones."
"Yeah, for sure." Careful now. Careful. "So, what do you write about? On your blog and in your books?"
"Grief."
Annabeth looked at Eric, fully expecting him to exhibit the usual reactions she got when she dropped that news on the table: shock, discomfort, pity. Averted eyes, an appointment that was suddenly remembered', folks shuffling around in their chair. Some people held her hand and wanted her to talk, others wanted to tell her about their own losses. She'd seen it all.
Eric gazed at her, those black eyes kind and open. He didn't seem like the kind of guy to flinch in the face of something unpleasant or uncomfortable, and that surprised her. "Grief? For who?"
"My husband." A stab of pain went through her as she said those two words. "My husband died almost three years ago  it will be three years ago in two days  and I started to write on the blog about my grief. I was writing for me, you know, just to express all the things that I was feeling and suddenly, I had followers. People started to comment, telling me about their own losses, sending me support on my down days." She shrugged. "And then out of nowhere came a book offer. Then another, and now this last one."
"And does it help?"
"What?"
"To write about grief  does it help you with yours?"
OK, time to give him the spiel. I know what people want to hear, and what kind of PR I'm selling. Catherine will be so proud.
"It does," she said, on auto-pilot and familiar terrain now. "I feel connected to others, and they help me as I help them. It's symbiotic, really. And I work through my own feelings of anger and abandonment really openly  it's somehow liberating to be so totally honest about grief. It's not really talked about, in many ways. It makes people uncomfortable. I try to change that."
Despite all the upbeat positivity, something about her words struck him as hollow, and her body language was all wrong her clear blue eyes were blank and her body was stiff. Eric wasn't totally convinced that she believed what she was even saying, and it gave him a sense of uneasiness. Odd, since her written words were so passionate and vulnerable and raw. Her writing was poignant and heartfelt, her spoken words were clinical and automatic. Maybe she was just someone who expressed themselves better in writing?
"Well, I'm very glad to hear that it helps," he said. "And I'm very sorry about your husband."
"Thank you."
Just then, Eric's lunch arrived.
"So, what do you do, Eric?"
He took a bite of salad. "I'm a gardener."
Her fork paused halfway to her mouth, taking in his arms and commanding presence. "A  gardener?"
Eric grinned. "I know, right? I mean, who's actually a gardener? But I am. A glorified gardener, really."
"So you take care of gardens? Like, for parks or museums or whatever?"
"Yes, ma'am. But not only. I also design them, and I own a supply store and a greenhouse. So I grow the plants, and also do some selling of basic products for people who have their own smaller gardens at home." 
"And where are you based?"
"Just outside Houston, Texas. Beautiful part of the state."
Ummm. He had a drawl that made her think of drinking Mimosas on a hot Texas night, the smell of sweet lavender in the air. She leaned back and surveyed him across the table. 
"That's fascinating," Annabeth said honestly. "Your job, I mean."
"It is? You like gardening?" he said.
"Oh, I know nothing about it, I'm afraid. But I like flowers and plants. I like gardens."
"Well, luckily most people do. Keeps my bills paid."
She laughed, and Eric saw how her whole face just changed opened up and lightened. It came to him that Annabeth was beautiful.
"And how long have you been a gardener?" she said.
"Just a few of years. I'm kind of new to the profession."
"And before that?"
"I was a cop."
Annabeth blinked at him. "That's quite a change in careers."
"It is."
"Can I ask how that happened? If it's not too personal, I mean."
"Sure you can ask. I was shot on the job, and it damn near killed me. After something like that, you kind of re-evaluate things in your life. I had never really wanted to be a cop  but my Dad had been and my Granddad too, and me and my older brother Ian both ended up as cops. Ian loves it, though, whereas for me it just kind of happened. So after I was shot, I was told that I'd never be able to go back to the force no doctor would ever clear me for duty again."
"Why? What kind of damage was so permanent?" Her eyes ran over his arms and chest. Eric was large and muscled and obviously in great shape.
He smiled. "My heart. I was shot in the chest, and it damaged my heart pretty badly. I recovered, with time, but no way I'd be able to work as a cop again."
"I'm sorry, Eric."
He waved his hand. "No, don't be. I took almost a year to get strong and well and kind of figure out what I wanted, and that's when I got into gardening as a profession. I'd always loved it and it was my weekend and holiday hobby, but I went ahead and took the plunge. Got a loan, started small, got a few clients. Built it up. I don't miss being a cop at all. I love what I'm doing now."
"So, in the end, it was all a blessing, right?"
"It was."
But the greatest blessing was your husband and you, and your gift to me. I was on that transplant list for six weeks, dying in a hospital bed that whole time, and the day I heard that a donor match had been found was like a rebirth. I was going to die a slow and painful death unless I got a new heart and you gave me your husband's. 
I can't thank you enough.
