"Yao Jia?! No way? Why is she calling me?" Zhao Yu thought he was hallucinating, and let the phone ring for a while before he picked up. He had thought that maybe Yao Jia had called because Hao Jiajun was pestering her again, but when Yao Jia started talking, it turned out that she was actually inviting Zhao Yu to lunch!
"No way!" Zhao Yu felt as if he had been blessed by the heavens. He never would have thought that his love interest from his previous life would willingly invite him to lunch! He was so excited he could not stop shaking, and it took a long time before he came back to reality. Once he got the address, Zhao Yu rushed toward a hot-pot shop on Dongyang Road.
The hot-pot shop was called Liuhe Village. It was a thirty-year-old shop. The store was a two-story building, almost antique! The walls were made of green bricks and jade, covered in marks that showed the building was clearly old. Due to the owner being loyal to using traditional style, Liuhe Village was very popular and was often full. Even at noon you needed reservation to get a seat.
When Zhao Yu arrived, Yao Jia had already been waiting for a while outside the shop. Private rooms required more than six people, so with only two, they could only sit outside.
"Sorry, Officer Zhao!" Seeing the crowded environment, Yao Jia was embarrassed, "This is my first time inviting you to lunch, but I picked a place like this! I’m truly embarrassed!"

"You!" The red-faced man had never seen someone so abrasive, but he could not get mad over that one sentence, so he turned around and continued to eat his own hot-pot.
"Officer Zhao!" Yao Jia looked at Zhao Yu a little angrily, "He didn’t mean any harm, why are you so aggressive?"
"Ah, don’t say it like that!" Zhao Yu feigned innocence, "What am I? You see that guy, eating hot-pot by himself, and with his face so red! As soon as he heard a beauty talk, he decided to take advantage! He isn’t a good person! Miss Yao Jia, you’re so beautiful, so you have to be more careful!"

But the hot-pot shop’s location and where the slaughter case had happened were too far away to have any connection. Not to mention, his hexagram did not have "Gen," which represented work. So maybe it would be better if he just settled down and ate a good meal with Yao Jia, and did not overthink.
"Officer Zhao!" Yao Jia interrupted Zhao Yu’s thoughts, "Actually, I should’ve invited you out already! Last time, if you hadn’t gotten my bag back, I would’ve lost so much! Also, that time at the hospital, if it weren’t for you, I don’t even know what would’ve happened with Hao Jiajun!"

We locked eyes; mine widening in surprise, his narrowing in mockery. A smirk began to play on his lips, disconcerting me further. The room exploded in silver color as a dark energy escaped his taunting visage and my newly tested powers came into effect. Time slowed significantly, effectively turning Adriana and Bishop into unresponsive statues. 
"That bitch left the poor little lamb for slaughter. Poor little lamb shouldn't have fought her. Now your fate is sealed. Because you're vulnerable and without shield. Hahahahaha." The 'doctor' said in a song like, creepy shill voice before he continued to laugh.
My fatigue was pushed back, and vigilance returned to me, giving me back enough awareness to rediscover my frustrations. 
"Mate. Fuck you, the mother that birthed you, the father that fucked her. Fuck your ancestors, your home, town, city, country, continent, planet, solar system, galaxy, and Universe. Fuck all your pets, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances. Fuck your wife. Fuck the car you drove here in. Fuck the clothes your wearing. And finally, … Go fuck yourself."

His laughter halted; surprise sketched on his face. But slowly, it was replaced with realization, his smile re-growing.
"Poor little lamb is ignorant. Doesn't recognize death is imminent."
"Oh yeah. And fuck your voice too."
"I guess I must play with my food. To show I've been misconstrued. Don't worry, I like to play. And I'd really wanna see your dismay."
What happened next, I don't recall entirely. I will do my best to describe what I remember and to keep to its chronology.
He didn't dilly dally after he finished speaking/singing, moving straight for my throat with his outreached right hand. He was slower than I thought he'd be, and I had more than enough time to incline diagonally down and to the left, letting his empty hand flash by my face. Going with the flow, I leaned back my right shoulder and swung my right fist towards his face with a counter, keeping his right arm between my own right arm and my head. It connected.
Then something I wasn't ready for occurred. While the doctors body simply went down to its knees, a phantom body was thrown out of its back, quickly disappearing behind a wall. I stared behind it, finding the whole situation incredulous.
Abruptly, while lost in thought, and still staring at the wall it disappeared through, the phantom re-entered the room on my right and quickly submerging itself into the body before I could react. Moving too quickly, I couldn't distinguish the phantoms features, only discerning the opaque tint and humanoid shape it had.
Impatient with its objective, the phantom, now back inside the body, kip upped and instantly threw a simple punch, again going for my throat. Leaning back, the punch sailing over my face and I made to jump back for some distance.
Much of the rest of the confrontation, suffice to say, was more of the same. He would throw simple punches that I would evade and counter, displacing the ethereal being from the doctor's physical body. I reckoned it would be safe to assume that the phantom and doctor were separate beings. Would have been rather farfetched to assume it had infiltrated the hospital under an alias or pseudonym.
There were no flashy lights, complicated maneuvers or detailed planning involved in his fighting style. That was the good news. The bastard having what seemed like near infinite stamina and immunity to tangible forces was the bad.
Just like last time, my sense of time was becoming effected, feeling as though hours had passed. At one point, I remembered the black flames I was able to use. It got me out of my last predicament and so I began to try and actively bring it forth. That turned out to be easier than I expected, only requiring me to exert force on a muscle that, although was new to me, was becoming more familiar by the second.
My hands both held the black flames as the smaller pieces converged to the center of my palm. The phantom phased through the wall behind me, heading straight for the doctor's body, which was also behind me. That was on purpose. I couldn't let him see the flames just in case he would become apprehensive about them. Fuck that. if I had anything to say about it, this guy was dead. Tonight.
Still using the simplistic approach it had thus far adopted, it rushed at by back, right hand reaching for me. Moments before the hand connected to the back of my neck, I dropped, twisted, and pushed out my arms simultaneously, hitting the doctor's abdomen solidly.
This time, when it flew from the doctors back, it was accompanied by my flames and a high-pitched scream that caused the windows to chatter. Before it even reached the wall, the phantom was reduced to nothing, consumed by my flames.
Immediately following the phantoms disappearance, time began to revert to its usual speed. Taking advantage of the transition, before time returned entirely, I whirled through the room, replacing all that was moved to the best of my memory and carrying the doctor back to where he stood before retaking my seat.
What followed was predictable and happened outside by awareness. The doctor, falling as soon as time resumed, simply looked to Adriana and Bishop as though he fainted. They called a doctor for the doctor and rescheduled their appointment for the next morning having found the hospital unable to find a cover for the doctor who was already a cover.
I on the other hand, slept. Right where I sat. Until they came to get me after dealing with the hospital's bureaucrats. By that time, my body felt like it was able to recover, although only slightly, from the additional stress it had recently experienced.
We walked down the depressing halls of the hospital towards the back exit, where Bishop parked, when I excused myself and went to the reception again to check on the mysterious girl. I wasn't leaving till I got some answers.
Just as I walked down the stairs, I saw Charmaine coming into the hospital with an elderly woman who, given had rather similar featured to Charmaine, I determined was a family member. I ducked as quickly as possible, knowing that I didn't want to add that to today's to-do list.
You see, Charmaine was a crush of mine. Well, more of an intense curiosity that has vaguely transformed to attraction. She was the only person whose countenance matched her behavior and speech. You see, I've never caught her lying, having malicious intent or mischievous inclinations. That was rare. Even Adriana and Bishop occasionally had those.
Charmaine and her family member took a lot longer than I thought for them to find their direction and move on, but I didn't mind as I used it as an opportunity to rest.
Walking down the stairs got harder every step I took, my brief rests being used up quickly. And although I could scarcely handle the motivation needed for my actions, my resolve still pushed me to find answers. Today was just a cacophony of fuckeries.

Yomi nodded as she turned her back to leave, only to be stopped by a small hand holding on to her cloak. 

A small smile climbed onto her face as he let go and she advanced alone.

I guess her instincts are right, she has every reason to be wary of me then. Arthur smiled more, it's not every day that he met a woman like her. 

Someone who clearly hates him. It's very rare, well, this never happened to Arthur before.  

"You have every right to be wary of me," Arthur whispered. It's only the two of them in the elevator, and for Xiu Ling, it's moving too slow. He moved closer to her. Xiu Ling shivered, it felt like a wolf is eyeing her and she's the lamb for slaughter. 

"What do you want? Stay right there!" Xiu Ling pointed at Arthur. She stood straight and puffed her chest out. She's trying to intimidate him, but Arthur laughs. 

"You're like...a rabbit ready to be eaten," Arthur moved a bit closer. 

Xiu Ling gasps, "I'm right about you! Ah! You're a crazy bastard!" 

Arthur chuckles. "Am I now? I don't think so. I'm a simple man doing what I can do." 

"You! Stay away from my cousin. She's pure and you- you have bad intentions," Xiu Ling announces. They stare at each other, there eyes throwing daggers as if it can kill them. "You're a carnivore." 

"Yes, and I plan to eat you," Arthur whispered seductively. A devilish glint appeared in his eyes. Xiu Ling is fascinating. 

Suddenly, the elevator quaked, and the lights blink. Then, the elevator stopped working, the lights shut down. 

"What's happening? Is anyone there?" Xiu Ling shouted. She's scared of the dark and enclosed spaces. "Help! What's happening! Is this a terrorist attack? A kidnapping? I have lots of money, get me out of here!" 

Xiu Ling pounded the elevator hysterically. She almost collapsed on the ground, her voice becoming smaller. 

"Stop that," Arthur said. The darkness is slowly creeping on him. It feels like something is trying to capture him. He's breaking out in cold sweat. His back wet and hands are clammy. Places like this are his nemesis. 

He's having difficulty breathing. 

"Shut up! How can you be so calm? We're stuck here, and we don't know when they'll let us out," Xiu Ling stated, her voice shaking. She felt like fainting because she's so scared. 

"Does being hysterical help us? You?" Arthur asked. He's barely holding on to his consciousness. Arthur knows that he can't fall here. If he does... he can't imagine the disaster that will follow. 

"Bastard, this is all your fault!" Xiu Ling snapped at him, then, the elevator shook again. "Ah...ah!" 

Xiu Ling moved fast and hangs to Arthur like a Koala. Her hands on his neck and her legs around his waist. "I'm so scared." 

Arthur's body turned stiff, and his body slowly sliding to the floor. 

"Weh! What's wrong?" Xiu Ling asked and tried to talk to him. "Why are you cold? Why are you wet? Hey! Hey!" 

They have fallen to the floor, and Xiu Ling is on top of Arthur. She picked up her phone, and there's still no fucking signal. She pointed it on Arthur's face. 

"Oh, my God! Don't die on me! Don't you dare!"

One cough. A simple sound from a stranger but conveys such a deep profound that enough for me to wish the ground to swallow me whole.

"Ahem!"

Then another one unnatural cough coming from another stranger. A little bit louder and longer than the previous one from behind me.  And like a fool I standing there stupefied. 
Then everything becomes dark. Accompanied by an intoxicated male fragrance that I become familiar with yesterday.

If only what I wished become true. Fainted on the spot and taken away from the reality of hell. That's what shoujo manga usually took place when the heroine was caught in deep depression or in shock situation.

Of course ' if only...' is wishful thinking. The outcome will never be as wonderful as I wish. I am not tender heart graceful heroin. Far from it. I am too healthy and too hard to get sick. I am grateful to God for giving me a very healthy body but the ungrateful side of mine wishing my body to breakdown right now so I can perform a fainted scene that I longing for.
  
My imagination wish scene shattered into a thousand pieces when a male voice resounding outside the darkness.

"Open your eyes, stay close and watch your steps."

I try bracing my self to open my heavy eyelids, the darkness no longer blinded my eyes. But my sight coverage, of course, limited with the coat hiding my head and half upper body. I didn't remove Alex's coat that still draped over my head. A bit heavy but " comfort" me nonetheless. I feel 'safer" from the eyes that might still be watching me since that mishaps. My cowardice self really does prefers that way.

This time, I am grateful for Alex, to be the one rescue me, the damsel in distress despite he might still struggling with himself from literally wringing my neck. And maybe he can read my mind since he grabs my hand and like a lamb into the slaughter, I dutifully follow him from behind.

Okay. Let's rewind seven minutes prior to this situation...the longest seven minutes I want to erase from my life history.

I was too deep in my thought and walking straight without noticing I have already bypassed the area of claiming baggage. But that's not the worst part. Because rather than toward exit, I nonchalantly walk into the male washroom. I repeated, M.AL.E washroom!! 

There is no excuse of scene where I can acting ["Oh, sorry my mistake. Since it just sides to side" while putting my hand on my chest and laughing awkward by anyone who facing me]. 

It was three. T.H.R.E.E. I tell you, its three meters apart from the female washroom! And there is a  guy who just finished his "business" walk out and didn't notice I am standing in front of him when he trying zipping his pants!

Please kill me now!

If Alex didn't jerk my hand at this crucial moment, my innocent eyes might unintended fall into the direction where the zipping sound comes from. I guess Alex notice that my mind already disconnected from my body due to shock. 

But the seconds' cough from the guys who came out from the washroom, wakes me from my stupor. And I watch dumbly Alex removes his coat with a very frightening expression. Is he going to hit me into a bloody mess and don't want to taint his coat with my blood? I closed my eyes instantly try not to think too much my "later" scene from domestic violence. But instead of pain, I feel my head feels heavy like a wet blanket been draped over my head.

Between love and duty, which is one a person should choose when it comes to marriage?

But in my story, it's a little bit of both when I enter this new phase of life.
What is the result?  AWKWARD. Yup. Even the big capital letters can't sum up my feelings.

Because it mixes with guilt, making me feel wrong, tense and a little bit giddy when facing my borrowed new handsome husband.

And why is that? It because the groom ended up marrying the bridesmaid when my big sister, the bride, went missing on the day of the wedding ceremony!

"Princess, you really must not hit glass. You have put yourself through a lot tonight." Kan warned her, leaning against the wall nearby. His eyes coolly observed her from head to toe. It was as though he was reading her soul from the outside. 

"Kan… I can not do this right now." Kyera whispered wiping her eyes carefully. The mask was having a hard time concealing the pain. Anymore pressure and she was sure it would shatter. 

"You can, and you will, Kyera. Or at least the Princess of the Forest Knights could. I don't know about her frilly, masked counterpart." He replied carefully. "Granted, one I would mourn, the other I could do without." He added meeting her eyes meaningfully. "And judging by that sparkly bleeding hand, you could too." He took her hand in his and picked the glass off her knuckle, and even pulled slivers out. 

"I hit the glass because I am angry." Kyera replied; not even wincing at the pain as he cleared the wounds. 

"Why and don't give me that crap about being angry with Verone. If that was the truth you would be hunting him. Not standing here." Kan warned her, as he swapped to the other hand looking for damage. Once he was sure both hands were glass free, he let go. 

"I am angry at myself, okay? I am not carrying a sword, I am in a dress that doesn't allow me to move easily and I had to fight a man who could nearly take me in full fighting gear. I tripped over my dress, Kan." She growled in anger. She had to ball her hands into a fist not to claw at the dress. 

"Their corsets don't allow enough room for you to change. When bound so tightly and in so many layers you become helpless. Your angry because you were helpless." Kan accused her watching her face carefully.

"I wasn't helpless. I had a dagger." She reminded him and he snorted. 

"And he had a set of teeth and two claws that he is more Accustomed to using than you fighting with a dagger, Princess." He sneered honestly a bit angry. 

"Oh? And why is this suddenly your concern? Why does it seem your just as worked up as I am?" She demanded her eyes searching his. 

"Because, Kyera, you could have died. Not as a Princess, not as a warrior but like a lamb to slaughter. How could I ever face our ancestors and answer for letting you die?" He demanded shaking his head. 

"Our ancestors?" Asked a female voice from several feet away. "Kan what are you talking about?" Akira demanded as she walked out from the shadow of an archway. Kyera turned on her and growled. 

"Akira I will rip this dress and tear you to shreds if you do not GET OUT OF HERE." Kuera growled. Every inch of her was itching for a fight and her mother's appearance didn't help at all.

He rubbed his eyes and in the next second it wasn't there anymore. Sighing, he was hallucinating again ... Must be the drugs he had to transport over that got into his system.

"Quit mumblin' to yourself, Get your ass on the truck." A harsh whack hit his back, shoving him forcefully back into reality.

"Yes Boss." He answered quickly, pushing himself off his seat from the computer desk and facing his Boss, who pointed at him.

"If you fuck up this time, I'm going to have three bullets in your body at the end of the night and toss you into the alley before the damn cops can get ya. You understand me?"

"Yes Boss." Compliant and submissive was the way to go for just simple thugs like himself to satisfy their Bosses.

Once his boss left the room, his 'co-workers' smiled sardonically and sarcastically offering their 'help' to a junior. 

He was dumb the first time believing them, he wasn't going to be taken for a fool the second time.

Walking throughout the dark and grimy warehouse made him realise how low he's gotten in his life but he was already in too deep to step out unscathed.

He was just going to suck it up and try to live day by day.

"Ay Dumbass, Pay attention." He turned his head, looking over at a skinny tattooed bald guy.

His name was or rather his nickname was Slither, due to the extending snake tattoo that went from the back of his head all the way down his spine.

Slither had treated him well, even offering a warning that he shouldn't trust anyone that works within the ringer they are in. Then again, Slither was known to screw with people he believes will be threats to his 'promotion'.

"Yeah?"

"Boss is going to skin your hide if you don't catch up, take that truck and drive it over to 55th Der's Cove. There should be a group waiting to pick up the stuff." Slither pointed over at the truck filled with loot and threw the keys for it at him.

"What should they look like?" Catching the keys, he looked on it to see the sign of the group.

"They will be waiting with cops outfits. You don't need to be the mule this time, they got it covered."

"Got it." He nodded his head, obedient once more.

"Now get on there and don't screw it up." Slither waved his hand, as he walked over to another group of workers and immediately began to yell at them to move their asses.

He already jumped inside the truck, securing the back of it to ensure that nothing spills before moving along to the front and putting the keys into the ignition, starting it up.

The doors to the warehouse open and he drove off, no thoughts that this would be the last time he does.

Seeing the fool take off without a clue, Slither had a menacing smirk on his face as he stalked over towards his Boss's office and knocked on the door.

"Come in."

Slither opened the door and stood at attention, watching his boss carefully.

"What is it."

"The Lamb is off to the slaughter house."

Living a second lifetime seemed impossible to our host, his life ending with three bullets in a single night of the usual crime ring.

Gaining the Aoide System the night he died in his first lifetime made him vow to get his act together and work his ass off for his dreams.
