This book's creation was for the purpose of proofreading and critiquing other people's novels on Webnovel.com

Through this book, I'll be indirectly showcasing several books as I go in-depth with each chapter pointing out any inconsistencies, basic spelling/grammar errors and typos, and anything that doesn't make sense.

I already predict that the comment section will probably get filled with active discussion over these books.

Note, if you came here for a novel, tough luck. There is no novel, this is only for editing/proofreading/revisions/critique. Though if you were looking for something to read and some of these reviews were worth it, then good for you. :D

Hazel presented her drawing to Billy a bit shyly when they met up at the same tree as the night before. His eyes widened a bit. 
"Is this for me?"
She nodded, blushing slightly. She hadn't smiled since losing her parents but after meeting Billy she had blushed more than once. It was as if he was bringing back some of the emotions she thought were lost. Over the past three years she had been little more than an empty shell. 
He examined it closely. "You actually shaded this really nicely considering you only had a cheap 24 pack of crayons. It was really smart using different colors for individual strands of fur so they all blend together. How old are you?"
Hazel held up seven fingers. 
Billy whistled, as if impressed. "I've never met a seven year old who can draw like this. You should be an artist when you grow up."
Her blush grew worse and she buried her face in her hands briefly before daring to peek through her fingers at him. He was smiling with all of those missing teeth. 
Finally composing herself, she took the drawing back and flipped it over so he could read it. She was slightly startled when he let out a snort. 
"Sorry," Billy said between snickers. "I know you tried really hard. That's really not bad for trying to write something like this for the first time. My name actually has two L's in it, not one."
It would be really nice if the ground could swallow her up about now. Hazel's face returned to her hands in shame. She didn't come out of hiding until a gentle hand mussed her hair. 
Her heart hammered in her chest. Nobody had messed up her hair since before her dad died. He used to do it all the time when he was teasing her. 
"I think I should teach you –ing words today," Billy said as he gently smoothed her messy hair back into place. "Let's get going."
He taught her basic –ing words, but also a few that change a bit such as how "lie" becomes "lying." Then he switched over to words ending in –ed and some exceptions like how "run" becomes "ran." 
Hazel's head hurt a bit trying to take it all in but at the same time she was thrilled. Billy was a surprisingly good teacher. Her time with him passed way too quickly. 
The two of them snuck out and met up every night for a week before Billy suddenly didn't show up one day. She was terribly worried about him. He didn't show up for the next three days either. 
Hazel was so stressed out about what might have happened that she could barely bring herself to eat or sleep at all. To keep from going insane, she practiced mentally sounding out and writing as many words as she possibly could, even ones Billy hadn't taught her. 
So when he finally did show up again she angrily pulled out her pink crayon and a piece of paper and scrawled, 'where were you?'
He simply shrugged. "Isolation." 
For four days?! The longest she had ever heard of someone being locked in there was two!
Hazel returned to her paper and held it up. 'What did you do?'
His topaz eyes gleamed in the darkness. "I beat somebody up."
And that was really enough to end up in isolation for four entire days? There had to be more to the story. 
'Who? Why?' 
Billy had taught her all of the Five W's the other day. Who, what, when, where, and why. She wanted to ask more but lacked the spelling skills. It still got her point across. 
He crossed his arms over his chest and actually looked angry. His scowl deepened before he spoke. "Some idiot was talking bad about you after coming back from yard time. It made me mad."
Her eyes widened in surprise. She was pretty sure who he was talking about. Some boy she didn't know kept asking her questions and when she couldn't answer them, he chucked a ball at her stomach when none of the adults were looking. 
It hurt but she couldn't exactly say anything about it. Not one person ratted the boy out to the orderly on duty so Hazel had to suffer in silence. 
But why hadn't Billy been at yard time himself? She didn't have the right grammar or spelling for this but… 
'Why you not go to yard tim?'
"I'm not allowed. I'm dangerous, remember?" He said it with his usual grin so it didn't seem at all sinister. "And time is spelled with an E at the end. We should go over those kinds of words today."
So they did, without further ado. Hazel's curiosity about the incident that resulted in four days in isolation didn't really die down but her desire to learn more was stronger. Besides, it didn't really matter. That boy had hurt her first. Billy was only defending her. 
Truthfully, it felt a bit nice being looked after. She didn't care that those bad nurses and doctors thought he was dangerous. Billy was the nicest person she had met in a long time.

Nearly a year passed and their pattern continued. Most nights, they met up by the same tree and Billy taught her as many words as he knew, sentence structure, and basic grammar rules. After the first few months they were able to converse almost normally, despite occasional spelling difficulties, so they ended up talking instead of teaching. 
Hazel asked him at one point how he knew so much since he had been in this place almost as long as she had.
He smiled a bit wistfully. "I was in second grade when I was brought here but I was already at a sixth grade reading level. I miss books. I haven't read a single one since they locked me up."
'I can buy you books someday if I become an artist' she scribbled down. She wanted to do something nice for him after everything he had done for her.

“I’ll marry anyone who will take me!” Hazel declared loudly. “I don’t need love!”

“Get down!” Will hissed. “You don’t know what kind of people are lurking around in here! Talking like that might get you killed!”

Hazel Dixon thought she was putting her troubled past behind her. But when the person she thought she trusted most betrays her, she loses her head and proposes to an entire bar full of strangers. 

Enter Will Sheffield, a charming stranger who decides to take her up on her offer to save her from herself.

Some argue that various works by authors that do not meet the requirement of fine grammar and spelling are rubbish. Here, each person has his own opinion, and let him stick to it and impose his opinion on others as the ultimate truth, it speaks only of ignorance of life. It is diverse.

Is the work of authors with poor grammar garbage? In my opinion, no. Each author tells his story, passed through his worldview, attitude, understanding of life, his experience and thoughts about the world. It's always interesting for me to read this personally.

I'm a bibliophile, I read a lot of classic works of art, Tomass and Gernih Mana, Feuchtwanger, Mark Twain, Stvenson, Romain Roland, Galsworthy, Tolstoy and all his volumes and there are about 19 of them! I didn't read Dostoevsky, I didn't like him. But Azek Azimov, Ursuda Le Guin, Tolkien, Kipling, Conandoyle, Louis Besenar and others I read with pleasure. Li Bo, the poetry is gorgeous. Novels of feudal and late feudal China, Japan, Korea. Novels and novels by Chinese prose writers of the early 20s and 80-90s of the 20th century.

In general, I read about 10,000 books. Fiction, fantasy, poetry, historical novels, ballads, myths and legends.

After that I became interested in reading historical documentaries - about the history of the Silk Road, Archeology, History, Ethnography, Etymology, the Big Game, the story of the confrontation of imperial intelligence in the vast regions of the Silk Road.

I read about 550 books, from the 16th to the beginning of the 21st century.

I have some kind of base for evaluating short stories and novels.

Sometimes works written flawlessly in terms of grammar, alas ... they are completely devoid of meaning, they are not interesting, they do not have fascinating stories, conclusions, experience, thoughts. But work with poor grammar, on the contrary, have unique information. Of course, not all works, but there are some.

Therefore, when assessing the creativity of another person, the author, being so categorical in evaluations, says only that you have a maximalist who still knows life poorly. This is the right of choice, each person, and to impose a choice on another according to my preferences, I consider this not comme il faut. Well, here everyone has a point of view.

In fact, this is an eternal question - what is more important? Beautiful text form or good content? Bestsellers are those works that combine good text and good content.

I am the author myself. But not a professional writer, but a techie. I don't know much about composition, about the intricacies of writing good text. But I have a very interesting content. Is my story garbage? I do not think so? Do I respect the reader? Sure. But writing is better so far I can't. Nevertheless, I have my own circle - readers who are interested in my work. There are not hundreds or thousands of people, but a couple of dozen will be typed.

I write in the genre - a documentary historical fiction, there are many interesting facts about the Silk Road with which I wanted to share. If I were waiting for the moment when I could write well in terms of English grammar ... I would not be able to share it now ... maybe in a couple of years ... and still I would not be able to write like this they write - people from English-speaking countries. This is a favorite topic of native speakers to reproach those who learn this language in their ignorance of the intricacies of the language they learn, grammar and spelling errors ... As we say, the dog barks, the caravan goes on. That happens.

English is the world language of communication. Moreover, for me it is the third language. I speak English well, but my grammar is lame. I admit it. Yes, I need to teach her, but I don't think I can write in perfect English.

The overall result - write as you can, share your thoughts, in the era of information, the content itself is important and not its form. One way or another, it can help others, they can come to a new thought and write a story about your topic that you would like to read yourself!

"Dong-in, are you there?" A voice rang out from outside the door, and Dong-in trembled in fear, like a criminal caught on the scene.

"It's me, Ki-Woong. Can I come in?"

Dong-in considered his options. He didn't really want to see anyone, let alone talk, but he knew that alienating Ki-woong wouldn't do him any good. So, he opened the door. Ki-woong was standing there, hands in his pockets, looking at Dong-in with mixed emotions.

Ki-woong was a freshman in high school. Standing at over 180 centimeters tall, he was well-built and had a knack for athletics, so much so that if his high school had had a sports club, they would have tripped over their feet trying to recruit him. Still, it so happened that Ki-woong's high school was a liberal arts school and didn't provide a sports club. They had a basketball and soccer teams, but they were only there as a sort of recreational activity rather than actual, competing teams. But even if the school did have a sports club, it was highly unlikely that Ki-woong would have joined. Ki-woong simply didn't have the time to invest in a sports club, and more importantly, he knew that in order to fulfill his goal of obtaining a stable job and becoming independent, he had to focus on his studies. And focus he did, as he always achieved high scores and grades and was among the highest ranked in his whole school.

Dong-in and Ki-woong had known each other from back when Dong-in was in elementary school, which was almost five years ago. At this point, Ki-woong was like an older brother to him, a real older brother, smart and kind and caring. He often helped Dong-in with his homework, and sometimes gave him advice when he had issues. They also frequently went out of the institute together. Ki-woong was perhaps the only person Dong-in felt was truly "on his side."

"Dong-in," Ki-woong began. His voice was as kind and gentle as ever, and as soon as he heard it, Dong-in choked back tears. "Did something happen?"

Ki-woong didn't ask why Dong-in had done what he'd done. He didn't reprimand him for doing wrong, and he didn't ask for explanations. He simply asked why Dong-in was acting differently.

Someone who worried for him. That's the kind of person Ki-woong was. He was compassionate, and thoughtful, and cautious.

Still, Dong-in couldn't open up to him.

"I know you're not the type of person to use violence willy-nilly. I'm sure there's something more going on, something I don't know, for you to be acting like this. I know you're more mature than this. If there's anything I can do, I want to help. We're not related, but you'll always be my younger brother."

I'm sorry, Dong-in thought. I'm sorry. Yet, the words didn't leave his mouth. He couldn't look at Ki-woong. He feared he would burst into tears if he did. He feared that Ki-woong would see him for who he really was: a repulsive coward.

Ki-woong looked at Dong-in, standing still, head hung low, and sighed as he pat his shoulder.

"I guess I rushed too much. We'll talk again once you calm down a bit, alright? You know I'm on your side."

He was so kind, and Dong-in had yelled at him, cursed at him. Stupid Dong-in. Bad Dong-in. He knew he would be spending a long time reprimanding himself.

Ki-woong turned around and left, closing the door behind him. As he made for the stairs, he ran across a boy in the hallway. It was the same boy that Dong-in had hit earlier. Ki-woong only knew of him from the many rumors surrounding him. He was much too young for the high schooler to have had any proper interactions with, but Ki-woong had heard that he was uncharacteristically clever and well-natured for his age. Frankly speaking, he had heard the most about his "ridiculously good looks" and his "face that would put models to shame," but neither of those things had been particularly interesting for Ki-woong.

"What brings you here? Do you want to see Dong-in?" asked Ki-woong.
"Yes." Lucid answered. There was no fluctuation in his voice, no emotion. His answer was short, level, almost cold and indifferent. Were all elementary schoolers like this, nowadays?
"Well, that's his room over there, but... Well. Why do you want to see him?"

No answer came, no matter how long Ki-woong waited. Dd he perhaps want to apologize? Or perhaps he was here for round two. Wait, Ki-woong thought. Wouldn't it be a bad idea for the two to meet, then?
"Do you mind if we had a little chat first? Just the two of us."

"I like all books. Even if I don't understand their content right away, as long as I keep reading, I can still learn from them, and then I'll come to understand more and more."

He sounded more like Ki-woong's peer than a first grader.

"Thank you," said Lucid, bowing his head.

The answer was almost automatic, coming out of his mouth without his brain even processing the question. Lucid felt his expression relax. Indeed, Myeong-su was his closest friend, who brought a smile to his face just by thinking about him.

"Myeong-su? Is he a classmate?"
"No, he's my roommate here."
"Oh, okay. Well then, let's give you an example. Say that one day, Myeong-su broke something you really value, and let's say that you got really, really angry. If you happened to hit him out of anger, would you feel good about it"
"No."

It leaves a mark on the body, sure, but it also hurts people inside. That's why in this world, where we have to coexist with others, violence is bad and should never be used lightly. That's why I yelled at Dong-in earlier, and why I'm apologizing on his behalf."

Ki-woong felt his shirt stick to his back from the sweat, but rather than feel accomplished at having explained the concept of violence, he was left feeling uncertain. Had he really explained it enough?

Lucid felt that he shouldn't answer with the full truth and chose to remain quiet, which caused Ki-woong to realize that he hadn't gone to apologize.

"Will you tell me what happened earlier?" Ki-woong asked again, leaning slightly to meet the boy's eye level. Lucid simply gave the same answer he had given to the teacher.

"Hmm. I can't really tell what started it from what you just told me. Can you think of anything?"
"No. I don't really know. That's why... That's why I wanted to talk to him. To ask him why."
"Oh, so that's why you came to meet him?"

Lucid forced himself to nod. He wasn't quite lying. That truly had been his intention, at least until he had changed his mind.

"You really are smart, and nice, too. I almost got the wrong idea about you. As I told you ealier, it's not easy, even for adults, to settle things through conversation. Same goes for me, too."

Ki-woong smiled and ruffled Lucid's hair. The boy, however, was already deep in thought.

Most importantly, he would have to continue living in this "society," and he felt that maybe, there were rules in this society against this type of "removal." Perhaps, even "that" world, the world that he had determined to be violent and barbaric... had rules against it.

This was something he had to keep thinking about. His own rules, the rules of this world, and the rules of that world. He would have to consider whether they were right or wrong, and he would have to consider this for a long time.

This was the day when Lucid was hit for the first time in his life, and the day when he first began to contemplate his views of the world and of society. It was also the day when, though he hadn't gone through with it, Lucid first considered using his magic to hurt someone.

Xi Yang who ordinary simple student and has peacefully life. But , when he find his lover make affair with his bestfriend all his life change.

As expected, Lucien did not find anything specially useful in the following four hours before he fell asleep. He read about ten pages, but most of them felt like independent words instead of meaningful sentences, probably because so many words in the notes about magic were really uncommon.

For sure Lucien had his own guesses of the meaning of some of them. But it was magic. He had to be more than careful before actually taking actions. Lucien did not want to die because of a stupid misreading mistake.

Fortunately, the previous owner of the notes treated it also like a diary. Some of her thoughts and experiences were written down as well. For this part, the witch used common words and grammar, from which Lucien managed to know the history of those magic notes, or say, books.

The witch was born in the last sorcerer family of the destroyed ancient Sylvanas Magic Empire. Her family hid into their old castle deep into the mountains to avoid the church’s slaughtering, ever since Aalto was taken over. But after hundreds of years there, the population of the family declined dramatically. In the end there were just three left: the witch and her parents.

The witch’s parents died in an accident when they tried to summon a creature whose name Lucien was not able to read. Then the witch became an orphan and she inherited two magic books: Astrology and Magic Elements; and Common Magic Related Materials Illustration.

Lucien wished the notes were relatively complete so he could understand it, otherwise he would have to learn the dying Sylvana’s language which, so to speak, was impossible.

Almost all of the jobs Copper Cornet could offer were under the control of the Aaron gang. Lucien lost his job again. He had to dig into his savings recently to support himself.

But it was also nice that Lucien could seize the chance staying focused on his study, as well as avoiding the possible revenge from the gang. Joel was still playing on the busy streets in the administrative district, while Alisa was doing laundries for the association. Both of them were relatively far from the market area, where the Aaron gang tyrannized the most.

They all agreed that Lucien still ranked first among them regarding being in danger. They warned Lucien not to leave the city, not to go to anywhere deserted, and even told him to be alert during bed time in case some bastards tried to burn down his shack.

So, after washing his face and finishing his hard brown bread softened in boiling water, Lucien felt there was nothing for him to do.

But the feeling did not last more than a minute. Soon Lucien went outside and found an open field. He started to practice sword with a wood stick following John’s direction. Lucien longed for strength to protect himself, even though he knew his training was too late. John told Lucien that after sixteen years old, the chance of a person being Blessed was very slim, close to none, unless he received the Holy Light Water from the church.

Lucien also kept Jackson’s dagger handy, in case of any danger. 

After practicing, Lucien went back home. It was nine o’clock in the morning. The sun in the sky just started showing its real power. Taking a short rest, Lucien opened his books again and started reviewing. He was much more diligent and self-disciplined than ever before.

“You have never really learned these before?” Victor asked with great surprise, “None of them?”

Lucien’s progress was more than impressive. He answered all the questions perfectly and fluently. He even asked some questions he found in spelling, which most students could not notice at all until they started having  a solid foundation. With just one day study, Lucien had almost caught up with his classmates, Colin and Renee. The two students from common background had been studying here for more than three months.

Was Lucien a genius? Or just a liar. The students were guessing.

“I swear I have not, Mr. Victor. We’re already speaking common tongues in our lives, aren’t we? I can’t read, but I know the connections between the letters and sounds are more important. I used my imagination.” Lucien explained. He wanted people to believe he was just smart, instead of regarding him as an incomprehensible monster, which would possibly bring him trouble.

For sure Lucien did not tell him about the library. 

Victor nodded and smiled approvingly, “Good, very good. You’re gifted in learning language.”

Lucien was envied by most students in the class. Hearing Victor’s commendation, Lott and Felicia, who had been learning from Victor for five years, exchanged a look. 

“It sounds pretty useful.” Felicia nodded slightly with her hands crossed over her lap. As a noble girl, she always sat straight.  

Lott was about to shrug his shoulders, but was stopped by the thought that the gesture might not look elegant. Facing Felicia, his long time competitor, Lott tended to be more careful.

“The poor speak the common tongue as well. They just don’t know how to spell and read. It’s always better than starting from scratch, isn’t it?” He also added, “Even if they learn it, it won’t be much useful for learning music.”

“I have my own idea for learning music, not like you.” Felicia responded sharply, “You’re gifted, but gift cannot last long. If I were you, I’d spend more time on practicing instead of fooling around with girls.” She then looked at Lucien. “Even the poor guy, if he starts learning music he will probably do a better job than you.” She smiled with her bright beautiful teeth.

All the classmates believed that Lucien wanted to become a musician. They did not know the actual simple reason why Lucien chose Victor as his teacher. In the eyes of the common folk, choosing a teacher represented one’s future path. For example, if a person wanted to be an official in the town hall or the court, he or she would definitely choose scholars with law or history background, instead of a musician.

But all careers needed to be recognized by nobles. Only then it would indicate real success.

“If he’s better than me, he’s better than you, Felicia.” Lott sneered.

Felicia was about to say more, but noticed Victor was looking in this direction. She raised her hand and tidied her red hair, then lowered her head and went back to her studies.

Victor started speeding up Lucien’s learning. Soon they finished the rest of the spelling rules and moved to basic grammar, which was exactly what Lucien was expecting.

Friday, the last day of Lucien’s study this week.

After a few days’ learning, Lucien had mastered most of the grammar. Were it not for lacking vocabulary, Lucien could even start learning magic now. He had made a big progress with the magic notes as well, in which the witch explained why she came to Aalto:

“Along with the increase in my spiritual power, it has become harder for me to immerse myself in meditation… Shall I try the meditating the way only real sorcerers can?”

“It was too dangerous. I almost died. Perhaps I should improve the apprentice meditation based on my experience.”

“I got lost, completely. No wonder all the great seniors didn’t make any improvement. I’m too shallow, too arrogant.”

“Even the magic structure of the first level is too complicated. I can’t find a way to build the magic mark model. It’s driving me crazy… I have the potion already, but without the model I can’t move forward to be a real sorceress!”

“I don’t know… maybe I should try to make a potion of ‘Magic Gate’. It contains a level-one magic in it. Perhaps I can make it this way.”

“I need Snow Gorse… Maybe I should go to Aalto. It’s the biggest city on the west continent. There’re also many hidden sorcerers and sorceress. It’s dangerous, but I shall still have a chance.”

So far, that was all Lucien could read from the notes. He was very curious about her experience in Aalto, but decided to finish the remaining few pages later tonight.

Today Lucien also wanted to borrow a common tongue dictionary and put it into his library. If everything went well, Lucien could start learning magic on the weekend.

His heart was full of hope.

Arriving back at the Library, I nodded to the Head Librarian as I headed back into the depths of the building. Flipping the rectangular medallion I watched Nostradamus engrave <Magic Language> onto before he gave it to me, I finally took the opportunity to <Scan> the 'pass.'

Hmm, that last one might be a problem, even if I'm used to GPS and having my privacy invaded by stalker hacker friends.

Still. 

Considering the squiggles which were not deciphering themselves no matter how hard I tried, the first objective was to definitely learn <Magic Language.> Even if I might not ever use it, at least traditionally, it would allow me to decipher and unravel the spells around me more easily. Being able to break down and understand the spells I saw would allow me to possibly recreate it.

"Kuroy?"

"Call me Nori, Miss Auteberry," I managed not to cringe. That's going to haunt me for a long while—as long as I stayed in Crown City, basically.

She merely blinked, otherwise remaining standing with two books held in her arms. "Elin, then. Congratulations on being granted a Special Pass-Key for our humble Library. Do you need me to direct you to the Magical Archives?"

Walking up to her, I nodded once. I didn't exactly dislike her no-nonsense personality. "Yes, thank you. And 'Special'?"

Elin started walking, her heeled boots surprisingly silent considering her pace; I easily kept up with her considering our difference in height.

"There are several types of keys one can get that would allow one to bypass the various wards of the building and rooms. A basic pass-key will allow one to be unmolested by the wards once public hours are over. There are the Librarian Keys which allows us access to all rooms and are only usable by the one it was given to. Then, there are the special pass-keys that are tailored specifically, depending on the individual it was granted to."

She glanced at the medallion I was flipping around. It was an oddly-shaped card made from carved wood that had a hole for something to be threaded through, while the other side ended in blunt tongs. (If it were a "key," I suppose it resembled some I saw in Ancient Chinese dramas.)

Her glasses glinted. "You have permanent access to the public and general sections of the Library in addition to the Magical Archives. You may enter other archive rooms with limitations."

I put away the Library Key in my pocket, while in actuality sending it to my Inventory so it wasn't liable to be lost. Staring at the double-doors we found ourselves stopping at, I studied the heavily engraved archway in curiosity.

"Nori, welcome to the magical wing of Westria's premier library," Elin smiled as if in anticipation before pushing open the doors.

"Oh my glob."

She adjusted her glasses and blinked once slowly. "Sorry?"

"Nothing."

Those bookcases had five to six shelves each and the first floor has—

'Thanks for doing the math for me,' was my faint reply.

"I will head back to the Law and History sections now," Elin said.

"Y-yeah, thanks," I distractedly replied as I stepped further into the wing, ignoring the others present that ranged from students (judging by their outfits) to academics both independent and affiliated with the Crown City universities.

Now, where would books to help me learn <Magical Language> be…?

I walked to the bookshelf mentioned, eyes focusing on the spine of the book my partner pointed out to me.

[This would help you learn the basic <Magic Language.> <Warding Language> is a different subset that requires an understanding of the Standard.]

Right, I do remember that <Magic Language> was actually a catch-all term for the system of writing/speaking that was used for magic and that some magical beings spoke. There were dozens of different "dialects" to cover.

Well. I do enjoy a challenge sometimes. Especially one that would only benefit me in the end!

'Oops, you caught that?'

I wouldn't use it anyway, considering the level of environmental landscaping it did when Lina Inverse from Slayers cast that spell. It was just a theoretical practice idea!

[Alright.] 37 still sounded hesitant to believe me.

I'm hurt, seriously. I'm being completely (not really) genuine too! I sent him an image of a crying emoji before stopping the amusing banter and pulling the book out.

'What others would you recommend while I'm here?'

Pulling out the other texts he pointed out, I turned around and just leaned against the bookcase since it wasn't a heavily trafficked area of the archives—I wouldn't be in the way and I'd get some privacy and quiet to study.

I was so lost in trying to comprehend the language, had taken out some texts written purely in magical script (basic, so I just didn't need to read it out loud and I was safe from accidentally summoning Cthulhu) to increase my learning rate, I was surprised at how empty the archives was when I finally looked up.

A Library Sprite was floating around me, speaking in a voice I know recognized belonged to the Head Librarian. Staring at the fairy light in confusion for a moment, I pulled the Library Key from my Inventory and watched as it immediately lost interest in me and floated off.

Frowning, I stared down at the wooden pass-key. The only logical explanation was that items in the Inventory could not be detected which meant I had to buy something to make it into a lanyard (or a clunky pendant) as soon as possible.

'Sorry, what was that?' I asked the AI who was the one who interrupted me in my studying haze.

[You should probably eat something, Nori.]

'Was it dinner time?'

[That was two hours ago.]

"Oh," looking around and understanding why the wing was emptier now, I set aside the books and pulled out something that would not make a mess when I ate it from the Inventory.

[May I have permission to get programming texts to read from Earth?]

His question distracted me from trying to figure out the grammar of magic. Oh, I suppose 37 would be pretty bored with me reading all the time. And I expect that's pretty much what I'd do for the next few weeks at the least too. Maybe months. 

Back to life as a university student in another world; how ironic.

'Yeah, sure, take $5000 from my account and go wild,' I absentmindedly replied. His mention of programming had me catch an idea about magical grammar. (And 37 learning more about coding would only benefit us in the long run.)

As soon as I finished this sandwich, I needed to find a basic spellbook to double-check my idea.

And so, a month passed.

Zenith: They move on and get better that's where the difference lies. If you see any CN author who made it big, you can see that they had their share of experience before getting there, or for that matter, any author in the Western world.

Murakami: Not necessarily publishing houses only accept works they think will sell.

Zenith: The ones who get it big the first time are rare.

Murakami: So you might not see how they built up to their debut novel. Authors can have 15-20 scrapped novels b4 they debut, and the public don't get to read a single one.

Zenith: That doesn't make the author lose his experience of writing those scrapped novels that's the point I was making.

Murakami: But it also means that it's more like hit and miss.

Reili: True because they don't get the feedback from fans.

Murakami: They get limited feedback from an agent/editor who doesn't want to read their work.

Zenith: Yeah, but it surely is better than nothing.

Murakami: And they're left with a bunch of abstract and vague advice that they have no idea how to implement.

Reili: If they don't enjoy it, the feedback won't be as insightful.

Zenith: They can learn from their mistakes from reading their own works.

Reili: Well…

Zenith: If possible, from platforms.

Murakami: If they knew how to do that they'd fix it and publish it.

Reili: It would make the process easier if someone who enjoys the book to give them better feedback.

Zenith: It's called rewriting from scratch, and it takes a tonne of time if the author feels more interested in some other idea of his, he would do that.

Reili: I suppose so since the author being inspired will bring his book along.

VKBoy: If the ones giving review are professional editors, then they don't necessarily have to have read your work with immersion because their suggestions will still likely cover the basic flaws that amateurish writers usually make.

Reili: Point taken.

Zenith: Yeah.

Murakami: @VKBoy if they spot those errors they'll put down the manuscript after the first page

Reili: Then again, its a little bit like movie critics. They may hate the movie, but fans love it.

Zenith: Yeah.

Murakami: And then send a reply saying, "Don't send in another manuscript until you learn how to write properly."

Zenith: Professionals in the said field prefer not taking risks. Especially in movies, but books, you can keep trying.

VKBoy: Well, if there are errors in the first page itself, that's a whole different thing, lol.

Reili: True.

Murakami: No, but a good editor can tell the writing quality from just the first page even if you've crafted it perfectly, they can just tell that the rest will be shit.

Reili: You have to also take into account of one punch man. The original comic looks terrible, but the redraw made it amazing.

Zenith: That's smartness of the creator.

VKBoy: Well, in one punch man's case, it got attention from the companies after it got popular in the online communities.

Reili: So a persons writing and grammar may be terrible, but with a little editing, the story itself could be amazing.

Zenith: You can let the editor do the Shi*t and focus on your story, It works.

Overlord Venus: Yeah, solo leveling is a good example. The story is bland.

Reili: But it would also help if the author re-reads the edit to make sure the essence of their story is still there.

HavenlyJeep: Essence and core backbone.

Zenith: @Reili It depends on what the author wants, and how much work he is willing to put in.

VKBoy: Of course, some editors just butcher the style of the author.

Reili: Same but honestly I just use Grammarly and the read aloud function in word to make sure the chapter makes sense.

Zenith: You can learn about writing, grammar, editing if you truly want. It is just the question of, would you?

Reili: I'm more into thinking up ideas and writing them than editing.

VKBoy: Editing is also writing, mate. Rewriting is where real writing lies.

Zenith: It's a skill in writing a story, but your choice.

Reili: Point taken.

Murakami: You can't be a writer without being an editor.

Zenith: Editing it yourself can help you keep the heart of the story.

Reili: That being said, the more I write, the better my basic grammar became.

Zenith: You will keep the feels right.

Reili: Editing is now part of the process.

Zenith: And not make it just sound or look better, you give what the story wants
And that is a great thing.

Reili: Creative freedom.

Zenith: I want to learn grammar and revise what I learned.

VKBoy: @Zenith Learning grammar will take years, so take it slow and steady. That way, memories stick with you for longer times.

Reili: I do read mtl sometimes since I can't wait for chaps, but then I find myself reading in broken English and must stop.

Murakami: I'd like to correct that statement VKBoy. Learning grammar is easy
learning "usage" is hard.

VKBoy: lol, if you read mtl, your IQ drops. Believe me, this can affect a person's writing skill in the long run.

Reili: Definitely, which is why I stopped.

Author's Notes

I'm sure you've read this a few times in the previous chapters, but I had been reading MTL chapters for the past few years. I usually read "Completed" stories, and most of them are around 2-4k chapters each. Of course, I read the translated chapters first. After I reach the latest translated chapter, I will immediately jump to *cough* Google Translate.

Yeah~ I know. Reading chapters through Google Translate was the most…epic mistake I did in the past. I've finished World Defying Dan God, Battle Through the Heavens uhh…and a few more novels using Google Translate.

In the later years, I discovered lnmtl.com, which gave me a better translation (at least the names of the characters are not written like Cloud Che instead of Yun Che (Against the Gods). 

To be perfectly honest, If I didn't start writing, I would have continued to read these machine translated chapters even now. Reading MTL works if English is not your first language.

This is something that those with English as their main language will scoff at. However, for those who just want to read. As in reading something without worrying about anything else, then they won't care even if it's a machine translated chapter. As long as they will be able to read the NEXT chapter, then it's all good.

This is also the reason why I admire translators. If not for them, these stories that we are not aware of will not be able to grace us with their presence. I would like to thank the translators of my favorite novels like Lord of Mysteries, Release that Witch, Against the Gods, Cultivation Chatgroup, Second Coming of Avarice, and so many other titles that I won't be able to list here.

To my beloved readers, if there will come a time when you feel like writing a story of your own and you're reading machine translated chapters, please stop now. I'm saying this for your own good. 

I understand how you feel. Believe me I do, but for the sake of the story you're going to write in the future, heed my advice. Stop now, while you still have the chance. Learning how to write from scratch with broken English is a painful process.

Then again, if you find an editor who is a masochist, consider yourself lucky. Let them clean up your mess for you, so you can focus on writing your story, and learn the art of writing while you write.

As for me, I have nothing else to do, given that Lily keeps on shooing me away whenever I try to offer my help, even to the other servants.

Maddie was once again right beside me, loitering around in the library. I don't know, but ever since we got engaged, she would always make time to come and see me. Not that I dislike it; however, I'm anxious that I might be becoming a nuisance for her daily responsibilities.

A third book once again found its mark on the opposite side of the wall, right behind me.

What did I do wrong this time?

I noticed Maddie's face terribly blushing. Oh right, she must've kept on reading my mind and saw all those physical assets of hers that I find attractive.

Heh, wait 'till she sees the charming aspects of her personality—

"AWAWAWAWAWA!!! I SAID ENOUGH!" Maddie was already in panic-embarrassed mode. I could picture a steam rising from her head as her face got even redder. However, that's not my concern. In her attempt to distract me, she inadvertently caused the entire contents of the bookshelf behind her to fly around.

"Ah! Maddie, calm down!" Half-amused, half-panicking as well, I tried to appease this cute girl beside me. Good thing, she managed to calm herself before the library got chaotic beyond control.

"Pervert!" Maddie playfully stuck her tongue out to me.

Oh well, that's what you get for violating my mind's privacy.

Maddie could only pout to express her annoyance at what I just did. I patted her head to ease her heart, and to make amends as well.

"You know, you may hold me in your arms…" she suggested, still pouting.

"Hmm…as much I wanted to, I can't do that just yet." I gently replied.

"Eh?! A girl's already inviting you, and you're refusing her?"

"Well, I have to." I answered, before explaining, "I respect you and your family, see? It's not that I don't find you unattractive; I'm doing this because we're all alone in this library, and you're a pretty girl, so…"

"So…?"

"Haha! I'm a healthy human male, even if I'm way too older than you. You get the idea? Alone and in love…"

Maddie never uttered a word. She just floated with her back turned towards me. However, I can see Maddie's ears as red as a beet.

I hope she understood what I meant…it's for her best anyway.

"O-of course!" I heard her say. "And that's the very reason I fell for you in the first place, Kuro."

Oh god, now it's my turn to blush. Not wishing to wallow in this sickeningly sweet air around us, I took the opportunity to tell her something I wanted to say before. "You know, would it be fine to you if we take our time to get to know each other well?"

"Isn't that what we're doing now?"

"Of course."

"Don't worry, Kuro!" Maddie winked at me, "It's not like I'm in a hurry to marry; I still want to do many things before settling down. I just want to make sure that you'll be mine."

"Oh…okay…" Honestly, I'm impressed by her straightforward manner of expressing her feelings. If it was me, I'd find myself dilly-dallying and mincing my words before I manage to speak what I meant to say.

Is that from her mother as well, I wonder?

In any case, I better not let Maddie's expectations down.

Honestly, that conversation I had with God remained at the back of mind ever since that time. Questions like, "what does He mean by 'Chersea's greatest crisis'?" and, "Will there be another human-demon war?", permeate my thoughts whenever I'm alone.

Devras' face then appeared in my thoughts. That guy's the first person (male) in this world I truly had an enjoyable talk. It would be a shame if we ended up fighting against each other.

To have an idea of what God might be talking about, I went browsing through the library's volumes of history books. Maddie was at the table where we were before, floating freely as she slept.

I don't know. Though she may be Chersea's Saint and the ultimate person concerned with this land's daily affairs, I feel like I shouldn't bother Maddie with this problem just yet. I mean, she had been through a lot of heavy stuff recently, and I want her mind to take a break off for the meantime.

That's why I'm doing this while she's asleep.

Ah anyway, in other related matters, good thing is that for some reason, I can somewhat understand the letters of this world even when I just got summoned. Chersea's writing is quite complex, and there were a few punctuations present in their grammar system. For example, narrative statements are usually written from bottom to top, and there are no quotation marks used to indicate dialogue. You'd only know that it is a character-spoken statement when the sentence is written top to bottom.

Whether this is an effect of my summoning, or magic in itself, I don't know. What I do get is that this phenomenon is really convenient for me. Saves a lot of time that would be spent on learning Chersea's writing and language.

So anyway, after looking out for the right book, I finally found the thing I'm searching for…

'Chronicles of the Demon War'

Since this thick book is the last one among a series of equally-impressive volumes with similar titles, I assumed that the last one is the most recent record of the history of human-demon wars. It is heavy, so I carefully pulled it off from its spot—a relatively high shelf, and carried it all the way back to my table.

Hmm…the Chronicles of the Demon War, volume XI. This is the account of the most recent human-demon war, which started when the demon king, Melqart Buvor, succeeded the infernal throne…

The eleventh volume of the book about the human-demon wars is a detailed history of everything related to that topic. It chronicled its background, which it claimed to have started the moment the previous conflict ended, and up to the legacy it gave to all races that were involved.

Well, I'm a fast-reader, but I still haven't been able to finish the entire book. I guess it would require several sittings—so I plan to read that again sometime later.

For now, I just need to know about the summary of that conflict. Maybe I'd get some clues on that crisis God was telling me…

Alright, so if you're wondering, here's a brief summary of what I managed to understand.

The most recent demon war began with the succession of the demon king, Melqart Buvor to the infernal throne of the demon race. Upon uniting the entire demon lordships, he embarked on an ambitious plan to conquer the human realm—a first step in his revanchist desire after their defeat in the previous conflict with humanity.

Aided with a new, powerful form of magic, King Melqart launched an invasion that destroyed the kingdoms of Venn and Thelmose, as well as many other duchies and principalities that was in its path. Many humans suffered and died; either from the murderous demons, or the famine and plagues that followed their destruction.

The northern countries were the most affected. They tried to ask for the help of the Empire of Chersea—the strongest human state at that time, but their pleas fell on deaf ears. The Imperials also sought to strengthen their own defenses, should the armies of the demons arrive in their borders, and in the process, left the northern Cherseans to their ruin.

It was at this time that in the part of the Empire nearest the armies of the demon king, the duchy of Nerfes, called for the aid of the heavens. They collaborated with the Saint, who refused to evacuate and decided to stand with her loyal paladins. Under the auspices of the great god, Gaius and his consort, Arame, they summoned powerful individuals to help humanity survive the bitter struggle against the demons. These men and women are now called 'Heroes'.

The war lasted for several seasons, even with the help of the heroes. It was the most destructive, and bitterest conflict ever to face mankind. Millions died, kingdoms obliterated, the lands to the further north of Chersea turned to desolate wastelands. But in the end, humans prevailed and managed to drive the invaders back to their own lands…

Ah well, it's pretty interesting to note the names of the heroes summoned by the Saint of that time.

That last hero, Cassandra David…her name sounds familiar to me. I don't know where exactly I heard of it, but I feel like I uttered that name before…

Anyway, long story short, the general history of the human-demon war is: before heroes—defeat, after heroes—win. A typical ending for any fantasy novel out there, I know. But well, it's on the after-effects of that conflict that I once again became interested.

Because, during the course of the war, the heroes were supported by the duchy of Nerfes and other autonomous states of the Empire that was still functioning. The Holy Palatial Gardens also helped the heroes, and that caused a rift in the relationship of those surviving northern duchies and the rest of the Imperial Chersea.

When the war was over, the Empire was forced to grant further autonomy to Nerfes and elevated its status into a client kingdom, in order to preserve the Imperial authority in those parts.

However, it was too late. In the next few seasons after the end of the human-demon conflict, the northern states of the Empire rebelled and proclaimed independence from the Imperial rule.

Why would they continue to be ruled under a country that doesn't care for them anyway?

And so, that leads back to the present, and the geopolitical situation of Chersea, the realm of humans.

Wait, nothing was answered in my questions. This was indeed, 'humanity's greatest crisis'—at least, it was way back during those dark times. However, what about God's words? What crisis is He referring to?

Having hit a dead end, I took the book and put it back on its shelf. Well, it's not like I totally wasted time researching on nothing; I actually learned more about Chersea's past. But I guess, to answer my questions, I really have to scan around the entire history section of the library, which is…uh…I think, it'll take a long while…

Who knows, I might stumble again on some interesting stuff if I did just that.

Going down the ladder that was for accessing the higher parts of the library (Chersea's history books about the human-demon war occupy a high shelf), I accidentally missed a step and almost fell crashing on the floor. Fortunately, I managed to grab hold on a sturdy part of the shelf before me, thus, avoiding a painful accident.

"!!!"

However, some books that were out of their proper place were the ones that fell. It caused a muffled crashing sound, which is good, since I don't want to disturb Maddie on her sleep.

Having gone down safely from the ladder, I picked the books that fell to place them back in their former positions. I looked into the titles just to be sure I'm arranging it in a manner that would help the maid sorting it.

"!!!"

A book with blood red letters for its title caught my attention. Singling it out, I read the words on the thick, leather cover…

'Bloody Witch of Meldech'

Hmm…pretty interesting title, huh? I wonder if this is a novel, or—

Oh right, this is the history section…

So, Cherseans have legends like this classified as official history. I mean, come on, the book title reeks of chuunibyou. How can someone take this seriously?

I was shocked when the book—as heavy as it weighs—suddenly flew away from my hands. I was about to run from fright when I saw Maddie behind me.

"What? Was that you who knocked that book away from my hand?" I sighed in relief as I saw her. I almost thought it's a ghost, or something else.

"Ah yes. Was wondering about that book you're reading…"

"Oh that? It's some weird book about a 'Bloody Witch' of something…"

"I see…" Maddie then uttered a spell that caused all the books scattered nearby to return neatly by themselves in their respective places. I couldn't help but to marvel at the ability she displayed; it's just way too cool for me to handle.

"Ah anyway, Kuro, can I ask you something?"

"Hm? Sure, what is it?"

"Uhm…can you please refrain from mentioning this 'Bloody Witch' thing?" Maddie then brought the book that talks about that very topic; it seemed like she purposefully left it out with her when she returned the other books on their shelves. "I didn't know that there's still a copy of this book here; please forget anything that you read about it."

Then, without uttering a word, she burned it to ashes.

"…"

Honestly, I'm all creeped-out by Maddie's sudden change in character. Even without her speaking, I could sense that she's dead serious with her request for me to forget what I just saw.

"Kuro, please, can I count on your cooperation in this matter?"

"A-alright." I was bewildered by the sudden turn of events that I didn't think much of my answer.

Ah, it's not like it has something to do with me anyway, I hope…

The God of Chersea had retired. Not wishing to be bothered by another land to govern, the gods chose a few mortals known as the Saints to guide Chersea for them. Each were given a corresponding god-like powers, and each had different personalities. Enter Kuro. He was a human from Earth that was summoned by the Human Saint, all because she was bored. And for that to happen, Kuro must discover and wield the power he didn't know he possessed long before he was summoned to Chersea...
