From the oldest of times, to the modern day, this anthology book series will cover tons of creative and original horror stories.

For example, we're going to have serial killers and ghosts. We're going to have mysteries and comedy. We're going to have a range of stories, and a ton of fun.

Hey, just got a question for you all.

So I have a glossary with information on every Pokémon Joe catches. It gets updated with every new development, so after 3.5 there were things added to Fomantis' glossary page that said why it favours it's Trainer now. Another example is with Absol. At the end of 1.3 Joe theorises why the Pokémon goes with him, but in the glossary it's outright stated why Absol picks Joe as it's Trainer.

The glossary will also hint at future content. For example, Nidoran's past is in the glossary, and from that you may be able to figure out where Nidoran's story will lead. The glossary keeps track of every little thing for every single Pokémon Joe catches. Personality quirks, history, what it wants, etc. Everything you can think of.

Now, my question is, how do you want this information? At the moment there are 2 choices. 

1) I add another fan fiction to my account labelled 'Becoming Legend Companion Glossary'. Each chapter will be an individual Pokémon and will be updated alongside the main story. This means that, after the main story focuses on a Pokémon, like Fomantis, a new paragraph will be added to Fomantis glossary chapter that details the Pokémon's new development. This means it's another 'book' to follow though. 

2) A website, likely on WordPress. This means readers would have to go to an external source to get all the information, but if that's how readers want it then fair enough.

Either way, the information will be the same. When Absol's ability is revealed, the Absol chapter of the glossary will be updated so the ability is permanently displayed. 

So yeah, leave a comment on which you'd prefer. If you have a different idea about how to handle the glossary, let me know and I'll definitely consider it. :)

Having no interest in becoming a Pokemon Trainer, Joe started adulthood by getting a job at the local store. But, after a run-in with a Legendary Pokemon, Joe decides a different lifestyle will be a good change of pace so he sets off to help others, catching as many Pokemon as possible along the way.

He later encounters a woman with psychic abilities, and she believes him to be quite special. She insists on travelling with him and so begins a journey across the Pokemon World.

"Research assistant mission, published by Mentor Han Yunfeng. Long-term recruiting low-level Mystic assistants. Requirements: read 'Mineral and Plants Glossary, Edition 20077', proficient with Flame Control Technique! Those willing can come for an interview. The reward will be discussed in person!"
'Mineral and Plants Glossary'? Fang Yuan searched and found that it was an introductory book. Furthermore, there were thousands of them!
As the galaxy was vast and boundless, new species were being discovered all the time.
Unfortunately… there are only pictorial descriptions. Without seeing it in person, there's no way to trigger resonance and determine the needs of the Heaven Devouring Mystic Technique, Fang Yuan thought regretfully. He then checked out the comments below the mission.

"Scam! The most that we learn now is the flora and fauna edition for Planet East Dragon. Who would try to remember those of the entire galaxy? Even seniors must find it impossible, right? There are no credits either!"
"Although the Flame Control Technique isn't expensive, it's standalone. There are no continuations. Who would waste their energy on learning that?"
"The poster above me is a fool! The Flame Control Technique was a must for low-level ancient alchemists. I am from the pharmacy department and have trained in the technique. I remembered the glossary and went for the interview with Mentor Han Yunfeng, but his requirements for the Flame Control Technique are too high. The mentor only accepts masters of the technique… I didn't make the cut."
"What a big revelation!"
"Mysterious senior passing by, just smiling…"
"That Mentor Han Yunfeng is known to be stingy. The credits awarded are extremely few. He didn't impart any dao arts or spiritual techniques either."
"Wow! The poster above me is really brave. You're not afraid of a teacher giving you trouble!"

"It looks like the requirements are high, but the rewards aren't much. He's received a lot of negative feedback."
Fang Yuan browsed again and found that the price of the Flame Control Technique was at a low thirty credits. As for the 'Mineral and Plants Glossary, Edition 20077', it was a public resource that he could read without paying. He made his decision immediately.
"Almost all the other missions have a cultivation level requirement, and there aren't many that are suitable for beginners. This one didn't mention a specific cultivation level requirement, so let's give it a try!"
He searched and found out that although the Flame Control Technique was a standalone technique incapable of further progression, its reviews among the low-level pharmacy students were very solid. He nodded and made the exchange.
"So pharmacy is the ancient alchemy equivalent? I've seen some drugs and tools on sale on the school website… If I learn this, I could make some money…"
Fang Yuan received the information, and the Arcane Smart-Brain immediately formed the psyche model, mastering the spiritual technique. 
The interaction between his smart-brain and his True Spirit produced a fundamental change, the fusion of terrifying calculative power and supreme intellect. He absorbed the information in the Mineral and Plant Glossary at an incredible pace while walking along the road. 
By the time he arrived at Han Yunfeng's door in the teachers' housing area, he had memorized thousands of books.
This mentor stayed near the core of the zone, and it was visibly different from Lü Songyang's corner house near the periphery. It was a three-story courtyard house with a garden.
Fang Yuan walked up to a lion carving on the main door and talked into it, "Teacher Han Yunfeng? I am Student Lin Meng, here for the research assistant mission!"
The lion's eyes flashed red. Fang Yuan was prepared and immediately strengthened his Breath Holding Technique. A man's gentle voice emerged, and the main door opened.
"Come in yourself. I'm in the living room!"
Fang Yuan entered with large strides. Walking through the pebble walkway in the colorful garden, he arrived in the living room.
"Please take a seat!"
The traditionally decorated living room was full of dark wood furniture that gave off a thick and extremely refreshing herbal scent.
A young man wearing traditional clothes with hair reaching his waist was sitting cross-legged on an almond-yellow cattail hassock in the center of the living room and looking at a pill furnace in front of him.
It was a real pill furnace! It was bronze with three legs and two handles. Patterns of ancient beasts covered its surface, and flames were burning underneath.
Fang Yuan found it hard to take his eyes off of it. This kind of pill furnace must be an antique? It should really be given to a cultivation museum. The pharmacy students now synthesize all their drugs in the lab directly. With a smart-brain monitoring, they can calibrate proportions with extreme precision!
"Your name is Lin Meng? And you're a first-year?"
Han Yunfeng used his spiritual will to look up Lin Meng's information and frowned.
Of course, he did not see through Fang Yuan's disguise.
In fact, Fang Yuan's Breath Holding Technique (Modified) was only capable of dealing with this kind of initial inspection.
After all, the teachers did not have mental disorders. Scanning someone with their spiritual will on the first meaning was the norm, but constantly monitoring someone with it would be psychotic.
As long as he made it through the initial inspection, he could use the normal Breath Holding Technique in the future without any problem.
I'm also lucky… This Han Yunfeng seems to be at a similar cultivation level as Lü Songyang, both below ten!
Level ten was equivalent to ancient cultivation's Golden Core stage. By then, the Breath Holding Technique's grade would be too low, and it would be easy to spot something amiss.
Fang Yuan soon labeled Han Yunfeng. A researcher ill-versed in external affairs, but his status is higher than Lü Songyang… 
"Although I'm a first-year, you didn't specify any cultivation level requirements on your mission. It appears that this mission doesn't put too much emphasis on cultivation level either. I've also memorized the Mineral and Plant Glossary, and I have some experience with the Flame Control Technique."
"Oh? Is that so."
Han Yunfeng was a bit skeptical. He hit the pill furnace with a Dharmic formulation.
Rumble!
The pill furnace rumbled, and an opening appeared. Vapor that looked like rosy clouds rose from the opening, carrying a strong medicinal scent.
Three different colored pills flew out and landed in his hands. "Then tell me… what were the ingredients used in these pills?"
His expression showed that he was waiting for Fang Yuan to make a fool of himself.
Fang Yuan's eyes flashed, and he answered straightforwardly, "The pills' vapor looks like clouds. This is formed after Fire Cloud Sand has risen, so Fire Cloud Sand is one of the ingredients. The medicinal scent has the smell of roses mixed with musk. This is caused by the Whirling Flower Powder… I don't know about the other materials!"
He had intentionally not revealed everything.
"Good! Very good!" Han Yunfeng was slightly excited. "To think that you know even these kinds of transformations in nature. It looks like you weren't boasting about memorizing the glossary. To be able to determine two ingredients, you have very solid fundamentals. The remaining ingredients are Golden Bodhi, Yellow Cloud Beast's blood, and Black Water Mystic Crystal!"
"Understood, Teacher!"
"You have no problems with recognizing materials, so let's check your practical skills now…"
Han Yunfeng stood up from his cattail hassock. "Come and try this bronze cauldron. I've spent a great deal to make this cauldron according to ancient methods!"
"Okay!" Fang Yuan sat down on the cattail hassock cross-legged and skillfully activated a technique.
"Flame Control Technique? Your execution is extremely smooth. Good! Very good!" Han Yunfeng's eyes glowed upon seeing just that.
As expected, the ancient cultivation cauldron is too rigid. Controlling it is ten times harder than executing the technique alone!
Fang Yuan silently made a move, and his hand seals moved at lightning speed. "Rise!" 
Whoosh!
The flame that was about to die out suddenly grew tall, as though it had devoured some sort of fuel.
Strands of smoke licked the bottom of the cauldron before dividing and dancing around the cauldron like little flame snakes.
Suddenly, all the flame snakes amalgamated into a single body and turned green. The flame that was originally red suddenly turned green.
"Pure green cauldron fire? Good! Great!"
Han Yunfeng stopped Fang Yuan. "To be able to control the Flame Control Technique to the extent of producing pure green flames, not even many third-year and fourth-year pharmacy students could accomplish that. Hard work won't get you there, but talent will! Have you self-studied this information? How about choosing the pharmacy department?"
"Teacher!" Fang Yuan rolled his eyes in his mind. "Can we discuss the reward for this mission?"
"Oh! Right, right…" Han Yunfeng patted his forehead. "As you can see, I am researching the ancient ways of alchemy. I hope to compare it with the modern methods of making drugs and write a paper… As such, I need an assistant to watch over the cauldron fire!"
"I see!"
Fang Yuan nodded. He understood that the other party required someone to play the role of an ancient alchemy boy.
Of course, he would need to know how to deal with small accidents by himself.
"However, hasn't ancient alchemy died out already?" Fang Yuan voiced his thoughts.
"Yes, many ancient cultivation techniques have been proven to have low efficiency. A long time has passed… Modern pharmacy leaves the handling of the cauldron entirely to the smart-brain, and it can determine the exact effects. The success rate of making pills is at ninety percent. All we have to do is to infuse spiritual power and use spiritual will to harmonize the drug according to the smart-brain."
The Scientific Cultivation Method had proved that a cultivator's spiritual power and spiritual will were the catalysts necessary to synthesize pills. They were irreplaceable and indispensable.
Without this step, the smart-brain would have long industrialized making drugs and pills.
As such, for pharmacy students, the most amount of practice went into controlling their spiritual power and spiritual will, and cooperating with the smart-brain to produce high-quality pills. 
"The pharmaceutical industry is far beyond being comparable to the ancient ways. As long as there is enough spiritual energy and spiritual will, cultivators in the Qi Refinement stage can produce Foundation Building and Nascent Soul level pills. People can even jointly concoct pills. In theory, with smart-brain's assistance, as long as there are enough low-level cultivators, they could achieve Essence Soul or even Soul Transformation level alchemy techniques… Of course, this hasn't been realized!"
Han Yunfeng said frankly, "But the way I see it, there must be some merits to the ancient alchemy methods. For example, some top-tier drugs can only be produced by high-level pharmacist cultivators because they must be infused with Aural Dao! To put it another way, natural methods… are like… high-tier brain development drugs!"
"I see!"
Fang Yuan nodded. It appears that top-tier drugs are precious not only because of the ingredients, but also the difficulty in making them. Even the smart-brain can't do it. Only top-grade pharmacists can, but with a low success rate.

Jianghu - Normally refers to the martial arts world, but I choose to use it as a term that encompasses the cultivation world as a whole (Memories Blossoming in the Cultivation World doesn't sound quite as nice as Memories Blossoming in the Jianghu)

Cultivation - Cultivators are people who have the ability to absorb/use spiritual energy and use it to strengthen themselves. As they cultivate and level up (not unlike a pokemon), they gain longer and longer lifespans. Normally, the younger their real age is, the higher their potential, and once they pass a certain age it becomes harder to advance. The ultimate goal for most cultivators is to eventually ascend to a higher realm and gain immortality. Basically, they want to become a god.

Spiritual energy/qi/power (sorry I'm unable to commit to just one phrasing) - This is the energy of heaven and earth that exists in the natural world and can be richer or thinner depending on the area. Most sects settle in areas with the thickest spiritual energy, so they can increase the quality and quantity of their disciples. 

Pills/Elixirs - Pills are created by alchemists and contain compressed forms of spiritual qi. Can also be infused with a certain attribute/element. Elixirs are stronger versions of pills. The downside to using pills is that it can leave behind impurities in the cultivator's spiritual energy. However, most cultivators use pills, since their talent is insufficient. There are ways to purify spiritual energy after using pills.

Spirit roots - Spirit roots are a representation of talent. All cultivators have spirit roots and if a mortal is born with spirit roots, they can become a cultivator. The purer it is, the faster a person cultivates. Therefore, single element spirit roots represent higher talent and potential than tri element spirit roots. However, the element connected with spirit roots also represents the cultivator's affinity with whichever element. For example, though a cultivator with a single element fire spirit root can use water spells, they will be significantly weaker than a cultivator of the same level with dual wood and water spirit roots. Basically, cultivators with single element spirit roots advance faster, but cultivators with more elements have a more diverse range of spells to choose from.

Tribulation - Clouds carrying tribulation lightning from the heavens that strike (specifically in my cultivation system) when a cultivator attempts to ascend from nascent soul to spirit transformation stage (there may be different types of tribulation for later stages, not necessarily lightning). Since spirit transformation indicates a true transcendence from mortality and is a step towards one's own dao (spiritual path etc), the tribulation lightning is a test from the heavens to see if one is worthy. If one fails, they are forever blocked from the path to immortality.

Heart devil/demon - A psychological thorn in one's heart. Can be one's greatest fear, trauma, weakness, etc. If a cultivator is affected by this, they may have a mental barrier blocking their cultivation. During tribulation, the tribulation lightning not only physically attacks, but also mentally attacks by attempting to bring up any kind of heart devil/demon that may reside with the cultivator's conscious or subconscious mind.

Sect - Cultivation organization typically occupying an area of land that's rich in spiritual qi. There is a sect leader, ancestors, elders, seniors, etc. They normally recruit from cultivation clans and families, as well as from roaming individual cultivators. Smaller sects with less to choose from may look for mortals with spirit roots. Cultivators who have joined a sect are called disciples.

Inner/Outer Sect - Outer sect disciples are those who are less talented and have lower cultivation. Inner sect disciples have higher talent and higher cultivation. The resources are distributed unevenly, with the best going to the inner sect, and the leftovers to the outer sect. Inner sect disciples also may have a personal master. Outer sect disciples are left to fend for themselves and occasionally go to group lectures.

What defines a person? Is it their soul, body, or memories? Is it the choices they make along their journey in life? Or does fate decide?

"Only one thing was certain, her name was Jiang Xiulan. 

Or, was it?

Maybe it was Liu Lan?"

"For Liu Lan, who provided her with a body, she would avenge her death. For Jiang Xiulan, who provided her with a soul, she would regain her lost memories. For herself, who was both women and neither, she would live as Jiang Lan and cultivate to gain the strength necessary to fulfill her goals."

As she collects the pieces of her past, will she decide to leave her past behind or embark on a bloody road of no return? The path to ascension is long and the wheel of fate continues to turn with the reaping and sowing of karma.

Cultivation and Levels of Cultivation

Cultivating is usually performed meditating in a specific way.  There are many methods of Cultivation.  Those that are suited for some people are not always suitable for others.  

A person must have an awakened root in order to cultivate, but a person who does have an awakened root still may not have the ability.  If one is not determined, patient and have the time to cultivate, one should not try to step on the path.  If one has physical problems such as blocked meridians or a damaged innersea, one will have no ability to cultivate.

A dormant root is not necessarily an obstacle as there are pills that can awaken them.  It is not recommended that children over the age of ten attempt to awaken their roots.  The older a person is, the more likely they are to fail.  Failure will damage the root and shrink the meridians making it nearly impossible to fix. Life expectancy may also be reduced as well as overall physical health.

There is often a bottleneck between stages.  

Core Formation Stage

Core formation the time a Cultivator forms his inner core.  Peak stage simply means the Cultivator is soon to advance.  Some Cultivators do not recognise those that have not formed their core as being Cultivators.

Body Tempering Phase

Body tempering is the transformation of the body, making it stronger, sturdier, physical impurities completely removed and ageing lessened considerably.  Once this phase is complete, a cultivator can expect a very long life and no need to eat food, diamond like skin in both toughness and clarity.  No longer likely to contract illness, plus all five senses greatly improved.  Any physical impairment would also be fixed.

Each level has a low, mid and peak sub level.  Each sub level is like reaching another initial level.

Mind Tempering Phase

This is tempering of the mind; greater intelligence and reasoning, greater memory, much quicker of thought and greater mental senses; i.e. to danger, to atmospheric changes, to general moods.  Any mental impairment, in theory, would also be fixed, but in Ren Zexian's world, this has yet to be proven.

Each level has five sub levels.  We'll call them stars as this term is used in at least one of my favourite cultivation novels!

Soul Tempering Phase

Soul Tempering Phase is considered the true path to immortality.  In a middle realm, it is as rare as Phoenix teeth to reach this stage, however it is believed that there are those able to complete this path and reach the Heavens.  

Each level has seven sub levels, making this the hardest phase to conquer.

Denary 
Onodenary (this is made up, because apparently, an equivalent for eleven does not exist)
Duodenary (however, this word does exist!)

Who knows what, if anything, comes next!

Roots and levels of roots

Roots represent peoples abilities, so they are mostly elemental.  The more roots a person has, the more difficult to tailor their needs with cultivation methods, plus their ability to advance is much slower, hence those with three roots are considered wastes. 

Major Roots

Major roots have the most control over their elements and can 'create' their element from 'thin air'. 

There are five major roots being Wood, Fire, Earth, Water and Metal.

Minor Roots

Minor roots are not as powerful as major roots, partially as they only encompass a part of the ability found in Major roots.  They also are considered to derive from major roots.  For example Water is the major root, Ice is a minor root.  Water root owners can create and manipulate water including turning it to steam or ice.  Ice root cannot control water, just manipulate it, but they can change existing water to either steam or ice.  The name does not mean they can just deal with ice.

Examples of minor roots; Grounding(gravity), lightning, ice, sand, rock, air, plant, spirit, fog, sword, dark, light...

Body roots are often considered waste roots.  Few established Cultivators will bother to train someone with either only this type of root or someone with lots of roots.  These roots affect only the user.  So the water equivalent of 'mist', their owners can perhaps breathe under water and not get wet in rain.  Hence considered a bit useless.

Examples of body roots; Blessed, thunder, spark, smoke, diamond, curse, iron, mist, bone, feather, stone, star, lava...

There are naturally exceptions to the rules such as Jin Li's lightning, which is often seen as almost on par with a major root in many people's opinion and Leon's Star root, which actually does more than his own body and abilities.

There are mutated roots, but these are very rare and few and far between and even then it might not necessarily be a good thing to have.

Griffin
 tiger body, brown fur with yellow or orange stripes. Eagle like head but beak is cut jagged.  Four legs, three furred toes on each foot.  Eccentric plumage on tail.  Very large, the younglings are the size of elephants
Baku 
elephant like head with tusks, but also buffalo horns and ears.  Thick fur about the neck, thinning out on its more feline body.  Powerful feline fore and aft legs, paws and a thick furred tail.  About the size of a horse.  Travels smoothly over forest and mountainous terrain.  Intelligent, only allows riders it trusts upon its back.
Basilisk 
long serpentine body with lizard head and numerous sharp teeth, has small legs, six in number and a long tail.  An adult will have fans about its neck.  The stronger the beast, the more effective its paralysis skill.  Will only paralyse to escape or eat.  A greater basilisk is large enough to eat (and does eat) humans.  An elder basilisk in large enough to consume a griffin cub.

a type of bear, but with the markings and colours of a Fox.  It's nose is more vulpine than ursus as well.  A snow fox bear has the colourings of an artic fox.
Cooshee 
long rabbit ears, four eyes, two large and two tiny which are closure to the centre of its canine nose.  It has a fluffy wolf like form and as an adult can shift from its adult form back into its cute, puppy form.  Has a large wispy tail that fluffs out with long fur.
Faerie Dragon 
about the size of a mouse, it's opalescent scales body is long and slender and its nose is also long.  It has butterfly like wings and four legs.  It's long tongue sucks out honey from beehives, but it also eats meat from fresh corpses and fruits.
Cockatrice 
feathered serpent with a bird shaped head, fangs like a snake.  Very poisonous.  Adults have wings that they can use to fly.
Dream Hare 
long colourful ears, large powder puff tail, small rodent body, twitching rabbit nose and large black eyes.  Has the ability to cause weak predators to fall asleep.  Very popular with female beast tamers.
Dire Beasts 
stronger versions of wild animals, such as rats, wolves, tigers and much less tameable.
Sky Koi 
fish like spirit creature that swims through mist and fog
Chimera 
twin headed lion with goat horns and scales.  One half is mostly white with black scales and the other is mostly black with white scales.  Only born when Yin and Yang lions come together.
Mesmyr 
horse like creature, males have a crown of horns.  They have six eyes and are all black.  They have thin, whip like tail and a carapace along their backs.  Can be ridden, but usually only by one person in their lifetimes that they have shown loyalty to.
Lightning Fox 
white or yellow vulpine with a white or blue mane and a squirrel like tail.  They are just a little smaller than a regular fox and have lightning abilities, which vary with strength and age.
Garuda 
ape like body with feathered wings attached to their arms and a beak upon its face.  It's feet have talons rather than toes. It is about the size of a small gorilla
Worgen 
a cross between a feline and a canine, it has the facial features of a wolf, but cat like eyes that slit and sharp fangs.  It's forebody is broad and often striped like a tabby, but it's tail is prehensile.  It has cat like grace, can climb sturdy trees, but in lives in packs and has an affinity to the moon.
Coeurl 
feline in shape, but covered in scales (unless it is a cub, which still has fluffy fur).  It's whiskers are like long, thin cat tails though it's actual tail is more like that of a lizard.  Can be ridden and is a favourite war steed.  Has stubby car ears or has large, almost bat like ears.  Feline eyes and facial features.
Green Spirit Deer 
like sky koi, are spiritual creatures. Jade green in colour with antlers that resemble blossoming tree branches.
Alicorn 
not a horse, actually a type of small deer with no antlers, but a single long horn just above it's nose.  White in colouring, usually found in cold climates.
Nibblet 
hairless gerbil like rodent with sharp teeth, small wings.  Loves fruit and is protective of its territory.  Lives in large family groups.
Antlion 
giant predatory insect, lives in sand dune traps
Zebra Elk 
black and white patterned elk like creature with either black ebony or ivory white antlers.  Also has a long thick furred tail and it's mane stretches from the top of its head to the base of its spine.
Pixiu 
miniature feline creature with a webbed mane, spines and other varying features. Although they are omnivores, they are not savage animals, will happily consume beetles, berries and small fish.
Longnecked Deer 
shaped like a deer, but with a long twisting neck and small antlers.  Also is long furred.
Feng Huang 
there is only one Feng Huang (Phoenix) however there are lesser breeds;
  Lava Cranes 
shaped like a crane, but their shaggy red fur and feathers seems to cover their bodies like dripping molten lava.  Lives in volcanic areas and feeds off molten beetles, which live in pools of lava
  Red Sparrows 
small versions of Feng Huang about the size of a normal sparrow, but with the stunning red plumage of its ancestor.  Has no abilities.
  Flame Wisps 
looks like a hummingbird, but has flame coloured wings.  Can actually spit burning fire embers when frightened.
Qilin 
more equine than feline in shape, it has a dragon like face and scales that run down its back.  It's main is multicoloured and it's tail short and curled towards its spine.  It is highly intelligent and cannot be tamed or ridden.  Solitary creature, does not run in herds.

And the reality is that I don't have time for that, I would prefer to focus on my other novels.

Hi there. I'm the author of this novel. Oh, Jesus, that feels so weird to say.

My idea is to have an original MC with his past memories and other MC or sidekick from earth to provide technology and good harmony of teamwork.

Anyway, I write in my free time. But I now intended to post 1 chapter per day.

Ultrix sat in his new dorm room still dazed at the number of resources the Academy was suddenly bestowing upon him.

His current dorm was leagues better than his old one and there were even silver tier guards standing guard outside the main gate.

Of course, all of this didn't belong to Ultrix. He was currently staying at a dormitory building that housed all of the special guests of the Academy and it's best students.

Looking through all the runic creation tools yet again, Ultrix ultimately decided to hold back from any testings and headed straight to the main library.

Ultrix realized that his current understanding of combustion was too fundamental so he wanted to read up on some more research before attempting any magic circles.

Looking through the titles, a book called 'Fundamentals of Magic' caught his eye.

It was a fairly thick book and skimming through it quickly, Ultrix found that it had a basic understanding of all types of magic circles with a guide on the most efficient and effective means of drawing them.

Putting aside the book for the time, Ultrix went through the titles again to pick out another book to read. Ultimately, his gaze was drawn towards a book titled 'Combustion Control'.

Ultrix took the book off of the shelf and began reading it as well. Whenever he ran across a method that was mentioned in the book that he was unfamiliar with, he referenced back to his other book on magic fundamentals to compare notes.

After reading for a couple of hours and memorizing a list of do's and don'ts of magic circle drawing, Ultrix decided it was time for him to start applying his knowledge to practical use.

Picking up a piece of dry wood, Ultrix started carving a basic combustion rune onto it.

After a few seconds of carving, the rune was complete.

At first, nothing happened and Ultrix thought with disappointment that he had failed his first attempt. However, after a few seconds, a few sparks shot outwards from the rune.

Ultrix was ecstatic! Although he had not managed to start a fire, he felt like this was a better improvement from his previous attempts before he had read anything.

Reading more on the runic uses and combustion efficiency guide, Ultrix took a piece of paper this time and drew a runic circle on it with flammable ink.

This time the reaction was a lot faster, and hardly after he had completed the circle, the paper ignited and shriveled up quite quickly.

While this was a lot faster than his previous attempt at starting a fire, Ultrix ultimately still felt like it was too slow. He yearned for a method of faster casting but did not know how to improve.

After scanning all of the contents in the library again, Ultrix was just about to give up for the day when a glint in the corner of the room caught his eye.

Walking over to examine the glint, Ultrix realized that it was a book on 'Instantaneous Castings'.

Confused on what 'instantaneous' meant, Ultrix tried to open the book and read it's contents.

However, to his surprise, the book could not be pried open. It was as if all the pages were glued together and formed a solid block.

Feeling quite curious at this point, Ultrix examined the book more closely. Looking at the bookbinding, Ultrix realized that there was a runic circle faintly inscribed into the string.

However, it was a runic pattern that Ultrix did not recognize.

Scanning through the library once again, Ultrix took out all the books he saw which had anything to do with magical paper and books.

At first, Ultrix skimmed through the books, but a few minutes in, he realized it would be even faster if he knew what he was looking for.

Looking back at the design of the runic circle, Ultrix realized that he had seen the format before in the fundamentals book.

Looking through the fundamentals book glossary, Ultrix noticed that there was a section on magic circle encryption that correlated to the magic circle that he saw on the other book.

Unfortunately, although the fundamentals book covered the different types of encryptions, it did not go into depth on all of the methods of unlocking said encryptions.

Looking back through the books on books and magic, Ultrix finally found a chapter on magic encryption.

It turns out, magic encryption was quite a common usage in the world of magic. However, this was confusing to Ultrix as for some reason he had never heard of this term before.

However, after much thought, Ultrix realized that it probably made sense that he would not have known about such a method. After all, the departments that he had learned from were more practical and not very scientific departments.

It would make sense for there to be encryptions required on more important data, but for magic users like Ultrix, such encryptions seemed impractical.

Reading through the book though, Ultrix realized that the process of encrypting a book was not too difficult to learn.

However, there were different tiers of encryption, just like how there were different affinity tiers. Unlike the affinity tiers though, which were separated into bronze, silver, and gold, the encryption tier was simply given numbers with higher numbers meaning higher difficulty.

Luckily for Ultrix, the book that he currently wanted to unlock was only at tier 3.

With the highest tier mentioned in the book being a tier 7, tier 3 was still a relatively simple encryption code.

Without further hesitation, Ultrix started unlocking the book bind.

The process of decrypting a tier 3 was quite simple. All it required Ultrix to do was to rotate the rings of the magic circle in a specific order until they all lined up with each other.

At first, Ultrix was not sure what the book meant with 'turning the circles'

However, after a bit of messing around, Ultrix realized that once a magic circle was put onto an object, it would hover slightly above the original surface almost like a liquid skims the surface that it is on.

Ultrix tried to spin the circles in different ways, but he quickly discovered that the order to unlock the rings could not be done through brute force.

Anyone who simply guesses the order of the rings would temporarily lock the entire rune and the rings would randomize themselves again with a new combination code.

Luckily for Ultrix, the book on encryptions was quite detailed and he slowly solved the algorithm by turning the runic circles.

After turning the final circle in the correct order, the magic circle finally dissipated.

Ultrix was not surprised at all that the circle dissipated. After all, most encryption locks that were tier 3 were one-time usage only.

Once they were broken they had to be redrawn.

Ultrix looked at the book in anticipation. Something that required a tier 3 encryption surely was quite valuable, right?

However, before Ultrix could open the book, he suddenly realized that a new encryption circle had appeared again.

Multi-level encryption? Ultrix thought to himself.

He was not too surprised at this either, the book had mentioned that a lot of magic users liked to use multiple levels of encryption to secure their work in the case that the previous runic circle was depleted of its energy.

Upon closer inspection of the encryption runic though, Ultrix's face turned dark.

"Crap!" He said out loud.

"It's a tier 5 encryption this time?!"

"To be in control of destiny is to understand the laws of nature and the course of human consciousness. To lose sight of consciousness is to fall into the absence of self-awareness and stray from the path of universal equilibrium."

"Did you get that, Ultrix? Or are you too busy setting the workshop on fire again?!"

This novel is for the Writing Contest 104.

Hello, everybody so this is my first time doing an online novel, and I'll go at my own pace for now. I won't be able to publish chapters everyday, sorry, since with school and having no home Internet will make it hard to post things. For now, I will concentrate on the first book (I guess you can call it). This will be about 20-30 chapters. I hope you like it and provide constructive criticisms as well as support. For my story, the glossary of characters will be after the chapters, and if people feel confused I will put one. The story will be alternating between different characters at times as well as flashback scenes. The characters will be in categories as follows:
A- the MCs
B- friends and family
C- occasionally characters
D- one time only characters
Certain things like what is an undead scavenger might also be there if needed.
Also since the story is sometimes dark and violent, please be warned. Personally, I do not condone violence in real life and hope you do not get offended. Also be warned corpse eaters have rotten personalities, so sorry about my mcs personality.

not much is known about them, they can't control the weave outside there body's but they accel in body strengthening runes.

Fairy's:
fairy's are 1 meter tall and look like humans beside there bee like wings they have hollow bones like birds. they only can use the light rune and have no free access to the weave but no one heales better than fairy's. Fairy's are rare to find after the moon plague 545FOE
and the fairy hunt 546FOE. 
sometimes fairy's are part of an symbiotic relationship with Insectoides 
there aren't any fairy kingdoms left and some people still treat fairy's racist because of the plague and the hunt.

Moon plague: 
the moon plague is a disease that affected a few of the Beastkin and the fairy folk it was a painful way to die because the plague would burn you from inside out.

fairy hunt:
the believer of the Goddess of Moon Queira 
saw the disease as sign of punishment for the sins the fairy's have committed, they hunted them like beasts and slaughtered all of the fairy's  that couldn't move, the only reason they haven't done this to the Beastkin is because some of them still weakened from the disease, could easily kill one human and injure the rest of them badly. 

the Beastkin:

the beastkin is a special race, 
the moon plays a big role for them at the moment of there birth,
the more the moon is to see, 
the more human features the child will have and the better there controll over the weave is, but the less it is to see the stronger the animal features will become and the stronger and faster they will be.
Beastkin often look like humans (depending on the time they were born) 
with animal features like deer antlers or cat ears sometimes the person won't look like a human and more like the animal in such a extent that they walk on all four limbs. beastkin have a strong instinct regarding the weave when someone uses magic in there vicinity they will know it.
