This is my first Novel. I hope to write something good, but you know I am new to this, so don't judge. 

Practice makes perfect

1. DO NOT CLEAN YOUR HOUSE ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE LUNAR NEW YEAR.
If you want to clean your house, do it before the first day of the Chinese New Year! Cleaning your house before the New Year will sweep away the bad luck of the past year and make your home ready for the good luck to come in.  You can hide the brooms and dustpans on the first day of the Lunar New Year after the cleaning so that good luck will settle in your home and make itself comfortable.
 
2.  I SEE RED.
Paint a new coat of red on your homes, door and window frames or place red decorations and paperhangers all over the house. Red is the most favourable colour of Feng Shui. It is a primary colour that symbolizes luck, protection, happiness, passion, courage and vitality--our blood's colour. Red carries the Fire Feng Shui element, and if it is balanced, it will bring joy, excitement, and strong sexual desire. If red decoration isn't your style, you can wear red occasionally, instead.
 
3. PURCHASE NEW CLOTHING.
Who doesn't want to own new, shiny things on the New Year? Purchasing new clothes and shoes indicate new beginnings. You don't have money to buy new ones? I don't believe you. It didn't have to be expensive. Just buy it to celebrate the New Year. If you don't want to, that's alright.  The Jade Emperor is not forcing anyone.
 
4.    CUT YOUR HAIR
I know you have been sporting that long messy hair until now ever since the quarantine started last year. If you want to cut your hair, don't do it during the New Year because it might give you bad luck due to the homonymic nature of the word "hair" (fa) and the word for "prosperity". In ancient times, hair was as highly valued as the body. Cutting your hair in the New Year is akin to cutting your prosperity. Go cut your hair before the New Year. You still have a week to do so.
 
5.    PAY YOUR DEBTS
If you are a decent human being with a conscience, please pay your debts on time. Don't pay your debts just because it is a New Year's tradition. The person to whom you borrowed might need the money so bad. Don't be an asshole and pay that debt or the monster 'Nian' might remember your face and attack you when you least expect it. Paying your debts before the New Year's Eve will give you good luck, extending into debts of gratitude. Send gifts and rice to your friends, business associates, and extended families while you are at it. (if you have the money, of course)
 
6.    EAT DUMPLINGS
These dumplings that resembled a Chinese 'sycee' were made after dinner to be eaten around midnight as part of Northern China's customs while the South makes glutinous new year cake as gifts for friends and relatives. It symbolizes wealth and good luck for the year ahead.
 
7.    DO NOT LIGHT A FIRE OR USE KNIVES ON NEW YEAR'S DAY
All food to be eaten for the New Year should be cooked days before. Lighting fires and using knives is bad luck. Curb your cooking urges on that fateful day. Thou shalt not cook.
 
8.    IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYONE TO THROW THAT EXTRA BILLS TO, HIRE A DANCER
Please don't get the wrong idea. Some families may invite a dragon dance troupe to perform in front of their homes as a symbolic ritual to usher in the Chinese New Year and evict bad spirits from the premises.
 
9.    LUCKY COLORS OF 2021 (YEAR OF THE METAL OX)
According to Feng Shui, White, Yellow, and Green will attract prosperity and success. Wear metal accessories everywhere you go while you are it. I swear bad luck would run and avoid you like it had seen a ghost every time you exit the four corners of your room and go outdoors.
 
10.  PHOENIXES AND OXEN
What lucky figurines do you have to display in your house? Phoenixes in red and gold ( symbols of death and renewal and the ability to rise against all odds) and images and figurines of oxen (symbols of strength, determination, hard-work, discipline and action) It is favourable to display arts and figurines of the year's animal sign in your home. You could also choose to display an image of your personal Chinese astrology sign in your residence. Surround the figurines with other prosperity symbols, and you will be alright.
 
11.  SNAKE PLANTS
Snake Plants can bring life and vitality into your home to protect your environment's good energy by detoxifying the air. It didn't need a lot of attention as other plants do. The long sword-shaped leaves could cut through the negativity in your residence with much gusto. You just have to water it occasionally but don't forget its existence. Snake plants need some love too.

Wei Huo saw an altar after bumping his head into the wall. There were stone statues on the four corners of the altar. The statues were respectively the Azure Dragon, the White Tiger, the Vermillion Bird, and the Black Tortoise[1]. The statues looked very realistic. They guarded the place, giving the altar a solemn and dignified aura. It filled people with a sense of awe.
Wei Huo walked onto the steps gradually and solemnly. He moved vigilantly forward to the altar step by step. He was afraid there would be hidden traps in the altar. Surprisingly, when Wei Huo arrived at the top of the altar, he discovered a game console.
Wei Huo was confused. "???"
Why was there a game console in such a solemn and dignified altar?
Wei Huo walked closer. 'F*ck, it is the Subor game console[2]."
The game console was connected to a CRT television[3]. The image displayed on the screen was very clear.
Wei Huo looked at the television screen. A tank and familiar sound effects greeted him.
Wei Huo was left speechless.
Could it be… Battle City[4]?
Wei Huo instantly knew that he was going to nail it, seeing that minigame. Somehow, players were always required to play classic minigames at caves that hold heritages, and the scores from the minigame would determine the completion rate of the inherited Cultivation Skill.
Wei Huo walked over, sat down, and grabbed the video game controller.
He then tapped on the game start button. Just as expected, the screen of the game started to change. The classic first level scene in Battle City came into his view.
Wei Huo was confused as he noticed the game contents were in Chinese.
'Was God from the Z Country? Or did the system have an automatic translation function to allow people from any country and even any kind of creature, to understand the game's content?'
Otherwise, how did the Demonic Ant Warlock obtain the heritage there?
Wei Huo thought to himself, 'I obtained the Qi energy heritage because I'm a citizen of Z Country. If that was the case, could people from foreign countries obtain the Dou Qi heritage and the Magic heritage? Could it be that the reason those Demonic Ants had obtained the Qi heritage was that they had traveled across the Z Country?'
Wei Huo started playing the game. He had to familiarize himself with the operation of the game as he had not played that game for a long time. After that, he began to kill from all directions with his terrifying quick reaction ability.
After passing the first level, Wei Huo saw that he still had two lives. However, he felt that he did not need a second life at all.
With Wei Huo's reaction speed, the game was a piece of cake for him.
"This is just a child's play for me!" Wei Huo scoffed as he reached level nine.
As he finished his sentence, an airplane that could fly freely without being limited by the game's landscape suddenly appeared on the map.
Wei Huo was confused. "???"
'Why did an airplane appear in Battle City?'
Wei Huo immediately became serious and shot down all the airplanes. When he reached level 18, artillery soldiers carrying rocket launchers appeared on the map. Wei Huo had to control the tank and shoot down those rocket-assisted projectiles. Otherwise, his base would have been bombed.
Wei Huo worked hard and finally reached level 27. At level 27, oceans, warships, aircraft carriers, countless artillery shells, missiles and airplanes, appeared on the map and charged towards Wei Huo's base.
Wei Huo was bewildered. 'Was this really motherf*cking Battle City?'
At level 36, aliens appeared with countless oval-shaped spaceships attacking Wei Huo. They could even discharge lasers.
Wei Huo understood at that moment. It seemed like special freaky enemies would be added every time players successfully passed nine levels.
Wei Huo felt strange the more he played the game. Was this really not 'The Rebirth of Battle City Fighting Against The Whole Universe' game?
Wei Huo's enemy turned into robots when he reached level 81.
Wei Huo was speechless since even Transformers[5] appeared now! This was no longer Battle City anymore!
However, level 81 was the last level. There were no further levels after that. Wei Huo finally cleared all the levels!
Wei Huo let out a deep breath when he saw that he cleared all the levels. He wiped the sweat on his forehead. "Phew, that was not easy. This kind of game was a bit too difficult, wasn't it?"
As Wei Huo stood up, the altar started to emit a faint light. The faint light soon disappeared, and those four statues suddenly started moving. The Azure Dragon stretched its body and caused green trees to appear on its back. The White Tiger roared and its color turned to gold. The Vermillion Bird spread its wings as flames started burning on its body. The Black Tortoise stamped on the ground while the attached snake lifted its head, oozing a cold breath.
Although Wei Huo had not read a lot, he knew that the Azure Dragon represented wood, the White Tiger represented metal, the Vermillion Bird represented fire, and the Black Tortoise represented water.
Wei Huo understood the meaning when he saw those Four Symbols transformed. It meant that he had to choose one of the four statues.
If he chose the Azure Dragon, he might be able to increase his lifespan greatly, regain his HP rapidly, and obtain the cultivation skill to control plants. If he chose the White Tiger, he might be able to improve his strength, destructive power, and obtain the cultivation skill to control metal. Choosing the Vermillion Bird meant he could control fire, and choosing the Black Tortoise meant he would be controlling water.
Wei Huo started debating among those four options. 'I'm suffering from decision paralysis now!'
The four options were very tempting…
However, being Descendants of the Dragon, choosing the Azure Dragon Cultivation Skill would be a better choice. Also, God had added the patch 'Dragon-type monsters added' a long time ago. In other words, dragon creatures had already existed in this world. The power of dragons was indubitable. Although Wei Huo had yet to come across a real dragon, he thought that it was just a matter of time. He could even cotton up to the dragons if he had chosen the Azure Dragon heritage.
Hence, Wei Huo had decided to choose the Azure Dragon heritage!
An option popped up as Wei Huo walked up to the Azure Dragon statue. 'Do You Wish To Choose The Longevity Skill?'
Wei Huo was dumbstruck. "???"
'Why is it Longevity Skill? Wasn't it supposed to be the Azure Dragon's heritage?'
Wei Huo walked up to the Vermillion Bird statue and the option turned out to be, 'Do You Wish To Choose The Fiery Palm?'
The option for the White Tiger was, 'Do You Wish To Choose The Vajra Body Defending Divine Skill?'
Lastly, the option for the Black Tortoise was, 'Do You Wish To Choose The Ice Soul Divine Skill?"
Wei Huo was left speechless.
'I understand now! These statues were just for decoration! Why would the Four Symbols pass down their heritage to a human?'
Wei Huo walked up to the Azure Dragon statue and decided to choose the Longevity Skill. After all, he had not needed other cultivation skills with his current strength and his God of Thunder Skill.
However, longevity was a desire that every creature could not give up. Wei Huo decided to follow his desire and had chosen the Longevity Skill.
Of course, another main reason for choosing the skill was because there were still many caves in the world. Only with a sufficiently long lifespan could he search for more caves. Under the circumstances that he could only choose one from the four options, it was better to choose the Longevity Skill.
When Wei Huo had chosen Longevity Skill, another option popped up before his eyes. 'This site is a cultivation resources spot that will boost the Player's cultivation speed by 15%. However, it would cost 30 Magical Stones per day as a rental fee. The Player can only cultivate at this site for 3,650 days."
Wei Huo's eyes shone brightly but he frowned after a few moments. '3,650 days is equivalent to 10 years. I will not misspend these 10 years!'

Wei Huo has been ignored and overlooked by almost everyone his entire life, including God. In a bid to transform the world into a more game-like one, God halted time for all humanity except for Wei Huo, leaving him to fend for himself. The teenager has no choice but to strive for survival whilst waiting for the day humanity’s clock to start ticking again. But wait a minute! What if that wait is longer than a person’s lifespan? Follow Wei Huo on his survival journey in a world infested with mutated beasts and carnivorous plants.


"Just like how both Heaven and Nature have imperfections, the human body too, has its faults. This magic spell will enable you to absorb energy from Heaven and Nature to replenish your strength," chanted the man who was sitting on the platform out loud.

Ji Hao looked up at the blurry figure, who was a gigantic man and seemed to be even a hundred times bigger than the Gold Black Mountain. Ji Hao had been aware of his existence in his spiritual space since the day he was born. However, even after trying his best for the past ten years, he was still unable to see the man's appearance clearly.

The man's dark glossy hair and long beard which were fluttering seemed miraculous and mysterious.

His entire upper body laid bare; a simple apron made from a huge blade wrapped around his waist was the only piece of 'clothing' he had on.

For a decade, this man had wanted to make a deal with Ji Hao, but Ji Hao had always refused to do so. This time, however, Ji Hao and his family were under a great deal of pressure from Ji Shu and his son, so he had to take this risk.

When the man spoke, the sound of raging thunder accompanied his voice. A large number of ancient multicolored symbols that glowed, continuously emerged and floated around his body. These symbols looked like birds, fishes, flowers and insects. It seemed inexpressibly mysterious.

Immediately after the man stopped chanting, all the colorful symbols rushed simultaneously towards Ji Hao and integrated peacefully with his body.

Meanwhile, Ji Hao sensed a jolt coming from his soul; all his knowledge of the [Mantra Dan with Nine Secret Words] had somehow been copied by the man. Around the man's body, nine huge balls of light appeared and floated in a circle; each of them had an intense radiance which could be compared to the sun.

Not long after, the light balls merged with the man's body. The merging process shook the man's body slightly, which caused a rainstorm inside Ji Hao's spiritual space. The torrential rain came with lightning and thunder. Ji Hao lowered his head and shivered.

"So amazing!" exclaimed the man.

 "Little guy, your [Mantra Dan with Nine Secret Words] is actually capable of improving the soul and using the power of the universe. This is truly mysterious and amazing; I had never thought that in this world, there existed a magic spell as powerful as this."

After hesitating for a moment, he lowered his voice and continued, "If I had known this magic spell earlier, I might have been able to understand and utilize my strength more effectively. I wouldn't have ended being such a loser, who doesn't even has the guts to face the world . . . ."  

Ji Hao felt dizzy after integrating with those ancient symbols. His mind and soul were filled with a vast amount of information. He was merely a Novice Magus of the third level, his internal power was far from sufficient to cope with the tremendous amount of information in such a small period of time.

The [Bu Tian Bu Lou Magic Spell] involuntarily activated before he could even connect with his internal power. All his blood and power rushed towards his abdomen, where his lower dantian[1] existed. His blood and power started to rotate, forming a small whirlpool. Ji Hao could sense a small, yet strong power coming from the whirlpool. 

Suddenly a tiny, multicoloured flame bursted out from the whirlpool and several multicoloured symbols flashed momentarily, after which the flame disappeared.

According to the information he had received, this occurrence signified the first step of the [Bu Tian Bu Lou Magic Spell]. The first stage of the spell had the following effects. Firstly, ninety-nine percent of the life energy that his food contained would serve as nourishment for the flame inside his body; secondly, the remaining one percent would nourish his internal power, increasing his own strength.

Even though it was only the first stage of the spell, it made Ji Hao realize how strong and beneficial this spell really was. The first stage enabled him to increase his internal power through devouring. For example, if he could devour a hundred dragons, he would receive the power of one dragon.

"Hey, does this mean I am going to be a glutton?"

While Ji Hao was surprised by the effect of the spell, he whined loudly: "Old man, you want me to devour the entire mountain? How does this work? Does it really mean that as long I am not tired, I can keep devouring endlessly?"

"The more you devour, the stronger you will get!" laughed the man. 

With a wave of his hand, two human-head sized drops of blood appeared out of thin air and floated towards Ji Hao.

One drop of blood had a golden glow and the other, a purple-colored glow. The golden blood radiated pride and power, while the purple-colored blood radiated mystery and nobility. From the moment these blood drops appeared, Ji Hao could feel his body getting excited, as if it couldn't wait to merge with those drops of blood.

The man looked down and said, "Little guy, I won't take advantage of you.

"This is something extra that I gift unto you. A drop of dragon blood and a drop of phoenix blood. They won't only be beneficial at present, even in the future you will be reaping great benefits from them."

The two drops of blood exploded, transforming into gold and purple mist, respectively, and were absorbed by Ji Hao's body.

Ji Hao' body felt as if it was set ablaze, like his blood could boil and evaporate at any moment. It was so painful that he couldn't remain in his spiritual space and was forced to return to his physical body. He had to spend great effort to keep his muscles under control, to avoid crying and screaming from the pain.

On his lean and slim body, fibers of muscles squirmed under his skin. His muscles and bones splintered and reorganized, becoming stronger.

Dragons[2] were born as the most powerful creatures in the world. A newly born pureblood-dragon was strong enough to go one-on-one against a Supreme Magus.

The golden dragon blood completely remodeled Ji Hao's body, making it a perfect human body.

At the same time he sensed a warm stream continuously rushing into his soul, gradually making it stronger and pure.

Phoenixes[3], however, were born with the purest of souls in the world, making every phoenix a master in magic manipulation. The purple-colored phoenix blood purified Ji Hao's soul and laid the perfect foundation for his future training.

The colorful flames rushed towards Ji Hao's dantian, surprising him by the enormous improvement of his body and soul.

Hunger. . . . 

Ji Hao sensed a feeling of overwhelming hunger, which made him almost scream in agony. It felt like there was a black hole in his stomach, crazily devouring his muscles and flesh. 

Ji Hao jumped out of his window, hung his arms onto the framework of the roof and easily landed in the hall downstairs.

Around the fireplace in the hall, twenty pieces of beast meat were hanging and being roasted. A thick layer of a salt-oil-mixed sauce was spread onto the meat.

Ji Hao grabbed the leg of a saber tooth tiger and took a bite.

With a gentle bite, the human-waist thick leg broke into two. With just a few bites, Ji Hao completely gobbled up the entire leg piece.

After having eaten the leg, he felt a powerful stream of heat rushing into the multicolored flame placed in his lower dantian. A small portion of the multicolored flame was absorbed by his body, which felt extremely pleasurable all over his body.

Ji Hao ate the entire stock of twenty pieces of meat that were hanging there and being roasted. Suddenly he heard a muffled sound of an explosion inside his body, after which he abruptly grew about half of an inch as his muscles swelled at the same time. 

Ji Hao felt a strong sense of power rushing through his body and was ecstatic.

"Novice Magus. . . . Fourth Level!"

Long ago, there were people who stood upon the earth with their heads held high. They never bowed to anyone because of their indomitable spirit. They were capable of controlling wind and lightning, and conquering dragons and serpents. They seemed strong enough to split the earth and shatter the stars with their fists. They traveled throughout the land and called themselves Magi. Eventually, one of them would become a Supreme Magus! These men are the ancestors of human beings. Their blood is what we all share today.

Qing Long is the former strongest man in the world. He traveled through space and time and was reborn as Ji Hao in the Fire Crow Clan of the Southern Wasteland. It’s a complicated world. Forces from both inside and outside of the clan want this young and talented boy to die. Under great pressure, Ji Hao makes a deal with a mysterious man, who resides in his spiritual space, never showing his real face. He gains two drops of blood from a dragon and phoenix. Afterwards, Ji Hao becomes increasingly more powerful.

+ From ancient Greek myths to Game of Thrones, the legend of the dragon is one of the most enduring and romanticized throughout history. It has been traced back as far as 4000 BC and exists in all parts of the world. In and around Europe dragons are viewed mostly as monsters of evil intent. In ancient Rome, the army used dragons as symbols of strength. During the Renaissance, fear of sea monsters kept sailors from venturing too far from known waters, and the edges of their maps would read "Here be dragons."


+ The etymology of the word dragon, which it says entered the English lexicon in around 1220 and was used in English versions of the Bible from the early 14th century. Dragon derives from Old French, the language used by nobles and law courts following the Norman conquest of 1066. This, in turn, stems from the Latin draconem or Draco meaning "big serpent," which was derived from ancient Greek δράκων (drakon).


+ In Greek mythology, the Hesperian Dragon named Ladon was a hundred-headed serpent that guarded the golden apples in the garden of the Hesperides. Historically, European dragons were viewed as being evil, jealous, and greedy hoarders of treasure. In the stories, they were generally treated as violent monsters who must be slain by heroes and saints. European dragons could have four legs, two legs, or none, and often had wings.


+ In Asia, and especially China, the view of these creatures was very different. Dragons were thought to live under the ocean in the winter, arising in the spring with a clap of thunder to bring the rain needed for their crops, according to the American Museum of Natural History. They breathed clouds and moved the seasons. The dragon was the symbol of the Chinese Emperor, and the Imperial throne was called the Dragon Throne. Known as the Dragon, the emperor ruled in harmony and brought peace and prosperity to all.


+ Chinese dragons are depicted as being more serpent-like, with long, snaking bodies and usually had four legs. They are generally seen as wingless. How people view them and what they believe about them varies widely, but the idea is too widespread not to think there are some common roots.


+ Ancient Origins discusses a number of potential roots. The first one is crocodiles. Saltwater and Nile crocodiles are the two largest living reptiles on earth today. Currently, saltwater crocodiles live in the eastern Indian Ocean region, and Nile crocs in the rivers, marshes, and lakes of Sub-Saharan Africa. But 1,000 years they had a much larger habitat range and could have been encountered by people living in Greece, Spain, and Southern Italy.

+ Dragons appear in the mythology of many ancient cultures but nowhere else in the world was the creature quite so revered as in China. There, in marked contrast to other world mythologies, the dragon was almost always seen in a positive light and particularly associated with life-giving rains and water sources. They are famous for their goodness and to ward off evil, protect the innocent and bring safety to all. Tradition and celebration of New Year in China can be traced to a dragon named Nien (or "year").


+ Nien was a legendary wild beast that attacked people at the end of the old year. The reason why Vikings built ships with huge dragonheads was that they wanted to appear as frightening as possible from a long distance. Vikings called their longships "Drakkar" or dragon ships and the dragon was a powerful and fearsome symbol of war.


+ Many have seen the Welsh flag features a red dragon and that the Prince of Wales uses rampant dragons on his banner. The old British word "draig," meant leader, and the word, "pen," meant head. The two words combined to form Pendragon or Pen Draig, a noble surname in early Britain as early as the fifth century. The dragon symbol continued to be used by the last native Welsh princes of Wales, Llewelyn ap Gruffydd, and Owain Glyndwr, during their struggles against English occupation in the 14th and 15th centuries.

At midnight on New Year's Eve some people like to go to large squares or temples where huge bells are rung. In recent years people have begun to go to mountain temples to wait for the first ringing of a bell in the New Year.
