Thus, Zhao Youyue could sacrifice that card when its timer almost expired, so that she could enter a selected literary world of equivalent energy level, or a random world of higher energy level.
This is the major difference between iconic character card and high popularity character card, she would not feel any heartache or regret when sacrificing an almost-expired high popularity card. But never would she sacrifice any iconic character card of unlimited usage.
Of course, creating a high popularity character card was much easier than creating an "iconic character card". An iconic character must be one that emerges from a unique work. Just like "Pure Romance", people might recreate something similar but the popularity would never parallel the previous, it could even be neglected.
"The Strongest King" was certainly one of a kind too, Rosemary might still be able to create a new novel with higher standards in the Esports genre. Only time will tell.
To mold a "high popularity character", it only required Zhao Youyue to enter a literary world of decent popularity. She would then create a genuine character according to the work's background and settings. That character would appear to be more lively to the readers in reality. Ning Que did not open the book but stared at the paper, perturbed. Meanwhile, his thoughts had flown out of the window and to another place, thinking about how he could look at the words while ignoring the meaning.

Each dot and stroke had it's own meaning and the eight strokes in "yong" made up the eight laws.

It was lucky that Ning Que had practiced calligraphy tirelessly for almost twenty years. Deconstructing characters was an innate skill to him. Every calligrapher had to be able to reconstruct characters in order to write every character well. He was now forcefully cutting off the last and most important part of calligraphy in his brain. Should his mind attempt to reconstruct those characters, the character for "Yong" will make itself useful. He will think of the word as "Yong" automatically and not part of the character for "The"!
It was difficult, even for him, to think of fiction as reality. At this point of time, he has gathered all his energy. The hands holding the book was shaking slightly. The back of his school robes was damp with sweat. His eyelashes were fluttering wildly while his lips were pursed tightly, just like the first time he attempted calligraphy as a child.
The words no longer blurred and shook his mind up violently as they entered his eyes today. Instead, they presented themselves clearly in his sight and were quietly tamed like a leaf floating upon a still lake.
Ning Que had forgotten how these words had tortured him, but was looking at the strokes in silence. He looked at the various strokes that made up the character and felt as if he could see through the surface of the lake accompanied by a gentle breeze. The leaves were floating towards the east, towards the west, to somewhere far away or close to him.
There were no strong winds and waves nor thunderstorms. Neither were there a pack of wolves gathering on the grasslands. He basked in the warm afternoon sun, eyes lightly hooded as he sat on the floors at the shelves. His hands were no longer shaking and his taut body and pursed lips loosened. He did not faint nor vomit. All was calm.
The beginning of a breeze and the end of one was always gentle. Outside, the insects sang their happy song once more, celebrating the blissful spring day, celebrating the curious world before their eyes. The gentle spring breeze enveloped their songs and brought them with it into the windows, into the building and onto the lad within. It fluttered his robes, like an unseen power rushing over him.
The wind flushed around the front of his school robes, turning back as it flitted onto a certain part of his chest like the spring breeze dancing upon the slight waves of the lake. Pushing the leaves on the surface towards all different directions, they eventually touched the stone ends of the lake before turning back. It could neither reach the shore nor tear away from it.
The female instructor at the eastern window seemed to have felt something. Her brows gathered and she tilted her face upwards, listening to the songs of the insects outside and the movements of the spring breeze. She turned to the lad at the western windows and smiled gently.
To rest…
Ning Que looked at the character for rest and was distracted for a moment. His gaze left the book subconsciously and the entire character floated in his face, into his eyes. There was a splash, like a naughty child shepherd throwing a rock into the lake, causing the water to well up, shaking the leaves. There was a buzz in his mind before he was startled back into consciousness.
While he had experienced this many times, the character for "rest" had made a large impact on his mindscape. He harrumphed discontentedly and lifted himself off the floor with his right hand. He turned his pale face away forcefully, not daring to look at any character on the book.
Even so, there was a smile that cannot be suppressed on his pale white face. He knew that he'd seen the doorway. While the message leaver had not intended to open the door, at least he had not fainted after opening it. He also had a niggling feeling that should he continue reading using this method, it’d be beneficial to his art of calligraphy, no matter whether he could catch a glimpse of the wonders of cultivation.
He was in no hurry to stand up, but sat cross legged under the rays of the sun. He closed his eyes and reflected on the feeling he had previously, searching for the strokes in the depths of his mind, the scattered leaves on the lake.

After you confirm what genre and topic you wish to write about, it's now time for you as an author to design your settings and write the overall planned outline for your plot. As for why I'm putting these two elements together, that's because these two elements are deeply interconnected and inseparable.
 
When you're writing the overall outline, this is basically coming up with the story's plot. As you write the outline, what you're actually doing is fleshing out the details for your setting.
 
When you're writing a story, of course, you need to first consider where your story will happen, when it happens, who it happens to, and what type of person it happens to. As the story progresses, you also need to consider who the main character will meet in the story, what time and place he or she meets them at, along with who's stronger and who's weaker than the main character…
 
This is why by the time that you're finished with your overall outline, the world's background, various factions, levels, special abilities, treasures, all the important characters… and such settings will be naturally completed during the course of outlining.
 
The reverse is true as well. If you first work on designing the detailed settings instead, then you'll basically end up with an outline for the story's plot and how the main character grows over the story as well.
 
Of course, there's still some differences depending on which angle you start from. However, newcomer authors like you don't need to worry about this. You can simply create based on your personality and whatever you prefer. It doesn't matter whether you start from the settings or the outline. You can even do both at the same time.
 
For newcomer authors like you, there's only five points that are critically important for you to understand.
 
1.      Having an overall outline isn't absolutely necessary, but having one is always better than not having one
 
Theoretically speaking, even if you didn't prepare an overall outline, it might not affect the progress of you writing your novel at all. There are some authors out there that simply write whatever comes into their mind and go with the flow.
 
Of course, this is all just a best-case scenario in theory. For the great majority of authors out there, once your story's plot exceeds your planned outline... 

Your outline will help your story stay on track in the early stages, but once you reach the mid and late stages, all sorts of problems often appear, such as too many plotlines all at once, self-contradictory plotlines, or writer's block…
 
At such a time, authors will typically regret not creating a more detailed outline, but it's already too late now. Actually, overall outlines have more uses than you think.
 
Since webnovels are typically longer than normal novels, they take much longer to write as well. Typically, it takes an average author several months or even longer to finish writing everything in their overall outline. By the time that they're finish writing everything in their overall outline, most authors will have new ideas and insights into what they want to write. Once they combine their new ideas with their original outline, in a way, this gives them two sources of inspiration. It's basically the equivalent of two people working together, and on top of that, these two people know exactly what each other are thinking.
 
It's easy to see how this can be helpful in improving the quality of your novel.
 
Apart from this, while creating an overall outline, the author can also discover many topics or problems with the settings and correct them in time.
 
To give an extreme example, if you're having a great difficulty with writing your overall outline and don't know what to do with your own plot, this proves that there's a large problem with your plot. You should either make major changes, or delete this part of your plot entirely.
 
So, newcomer authors definitely shouldn't overlook the uses of having an overall outline. No matter if you have a good or bad outline, a simple or a detailed one, as long as you have one, that's good.
 
What needs to be noted is that only outlines that have been written out truly count as outlines.
 
Even if you as an author have a very detailed outline, and even if you've solidly memorized every single plot point in your outline, any outline that hasn't been written into your novel doesn't count as a true outline. That's because when you actually start writing, you'll discover that what you finally end up writing will always have differences from what you envisioned.
 
2.      You need to finish your outline, but it doesn't need to be complete
 
Thinking about your outline is equivalent to thinking about your novel's plot. You need to consider both the beginning and the end. You also need to think about everything that the main character experiences from the beginning to the end of the story.
 
If your outline isn't finished, but only half-finished, you won't even be able to predict the storylines that come later, which will cause you to have difficulties writing your plot once you finish the beginning stages. This is basically the same as not having an outline at all.
 
Still, there's no need for us to make the outline as detailed as possible from the very beginning, with so many specific scenarios for all your plots. The reason for this is quite simple—none of us know just how long our novels will turn out to be in the end.
 
A story that's written with the intent of becoming a commercial product needs to be sufficiently long enough right from the planning stage. The longer your potential story, the better. But actually, how many words it finally ends up with depends on how well your story performs.
 
If your story is incredibly popular and performs well in the market, then we can consider writing it for as long as possible. However, if your story obviously isn't popular with readers, then you can consider ending your story in a timely fashion at an appropriate point in the plot so that you can think of a new story instead. That would be a wiser decision if you wish to become a professional author.
 
Of course, when you're only in the outlining stage, it's impossible for you as a newcomer author to know how readers will react to your novel. Precisely because of this, you need to have a flexible writing plan. What this means is that you should have an outline that's detailed in the beginning and general near the end. For the beginning of your story, you should have as detailed an outline as possible, while for the middle and especially the later parts of your story, you only need some general ideas. All you need is to consider the overall development of the plot so that you know what direction to take your storyline in.
 
For example, maybe you planned that the beginning of your novel will be approximately 80,000 words, and you've prepared a 4,000-word outline for just the beginning. In that case, your outline for the next 80,000 words, the middle of your story, might only need 3000 words, and the meat of your story, another 240,000 words, might have an outline that's less than 1000 words.
 
Of course, as you continue writing your story, you should constantly update your outline as well. You should complete your outline for the next 80,000 words before you finish writing the first 80,000 words.
 
3.      Your settings need to be constantly updated

Just like writing an outline, you should first come up with the basic settings before you even begin writing, which includes your world background, main character's personality, power levels, and so on.
 
More specific settings, such as a powerful artifact that appears in the story, can be added as you write your story.
 
Unlike an outline, you don't need to fully plan out all of your settings at the very beginning. It's perfectly acceptable to think of new settings while you're writing.
 
However, newcomer authors need to note that while it's okay to come up with new settings as you write, you should write these settings down and add them to your outline or settings document as you write.
 
This is to help yourself check your own settings later in the future. Otherwise, a novel that reached over one million words and has lasted for one year or longer might cause you as an author to completely forget about something you wrote before in the past. It's even quite common to make a mistake when writing about the items that the main character possesses. Yet, there will always be a sharp-eyed reader or two that catches the author out in a misstep.
 
If you have a very detailed document on your settings, not only will you be able to greatly reduce your own plot continuity errors, you'll also be able to look through your settings whenever you have writer's block and find some inspiration in a side character that you have already forgotten about or some item that was mentioned before but never used again.
 
4.      It's better for your settings to be cliché
 
Here, this means the systems and names that you use for your settings. For example, the names and levels you use for a martial arts society.
 
Many newcomer authors will mistakenly think that using already existing well-known settings will make their novel seem too cliché, causing them to want to be as "unique" as possible. These authors will use their imaginations to come up with all sorts of fictional vocabulary words, which in their minds will make their novels "stand out." These newcomer authors don't realize that this is the worst possible way to write a novel. In the great majority of situations, this will have the opposite effect from intended.
 
A new original novel that you write should be a new interpretation or story about some specific genre or story type. How to make your novel stand out depends on the conflicts you create in your story and how the main character resolves them. As for coming up with new vocabulary words and names for your novel, even if you make them sound really cool, or make some modified slang words, it's almost never a good thing for you.
 
The reason for this can also be understood in my article about how to write the beginning of your story. By doing so, the author is placing more burden upon the readers to understand a larger amount of information.
 
There will always be other already existing words that you could have used, which are easily understood by all your readers. Instead, your readers now need to spend their time and effort on reading your explanations. Obviously, readers aren't here to read your technical manuals or info dumps. The more explanations that you have in your novel, the lower your novel's appeal and flow will become. But, if you don't add any explanations for your self-created words at all, the readers won't even understand what's going on.
 
This is why newcomer authors should avoid this useless type of "creativity" as much as possible. You should simply rely on settings that all readers are familiar with instead.
 
5.      The storyline should be pushed forward by using conflicts
 
Many newcomer authors will often develop writer's block when planning their outline or working on their novel.
 
Sometimes, this is because the author has made their storyline too messy. But most of the time, it's because the author feels like there's nothing to write about, or doesn't know what they should make the main character do. The author has no idea how to continue their own story.
 
In order to deal with writer's block, or in other words, how to push your storyline alone, the answer is actually incredibly simple.
 
You can answer this question using only one word – Conflicts!
 
Actually, the critical element of all webnovels can be summed up into one word – conflicts. For example, leveling is the desire or need of the main character to become stronger, which is a conflict between the main character and his or her own current weakness.
 
And since there is a conflict, you must resolve the conflict. And so, your main character wants to cultivate to become stronger, which means he needs to travel around the world in order to find cultivation methods…
 
All sorts of conflicts will both push forward your storyline as well as create numerous climaxes for your readers. It can be said that how you design your conflicts is the very foundation of writing any novel, not just a webnovel.
 
As for a more detailed analysis on how to design your story's conflicts, please read my intermediate-level article on the topic. For newcomer authors like you, you simply need to understand this concept, and know that you should keep coming up with new conflicts whenever you're having trouble keeping up with your own storyline. Try finding potential conflicts from plots, characters, and items you've already used, or forcefully introduce a new element into your story that creates a new conflict.
 
This can be said to be one of the most basic techniques of planning your storyline.

But obviously, Kento Nara did not know about that. "Loading File of Tokyo" was actually a novel with a similar character who gradually improved his skills. The main character became more mature, with his personality changing every time he died. Was it not odious, equivalent to hitting someone in the face every time the main character got resurrected after his death and would come back to take revenge?
This was one of the reasons why "Loading File of Tokyo" was so popular. The readers had come across many similarly weak main characters who set off their primordial energy with their passion. When they looked back at the main character in "Loading File of Tokyo," they were amazed that there was finally a novel where the main character was of average intellect, not holier-than-thou or promiscuous.
"It's finally updated!" Kento Nara let out a sigh of relief when he clicked into the light novel website. Miss Gentera had taken leave for almost a week, but none of the readers complained about it. After all, Miss Gentera used to write 10,000 words a day, with the readers absolutely overwhelmed by her amazing typing speed. Some novelists could not even publish two volumes of a novel in a year.
What about Miss Gentera? Her third volume was ending soon, and she was about to start on the fourth volume.
How long has it been? It's been barely even a month now.
She has written 300,000 words in one month.
It would be an intolerable injustice if this book were not a hit.
Of course, "Loading File of Tokyo" won by its quality. With such good quality and quantity, this light novel was totally incomparable. It could easily defeat the other light novels.

In that case, even though it was only a light novel, the public would be very impressed by it. It could even raise various discussions about pertinent topics in societies, elevating it to become a phenomenal light novel.
The main character had become distorted now, he was extremely savage even when he was facing the police. All he could feel was dismay.
The ability to load files was fascinating, but it drove Manatsu Hokuto, the main character, crazy. Occasionally, Chiba Shiori would describe Manatsu Hokuto's mental instability through his suicidal ideations. 
Manatsu Hokuto's experience was very well depicted by Chiba Shiori. Many readers shared the same feelings when they put themselves in his shoes.
Thus... If Manatsu Hokuto, the main character, carries the same antisocial personality in the future chapters, perhaps the readers will feel awfully bad.
Kento Nara continued reading with this thought in mind.

"So, the Main Character that I was searching for the entire time was supposed to be my other half," Alec said dryly, almost absently. "Why me? Why am I being attached to another Main Character when I'm not a Main Character myself?" Alec said, like he was talking to himself.
System No.00110399 rolled his eyes so hard that he could practically feel an incoming headache. The way Alec was talking, it was like he was asking a rhetorical question that he didn't want answered. "Do you even listen to yourself talk? Why *else*?"
Alec fell silent.
The System snorted. "Don't think you're fooling me by trying to deny it. Your EQ might be on the lower end of the spectrum, but your IQ definitely isn't low. The only reason why you aren't making the connection is because you don't want to admit it. Even if it's only to yourself."
System No.00110399 crossed his arms when he saw that Alec still refused to acknowledge his words.
"I'm not."
System No.00110399 sighed loudly. "You *are* a Main Character, whether you admit it or not," System No.00110399 said seriously. "It doesn't matter even if you want to deny it. You aren't *just* a System. You're a Main Character. Especially now that your link with the Mainframe is broken."
Alec wanted to deny his friend's words very badly, but he for some reason, he couldn't open his mouth to give words to the thoughts that swirled around in his brain. It was like the words stuck themselves in his throat and refused to come out.
Maybe it was because deep down, he knew that the other was right.
It had been something that he'd been avoiding, whether it was subconsciously or not.
How could he, a System, be a Main Character?
That had to be some sort of cosmic joke that the damn Mainframe was playing on him.
In actual fact, the first time he saw that his [Main Character Page] contained a list of all the Neils he'd grown up with, he already had a faint inkling, but he always shoved that voice deeper down to avoid thinking about it.
However, now that System No.00110399 had thrown the facts into his face, it wasn't so easy to avoid.
System No.00110399 hid the sigh in his heart when he saw that Alec was still silent.
It wasn't like he didn't understand that Alec never wanted to be a Main Character.
Though he still didn't understand the other's aversion towards them, Alec now has Main Character friends, doesn't he?
So, he liked them enough to continue keeping them as friends, but he himself didn't want to be a Main Character?
"Ye Sha," System No.00110399 said instead. "My name from my previous life. You can call me that."
"Ye Sha," Alec said slowly. "It suits you."
Ye Sha smirked. "Of course. Anyway, I'll walk you through it. Don't say anything. Just listen to me. You say you're not a Main Character, but how true can that be? This body was destined to be a Main Character from the start. Even before you were sent to it by the Mainframe, there was already a system attached to the body.
Think about everything that's happened to you since you've been reborn. Even if it was only because of the Main Characters by your side, what about the times that they aren't with you? Are you just going to blame that on bad luck? Once, perhaps, but multiple times?
That isn't just luck or coincidence anymore."
It was true. He didn't want to admit it, but it was true.
Alec gave up for once. "Fine," he said shortly. He could admit it, but that didn't mean he was happy about it.
Perhaps it was because he felt like his life was sort of predetermined by the fact that he'd become a Main Character. Did that mean he had free will at all? Or was it some sort of predestined fate that awaited him?
The thought unsettled him greatly. How much of what happened was because of himself, and how much was inevitable?
It was a slippery road, and one he started thinking about it, the more he felt as if he was hopeless in the greater scheme of things, and less control over his life.
"Look. It's not like Main Characters are just following a plot route. As a System, don't you already know that? A single deviant action can change things completely. You've had this system for a while now. Haven't you managed to cause the plot route to deviate? Even that Main Character in [Stage 15]. Haven't you completely changed his course of destiny?"
Alec thought about it.
Indeed, he had. He'd caused Dominique to meet Tatiana and Dietrich, drastically changing the plot route, and Lukas' plot route had almost completely deviated from the normal path, perhaps for the better.
Ye Sha moved the conversation before Alec's thoughts started going off tangent. The best way to distract him from having a meltdown was to obviously… use the existence of his 'destined one'.
"Anyway, are you excited to meet The One? She's here, after all. Or he. Do you have a gender preference?"
The habitual smile on Alec's face froze lightly. He still couldn't get rid of the habit, and he wasn't sure if he really wanted to. Anyway, he was able to change his expressions at will now, so it didn't really matter.
He didn't know if he even wanted to meet the other person who was destined to be his half. Did he want to?
He truly didn't know. The fact that there was someone out there for him scared him more than he thought.
He didn't know how Chers lived with themselves, knowing that every time they walked outside, there was a chance that a random person they met passing down the street could be The One for them.
One glance, and that was it.
It was like love at first sight, but only a hundred times more terrifying.
All because a part of your biology said that this was the person you were destined to be with.
Alec let out a breath. "I don't know. I don't think I have a preference," he told Ye Sha. "Besides, does it really matter? If what my other half of my Societype tells me, it wouldn't matter even if they were the most hideous person on the planet. I'd love them anyway."
Alec, very suddenly, felt like fleeing this place, and he cursed Ye Sha for having made that decision for him – without giving him time to contemplate whether or not he wanted to meet them.
For fucks sake, he didn't even know that he was a Cher before today!
"Hey, look, I'm sorry. But do you really think you would have chosen to come here if I didn't startle you into doing so?" Ye Sha's voice was almost disgustingly earnest, and that made it hard for Alec to remain angry at him for taking the decision out of his hands.
"No," Alec said a little sullenly. "But that's the point. To *avoid* inevitable fate."
Ye Sha rolled his eyes.
Honestly, he kind of just wanted to see this surly bastard be happy for once. Alec tended to hold himself at arm's distance, but it seemed to have gotten better, if what he remembered from seeing five years of Alec's life in [Stage 15] was true.
"You know what? I think you're thinking of yourself too shallowly. Do you really think your actions will change when you meet him or her? Both of us know that whether or not you fall in love at first sight, there's no way that you'll allow your feelings to dictate your actions."
Ye Sha blatantly lied, because he could totally see Alec losing control of himself for once in his life. It would be glorious to see, but he couldn't let the other know about what he was thinking right now.
Even if Alec didn't want to admit it to himself, he was obviously quite enraged when that alien, Te.ake, had harmed Dominique under his nose.
It seemed like a running theme in Alec's action process. He always tried to deny that his actions were based off both logic and emotions like the rest of them.
Alec brushed his hair in frustration, but resolutely walked forward into the unknown.

Sent down to a random planet, Incantix, System No.00290596 has to assist the Main Character to complete his punishment.
