As his mind processed everything it took much less than second and he saw the benefits within this 'accident' that he unleashed.

While Jim was unconscious, a pale green aura began spreading from his mangled hadn, moving up his arm and rotting it to the point where it was unrecognizable as a human limb. A golden light surfaced from his head and moved to his shoulder, forcing the pale aura backwards. Hours passed with the two mystical forces clashing, the golden arm attempting to repair his arm as it regained ground, finally the pale green aura was exhausted, it flickered out of existence, the golden light began it's work on the mangled flesh.

Jim woke with a start, his right arm was numb, looking over he found his hand to be in far better condition than before, but he couldn't move, nor the rest of his arm, he immediately started channeling Reiki through his left hand into his right, two hours passed before a slight tingle was felt, he released the breath he wasn't aware he was holding.

Finding his level had increased, Jim was not particularly happy, that experience in the illusion barrier had shocked him, he was starting to feel invincible by running at speeds above other humans and blasting things apart with his fists, when suddenly he was reduced to helplessness and paralyzing fear. His hand no longer being in such an extremely bad state made him thank the Improved Rest function, but also made him aware it had its limits.

'What WAS that thing!?', The sudden appearance of such a strong monster was completely unexpected, the illusion barrier world was created by himself albeit using the system, so far all of the enemies had been managable. Thinking it over, if the pressure didn't fall on his that soundless extremely fast cloud would have reached him before he noticed what was happening, if he didn't already have the Fear Resistance and Willpower skills he would have just been unable to move at all.

'Unacceptable, I have to be more careful from now on.' Jim started entering the Illusion Barrier world to become stronger, he enjoyed the feeling of growth but wasn't one of those battle maniac story characters, a terrible creature that could kill him in an instant was not something he ever wanted to face again.

'I need to be tougher!', spending a long time pondering, Jim formed a resolve, his system allowed for growth at a ridiculous speed and the ability to break through human limits, Power and Speed were both useful, but it was meaningless if he just died in one hit, he needed an unbreakable Defense, as soon as possible, Jim began practicing Copper Body again.

Jim was afraid of pain but the need to grow overwhelmed that fear, he took the spear out of his Inventory and slightly pressed the tip against his leg, he needed to test how tough he is, the skin bent with elasticity but wasn't punctured. Jim placed more pressure, he needed nearly his entire strength before the skin broke, he withdrew the spear before it sunk in too deep and started chanelling Reiki, the newly formed small pool of blood stopped coming out at a noticable pace. 'Not nearly enough'

He started actively circulating Copper Body, once his skin took on a bronze sheen he attempted to press down with the spear again, the elasticity of the skin seemed to be the same, but after applying slowly applying up to 100% strength didn't allow the spear to penetrate. Jim took a deep breath, lifted the spear up, and drove it down, the force of the blow penetrated the skin and some muscle, it was very painful, but not as much as he thought it would be.

Several things had changed, Fear Resistance and Pain Resistance had maxed out, Pressure Resistance, Death Resistance, Magic Resistance, Indomitable Will, and Sensory Control had been added, following the trend of a skill maxing and granting a derived skill, Jim assumed Indomitable Will and Sensory Control were generated this way, which means the other three had been generated independantly, That weight on his shoulders making him unable to move must be the Pressure. 'Oh god...' He realized one of them was resisting Death, just how close had he actually been to meeting his maker?

Calming himself down, he resumed training.

Spending two days, Jim stayed cooped up in his room, if someone had entered they would have smelled blood and seen him sitting on the floor repeatedly stabbing himself while muttering under his breath, it was a rather disturbing sight. 

Sensory Control had an interesting effect, Jim could focus and dial one of his senses up or down, lowering his feeling of touch to almost completely remove pain left him hardly able to hold the spear, he couldn't feel it in his hand anymore, Jim had to resort to feeling only half pain. His Hand and Arm had fully recovered by now, the wounds inflicted on his legs were healed in full without even leaving behind scar tissue every night.

Jim no longer felt anemic from blood loss after the first day, he guessed it was related to the Blood Generation skill, it had started at max level. Using Copper Body, Stabbing the Spear, healing with Reiki, and controlling his senses were performed at the same time. Jim could now stab at his abdomen with full force and just be pushed back slightly, Copper Body had been doing it's work, but he felt it wasn't enough, his small strength would surely pale in comparison to other existing creatures.

Another 3 days had passed, this training, if you could call it that, was painful and maddening. Qi Sense allowed him to feel all of the qi energy within his body, it was like having x-ray vision but only for himself. Near his chest Jim discovered a small darkly colored orb, reaching his senses into it revealed a lake of energy, he realized this must be his Dantian. Near the center of the lake were 10 clumps of qi reaching upwards like plants sprouting from the ground, he felt a boundless power from them and assumed they were his spirit roots. Searching around, Jim spotted what looked like a large green feather bird, it was completely still as though someone had taken a 3-dimensional photograph. Being able to sense inside his dantian would normally make him very happy, but he quickly lost interest in the face of his new focus.

Jim had purchased a short sword and club from the System Shop to gain more resistances, he was saddened by no derivation skill appearing from maxing them out. Jim felt he could now take a speeding bus to the chest and come out unharmed, but thinking of explosives and antitank rifles made him feel he was still too fragile, there may be mystical techniques that could far outstrip them, he didn't fall to fall prey to anything ever again, his hellish defense training continued.

Checking his skill list he was disappointed that Persistent Body was already Max Level, he decided to check it with appraisal

Jim no longer had a body technique to practice and his physical resistance skills had reach maximum save for the new Great Physical Resistance, he felt it was finally time to stop this self inflicted torture, with the two granted while unconscious before, he had 8 Max Skill Gift Packs, he opened them immediately.

A middle aged man stumbles across an artifact which changes his life in ways he could not imagine.

Author's Note: I'm sure you guys have noticed the lack of updates. I don't have writer's block nor are there any events preventing me from writing. I honestly just don't have to motivation to keep going for now. Thus, I'm putting the novel on Hiatus, I hope everyone has enjoyed what I've written, thank you.

Bright light hit my eyes… It seemed like I had been sitting at home just recently and trying to translate an article that I had been working on. I had gone to sleep, and the next thing I knew, I was standing in the middle of a street! More precisely, I had found myself in the middle of the very street in which I had worked five years ago when I was a student... What was that squeal? It sounded like tires grinding against the asphalt. Light, screeching tires… Is that a car coming directly toward me?

I jumped back, but the car still hit me, although not as badly as it would've had I stayed in place. I managed to remain standing. I wondered why that psycho had been driving so fast. Was he not paying attention to pedestrians at all? Wait, it could've been my fault. I must've zoned out and somehow ended up in the middle of the intersection.

"Are you a complete idiot?" asked a voice with an unfamiliar accent. The door of a car with tinted windows, the make of which was unfamiliar to me, opened. Perhaps its driver wasn't a local. Not that that would excuse my behavior.

"I'm sorry." I could forgive him calling me an idiot, but I would defend myself if he didn't calm down, or if he started a fight. I really wanted to take a swing at somebody, and maybe even get hit myself. It would hurt, but that would pass. It wasn't like I was made of glass. That would, at least for a while, break up this monotony that had already started to plague me.

"Oh, he's sorry! You humans are such strange beings!" At that moment, I finally got my shit together and noticed the taxi sign on the roof of the car. "What about the battery deterioration caused by the sharp maneuvers I had to make? And my nerves! And my wife who's waiting at home, worried about me?" shouted the taxi driver.

I listened to the list of troubles that had befallen him, but it all seemed so unimportant to me. What if this wasn't real? Maybe I was just dreaming? How else could I explain the fact that there was a 6'6, blue-skinned man standing in front of me, whose wide nostrils made his nose look more like a pig's snout than an ordinary human nose?

"Ten credits and we can part ways civilly." The unusual taxi driver unexpectedly finished his speech and stared at me.

"I don't understand..." I raised my hands and rubbed my eyes, hoping that this would help me wake up.

"If you don't want to do this the easy way, fine, I'll act according to law."

He pulled out his phone, which looked rather weird in his hands, and made a call. After just a couple of minutes, two patrol police cars appeared at the scene. Fortunately, ordinary-looking humans came out of them. For some reason, they, unlike me, didn't find what was happening strange at all. What's going on here?

"I've uploaded the information about the incident and my certified statement to the city server," my blue-skinned hallucination greeted them. Maybe I'm just imagining this whole thing?

"Then we'll take the offender with us. The compensation fee will be sent to you after we've analyzed the situation, within the regulated time limits." Even if I was imagining things, it would be better if I didn't show it. I really didn't need any additional troubles; I was already in over my head.

In the meantime, the conversations ended. I was carefully placed in the backseat of the police car, and we set off. Now, having come to my senses a little, I realized that the car wasn't exactly flying, but sort of floating. But it moved quickly, smoothly, and seemed very real. No, something weird must be going on around me. I have to try to figure it out. I should be casual about it, there's no need to openly show my interest or ignorance.

"And who was that?" I said as calmly as I could.

"The blue-skinned one?"

So, my question wasn't an unusual one.

I nodded in response. The policemen seemed rather relaxed now. They couldn't be seen from the outside. Maybe they would tell me something useful.

"He's an ordinary Velly migrant. They send them to the new worlds to maintain the infrastructure. The salary is mediocre, but, this has its benefits. Every now and again a psycho like you appears."

"A Velly migrant?"

"Are you kidding? Or are you high?" The policeman inspected me with some kind of device, and sighed in disappointment.

It looked like I wasn't high, which was good. However, the fact that everything that was going on was normal for everyone except me was really bad. But there was nothing I could do about it. Any additional questions would only bring me more unnecessary trouble.

"Sam, we've received information about our offender."

"What does it say? Have the charges been confirmed?"

"Yes, he's been sentenced. His reputation has been lowered by two, and there's a twenty-credit fine."

I was listening and taking mental notes. I would definitely find out what had happened, but for now, I had to make sure not to get into even more trouble. So, everyone here had some kind of reputation which was, judging by the policeman's voice, much more important than the credits. By the way, they charged me double. The taxi driver had requested only ten credits. Had he been trying to do me a favor?

"Well, did he have enough money on his account to pay the fine?" The policemen continued their conversation without paying any attention to me, and I must admit that I was a little taken aback by them talking about a detainee like that while they were present.

"Yes. What's more, a corporate lawyer from RosEnergy took his case. Not only do we have to let him go, but we also have to take him home."

"Geez, and why does this wimp deserve such an honor? RosEnergy lawyers don't work with just anyone."

RosEnergy seemed to be a state-owned energy corporation. And I was inclined to agree with them — why would I be granted such an honor?

"According to our documents, he's a level two battery, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. He's a valuable employee; the company is making sure that he doesn't miss a workday."

"Wow!" Both policemen looked at me through the rearview mirror, and I could see respect in their eyes.

A battery? Level two? I really wanted to ask them a couple of questions but I stayed silent, knowing that that wouldn't end well. They can take me home in silence, and then I'll deal with everything else myself. I hoped that the Internet was still a thing in this world of flying machines and blue-skinned people. I believed that I didn't need anything else except the web.

Having moved closer to the window, I began to look around, paying attention to all sorts of things that were unusual to me; there was an obscene amount of them. A group of blue-skinned people was walking down the street, talking about something. If it weren't for the color of their skin and the pig snouts, they wouldn't be distinguishable from ordinary teenagers. I saw one more leaving a night club. Unlike the taxi driver and that clique, he had a perfectly normal nose; small and neat. He looked somehow better off than they did. He had a suit, a shiny watch on his wrist, and an expensive car that was obviously waiting for him.

Thinking about the difference between them, I continued looking out the window. Advertising posters caught my attention this time. One of them was of a man, smiling, dipping his hands into a container full of yellow liquid.

Being a battery isn't a shame! Discharge the energy for the good of your home planet!

There was another unusual one depicting a spaceship that was flying away from the familiar blue ball. It had a slogan written in gorgeous golden letters at the bottom.

What was happening? Were the blue-skinned ones aliens? But how could I have missed their appearance?

I spotted another poster.

The last poster had no pictures. Its simple, white background attracted my attention for two reasons: first, the name of the sponsor, RosEnergy, was written at the bottom, and according to the policemen, that was where I worked; the second being the entire battery and energy thing. They called me a level two battery, which meant that there was a level one battery, which also meant there was some sort of a ranking system for it. When did I become a battery?

"We're here." I had almost missed when we stopped and they politely opened the door for me, suggesting that I walk to my apartment.

Fortunately, my house hadn't changed. I quickly said goodbye to my escort and hurried to my studio apartment. Where are my keys? Having found them, I quickly opened and closed the door.

I found myself in an unfamiliar place. The wallpaper and the stove were the same, and the coat rack was on the left, next to the mirror, as always, but everything else… A huge, 100-inch screen was hanging in front of something that was either a futuristic-looking bed or a dentist's chair. Strange containers with a liquid similar to that from the poster stood on my table. What's that projection display with a clock right above my old gas oven…? Why is it showing July? I remember it being September! And the year? Next year? What's happening?

I could guess what I would discover, but I rushed to my laptop nonetheless and opened a couple of websites to check the date's accuracy. The numbers that were on the kitchen clock were displayed everywhere. I didn't know how it had happened, but I had managed to forget the entire previous year.

I spent the next hour sitting and reading, going through article archives on a couple of websites. I was filling in gaps in my knowledge about what had happened during the ten months that were missing from my memory. There were both short and long reports on how Earth was conquered in one day, how we were given new technologies, and how those who were against it were punished. One after another, the old professions died out, and the majority of the population became batteries. This was one of the technologies that the Velly, the blue-faced aliens, had given us in hopes of uniting us with their civilization. Levels six and up were military psychics who served the Velly army, suppressed rebellions, and urged planets to accept compromises.

Judging by the booklets scattered around me about various ships and star systems, I still wanted to go into space. I wanted to increase my battery level and then fly away to explore the universe. For that reason, I had training containers full of yellow liquid that should aid me in discharging energy. Why not? There are new worlds, new races, and new experiences. And even though a big chunk of my memory is missing, this idea sounds great.

Just as I had convinced myself that everything would be fine — well, if not now, then in the near future for sure — a mechanical voice pierced my ears, followed by the deafening sound of a distant explosion. Stay away from the windows? Hell no! Without losing any time, I got closer and observed the nearest building, over which black smoke had already begun to rise. What's going on there?

A plane, or something similar to it, flew over the building, and three figures in black space suits jumped out onto the roof. Are they a part of Special Forces or what? They had no parachutes, nor any other special weapons; they just jumped onto the roof, rising from a cloud of soaring dust. However, there weren't three of them, but four. Or was the fourth guy the reason why they came there? Damn, they're too far, I can't see anything. I tried to use my phone. I turned on the camera and pointed it at my target. That's better… Huh, it has focus, zoom, and even slow-motion. A couple of years ago, even the military couldn't dream of such technology, and today I had such a thing in my pocket.

In the meantime, the Special Forces trio and the stranger attacked each other. Shots were fired, followed by several explosions; I couldn't make heads or tails of it. And then the whole building began to shake, threatening to collapse, but it remained standing, held in place by a huge energy field. I couldn't resist rewinding the video and then watching it in slow motion. The trio was shooting at the fourth guy, who was repelling the bullets with his bare hands. And he wasn't a blue-skinned — I wouldn't be surprised if they were really capable of doing that — but an ordinary man. A pale-blue ray came out of his hands and, having gone through the defense of one of the guys, blew him up from the inside. The other two immediately wrapped themselves up in energy shields, but the man had no intention of attacking them. Instead, he threw some kind of a ball behind his back, and then caught a glider that rushed past the roof and flew away. And then came the explosion. The ball must've been a bomb designed to divert attention. And it worked. One of the armed guys, a blue-skinned, was forced to stay back on the roof and hold the building until all the residents were evacuated.

Having made sure that everything was over, I moved away from the window and fell onto my chair-bed, which was surprisingly comfortable, and probably the only positive thing that had happened to me so far. The future, in which I had unexpectedly found myself, turned out to be not the most peaceful place. And earlier, when I was reading about those high-level batteries, potential troubles seemed far, far away. Only now did I realize how close the danger really was.

Max, I remind you that you have to leave in ten minutes if you don't want to be late for work.

The phone, on which the video kept playing on loop, flashed the notification that somebody, probably me, had previously entered. Work? Right, I'm a level two battery, I have to go and make a living. If only I knew how I was supposed to do that...

Bright light hit my eyes… It seems that only recently I've been sitting home and trying to translate an article that I was working on. I went to sleep and the next thing I knew, I was standing in the middle of a street! More precisely, I found myself in the middle of the very street in which I worked five years ago when I was a student... What was that squeal? It sounded like tires grinding against the asphalt. Light, screeching tires… Is that a car coming directly at me? 
I jumped back, but the car still hit me, although not as badly as it would've had I stayed in place. I managed to remain standing. I wondered why that psycho was driving so fast. Was he not paying attention to pedestrians at all? Wait, it could've been my fault. I must've zoned out and somehow ended up in the middle of the intersection.
"Are you a complete idiot?" spoke a voice in an unfamiliar accent. The door of a car with tinted windows, the mark of which was unfamiliar to me, opened. Perhaps its driver wasn't a local. Not that that would excuse my behavior. 
"I'm sorry." I could forgive them calling me an idiot, but I would defend myself if they didn't calm down or start a fight. I really wanted to take a swing at somebody, and maybe even get hit myself. It would hurt, but it would pass. It wasn't like I was made of glass. That would, at least for a while, break this monotony that had already started to plague me. 
"Oh, he's sorry! You people are such strange beings!" At that moment I finally got my shit together and noticed the taxi sign on the roof of the car. "And what about battery deterioration due to sharp maneuvers? And my nerves?! And my wife who's waiting at home, worried about me?!" shouted the taxi driver.
I listened to the list of troubles that had befallen him; it all seemed to fly past me. What if this wasn't real? Maybe I was just dreaming? How else could I explain that there was a 6.5-feet-tall, blue-skinned man standing in front of me, whose wide nostrils made his nose look more like a pig's snout than an ordinary human nose? 
"Ten credits and we can part ways." The unusual taxi driver unexpectedly finished his speech and stared at me.
"I don't understand..." I raised my hands and rubbed my eyes, hoping that that would help me wake up. 
"If you don't want to do this nicely, fine, I will act according to law."
He pulled out his phone, which looked rather weird in his hands, and made a call. After just a couple of minutes, two patrol police cars appeared at the scene. Fortunately, ordinary-looking humans came out of them. For some reason, they, unlike me, didn't find what was happening strange at all. What's going on here?
"I've uploaded the information about the incident and my certified statement to the city server," my blue-skinned hallucination greeted them. Maybe I'm just imagining this whole thing?
"Then we'll take the offender with us. The compensation fee will be sent to you after we've analyzed the situation, within the regulated time limits." Even if I was imagining things, it would be better if I didn't show it. I really didn't need any additional troubles; I was already in over my head. 
In the meantime, the conversations ended. I was carefully placed in the backseat of the police car, and we set off. Now, having come to my senses a little, I realized that the car wasn't exactly flying, but sort of floating. But it moved quickly, smoothly and seemed very real. No, something weird must be going on around me. I have to try to figure it out. I should be casual about it, there's no need to openly show my interest or ignorance. 
"And who was that?" I said as calmly as I could.
"The blue-skinned one?"
So, my question wasn't an unusual one.
I nodded in response. The policemen seemed rather relaxed now. They couldn't be seen from the outside. Maybe they would tell me something useful. 
"He's an ordinary Velly migrant. They send them to the new worlds to maintain the infrastructure. The salary is mediocre, but, this has its benefits. Every now and again a psycho like you appears."
"A Velly migrant?"
"Are you kidding? Or are you high?" The policeman inspected me with some kind of device, and sighed in disappointment.
It looked like I wasn't high, which was good. However, the fact that everything that was going on was normal for everyone except me was really bad. But there was nothing I could do about it. Any additional questions would only bring me more unnecessary trouble.
"Sam, we've received information about our offender."
"What does it say? Have the charges been confirmed?"
"Yes, he's been sentenced. His reputation has been lowered by two, and there's a twenty credits fine."
I was listening and taking mental notes. I would definitely find out what had happened, but for now, I had to make sure not to get into even more trouble. So, everyone here had some kind of reputation which was, judging by the policeman's voice, much more important than the credits. By the way, they charged double. The taxi driver had requested ten credits. Was he trying to do me a favor?
"Well, did he have enough money on his account to pay the fine?" The policemen continued their conversation without paying any attention to me, and I must admit that I was a little taken aback by them talking about a detainee like that while they were present. 
"Yes. What's more, a corporate lawyer from RosEnergy took his case. Not only do we have to let him go, but we also have to take him home."
"Geez, and why does this wimp deserve such an honor? RosEnergy lawyers don't work with just anyone."
RosEnergy seemed to be a state-owned energy corporation. And I was inclined to agree with them — why would I be granted such an honor?
"According to our documents, he's a level two battery, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. He's a valuable employee; the company is making sure that he doesn't miss a workday."
"Wow!" Both policemen looked at me through the rearview mirror, and I could see respect in their eyes.
A battery? Level two? I really wanted to ask them a couple of questions but I stayed silent, knowing that that wouldn't end well. They can take me home in silence, and then I will deal with everything else myself. I hoped that the internet was still a thing in this world of flying machines and the blue-skinned people. I believed that I didn't need anything else except the web. 
Having moved closer to the window, I began to look around, paying attention to all sorts of things that were unusual to me; there was an obscene amount of them. A group of blue-skinned people was walking down the street, talking about something. If it weren't for the color of their skin and the pig snouts, they wouldn't be distinguishable from ordinary teenagers. I saw one more leaving a night club. Unlike the taxi driver and that clique, he had a perfectly normal nose; small and neat. He looked somehow better off than them. He had a suit, a shiny watch on his wrist, and an expensive car that was obviously waiting for him.
Thinking about the difference between them, I continued looking out the window. Advertising posters caught my attention this time. One of them was of a man, smiling, dipping his hands into a container full of yellow liquid. 
Being a battery isn't a shame! Discharge the energy for the good of your home planet!
There was another unusual one depicting a spaceship that was flying away from the familiar blue ball. It had a slogan written in gorgeous golden letters at the bottom. 
The Velly Empire is grateful to Earth for its contribution to the energy supply.
What was happening? Were the blue-skinned ones aliens? But how could I have missed their appearance?
I spotted another poster.
Ninety-three percent of the inhabitants of the empire can accumulate energy. Don't stop, develop your skills and become the pride of Velly!
The last poster had no pictures. Its simple, white background attracted my attention for two reasons: first, the name of the sponsor, RosEnergy, was written at the bottom, and according to the policemen, that was where I worked; the second being the entire battery and energy thing. They called me a level two battery, which meant that there was a level one battery, which also meant there was some sort of a ranking system for it. When did I become a battery?
"We're here." I had almost missed when we stopped and they politely opened the door for me, suggesting that I walk to my apartment. 
Fortunately, my house hadn't changed. I quickly said goodbye to my escort and hurried to my studio apartment. Where are my keys? Having found them, I quickly opened and closed the door.
I found myself in an unfamiliar place. The wallpaper and the stove were the same, and the coat rack was on the left, next to the mirror, as always, but everything else… A huge, 100-inch screen was hanging in front of something that was either a futuristic-looking bed or a dentist's chair. Strange containers with a liquid similar to that from the poster stood on my table. What's that projection display with a clock right above my old gas oven…? Why is it showing July? I remember it being September! And the year? Next year? What's happening?
I could guess what I would discover, but I rushed to my laptop nonetheless and opened a couple of websites to check the date's accuracy. The numbers that were on the kitchen clock were displayed everywhere. I didn't know how it had happened, but I had managed to forget everything that happened the previous year.

I don't know where I am. I woke up in a room with black flooring and walls. I look around and there's nothing. It's all black, no exit, no entrance, no ventilation..There's no signs of life in the room. Everything is a pristine dark marble texture. I'm writing this hoping to get a reply from somebody, but I don't know where I'm gonna post it. 

If you're reading this, I am trapped somewhere. I don't know where, I don't know how I got here, all I know is that it's pitch black and the walls are slowly closing in. I've been here for multiple hours at this point and I'm afraid I'll never escape. All I have is my clothes and my phone. The room is completely sealed. No signs of anyone being able to enter or exit, and due to how clear the floors and walls are, nobody's ever been here before.

I aimlessly bash my hands on the wall, but to no avail. The walls don't react, but after a while, my hands are bloody. I try to wrap my shirt around my fist to cushion the blow to my hands, but nothing works. The room is too dark to see in. I can barely see my hands and feet. The phone's flashlight helps slightly, but not too much. I eventually give up and slide onto the glossy marble floors of my tomb.

If you're reading this, I've been here for what feels like days. There's no food, or water, or anything. There's no internet, either. The walls have closed in, and now I'm curled up in the middle of the room, tears staining my face. It's so dark. All I see is the light of my phone. My phone is at 3% battery, and it's getting more and more cramped.

If I ever escape, I'm never turning off the lights.

Multiple short stories based around one thing; fears.

Lava breathing boar is a fire type beast and its offense usually focuses on pure brute force. Despite having a stout body, its agility is a force to be reckoned with. That is why  the best way to battle it is to slow it down.

Thus when Long Fuzi, started to plan hunting the beast, he practice casting the spell for conjuring frost bomb which is an ice type explosive. Once the frost bomb impaled its target, it will gradually form frost all over the affected area.

But the downside of this spell is that it does not have any damaging effect. It will just slow down or halt the movement of its target as it will become frozen. But once the ice melted, the target can recover from it easily. Just like what happen to Long Fuzi's case.

Being weaken as he had been casting frost bomb one after another during the chase, he almost depleted his mana dry.

Warlock and sorceress power relies on casting spell of course. Every increase in level of each realm also means that they will have an increase in the mana that they can accumulate. Relatively mana is needed for them to cast a spell. It was like a fuel for a car. No matter how good the car is, it will still be useless if it does not have any fuel to run it. In another comparison, mana was like the battery life while the wand serves as the phone. Upon using it over time, the mana just like the battery life will drain so it has to be recharged by reinforcing magical nucleus that can be found within the body of a magical beast.

Warlocks and sorceress of red realm has a mana ranging from 5-50. 
Those from amateur level can store 5 mana in their wand. Intermediate level warlocks and sorceress has 10 mana while those in the professional level can have up to 20 mana. Upon reaching the senior level, they will be able to accumulate 35 mana in their wand and once they reached the level of a master, they can have 50 mana stored in their wand.

Long Fuzi was currently at senior level in red realm. He can gather up to 35 mana. Strong enough to face the lava breathing boar at a single battle. But right now his mana has been consumed due to his previous pursuit. 

A single frost bomb will cost him 1 mana per attack. And assuming that they had been running all along, he already lost count on how many frost bomb he already conjured. His mana must have been consumed more than its half amount, while this lava breathing boar that he was facing was a magical beast on its peak.

One disadvantage on battling a magical beast is that, while warlock and sorceress spells can be powerful, it has a limit. Once they consume their mana, they won't be able to cast any spell and they will have to solely rely on themselves. While magical beast was naturally born with advantage of magic that won't run dry unless they got killed. 

That is why when the lava breathing boar fight him desperately, he easily got injured.
His seven orifices was bleeding profusely due to the impact. He could have at least safe himself from this assault if he was not busy saving the little girl not too far away. Using his remaining mana, he enclosed Mu Lingxi into a bubble to shield her from the impact of the sound wave.

Feeling light headed due to loss of blood, he almost fainted. But he knew very well that this is not the time to show his weakness.

The situation was in complete reverse, this time it was the lava breathing boar who was chasing after Long Fuzi.
He keep on running until an idea pop out from his mind. When he reach a nearby tree, he halted his steps and bravely face the beast.

Calmly but nervously, yet feeling faint and dizzy, hovered Berbeck, down the corridors of the Chromotorian experimental station. He was wearing his white, silky gown and had a chest-pocket with all pens and pencils. He had a clipboard in his right hand, a piece of paper clutched in the claws. In his left hand, he had a small battery, green and blue in colour, like a lagoon type of shade. He walked past the flickering lights and some other workers were sitting in the library reading information they could find, and some were relaxing, working heavily in the day, well night as well. No one could tell because they were so deep in the ocean, the only light from the lamps illuminating the place. Berbeck arrived at the Ministers room, and stood outside. He took a deep breath and clutched his hand on the golden shiny door knob, turning it left and pushing open the wooden door. He stepped into a dimly lit room, circled all the way round with no corners. On the walls was shelf upon shelf of books, and engrams. The stone work of the room was as dark as the night sky, and the curved roof was a glass structure, and upon looking up, different sea creatures passed by and choral was beginning to grow off the glass. The desk of the Minister was up high, and Berbeck could not even see the Ministers face. On the desk, was a green shade lamp and a pile of books titled as They Heart Of The Sea' and 'Universe Alike' and also 'theories beyond our human thoughts and minds'. A looming clock hung upon the wall behind the desk, and was ticking awkwardly. It read three ten. Berbeck craned his neck up towards the desk and spoke. 
"Sir.. Minister.. I .. have found something."
The minister stood up, revealing a face with brown wavy hair and green eyes. Wrinkles had just shown in his face, revealing a small bit of age. The Minister spoke back,
"Tell me, whoever you are. I have at least sixty workers coming in here telling me they've found something then just end up showing me a quote from a wrinkly fellow from about a hundred and forty years ago talking about mankind or some crap, so make it snappy."
Berbeck nodded and gestured to him, as if asking whether he was to go up there, or the Minister was to come down to his level. Without hesitation, Berbeck climbed the stone cold stairs up the desk and opened a book to page 45, reading a wording of something interesting. The Minister leaned over to take a look.

The Minister looked at Berbecks face. He had a look of confusion and yet interest. The book was just a normal children's fantasy yet kept hand written information. Someone had left this here for a start of a generation. A child.
"Thank you. Let me keep this now, what is your name?" 
"Berbeck."
The Minister took the book with a sturdy hand and placed it down on his desk, reading over the words, analysing everything he could see that was written in the hand writing. Berbeck nodded and walked down the stone stairs and to the door. A smile revealed on the Ministers face. He was one step closer to beginning.

Nightfall approached as Jake and Christie were struggling to find their way back to the campsite after a long and gruelling hike. Bob, their other friend, was back in the campsite and couldn't make it to the hike because of an injury.
Bob was getting worried about Jake and Christie's whereabouts as the food had cooled down and they still hadn't returned.
"Jake? Christie? Where are you?", he called out. Only the owls responded.
Amidst the dark and dense forest, Bob - even in excruciating pain - decides to venture out to find them.
"Jake? Christie?", he called out again. Silence prevailed. He felt a chill on the side of his neck. He couldn't resist turning around and checking about it. All he could see was a shadowy figure moving. Ignoring it, he moved ahead.

Darkness prevailed, the flashlight was out of battery, the map was lost. Petrified, every moment, Jake and Christie were thinking about getting back to the campsite.

"Our flashlight is out of battery and we've lost our map. " said Christie with tears rolling out of her eyes.

"Christie!" Jake exclaimed. "It is not the time to cry. Think about something that we could do to survive this night."

All of a sudden, the two of them saw a horrifying figure swiftly going through the woods.

What... was that? Questioned Jake in a Shaky tone.

Cursing themselves, every second, Jake and his companion moved ahead quaking in their boots.


Limping through the woods, The whereabouts of his comerades were concerning Bob every moment. Convincing himself, Bob dragged his bleeding foot and went searching for Jake and Christie. Christie's hysterical weeping called to Bob's attention. He limped over to her as fast as he could to console her. He called out to Jake to help him but he got no response. Bob looked around but all he could see was the dense dark forest, and for a brief fleeting moment, a dark figure. He rubbed his eyes only to see it disappear. He didn't think much of it and went back to tending Christie. He went in the search of Jake who they thought was possibly lost, but was that actually the case?

Amidst a forest with mysterious, horrifying looking trees, Bob and Christie were finding there way to the camp because Christie needed rest. Eventually, they found the way and got back to the camp. He asked Christie to rest as she looked exhausted. He again ventured out to find Jake.

Walking in the middle of the woods, he saw a disheveled Jake with his face towards some undergrowth.

"Turn around Jake!" Exclaimed Bob furiously. "You shouldn't have left Christie alone in the forest"

His eyes, almost felt like they would camouflage in the background if taken out. His face was pale white and eyes completely black. The horrifying scene made Bob scream at the top of his voice. It was so loud that it was heard all around the hill. Bob limped as fast as he could for saving his life. Looking back while going, he could see possessed Jake walking behind him.

The light was on, reading a book in her tent, Christie was trying to engage herself unaware of what was happening. She didn't worry about her mate, Jake. It should be known as he abandoned her amidst the forest, but, was it actually what had happened?

Bob felt some droplets of water falling on him. In a flash, he realised that it was drizzling. It was assured that it would pour and be a tough night. He looked back to see if the malevolent force in the form of Jake was behind him. To his relief he didn't see anything behind. He turned around just to see.....

Christie was now concerned. She couldn't sleep even if she tried to. She was thinking about Bob and Jake the whole time. She stepped out to see if her friends were back. She could hear someone calling her name out. She looked around only to see the wet soil and the trees. She ignored the call and went back inside the tent.

Bob was extremely terrified to see Jake in front of him. He started running backwards.

"What happened "? Interrogated Jake.

"Go away from me" shouted Bob.

"Let's get back to the camp. It is about to rain." Jake said.

"I don't believe you!" Exclaimed Bob.

"Trust me. I won't do anything. Where is Christie though?" Replied Jake.

"Back at the camp" said Bob

Trusting Jake, he went to the camp with him. They reached the camp. Bob called out to Christie. She came out and was thrilled to see Jake and Bob. She was talking to Bob while he noticed that Jake had no shadow even though he was next to the camp light. He told Christie about it and both of them ran instantly. Running through the woods, They somehow found the way to go downhill and reached there in a matter of an hour. The sun was rising and they were extremely delighted. There happiness though, was short as they realised that they had lost Jake.

They returned home to make a call to Jake's Mother who they thought would be worried about him. The call was made.

"Hello."

"Yes, this is Maria speaking, how may I help you?"

"Hi, is this jake's mom?"

"Yes it is, what happened ?"

"Ma'am, we're sorry to say, but we've lost Jake during the hike."

"Is this Christie?"

"Yes"

"Are you trying a prank of some sort?"

"No, Why?"

"He was ill the whole week and has been lying in bed. He didn't go to any hike. Bye!"

The call hung up. Bob and Christie realised many things, but most importantly, they realised that the so called "Jake" on the hike was not their Jake.

"Then who was it?"

Three friends encounter a supernatural entity while hiking. To their surprise the ghost was not who they expected it to be. Who was it?

Venne only had the nearby area to worry about for now.
The first step was to set up guards for her new base. To start, several armed drones were sent out. Venne flinched as they tragically failed to fly even ten meters. 
A few hours later, after a series of tests, the drones could only stably fly 30 meters from a source. Far from being good enough as security. Venne resigned herself to using cable for information transfer, deserting drones in favor of turrets.
The town of Jeace rested a few tens of kilometers north. It was the town that this village used to trade at, so Venne took it as her best bet to increase her wealth. She searched through her memories for any secret storages, and found coins worth eighty Totsan Deins. They would serve as funding for her trip. It was enough for most purposes, as it was the amount a farmer would profit in six days..
Venne feared that she would have to walk all the way to Jeace, but vehicles without satellite functions still function correctly.
The main road eventually came into view, and farmland soon after. No sentient creatures had seen her yet, but Venne didn't want to attract any unnecessary eyes. She got off and stored the machines. The fields were a sign that Jeace was within several kilometers. Walking would not be a problem.
The farmers used Hoes and Scythes to harvest their crops, and their homes looked similar to the wooden shacks back in the village. It was a good sign that the overall condition of the planet was similar to the dark ages. 
The walls of the city came into view after an hour of walking. The prolonged day night cycle became evident as Venne observed the movement of the sun. That would explain the five meal days and 40 acre farms that were necessary for a family of farmers to live. 
The toll was 0.70 Deins, rather steep but it made sense for the uncommon visits for selling. Looking at the town made Venne's eyeballs twitch. The streets were nothing but filthy. They were made of dirt and gravel. The smell wasn't any better. Remembering her objective, she forcibly held back her urge to turn back. Now that she was inside, she began collecting information. The first thing in her memory was the Hetlecan Intelligence Center, a network stretching across the kingdom.
They offered information to anyone as it was a social service. A few paragraphs on the granite displays were taken note of. The town was low on magic. The town was also experiencing a population boom, which is thought to be the cause by the journalists. That would also explain the Venne guessed that too many people were populating the air after reading a headline,"Lord Schore bans civilian use of magic generation through heat." With that in mind, she left for the market.
It was busy as expected of the town. Venne would frequently hear the sales pitches of various vendors. After circling through most of it, she made a list of products and their average prices on a notepad. On her second lap she walked up to a stall that displayed several small cylindrical gems.
Empty Vetherum batteries. They were being sold for as little as 15 Deins. Charged ones on the other hand were reaching prices of a hundred. The ones who were buying were naturally donned in expensive attires or military armor.
"I'll take this for 30 Deins," said Venne, walking up to a vendor.
"The price is 40, it's as low as I can offer," responded the vendor.
"Well, I'm sure you aren't going to have much luck selling them in this climate. 35," offered Venne. She pushed some more,"They're only charged a quarter of the way. Do you think anyone who can afford it would choose this over a fully charged one?" The vendor reluctantly accepted the deal, but a trace of happiness was picked up after the deal was completed. At the same time, some eyes were focused on her, which she didn't noticed but didn't .
Something else caught her attention as well, a barrel of a black liquid she saw on her first lap. Venne confirmed that it was the only likely place selling oil after circling around the market. 
"Selling oil, oil for one Dein a glass!" shouted the vendor. The price surprised her, considering the value of a single Dein, but she realized that the only use for oil would be as fuel. One glass was equal to 10 liters, more than enough for a family to light their candles. The price must have dropped considerably after the ban of magic generation through heat.
A rumor was circulating around the town that the Intelligence center had not yet addressed. Apparently the Letryan army that fought a war with Hevelta was planning another invasion Resting in a large mountain range, despite their impressive size, the Letryans had half the population of Hevelta. Although just a rumor, it was certainly worth noting, considering how profitable war can be for those on the sidelines. The rumor found more credibility on the decade's lower crop yields for the region. While it's only a matter of wealth for Hevelta, It's life and death for a crop loss of 10% in Letrya.
With all that in mind, Venne set off for home.
The minute she was out of view, Venne plunged herself into her soul and took a cold shower, while her clothes and the gemstone were being cleaned by machines. The filth in the city was so terrible she still smelled the stench even now. She got into the Cellular Enrichment Chamber to kill any strange unearthly pathogens that could kill her.
Now it was time to research the battery. A scanning tunnelling microscope revealed nothing. From what she heard, the town folk used to light a fire under the battery, which would charge it by a thousandth of a percent using a strong continuously fueled flame. 
No wonder it was banned, thought Venne. Apparently some specialized in charging them and built large furnaces which retained more heat. They charged the batteries a hundredth of a percent a day, had limited space, and required more fuel. Even so, they are often made in batches of tens or hundreds, so they can still find profits like a shorter lived wine organization. A single charged battery can go a long way. In the hands of a magician, three can make a projectile that creates an explosion about as powerful as a hand grenade. It doesn't sound like much, but they can go a long way in a siege. A martial artist can use one to launch a hundred fist strikes with the power of a sledge hammer, an ideal soldier for a spec ops group. A good engineer can use it in cooperation with several hundred to create a defensive grid capable of stopping thousands of artillery strikes before running out of magic. 
Research was definitely going to take some time, so Venne set up some drones to autonomously scan for minerals.
Venne continued researching for two more days. Now she had a vague theory about the inner workings of magic, but it felt so strange that she wanted to discard it completely. She theorized that an atom with different properties could be attracted to some molecules, and that these atoms were responsible for attracting a kind of magical particle. They could somehow be manipulated by people and animals through their soul. She did remember trying to use exotic matter on Earth, but the control was terrible. Not only that it was weak as well.
Venne set aside theorizing for the time being and looked at energy generation. The gem simply stored energy when a force was applied to it. When the force wasn't large enough, the gem lost a small amount of energy. What bothered her the most was  the terrible energy efficiency. If she had lit a campfire and placed ten crystals in it, over 99.99% of the thermal energy would be lost. She guessed a specialized furnace could get it down to 99.98%, but that wasn't much better. 
This research wasn't fruitless, however, because she did notice that these magical particles were interfering with the radio waves her drones so desperately needed. Venne made some small changes to the drone factory for it to use 2G instead of 5G. The prospector drones found several spots with concentrations of iron and gold. As a machine meant for interstellar travel, the Ark had plenty of machines meant to mine asteroids, which worked fine for the planet after adjusting them.
Venne started her research once again, this time on magic production. Apparently the Letryans use the kinetic energy of the winds, and in the far west used water mills. They also had terrible efficiency. Electricity did a great job transferring energy. It managed to charge 10% of the vetherum battery in a single day, but did waste several tens of thousands of watt hours.
Six more days passed. The number of people observed on cable surveillance tripled, definitely a result of tensions. Many travelled in groups with the tools of ordinary village folk, but wore suspiciously clean attires. Even their tools looked like they were never used.
Research proceeded smoothly. A whole new spectrum of waves was discovered. They had little effect on normal matter but could be used to send information. The defective drones were quickly swapped out for long-distance gen II drones to capitalize on the pre war atmosphere as much as possible.
The research also brought insight on Venne's experience in town. The reason people were looking at her was because she got scammed. The gemstone barely had any power in it. It was very difficult to tell the difference in the gemstone as it charged from 10% to 50%. Only when it reached 70% did it start to have a distinct glow. 
Another day passed with experiments of cold and hot weapons. Lasers were still as strong as ever, a suitable armament for tanks. Bullets worked well enough. They possessed almost the same strength; what used to be able to penetrate through a centimeter of steel would now stop just shy of it.
At noon the next day the chance arose. One and a half kilometers west was a group of 'civilians' hiding in the foliage in anticipation of a small caravan heading towards Jeace. Venne prepared a helicopter and nine self operating drones. She also chose an outfit that best matched the clothes of military officials. When she was done, she started the operation.

A brilliant woman known as Venne led the world in a new enlightenment in the 21st century. Humanity was on track to becoming an intergalactic species, before a mass extinction event wiped the souls of every living thing on earth except her, whose body was inside her soul. Venne's Pride would not allow defeat, so she spend the next three decades creating technology that would allow her to ferry her soul into the past while storing tons of machines and resources to jump start her new life in the past With everything in place. Venne set off for 2025, but her soul smashed into a dimensional rift. It eventually landed in some timeline that had vague similarities with Earth, a universe with magic integrated into physics.
