The Voice closes the window that was playing the security camera footage and pulls up a map of The City before continuing, "Those coded orders have just been acknowledged by the paramilitary group. I have back traced that acknowledgement to a private hangar at the airport."

The map scrolls to a district marked as Red Perch Cape and zooms in on the airport located there. The Voice scrolls past the the main terminal and stops at a series of hangars located behind a barbed wire fence. 

The Voice says, "Red Perch Airport is split into two main facilities, one for the public at large and the other for VIPs and other individuals who privately own their own planes. The paramilitaries are based within hangar 69 at the VIP wing of the airport."

The laptop then displays aerial and what I assume to be satellite reconnaissance photos of the hangar in question. This data is supplemented by security camera footage probably stolen by The Voice from the site itself.  Examining the photos and assembled footage, I see that the hangar has been turned into a small arsenal and living area housing not more than ten people. The pair of guards hanging around outside the hangar on duty strike me as familiar though. Men in suits, carrying swords. Just like at the warehouse. 

"Those guys," I ask The Voice, "are they part of the same group I tangled with at the warehouse earlier?"

The Voice responds, "Yes. They refer to themselves as the Judecca Militia, named after some paramilitary unit active during the Iron Octopus Crisis. After you had escaped from the warehouse, the police started arresting all the guards they could get their hands on. The guards that managed to escape regrouped at this hangar owned by an offshore company."

I grunt in acknowledgement. The Hero's family originally arrived on earth during that Iron Octopus thing didn't they? Does this mean that the Hero's extended family are going to be the antagonists? Lets examine the immediate problem first though. 

"Why did those guys gather at the hangar then? What's so special about that place?" I ask The Voice. 

"As Red Perch Airport possesses its own international zone, City police by treaty cannot access the area beyond customs at either of these facilities. This includes the hangar area." The Voice rumbles, "This makes the private hangars an ideal spot for an armed group to camp out, waiting for the heat to die down. It also makes them an ideal target for a strike. Attack the hangar and wipe them out."

I take a look at the surveillance footage again as well as the photos of the airport, assessing the situation. No way. The Voice is being far too cavalier about this. 

I shake my head, "Not possible. Not only is the hangar itself guarded by those Judecca guys, it is situated behind the airport's own security. I would need to either punch through the airport security or sneak past them before getting into spitting range of the hangar. After I take out the militia, airport security and the police would be right on top of me in either case. I don't fancy my chances. Not when there is an easier way."

The Voice rumbles with curiosity, "Indeed? Do tell Transmigrator."

I use the mouse to shift the map back to the Dreaming Spires District and stop at the location marked as the Heath. 

"We already know that the militia is going to crash the Hero's duel of honor. I will deploy at the Heath and jump the militia as they are heading in. Simple." I say. 

The Voice rasps disapprovingly, "If only. After the duel, the Hero and Mr Matsui will take the opportunity to bond. As this is vital to the process of cultivating Mr Matsui as an ally of the Hero, I do not want both of them to be disturbed before the event is complete. Ambushing the militia at the Heath is guaranteed to draw their attention and disrupt the bonding event. As we do not know if another such opportunity will arise again, we cannot take such a risk."

You certainly have high standards Voice, I think to myself while frowning in consternation. Still, I am not yet out of ideas. 

"Show me the route from the airport to the Heath." I instruct The Voice. The Voice obliges as the relevant roads between the two locations are highlighted in red. So, multiple possible routes, but all of them require the militia to drive along a particular stretch of highway. A plan forms in my mind, but it would depend on whether The Voice can supply me with the needed kit. 

"Can you track the progress of the militia once they begin their journey to the Heath?" I query The Voice while clicking idly on that stretch of highway. 

"Of course." The Voice's responds patronizingly. 

I pull up the laptop's search engine and enter the description of the kit I need asking, "Can you spawn me that, in the time available to us?"

The Voice considers for a moment before laughing, "I see. Most certainly. I am bringing the cab to pick you up now. Let us get you outfitted right away."

The cab drops me off at an abandoned store on one of the side streets in the Dreaming Spires District. The store looks like it had been left abandoned for some time with its papered up windows and the fine layer of dust coating the doorknob of the entrance. I hear the telltale click of the door unlocking and step inside without delay. 

"Another one of your places of power?" I ask The Voice. 

The Voice replies, "Yes. I maintain several throughout The City. I have spawned the equipment you have requested within. Have a look."

I cover my mouth and nose as my footsteps stir up the dust on the floor as I smile to myself. At the center of the bare room sits a large bike painted in the colors and insignia of the Ordinary Police. And lying neatly by the bike's front wheel is the other bit of kit that I had requested. The uniform and gear of an ORPO highway patrolman. 

I take a moment to inspect the bike and ask, "So with this I would be indistinguishable from an actual cop?" My hand strokes the smooth curves of the machine appreciatively. 

The Voice says, "Yes. All this equipment is no different from the real thing. Never mind the militia, an actual ORPO officer would not be able to tell the difference."

I nod and begin donning the white ORPO uniform laid out on the floor. I then proceed snap on the stab vest and wear the high visibility police jacket over it. White gloves go over my hands. I finish by switching my shoes for the hard leather boots that go with the uniform. I can't check my appearance, but everything feels like a perfect fit.

Next, I begin loading the equipment belt with the other gear that The Voice had prepared for me. Handcuffs, radio, retractable baton traced with odd engravings and a Shockmaster brand stun gun.  No actual firearms. How odd.

"Why no actual guns?" I ask The Voice as I load the two shot stun gun with prongs and fiddle with the integrated laser pointer. If ORPO can afford such a fancy stun gun, surely they can provide actual firearms to their officers. 

"Politics." The Voice explains, "There have been worries regarding ORPO's professionalism and all lethal weapons have been taken away from their arsenal. At any rate, guns are not particularly effective against the spiritually trained. Bullets do not carry enough magic to quickly break defensive spells."

"So guns are useless then?" I ask. Figures given the setting of this world. 

"No. Guns can kill as long as you shoot someone enough times with it. You just can kill someone a lot faster with a magic sword than with a gun." The Voice explains. 

"And this baton? Its magical?" I ask, examining the tracing that had been carved into the baton. 

The Voice affirms, "Yes. An enchantment that helps to stun your opponents. The baton also carries its own magical power source in its shaft that activates the enchantment on impact. So do not go around slapping the baton in the palm of your hand. It would be most embarrassing."

I retract the baton and holster it in the belt. "Why is it set up that way though? Sounds dangerous to the user."

"Most ORPO officers are mundane humans. They do not have the spirituality to activate magical weapons. The standard issue baton was designed in a way to allow a complete mundane to use it effectively." The Voice rasps. 

"How much time do we have left before the militia begins their journey from the airport?" I query. 

The Voice rumbles, "Around an hour. I have considered the plan you presented to me during the cab ride. I have no objections to it. However I wish to spend the remaining time left refining the plan with you. Now start from the top."

 They all assumed that some major celebrity had arrived in Jiangnan City, but they were even more confused upon looking at the crowd of people, reading the banners and hearing their shouting.
 Lu Li's name wasn't that unusual, but who was Fat Monkey? Were they all cheering for a monkey? A fat monkey? Some of these people had brought their children with them, and these children all knew about the game, even if they didn't play it. Their parents soon found out from them what Ruling Sword was all about.
 They were just playing a game; there was no cause for public celebration.
The parents then found out that they had won a major tournament. Some of them reminisced about the time they had won a football competition while representing a city, but even they didn't celebrate victory in such an exaggerated fashion.
 When a group of lion dancers appeared outside the airport under the city's banner, these people were surprised to see how much Ruling Sword was valued.
 Generally speaking, if something important happened, there would be a brief city council member appearance. After this, the event would be left to the media reporters. Today, there was a very long line up of council members and several people that often appeared on TV were present.
 Regardless of whether they were fans or not, they had all appeared in advance. These official figures had waited for the aircraft to land…
 Lu Li didn't expect so many people to be welcoming him and the lion dance was quite overwhelming. However, this was human nature and he had lived at the bottom of society long enough to know not to offend anyone. As such, he immediately made a very moving gesture towards the city council.
 In all his years, Lu Li had never seen the head of the Jiangnan City TV station in person, but now, he was here. 
 "You've suffered to be here. Thank you." 
 This man was in his thirties to forties. He was accustomed to getting up early in the morning, but not to go to the airport to wait for a group of young people after they had played their games.
 Lu Li almost recklessly blurted out an indiscreet remark, but he stopped himself just in time. 
 "Everyone had worked hard for this, but there are still matches to be played. It's too early to talk about winning or losing."
 "Don't you know?" an acquaintance with gold glasses next to him asked. It was the secretary who often dealt with Ruling Sword. "Glory Capital already declared their loss this morning. Once the formalities are completed, you will become the champions."
 Lu Li was instantly dumbfounded by this revelation. 
 The matter was actually not that complicated. Lu Li announced at the press conference that he would choose the snow map again to prove to everyone that it wasn't chance that had determined the result of the match. However, the odds were too great and Glory Capital felt as though they couldn't make up the difference.
 Once Ruling Sword defeated Glory Capital for the second time in the snow map, no one would be able to question their championship title.
 Instead, Glory Capital decided to maintain their morale and admit defeat. They weren't desperately in need of a win, and at least they had left some questions unanswered.
 Glory Capital had no intention of allowing Ruling Sword to succeed either. 
 This morning, when Lu Li was on the way back, their spokesperson announced that they wouldn't be fighting in the away matches.
 How shameless!
 Lu Li felt helpless. This giant guild had completely refused his challenge, and he felt like it was quite a petty move.


He had never invested in shares or bought a lottery ticket, and neither did he have any experience in the general business industry. Lu Li found that the only thing he could do was play games. 

Luckily he had experienced rebirth, and was one step ahead of everyone else. Luckily, games had been developing extremely quickly, and there were many people who had become rich through playing games.

As dawn broke, a moderate-sized aircraft landed in a nondescript Tennessee airport. From it descended about ten solemn-looking soldiers. Sticking out like a sore thumb amongst them was a conspicuously groomed, uncontrollably fidgeting teen.
The leader of the small company appeared to be a man of twenty-seven or twenty-eight, and he was focusing intently on reading the intricate device in his hands. After a long while, the man said, "We should be near by now. If we continue moving eastwards, in about two days' time, we should be there. Can someone hand me a map?"
A map was quickly unfolded and set on the floor. The rest congregated around it, spending quite some time charting their path before refolding it and putting it away. Then they stood up and prepared to move out.
"So, according to the map, there's a small town that we could stop at that's right outside of our destination, but the important thing now is to locate a serviceable car, because if it's possible, I’d like to reach our objective in under two days. Any extra time we save is useful because we have no information on the place; it might be a camp, or it could be a fortress, or anything in between." At that, the leader waved the group out of the airport to go search for cars.
The ragtag bunch of people was indeed the Black Star Unit, and the leader was naturally Yao Yuan. They had just spent one full day up in the air, or to be more precise, that and a short pit stop in Hawaii. The plane they were on was not strong enough to last the full trip over the Atlantic, so they picked Hawaii to stop for gas and maintenance.
Hawaii, like every other place in the world, was in a state of pandemonium, but luckily, the airport they landed in was far enough away from the general populace that it was still relatively functional. They even managed to procure additional fuel. However, because of that detour, they were a bit behind schedule in arriving at Tennessee.
Nevertheless, they managed to land successfully on Tennessean soil. As they left the airport, along the driveways were already a bunch of stranded cars ripe for picking. As luck would have it, the airport they came out of was in the middle of downtown. There were even still surviving American families bunkering in neighboring buildings. The Tennesseans, though, knew trouble when they spotted it. Yao Yuan's team was too heavily equipped and too proficient in their movement to be mistaken as your run-of-the-mill army soldiers. Even armed, the Tennesseans knew that this was a group that wouldn't be taken advantage of and thus opted for flight instead of fight.
And just like that, Yao Yuan's team hitched a ride out of town without much of a fuss. As they went on the freeway, their speed picked up considerably because the roads became much broader and thus the number of vehicles blocking their way become fewer in between. The result was that they came upon the town that bordered their destination earlier than previously calculated.
It was the quintessence of a pioneer's home-front; a small dwelling for a similarly small population. What was weird about the place though was that there wasn't any sign of human beings, not even those of the dead that they'd come to expect. It was as if the whole town was preserved in time, minus the populace. There was no sign of destruction nor of chaos; it was an incongruously idyllic hamlet compared to the devastation they had witnessed along the way. The effect was… unsettling, to say the least.
Yao Yuan sensed that something was wrong, so he immediately went into action. As he leapt down from his seat, he signaled his commands. The rest quickly fell into action. Yao Yuan led two other agents into the town to scout, Ying and his partner scrambled up to the roof of the car to set up their scopes, while everyone else spread out to secure the perimeter.
There was a pair though that had remained still among the flurry of activities, and that was Zhang Heng and his caretaker, Guang Zhen. Surveying the peaceful scene around them, Zhang Heng couldn't fathom the need for all these security measures. Finally, he asked Guang Zhen, "What's wrong with everybody? We finally found a town that's intact, so we should immediately drive in and go look for food first, right? Don't you people ever go hungry?"
Without turning his head away from the spot Yao Yuan had disappeared to, Guang Zhen replied, "There's something very odd about this town. There shall be no hasty movements before Ol' Cap'n Yao returns with his scouting report."
Guang Zhen's answer befuddled Zhang Heng, and so he quizzed, "Odd? What's so odd about this place? It looks so peaceful here. Open cemeteries aren't odd for you people but this place is…? Maybe the people have simply packed up and left. Have you guys thought about that?"
Guang Zhen whipped his head around and stared sternly at Zhang Heng for his folly, his displeasure with the kid's ridiculous hair further fueling his irritation. The sudden burst of ire had a shrinking effect on Zhang Heng, who stumbled a few steps back before wobbling to the ground. Seeing as the kid almost burst into tears, Guang Zhen reined in his exasperation and condescendingly said, "Everything's not as simple as you think, kid. The fact that the world's ending in eight months is public knowledge now. Facing certain death without assurance from the government who had long ago forsaken everyone, how many percent of the public do you think can maintain their sanity? My guess, and I'm guessing yours too, would be only a small percentage right? This town has at least a minimum of, let's say, 10000 people… what do you think are the chances that those 10000 people are all a part of that small percentage?
And as you can see before you, there are no blissfully carefree townsfolk mulling about; they've disappeared without a trace it would seem. Why do you think that's so?"
As color returned to his face, Zhang Heng subconsciously echoed, "Why?"
"Wipeout, massacre, migration, or… most possibly, we have a trap before us!"
At that response, all of the color that had previously returned to Zhang Heng slowly seeped away. Wipeout… Massacre… Trap… none of these were terms were part of his everyday vocabulary, much less his everyday life. To have landed in such possibilities as a normal teen, a mere nobody, he… was stunned into speechlessness.
Luckily, reality wasn't as bad as Guang Zhen thought. Not long after, Yao Yuan returned with everyone else. There weren't traps in town nor were there signs of bioterrorism or radiation. There were no literal skeletons hiding in the closet. The fact was that their search didn’t even turn up one dead body. However, Yao Yuan did manage to solve the mystery of the curated town. The answer came to him when his exploration came upon a fast-food restaurant. After his investigating it, he knew that the town was considerably safe, so he finally relaxed.
Based on the degree of decomposition of the food in the restaurant, it had been at least two months since the town had had human contact. In other words, the townspeople most likely were evacuated around then. Yao Yuan's deduction was that the evacuation was carried out due to the town's proximity to the secret base. To safeguard the secrecy of the spacecraft and its operations, the townspeople had to be moved.
"Or at least that's my speculation," explained Yao Yuan, between bites of canned food that they had retrieved from around town. "Of course, this is not to exclude the possibility of a secret wipeout. In any case, it's all in the past, so it doesn't concern us. Let's finish our meal and get to that base immediately. I've had a bad taste in my mouth all day. It feels like the biggest hurdle has yet to come."
And so, the team wrapped up their quick dinner and moved on their expedient way towards the locale pinpointed by the coordinates. After a few more hours on the freeway, they veered into a side lane that was attached to an outpost. Naturally, it was deserted. As they carried on, they passed through more outposts that were similarly empty. Finally, at around three in the early morning, they arrived at the spot where their map had painted as a mountainous, barren wasteland. Imagine their surprise and consternation when in reality they had driven into a secluded mountain valley.
As the team passed through the final outpost, the scene that greeted them put everyone on edge. The concrete floor before them was pockmarked with explosive shrapnel and bullet holes, and equally disheartening was the presence of a few dead bodies and what would appear to be spherical parts from some mechanical remains. The bodies were fresh kills; they had fallen only yesterday or the day before that.
"Be on alert! Ying, prepare to snipe; Lee, you're with me; Wong, take the rest and secure the perimeter! Ebon1, cover us!"
Right after he issued the commands, Yao Yuan slipped out through the car window and dashed to the nearest cadaver. He felt the inert body before taking a whiff of its blood to help procure a rudimentary reading of the situation. A few seconds later, as his team fell in place, he started to take careful steps toward the spherical object.
As Yao Yuan investigated the strange machinery, Lee and one other scout moved ahead for further exploration. Within 30 seconds, a shrill eagle's call came from the pair, which gave everyone a millisecond-long daze before they trained weapons at the call's direction. However, the call quickly transformed into a more mellifluous quail's birdsong, and without hesitation, Yao Yuan instantly headed its way.
A few hundred meters’ jog later, Yao Yuan spotted a bloody figure grasping for breath up against one of the fortress walls. As he moved closer, he confirmed that the figure was a heavily-built man with bushy brows and large eyes. Despite preliminary bandage work, a copious amount of blood was free-flowing from his chest and stomach. It didn't take long for him to lose consciousness, either from passing out… or from death.
Upon closer examination, recognition dawned on Yao Yuan. The man was his old nemesis, the leader of the Dragon Prosper squad. Yao Yuan promptly retrieved bottled water from his backpack and poured it down the man's throat. As the man coughed up the liquid, he hazily opened his eyes. Quite some time passed before he could get them to focus on Yao Yuan's face.
"Yao… Yao Yuan? How can you be there? This is Tenne…" asked the man in shock, but before long, that shock turned into a booming howl. "Of course, I should have known that those bastards would have tipped you off on this place as well. Yes, it's true, there's indeed a spacecraft locked behind these walls, the very last one. But alas, it's so close yet so far. This thing here is impenetrable; it's on complete lockdown and the passwords they gave us were all false! They initiated the automated defense protocol. It's a bloody trap and my squad walked right into it!" At this point, the gravitas that had appeared moments before from seeing his nemesis had run its course, and as his breath slowed, the man lamented, in a dwindling voice, "To think of the unspeakable things that we've done for them… and this is how they repay us… How typical… But fear not… Yao Yuan… I shall reserve some seats for the Black Star Unit down below… I'll see you then…" As he uttered those words, the man bled out.
After paying his final respects to his once formidable opponent, Yao Yuan collected himself. As he stood up, he addressed the gathered group. "Alright, team, it's going to be a harsh battle ahead. I want everyone to be ready with their weapons and ammo. And prep Zhang Heng with the laptop and hacking equipment. We're going to storm this base… And remember, as the Black Star Unit, we are not given the choice to fail!"
"FOR GLORY!"
"OR FOR DEATH!" rallied the group before charging into the ominously dark entrance of the base with Yao Yuan leading the way. That is… other than Zhang Heng, who was still unfamiliar with the group's dynamic. He fell behind after stumbling a few paces.

"Fool. Who do you think Lu Zhanbei is? Nobody knows what he has hidden behind the scenes!"

Lu Zhanbei closed his eyes to rest. After traveling on the bumpy mountain road for two hours, he arrived at a private airport.
A few people cautiously took Lu Zhanbei up a plane. This plane would head to Qi Junze's base camp directly. 
To be on the safe side, they used an instrument to scan Lu Zhanbei's body. After confirming that he had nothing, they relaxed.
As the hatch was about to close, Lu Zhanbei gazed deeply at that abandoned van.
As long as Gu Mo finds this, he could find him via the flight information on the route.
This was the only flaw.

Gu Mo didn't know that Lu Zhanbei had placed such high hopes on himself.
As he stayed alert in Yun Mansion, he waited for news.
However, Lu Zhanbei didn't return even after the sky had turned dark.
He was feeling anxious when Shen Zhiyi and Ruan Baoer arrived.
Ruan Baoer asked hurriedly, "I heard from Si Han that Sister Ball has been kidnapped. What's the situation now?"
Gu Mo repeated what happened to them succinctly.
Hearing that Lu Zhanbei was already on the way to save Lin Wanwan, Ruan Baoer heaved a sigh of relief.
However, Shen Zhiyi sensed that something was amiss. How was it possible to find a needle in a haystack within a short period of time?
Unless Lu Zhanbei was threatened by Qi Junze and chose to walk straight into his trap!
After Shen Zhiyi didn't manage to have the call connect to Lu Zhanbei, she immediately got Gu Mo to contact Mo Jiushang and ask about the situation.
However, Mo Jiushang's answer made him stand rooted to the ground.
"He never asked me to coordinate with him on anything."
Everyone understood it now.
"Lu Zhanbei, this a*shole!" Shen Zhiyi squeezed her eyebrows tighter. 
The situation was chaotic enough and he had to add fuel to the flames.
Once he was captured, Wanwan the bait would become a sacrificial piece and they would be in greater danger.
Shen Zhiyi didn't believe that Lu Zhanbei didn't understand that. She could only say that he cared about Lin Wanwan too much and was worried that if he didn't follow suit, Qi Junze would be angered.
"I'll go and find Sir now!" Gu Mo hated himself to death for actually not stopping Lu Zhanbei before. He rushed out.
"Gu Mo, stop panicking first. We don't even know where he is now. How do we find him?"
Shen Zhiyi forced herself to calm down.
"Where was the last place Zhanbei stayed before he left?"
"Study room!"
Upon hearing this, Shen Zhiyi immediately rushed upstairs.
Lu Zhanbei wasn't a fool who was brave but lacked wisdom and tact. Even if he were to walk straight into a trap, he should have left some information behind.
Very quickly, Shen Zhiyi found the second card left behind by Lu Zhanbei on the study table. There was an address on it.
Gu Mo immediately prepared to bring over some men but was stopped by Shen Zhiyi.
"It's not that simple. Zhanbei must have been transferred around."
"Then what should we do?"
"Continue searching."
Not too long later, Shen Zhiyi, who'd rummaged through the drawers, found a signal receiver. A hint of joy flashed past her face.
This was it!
"How do we use this?"
"Let me try."
Mo Jiushang, who rushed over, was being his usual lazy self. He opened the laptop on the table and linked it to the receiver.
As his hands leaped fast, a topographic map appeared quickly on the screen. There was a glowing red dot on the map. 
Shen Zhiyi leaned over and recognized it. "This seems to be a private airport in Donghai City." 
Lu Zhanbei must have secretly hidden this location device when he was being brought up the car.

When I go back, I can't be sure that all of my actions will follow the same path. In this timeline, the timekeeper can't kill me. He won't waste any of the 100 minutes here. When I woke up, I asked Kang Si An to help me go to the C country. He didn't ask me many questions. He must have figured that I need to go there.

"You are able to get this so fast. How much did you spend on this?"

"Pay me back by not dying in the past." He tilts his head down. "By the way, why can't I come with you?"

"Your face will attract attention." 

"I will wear a disguise." He looks at me with puppy eyes. "Take me with you."

"Kang Si An, do you want me to change the future or not?" I ask him sternly.

"You know the answer." He grumbles. 

"You told me to do anything to change it." I sigh and put down the fake documents. "I don't know whether I will succeed or not. If I succeed, you might never meet me and the past might change. You might never fall in love with me again. Is it worth it if I have to lose you?"

Kang Si An eyes me solemnly. "Don't think about me. You and I are inevitable to happen."

I grin at him. "You are so sure."

He smiles at me. "Even if we don't meet like the way we did, you are already in love with me. Can you leave me be?"

He knows me so well. "Kang Si An, you know that I love you."

"I know." He cups my face and kisses me. "Don't abandon me after changing the past, alright? I won't forgive you if you do that."

I don't want to leave this person. A small part of me wants to go back and do everything the way it happened. But, I can't. I won't let Li Jun die like that. I won't leave Kang Si An alone to live alone like this. 

"I will find you," I promise him. "I will make you fall in love with me again."

I arrive at the modern c country at next morning. In the next four days, I have to find that cave again.  After another six hours of travel, I arrive at the goddamn mountains. It's a famous tourist spot now. It makes my life both easy and hard. 

It took 8 months to travel through the forest and climb that mountain. Li Jun only had half of the map and we lost ways many times before we found the place. Now, it takes less than 10 hours to get here from the airport. 

It's already dark when I reach the station. I stay at the local inn for the night. I remember the map from Kang Si An's memory and compare it with the modern map. I pinpoint the location of the cave to a certain area. Are four days enough to find it? It doesn't hurt to try.

At dawn, I leave the inn. I notice that there are a lot of foreigners. I stand in the queue to get on the elevator to the mountain top. Three days are not enough to climb this damned mountain on feet for someone like me.

I reach the mountain peak. I separate from the crowd and follow the path. Though things have certainly changed in the years, some parts manage to stay the same. Maybe, they look the same. After a few hours, my confidence begins to fade. 

"Is it here, Sam?" I hide behind the tree when I hear the voice. "We have been traveling for days."

Who is here to explore the godforsaken part of this mountain like me? I see two men in khaki clothes walking toward me. They haven't seen me. 

"It should be here, Javed." Sam looks at the map and frowns. "All the keepers dreamt about the flowers. Why are we chosen to harvest it?"

"Our luck is pretty bad." 

They don't look happy about it. It seems like harvesting that crystal won't be easy. My luck isn't good either. The vines. The man-eater plant. The poisonous moss. What else is there inside? Anyway, that plant is dying today. 

"Did you hear that another anomaly is born?" Sam lights a cigarette. "The higher-ups are going crazy. I don't know the details. That's why they asked us to harvest this time crystal as soon as possible."

"Is it a time-traveler again?" Javed curses loudly. "I guess the time-traveler hasn't returned to the past yet. Otherwise, we wouldn't be here."

"I heard that two crossroads were taken care of. The last one... " Sam sighs. "It's a pain in the arse to redo everything each time the timeline is destroyed by a time-traveler. Why can't we just kill them when they are born?"

"They also have a role to play in time." Javed takes a smoke. "If we manage to harvest the time crystal flower before the timeline is destroyed, we will have one more time crystal flower to harvest in the new timeline."

They haven't realized that a time-traveler is following them. I wonder how Kang Si An is different from these keepers. These two men look like ordinary people. The sky turns orange. We finally reach the place. The cave is blocked by a huge boulder. Sam sprinkles the white powder on the boulder. In the next 30 seconds, the boulder melts to nothing. They talk about how they are going to invest better when the timeline is destroyed. I shake my head. The keepers also take advantage of the time turn. 

I have been lucky so far. I walk inside the cave after five minutes. The moss on the wall is thicker. The familiar ominous feeling is strong. The keepers aren't talking anymore. They are spraying something in the air as they walk into the depth of the cave. The moss is disintegrating on its own. The vines are shying away from the walls. Whatever they are spraying in the air, the maneater plant doesn't like it. 

They try to push open the metal door. The golden rays are coming out. The time crystal flower is shining regally. 

"Wasn't the way too easy?" Sam asks nervously. "I feel like we are being watched."

"It likes eating humans." Javed looks at the plant with disgust. "The preys are walking to the predator on their own feet. The way is easy."

"If we die, we won't even have a funeral." Sam steps away from the metal door.

"Why are you afraid?" Javed laughs. "The time-traveler will change the timeline. We will be alive again."

"That doesn't mean that I like being eaten by a plant." Sam looks at the silver dagger in his hand. "It's a high ranked time crystal plant. I heard that it's more than three millennia old. The last harvest killed more than a dozen people."

"A thousand years ago, they didn't have the technology that we have now." Javed takes a deep breath. "Remember that we can't harm it. We only need the time crystal flower."

"It's for me, my name is Cesar Morales.  And my family is telling to go to the airport if I ever made it here" Cesar explained

"Okay then Cesar, what do you want to do?" Bayek asked taking a seat on the couch.
"We'll somethings obviously wrong around here. And we came for my family, maybe we can have our cake and eat it too if we go to the airport" 

Bayek smiled and looked at the crew "alright, airport it is. And if any of you don't like it. Stay here"

Bayek pushed himself up from the coach and went back to the vehicles. While, everyone was making their way out, Cesar when up stairs to room, and began to look around. Inside of the drawer of a nightstand. Cesar pulled out a necklace, it was pendant of Nuestra Señora de la Santa Muerte, Santa Muerte, Lady of the Death, it was meant for protection. 

Holding the pendant up to eye level, it spun and the rays of bounce off of it, creating a natural strobe light. Focused on the pendant, Cesar fell in a trance.

---Flash Back---

A beautiful brown skinned woman, laying on the chest of a young Cesar with tear cascading down her flushed cheeks, Cesar held her close and whispered words of comfort in an attempt to calm her down. 
The scene flashed to moments of happiness , the woman's hair blew in the wind and smile that shined even in the darkest of nights. The woman danced around the front lawn. And Pulled a young Cesar to join her. The world seem so serene and peaceful.

The image flashed again, to a blossoming spring and intimate entanglement between the two. Passion, lust, Carnality, love, drilled its way into Cesar heart again. When the youthful tryst had ended, the couple rested while remaining in each other's embrace . Cesar pulled out a Santa Muerte pendent put it around her neck, placing a soft linger kiss on her forehead.

-Flashback end---

"Cesar, she'll be okay… Raul and Nadia, Abuela. They're all fine. But we need to get to the airport if we want to see them again" Miranda walked in the room and wrapped arms around the worried Cesar.

Clutching the pendant, Cesar stuffed it in his pocket  "I know…come on, we should go"

Cesar led the way to the airport; he was from Birmingham and knew his way around the city without the need for a map. It made things faster. Deeper into the city, the scene began to change. It was finally beginning to look like the apocalypse 

"Stop" Bayek ordered of the radio
"The road is blocked ahead; I can sense it. We need to find another way, Or a smaller group of walkers." He explained.

"I think I know a way around it, if the LMTVs can fit" Cesar replied
"Let's do it then. But we need to make it quick. The sun is going down" 

Down a small alley the convoy went. It was just wide enough for the LMTV's to fit through. When the convoy arrived on the other side the pushed. But running into walkers was just investable. Bayek had theory that when one of them died, if others were close enough, then they could sense it. But, regardless of that fact, Bayek ran them over anyway. It had to be done, no matter the future consequences.

The Birmingham hospital was a nice size. Big enough to where if a group wanted to settle it had to be one hell of a gathering. And that's exactly what it was.


-3 days ago Birmingham Airport- 

While Bayek and his group was on their way to the airport, invents were getting worse at the airport

"Captain we have another, and it's bad this time"
"Them put the fucker down or everyone at this base dies."
The young solider snapped to attention "yes, sir"

For the past couple of weeks, the walker activity had been ramping up, Soldiers and civilian fighters out on patrol began to find themselves in tight spots. Currently there was four hundred plus people, settled at the Birmingham airport. So, when a group came back one day from barely surviving a horde attack. Two soldiers began showing signs of evolution. They had pushed their bodies past their physical limits. Being desk soldier before the outbreak, their limits were low, but it was surpassed all the same.

Seeing this, the Captain of the unit, defending the Airport believed them to be infected, ordering their execution. It was business as usual until more and more people began to show signs. When the leaders of the airport began to realize there were no bite marks present on the 'infected' they believed the virus had become airborne. Once the information of their theory leaked. Chaos started to brew. The captain used this as an opportunity to exert total control over the growing population. Executing whoever went against his law.

But this didn't stop the evolution of fighters, people began escaping , stealing food and supplies, this left gaps in the perimeter and led to walker attacks. When the captain saw that the airport was falling , he ordered his soldiers to begin packing up so they could leave falling safe haven. However, the never suspected arrival of so many walkers so fast and the survivors didn't stop coming. Which only led to the increase of walker population. 

It's been a week since the horde gathered at the airport, food was running low, ammunition, and fighters were still evolving, and because of ignorance, the number of fighters began to decrease.

In the middle of the Airport, the Captain had called a general meeting. In front of the crowd a military doctor stood up holding a protective mask.

"From my personal experience as a doctor of 10 years. I believe the infection to be in droplet form. That means that it is airborne but, the virus can only survive in the air for ten minutes, six to at meters away from the host. Sneezing and cough is how its spreading. So as long as you where the mask and report any sings of early infected. We can make it through this!"

The doctor looked over at the Captain and nodded his head. "keep an eye out for black veins, sweating, excessive sleeping. And discoloration of the eyes."

Taking a step forward. " Now we need volunteers to fight, so that we can get everyone out of this place. Food is running low. And we need more fighters, to get more food and supplies, then we can break through the horde" the captain looked around for any volunteers

Many men and woman stepped forward as volunteers, they all had family and loved ones they wanted to protect. And staying in an airport that was running low on food was not an option, they had to step up to the plate.

Towards the back of the crowd a man with his wife and daughter could be seen holding each other
"Listen to me Yalissa, if I don't come back. Get Nadia and Abulea to that place. Take what you can leave. It's going to be dangerous out there. But you two need to protect each other and Abulea, Okay?" 

With tears in her eyes, his daughter refused to let him go. Pulling her closer in a tighter embrace. The man slid a small Glock into her pants "Look at me Nadia, you are beautiful girl and I am so proud to be your father. But, your seventeen now. Your old enough and strong enough to be able to use that.  When your uncle Cesar and I got our first. We were two years younger. Now I need you to be even stronger, and protect your family now, entiéndeme?"

"sí" she replied, whipping tears from he eyes. 

-Present day Birmingham-


" God Damn it! This way is backed up as well. for the next three miles at least" Bayek radioed the convoy. "Pull over. We need to talk?"
