It’s true that fleshing out the story is going to help, I believe it to be more beneficial to not loose track of what you are writing. Don’t give up the momentum. Make it a side project while you continue the story. Maybe at a slower pace.
So, here's the thing: I want to know your thoughts. Should I rewrite those chapters to make them more engaging and detailed? If I do, it will take some time, but I'm committed to improving the story if that's what you want.
