65% Madara in the Avatar World / Chapter 51: Red Clouds can be Dangerous

章節 51: Red Clouds can be Dangerous

Less than a minute has passed, and through the Sharingan, Madara could spot Zuko's ship already preparing to turn back towards the Earth Kingdom.

Looking towards another spot, he can clearly see Sokka's gobsmacked face.

'Gosh he has almost as much of a punchable face as Jackie… '

Then scanning fast, he can spot a worried Katara, 'Typical', and a hyperactive Avatar, staring in his direction with excited eyes and a huge smile. 'Even more typical….' He couldn't help but chuckle at their reaction.

Immediately he dismisses the flames on the red cloud, forcing the heat to spread toward the sea of clouds surrounding the vicinity, completely hiding his position once more.

It may look like he was showing off, but that's not quite it. He knew how the events transpired, Zuko would follow Aang alone, Zhao would follow Zuko and everything would end up well due to plot armor.

The point is… Zuko now isn't the same Zuko, he is more careful and stronger, yes, but he is also more confident in his skills, especially after the Agni Kai. Madara obviously knew about it, he is second in wealth only to the Beifongs at this point, and as his old pal Lao used to say… "Having money gives you the power to disregard many things."

One of them is the barrier of information, which Madara has been investing heavily for a year now, he might not have that much control over the Earth Kingdom, but the Western most area of the Earth Kingdom is already "his land", the King can enjoy his life in Ba Sing Se, Madara had no desire for it, but this region is already in his pocket.

'And with it… Comes the ownership of at least half of the future Republic City lands!'

He couldn't help but grin at that thought, until his gaze turned downwards, towards the Fire Navy blockade, toward one man in specific...

"Zhao…" his serene and somewhat playful expression disappeared instantly as he walked toward the edge of the platform, staring down as the heated clouds started to darken due to the change in temperature.

Extending his right hand and all his fingers, as if he was holding a ball, a circle of lightning cracked, connecting all his five fingers, rotating at a blinding speed.

"… And just like that… you would die… no one would even know how… not even yourself…"

His tomoe spun slowly, impacted by his anger.

A sound of thunder echoed through the skies, rain slowly fell on this region of the blockade as lightning kept circling, connecting his fingertips, almost as if he was charging a ki blast from Dragonball.

"… No…"

The lightning in his hand dispersed as he lowered his hand, staring down at Zhao's ship as his Sharingan worked as a scope, zooming in on Zhao's confused face 'the fucker doesn't even know what's happening or who is above his head with a sharpened blade right now…' Madara sneered.

"That's not how I want you to die… I want to see you with despair and hopelessness… I want to crush all of your efforts and plans… and after, to see everything that you worked for evaporate in front of your eyes until you finally see how worthless your existence is… only then… you have my permission to die…"

Madara's voice was low and stern, he didn't want to kill off Zhao like this, with an instant airstrike that wouldn't even be felt. 'He will have to suffer for almost killing my little sister and tarnishing the best battle I had by fleeing cowardly…'

According to his intel, Zhao would target Zuko way more harshly than before, he was humiliated in front of his soldiers. During canon he also lost, yes, but it was Iroh stopped him, it was Iroh who gave him the final words, not Zuko… but this time…

"I bet you want to kill Zuko way more than you would've wanted during canon, eh?"

Not only that, by killing Zhao right now it would create an issue… the one to replace him during the siege of the Northern Water Tribe would probably be Azula.

'Crazy bitch…'

Azula might be many things, but an idiot she is not. Madara has no doubt that she might even be able to pull a win over the Northern Water Tribe. That girl captured Ba Sing Se while bringing only her two teenage friends from the Fire Nation as aid, subduing Dai Li and conquering the unconquered capital of the Earth Kingdom without any apparent effort.

"Neither Aang nor Zuko is prepared to face her yet, at least during Book 2 when she appeared… Aang was already proficient with both Water and Airbending, and Katara stopped being a useless waste of oxygen after being taught by Pa-…. That fucking bastard…" His eyes narrowed as a natural lightning went down, hitting absolutely nothing but it gave Madara a plan anyway.

'But I can't let you go without suffering a loss here… Little Zhao…' he grinned as he pointed two fingers towards Zhao's ship and took a deep breath, using his Sharingan to have a near perfect aim.

"Enjoy your time swimming…" As his grin grew more and more evil, a heavy electric discharge escaped his fingertips, crossing the sky while aiming toward a specific ship.

Below the stormy clouds, the Fire Nation Navy was clearly confused about how the rain started in the first place and it was even worse for Zhao who saw the Avatar using the darkened clouds to hide their position from his sight.

'Of all times! Why did it have to rain just now?!' He couldn't understand, although cloudy, there was no hint of rain for the next few hours, not according to the specialist that they kept in their ranks to always monitor the climate changes, as they had to always be prepared after all.

"Sir! We can't locate the Avatar and it seems that the ship coming towards us also retreated back towards the Earth Kingdom!" said the Captain, waiting for orders.

Zhao didn't reply, he simply kept staring at the skies trying to figure out the location of the Avatar, but he couldn't, the rain ruined their plan to strike him down with fire.

Because of the location of Madara in the skies, almost no soldier spotted the quick appearance of the red cloud. He was already over them, while both Aang and Zuko were still coming from the east. Obviously, all the soldiers were paying attention to the East because of that.

Only Zuko who had the advantage of position and line of sight could see them from below. Aang could as well, but he was also in the skies, almost at the same height as Madara's airship.

As natural lightning ran through the clouds, Zhao gave up on trying to spot the Avatar and moved on with his next plan.

"Prepare To-"

But before he could complete his command, a powerful lightning bolt descended and crashed right into their engine room, not only causing massive damage to the overall structure of the ship, but it also created a chain reaction by igniting all of the flammable materials that were on board.

The ship trembled until an explosion occurred from within.

"ABANDON THE SHIP!" shouted Zhao in panic as he jumped into the sea.

Not even ten seconds after Zhao reached the water the ship exploded, sending debris all over and not only killing a significant number of soldiers but also injuring many more.

Zhao, after waiting for the explosion to subside, finally emerged from the water with a pained face 'Why?!' he was furious, this simple explosion was enough to buy the Avatar enough time to escape, and considering how long it would take to regroup with the other ships, five to ten minutes, his target would be long gone and the trail would be lost.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!" He shouted in fury, staring at the sky as if he was cursing the deity or spirit that cursed and ruined his plan, in one moment he had both the Avatar and the exiled Prince in his reach, in the other… he didn't even have a ship, how cruel fate is!

"How unlucky…" Sneered Zuko as he stared at the remains of the ship, almost commanding his men to turn back towards the Fire Nation waters once more to take advantage of the breach, but he managed to control himself.

Iroh on the other hand was staring at the billowing smoke of the destroyed ship while caressing his grey beard with one hand and with the other folded behind his back, an odd glint could be seen in his eyes if one paid enough attention to it, but he remained silent.

"Let's go, men!" shouted Zuko, "In half a day all the high ranks of the Fire Nation will be alerted to the Avatar's intrusion, he will be coming back and we will be ready to catch his trail!"

The old General turned towards Zuko with a smile on his face. 'You are learning to use your head, Zuko.'

"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YE DOING?!" Shouted Kaliya, sweating bullets while trying her damn best to keep the cloud around their ship from dispersing, which became even harder after Madara's little red cloud stunt.

Scratching the back of his head with an apologetic smile, Madara approached her "…. Er…. My apologies… It seems I overdid it…"

"OVERDID IT MY ASS!" She shouted in anger "I'VE BEEN HOLDING THIS CLOUD FOR OVER AN HOUR NOW, AND YE HAD TO MAKE IT HARDER FOR ME!"

She had a point, not only did the temperature increase make her control waiver, but it also caused her major discomfort which made it even harder to keep the required control to keep that kind of bending.

Avoiding the Northern Tribe girl's furious gaze, Madara placed his hands in his imaginary pockets "…I won't do it again…"

"I HARDLY DOUBT THAT!"

"Okay okay... I won't do it again in these circumstances, come on! We made a literal Red Cloud! We should be proud!"

"…."

Noticing that it would be better to wait until they reached an abandoned island before having that kind of talk, Madara tactically decided to walk inside in silence, avoiding any confrontation with his employee/lover.

As he walked inside and sat on a lavish and comfortable sofa chair in the control room, Nari eyed him up and down and asked.

"Why did you do that?"

"Do what?"

"You don't have to play dumb with me Mr. Uchiha, we've known each other for almost a decade now, and I know that although you are a showoff.. You wouldn't place such burdens on Kaliya just for the sake of it…"

Madara stared at Nari for a few seconds and sighed. "You know… Sometimes I miss the dumb old Jackie that didn't catch things that fast…"

Nari simply chuckled at that comment.

"Well... if you want to know… there was someone I wanted to kill, someone I wanted to protect, and someone that I wanted to mark with a striking first impression…."

"Oh?" Her eyebrows raised.

After spending a few minutes explaining who Zhao was and why he was on Madara's hit list, how Zuko would be in danger if he decided to venture inside the Fire Nation like a hotheaded idiot, and how important it would be for their future to have a unique first impression on the Avatar, Nari only had one question.

"Why didn't you kill him?"

"Not satisfying enough…"

"Mr. Uchiha, I am not my husband…"

"Sigh…" staring at the ceiling of the room he couldn't help but feel helpless when it came to the wits of this woman.

"Two reasons, one is that although I can control lightning like no one else due to my eyes… it's still hard to have a perfect aim on such a small target at long distances, lightning is a bit… wild… to aim properly… I don't think I could do so while being so far away…"

"And the second?"

".. Him dying now would make most of my plans useless and it would throw a variable in the equation, a very dangerous one at that…"

He didn't have to explain why he didn't just jump down and attack the Navy, it was obvious, this was a covert mission, the Fire Nation higher-ups were the last people on this planet that he wanted knowing that he left the Resort.

There's no doubt that they already figured out his identity and are bidding their time, the moment he leaves his metaphorical gold mine unprotected, they would launch an attack to take over it, they only haven't done so yet because the last ten times they tried last year ended up in disaster for them, with not a single agent coming back alive to tell the tale.

Noticing that Madara wouldn't explain any further, Nari didn't press him, simply returning to piloting the airship with a gentle smile on her lips.

"And where are we going from here?" she asked, trying to change the subject.

"To a northern island of the Fire Nation."

"Oh? And what would such a remote place have that made you take such a risk in coming here?" she asked, legit intrigued.

"There's a group of interesting warriors that live there… and they worship a couple of even more interesting beings…" A smile appeared on Madara's face. "Beings that I am looking forward to forming a good friendship with… at least one of them."

章節 52: Sun Island

Flying through the blue skies, free from any pursuit thanks to the storm clouds of hours back, Sokka and Katara sat up in the saddle while Aang remained lounging on Appa's head.

As time flies, the sky changes to a darker, sunset-filled evening. Appa becomes more and more visibly tired, it may seem that crossing the whole world while flying is a quick thing, but it's not, just crossing from the south-western coast of the earth kingdom to this place has taken almost a full day, and they barely reached the first few isles in the huge archipelago of the Fire Nation.

Eventually, Momo bounces up and down in eager surprise, as Aang shouts excitedly "There it is!"

Sokka and Katara pop up in the saddle as Aang continued to explain "The island where Roku's dragon took me!"

Crescent Island is a volcanic isle, it's named that way due to its crescent moon shape, it is located in the easternmost part of the Fire Nation, and it houses the legendary shrine to Avatar Roku. There was a single huge smoking volcano that could be seen right in the middle of it, with lava gently pouring down from the top to the sea.

As they descend to the isle, they spot a stone mountain that connects to an elegant, multi-story Fire Temple. Lava flows beneath the bridge and the air is thick with steam. Aang stands by Appa's head after they land at the base of the stone bridge, Katara stands by Aang's side while Sokka is stretching further away.

"You did it buddy. Nice flying!" Aang says with a huge smile while rubbing against Appa's head, the bison bellowed in satisfaction, rolling to the side to wave his three legs into the air lazily, with his tongue out and preparing for a well-deserved rest.

"You must be tired," Says Katara while smiling sweetly and rubbing his belly.

"Nah, I'm good!" Shouts Sokka from behind without paying attention to the duo

"Refreshed and ready to fight some firebenders!" he shouts while he continues to work out and flex his body.

"I was talking to Appa," says Katara dryly, while propping her hands on her hip.

Halting his exercise, Sokka turns around to see what is really happening

"Well….and I was talking to Momo!" he points to the lemur, clinging to a dead tree's branch.

As they cross the bridge, Sokka's eyes narrow as he keeps scanning the place with his eyes.

"I don't see any guards." He speaks.

"The Fire Nation must have abandoned the temple when Avatar Roku died." Answered Katara, not as worried as her brother.

As they enter an enormous chamber with fire-décor columns, the Avatar Team is shocked to see a group of five elderly men, wearing red robes and tall red hats, that address them "We are the Fire Sages. Guardians of the temple of the Avatar."

Speaks the one in the middle

Aang beams a smile "Great! I am the Avatar!"

"We know." the man replies, and together with the other four sages, he takes a deep breath before releasing a blast of fire in the direction of the three kids.

In the middle of a small rocky isle, far away from any civilization, a big airship can be seen. It stays within a ravine, protected from any boat's line of sight.

Inside the black colored Airship, two people can be seen playing some cards.

"And it seems that you lose again Madara! Blackjack." Nari speaks, with a gentle smile while Madara keeps frowning while looking at the table.

"You sure you don't cheat?" he raises an eyebrow in dissatisfaction, this woman seems to have a sixth sense when it comes to card games, too! It's not even funny!

"I would never cheat Madara, especially you," she said softly as she grabbed the cards and started to shuffle again. "Another one?"

"Nah I am good" he shook his head "I am rather happy that you are on my side when it comes to gambling and whatnot… having someone like you as a customer would dry our coffers…"

She giggles while hiding her mouth with the sleeve of her robes "Don't underestimate the clients, some of them are rather smart and tried to count cards many times, some succeeded many times."

"Yeah… but you succeed every time!" he replies while grabbing some sake and pouring it into a cup for himself, he would never offer it to Nari, as she doesn't drink.

"How long do you think she will take to wake up?" Ask Nari as she leans back, sipping her tea.

"I would say… eight to twelve hours… that's how long she takes after we…. Well….. you know…" he says while articulating with his free hand, which makes Nari giggle even more.

"Ahh, and I am sure that the level of exhaustion is the same…" she speaks sarcastically "How good it is to be young" she spoke with a motherly tone, which made Madara rather embarrassed, feeling like he was speaking about weird topics with his own mother.

A comfortable silence remained within the airship for several minutes, as cricket sounds echoes from outside, making it a rather relaxing evening on the inhabited island, far from the world.

"He might have reached there already…" speaks Madara as he lights up his kiseru, looking through the window.

"The Avatar? Where do you think he went?"

"The Avatar Roku Temple, most likely" Madara answers without looking at her "It's Winter Solstice and such events are heavily linked to the spiritual presence in our world, if I was a clueless Avatar Kid, in a world where everyone that I've ever known is long gone, I would seek counsel with the former Avatar, in this case… Roku…"

"It's rather interesting to know that spirits are in fact real… " Said Nari.

"Real… Scary… and Dangerous…" replied Madara with a solemn tone.

"Why is that?"

"Some spirits are good-natured, the Northern Water Tribe spirits are good, even Wan Shi Tong is nice if you know how to talk to them and have the patience… but some… some are not as much…"

"I always thought that the spirits exist for the sake of balance and co-existence." Said Nari with a rather thoughtful expression.

"Spirits are just like us humans, so obviously they have the good, the bad and the ugly… It's only natural."

"Lei told me that you mentioned the spirit world once, is it true that it exists?"

Don't look at Nari as if she was just a dutiful wife and a master at her work, she is one of the most studious and intelligent people that Madara had ever met in his two lives. 'If she was seventy years old I don't doubt for one second that she would be part of the White Lotus.. heh..'

"It does exist, it's just rather… complicated… to enter there."

"Will you ever let us know about it?"

"When the time comes… yes…" replied Madara with a tone of finality, he didn't even want to think about the spirits and their world right now, honestly, he is rather scared of the spirits… give him an army to solo and he will jump with a smile on his face, even if he loses, he will have no fear at all! But pit him against a spirit and he will be scared as hell.

The sky slowly gets darker and darker as the duo retired to their respective bedrooms.

As the dawn finally comes, the Airship soars in the skies once more, as it is rather a cloudy day, Kaliya doesn't really need to suffer such pressure again, they simply fly above the cloudy sea with no one to spot their location.

Madara requested that they really burn fuel to travel faster today, spending two days to reach their destination is the limit of his acceptance, and with a seven-day deadline he obviously didn't want to spend 90% of it just on travel, it would be a massive waste of time, and it's not like they lack fuel, the airship is stacked to the brim.

As the sun of the second day finally begins to set, the Red Cloud team finally spots the right island, it's not a huge island but rather far away from the Fire

Nation mainland.

From above everyone can see a vast ancient city right at the heart of the island, the architecture is something out of this world for both Kaliya and Nari, for Madara though… the city resembles ancient Mesopotamia, taking special influence from the Ziggurats, or "Tiered Pyramids" that takes inspiration from Mayan ruins in his old world.

"The city seems to be deserted, Boss." Speaks Kaliya as they scout the place from above.

"I doubt that, try to find a huge stairway leading to a platform that connects two mountains through a bridge…" his eyes narrow as he tries his best to remember the scenes from Avatar the Last Airbender.

"There!" Nari said loudly as she turned the ship westwards, it's rather easy to spot things from above considering that the whole place isn't that vast, and the description was very on point and stood out easily.

As the Airship lands a respectful distance from the connected twin mountains, Madara, Kaliya, and Nari walk down from their Airship to be greeted by a group of men and women dressed in very unique garments, sporting some tribal face paintings.

'They really have some heavy Aztec, Incan, and Mayan style… and their hairstyles are strikingly similar to Firecracker's current one… how curious…. Never made that connection before.' Thought Madara as he was approached by one man, who seemed to have more decoration, half of his face was painted in red, his black beard tied, and his head garments had some fluffy light-yellow fur spiked upwards, almost as if looking like a knock-off Super Saiyan.

"It's not every day that someone comes to our sacred land." The large man speaks, using a solemn tone to mask his true personality, everyone that watched the show would know that he is a rather polite and goofy person.

"Oh?" Madara smiled, he liked this man very much in the shows "It seems you all rather live in secrecy…" his tone was as solemn as the large man in front of him, making the tension even more intense, as everyone narrowed their eyes, especially the large man in front of him.

"Don't worry, I swear we won't tell anyone" Concluded Madara while nodding, still holding to his solemn tone.

There was an awkward pause in the air, the large man in the lead could only cough to disguise his awkwardness "We… appreciate your discretion..."

Madara's solemn face instantly morphed into a happy beaming smile as he walked forward and extended his hand while laughing "Hahaha, don't worry… it's nice to meet actual decent fellow firebenders! Name is Madara Uchiha by the way!"

The large man took a second to compose himself after feeling the instant shift in tone and beamed back, extending his large hand and shaking Madara's "The name is Song, I am the Chief of the Sun Warriors!"

The atmosphere became rather friendly after their introduction, and both Kaliya and Nari were also well received, the friendliness of these people is otherworldly, they don't care who you are or where you are from, as long as you respect them and treat them well, they treat you as honored guests, they even prepared a feast!

Both Madara and Sun Warrior Chief Song were drinking comfortably, Madara brought a lot of things to share with them after all, while most of the other Sun Warriors were dancing around a huge bonfire.

"Hahahaha, Chief Song, thank you very much for such a warm reception!" Said Madara while refilling his sake cup.

"I am the one to thank you!" Said the Chief with a huge goofy smile "You even brought some really good stuff for us!" He stood up and shouted, "From today onwards, I declare Madara and his team as friends of the Sun Warriors!"

"HURRAAAAAAAAAAAY!" everyone shouted as they drank expensive booze.

As the party went on, both Madara and Song became pals, drinking and joking around, laughing like there was no tomorrow.

"I am really happy to have come here! Look even Kaliya found herself a friend!"

He said while pointing towards one specific table where two women were having an arm-wrestling contest. On one end it was Kaliya, an exotic woman that actually got more attention from these men than she was comfortable with, and on the other, it was a tall sun-tanned beauty with long brown hair tied in a high ponytail and striking yellow eyes that matched her red and gold garments perfectly.

[Image Here, she is a somewhat canon character]

"Aye! That's my niece, Xi, good lass I tell you!" said Chief Song with a huge smile.

Nari on the other hand, stood in the midst of some mature women, all drinking tea instead of sake, it seemed that they all shared similar values, this place really screamed 'Harmony' like no other.

"Tell me my friend, what brought you to our isolated land?"

Taking a sip of his sake, Madara decided that it was time to say their goal "I came here to talk to the masters…"

Instantly the party went silent.

Hello there guys! here for the chapter of the day!

Honestly this chapter didn't really go as planned, i think i already told yall that i usually have events planned but how they come to pass depends on character interactions.

And sometimes interaction leads somewhere else, and it was with this case... i wanted to fast foward a bit, but decided against, for me Character Interactions are the Heart and Soul of any story, yes beating evil bad guy is the goal... but its the interactions between characters that make it or break it for me...

I also wanted to use this adventuring arc to display more of Nari's personality, she always came up as a dependable, lady-like woman, with a motherly aura, very inteligent and still somewhat kinky due to Jackie's PoV, but i wanted more than that, i wanted to add this curiosity towards the unknown, she is a very knowledgeable person, the Beifong wouldn't hire just a random person to teach Toph after all, so i wanted to add on "Why" she is like that, and the answer is.. she is a very curious woman regarding the more hidden and obscure knowledge of the world, so i took this as an opportunity to display her curiosity and increase the depth of her character.

Storytelling for me is a series of consequences, the boring stories are the ones that follow the "And" routine, its very common in Fanfictions where we are amateur writers and don't grasp the right writing skills yet... most Xianxias are like this "He gets into a new town, AND goes to the auction AND buys what he already knew it was there AND is attacked by an enemy faction unrelated to the auction events, AND beats them up"

But the real good story follow the "Because" route.. when it comes to Nari .. "She was hired by the Beifong BECAUSE she was inteligent and knowledgeable, she is like that BECAUSE she studies a lot, she studied a lot BECAUSE she has this innate curiosity in her towards learning new things."

So yeah, the travelling arc probably got extended a bit due to the heavy interactions between characters, honestly every time i write a character dialog i feel like i incorporate them... and it just flows naturally, weird innit?

ALso, for some reason my wife said this was one of her top favorite chapters ever, i don't really know why and she doesnt know how to explain so we are in this awkward situation lmao XD

I hope you like this chapter as much as she did though, i write my chapters with all my heart and i want yall to enjoy ^_^

Thank you for your dedication and patience with me you wonderful sausages, have a great day and stay awesome!

Cheers!
