It wasn't that Danzel couldn't block or dodge the attack on his skull. But decided to let the attack though him as the spike that the man had reminded him of the black ice that the Archmage had used. They were many reasons he choise to do that. In fact, Danzel would had escaped the village if he found that the spike was made by the same black ice that the Archmage used and would had resorted in a more safeway to fight.
