I know this is 3 months later and you probably don't even remember this book, but you're mistaken. His world isn't a mashup at all (Xmen is part of marvel, and so is miles, what you are comparing it to is the MCU, the MCU isn't everything you know, technically this could be its very own universe), and yes it's badly written though the author says that in the description.
