10 years ago they were lovers.
10 years later they are strangers.

Catherine was staring at Grace's face for the longest time. They were lying in the bed inside her cousin's room. She just comes from her work in the restaurant.

"Grace, I am really curious, what is your job? I haven't seen you wear any uniform to go to work or something...," she asked curiously.

Grace looked at Catherine's face amused. "You want to know what is my line of work? What kind of company am working with? The answer is something that you might not want or like to know."

Catherine is not satisfied with her cousin's reply.

"Then tell me what is your line of work? I'm ready to listen. Can I apply in the company you're working at?" she said interested.

"No. I'm a free agent. I'm a freelancer. I have a Boss though. Yet, I don't have to go to the office every day. But my Boss doesn't watch my back all the time. I don't have to wake up early in the morning to go to work. But the kind of job I have is not suitable for everyone. So, stop asking questions," said Grace.

Catherine was getting excited. "I love to have that kind of job same as yours! Please let me apply to your boss," she begged.

Grace laughed at her cousin's eagerness. "You have no idea what you're asking for, Catherine!"

"Please. Come on! Count me in. I will do anything just to have the same job as yours."

Grace shook her head firmly, disregarding her cousin's request.

"Have you finished writing on your resume? Give it to me tomorrow morning. I will meet my friend who works at the Marigold Hotel. She was in charge of the HR department of that hotel, she hires and fires workers in that hotel. So you better watch your steps in there. I don't want to know that you are fired the next day after getting hired, you understand? The salary there is much higher compared to your current salary in the restaurant, and guest gives good tips if you're lucky. So behave in there, okay?"

Catherine nodded. "Okay." She looked at her resume and fill up everything. Later she will have it computerized in one of the internet cafes in the neighborhood.

Grace checked the resume. "Write my name in the reference."

Catherine obeyed and write down Grace's name as a reference. "Do you think they will accept me? Am only a high school graduate," she asked worriedly.

"No worries. You will start at the bottom first. Then if your performance is good, you can advance into higher positions later. You got a pleasing personality and a hard worker that is a plus point already."

Catherine smiled with determination in her eyes. "I'm willing to start at the bottom. And I will work hard to reach the top."

"That's a positive attitude dear cousin, keep it up!" said Grace.

Catherine pouted. "You still haven't told me the nature of your work! Please...!" she persisted. 

Grace sighed. "Why you're so stubborn?"

She smiled. "Come on. Spill the beans!"

Grace took a deep breath. "I hired beautiful women to sell their bodies for pleasure to our male clients," she said it too quick like it's the most ordinary thing in the world.

It's just one simple sentence uttered by Grace, yet Catherine didn't get it right away.

"Huh? What did you just said to me---?" she asked bewildered.

Grace laughed at her cousin's confused look. "That's right. I recruit pretty women who like to earn quick money. Our male client came from a rich and influential background. We have politicians, doctors, lawyers, businessman, and many others. But we keep their identities a secret. We also keep our ladies identity a secret. We keep a tab on clients that were abusive. If they are a sadist and would hurt our girls we drop them no matter how rich they are. Our male clients got fat wallets, gentle lovers in bed and decent guys, they treat our ladies well. Some are just bored husbands who want more challenge in their bed with other women without breaking their marriage vows. Men used our ladies services for so many varied reasons. Some just want a company to talk to, to cuddle with, to enjoy sex with. Everything goes once the bedroom is closed. We recommend to our male clients to wear a mask while interacting with our ladies in bed. This is to protect them from block mail just in case one of our ladies will play a dirty trick on them."

Catherine's mouth was wide open. "Is that p-prostitution?"

Grace nodded. "Yeah more like it. But our ladies earn much more compare to ordinary prostitutes. I have seven recruits under my name. I got a 10% cut from their earnings. Every time my recruits services were being requested by our male clients, I also earned money each session," she explained further.

Catherine massaged her temple and shook her head.

"What----? You look down on my job? You think it's dirty and immoral?" Grace ask her cousin.

Catherine stared at her. "No of course not! As long as you don't, hurt, rob, steal or kill anyone, then I guess your job is fine. Actually, it's hard to find jobs nowadays and earning a good living is almost a survival for the fittest. Believe me, I don't look down and blamed you for choosing that job, cousin."

Then Grace smiled. "You still want my job---?"

Catherine shook her head. "No thanks. I'm not good at recruiting girls."

"You know what kind of ladies are my recruits? Who are they?"

"Who are they?"

"They varied, some ladies want to earn quick money to pay their tuition, to pay their debts or bills. To earn some emergency money and pretty much other reason. You know that out of my seven recruits, four of them are poor college students, one is a poor man's wife, one is a single mom and the last is a woman who is a breadwinner of five siblings, whose parents got killed in a bomb blasted by terrorist two years ago. Women of these kinds were just born unlucky.  So yeah...that is their stories."

Catherine sighed. "It's really unlucky to be born in this world as a woman. In my next life if am reincarnated I will choose to be a man," she laughed.

She gave her resume to Grace. "Cousin, please check my resume if it's already, okay?"

Grace examined the resume from top to bottom. "Yeah, it's all okay," she said and gave her back the piece of paper.

"Thanks. I will go to an internet cafe to have it computerize first. See yeah later, cousin!" Catherine bid farewell to her cousin and went out of the room.

She went inside to the nearest internet cafe and ask the computer attendant to have her resume type. She will just pay for the printing and the typing services. She has to wait a little bit longer because she was number five on the waiting list, as there are already others ahead of her. She sat down on the bench and watched the gamers and other users inside the internet cafe. She's been wanting to learn how to use a computer. She doesn't just have the time. Tomorrow after her job in the restaurant she will spend at least one hour here in the internet cafe learning how to use a computer. If computers and her iPhone were of the same function then she won't have a hard time learning how to use a computer as well. It will surely add to her knowledge and skill.

All of a sudden, her iPhone beep. She checked who sent her a message. It's John!

"Have you eaten your dinner?"

She texted a very short reply. "Yup."

"What are you doing?"

She typed..."Am in an internet cafe, have my resume computerize."

"Huh? Why? Why would you prepare a resume?"

"Am applying for a new job..." she said.

"Why? Why you didn't tell me? You will resign from your current job in the restaurant?"

Catherine's rolled her eyes. Why John has so many questions? She doesn't like it when he interrogates her like this as if he was her boyfriend or something.

"None of your business, John!"

She heard swearing on the other line. He must be starting to get piss right now.

"Dammit Catherine, answer me!"

"Yup," she finally said. Glad that she was able to torture him a bit.

"Where are you going to apply for work?"

She typed and then laughed. "To Dubai..."

"???"

She didn't answer.

"Seriously Catherine???"

She continues laughing.

"Damnit, answer me, Catherine! Do you plan to hide away from me again?"

Catherine rolled her eyes, she typed... "Yes and Nope."

"Tell me where are you applying for work?"

She stays silent for a while, debating if she will tell him where she is planning to apply for a new job.

Catherine decided to provoke him a little. "Secret..."

"Come on, Catherine! Don't play games with me!"

"Am not gonna tell you over my dead beautiful body," she replied, smirking at her iPhone.

She smiled amused by his flare-up reaction, she heard him swear profanities again, he must be really pissed right now. 

Then her jazz instrumental ringtone burst in the air, signaling her of an incoming call. She got a call from John! She sighed.

"Catherine..."

"Jeez...John, you don't have to call me!"

"I don't have to call if you only answer my question properly," he said, holding his temper down. "So please tell me, are you going to migrate to another city again to get away from me?"

"No..." she answered honestly at least.

"So, tell me, where are you going to apply?" his voice was much cooler this time.

"I'm applying for a job in one of the hotels nearby," she finally said.

"W-what specific hotel Catherine?" asked John, his interest got piqued.

"Hmmm...Marigold Hotel," she replied.

John's line went silent. 

Catherine eyed her iPhone. Did he hang up on her? But he's still connected with her.

"What specific job you want in that hotel?" he had finally spoken again after a short pause.

"Elevator operator," she laughed, giggling.

John chuckled as well. "Now, let's be serious...what specific job you want to apply for?"

"Hmmm, nothing specific. I am a hard worker though, I can do anything. I'm not choosy when it comes to working," she said.

He paused for a minute. "Okay, as you say so...but..." 

"John bye for now! My resume is done," she perused the resume that was being handed to her by the attendant and checked if everything was typed accordingly and it's error-free, satisfied, she smiled.

"Wait...!"

Huh? John was still with her? 

"Bye!" Catherine pressed end call hastily. She paid the computer attendant some money and inserted her computerized resume inside her envelope. She makes an exit of the internet cafe and headed back to her cousin's place.

She gave her resume to Grace and go home.

ON THE OTHER SIDE, in John's bedroom, he was debating to call Catherine again or not. He decided to just call her tomorrow, she might get irritated with his constant calling. 

He grinned...

So, she was going to apply in his hotel, lol.

This is getting interesting.

He called Reba, his human resource head in Marigold hotel.

"Sir, good evening!"

"Reba, a certain Catherine Ramirez will apply in the hotel in the next few days. I want you to accept her application right away, give her the job, any job that is available right now."

"Yes Sir!" replied Reba.

"Wait...what is the job that is available in there right now?" John asked.

"We are currently lacking at least three housekeeping staff, Sir. We need to hire new housekeeping staff because we have lots of guests coming and going inside the hotel 24/7, Sir."

"Okay. Put her in an 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM shift," he said.

"Yes, Sir."

"...And one more thing. No bullying on the new arrival. If anyone will bully my woman I will skin them alive! Got it?" he said in a cold hard voice.

"Copy Sir! Loud and clear!"

"Reba, this is important. Do not ever tell this woman about me that I'm the owner of the hotel. Do not in any way mention my name to her. Everything we talk right now keep it to yourself."

"Yes, Sir!"

John paused for a moment.

"Anything else, Sir?" asked Reba who was waiting for further instruction.

"That's all for now. I will call you again if I have further orders."

"Okay...bye Sir!"

John smiled in glee. His dear Catherine is getting into his spider web. This might be handy for his plan later. 

He strolled towards the room where the swimming pool is located. He stripped all his clothes and dived naked into the swimming pool. He closed his eyes and remembers Catherine swimming in the pool next to him. 

He missed her so much already.

AUTHORS NOTE:

P.S. Catherine was confused with her feelings for John. Unlike John, he know what he wants, he is mature already and he know exactly what is his feelings towards Catherine. On the other hand, Catherine was really confused with everything. What happened to her can really be viewed as r-ape to other people's point of view, she is young and have not much experience with relationship with opposite sex. When you're young and confused and just emerged from a dark experince you will be in a jumbled mess. She was trying to run away from John, at least we know she is trying to right some wrong or take in-charge with her life. John make things complicated for Catherine though, because of his obsession towards her.

In short, am not trying to blamed John for chasing Catherine, when you're in love, we make stupid things and decisions, right?

As for Catherine, I don't blame her either. She was confused as hell.

These couple will surely give me a mind f*ck for a long time.

they asked "you don't have best institute education and you'r background are not intrasted also then why you thinking that you will be god for this job?"
After hearing this she was anger but control herself and said "i don't think that's are that important because i have experienc of working one year in another company. And i not study in famus institute but i am best student in my institue if see my resume than you know that i had always 1st rank in my class. I come here for work because i think i have that ablity. After that Sara stand and live the room with anger.
On the other side a middle age man who sitting in her office has a smile on her face. After that he call them and said "hire her, she is perfect."

The president looked at the manager and said, "Manager Kim, can we have some tea?"
The manager laid out all the papers that Gun-Ho brought in today in front of the president before standing up.
"I will bring some tea."
After the manager left for preparing tea, only Gun-Ho and the president were left in the office.
"Where is your home?"
"I am currently staying in Dujeong Town, Cheonan City. I am planning to move to Dunpo Town soon."
"What about your parents?"
"They are in Incheon."
"Hmm…"
The manager brought three cups of green tea. The president spoke after having one sip of green tea. He didn't even bother looking through the Gun-Ho's application papers.
"You have probably noticed already that our company is not big enough to require two persons in an accounting team. We decided to hire one more person to assist Manager Kim because she is expecting a baby soon. The pay is not high, but it will gradually increase as you work hard."
"I understand."
Gun-Ho responded by bending himself to show his respect.
"Oh, Manager Kim! How much do we pay to the new employee in the quality assurance team downstairs?"
"It is 1,800,000 won."
"Our starting salary is 1,800,000 won. I had looked through your application when we had the interview, and I believe you didn't have a lot of work experience, Mr. Goo…"
The president couldn't remember Gun-Ho's name; he picked up Gun-Ho's resume from his desk. He found Gun-Ho's name on top of the resume and said, "We didn't actually select you, Mr. Gun-Ho Goo. The person we initially hired had ten years of work experience in a fodder company, but she decided to stay with her current employer. That's how we hired you. Since you are male and have work experience in a factory, we thought you could work in other teams later on such as the general affair, logistics, or sales if necessary."
"I see. I appreciate it."
"Our company has a very friendly work environment. Many of our workers are long-term employees. Manager Kim also has been working with us for fifteen years probably; isn't it?"
The president looked at Manager Kim's face.
"Yes, that's right."
"Manager Kim will explain you about your work here. If you work hard, you can be promoted to manager and general manager. You do look like a hard working person."
The president smiled at Gun-Ho. Gun-Ho felt so grateful and he bowed deeply to the president.
 
Manager Kim introduced the employees on the second floor to Gun-Ho.
"This is Seon-Hong Hwang, our general affairs manager."
The general affairs manager looked three to four years older than Gun-Ho.
"I am Gun-Ho Goo; I will be working in the accounting team. I look forward to working with you."
"I am the one who's look forward to working with you. You will be working in the accounting team that handles money."
The general affairs manager seemed to be a sarcastic person. Gun-Ho was introduced to the logistics team leader and the sales manager as well. The logistics team leader and sales manager were both in their 50s. They were so busy at the time that they didn't pay attention to Gun-Ho.
"The logistics team has two more workers, and there is a sales assistant manager as well; they seem to be working away from the office at the moment, so you can meet them later."
When Manager Kim came back to her desk with Gun-Ho, the general affairs manager came to her.
"You need to give me his papers."
Manager Kim handed the papers to him. The general affairs manager said to Gun-Ho,
"I will have to give you the employment contract, so stop by my desk later."
"Okay, I will do that."
 
Manager Kim showed Gun-Ho's desk which was next to hers.
"No one is using that desk. You can work there. The computer is not new, but it still works well. I will make a link to the accounting program that I am using so you can use it too."
"What accounting program does this company use? Is it Douzone?"
"Yes, we are using Douzone."
Douzone is an accounting software that was developed by Douzone company. Gun-Ho would finally start working with an accounting software.
"As the president told you, I will be on maternity leave after three months from now. As such, you should familiarize yourself with the work during the next three months."
"I will do my best. I'd love to learn from you and to have you as my mentor and big sister."
"I saw your resume earlier. I am actually ten years older than you. Haha."
If so, she was already 42 years old. Being pregnant at this age made it evident that she had married late.
"Is that so? You have extensive work experiences and you are an expert in this field. Me... I have a lot to learn. In my previous company, they didn't even use any accounting software."
"You know how to do journalizing, right? While you are journalizing, you just need to record them. I will do the tax return when I come back, you just need to record deposits and withdrawals, and fill in the expense report accordingly."

The general affairs manager didn't seem comfortable with what Manager Kim said. He went back to his desk while murmuring.
Manager Kim warned Gun-Ho quietly in a low tone, "The general affairs manager has a ferocious temper. You want to be careful with him. He graduated at Dankook University here in Cheonan. He joined our company through some high-ranking official."
"Oh, really?"
Manager Kim talked more about a few tasks Gun-Ho had to perform. Gun-Ho diligently wrote it down, but he didn't fully understand what she said.
 
Gun-Ho went to the general affairs manager.
"This is the employment contract. Let's start by signing on this paper."
Gun-Ho had seen the employment contract before when he worked in a production line in a factory. Gun-Ho signed on the contract without any problem. The general affairs manager continued talking while looking through Gun-Ho's resume.
"You graduated from a cyber college. Is that college accredited?"
"Yes. As far as I know, it is an accredited college."
"You went to a college in the countryside as well. You need to bring the enrollment certificate for that college. Also, please bring the level-2 computerized accounting certificate. We need to include all of those papers in your file."
"I, I will do that."
"Since you will be working in one of the influential teams, accounting team, I hope you will be easy with our general affairs team."
The general manager extended his hand for a handshake while implying something. Gun-Ho laughed while shaking hands.
"I believe all teams have equal power; there is no such thing as a more influential team."
"That's not true. Our team handles the Four Major Public Insurance, but the withholding tax is handled by the accounting team."
"Is it? Haha. I am not so sure yet."
"Let's go to the work site and meet with people. If you don't meet with them now, they will talk behind your back when they see you in the cafeteria."
Gun-Ho followed the general affairs manager to the work site. He stopped by the quality assurance team, production team, and maintenance team, and introduced Gun-Ho to the team leaders. They all welcomed Gun-Ho with broad smiles, maybe because it was their first time meeting him. The team leader of the production team talked to the general affairs manager.
"Sir, the paystub for the last month doesn't seem to be right. The withholding tax was higher than the previous month as well."
"Oh, that? We have this skillful worker in the accounting team now. He will take care of it from now on."
Gun-Ho understood that the general affairs manager was a twisted talker.

After sleeping for a whole day, John felt he as revived somewhat after a long while of dozing off, John got off his bed and brewed some coffee with some toast to make himself awake, after drinking his coffee and eating his toast, he smelled the odor of his and suddenly think of the idea of bathing, he entered his bathroom and bath for a long while.


-Two Hours Later-


After cleaning his body thoroughly, he left the bathroom and checked the current condition of Captain America when he saw that Cap was already on the custody of Shield, he wasn't worried anymore. John checked Norman if he called him or message him about anything important but when he saw there was nothing, he wasn't worried anymore so he got back organizing everything inside his brain, he remembered he took the power of Thor but sadly he can't fully control it, the power of a God truly is overwhelming so he got back to cultivating some more when he noticed his cultivation not rising, he thought about the Hulk so he immediately tracked the hulk location, he secretly implanted a tracking device in every Avenger he had met so far, after some pinpointing later he tracked the exact location of the Hulk he was at some wilderness around Bella Coola, British Columbia, John saw that Banner was practicing his transformation to Hulk in a more controlled manner so after a long while of watching, John had gotten enough of it and he wore his armor which after some seconds he flew off to the location of the hulk. After some long while of traveling he arrived at the exact location of Banner which is doing not quite well he was not that skinny but he was not fat either, in a matter of fact he slimmed down and had grown a short beard.


"Hello, Bruce Banner how are you doing? I'm here to visit you to offer something you wouldn't refuse no matter what. I want to invite you, to become my assistant at the company I'm working in and also to make you more comfortable unlike in this forest." John spoke up the proposition that was the most plausible approach to the Hulk. After a long while of waiting, Bruce had come to a decision.


"Hmm, I will accept it because I have no choice haha, Sir thank you for your kindness..." Bruce was thankful that someone was still there to accept him even though he was a monster and he wasn't worried either that he will destroy everything because of the fact that this guy who he is facing now could defeat The Abomination and make the Hulk tremble in fear slightly. 


After some seconds John carried Bruce to his office and while they were in the air John said his name to Bruce for happy cooperation. He arrived at his office and retracted his armor for Bruce to see who's hiding inside the armor and sat on his seat while inviting Bruce to sit on a chair. Bruce couldn't hide his shock because of the fact that the one who made the Hulk tremble was such a young person which is also an incredible genius, he heard 3 years ago that a young genius was recruited by Oscorp so he put things together and confirmed the identity of the young person in front of him. 


"Bruce Bruce a genius who's been infected by gamma radiation and became Hulk who was hunted by the government, such an awesome resume you have Mr. Bruce," John said to Bruce who was letting out a laugh, he was laughing without worries about the world. 


"Haha! I couldn't compare to you Sir while I'm a genius you are an exceptional genius in your own merit and also blame the government for my awesome resume" Bruce couldn't hold back his laughter because of the joy that he was still being treated like a human by the young man in front of him unlike others who just shun him with the reason that he was a monster. 


"Yes Mr. Bruce, you truly have an awesome resume so I would want to welcome you to Oscorp Industries, You will be working under me from now on so deal? " A grin was formed on John's face, he couldn't help himself because he was so happy. John reached out his hand for Banner to accept and he accepted it with happiness.


"It's my pleasure working with you, Mr. John of the Oscorp industries!"  Bruce reached out John's hand to accept the deal. Bruce was exhilarated and overjoyed that he got accepted. Also, he couldn't help it but get worried for John.


"Haha! welcome to your new job Bruce and I know what you are thinking, you're worried about me, aren't you? don't worry I'll be okay, I have the ability to recruit you" John reassured Bruce as he looks outside of his window and looks at the view outside, he thought 'This day truly is lucky for me'.

Our protagonist was just sleeping soundlessly on the daily afternoon but suddenly someone 'slipped' their hand and killed our protagonist.

The receptionist, Meghan Quinn, was very sweet. She must have been in her 40's. Dark red hair and brown eyes, she looked just like my middle school teacher. In her sweet southern voice, she had let me know that the manager, Dwayne Goer, was on a business call and would receive me as soon as he wrapped up his meeting. 

I sat down and unintentionally started to twiddle my thumbs. A bad nervous habit of mine.

"Sugar, if you keep playing thumb wars with yourself you'll get nerve rushed!" Meghan said. 

"I'm sorry... I am a bit nervous. First big job interview, ya know?" I stop twiddling and resorted to taking deep breaths. 

"Need a coke? A rootbeer? We have cookies in the vending machine." She offered. 

Not wanting to ruin my diet, I politely declined. "My family and friends want to take me out for lunch later. Don't want to spoil my appetite!" I say.

"Ya know shug, if you want to know a tip to ace your interview, take my advice. Be your best self.  Mr. Goer wants fresh talent and he don't take too kindly to rule followers. He wants people who see the world in a new way. To wake up the world. Fresh perspectives and new ideas. We even have our own radio news station! So we are always looking for talent!"

"Alright! I mean, I have waited two years for this moment and eight just to be old enough to work." I smile. 


"Wait, how did you hear about us? Two years?" 

"I received a gift and it was wrapped up in a newspaper. On the top article was your advertisement. I wrote down my goals in a journal of what I would want to be if I received a job here. I have always wanted to bring Kala to work." I grin. 

"Your dog?" She cocked her head to the side. 


"My dog? Oh no! Kala is my typewriter! I've had her for all of my best works! Very good when computers and printers are down!"

"I see! Well, I will check if Mr. Goer is ready for you to head in!" She tapped an extension on her phone and gave me a thumbs up. 

"Yes Sir, I will send her over!" She hung up. "You are good to go! Good luck Miss Preston! I do hope you will be a part of our team!"

"Thank you Mrs. Quinn!"

"Please, call me Meg!"

"Thank you again, Meg!"

The door opened and I saw Mr. Goer, tall with twinkling blue eyes, blond hair, he waved me in. He reminded me of Robbin Williams and Robert Herjavec from Shark Tank. He wore a blinding yellow business shirt and a navy blue jacket. Grey boots made the look unique. 

I stood up and walked in, head held high. 

I shook his hand firmly and waited for him to speak.

"Have a seat Miss Preston."

He closed his door and sat behind a polished onyx black desk.

"How are you today?" he asks. 

"Fabtastic!" I say using a word I had never used before. I couldn't decide if I should say fabulous or fantastic, so I blended the two.

"Interesting choice of word. I like it! If you don't mind my intrusion, I had ended my call before you arrived. I don't like to be on calls when a new potential employee is coming. As you came in, we hid an audio video camera in the lobby to just see if whoever we hire is worthy of our time. We don't choose random people and we certainly are a very unique company. You see, we want to hire you, but the question is do you want to hire us?" he grabs a book from his desk drawer.

I was taken aback by the news of being watched, but kept my composure. "Yes! I mean, I would love you to hire me and in return I use my talents and passions for good! We need to wake up the world!" I felt like I was giving a pep talk. 

"That's the spirit! May I see your resume?" 

"Of course. But I must warn you, it's a bit different for a resume." I reached into my briefcase and pulled out a newspaper.

"I have never had a resume presented to me in the form of a newspaper before..." he begins to read it, occasionally looking up to glance at me and the clock. 

When he finished he handed the paper back to me and looked me in the eyes. He says, "This smells new. Did you type this yourself?"

"Yes sir. I have short articles I've written in the past on that one paper." 


"Well, I am quite impressed! You seem to have a good head on your shoulders. Now, if you dont mind, I do have to ask a few formal questions for the records. Are you currently in a relationship, have a family or have medical complications that may interfere with your work life?"

"No, not my own family, just parents, and no." I say with confidence. 


"Any problem with working the night shift?" he asks. 


I remembered my father's words of working 9-5. "Yes actually, the streets by my apartment is always crowded in the late evening, so going to a night shift is impossible unless you take a helicopter." I joke. 

"We can take care of that..." he mumbles. 

"Pardon?" 

"It's time for lucky question number three... How soon would you be ready to work?"

I wanted to shout out that I could start right now, but I voted against that idea. 

"How about we do tomorrow so can I take a day to get a feel for the place? I can start working on Monday!"

He looked up. 

Then I realized my mistake. I was talking as if I had already landed the job. 

"I am so sorry, Mr. Goer! I shouldn't have said that!" I apologized profusely.

"Don't be. I already hired you on." he folded his hand's and smiled. 

"I beg your pardon?" 

"You see, we are short staffed. Thirteen out of our twenty top writers had to quit. Too old, retired, left for a different company or decided to take in a new career with better pay. I have just witnessed a dedicated writer step into my office with a winning personality. Ready to work and excited to be here! I need more people like you!"


I was shocked. I had the job? No. Freaking. Way. 

"Yes!" a voice shouted from behind the door. 

Mr. Goer puts a finger to his lip for silence and opens the door. 

Meghan has a cup with her ear pressed against it to listen in. 

"Meghan... Care to explain?" Mr. Goer says firmly. 

"I was hoping for her to get the position... I couldn't help it!" 

He starts to chuckle. "Just don't fall through the door next time!"


I give my thanks and bid my farewells. 

As I was walking out of the building a young gentleman opened the door for me. He was very kind, handsome and said have a great day.


My family would be happy to hear about my day!

Driving home I cranked on the radio and singing the whole way to the restaurant.
 

My parents would be so pleased to hear of my greatest achievement yet!

I look back and my eyes widen to see who it is.

Her once neat blonde hair is now messy. She was panting, trying catching her breath. Grabbing her hand in mine, I lead her to a bench near us. Her hand on her chest, as her other hand is holding on to the bench, steadying herself. She looks young, maybe in her early 20's. Her almond shaped hazel eyes fixed on mine as if she is angry with me.
Regina, that's the name written on the name tag pinned to her blouse. Her brown eyes looking at me. "Who doesn't own a mobile phone in this time of technology?" She asked me. "My grandma owns an iPhone." She grumbled.
Shrugging my shoulder, I answered her "I don't." I do have other priorities than a phone right now. Number one on the list is Leonardo, and I don't find any reason for having one.
She slapped her forehead. "That's the reason I have to run after you, crossing all the roads." Her eyes glowered into mine with a hint of anger.
Squinting my eyes at her, I asked her. "Why would you do that?"
"There is a job, but by the time I got the message you have already left the building. I was looking in your resume, trying to find a way to contact you. Mujer estupida (stupid woman). No telephone number, just house address." She stated.
Did she call me stupid? Anger building up in my body. There is no reason for her to call me stupid. Yes, I don't have a phone, but that's not the reason for her to call me stupid. Hold on, there is a job, for me? This must be some kind of a joke. First, he told me there is no job available for me. Then suddenly his secretary runs after me to deliver the news that there is a job for me. I can forgive her for calling me stupid if this is true.
"A job, for me?" I look at her under my lashes. I need confirmation, that's all.
"Eres sordo (are you deaf)? No escuchaste (didn't you listen)? There is a job for you. Are you deaf?" Her eyes narrowed at me.
"Then, what are we waiting for?" With renewed energy, I carried Leonardo in my arm and walks toward the office building, which I left a few minutes ago.
Regina then accompanied me upstairs, to level 27. The smile didn't leave my face as I walk out from the elevator and stands in front of a room with a name carved on it. Marcel Santiago, CEO. Regina called out Leonardo, asking him to sit with her.
"Regina, puedes cuidar de mi Hijo? (can you take care of my son?)" I asked her. Her eyes widened.
"I did learn a little bit of Spanish." I told her.
Leonard looks up to me as if he needs confirmation. Squatting down, I told him to stay with Regina as I need to talk to the boss inside the room with a promise that it won't take a long time. Straightening my skirt and myself, I knocked on the door.
"Come in." The voice said from the inside.
Looking back at Leonardo with a smile on my face, I opened the door. This is my second chance, I told myself.
There, sitting on the chair is the man that was about to change my life. His eyes studied my resume again. The glasses on him makes him looks more mature. Silence surround the room, only the sound of him flipping the resume can be heard. I was still standing as he never told me to sit down.
"So, you love to play the piano?" He asked, his eyes never leave the piece of paper in front of him.
"Yes, sir." I answered him.
What does my love of playing the piano have to do with my job? Sky Enterprise owns several high-end restaurants with two of it awarded two Michelin stars. Taking away his reading glasses, he puts them down on the table.
"Oh! Sit down please." He motioned to the chair in front of me.
"Did you attend classes for the piano?" He threw another question at me.
Nodding, I told him about the classes that I attended. The confusion inside my heart elevated with every question that he asked.
"Sir, mind if I ask you. Why is it with the question about piano?"
His eyes widened at my question. "Written here, you love to play the piano." He paused shortly.
Biting his lower lip, he continued. "It might do no justice to your degree. But.. will you take the position as a pianist at one of my restaurant?" His eyes fixed on mine.
A pianist, with a degree in accountancy? In the past, I might have declined the offer. If this is the only job that can provide enough food for Leonardo, I will accept it.
"You will be waitressing during day time and be a pianist at night if you agree. I will ask Regina to prepare the employment letter and you can start tonight." He stated, staring right into my soul. "If you agree, if not, the door is just right behind you." He finished his words.
"Arrogant." I mumbled under my breath. Working with this man may be like hell but I will endure the hell if that's what written on my fate.
Putting my best hand forward, I shake his hand. "I agree, sir."
Turning my heel, I walks towards the door.
"It's Mr. Marcel for you after this."
Closing the door behind me, I marched towards the table where Regina sits with Leonardo. She showed me a paper, the employment contract. My eyes fall on the salary detail. It's good as a starting point. Signing the employment contract, I feel proud of myself. Finally, I can provide something better for Leonardo. I can put him in a kindergarten, may not be the best but he can at least learn better.
You can never provide for yourself.
You are only one weak woman, what can you do?
Woman.
The voices that once haunted me, putting my confidence on the floor came back.
Guess what? This woman is standing up, working and maybe providing for a good life. Not just for myself, but for my son, Leonardo too.
Today is my first day of work and I forget to ask one thing, the most important thing.
"Regina, can I bring Leonardo to work?"
"Oh, Mr Marcel. already told me that. In case you ask, yes you can. There will be a room that Leonardo can stay, but not for forever. Just until you find a place for him."

Inside the office.
Tapping his fingers on the desk, he kept glancing at his watch with a huge frown on his face. "Who is next?"
Looking at the list of interviewees, Noah said, "Ellie Miller."
"Why isn't she in yet?" the man asked. 
Noah sighed and helplessly shook his head. "Oh come on Seb, she is just running a minute late. I am sure she will be in any minute and if you are late for your meeting, leave this hiring your assistant thing to me. I'll hire the best one for you." 
Glaring at his cousin, Sebastian Stewart narrowed his eyes. "Best? Wasn't the last one that you hired for me also the best? And what happened? Well, I don't think so I have to remind you about that." 
Noah frowned and snapped, "Dude, she was hot." 
"Why did you hire her anyway? She had worked in a strip club before, wasn't that reason enough for you to chuck her out?" Sebastian asked.
" I told you she was hot and-"
Cutting Noah off, Sebastian added, "She was more horny than hot."
Noah vigorously nodded his head and added, "I know and you were supposed to sleep with her. I was actually helping you get laid man, thank me."
Sebastian was about to say something when someone opened the door.

"Why are you always so clumsy? Arrgghh what do I do with you?" Mellisa murmured before helping her up.
Noah picked up all the papers from the ground and placed them inside the file. "Are you fine?" 
Ellie reluctantly nodded her head while Mellisa elbowed her boyfriend. 
"Huh babe, what happened?" Noah asked.

When Noah slowly nodded his head, Mellisa checked on Ellie for the last time and left after wishing her luck.

Then I realised that I cannot do this so I woke up but ended up falling on my butt so yeah, my butt was already sore and now my nose feels sore too and then-" Ellie stopped midway Noah gave her a dead signal and placed his fingers in his lips indicating her not to talk so much. 
Awkwardly scratching her forehead, Ellie cleared her throat. "Ehh I am sorry for running late, it won't happen again."
Keeping quiet for quite some time, Sebastian asked, "Is someone going to deliver your resume on my table?"
Sticking her tongue out, Ellie gave him an awkward smile and quickly fished out her resume from her file. 
While Sebastian was busy going through her resume, Ellie couldn't take her eyes off the handsome man sitting right in front of her.
The articles that she had read about Sebastian Stewart being a handsome hunk totally did justice to his beautiful face. 
From his beautiful light brown eyes to his perfect jawlines and nose, he looked handsome in every possible profile. 
"I see you have an experience of working as an assistant for a software company in Seattle and that is also the last company you have worked in. Why did you decide to leave?" Sebastian asked.
"I always wanted to try something big and different so I decided to shift to L.A and try being independent." Ellie answered.
"So you think moving to L.A and working here is big?" Sebastian asked.
"I am sorry, don't you think this company is big? And-" Ellie widened her eyes in shock and vigorously shook her head, "No no I mean, I know this company is big." 
Slapping his forehead, Noah helplessly shook his head. 
Staring at Ellie for quite some time, Sebastian said, "Alright, you can leave."
"What? That's it?" Ellie asked. 
Sebastian raised his eyebrows and asked, "You want me to ask you more questions?" 
Ellie vigorously shook her head and quickly rushed out of the office.
"Isn't she good? I mean look at her, she is beautiful, smart, looks intelligent and-"
Cutting Noah off, Sebastian said, "Chuck her out and hire the man whom we had interviewed before her."
Noah widened his eyes in shock and asked, "You are kidding me right?" 
"Unpunctual, clumsy, carefree and a big mouth. Almost everything that I don't like." After pointing out Ellie's flaws, Sebastian got up and left for his scheduled meeting.
After Sebastian left, Noah frowned and kept on staring at the interviewees list. 
After a few seconds, his lips curled upwards when something struck him. Fishing his phone out, Noah patted his own shoulder and proudly exclaimed, "God Noah Stewart, you are a fucking genius."
