Her name is Lua and she's the only "potato" among her rich and good-looking friends. Needless to say, Nato--- the de facto leader of their group and the richest guy in the university--- can't be in love with her... right? He's a tsundere so it's hard to tell!

A long time ago, in a time before time, the eight fabled words existed within the primordial realms.

Travel. Contract. Magic. Adorable kids. Desert. Detective. Designer. Prom.

Our universe today stems from these eight words, known as the Octennial Texts! 

This is a magical story about Veol Bwen, a young girl with a bizarre beginning as she journeys to become a Contracter.

(This is a very short (perhaps longer if I feel like it) story for Writing Contest 57; simply for fun and as an attempt to stretch my writing muscles . . .)

And yes, adorable kids is one word. 

. . .

"Players please take the word you have to enact," a teacher let them pick a folded paper one by one.

Sheen was hesitant at first to pick a paper.

But after seeing the anxious teacher, she just took the one that touched her fingers.

She slowly opens it.

"Storytelling," it said.

Sheen's eyes widen as her mind becomes blank.

'Storytelling? How am I supposed to do that?'

The game started and the grade 1 were the first to play. 

The other players are sitting with their hands are a bit raised to be sure that they are not using their phones.

Grade 1 was not able to answer any of the player's actions.

Then grade 2, they answered 1 out of the three players.

Then grade three who didn't answer anything as well.

And then it's grade 4's turn.

The first player was from class c.

They didn't get it.

Then Class B.

The class answered it in just two actions of the representative.

Suddenly, Sheen's hand feels like it's dripping wet.

Her hands tremble.

Her heartbeats are so fast that she might have a heart attack.

"Class A!" The emcee called. 

They took off Sheen's blindfold.

And the first thing she noticed was the stares of the judging mothers.

Some were still whispering.

But when she looked at Cj's teacher, her excitement suddenly made her feel at ease.

It's as if someone believes in you.

Cj then shouted, "YOU CAN DO IT!" which made Sheen feel happy.

She stands up, 'Storytelling,' she repeats to herself.

She has to let the kids see that she is telling a story.

She's good at this, she's a writer!

The first thing she did was to act how many words there are.

She pointed her index finger.

"One word!" 

The kids shouted.

'Imagine,' she whispered as she closes her eyes.

The first thing that came into her mind is a book.

So she enacted that she's holding a book.

'Tell.'

She slowly acts as if she's turning the pages.

She opens her eyes and looks at an imaginary kid who's listening to her stories with smiles and facial expression of whatever the story she's reading is about.

The hall went silent.

She thought they can't understand what she's doing so she stopped. 

But as soon as she was about to do another action, someone shouted.

It was Cj.

"Storytelling!" 

Then the other kids and parents in their class shouted the same.

"How'd you know?" The P.E teacher asks Cj.

"Well, I saw my nanny reading stories to me when she did that. And I know you saw it too," Cj smiles.

Everyone saw themselves in Sheen's action.

It's like they went back to their childhood and saw their loved ones telling them stories as they watch Sheen act.

"Was she an actress?" Some whispers.

"CLASS A-4 enters the second round! They have another level to finish before they can be the champion of this traditional game of our dear campus! And take note, if they did, this is the first time Class A will win." 

That surprised Sheen.

'Their class never won before?' She thought as the teacher smiles at her.

And when the next level started, Sheen used the same technique. 

She imagines and then she tells.

"Scolding!" Class A shouted.

"Seems like Class A- 4 enters the championship. This is against Class A-4 versus Class B- 4 versus Class 6-C. Remember, this is a two-part championship. The first winner will go against the other winner."

The representative raised the hands, "But the rules will be different, the enemy class should be the one to answer the enemy's action."

Everyone then started shouting.

The old turn of events is that the child of the player who wants to win will bribe the enemy, they will give money if they will let them win.

And seems like the richest amongst the representative, Class B-4, will bribe Class A and Class 6-C.

Sheen can hear the representative of Class B-4 laugh and when she saw the representative of Class 6-C, she just sighs and said, "Class B wins, darling," she looks at Sheen.

Before Sheen can even say anything, Class C-6 already lost. 

Even with Class C-6 vs. Class A-4. 

Sheen won, but it's not against Class B-4.

As they play, for some reasons, Sheen kept on winning while Class B- 4 also win.

They have been playing for three rounds.

"Okay, seems like Class A- 4 can keep up, you charmed Class B-4, Miss Sheen," the emcee said.

"Last round, everyone, aside from your class should answer."

Sheen looked at the representative of Class B.

She signals someone with a nod.

It's as if she's saying, 'Just buy the whole elementary's answer.'

This made Sheen feel competitive.

'Just once again, imagine and tell,' she thought while she opens the paper.

But there's nothing on it.

No words were written on her paper.

She saw the paper of Class B and it has a word in it.

"What the..." she whispers as she crumples the paper and puts it inside her bag.

The Class B enacts and everyone answers. 

"I can't believe this is how they play in front of the kids," she whispers.

It's her turn. 

If she fails they will not win.

She stands up in front.

There's nothing to imagine or tell.

At first, she signals her hand for one word.

They all said 'One word.'

Then she got stuck.

She just stands there.

'How am I supposed to do this?' 

She drew a line using her finger.

She heard whispers such as 'line' and 'blank'.

She points the direction where 'Blank' came from but the mother covers her child's mouth.

Cj can't think of anything.

"What's that?" He whispers.

He closed his eyes and think.

"Line? Draw?" He tried until he thought of the word 'blank.'

But the bell sounded meaning the time's up.

Sheen just sighs.

"Nice work, Mistress," the mother from Class B told Sheen as she was passing by.

"Excuse me?" Sheen stops and looks at the mother.

"Yes, Mistress?" She repeated the word.

"What do you mean mistress?" Everyone saw what is happening since the Class B representative is supposed to get the trophy.

"She's doing it again," Sheen heard the whispers while the people look at the Class B representative.

"You," she poked Sheen's shoulders, "Are having a relationship with the Star Company's President to gain your popularity again. And take note, it's a publishing company and you.. are a writer."

She looks down on Sheen.

Sheen got nervous at first, but as she hears the words, she concluded that the mother is stupid and she pities the child of the woman.

Sheen smirks.

"Oh, is your vocabulary limited to a pathetic description of words?"  Sheen steps forward and threw a glare at the woman.

She tries to keep her words faint for the kids not to hear.

"I thought you were calling me a mistress because I am in a higher position than you," Sheen really thought that first when she was called a mistress.

She uses that word in her books whenever she is pertaining to a woman who is in a high position or a head of a household.

"What?" The woman was about to slap her when Sheen runs toward the Teacher.

The emcee calling the audience attention to give the price to Class B.

"Ma'am, what was that? I know something went wrong in the game, I can't believe this is a school," Sheen saw Cj and told him to go with her.

"Sheen," Cj calls out. 

He was about to say what happened when the Class B representative followed them outside the hall and pulled Sheen's hair.

"Hey, social climber!" The woman called out.

"Hey!" Sheen tries to pull her hair but the woman won't let go.

Cj was too shocked to even do something.

"See this?" The woman showed her phone to Sheen.

'Author Sheen is a mistress of the Star Company's President, Mr. Clark White...' the article says.

"What?" Sheen tried to grab the phone but the woman pushes her.

"This is what happens to the women who try to fight back, you should've let me win when that paper was given to you, you should've backed out."

CJ suddenly saw his father in the hallway.

"Hey, woman!" Cj calls the class b representative.

"You're so pathetic," he smiles.

Mr. White saw what happened and he already read the article.

"What?" The woman was about to slap Cj when Sheen kicked her leg, making her scream in pain.

"Don't hit a kid!" Sheen stands up kicked the other leg of the woman.

"I'll let this pass because there are kids around," she had the threatening glare and tone.

"Remember, I'm a mistress, and pathetic people like you deserve to be--" someone covered her mouth and when she turned to see, it was Mr. White.

"Bad words are prohibited," He said as he lets go of Sheen.

Cj was just swaying his body with a wide smile.

'You're dead, Dadd's here,' Cj thought as he closes the door of the hall since people are starting to see what was happening.

Sheen, a famous book author of romance and a victim of unrequited love, finds herself in need of true romance for a new novel. She stumbles upon young men while thirsty to create the novel she needs to write, she jumps from one romance to another to create the perfect romantic book she can ever write.

"You want to try it out, darling?" Creselda asks. Maybe her niece was eager to see her gown that she and her mother designed. It is true that she really wants to try it already but it will take another time, besides there are things she still needs to do before calling it a day and besides, this place is near the countryside already so they will have a long ride before she can get home..
 
"No auntie. Although I really want to, there are things I need to do besides it is already dark outside and it will take time before I reach home. I don't want to worry mom and dad" she said.
 
"Well yes, that's true. Where's your driver? I haven't heard any car parked in front of the store," she asks then looks outside. Because she was focused on her niece, she didn't notice the three. One handsome tall man and two kids who have thin bodies.
 
"Who must be that handsome man? Your boyfriend?" Creselda looked at Francesca with little wide eyes. 
 
After hearing the word handsome she turned with a frown on her eyebrows to whom her aunt is talking about and she knows who it is. Francesca wants to retort because who is handsome? That beta? Eldric is more handsome than him.
 
That is what she said, but unable to utter a little word when her eyes landed on him. His black neat hair was nothing special but visible the softness of it. His body is not well built like those who are actively exercising but it is still fit like, fats didn't exist in his body but only muscles. His white skin compliments his dark blue jacket underneath is a white shirt. Also, the thin flushed lip and his pointed nose make her heart *thump* a little especially the bright smile he has now on his face while he is talking to the kids.
 
It is how do normal people look like… so why? Why is her heart racing so fast? 
 
Dillon noticed someone was staring at him so he looked at where he could feel the stare and there he found from whom it came from. When their eyes met, Francesca saw that dark like coffee eyes surrounded with dark eyelashes as if he was wearing eyeliner. She can feel her face was hot so she avoided her gaze from him.
 
"W-who is m-my b-boyfriend? I d-don't k-know h-him." she stuttered while looking down. She smiles at how her niece reacts. She approached the man and the kids before she bent down to look at the kids.
 
"Who are these kids? Why do they look so thin and dirty?" She said asking Dillon, though her eyes were on the kids.
 
"This kid attempts to snatch the young miss' bag," he said, then threw a look at the boy. "But instead to punish him, I ask to miss Francesca to bring them to the orphanage, and Miss Francesca agreed to it," Creselda raised an eyebrow, it is unlikely Francesca after all.
 
Creselda thinks a little while looking at the two kids, the same with them, looking at the woman with their big round eyes, especially the little girl.
 
"How about letting me take care of these kids so this old woman has now companions?" she looked at Dillon and Francesca who were in her back with hoping eyes. She is in her 30's yet she is still single and it is because the fated mate she believes was in the other hands now and this makes her not love anymore. 
 
After the shock, Dillon shows a relieved expression showing that he agrees to it. Francesca however, wants to know if her aunt is serious about this, but eventually, she also agrees to it. After that, Creselda and the kids walked the two adults out of the store, there, they had their goodbyes.
 
"Thank you for deciding to keep them, it is just that, I'm fond of kids," Dillon said looking at the side with a slight flush confessing why he shielded the kid from Francesca. 
 
"Don't worry I'll do all the papers needed for adoption. I will take care of them," she said at the young man while patting the two kid's heads and staring at them adoringly. This assures Dillon and nods at Creselda then he looks down at the kids.
 
"If big brother has spare time, I will visit you two," he said smiling warmly at the two then for the last time, he looks at Creselda and bow.
 
"Thank you, madame, we will take our leave now, also the McMillan household is still waiting for my arrival, besides I'm working under them," he said. Creselda and Francesca froze after hearing his words. Creselda turned back to normal after some time then smiled at Dillon.
 
"Is... Are your masters well?" Dillon only nodded, besides it is not his business and it is inappropriate to disclose the personal information of his masters to anyone, what more to a stranger? Creselda nods back a little to him then enters the store with the kid.
 
However, Francesca is still not recovering from what she heard and her mouth is slightly opened. Dillon who has two big boxes in his hand wants to laugh at her look.
 
"Young miss, a fly might enter your mouth," he said then started to walk towards his car since the car he used was parked in front of another store.
 
"Y-You!" she said repressing her anger from shame but followed the man.
 
"H-hey beta! Is it real that you work from McMillan? So Eldric is also your young master?" she asks
 
"Correct." he replied,
 
"Give my phone back, since the kids were under my aunty's care now, you don't have to blackmail me using my phone, I'll give you my number and you must contact me back," she said commanding the beta.
 
"That... no can do," he replied then opened the car trunk and put the boxes inside since they arrived at the car he used. Francesca frowns at his word.
 
"What do you mean?" she asks and enters the car too. But instead of answering her question, Dillon picks up a booklet and a pen writing something then gives it to her.
 
"Ain't you understand what I said? I'm the one who'll give my number." she said and the frowns didn't leave her face. Dillon fished out the phone in the pocket of his jacket then gave it back to her. For the nth time on this day, she froze again. 
 
"The truth is, while the kid was fishing something in your bag while running, the phone slipped out of the bag and rolled down hard, you may not hear the sound because it is the same time I dropped the box but it's loud though. That is the reason why I decided to hide it from you because I think it's broken," he explained while giving the last look of the phone now full of cracks.
 
"You damn kid! I will kill you!" she shouted maximum to her lungs inside the car.
 
"See, I made the right decision." He then drove towards Francesca's car. After that, they went straight home to have a rest for the day.

Eldric McMillan is a young master from a wealthy family. He is a recessive Alpha and emotionally weak due to an accident when he was a kid. It is not a problem as his family is warmhearted and is taking care of him constantly. But because of this, he lived nothing special until a specific night happened.

Everything was just right, but what if the thing you didn't even think of happened? Wherein the warmth that turned to cool and the things that you are keeping and preserving befalls?

"Boss, boss! Get back inside!"  
A kid who should have been just around ten years old tried to shove Doug and Han into the old building.Two other children came running towards them from a street ahead of them and waved wildly.  
If it weren't for the situation, one might have thought they were just chasing each other around. Han pulled out his wand from his pocket and glanced across the street.  
There didn't seem to be any visible threats, and yet he tensed.
The street was now empty, except for the three young kids in front of him. Still that didn't mean he could dismiss the idea of any danger as he tried to find any remaining mana within his body. It was like tapping into the recesses of a dried up well.  
Still, Han looked at the kid and frowned. "What's the situation?"  
"Guardsmen!" the boy whisper-shouted and threw a look at Doug. "It's the one with the spear!"
"Wait, he's finally out of the clinic?" Doug rubbed his face and threw a look at Han. If he assessed this situation, then this guy was uninvolved. It was strange for the Guardsmen to do patrols here, but maybe this guy was just lucky. "I mean it's probably safe for you and you can get escorted—"
"No, no. They're just two Guardsmen and a couple of teenagers. I think the target shifted from this guy to them, and I already saw the other gangs coming out." Another boy insisted and shook his head. "Mari and I already saw them closing in on them!"
The girl shoved her hands into tattered shorts. "It's best we keep out of it, Doug. But maybe if you're quick we can get your friend back to the Academy."
Before Doug could protest at the fact that Han wasn't his friend—Han frowned and slapped a hand over his forehead. The description of the kids matched what was in his mind word for word.  
"Well fudge it it all, I know them."
"What?"
"Unless I'm wrong, which I can be—that group are my classmates." Han scratched the back of his head. A smile crossed on his lips. "I didn't think they'd actually go out of their way to find me, er, but drama aside—I mean, it's about four weaponless Students and two Guardsmen. I haven't seen any spear or anything at all."
"They're fucked then." the girl said.
"Not if I can stop them—" Han said and then paused as the four kids gave him blank looks.
"Mister, you had to run earlier." the girl said. "If you hadn't stumbled into our place by accident then you'd have been a dead body in the street in the morning or somewhere else."  
He sighed and threw a look at the street ahead of them, straining his ears to hear if there were any fights breaking out. "I know it's stupid. But do you guys have weapons? Can I borrow them and I'll toss it to my friends."
He wasn't about to ask kids to pick up a fight with him and save Donovan and the others.  
But even just the thought of a fight between his classmates made him wary, this wasn't just large spiders or wyverns but actual people. Neither was this actually a spar where you could call it off.
"Do you think we'll just give them to you?" the first boy looked at him baffled. "They're not free."
"Their best chance is escaping—but I don't think they'll be able to do it if everyone participates in the fight." Another said.  
"Well, if Ryden tries to leave—I bet he could, but he wouldn't just abandon them."
"I know that Slug Fist has a vendetta against him. Bet it's going to be nasty if he just got out of the clinic."
"If he runs then he can call reinforcements."
"It'll be too late, by then. Especially if it's that guy, Bo he's with."
Somehow, the conversation quickly descended into some kind commentary about their survival. Han's classmates and what was going to happen. Even if he left now—what was the best he could do? He needed to get his hands on a mana potion—
Doug shoved a knife towards Han, nearly stabbing him in the face. "Here's mine. Use it, since I don't think you can use that wand unless you're poking someone in the eye with it. Actually, maybe we should go." the boy glanced at his friends.
"What? Boss—we're going to get involved in that? No way!"
"Then I'll go and help," Doug said. "At least I'll earn levels while fighting tougher enemies."
"I know they said that, but they're really higher level—"
He cut off the squabble and picked up the knife from the boy. He managed a grin. "Hey hey, I appreciate the knife but I can't ask that." Han pocketed the weapon, already walking forward and looked back at them, "I mean if any of you got a mana potion—I'd appreciate it. But other than that, thanks for saving me."
Without waiting for another word, he began to run—and then dodged another knife that came behind him.
"You can use that too!" Another boy shouted. "It's rusted so it'll hurt more!"
Han swiped it up and shouted a quick thanks, and then he ran off.

Once the young man disappeared into the street, the four kids shared a silent look together. It seemed like their job was finally over, which hadn't been that hard. For the last half hour, they remained as a lookout and ensured that Han hadn't been tracked to their place. The group of kids still relied on the previous horror of their mentors, but now, they were free to do as they pleased.
"He's stupid." one of the boys decided loudly. A grin cracked up on his lips. "I like that. Too bad he's going to die though."
"Argh, the exit is just a couple streets down in the opposite direction—and I don't think anybody else is watching it anymore." the girl groaned and shook her head. "I'm going in though." Without another word, she slid back to the apartment.
Doug crossed his arms. "Well, it's not like he'd abandon his classmates. I mean they're probably just like us who watch each other's backs."  
"Heh, Hailey and I did leave you back then though."
Doug half-glared at the boy. "Yeah, I didn't forget that, Trav."
Max shrugged and looked back. "They're supposed to be from the Academy—do you think they're actually any good?"
"Nah, combat experience? They're good as ants in the street."
"You think we could watch though?"
"Watch? Seriously? Are you out of your mind!"
"If we're fast, we can probably loot some bodies."
"Not a great idea."

They were surrounded, trapped.
Boaz was the only one who had a weapon—well, someone snatched it from his hand.
"I can use this better than you!" Ryden said and pointed the sword at the largest guy that approached them. It was an extremely huge guy—and his nickname really didn't fit him. "Hey, Hey, Slug Face, nice to see ya. Did ya miss me?"
The guy didn't move like a slug, but rather slugged very hard.
"Heard you just got out of the clinic. What you doing in our territory?" another Thug swaggered. "Asking for a beating, huh!"
Slug Face—er, Slug Fist threw a nasty look at the Thug who clamped his mouth shut. One of his friends elbowed the random thug, before Slug Fist addressed Ryden again. "It seems like you're doing a little tour around this place—what is this, did you give up your post as a Guardsman?"
"Hah, nah nah. We're just using this as a shortcut—you didn't happen to see one of my kids though?" Ryden cocked a grin.  
Boaz thought it was idiotic that his friend was spilling the beans… and yet, his Diplomat Skills were useless in this hour. Unless he could just get a lighter beating? He threw some looks at the young men and the sole woman with them and gritted his teeth.  
He and Ryden could attempt to make a break for it, but not without risking them.
"I think it's best that you don't touch a single stray hair of any of us if you know what's good for you." the Diplomat said—more on threatening, than actually being a good Diplomat if he was to be honest.
"And why's that, Joe?"
Boaz's expression flattened at the name.
"Oi—he's name is Bo! And I'm the only one who calls him that." Ryden swung the sword around like a kid. He did a few thrusting stabs in the air—which wasn't effective for a sword, unlike a spear.
Boaz threw him a look.
Ryden sighed and said, "But yeah, he's right—we're not here to fight. It's actually best if you let us through."
It took a great amount of forcing for Ryden to actually say it.  
Even if he was out of duty for a couple of weeks now, it didn't mean he'd actually let it pass when there were so many criminal folks around them. Somehow, if he'd let them go now—it meant that they'd hide even better next time.  
This was a chance for a proper arrest if he actually had his weapons with him. If being a quite important word. And if he had a lot more Guards with him.
"Hah! Backing out from a fight, huh? What's so special about these kids—think they'll fetch a good price?"
