There was a knock on the door which I ignored. It repeated itself as my fingers slowed and the punch, punch, punch of the keys cooled. Setting my Marlboro on the lip of the ashtray I walked to the door, pulled on a tee and unlocked the round chrome handle. Mrs. Chu lingered in the hallway, more uncertain than I'd ever seen the ballsy Korean boarding school mistress. Smiling with her entire face she 
inched forward and I prayed to God that Johnny would remain unconscious and silent for a little longer. 
 'How is the writing coming along, Douglas?' 
 'Slow, painful, like passing walnuts.' I said before adding I 
imagine.
 'I read your book,' she said more to the ground than my face. I had birthed and sent out Love For Sale: Inebriated Adventures in LaLa Land through a small beatnik publishers in Venice with zero success. It dealt with a lot of demons not to mention my attempted exit stage left 
in this very room 'I thought it very good, very shocking but good.' 
 'Thanks Madam Chu.' 
 She giggled every time I called her madam 'My daughter 
Veronica, she's med student at Brown. Her relationship ended and is coming home for the holidays. She's had bad time of it with emotionals 
and seeing…' 
 That I'm a head-case too. 
 '…that you've had your problems…' her voice broke and the words faltered as though victim of an unreliable power supply. 
 'I'll talk to her if you want.' 
 'She's a good girl, very smart, very sensitive…'

She came! She actually came! I felt happiness surged through my body. My smile reached my ears. The photographer noticed this and said. 

"This is the first time I've seen you smile like this!" I guess he noticed that i wasn't looking at the camera but rather something or someone behind it. He turned to look who was behind him and saw her. He smirks. "So that is why." Kaylie jumps in the conversation and says. "Yes, indeed." 

Maisie walks closer towards us and I decided to go closer too. I run up to her and she giggles. Sweet giggling. "I'm so glad you could make it!" I tell her excitedly. "Me too! Your dad allowed me to accompany you today." Her smile was as sweet as her scent. 

Okay, that sounded creepy. 

I offered her a chair to sit so she could rest a little while we continue the shoot. After the photoshoot, I went to my changing room and got into some comfortable but classy clothes. Classy enough to impress her. Then I walk out and saw Kaylie talking to Maisie. 

Kaylie better not be telling her that I have feelings for Maisie! 

Sometimes, I don't trust Kaylie. She's mischievous. 

"Hey, guys. Ready to go, Maisie?" I just wanna get Maisie as far from Kaylie as possible. "Yeah, I am." Maisie stands up from the chair. Kaylie butts in and asks. "Where ya guys goin'? On a date?" She's sly. I glare at her to make her shut up. She raises her hands in surrender. "It could be a date if he calls it one." Maisie winks at me. 

I was rendered speechless. I did NOT expect that to come from her mouth. All the blood rushes up my cheeks and I start choking on my words. 

"I-uu-hee-waa..." My mouth trails off. Kaylie laughs hysterically at me. "This-HAHA-is just-AHAHA-too good!" Maimai grabs my hand and I completely lose my cool. I feel like I'm melting to a pile of goo. "C'moonnn! I'm so excited for what you planned for our date." She's acting all cute, tugging my arm and it's goshdamn working! 

All I did was absentmindedly take her to my car as she bid Kaylie good bye. What a stupid move. Say something! 

I opened the door for her and she thanked me then I sat in the driver's seat. I stared still at the parking lot. I hear her giggle and she tries to snap me out of my trance. "Did you know the almonds are on sale in the supermarket?" My eyes widen. "Which supermarket?!" She laughs and wave her hands. "Sorry I just had to break your trance." I pout. I love almonds. She knows I'm crazy for them. "But we could go look for ones that are on sale." She suggested. Even though that was a thoughtful idea I still have to take her to lunch. "You need to eat lunch first." I say while poking her forehead. "We." She strictly emphasizes. "I'm on a diet." I try to argue but she glared at me so I decided we are eating lunch. 

You're lucky I don't want you to be unhappy. 

"Thanks!" She cheers and plays some songs in the car. 

We arrive at my favorite restaurant. "It's been a while since you ate here, right?" She asks. "Yeah, it has. The food here is amazing, I tell ya." I'm so glad I get to eat here with her. "You're so biased." She teased and got out the door. 

Wait! I didn't get to open it for you... 

Insert sad Axell noises. I'm such a failure. I get out of the car aswell and locked it. She walks by my side as we enter the restaurant. There were only a few people and that's one of the reasons why this is my favorite restaurant. 

"Ooh! Let's sit by the window!" Mai points to an empty table with two seats. I think she has a thing for windows since she likes looking at beautiful views. If she does though, shouldn't she have a thing for mirrors instead of windows? "Ofcourse, my dear." I coo in her ears and she just laughs. It's not fun when she laughs everytime I try to flirt with her. 

We shared a delicious meal and a meaningful conversation. This time I got to know a little about her past. Her father left her mother when she was pregnant with Maisie. Soon after, her mother died and Maisie was left in the care of her mother's sister then she moved out when she got a job. Apparently her first jobe wasn't at my dad's company. She worked as a tenant at the supermarket before stepping foot into the Alaire company. Which is pretty rad! I hope I'll get to know more about her soon... 

Wait. I have to ask her for her phone number!!! 

"Hey, let's switch numbers." I suggested cheerfully.

"I love her and she bears your grandchild!"

"I don't want her to."

"Then I don't want to be your son."

When she found out she was pregnant, she was happy. Not because she bore his baby but because this could be her ticket to escape. 

"Please. Please be with me."

"No no no... please stand up..."

"Not until you say you'll stay."

Everyone noticed the confident smile on Li Yuanfei’s face. His confidence seemed to be emotionally contagious. That was 120% of confidence, no doubt at all. 
Why is he so confident? That was a question in everyone’s mind. 
Most of the reporters had attended such ceremonies many times. In one hand, they could finish their work; on the other hand, the cash gift was very attractive… They had seen many owners of huge enterprises. They all faked confidence in such situations. The reporters were bright; they could tell who was really confident and who was not. 
Li Yuanfei was the real confident one. 
After the opening, he looked down to the audience from above, as if he was their majesty the King. 
"Welcome, everyone, to this ceremony. This is very important to us. I assure you this is going to be a ceremony full of fun!" There weren’t any notes in his hands. His speech was spontaneous. 
"In this ceremony, we are here not only to celebrate our brand-new headquarters building, but also to reveal the new logo of our company."
Oh? The reporters started whispering. 
A new company logo? That was interesting. 
The old logo of Stars Pet Chain Supermarket was a big golden star with a line of small stars in a curve. It was not special, but it was a good logo. What would a good logo look like?
"I think," a reporter said to Yu quietly, "They might pick an animal as a logo. They are a pet store, right?"
Qian Tong responded, "I agree. Is it going to be a cat or a dog?"
"It might be a lion or a tiger, the king of all animals. It is mighty and powerful, a great fit to Stars Pet’s position in the industry."
Yu said, "It might be a dragon, which is even more powerful?"
Qian Tong and the reporter both agreed that it couldn’t be a dragon. 
Li Yuanfei successfully made everyone curious. He smiled, walked over to the red cloth, and landed his hand on the red cloth. 
Every reporter and cameraman all focused on the red cloth.
"Here, I present to you… the new logo of Stars Pet Chain Supermarket!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he pulled off the red cloth. 
Hundreds of people’s eyes landed on the mascot. 
Silence. 
After a short period of silence, people started murmuring to each other. 
"What the heck is it?"
"Is it a… cat? It looks like a cat…"
"I don’t think it is a cat…"
"This is so difficult…"
The reporters were not the only ones to whom the logo was revealed to for the first time. Many of the lower-level staff members had never seen it before either. 
The people’s reactions were all within Li Yuanfei’s expectation. 
In fact, this logo was the subject of a heated discussion within higher management because it was not clear what it was or meant. 
"Okay," he looked at his watch, "It is about time. I have to catch a flight. Our PR manager will take care of you guys…"
The PR manager walked up to the podium right away. 
Li Yuanfei walked towards his Cadillac limousine. 
The driver was waiting by the door and opened the door for the boss. 
Li Yuanfei sat inside the car, stretched, and made himself comfortable. 
Bang! Bang!
Someone knocked at the window. 
At a glance, Li Yuanfei saw that it was the senior manager from the company’s legal department. 
He opened up a small gap. 
"What is it?" He asked. 
"Something went wrong in the franchise store in Binhai city. The owner is a suspect for hiring someone for intentional assault. He was arrested and we are handling this matter," The manager knew his boss well enough so he was brief and to the point. 
"Binhai city?" Li Yuanfei was surprised. Didn’t the <Pet Hunter> game send a tip about detecting an elfin in Binhai city?
Was it a coincidence? It had to be. 
He waved, meaning that he got it. He didn’t need to give any instruction. If he had to take care of everything, then many people would lose their jobs.
He closed the window. 
"Go to the airport," he said to the driver.
The Cadillac started slowly. After closing the window, the car was completely quiet; even the PR manager’s speech was blocked outside the window. 
Li Yuanfei had more important issues to think about… the chance to meet with the Secretary of Commerce was hard to come by. He had to fetch this opportunity to impress him. Everything could be prepared on the plane. 
Turning on his cellphone, he quickly grasped the news. 
It was almost Single Day sale festival, the biggest online sale event in the country. Many e-commerce tycoons were getting ready to roll up their sleeves.   
Of course, every year, the two big rivals were in a fierce competition. 
Since he knew that they were players of the game, he comprehended the news from a brand-new perspective.

Under fanatical faithful and worship powers, the bowing cat turned into an Elfin.

The building with a perfect RMB note ratio was disappearing from the rear mirrors as the car drove far. 
He noticed there was a note under his feet, so he picked it up. His shoes were clean so the note was very clean. It looked almost brand-new – in fact, it was brand-new. 
There were some more 100 Yuan notes scattered inside the car. Those notes were not there before he got out of the limo. Also, besides him, no one had gotten in the vehicle. 
He picked up all the magical notes and rolled them in a black case. He was very familiar with this, as if he had done it a thousand times. 
Half-closing his eyes, he started to rest. 
In the meeting in Beijing, he really wanted to meet the other two players. He would’ve enjoyed seeing their desperate and terrified faces. He was so ready for that moment. 
He didn’t really need to capture other Elfins, which was a waste of his time. 
He was not interested in the Pet King Battle, which was hilarious and meaningless to him. 
His Maneki-neko was unbeatable because it perfectly represented RMB. 
Except…he opened his eyes, pulled out his cell phone and searched something.

Worries somewhat came up in his heart. He locked the cell phone.

It begins with a rumbling deep within the building.
Aiden and Brad's first instincts tell them that it's an earthquake, that is how massively the sound and vibration resonate with the living beings that have no other explanation, naive of the otherworldly.
They hide under the dining table. Aiden's dining table is a weak, unstructured piece of furniture that she got on sale at a flea market. It has character, but she didn't have its structural strength in mind when she bought it.
The infrequent happenings of earthquakes in this area make the people in this town almost completely unknowledgeable towards this aforementioned emergency. Aiden has only heard in passing a few facts about what to do should an earthquake happen. Some say to seek shelter in between rooms, under doorways. But others have said to hide under tables.
In the end, after a minute of chaotic running around the room like headless chickens, after the pressure caved in their clear thinking, Brad dives under the whimsy dining table with Aiden in tow, unable to accept any other explanation but a delusory earthquake.
"Do you think it's safe under here? I feel like this table can't survive much of anything," Aiden whispers to Brad, who mirrors her stooped-low form beside her.
"I don't know," Brad whispers back. "You couldn't have bought a more durable table?" His voice is calm, but his hands shake on the ground as he tries to steady himself against the trembling hardwood floor.
"Yeah, well, I didn't exactly buy it for earthquake protection," Aiden says.
Just then, Karlie waltzes in through the front door, having returned from her own apartment down the hall. She freezes midstep when noticing that both her friends have disappeared. She looks around and does a double take when she spots them.
"What the hell are you guys doing under there?" she questions out loud. On her face is the telltale sign of her starting to question their sanity.
"Karlie, get down here! There's an earthquake!" Brandon hisses, waving for Karlie to join them under the table.
"Okay," says Karlie, moving closer to them. "Um, one question, what earthquake?"
"You don't hear that sound?" asks Aiden. They pause their bickering for a few seconds to listen for the deep rumbling. It sounds like a monster stirring from a long slumber, waking the whole of the building with the inhale and exhale of its vast lungs.
"Oh, that?" Karlie relaxes and moves to sit on the couch. "It's probably the maintenance guys repairing the pipes, the water shut off already," she continues to say nonchalantly.
Aiden and Brad look at each other, their heads turning in harmony in what would be a comical scene if not for the apprehension still left in their eyes. Brad scoots out from under the table and straightens his stance hesitantly. 
"That's not what it usually sounds like . . ." Brad starts to question, remembering the few times he was present in the past when it happened.
A loud thunder booms from outside, sending wracking quakes throughout the whole building. All three of them jump simultaneously. Then, as if the thunder was an insolent cue, a multitude of events happen all at once. A collective of screams pierces through the window from the streets below, just as the lights overhead blink a few times before turning off infinitely, immersing the whole apartment in absolute darkness. The power for the whole apartment has died, it seems; they can no longer hear the light hummings of modern technology all around them. 
The deep rumbling within the building that was the source of their previous altercation starts to deplete, like a sound being submerged underwater, before disappearing altogether with a loud, short screech. 
Then complete and utter silence. 
A moment passes without any of them moving a muscle.
"What the hell?" Karlie whispers so quietly that if it wasn't for the absolute silence, they wouldn't have heard her. 
Aiden scrambles through the darkness to reach the kitchen counter, extending her hands in front of her to feel for her phone. Her hand touches a cold and slim rectangular object and she grasps it hastily to turn on her phone's flashlight. The light from behind her phone cuts through the darkness, washing the whole room in a dim white glow. 
Everything in the room seems exactly like it was just a minute ago, yet Aiden seems to feel that something has changed, like the air all around them has been completely vacuumed out and replaced. The air particles, cast bright by the flash in Aiden's hand, floats around them slowly, giving the familiar room an evil foreboding. 
"What just happened?" Brandon is the first to break the uncomfortable silence. His voice, in a volume that would have otherwise sounded normal in another setting, sounds too loud now with the absent of other everyday noises. They couldn't even hear the typical street noises that would usually float up to the apartment on the third floor. No car honks; no dog barks; no sound of a door being slammed from the lobby's front door on the ground level.
"I think . . . the power's out in the whole city," Aiden replies slowly, hesitantly. 
"The window," Karlie says as she moves to the window on the far side of the room that overlooks Weston Street below. Aiden and Brad stand behind Karlie as she moves the drapes aside to look out. 
Aiden was right, or rather—Aiden could have been right. The power to the whole city could have been out, but there was no view proofing them of that fact. The world outside is clearly void of any light, but they couldn't be sure if it is caused by the absent of power, or because of the thick gray fog that has now blocked their view of the outside.

We lay next to each other, both of us not saying a thing, but I feel comfortable. I don’t have the impulse to have to talk to him to avoid an awkward silence because it has never been awkward with Ash, I realise. 

“You asleep?” he whispers to me. 

“Nope,” I reply quietly. “It’s weird because my body is so tired but I can’t seem to shut my brain off.” 

“Me neither,” he says. I hear the crackling of the fresh sheet under us move and realise Ash has turned to face me.  

“Uhm, what?” I ask dubiously. 

“Nothing, I’m just trying to find a comfortable position.” 

“Okay,” I say as I stare at him in the dim glow of the candles. 

Ash stares back at me, his hand lifts to push away a strand of hair that has fallen into my eyes, then he closes his eyes. He is asleep in the next moment, with his hand frozen on my cheek. 

Usually, with anyone else, I would push his hand away because it feels wrong and uncomfortable. But his caress felt good against the slight burn on my skin. And as he rests his hand on my cheek, I can’t help but think about how no one has ever held me close to them and makes me feel this way. Even though Ash and I are far from holding each other close, just a touch of his hand comforts me in ways that others’ hugs have tried and failed. 

Without much thinking, I push Ash’s fallen hair out of his eyes and rest my hand against his cheek. In the next moment, as my eyes start to droop, I feel a pull of his cheek against my palm and realise he is smiling.

When an apartment building is plagued by a strange substance in its water, its residents uncover a foreboding mystery that will perish them all. With a deadly fog that blocks their escape, they must now forget their differences and work together to overcome the horrifying events that ultimately threaten their survival.

The long-awaited break time finally come. As usual, the classroom 2-2, the room that was originally tidy when there was a teacher in it turned into like it had just been hit by a tornado. Food and wrappers were scattered everywhere. Some of them are assembled with their own 'gangs'. Unlike the boys who are busy with combs and mirrors. The world is upside down in classroom 2-2, where boys need the face powder and the mirrors more than the girls. Especially Juan, a boy in classroom 2-2. Meanwhile, Isti is still busy with the textbook that has just been learned.
Now classroom 2-2 is getting more and more chaotic because of the arrival of a transfer student who feels he knows everything, but in reality, he doesn't. And his name is Oka. Their job is just playing acrobatics in front of the class, like a clown. The front of the class has now changed its function to become like a multi-purpose stage for the boys. Some were wrestling, singing, dancing, or being annoyed for female students. Once in a while, they tease Angel, a female student who is always updated on her social media. However, all of that was different 180 ° in reality. This made Angel bullied in the class. Aside from that, Angel also often wears makeup that doesn't really match her face and age, it's too much.
Yuki and her friends from another class went to the cafeteria through the chemistry lab. she saw their seniors do experimenting with Mr. Rahmat who was watching from the door. Arriving in the class, Yuki immediately joined Melly, Tiwi, and Rianis.
"Hey !! Do you all know what?" Yuki asked.
"No!" Tiwi and Melly replied spontaneously. Yuki immediately showed a sullen face.
"Haha ...! Sorry, kidding! Why?" Tiwi asked.
"That, seniors are doing experiments again in the lab with Mr. Rahmat!" Yuki said.
"Hah! Most of all the students' work! Mr. Rahmat will only show his teeth if the experiment is successful!" Melly said.
"Um ... See it later!" Rianis continued with a cruel smile. Now the four of them were silent for a moment. Then returned to discussing other interesting topics.

He was horrified by his surroundings. Shortly thereafter, Iki found his friends and tried to persuade them to return to class immediately.
