The National University Games were a comprehensive sporting event. The competition scale was no less than any of the other games, but had competitions less often. It worked the same way for the World University Games and the National University Games.
The National University Games, for example, although the competitions were slightly tweaked each year, the total number of events was always around ten.

Meanwhile, there were also some non-Olympic events, such as martial arts, aerobics, and orienteering. There were also activities like Contract Bridge.
There were about eleven competitions in the University Games, and events like martial arts, aerobics, and orienteering made up about half of them. There were only six or seven real sports-related programs.　　
Although there weren't many programs, there were still many candidates. There were over 6,000 students signed up. In comparison, the Olympics only had around 10,000 candidates. It was truly a large amount of people considering it was only a university competition.

Many top athletes would go to college and finish their undergraduate studies, but when they were given the opportunity to be in the games, they would definitely skip school for it. They needed the experience and opportunity toget exposure.
Once you were involved in national contests, you couldn't go to the National University Games. Because of this, athletes in the University Games were usually not top athletes. They were not capable of being in other national contests, which meant the University Games were their only shot.
Guohong Niu was an exception. He was qualified enough to join the national team, but he didn't want to be there; instead, he had stayed in university to continue his training. This was mainly because Guohong Niu was studying in Tsinghua University, and had an emotional attachment to the famous school. Therefore, when Dai Li heard there were athletes as good as Guohong Niu coming to the game, he was really surprised.

Hi! For my QI readers, I realised that you didn't get to read how I started writing Spirit Immortal. So below is a short description of myself!


Background about myself and inspirations for writing Spirit Immortal
Currently, I am a university undergraduate, and I have been reading fiction for years. I first got into reading fiction because of anime. Initially, I was a pure anime/manga fan. But I then found out about the existence of light novels. Light novels were far ahead from the existing anime, so I started to binge read translated volumes on Baka-Tsuki. It became somewhat of a drug to me. I kept reading and eventually, fictions had become part of my daily life. However, everything changed when the Yen Press attacked… Suddenly, many of my favourite novels disappeared, and less and less light novel translations surfaced. 

Finding myself in a severe deficit of fictions to read, I found something called Novelupdates. Every few minutes, there was a new novel chapter being released. I was overjoyed. Finally, I was able to satisfy my daily fiction needs. That was how I got into wuxia/xianxia novels. Being ethnically Chinese and fluent in both English and Chinese, there was a great allure for me in these stories. When I was younger, I would frequently watch The Legend of the Condor Heroes and many what we call "wuxia xiaoshuo." So seeing that the traditional stories blend with modern themes was somewhat shocking to me. To think that such a part of the internet existed!

So I started reading a lot of wuxia/xianxia stories. I remember the early days of Coiling Dragon and Stellar Transformations. The friendly competition between Gravitytales and Wuxiaworld. But one day, I encountered Doulou Dalu. For those who have not noticed, Spirit Immortal's cultivation system is inspired by this very novel. The reason being, it was the only cultivation system that I could actually follow. It's a very simplistic system, rank 1-100. The other Wuxia novels cultivation systems confused the heck out of me. However, worry not, Spirit Immortal is not a fanfiction of Doulou Dalu. In fact, other than the cultivation levels, they are nothing alike.

For a while, Doulou Dalu was my favourite novel. To a certain extent, it still is my favourite translated wuxia/xianxia novel. But I started feeling bored. Every single book that I read followed the same format. And after many disappointing stories, I thought to myself… Hey, I could just write something I like!

Thus, the idea of Spirit Immortal started germinating in my mind. It took me over five months to finish plotting the major arcs, characters and finally the ending before I started typing my first word. Majority of the reason why it took so long for me to start writing this story is because of my procrastination and school. Additionally, I didn't know if the story was going to be well received. But eventually, I steeled my mind and said: "Whatever, as long as I am satisfied with the story, who cares?"

So yeah, currently the number one fan of Spirit Immortal is myself, and I can't wait to put the entire story I have in my head into words for all of you to read. It will take time though, so do stick around!


Issues I have had when writing Book Two
I have realised that many of you were unsatisfied with the pace of the story, saying that it is too slow and whatnot. And guess what, I agree! I have been putting the character and world development at the forefront of my story thus slowing down the story progression, However, fret not, now that the first two books are completed, the story progression would begin to expedite as I believe that I have sufficiently developed my characters!

I'm trying to be more descriptive in my writing but that is still a work in progress. Perhaps it would be the greatest hurdle for me but rest assured, I will try my best!

Another major issue I had was time management. I started writing Spirit Immortal during my semester break where I had plenty of time. I even managed to complete Book 1 during that break itself! However, once school started, I had to figure out a way to balance work, personal life and writing Spirit Immortal. There were some days where I only had three hours to efficiently write, proofread and edit my chapter before I deemed it ready to be published. Hence, there might be times where my writing quality dropped slightly but I'm trying my best to ensure that I retain and even improve on my writing quality, so please be patient with me on that one.


Future of Spirit Immortal
Once my semester break hits once more, I will be sitting myself down in order to write as many chapters as I can. Perhaps, eventually, I will take the road of creating a ******* account to allow you guys to read advance chapters and at the same time, give myself some funding to weather through the school days. 

So yeah, I can't thank you guys enough for continuing to stick with me as I continue to write Spirit Immortal. I hope that I will be able to deliver the satisfying fiction that I have conjured up and brought you as much enjoyment as I had in writing this story!

The winner of my prompt was a book that is now on hiatus. No other entries qualified. At the time I didn't realize that having votes was the rank qualifier. So my book was instantly disqualified.
Despite not making it past the car park, so to speak, I kept this story going. I had moved it to Wattpad and continued to post chapters there.
I entered it into a Wattpad community award, and had eventually won the award for Historical Fiction, but never received the prize for it. 😆
That's okay. Knowing that my writing was enough to be a winner in a judge's eyes was cool. It won over some quality stories as well. That was a prize enough for me.
After some time, I started posting the story to Tapread where it picked up read interest there. Then I got a ping from Islinda who liked the lone chapter I had left on the book page.  
This story has been a blast to write. I'm proud of what I've been able to achieve with it. I have no regrets of what I leave behind, as I have given my best shot.

Whelp, I guess this is the end (for now at least). I remember back two months ago when I was writing my first work, the fanfic for Chojusen, I said something along the lines of  "I want to be known as the dumb dumb Author who finishes his novels and doesn't quit just because he "fell off..." And as I reflect on the decision I'm making right flipping now, I'm just as disappointed in myself as you guys. It's just, I'm not quitting because I fell off, rather, my lack of taking off in the first place is what's destroying what little motivation I have for writing this novel.

I don't know if you can understand what it's like to watch as the days go by and your work never makes any progress. What it's like to see other novels take off while yours is abandoned. Now, hopefully I don't offend any other authors on the site with words like the ones I'm throwing around right now, if your novel has taken off its more likely than not that you are competent as a writer and your work is deserving of its attention. I'm probably just coming off as a whiny bitch for being unsuccessful in my first venture as an original writer and to an extent, even I agree with that sentiment. It's just, I what to express myself in as open a manner as can be and realizing my frustrations through writing like this is what I feel helps.

I'm pretty sure I contributed in a large part to why my novel is so unpopular. I mean I started off with a message to everyone that it wouldn't be updating for a while and even after coming back I had to take another stop to go to Cuba. I give my own novels sub par review scores and even admit that I have no confidence in them. To anyone with even a modicum of logic, these are red flags and I'm not surprised that many people have turned away from reading.

However, for the last two or so months I've released almost 200,000 words and 112 chapters. And for the better part of those two months It's felt like I've been writing for no one. Sure the view counts update by the everyday and my collections count increase as well. But it's truly depressing to see only three or four comments per chapter; even though they are extremely appreciated. Honestly, if it weren't for the two or three people a see coming back every day — even if it is just to say "thanks for the chapter" — I wouldn't have made it for this long.

Even back when I was writing the other novel, where I would get things about the canonical story wrong or when I made a decision that didn't sit right with some of the readers, getting mean/harsh comments would be infinitely better for my motivation — and I'm assuming other authors as well — than just silence.

Well, that's enough of that nonsense so here's what I've decided to do. Writing this novel, even before I began publishing, is grating as I feel no confidence in my skills as an author and that has only further declined with how little interest the novel has amassed over the two months. It's gotten to the point where I literally write to meet the quota I set up for myself of 1 chapter a day and for bonus opportunities like power stone incentives. (Wait this is still rambling! Sorry...)

Anyways, the problem with motivation is more impactful than you guys can imagine as I literally know what to write next and how the story should progress, but just sitting before my computer and trying to type for what I've already doomed to failure causes distractions to magically manifest; like when you have homework and just so happen to find a dozen videos you'd much rather watch than do your duty. 

Thus, I'm deciding to not "drop" the novel and only put it on hiatus for now. Maybe if I become less whiny in the future and my career as an writer doesn't tank, I'll return to continue updating the story… But for now, I think I'll move on to enter in the webnovel weekly contests and write stories that gain an actual audience. If all else fails, I can somewhat confidently say that I'll return to this story eventually as I'm done with its outline and whatnot. The only thing I ask of you is to forgive me for wasting your time like so many other authors who don't finish their work and to remember that I'll eventually come back to finish what I started; maybe not now or in a year but eventually, I'll come to finish this story… 

P.S. I'll be writing under another pseudonym for a while, else the bad reputation I just created might come to haunt me if I do get successful. So, if you're still a "fan" of either me or this story, sorry you won't be able to find what I'm working on for now… (The characters I write might be dense and stupid, but I think this shameless move is the most pragmatic.)

Hello, to anyone who still cares enough to read this. 

Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to the people who gave me feedback on my novel and supported me during my short three-week run. For that, I am eternally grateful. 

I kind of disappeared out of the blue without saying anything because I couldn't take it anymore. It was stupid of me to do, but here I will be trying to list my reasons and I hope you can understand.

I began to write for WebNovel after seeing their advertisement for up and coming authors to make a living off of writing. I hate myself for being so naive. Looking back on it now, it was like falling for any other scam on the internet. Stuff like "Doctor's hate him because ... " and "Sign up to win ... " Etc Etc. 

As a twenty-three-year-old university student working two jobs, the only time I could fit to write was during the hours of 12 am and 5 am. It was literally killing me to publish chapters as I began to fall asleep in class, and my performance at work got a bit sloppy. 

But for the most part, I enjoyed writing the chapters because I loved to write. I loved to publish a chapter and stalk it until someone posted a reply. That moment when the first person said something meant the world to me. Because it meant someone cared that my story existed, and for this reason, I tried to push myself to put out more and more chapters. 

Things started to go wrong though, as most things do. Webnovel's feedback system is the most depressing thing. It actively tracked how many people had my novel in their collection and how many total views the novel had. However, the only number that matter was the collections. 

The thing was, these numbers were always bugged and never gave me a clear indication as to the scale of my readers. Aside from the usual comments from return readers, the number didn't mean anything. It was like running in one spot, over and over without any clear indication to if I was making any progress. It's horrible when the work you put in seems to yield basically no results. 

I was feeling euphoric watching my collections pass 100. You guys don't know the scale to my happiness. I basically woke up my whole household in celebration.

Then, in the author's discord channel, they confirmed that everything on the interface was bugged. Yep, talk about a slap in the face. 

To summarize ... I was and still am a hopeful about making a career out of my writing. But doing it on Webnovel is ill-advised. Unless that is if you are writing a fan-fiction or another cliche 'system' novel. In that case, I believe you'll find much success. 

Also, if you guys want to know the biggest reason for my departure from WN; in the search function, look up 'Da Contract'. It's the actual web novel contract. Even if you guys don't know the lingo its fine. Just take a look through and you'll understand my frustrations. 

The staff never really cared about us authors either. They seldom gave out prizing for contests and were hush-hush about even attaining a contract. But reading through it ... this thing is a slave contract. I kid you not. Anyone who is desperate enough to sign, I give you my condolences. But it's completely and utterly unbefitting of a professional "employer-producer" relationship. 

And the fact that tried to keep the contract under wraps ... they knew what they were doing.

Thankfully, a fellow author "ink bamboo" was quick to point this out to me. Otherwise, I would possibly be still slaving away here, with no end in sight. I probably would have hung myself if all my stress ended up culminating with being presented with this contract ... 

There are so many things I want to say, but I find myself more and more depressed as I think about it. An entire month of my life down that drain ... it feels bad.

I was told to try my hand with self-publishing on Amazon with Kindle. I believe it's more worth it for me to try there. If people buy my book and like it, at least I can get immediate feedback. If it doesn't work out... well, I suppose it just means I don't have the talent for writing.

Imperious Edge will continue, but not here. Not in this depressing hellscape. 

To my frequent readers, I am sorry, deeply and truly sorry that I have let you down. I can only hope you understand my choices. I often end my chapters with a bow, and to that, I give you my final respectful gesture as I sign off here. 

Perhaps it's asking too much, but I hope you guys would care enough to support me in my endeavours to becoming an amateur author. When I publish my first Volume, I will update this.

Ryzen POV

It took a lot of kisses, tossing and turning all over before Lennox finally left.

He was very stubborn today, hesitant to go. It was my persistent nagging that made him leave in defeat.

"Then, you have to reply to my texts and calls, okay? I have to be able to contact you." he said gently.

Now that he mentioned it, I remembered that my phone was still on my purse from yesterday.

"Mmm, yes. I will." I replied.

I grabbed the collar of his shirt so he can lower his height a bit and face me closer. Then, I gave him a quick, sweet kiss on his lips.

When I moved away, he had a disgruntled face, disappointed at how short it was. 

"Go! Go now! It's going to be lunch time soon." I said, much to his annoyance.

Not giving him any chance to reply, I quickly pushed him out of the doorway.

I blew a kiss for him before closing the door, not minding the glare he gave me.

I heard him groan and after a little while, I finally heard his loud footsteps walking away.

When I assured that he really left, I let out a relieved sigh. 

For quite a long time, I found myself lying down on my bed again, lazing around. 

I was currently hugging the pillow that had his scent. It's really intoxicating and in some way, I could still feel his warmth. 

Tss. Am I crazy? How can it lead to this point, where I can be so addicted?

But really, for a while now, I was trying to communicate with that Mr. Red-haired man. 

I said my grievances through my thoughts and out loud, but it seems like they were no use at all. Mr. Red-haired man wouldn't reply at all...

Well, it's not like I'm not surprised... he's always like this. He would only communicate with me randomly, anytime he wants to. But when it is me trying to communicate with him, he wouldn't answer at all.

It's so unfair!

And, my head hurts too much just thinking about this mission, especially after what I found about regarding my origins.

Originally, I wanted to finish it, no matter what, just so I can reunite with my family. 

But now...

What do I feel? Do I still want to go back?

If I go back, would it be in this current timeline, or way before the accident happened? 

Ah, my head hurts again. It's just way too complicated.

Right now, I was already pronounced as 'dead' for so long... None of the bodies were retrieved from that accident at all.

To be precise, no matter how much I try to escape from the reality, it has been a very long time. 

Just from finishing Millen's undergraduate course, getting into medical school, volunteering at La Coron City... I have kept myself busy as well. 

If I were to come back to my body, how would I be able to explain it? 

Most importantly, I am uncertain on how I should face my family...

I closed my eyes for a while, then opened them again. Afterwards, I took a deep breath, as an attempt to relax.

I picked my phone, now fully-charged, that was lying on the bedside table.

Instantly, notifications from Lennox filled the screen. He sent several text messages and missed calls from yesterday.

Looking at his messages, my lips unconsciously curled up into a smile. 

But then, after I read his messages, my heart beat fast as I saw a message from Zaynah.  

She seemed to have sent me a message last night...

Zaynah: Hi, Millen! Did you come home safely? I'm sorry that I forgot you earlier. I was too lost in the moment. But, I will definitely fulfil my promise. I'll arrange a meeting date for you and my mum. But, she'll be going overseas for a little while. I don't know when she'll be back but I'll contact you. Stay safe and text me back! :)

Upon reading Zaynah's text, I actually feel relieved.

So... she's going overseas?

Maybe that's the best...

She's a brave soul. I could only imagine the courage she must've piled up in order to say that in front of the whole world.

Although my heart unconsciously ached upon remembering what happened again, it is the same heart that couldn't help but blindly admire her.

I don't know why, but I cannot put my feelings properly into words for now. I am uncertain on what I feel.

I don't want to act too rashly or decide on a whim. After all, she has been the most significant figure in my life.

But with her out of the country, I will have a little bit more time to think and analyse my feelings properly.

Perhaps, with time, a perfect resolution will finally come. 

I was about to start writing a reply for Zaynah, but suddenly, someone called me. 

I frowned upon looking at the name of the caller.

Xavier Ayala.

This guy, Xavier, has been annoying me the past few days. He would always call and text me. What's worse is, he would spam me with messages, asking me to meet up with him.

It's just kind of strange.

Sure, we were still in contact even after I finished Millen's undergraduate course...

But now, he has been persistent in contacting me more than usual, as if he wants something from me.

If he really wasn't one of Millen's close guy friends, I would block him right away. It is only out of respect that I haven't blocked him yet and only wait for his calls to stop.

Since I was too annoyed, I put my phone, that was still ringing, back on the bedside table.

I stretched for a little bit before finally standing up.

Thinking about it, maybe a walk can help me pass some time and think more clearly. 

There was a park just near my condo. It would only take a 5 minute walk to get there and it was a popular jogging place.

In some days when I do feel like it, I would also just jog around there instead of using the gym room in my condo. 

Quickly, I changed my clothes and decided to go out. 

For the first time, I found it funny how the bodyguards that Kenneth Yu set up tried their best just so I would not see their presence as I jog.

It was a hilarious sight, but I do appreciate their efforts. 

I am also thankful that they blend in well with the crowd. 

Instead of the fancy suits that the typical bodyguards would wear, they wore casual clothes so they can look like normal citizens and not cause discomfort for me.

But after jogging for a long time, I couldn't come up with a definite solution at all. It seems like I only wasted effort and energy on going out.

In a dispirited mood, I went back to my condo, entering through the main lobby.

I walked mindlessly, not focusing at my surroundings since I was ruminating too much.

"Millen!" someone suddenly shouted.

When I heard that name, instinctively, I stopped on my tracks and turned to the person who said it.

My eyes widened a bit upon seeing a familiar face sitting on the large lobby chair, looking at me with a cheerful smile.

Ryzen Ferrada is a renowned young doctor in the country. She is well-known and respected in the field due to her skills and beauty. Life seems to be going well for her... until she got into plane accident.

The next thing she knows, she was reincarnated in another body!? Apparently, she can't go back to her old body or ascend to heaven until she accomplishes her new body's lifetime wish: to become the girlfriend of La Coron City's mayor, Lennox Nico Zevallos.

However, things were different now that Zhang Fan was permanently assigned to orthopedic department #1. Zhang Fan's successful completion of this closed intramedullary fixation surgery was basically his way of establishing himself.
Zhang Fan had successfully completed a surgery that none of the three orthopedic directors could! They all had known that Zhang Fan was amazing before, but they had no exact idea of how amazing he was. Now, however, they knew that Zhang Fan's skill level in orthopedic surgery was already better than any of the three orthopedic directors'.
Anyone who could become a doctor or nurse wouldn't be an idiot. Zhang Fan instantly attracted lots of attention overnight. Zhang Fan's current status would be the equivalent of a local mafia leader or a clan leader in a xianxia novel!
Xue Fei was even happier than Zhang Fan because of the latter establishing his status. Before, Xue Fei hadn't really cared what was going on around him, but now he had more patients, which directly led to a rise in his income. Not only that, he didn't have to do much for the surgeries. Of course he would be happy. Xue Fei was on cloud nine every day.
Thus began Zhang Fan's daily work. The hospital's outpatient services were separated into three types: normal services, expert doctor's services, and special needs services. Zhang Fan's skill level was excellent, but his official rank was lacking, so he could only serve in the normal services section and charge three yuan per patient to see him. Most ordinary patients would gather during the morning. Things would slow down a lot more in the afternoon. The expert doctor's services section would always be busy whenever it was open. As for the special needs services, maybe that was the hospital's way of trying things out.
Zhang Fan's medical team was the team with by far the most patients. There was no helping it. The emergency department was both openly and secretly supporting him. Director Gao also favored him. There were also many people who sought him out for treatment. Since the weather was getting warmer, people were staying out more often, which meant more car accidents. The construction sites also began work, so there were more orthopedic surgery patients than during winter.
Vice Director Wang asked the hospital administration for several additional rotation doctors to help out in orthopedic department #1. Of course, these rotation doctors that came were all undergraduate students as graduate students wouldn't come unless they had the correct master's degree specialty. This generation of undergraduate students was different from Zhang Fan's generation. Chasu City Hospital was no longer hiring undergraduate students. The requirement was now graduate student at the very minimum. Even so, there were still undergraduate students who had been hired due to connections.
Three new rotation doctors arrived—two men and one woman. Zhang Fan's medical team had the most patients. The other doctors in the department weren't able to say anything about it, but there were plenty who were unwilling to accept the situation, as patients equaled money. Yet, there was nothing they could do to compete against Zhang Fan, because he worked far too hard. Even though Zhang Fan's medical team had the most patients, the vice director couldn't favor Zhang Fan's team, as that would cause rebellion from the other doctors.
All three rotation doctors wanted to join Zhang Fan's medical team because Zhang Fan actually paid money to rotation doctor Little Li. Of course, the vice director would never agree to this. In the end, just like last time, Vice Director Wang gave Zhang Fan's medical team the female rotation doctor, whose name was Jiang Nini. She was a local from the border province. Apparently, an ancestor of hers had been a high-ranking member of the military during the Ming Dynasty. Her family had deep roots here, and was said to have been quite powerful back in the time right after the end of the Qing Dynasty.
Jiang Nini's family was still quite powerful in the modern day. It seemed that she had relatives in just about every government system. She was mixed-blood and really tall for a Chinese woman, at around 1.72 meters. She had large eyes, thin lips, long hair which reached her shoulders, and white skin. It could be said that she was far prettier than the average woman.
When Jiang Nini arrived in the department, every single man, Zhang Fan included, took a long look at her. It was difficult to conceal her beauty even though she wasn't wearing any makeup. She had a special aura around her as she wore a new white doctor's coat and stuck her hands in her coat pockets. Her large blinking eyes seemed like they could speak.
Xue Fei was stunned to the point of only being able to smile foolishly when he heard that Jiang Nini had been assigned to their medical team. He told her in a sycophantic manner, "I'll lead you. Rest assured, I definitely won't let you work overtime with writing medical reports."
"Thank you, Teacher Xue. I'm here to learn, so of course I should write medical reports. Nice to meet you, Zhang Fan, Doctor Wang, and Li Yunhua." Jiang Nini greeted them in turn with a sweet voice. She was the type who would naturally be the center of attention in any crowd. Even Wang Yanan wasn't as pretty as she was. 
As a side note, Li Yunhua was the full name of rotation doctor Little Li. 
Xue Fei was going to suck up even more to her, but Wang Yanan became unhappy with him. Originally, they had been discussing how to handle the medical report workload. Little Li and Wang Yanan really weren't able to finish the medical reports by themselves. Zhang Fan said he would write medical reports as well, but Wang Yanan wouldn't agree. Thus, they were currently teaming up against Xue Fei. "Look at how you're acting. I'm going to call your wife if you keep acting like this!"
"Hey! You're being dishonorable here. What's wrong with me?" Xue Fei immediately stopped acting like an oaf after hearing this.
"Doctor Jiang, would you prefer to participate in surgeries or to write medical reports?" Wang Yanan asked. Very few women actually liked orthopedic surgery. Wang Yanan was a rare exception, which was why she asked.
"Doctor Wang, I can do anything that you want. Feel free to arrange the work for me. It would be better if I can participate in surgeries," Jiang Nini answered with a smile.
"Alright, Zhang Fan, you arrange the work."
"Brother Xue, pick one out of changing the patients' medicine, writing medical reports, and participating in surgeries. We'll pick after you." Zhang Fan need to first deal with the laziest member of his team. Otherwise, Xue Fei would refuse to do any work.
"Then I'll change the patients' medicine. Let me say now that I'm not going to do anything else apart from changing the patients' medicine!" Xue Fei immediately chose the easiest task for himself.
"You're so lazy!" Wang Yanan sneered at him.
"Hey, it's what I deserve for being the oldest!"
"Alright, let's not argue. Little Li, you don't like participating in surgeries, so you can write medical reports instead. Little Jiang, when our team writes medical reports—" 
Zhang Fan was interrupted by Jiang Nini as she chuckled. "You pay 30 yuan for every medical report, is that right? All of us rotation doctors have heard about it already, which is why we all wanted to join your team."
"Haha, that's good, then. That's how things are here. Alright, you can join surgeries whenever it's not too busy, and you can write medical reports when it's busy since you're not interested in orthopedic surgery in the future."
"Hey, you never know!" Jiang Nini answered with a laugh.
"Oh!" Zhang Fan broke out in a sweat. He felt like he couldn't understand women. He recalled from her paperwork that she was already chosen for the endocrinology department in the future! "Alright, it's fine if you want to join surgeries."
"Rotation doctors need to work overtime on night shifts as well. How about letting Little Jiang work night shifts with me?" Xue Fei started acting shameless again.
Everyone else directly ignored him. Zhang Fan simply continued, "We were really busy over the past few days. Little Li is really exhausted from working with the three of us. Let's do this. You two rotation doctors can work night shifts together with Doctor Wang. That should be more convenient as you're all women."
"Okay!"
Wang Yanan was more and more obedient to Zhang Fan these days, as well as more and more protective of him. This was because Zhang Fan would let her be the primary surgeon for any easier traumatic injury surgeries. He would act as her primary surgical assistant, which really helped Wang Yanan to improve rapidly. Although she had observed many surgeries over the past year, nobody had taught her step by step. Now that Zhang Fan was here, Wang Yanan could feel her surgical skill level improving at a visible pace. She was quite energetic every day because of this.
People who were really popular would always be busier. This saying was absolutely correct. As Zhang Fan's reputation spread in Chasu City Hospital, he also slowly became better known in Chasu City. More people started coming to him specifically to get treated.
"Zhang Fan, are you busy?" Zhang Fan received a phone call from Shao Hua. The people at her bank were slowly learning that her boyfriend was quite famous in Chasu City Hospital. Today, the bank's major account manager came to find Shao Hua for this matter.

"I'll have Manager Bai explain to you." Shao Hua handed her phone to Manager Bai.
"Hello, Doctor Zhang. Sorry to trouble you."
"It's fine, this is nothing. What's the matter with the child?"
"It's like this. It's my younger sister's son. She and her family lives in the nomadic district. Recently, they noticed that one of her son's shoulders is high, while the other one is low. They had him checked at the local city hospital, which told them that it was a spinal deformity. That's why I'm troubling you through Shao Hua."
"How old is the child?"
"He's six years old, almost seven already!"
"Alright. Please bring the child to the hospital. I'll check things out." Zhang Fan felt that this was inconceivable that the parents hadn't noticed such a deformity until the child was almost seven years old.
If this had happened in even a smaller city, this child's problem likely would have been discovered earlier. However, in the nomadic district, especially since the nomads didn't live at fixed locations, prenatal examinations, newborn health, and so on weren't very good, so many diseases would be discovered particularly late.
"Alright, Doctor Zhang. I have the X-ray. Should I bring it to you right now?"
"There's no rush, since the child's not with you. Feel free to give the X-ray to Shao Hua. I'll be able to see it tonight."

Later that night, Zhang Fan returned home and saw the X-ray that Shao Hua brought to him. Zhang Fan immediately commented, "This is congenital scoliosis."

"Will surgery be necessary?"

"I'm worried that you won't be able to treat it successfully!" Shao Hua said in a small voice. She wasn't afraid of losing face. She was more worried that something would happen to Zhang Fan. After being with Zhang Fan for so long, she now had a much better understanding of Zhang Fan's profession.
"Haha, it's fine, rest assured." Zhang Fan was unable to console her. He could only hope that as time passed, maybe Shao Hua would be more reassured or numb to this type of thing.
"Should I talk to Manager Bai about this tomorrow?" Shao Hua spoke softly while embracing Zhang Fan.
"Yeah. Tell her that she should have her sister bring the child to Chasu City Hospital as soon as possible."
On the next day, Zhang Fan performed surgeries all morning. However, his medical team had no patients that afternoon at all, since it wasn't their turn to receive patients. After he finished his surgeries, Zhang Fan immediately brought the child's X-ray over to orthopedic department #2's Director Wang.
"Director, are you busy?" He knocked on the door and entered to find that Director Wang was currently resting. Director Wang was slightly tired because he had also performed surgeries all morning.
"What is it? You're such a vicious little brat. Although everybody stole patients from each other before, nobody did things as viciously as you. You even monopolized every single bone fracture from the emergency department. Can you even finish all those surgeries? Make your own tea if you want as I don't feel like getting up."
Director Wang didn't get up, because he was too tired.
"It's fine. How about you rest for now and I return later?" Zhang Fan had already sat down before he said this. He did this on purpose. It wasn't like he had infinite free time. He wouldn't just wait for Director Wang to have a nap first.
"Fart already if you have anything to say!" Director Wang rested in his armchair with his eyes only open slightly as he gave Zhang Fan a sidelong glance.
"Haha, Director, take a look at this X-ray." Zhang Fan smiled as he turned on the projector and showed Manager Bai's nephew's X-ray.
"Congenital spine deformity! Where did you find such a patient? This patient is in really severe condition!" Director Wang became interested in this as he came over.
"This patient's family contacted me. The boy is six, almost seven years old."
"It won't be easy to do! How about trying brace therapy?" Director Wang suggested after studying the X-ray for quite a while.
"That probably won't be effective," Zhang Fan said from the side.
"This truly won't be easy to treat!" Director Wang muttered to himself while bending in front of the X-ray. He then seemed to suddenly realize something as he stood up straight, and asked Zhang Fan, "What, you want to perform surgery? You have a guarantee? This is a major surgery with a fairly high rate of failure."
"Are you afraid?" Zhang Fan chuckled.
"Damn you! This is a person, not a toy. Of course I'd be afraid." Director Wang then began to study the X-ray again. "This really won't be easy at all. Most normal orthopedic appliances won't fit in such a young child's body."
"Director, I'll leave this X-ray here so that you can study it. We can discuss things together once the patient arrives." Zhang Fan didn't want to say too much, since the patient wasn't here right now. He decided to let Director Wang have some fun. Zhang Fan then immediately left right after.
