I'm JayCeexxvi the Author of this story. I finally presents this 2020, which is first to publish wattpad and also here in webnovel.
This is entitled "The Innocent Killer" 

I started this story on January 25, 2020 and published in wattpad on March 29, 2020 and published here in webnovel on May 8, 2020.

Before i created this story, i conduct some research, surveys; and also ask for advices from my friends, mentors and Authors. I am a beginner writer but since then it was my biggest dream to complete story here in wattpad, but this time hoping that it will be accomplished and succeed. When i was a child, way back then when i was 12, i start writing poetry and short stories. When i was 15 years of age, i start reading stories here in wattpad. I also tried writing stories but my interest fades, thinking that maybe i'm not into writing.
This 2020, i start writing one shot stories and poetry in my Facebook account. Comments and feedbacks encouraged me to start writing story in wattpad.

Well… We've finally come to the end of Spirit Immortal. 

Hehe, I bet you guys didn't see it coming right? The cover of the book was actually the ending scene of the entire story! Haha, I did well to keep it under wraps for the two years I've been writing this story! Finally, I get to share it all with you!

For those that had stuck with me for the near two years, I've been posting Spirit Immortal… It's been quite the hell of a ride. There were many days where I wanted to quit writing this story and there were many times where I just wanted to say: "Fuck it! Let me just leave everything and just tell you the outline of Spirit Immortal straight up!" However, because of you guys, I gritted my teeth and completed the story. 

So… Before I begin the FINAL Author's Thoughts of Spirit Immortal, I want to give a huge thank you for all who supported me. Especially my Patrons, who had actually invested money into Spirit Immortal even though you guys didn't have to. There are some of you who have invested hundreds of dollars to support this project of mine and I don't know how else I could repay you for your continued support... 

Honestly, I lack the words to describe my gratitude, so I can only say this…

Thank you all for being the rock in my life, guiding me to complete the story that I dreamed about so many years back…

Alright, enough of the emotional stuff! Let's get to the real meat of the Author's Thoughts. This will be my longest Author's Thoughts yet so if you lack the time, you really don't have to read it all. However, for those that had read Spirit Immortal all the way, I'm sure that you'll find it all very interesting.

Let me divide it into sections first, just to keep me on track. Firstly, I'll be discussing the overall story of Spirit Immortal. How I conceived it from a theory that I had, the inspirations I took and ultimately… The ending that I'm sure only a percentage of you saw coming.

Secondly, I'll be talking about the challenges I had writing Spirit Immortal. My journey from a teenager in university that had no clue about how to write, to the man that I am now. The challenges that a new author in the web novel genre will come to face and hopefully, it'll teach any of you aspiring authors to not repeat the same mistakes that I'd made.

Thirdly, I'll be writing about the things that I would have done differently (ie, the things that I would want to do in future when writing future stories). Also, the lessons learnt that I wish to impart on my future self, as well as any budding authors reading this. 

Finally… I'm going to talk about my future works and how I'll be approaching writing web novels in the future.

It's going to be a long ride since I'll be trying to condense two years worth of experience into one document, so please bear with me.

Story of Spirit Immortal
As many of you know, I am a fan of Wuxia/Xianxia novels. They have played an integral part of my teenage life, giving me content to binge through while I rode through my schooling years. By now, you should be familiar with how I got into Wuxia/Xianxia, so I'll skip the long introduction and get to the reason why I imagined Spirit Immortal as a Wuxia.

I had a different take about Immortality than the other novels.

It was really as simple as that. In traditional novels, like Coiling Dragon or Doulou Dalu, the ultimate goal for the protagonist was to become an Immortal. Some even have realms above the Immortal Realm and they continually become stronger until they reach Godhood. It's a tale that we've all read before. However, my thoughts about Immortality are a little different.

I don't believe that Eternal Life exists. Or at the very least, not in the way Wuxia/Xianxia novels portray it. Let me explain.

What does Immortal mean? A literal definition means, not mortal. So, before we get to that, let's define what mortal means first. A mortal is any living thing that exists in reality, doing their best to continue their ultimate goal… To live. See, it doesn't matter if you are a human or a dog, a tree or a pig. We're all living creatures fighting against our final destination… death. As much as we don't like to admit it, all living things will die one day. That's what makes them 'living' in the first place. We have immune systems to protect against viruses. Possess various traits that will help us survive in our reality. Legs to run, arms to hunt, mouths to eat, sexual organs to reproduce…

All of these attributes are what makes us mortal. Which means that the desires that come from these attributes are also mortal desires. We hunger to live. We lust to reproduce and further on our genetic lineage. We anger to pump ourselves into action to defend our survival. Every single emotion that humans feel are linked to one main thing… To live. Even trees, which are effectively mortal, respond to changes and adapt to live. 

So what happens when you turn Immortal? All of our survival instincts, all of our desires that make us mortal… It all goes away. 

We will no longer want to do anything because we've already lost our most primal need to survive. Hunger becomes redundant since you won't die. Sexual desires disappear since there's no need for you to reproduce anymore. Feelings of anger, sadness, anxiety, fear… All of them would be stripped bare of any mortal. 

Once we become 'Immortal' we cease being 'Mortal'. Sounds stupid to say out loud, but in most cultivation novels, the protagonist becomes Immortal but still acts as a Mortal. Desiring to grow stronger even though he/she has obtained eternal life. Lusting over new girls in the new realm. Feeling emotions that no Immortal should have… All of these got me wondering…

How could I make a story about an Immortal with this logic that I have?

And then it hit me… The journey.

I have to make a journey tale, one where the protagonist starts from nothing and obtains everything that he'd ever thought possible. And it's not like the journey was perfect. Shin lost people on the way. Learned lessons from a myriad of characters. Took on the journey of life to become the 'perfect hero' that was slated to become the next 'Immortal.' And at the end of it all… He'll realise that Immortality was just a lie made up by humans to feel better about his mortality. 

All humans live. All humans die. In the end, what really matters is the journey that we all take while we're living. It doesn't matter if you become a successful billionaire or a struggling pauper. It doesn't matter if you get to live your dreams or be a recluse that loves to watch shows all day. As long as you're satisfied with your life's journey. That's all that matters.

At least, that was what I was trying to convey in Spirit Immortal.

Remember when I said that I wanted to finish this story because I wanted all of you to see my ending? The ending that I created was to show what my thoughts were about mortality. The life of a mortal, the journey that said mortal would take and finally… The end that no one can escape from. Spirit Immortal isn't a story about Immortality like other Wuxias. It's a story about… Mortality.

I'll be the first to admit. I lost control over the story of Spirit Immortal halfway through writing it. The original storyboard was for Shin to have a single drive (Ariel's resurrection) to carry him all the way to the ending. The ending that would reveal that the Immortal Realm doesn't exist and they were all cogs in a wheel to power the World Spirit. However, as I wrote more settings, introduced more characters, the storyline became more convoluted.

I'm an author that doesn't like to keep things rigid. As I keep adding new things into the story, it would morph whatever narrative I'm trying to write. Kanari's introduction as the secondary love interest was the major turning point for Spirit Immortal as well. I'd initially thought of Kanari as a friend character that was ultimately there only to fuel Shin's growth and to eventually meet Ariel. However, as I'd thought about it… Would Shin really behave that way when a beauty and good-hearted person like Kanari was chasing him? Was love truly eternal and could Shin only be single-minded about one person till the very end.

Then there were more realistic scenarios that I could think of which broke Shin's motivations. Even if Yggdrasil was real and Shin resurrected Ariel, he would still be a mature adult while Ariel would be a fifteen-year-old girl. Was that really realistic for Shin to ignore Kanari, a beautiful woman who had been chasing him when he was a hormonal youth, for a future with an uncertain Ariel.

And finally, I wanted to put in the family aspect into Shin's cultivation life. Family was an important aspect of all human beings. It's what fuels our evolution as a race and what drives us to live yet another day. So, Shin has to have a family before he ascends. So that he could make the final decision that he made at the end…

To not return to Earth and warn people that Immortality was a choice that Shin had to make. The world needs to have this cycle. Cultivators trying to ascend to Immortality, only to become energy for the new generation to rise up. That completes the evolution cycle of the Spirit Immortal world and Shin can only understand that if he has children of his own.

I've hidden many clues throughout the early books about the true nature of the Immortal Realm as well. Remember in Book 1 when I said the Spirit Immortals "burst into energy?" Also, in Book 2, the Mushinkei, the Frie Clan's house in Chilyoja Waypoint, means "Godless" in Japanese. And who could forget the easiest clue that I gave you all? Dexsot Teinost? Literally you can rearrange the words to form "It does not exist." Yes, yes. Very similar to the Harry Potter one with Voldermolt, but still! None of you got it! I even made it clear that I like scrambling words around with the Frie and Awter Clan all the way back in Book 1! 

Challenges
The challenges of being a writer, particularly an online one, is a completely foreign concept to me when I first started writing. I began to write because of my love of it and I'd thought that it would be easy. There are literally thousands of stories online and they each had their own unique flair. Some of them were terrible, some of them were masterpieces. And well… I got inspired by both types.

The masterpieces made me fall in love with stories. The shit stories made me realise… Anyone could write. Particularly online when there were no gatekeepers like traditional books. So even someone like me, who has bad English and horrendous storytelling skills can actually write something to the masses. 

Thinking back, I really was young and naive.

The most challenging part of being a novelist isn't the lack of time, which believe me, I was always swamped. It wasn't even the social toll that it takes. I had to give up many social events or at least plan ahead many weeks because I stuck to this daily schedule of releasing a chapter a day. 

The most challenging part of being a novelist is… Writer fatigue. 

There were so many days that I just couldn't type a single word. I didn't know how to pen my story. I didn't know how to write my settings. I didn't want to write anything because of how burnt out I was… I lost all my love for Spirit Immortal after consistently writing about it for two years. I couldn't bring myself to the keyboard, distracting myself with youtube videos and other entertainment means.

I would miss the days where my fingers would dance on the keyboard. I remember there was once I wrote a thousand words in an hour, and ten thousand words in a day. However, at my lowest point of my writer's fatigue. I couldn't even write a thousand words a day. 

That's why as the story neared its end, the quality kept dropping. I couldn't bring myself to write two thousand words a day, which was the limit I placed on myself and could only come down to a thousand words. It was heart-wrenching, knowing that I was responsible for the dip in quality in Spirit Immortal, the story that all of you readers spent your valuable time to read. 

I could spin a thousand excuses. Not enough time to write. Meeting up with my friends. Real-life obligations. Real-life work comes first. However, all in all, the main reason why I couldn't write… It's because I was tired. I was falling out of love with Spirit Immortal, even though it was the story that I dreamt into reality. I wanted to keep writing, but the author inside of me didn't exist in the shape that he used to be in.

BUT! I'm glad I faced all of those challenges, particularly with my first long-form novel. I now know what challenges lie ahead of me and I know what I must do from now on. To not just grow as an author, but as a person as well. 

Lessons learnt
Major lesson learnt… Spend more time storyboarding, and less time writing. A chapter a day is all well and good, but if the quality is shit, why bother? So I decided from here on out. I will no longer be releasing daily chapters. Maybe I'll be releasing three or four chapters a week, or even less. I can't tell you for sure right now. This is to prevent burning out once again.

Writing is not equal to authoring. I'd thought that as long as I crafted a good story, I could be a good writer. However, I now know that I'm shit at writing. My English is bad, and my execution is subpar at best. So I will be learning more from other novels to hopefully bolster up my bad writing skills. I will keep evolving, or at least, that's my hope. I will come back a better writer that could flawlessly execute the marvellous stories that I crafted in my head.

The Future of Linodo
Easy. I'm not quitting just because I'd finished Spirit Immortal. I will be continuing my second story, "When the Lilyflower Blooms..." while writing my new standalone book which I had been putting off for the longest time. I won't be returning to Wuxia/Xianxia books because I realise I'm not cut out for this genre. I can't write the 1000-2000 chapters that the undying Chinese Authors can. I can only go for so long before I burn out. 

So Lilyflower will be my comeback in an alternate genre, magical reality. I plan to write Lilyflower for about 100-200 chapters, 300 max. I don't want to keep my story never-ending and open-ended. I just want to make sure that the journey is fun for all of you. 

I won't be writing a Spirit Immortal sequel or any short stories from here on out. If I want to move on, I have to close this chapter called 'Spirit Immortal' from my life. If you guys want, you can privately message me about the theories of Spirit Immortal and I'll be sure to discuss anything that you want. However, for the most part, my creativity will now be focused on Lilyflower and the other stories that I have conceived thus far.

The End
So yeah… That's it for Spirit Immortal! I hope you've enjoyed these two years as much as I did. No matter what I say about this story, no matter how much time I've lost writing this and spending my heart's emotions on it… Spirit Immortal will always be a part of me. It would be a story that I would return to every once in a while to laugh at my young mind and enjoy thinking about forever after.

everyone, I am sorry but I have decided to drop this story, for good. I don't see a point in writing it anymore, I don't have the time either, I could spend the time I write this doing more useful things.
This story was meant to spread ideas and all but now I feel like it has turned into wish-fulfillment, I don't like where it is heading.
if anyone feels like it could have been better or achieved something, you can rewrite or continue the story with the image in your mind and post it on your profile I don't care about it. 
I will continue writing my original (A Journey to Eternity) and post chapters once in a while.
As for other reasons that I dropped it:
1. Writing fanfiction has no use for me personally, I originally wanted my ideas to be known and my writing skills to improve with writing this and since it clearly is not anymore then I will stop.
2. the very Few retarded Readers out there. there is a simple way to say this if you don't like a story then stop reading it, nobody cares about your opinion, don't share it. it will make the Author's mood gloomy no matter the person and result in him dropping the story, especially fanfiction because most Author's don't make money out of it and are most likely writing it out of passion and admiration for the original story or a character or etc. you ruin this feeling by flaming them, if you wanna share your opinion speak with logic and reason and help the Author become better by giving your opinion/advice in a respectful manner, I can go into a long discussion about this matter but lets stop it here.
3. the point of every story is to teach us how to be better, Romance at love and understanding the opposite sex, sci-fi at science and possible future of our technology, anime and things like that help open your mind and creativity sometimes they teach useful life lessons too, I can go on and on about this. my fanfic didn't have that feeling to it, any story that teaches nothing useful to its readers is just wasting the reader's time, it may make the reader feel good but in fact, is ruining their life by wasting their time for nothing. Having fun reading is not the most important part of it, the most important part is to learn and evolve. Wish-fulfillment stories have only two uses that I can think of, making the reader feel good about himself and heal some psychological problems, I don't wanna sin like that against people who support my story.
4. The problem with Webnovel's system is the fact that it forces you to have the feeling to write, I don't know how it does this but I reached a point where I couldn't stop writing, this caused alarm bells to ring in my mind and it made me rethink writing Fanfic. this could be only me though because when I don't write in Webnovel it causes me to feel this pressure to post a chapter.
that is pretty much it, I don't want to waste any more of your precious time so this is it.
Don't waste any more spirit stones on this Fanfic, it is dead for good.

I'm so sorry to everyone who were like oh this could be good but then got blindsided... 

I am currently in my second year of college. School, family, and writers block came all up on me and I never got a chance to get back to writing.

While I did have chapters written and saved up, I didn't like the idea nor where the story was going. And while those chapters seemed nice, I could not continue the story from them with dragging my word count with useless crap and wanting to gauge my eyes out.

first things first-
I may be updating at the end of January. I can assure you though that a new chapter will come by the end of February. :)

Next: I will probably change a few details of the prologue of Marc Antony. The story progression is slightly different than what it was originally supposed to be. The story summary will be slightly edited later to show this.

When I say slightly I mean what was originally supposed to be a cute and meaningful story with like deep life lessons had a train wreck and somehow became that and a romance-murder mystery-- I don't even know what happened. 

I might even have to change the premise cuz oh my goodness...

Like originally someone was gonna die but it wasn't gonna be a murder it was just supposed to make the story slightly depressing...

The writing style will still be the same, and the beginning is still slightly slow... I think? Anyway, yeah.

This is less an Analysis about myself and more about Authors as a whole. I only use myself as reference for the experiences a person can go through while attaining what some people call 'An Artistic Vision'.

But what is an artistic vision? I have gone through many stages as a writer, and the first step I took understanding why I love fiction was what made me less invested in a story filled with great themes but more entertained when events unfolding were simple.

My first work was a mess of a story that, when I look back to, didn't make any coherent sense except within the boundaries of my own mind. This is what taught me that writing with the thought of having another reading and giving feedback on my work was essentially a form of entertaining someone else with fiction.

So as a writer, was I supposed to be an entertainer catering to the masses? This opinion was cut down when I started to write a story that had every right to be able to catch people's eyes with how 'fresh and entertaining' it was, but suddenly found MYSELF not being invested by my story.

It was a strange paradox where what I was passionate about writing wasn't entertaining while the things that were more appealing and mainstream made what I thought to be a hobby more like self-imposed homework… and what everyone here can understand is that doing work is something a regular person would avoid if they were able to.

"I get no pay for becoming an 'entertainer', so why should I?" These were my thoughts as I continued to be on the line between writing for my audience and writing for my own amusement. Eventually, I came to a conclusion. 

"Why do I even write at all? Instead of writing something that definitely won't be a masterpiece, why don't I just read the well-known works of famous authors for my own amusement?" This thought became a unconscious thought, a worm burrowing into my mind without even realising it. I didn't even notice that I had already lost my qualification as an Author.

To write for oneself is to write a diary no one else would ever read. Although many unique ideas can come from writing this way, it ultimately lacks the understanding of readers that an Author shouldn't lack. 

To write for another is also not the right path to becoming one, as being too influenced by the opinions of others can make one fickle. A scene in your story you were proud of today could be something you want to delete tomorrow because it doesn't reach the perfection you are aiming for. If someone criticises some part of your work, then such thoughts will lead to an endless repetition of deleting and redoing pages.

The only way to overcome this paradoxical thought process is by having an artistic vision, and though I may be explaining it like it's an easy thing to achieve or something I fully grasp… In actuality, I don't…

The first artistic vision as a Author was to seek perfection in my storytelling, but the more I learnt about fiction, the more I learned of the purposeful imperfections in works that made them more memorable. To put it simply, even if an painter wants to add every colour of the world to a painting, it will only become jumbled mess if there isn't purpose behind what is being written into a story.

As an 'artist', I realised that I couldn't draw without inspiration to guide me. For I couldn't trust myself that the ideas I came up with by myself would even appeal to a wider audience. I experimented, and found that small touches made a story more worthwhile for my readers.

There was I time I wrote a story about reincartion and yet purposely left out key details about the character's past life like their name or age, even going so far as only including the parts the character was specifically affected by… The results were that a lot more people became invested in the main character's current life because there weren't two names distracting them for who the character currently was. 

They only knew the name of the character after reincarnation, and were therefore more closer to that character than any of the more 'perfected' characters I made before with literally their entire backstory spelled out for the reader.

It was then I remembered something that had truly become forgotten in my brain in the time I had been analysing tropes and what made story's appealing, I had forgotten that fiction wasn't 'art', but storytelling.

Subtext is created when the reader wants to know more about the characters themselves and looks for clues to figure out things that aren't explicitly 'told' to them. When a character is first introduced and they stutter in their interactions, it makes the reader unconsciously think that they aren't used to talking or are scared of something. When writing videos talk about 'show and not tell', it was THIS that they were referring to.

However, a story is essentially the Author 'telling' a reader a story through narration anyway, so how could I leave out information about a character's backstory in their introduction. The answer I found is that no real-life person is 'introduced' this way, most people I meet in real-life are those I can say I 'know' but only when talking about what I have found out about them at present.

It is through interacting that people know more about each other, but how can fictional characters inside my head form meaningful conversations when the entire point of them are to relay exposition that the narrator hasn't yet spoke of. It was hard to get past this problem as an artist, but as a storyteller, I found that the solution to this was changing who 'I' was interacting with.

I wasn't interacting with my characters, nor was I interacting with the fictional world I made. The true person I was interacting with was the individual I was narrating to… The person, who isn't me, that would read the text I was writing down to form a story.

Since I realised I was interacting with my readers through my narrations, I decided to switch things up and make them more lively. Instead of writing a summary of the events unfolding, I changed those events to fit the short attention span of new readers who wanted explosions every second, but as I followed along this path I realised that the 'narrations' I have became less genuine over time as story beats started feeling out of place and my own desire to write waned.

To become a storyteller isn't an easy thing, as I was still bound by the opinions of my audience. I became a comedian that tried to make my readers laugh, but found that my own laughter had died out in the process.

What was I supposed to do when becoming a storyteller was so much similar to becoming an entertainer? My answer was to go back to my roots and find out: What was I before an 'artist'?

I thought long and hard about it, then in a stroke of epiphany I had came to a conclusion: Was I not a kind of 'musician' that sought my own entertainment rather than the acceptance of others? Wasn't story's something I wrote purely for my own enjoyment?

And now, my artistic vision had matured. Rather than trying to 'entertain' an audience, I wanted the future me who had forgotten about my story to look back and enjoy it just as I have enjoyed the works of others.

Whether it be sci-fi, mystery, fantasy, or comedy… I want to look back on the story I told and see something that can make me feel emotions I had forgotten in the years that went by. If it's a Greek Tragedy, then I want to feel the helpless in knowing the flawed perspectives of the world that could caused the tragedy to happen.

Similar things could be said for mystery or fantasy. If I had a purpose when writing a story, then I don't want a glossary which either outright tells me about the world I built. Instead, I want to be entertained, moved, and more intrigued by the story anyone else!

After all, once I've finished writing the story, I am no longer the 'musician' or storyteller. I am the reader!

But even with this realisation, there was a chance I'd relapse if I didn't keep my previous lessons I learned in mind. If I was to chase 'perfection' again and think too hard about whether I'm talented or not, there wouldn't be any stories written to prove that I can overcome those who are only a tiny bit more talented than me but put in less effort.

If I sought too much for recognition and inspiration from outside sources, then I'd might as well send my work to a publisher rather than keeping my work a hobby.

And if I truly wanted to write a story that isn't going to be dropped, then I must plan a consistent story in mind that has a beginning and end. I could only choose to write for my future self rather than the readers that might or may not be interested in my work.

This is a story I worked on ages ago that has been refined and edited by adding foreshadowing to events while also simplifying the power system better than before. This story can be considered a prequel to An Adventure Beyond Greatness as it takes place years prior to the events of that story.

Short Synopsis:
After retiring from the battlefield, my life became empty and lifeless. The regrets of my past haunt me in my sleep. Then a change occurred, a King from another world summoned me to fight for his kingdom, but I died even before I could give him my answer. Now, after a fake God allowed me to reincarnate (albeit imperfectly) with my memories intact, into a world filled with magic and swords.

Long Synopsis:
This is about a flawed protagonist who only knew to rely on others and not socialise who gets a second chance to change himself in order to live the life he aimed for in his past life. The narrator isn’t exactly trustworthy since it is purely in his bias perspective while other perspectives given by others fill in the blanks that he either leaves out or twists to suit the situation.

The story itself can be considered a parody of Isekai’s classic tropes which are given a sense of reality as time goes by. As there exists no ‘Demon Lord’, there is also no black and white, only characters opinions and counter-opinions throughout the story.

Lunch came quickly and Jasper slid into his class. he saw Alex struggling over her book while Scarlet was swimming through her pile of homework.
"How was the class like with Danny?" he asked.
Alex nodded. "It was fun. Danny had many stories to share, but I wish he taught the actual lessons longer. I don't understand this question at all, he didn't teach us how to solve it."
Jasper took a seat beside the Wilde princess and decided to help her while tackling the problems by himself. Alex shared with Jasper and gave a rather detailed recount about what happened in class while Scarlet quickly finished up the last few questions.
Scarlet looked at the time. There were about forty more minutes before lunch. While Jasper helped Alex with her homework, Scarlet decided to do her homework in advance[1]. If Danny only gave them homework based on the book, she could easily try the questions by herself and study in advance so that she has more time at the later part to focus on her writing and research.
Time flew by and the children decided to take a break. There were a lot of things to do after lunch so they hurried unpacked the lunch box that Claire packed for them. Jasper sighed inwardly at his portion. He was a growing boy and eating the same amount that the girls ate simply wasn't enough for him. Still, he couldn't impose too much on the Wilde's. The boy decided that his next stop after lunch would be the school canteen. He might make a deal with the lunch lady to get leftover food for free so that he could save some money.
Scarlet decided that the best place for her to be was in the classroom where she wouldn't be disturbed. The only downside she could think of was that there was no air conditioning even if she had internet access. According to Claire, the laptop had been configured to be automatically connected to the school's VIP connection.
As her leg was still in a cast, it was inconvenient for Scarlet to be moving around. Jasper decided to help Scarlet connect her laptop to the main powerpoint while Scarlet set it up.
It was when the laptop stalled after trying to open her document that the aspiring businessman witnessed something rare. Alex was startled by the loud noise but simply blinked when she realised where it was coming from. The blogger was usually the most emotionally stable child in the Wilde house. They never expected the blogger to completely lose it over a slow laptop and a crashed application.
Scarlet smacked the laptop again and cursed colourfully in her mother tongue. Jasper and Alex didn't know what she was saying but they had a rather good guess what Scarlet was referring to. The girl glared at the innocent machine and Jasper felt pity for it when Scarlet gave it another smack. The computer fan was whirring loudly and Jasper offered to take over. Scarlet pushed her laptop over to Jasper quickly, not wanting to deal with the offending piece of equipment for any longer.
Jasper received the laptop and couldn't help but wonder why people would resort to caveman logic when things didn't work[2]. The computer hung? Smack it a few times to see if it helps. The lift stopped? Jam the buttons a few more time to see if it starts again. The door wouldn't open? How about kicking it twice? Maybe something magical would happen after.
After restarting the laptop, Jasper managed to get her file to work again, much to Scarlet's delight. Alex made sure to make her sister comfortable before she packed her bag. The other two students excused themselves and Scarlet waved goodbye. She wasn't worried. They promised to be back around three to go back together. The curfew was six in the evening so that gave them plenty of time. If it weren't for Scarlet's lessons with Ms Connor at four, they would have stayed until about five before heading home.
Once they were gone, the blogger pulled out her manuscript file and drafted plots. She was seeing Ms Connor this afternoon for a discussion and an informal interview. While Scarlet liked Debbie, she wasn't sure if she trusted the lady with her work. In fact, Scarlet felt very unconfident about what she'd written. It wasn't like an essay. It was actually a lot harder when the story became not just an essay, but a whole book.
Scalet's book wasn't long, but she learnt several things writing her very first book. Firstly, naming anything was hard! It didn't matter if it was the name of the character or the name of a place, they were equally tough to decide. Thankfully, Scarlet knew quite a good number of people, so that helped her.
Secondly, Scarlet often found herself going back to previous chapters to read what she wrote because she simply forgot all about it. After the fifth time doing it, the blogger decided that it was easier to just keep a separate sheet about all the details he might ever need when moving forward in future chapters.
Thirdly, Scarlet was consulting the dictionary more frequently than she liked. It wasn't that she didn't know the spelling, The girl just wasn't sure if it was the right word to use in such a context. Also, there was something called a thesaurus - no that isn't a dinosaur. Scarlet often consulted it to find word replacements that she didn't know existed. However, that led her to the fourth problem.
She simply never had enough time.
When trying to tell her story, Scarlet found herself taking more than giving in the knowledge exchange. She found out that birds flew because they had less dense bones and that also meant their bones were very fragile. Scarlet tried to find out more about making it possible to walk on a rainbow and somehow she ended up the legend of the rainbow with the pot of imaginary gold. More interestingly, the rainbow was actually a circle and not a semi-circle like what most picture books illustrated.
Being a writer was fun but Scarlet didn't know if she was good enough to be one. Her story was more like a word vomit from ideas all over the place. Still, she wondered if Debbie was a fan of talking cats.
"No, I must not digress," Scarlet told herself and shook her head to clear the distracting thoughts. she brought the heavy laptop to school for a sole purpose - to edit her story before her session with Debbie.
The document loaded and Scarlet found herself staring at a good sixteen thousand words.
Taking a deep breath, Scarlet nodded. "We can do this," she told herself. "Let's start with chapter one..."

Human Observation Diary has always kept to a very standard format but one day, a reader pointed out that the blog has recently been differing from its usual format. Intrigued by the trigger, Scarlet investigates her latest human observation - an online NEET by the name of Jedd77.

From further interactions, Scarlet finds herself helplessly drawn to him. As their friendship develops into something more, Scarlet has to make a choice.

To give up her secrecy and allow Jedd77 to be a part of her life? Or continue the game of cat and mouse even after the face reveal.
