Sure there have been some earlier VR games, but the demands of the platform make it so that most games simply can't do much without at least a decade worth of work and effort, so most of those games are simple puzzle or level based games. There's been nothing more beyond that in a full 12 years, until now.

That's also why New Wolrd Online is so anxiously awaited by gamers across the globe; it's the very first of its kind. The gate to a brand 'New Wolrd' for gamers. And no one can attest to that fact better than Oliver Novaeritas. 

After all, while Oliver may not have made the game, his uncle did. In fact, Oliver's uncle is the Head Game Designer and Programmer. 

What does this mean for Oliver? It means Oliver had the honor of being one of only 400 beta testers and got many of his ideas and suggestions implemented into the game itself, not to mention basically knows everything about the game's functions, despite being clueless as to the actual plot.

Today was the very first day the game would be open to players. It was a day destined to go down in the history books of the gaming universe.

Oliver lifted his helmet over his head, and slowly brought it down. It slid onto his head and comfortably launched on.

Taking a deep breath to calm down his raw excitement, Oliver spoke.

And then everything went black.

Total darkness. But Oliver didn't panic. He was familiar with this darkness surrounding his consciousness. He knew it would fade away shortly.

Once again Oliver was swallowed by the darkness, and once again it was pushed back by the light.

But this time, instead of a white room, the world was filled with color, and as the color it took shape. Mountains, Cliffs, Castles, Oceans, Forests; all these and more flashed before stopping at the sight of a massive white Eutopia surrounded by lush forest and cliffs. Then, as if seared into his eyes, the silhouette of a gray shield with a blue sword behind it and a purple book in front, surrounded by a circular pattern that was a blue magic circle on the left half, and an orange gear on the right. Once the image was completed, one by one a series of letters were engraved into the image. When that was finished one could read the words 'NEW WORLD ONLINE' in large, bold, black letters, a powerful contrast to the beautiful scenery and colorful insignia radiating behind it.

It was an impressive sight, as intended. Oliver felt a hint of pride over the opening sequence since while he didn't actually make it, he had a fair amount of influence over how it came out, although not as much as the actual designers of course.

After the opening sequence, it began to play a small movie explaining the history of the wolrd. Oliver didn't know anything about the storyline, therefore this was new information to him, therefore he didn't skip it.

These clans rule the many realms that make up our world, but this is not their tale (The image begins to fade out) ...

Pragmanis. That is the name of the world in which we live, and which in our tale takes place (The image starts to fade in various scenery of castles and forests and mountains.) ...

Of all the realms made before the collapse, ours is the largest, but that is the very reason it fell (The image fades back to the gray area with island icons bordered by a black and white mass, and then a red circle is drawn around the largest island in the center.)  ...

Thousands of kingdoms and empires once dotted this sheltered land, protected by the Draconic Mountains that surround us on all sides. A guardian that would later become our captor (The image changes to display a map, showcasing various locations, all encased within a mountain range completely circling around them)  ...

The land was invaded by beasts, demons, nightmares from other realms (Various imagery of monsters appears over the map slightly faded) ...

One, then another, then yet another, then two, then two more, then three. Again and again, our kingdoms fell, our heroes failed, our saints, dead (The monster imagery disappears as images of men and women of various races, some with animal life features or pointed ears, in armor or robes appear, and then switched to bloody scenes of slaughter as people are torn apart by beasts and the map burns in the background) ...

Finally, the great leader Elmegard gathered the remnants of civilization within the 13 citadels, and bit by it, we learned. We learned how to fight, how to survive, how to live, how to win (The image of a single man standing on top of a boulder raisings a sword into the sky as the silhouettes of people appear around him, then the image transforms to show a massive white castle in the middle of a vast plain with streams of people flooding in, before transforming once more to the earlier scene of carnage, but this time men and women in armor with weapons run toward the monsters and battle, before the beasts run away bloodied.) ...

With the 13 citadels as our core, we built the Capital of Orto and the 12 great cities. We pushed back the dangers of the outside world and now, we have even started to slowly reclaim our lost land (The image reverts to the massive white-walled castle as building start to appear around it and eventually more walls are built, finally a flag appears in the background, colored bright red with a golden phoenix spreading it's in the center, surrounded by 12 swords pointed outwards.) ...

Oliver smiled. The story was somewhat generic but had its own sense of originality, and it left a lot of room for future development, which is a good thing as it means the story isn't sealed tight to only one end. It seemed interesting.

Well, next up would be the character development process. The beta testers weren't allowed to actually mess with the character development process due to the innovative way in which it works, of course, Oliver knows all about it. As with any game, an important problem deciding on your playstyle, and for 'New Wolrd Online', the Character Development process has a large impact on future gameplay, at least during the beginning.

It just so happened that Oliver knew a few tricks in that regard.

The world's first VRMMORPG has been released. New Wolrd Online has the Player enter the wolrd of Aeterna. With an advanced, immersive, and immensely interactive class and skill system which changes and updates according to one's own playstyle, an ever-expanding world map, and a ridiculously massive variety of creatures, monsters, beasts, and species of all kinds, there are practically endless possibilities.

When the official release finally comes around, Oliver's the very first to log in and the among last to log out. 18 years old and the nephew of the Head Game Designer and Programmer, Oliver's one of only 400 beta testers. No one is better or more knowledgeable about the game among the player base than he is, even if he doesn't freely admit it.

It is a form of entertainment that lets you explore different cultures and places by just playing it. Also, I personally prefer playing otome games because you are the protagonist of the story. It means that you also have the ability to see and control to your own life. By just picking the best answers given to you by the system, the flow of the story will certainly bring you to a satisfying ending.
 
A lot of otome games these days attract the players by its beautiful CGs, background music that add a huge impact to the story, and the voice actors and actresses who give more life to the characters of the story. The gameplay of each game should be smooth or else, the quality of the game will be destroyed. 
 
And let us not forget about the capture targets of these games. These capture targets are usually almost perfect. They are visually attractive, always the best when it comes to their own work, and has an aura that attracts the people around them. But you know what really attracts me the most? 
 
It is their backstory!
 
Usually, the most successful capture target in the game has the most heartbreaking backstory. Like someone they trusted the most betrayed them that's why they don't want to trust in others again, or their past lover treated them like some dispensable garbage so they don't believe in love again, or their family abused or ignored them that is why they are always cold and aloof. 
 
By just knowing their backstories, as a loyal otome player, you will have the urge to protect them and fix their broken hearts again. 
But let us not forget the critical element of a good otome game. And this is the plot of the story. Otome games are obviously a game with a love story. But a love story itself is not enough to make an otome game a huge success. 
 
Aside from romance, an otome game should also have a good character development. Just like in real life, appearance is not enough to make someone fall in love with them. They should also have a good personality and attitude. 
 
The target of these games is mostly girls. And of course, I am not an exemption from it. 
 
Yesterday, I tried the latest otome game released in the online market last month. The title of this game is Midnight Lovers Rendevouz. I bought this otome game because of its high ratings and good reviews from the other players. Because I am the type of person who always believed in other's opinions, I bought this game even though it is a bit expensive.
 
Midnight Lovers Rendevouz or MiLoRe for short, is a sexy love otome game with four attractive capture targets. But in reality, there are really five capture targets. The hidden capture target will be revealed once you get a fifty percent of love points from each of the four capture targets.
 
The goal of this game is to raise the love points of your chosen capture target and achieve their happy endings. This will be achieved by giving them the right choices of answers and using some items that raise their favorability points.
The story starts when the Main Character or MC will resign from her job as a designer in a huge company. She will leave the company along with its unreasonable boss who wants to sell her designs and use someone's name as the creator of it. And the reason the boss gave to her? He said that as a senior employee, she should help their newcomer to be successful too in the fashion world.
 
If I were the MC, I will also do the same. Who the hell will approve of that reason? Just because you are a senior employee, you should give your works to your juniors to make them successful too? That's bullshit.
 
Anyways, after the MC left her company, she will meet the four capture targets one by one. Three of the capture targets will be her workmates while the other one will be her new neighbor. It's up to the player if they will focus on only one capture target or the player will still communicate and try to raise the other capture target's love points.
 
You only need to choose your favorite capture target, raise his love points and get a happy ending. Seems simple, right? This is also what I thought about this game.

These reviews and ratings are all lies! They are all a freaking scam! This is not the typical otome game I've played before!
 
Some of the choices given by the system are not giving the player any favorability points towards their chosen character. Instead, if you choose the wrong answer, either the love points will reduce by ten points and you'll possibly get a bad ending. And what's more? I need to pay a hundred dollars if I want to unlock the hidden chapters of the game!
 
I've already paid a huge sum of money to buy this game and I still have to pay another hundred dollars just to unlock the hidden chapters? That's freakingly ridiculous! 
 
Though there is still a way to unlock the hidden chapters. The player just needs to finish the hidden capture target's route and earn a hundred percent of love points from him. But how am I supposed to do it if I can't even raise my favorability points with the four capture targets in this game to know his identity? 
 
Ever since I bought this game, I never get a chance to finish anyone's route. It is because I keep on choosing the wrong answers which leads me to a bad ending. But just like an obsessed woman, I keep on trying to get at least half of the characters' love points so I will know who is the hidden capture target while cursing the game producers of MiDoRe in my heart.
 
After getting another bad ending, I let out a tired sigh and throw my phone on the bed. MiDoRe is actually stressing me out! Otome games should be a game full of fun and cheesy storylines. It should not be like this! Massaging my temples with my fingers, I reach for my phone and find the reset button from the menu bar.
 
One more time! 
 
I will play this otome game one more time and try to reveal the hidden character's identity. If I ever fail again this time, I will surely give this game a zero rating and a lot of bad comments.
 
But the moment I click the reset button, I suddenly feel a little dizzy and drop my phone on the floor. A buzzing sound is ringing in my ears and it gets louder every second. I instinctively cover my ears with my hands and close my eyes, hoping that the sound will disappear. 
 
After a few minutes, the disturbing sound stops. I removed my hands covering my ears and slowly open my eyes. But...
"Ms. Claudine Dowilton."
 
"Huh?"
"Are you okay?"
 
Mother of blue pearl! Why...
 
"Ms. Dowilton, did you hear what I said just now?"
 
How did I become the protagonist of an otome game? 

The moment I opened my eyes, I surprisingly discovered that I reincarnated as the protagonist of an otome game entitled Midnight Lovers Rendezvous or MiLoRe for short.
 
For a loyal otome player like me, it is actually a good thing. If not for its dangerous bad endings everywhere! 
 
Fortunately, a system will help me to survive in this world. The only choices I can get is to either to raise the love points with one of the capture targets and maintain it until I reach a happy ending or to avoid all of them. 
 
My choice? I will avoid them all! It is a better choice instead of risking my life trying to raise their points. 
 
But why do their favorability points keep on raising even though I am trying my best to avoid them? It doesn't even happen while I'm playing this game before!

Doudou's online wife came all the way to Jiangnan University Town to find me. What should I do? Waiting online for a reply, it's urgent.
'Chu Chu' blinked her eyes and looked at Song Shuhang.
She was already a highschool graduate this semester, and was going to be taking her college entrance exam next semester. Her goal was naturally to enter Jiangnan University Town.
Today, she deliberately asked for a leave and went to Jiangnan University Town to see Doudou. She wanted to see if he was really there.
She was very lucky, and was able to find him very quickly.
Doudou was even more handsome than what she saw online, and he was even more handsome than that Senior Brother Gao Sheng in the movie. "Mm-hm." Chu Chu nodded. "But I didn't run out secretly. I told my dad that I was going to the Jiangnan area to see some friends, and my dad agreed."
Song Shuhang: "..." Wasn't this little girl's father's a bit too easygoing? Was she even his child?
Now comes the troublesome part: how do I explain the relationship between myself and Doudou to this little girl?
In theory, it would be better to simply tell her the truth. Otherwise, a lie would end up having to be covered up with more lies, and it'd only become more and more troublesome.
But the problem was that Doudou was a dog, so how was he supposed to introduce Doudou to this girl?
If he discovered that the one who had been playing games with her was a dog, a very cute pekingese, the girl would go crazy.
"Well, take a seat first." Song Shuhang shifted aside to let Chu Chu sit down.
"Mm-hm." Chu Chu smiled sweetly, and sat next to Song Shuhang; her hands were clasped together, while her face was flushed red.
Gao Moumou approached Song Shuhang and whispered in his ear, "Hey, Shuhang... who is this girl? Don't you have a relationship with Teacher Su?" 
Song Shuhang, wasn't this having a foot in two boats?
"It's a long story, it's not my fault. I'll explain it to you later." Song Shuhang rubbed his temples anxiously.
Chu Chu saw Song Shuhang's distressed look, and asked, "Doudou, did you not want me to come over?" Suddenly, she remembered the plots of many internet melodramatic romances.
"No, that's not what I'm worried about." Song Shuhang sighed.
Wait…
Why the hell I'm worrying in the first place?!
I'm not Doudou, and it wasn't me who flirted online.
Isn't it supposed to be Doudou who faces the headache that is having to explain the situation to Chu Chu and be the one to deal with her?
"It's actually a long story, Chu Chu. Just wait a bit, I'll make a call," Song Shuhang said.
"Oh." Chu Chu nodded cutely.
Song Shuhang brought out his phone, entered his contacts, then found Doudou's number, and dialed it.
I heard that Doudou is being held captive by True Monarch Yellow Mountain. I hope that the call can go through.
Fortunately... Doudou was able to answer the call.
"Woof, devil, why are you calling me?" Doudou's voice came from his phone.
Song Shuhang: "..."
F*ck, what does he mean by calling me 'devil'?
Doudou said, "Hello? Hello? Why aren't you saying anything? Was my number accidentally dialed while he put his phone in his pocket?" 
Song Shuhang replied, "No, I didn't misdial. I just couldn't stand your strange way of addressing me all of a sudden."
Doudou proudly said, "I'm actually practicing. To resist that stupid Yellow Mountain's attempts to get me married, I'm practicing how to make the worst first impression when I meet someone." 
Song Shuhang responded, "I feel like you don't need to practice at all. As long as your instincts are still there, you'll be able to give people the worst first impression."
"Really? Am I that awesome? Hahahaha, that's embarrassing." Doudou laughed.
Song Shuhang's teeth ached as he said, "I'm not complimenting you."
"Bah, sweetie, you are making me feel shy," Doudou said.
Song Shuhang was creeped out, and said, "Don't say things like that, and we're still friends."
"Woof, why are you calling me?" Doudou said.
"Chu Chu is here," Song Shuhang said.
"What?" Doudou froze.
"Chu Chu came to Jiangnan University Town to find me, and is sitting next to me right now," Song Shuhang repeated. "Now, can you talk to her yourself?"
Doudou: "..."
Song Shuhang said, "I can only help you this much. Next, you'll have to talk to Chu Chu yourself and explain things to her." 
Then, he handed the phone to Chu Chu who wore a puzzled look.
"Here, talk to Doudou." Song Shuhang said.
Chu Chu looked shy. "Talk to Doudou? Who are you then?"
"I'm not Doudou." Song Shuhang smiled gently.
Chu Chu opened her mouth wide. Her cute little face was full of shock, and her expression was unbelievable.
"In fact, Doudou... looks like me. So, people often mistake him for me." Song Shuhang laughed.
Anyway, that stupid dog Doudou hadn't transformed yet. Once he reached the Fifth Stage, he would just have to pay attention to his human form and make it slightly similar to him.
"Is that so?" Chu Chu's face was flushed with shame. She then took Song Shuhang's mobile phone, and timidly called out, "Doudou?"
"Woof, it's me, wife." The voice she was familiar with came from the phone.
This voice, this tone... yes, this was the Doudou she knew.
But then, what was the deal with this Song Shuhang from Jiangnan University Town?
"Wife, find a quiet place. I'll talk to you alone. Stay away from Song Shuhang, don't let him hear what I'm going to tell you." Doudou's voice echoed.

"Oh." Chu Chu nodded. She stood up, nodded apologetically to Song Shuhang, and went out of the classroom.
After seeing the girl leave, Song Shuhang was relieved.
"Hey, Shuhang... What did that girl want?" Tubo and the others asked curiously.
"She's a friend of mine, a girl I met in an online game." Song Shuhang sighed.
"What? The girls in online games are of such high quality?" Tubo's eyes widened. "Which game was it?"
"I don't know, I've never played that game." Song Shuhang shrugged.
"Then, why did she run all the way to Jiangnan University Town just to find you?" Gao Moumou stared at him. "There's definitely adultery somewhere."
"F*ck off," Song Shuhang said. "In fact, I'm also troubled by this. My friend is rather wacky, so when that girl asked him what he looked like, he sent my picture to the girl."
Gao Moumou: "..."
Tubo: "..."
Yangde: "..."
Classmate Xiong Donghua, who was right beside him, exclaimed, "F*ck, please give me a dozen of such friends!"

One day, Song Shuhang was suddenly added to a chat group with many seniors that suffered from chuuni disease. They would talk all day about pill refining, exploring ancient ruins, or share their experience on techniques.
However, after lurking inside the group for a while, he discovered that not all was what it seemed... 

I walk through my dreams like I've lived a whole life there, most times they are about a recent book I read. That is one of the things I do a lot and I'm not just saying that I really do read almost all day long. If I'm not reading I am probably watching some movie or anime series, yes you can probably guess I haven't done much with my life. let's start where it all began.

Back in middle school I loved to read books so much so that when I was grounded they took away my books instead of saying I couldn't go out with friends or no tv/games. yes I was a pretty strange kid compared to some being a 12 year old in America at the time(2012 No less). when I was grounded my next best thing was video games because they told stories as well at the time my video game collection was pretty sparce using an old dell business computer that ran windows xp (let's just say I got really good at minesweeper). even before I found books video games were still present. I still remember my mom gifting me an original Xbox she won in a contest it came with one game and it was a racing game not a lot of story just races.

After a while of getting in trouble I got grounded while i was grounded so I lost games as well suffice to say my box of legos was not very entertaining for a 12 year old mainly because I didn't like to make things up myself it felt so tedious that I had to work so hard to make up shapes and other things people already. i also didn't have many friends so instead I slept, and I slept hard. I don't remember much of my dreams then but I do remember one that was about magic and there was a really dark forest that went on forever in a sea of trees, other than that though I don't remember.
A couple of months later I was officially free and it felt like freedom I got to read again, it was so much fun, I would imagine it being like a drowning mans next breath of air. I didn't goto sleep that night instead I stayed up reading, when morning came I was tired but the book just got to THAT PART that is just so interesting and catching you can't stop, i read through that day as well. after dinner I got so tired I slept couldn't keep reading.
the next morning felt so sluggish like the morning after you get drunk but not enough for a hangover. well after a week of being late for school because I was busy reading parents up an sold all my books. ALL of them like really I was almost done reading them! I never read another book until after basic training 4 or 5 years later.
things changed after I lost my collection I switched to video games and because they didn't want me up all night reading whenever Christmas came around it was games instead of books. birthday? video game. my dad was an avid gamer always tried to keep his pc updated and sent old games I could run on my pc to me. me and my dad were always great at games but I could never compete with him, and it totally didn't have to do with me playing the games for the stories instead of for the high scores(of you can't tell this sentence is sarcasm read this again).

flash forward to the start of high school I was big on video games by then my computer had upgraded to a brand new one from my birthday me and my dad built it together good memories there. I remember when i tried to play morrowwind on it. that was when I realised I didn't like challenging games i liked to play and get the story, maybe different endings (those were my favorite).

at the start of high school I didn't really have a lot of friends because I didn't have many in middle school. my dad recommended me to join the ROTC there, he said he did and he had fun when he was in high school. So I did and the first year was fun and it started with ROTC especially when I started competing. I had so much fun I spent 14 hours of day at school I woke up at 5 to get to practice went to school than got home around 7 after the other practice you can imagine I didn't have a lot of time for video games especially because all that practice was physally demanding. 

1 year later 2 year in high school this I would consider the real start of high school for you actually have to do something to pass your classes I met a girl in my math class (insert joke about about girls causing problems in highschool here [ps: this is the joke I'm not sexist]). We started talking about a lot of things our school football team things like that, than we got to books she loved to read book I got to see her library once well less of a library and more of a whole wall of books and all books I wanted to read. her name was Alex I had the biggest crush on her at one point than found out she was lesbian so we kinda grew apart shallow I know but it's high school things like this happen. anyways after seeing those books some of them I used to read myself I started to want to read again, but I had no books i was still forbidden to read so I put my frustration put on video games during this time I was playing a lot of modern warfare 2 I loved the story and the way it flowed but it was really the first game I really played on steam I have logged over 500 hours  on that game alone I got every achievement for single player even the ones for veteran difficulties and also got most for the multiplayer which at this point I had everything unlocked and was max level I loved the multi player.

at this point I was starting to show up late sometimes to practice because I wasn't sleeping early enough. I went one more year like that and over summer I played so many video  games I swear I dreamt about sheaperd in mw2 around this time skyrim came out and I played the heck out of it  (I didn't get as many hours of playtime because 3rd year of high school is the hardest around 200hours). 3rd year rolls around I've dropped out of all practices because it was all boring again nothing new same old stuff. I was still busy keeping my grades up especially that foreign language credit that is needed to graduate.

4th year felt like being a freshman again except youre the one who makes fun of the freshmen.

nothing important happened then so I graduated and I wanted adventure something new so I went and joined the US Airforce. If I knew what I knew about it than I would have waited unroll now to join. long story short my addiction to video games got the better of me some nights during training and I ended up sleeping in, combined with my selective forgetfulness  (I kid you not I forgot my boots one time). luckily I wasn't in that long so I got an entry level discharge (look it up if you don't know) after I got back I found books to read online and read I did but because I didn't have school and at the time no work to deal with

this is about the time where I realised something special about my dreams.

at one point in high school I played a game where you create your own games and other people play them but this wasn't like legos using only blocks this was a program and once they started to abandon the Lego building style I started to learn it you could import meshes from other programs like blender so I started learning how to use it during this time I started dreaming up wire frames i wanted to tell a story using this game a story without words. I spent a long time on this and I can say to this day that I am self taught at how to use blender and that I ended up really famous on that game for my builds

that was the first clue because I was spending so long learning how to use blender I started dreaming up wire frames or if I was having a really hard time with a specific thing I would dream how it looked and be able to re create it the next day.

now after my attempt at trying to get a stable job i went back to reading. It started out with books i had already read then spread and spread till I found whole websites filled with books to read some exciting some not and they all had one HUGE thing in common they were all fiction and that's what I like. the wilder the better.

one day I met a girl and we planned on getting married and we had a kid a beautiful daughter we named Angela love her so much. I don't know what happened after we came out of the hospital after she gave birth she said she was through with me and left. that hurt a lot so I went back to reading and read I did the stories around this time were mainly reincarnation stories in another world I swear I had a dream at one point i was reincarnated into alegasea  (if you don't know you haven't lived).

this is where I realised my dreams make for the best stories and I tried to write a story about a specific dream once or twice. It never turned out well. Now I'm in college for networking taking a Cisco class (super boring) so my dreams are extra vivid further making me want to write those stories out but they never seem to tell the story how I want then to but right now this one is working does this count as 4th wall break? (lol couldn't resist the humor there [and don't say it was bad because you thought it was funny at some point deep deeeep down you just don't know it])

a story about a man and his dreams that might mean he is insane or might just love books too much. don't listen to the voices in your head about this one because the pink platypusbear that sleeps like a bat doesn't like your drugs.

Chen Xiaolian and the middle-aged man were seated facing one another.

A waiter came with a plate of peanuts and two dishes. Next, he brought over a few bottles of beer and two beer glasses.

Chen Xiaolian poured himself a glass of beer, then looked at the middle-aged man. The middle-aged man smiled before turning his glass upside down.

“This host body of mine cannot drink beer. His body is allergic to alcohol.”

Chen Xiaolian cast a glance at him, trying hard to digest the information within that sentence.

“Host body?” Chen Xiaolian pointed at the middle-aged man. “In other words, the current you is not this person sitting before me?”

“No, this is simply a temporary host body that I am borrowing,” The middle-aged man smiled lightly.

“Just like those people I met today? The owner of the pub, the vegetable carrying aunt by the road? And also the taxi driver?”

“Exactly, that is correct.”

Chen Xiaolian quietly drank his glass of beer; he then poured himself another glass. Sighing, he asked. “You… just what kind of person are you?”

“This question is not quite accurate. You should not be using the word ‘person’.”

“… Hehe,” Chen Xiaolian laughed bitterly. “That is true. To be capable of such feats, you cannot indeed be classified as human. Very well, I will rectify my question: What exactly are you?”

“The one who manages, the one who calculates, the one who maintains order, the one who arranges everything so that it operates according to the norm… From your human perspective, I am both omnipresent and omnipotent. Perhaps… all these aspects are consistent with the one you humans call… God? The Lord? Ruler of All?”

Chen Xiaolian gulped down another glass of beer. “I do not like this kind of analogy… surely you know, I am a writer.”

“Very well… I won’t use this analogy,” The middle-aged man smiled. He then looked at Chen Xiaolian in the eye. “You may think of me as… the system.”

Chen Xiaolian’s hand that was pouring beer jerked.

“System… what is it?”

He stared at the middle-aged man’s eyes.

The middle-aged man laughed. “Why does everyone keep asking this question whenever we get into a discussion?”

Chen Xiaolian remained silent and simply looked at the other person, waiting for an answer.

“You have a profession, a writer,” The middle-aged man smiled. “You must have written a story like this before, of one person or a group of people who, due to a peculiar type of power, ended up transmigrating into another world. In this other world, these transmigrants then find themselves going through adventures one after another…”

“Why are you talking about this?”

“This… is the system.”

Chen Xiaolian’s face turned taut; then he drained down another glass of beer.

This time though, the glass of beer was drunk very, very slowly, as though he was trying to digest something.

“I still cannot quite understand. Could you talk more about it in detail?” Chen Xiaolian held onto the glass, his eyes covered by it.

“You do like to play online games often,” The middle-aged man let out a light smile.

This sentence of his was not a question, but a declaration. It was as though he was simply uttering out a fact – a fact that he clearly understood.

“En,” Chen Xiaolian nodded his head.

“Don’t you feel that… the format of these online games and the transmigration stories are very similar? Each player in an online game is just like a transmigrant in a novel. They entered another world, then in that other world, they undergo many perils…”

“Wait, what you mean to say… our current world… is facing a transmigration from others? Newton, Damon, Sara, Du Ya, Pattern Man… Wind Slasher Guild… they are all people who transmigrated over to this world? They are not originally of this world?” Chen Xiaolian immediately spoke out the details that he considered most important.

“Exactly,” The middle-aged man slowly replied. “They do indeed belong to another world.”

“…” Chen Xiaolian suddenly felt his mind becoming confused. “But… why… why would I be able to see them in the plane? Right! That is right! Host bodies! The key point is host bodies! What is a host body?”

“If we are to assume that this world is an online game, then a host body… would be the equivalent of a login account,” The middle-aged man smiled.

“… Login… account?”

Chen Xiaolian deeply exhaled, his voice trembling.

“You mean to say… we… us living humans… are login accounts? But… on what basis could they use us as host bodies? To take us as login accounts? How can they simply… take over? That is right, it is just like taking over our bodies!”

The middle-aged man continued smiling. “Let us discuss about another issue for now.”

“What?”

The middle-aged man smiled. “In your opinion, what is the origin of the world that we are currently in? How did it come about?”

“It was the Big Bang… then the solar system… Earth…” Chen Xiaolian started talking about what he knew as common. However, after saying a few sentences, he suddenly shut his mouth. He looked at the middle-aged man with anxiety.

“Why aren’t you continuing?”

“I think… perhaps you have a better answer.”

The middle-aged man slowly spoke. “In this world, there is a story named ‘Journey To The West’. You know of it, right?”

“Yes.”

“In ‘Journey To The West’, it is written that this world is created when Pangu separated Heaven and Earth.”[1]

Chen Xiaolian became dumbfounded. “No… That is just the background for the story… Or perhaps it could be said that, the author who wrote the story made that setting as the background. All those things about Pangu separating Heaven and Earth, they were but myths, there are no science behind them.”

“What is science?” The middle-aged man shook his head. “Then, your so-called Big Bang, birth of the solar system, birth of the Earth, origin of life, human evolution… all of them, could they not be all a part of a ‘background setting’?”

Chen Xiaolian’s hand that was holding onto a glass of beer began trembling.

He slowly drank the glass of beer.

Putting it down, he took a breath. “What you are trying to say is… we… this world of ours, is one that was ‘artificially created’? A virtual world?”

“Why would you think that if it is an ‘artificial creation’, then it must be virtual?”

The middle-aged man grinned as he spoke. “In human reproduction, there will be ten months of conception, then the child will be born… essentially speaking, is this not the ‘creation of life’?”

He stared at Chen Xiaolian. “Say you start work on a piece of land and planted many plants and flowers to create a garden… then this garden is one you created. In that case, would you say that this garden is virtual? Those plants and flowers are also living things.”

“If we are to adopt a macroscopic view of this world, then the thousands of years of civilization within history, the Big Bang, the origin of life, the Jurassic period of dinosaurs, the era of primitive man, the Greek civilization, the Roman civilization, the Eastern civilization… and the current modern era… all of these are ‘background settings’. Now let us we adopt a microscopic perspective and look at each and every person, those within this current era and those within history. I am talking about every aspect of their lives, their birth, their experiences, their love and hatred, their career, their family, their whole life… these are also a person’s ‘background setting’.”

Chen Xiaolian commented. “It is just like… each character in a movie? Or the NPC within a game?”

“Something like that.”

“However, in a movie… how many characters could there be? One main character, then how many supporting characters could there be? Could it be that everyone within this whole wide world are also…”

“Firstly, this is a world. There is no distinction between a lead character or a supporting character. Everyone here, you, others, all of you form a part of this world. Each of you are your own character, your own ‘individual’. Secondly… you are right. Regardless of how many billions there are, all of them are a character.”

“But… Even with the use of a computer, a game could only have a few NPCs, perhaps tens of them,” Chen Xiaolian smiled bitterly. “Several billion NPCs… if this is a program, then how many lines of code are required? Could that even be calculated?”

It all start 4 years ago
When I was at 2 year university knowing how my laziness is big to learning then I start streaming to someone who like to relax on it. My career as streamer was not bad after few days I have around 10 people who always relax at it without commenting. Thanks to that I start streaming with some rules :
1 Never show my face I don't want somebody to go away because of it. 
2 No commentary from me because it could destroy game.
3 Main language game is from country that it's from and only English subtitles and then I start playing different game only with story line no online.
4 Game for next stream is chosen day before by voting.
5 Games only on PC.
6 Only some game have priority made by me but I say about them week before and on what day I want to play it. 
7 Maximum 5 games started I need finish one of them before I start playing new.
After few weeks I started with that rule more people. They watch me and start enjoying my streams. Later when I have that's rules I have more people enjoying my streams and they started to donate me so thanks to that I could live by streaming. 
When I was start being bigger and bigger I went to some board game meeting where I met her. She was beautiful and almost at the same age of me. During that time we start talking exchange some contact. I first give her my contact because I lose in one game.
Few months later we start writing every day later we start meeting. After 3 months I ask her to go out with me she agree with happy face.
I was in heaven knowing that I have first girlfriend in my life. We couldn't meet every day but we texted to each other for hours she start knowing me better but she don't know about my little hobby that become my work. I know she was watching me because by her nickname she was one of most commenting person there.
When I was in high up at my streamer carrier I start save some money to ask her to marry me. That time I don't know what ring I should buy so I ask my cousin to help me choose it. 
We went to one of the best jewelry shops(by her choose) and she help me choose ring. While I was buying it she saw some neckless so I buy it to her as a gift for helping me. But mostly to shut her up to not say family about it. After that we went to different directions.
I start thinking about asking her. Location I have chosen but time I still don't know but it should be soon. I don't know when I come back to my home. 
I start my PC and I saw that she is online on voice communicator that we use sometimes to talk. When I went to the channel that she was I heard her moans and man voice.

Greg moved to America after his heart had been broken by his only girlfriend.
