Seeing the wonder on Lu Jia'er's face, Jason was very proud. "I have finally received a sense of accomplishment in this lab!"
Lu Jia'er, on hearing his words, turned around and glanced at Jason. "From what?"
"From you!" Jason replied with a laugh.
Lu Jia'er's curious eyes blinked a few times.
Jason smiled and said, "The entire R&D team is almost all men, and occasionally women participate. But you can't experience this sense of accomplishment from showing them!"
Lu Jia'er instantly had a pretty good idea. Even if these high-intelligence men could completely disdain other people's compliments, they were men after all. They still hoped to be worshipped by the opposite sex. As a matter of course, the opposite sex members were graded. The more or less knowledgeable the female worshippers were, the stronger sense of pride they would have in their work.
"One knows little about trades other than his own! In the future, I, as a kindergarten student, will have to bother all of you doctoral tutors for advice and guidance!" said Lu Jia'er.
"Professor Lu, you are being humble. There is expertise involved in every profession. Let's help each other in our work in the future!" Li Zheng replied.
Lu Jia'er smiled faintly and turned her head right ahead when she noticed several staff members in an area to the right of them doing a set of experiments. She became curious. "What tests are they doing?"
Jason looked in the direction where Lu Jia'er's gaze was fixed and then said, "Face recognition!"
"Face recognition?" Lu Jia'er repeated Jason's answer. "It seems like something I've only seen done for technology in Hollywood blockbusters!"
"Yes, science fiction movies are usually the predictors of human science, but the face recognition technology is relatively mature now and no longer merely science fiction!" Jason said.
"Is the physical attractiveness tester we use also based on this technology?" Lu Jia'er asked.
"That is only a shallow application. The facial recognition system developed by our company is currently the most advanced mass face recognition system." Jason said.
As a liberal arts student, Lu Jia'er knew little about these technologies.
However, Li Zheng, who was next to her, continued. "We're going to upgrade it very soon!"
"An upgraded version?" Lu Jia'er was a perfect example of a curious kid today.
Li Zheng was enthusiastic to explain, "The upgraded version is called 'The Eye of Sauron', aka 'The Magic Eye'!"

Lu Jia'er was completely shocked by his words. They had turned the technology that could only be imagined in science fiction movies into reality.
Lu Jia'er's admiration for them had multiplied, but Lu Jia'er also had some worries. The advancement of science and technology so far brought a lot of convenience to human beings, but at the same time one couldn't ignore that human beings were also controlled by it.
For example, if the system of "The Eye of Sauron" was really like the scene in the movie The Lord of the Rings—it would stand lofty above all, reaching the ends of the earth with its light, day and night, closely watching you, leaving one with nowhere to hide. A thing of nightmares!

Isla reached out her hands trying to touch the happy couple in front of her. The man was wrapping both his arms around the woman waist. They stood face to face, staring at each other with a lovely eyes, gently kissing each other. They only had eyes for each other.

Isla stood still, but still trying to reached out her hands to touch them. She can't move her body as if they were glued to the ground. Tears were falling from her eyes.

While Isla was staring at them with a broken heart, the man turned his face to her. Isla looked at him with a little hope in her eyes. But the man smirked at her. Isla's face was darkened. She was full of pain. Once again, the man eyes were glued at the woman standing in front of him. His expression experienced a 360° change. He looked at her with so much love that made the woman heart fluttered. She kissed him on the cheek, a little smile on her face. She wrapped her arm around his arm. They turned their back at Isla and started walking slowly, afar from her.

Isla was shouting and calling them "No! Don't leave me! Please!" She tried to move her body but she failed once again. She shouted and struggled to move her body again and again. Suddenly she felt dizzy and collapsed on the ground. She closed her eyes slowly as she watched them walking away from her.

Isla finally opened her eyes. Her whole body was covered with cold sweat. She heaved a sigh of relief as she noticed where she was. She was sleeping in her room. She was having another nightmare. One of the worst nightmare!

Though 8 years had already passed, her memories still haunted her. But these days, she doesn't have nightmares as much as before.

Isla slowly get up and abruptly sit on the bed. She rubbed her eyes gently. She looked at the clock beside her bed. It was already 7 in the morning. As she tried to prepared herself to take a bath, her phone went off. It was a call from Sylvia, her older sister. She picked up the call.

"Hello."

"Isla, did I wake you up?"

"No. I'm just trying to take a bath." Isla stood up and pick out some clothes.

"Are you okay?" Sylvia noticed that Isla's voice was different from the other times.

"I'm fine. It's just a nightmare." Isla forced a smile.

"Nightmare? I thought you already stopped having a nightmare." Sylvia asked with a worried voice.

"Yeah. It didn't occur as much as before. The last time was two months ago." Isla tried to reassurred her older sister, who was very protective of her.

"Okay. Then, I won't take much of your time. I'll try to visit you during your vacation. Take care." Sylvia ended the call.

As soon as the call ended, Mrs. Campbell quickly spoke to Sylvia. "So, how's she doing? Is she alright?" There was a worried expression on her face.

"Yes, mom. She's fine. She's having a nightmare again, but she's fine." Though Sylvia knew very clear that the nightmare will affect Isla, she didn't wanted her mother to worry so much as she was the type to overthink.

Mrs. Campbell stared at the window and thought about Isla. Nightmare again? What exactly happened to her? She recalled the day they left Houston. While she and her husband were packing their clothes early in the morning, Isla came to them. She said that she wanted to returned to New York with them. They didn't asked her much questions as they thought that she didn't want to be away from them. They don't even had any suspicion.

But from that day, Isla was like a new person. She spoke little and rarely laugh. She lived like that for six years. She studied very hard and she was always at the top of her class. She even got a Bachelor degree in Political Science from Felit University, Boston, Massachusetts; one of the top universities in the country. Currently, she's studying JD at Felit Law School.

For the past two years, Isla's mental and physical health were greatly improved, thanks to someone. Her nightmare had also went down a lot.

Many times, Isla's parents had tried to asked her what happened to her. But she never spoke up. She always refused to tell them. She'll say "It's nothing, I'm fine" all the time. But her actions never matched her words. Her carefree behaviour were gone for a very long time. But she improved a lot from two years ago. Though she can't be as normal as 8 years ago, her life became a bit better for the past 2 years.

She stayed alone at Boston for the past five years - four years for earning Bachelor degree in Political Science at Felit University and one year as first year JD student at Felit Law School. This is her sixth year of staying alone and her second year at the law school. 

Isla's mother recalled how Isla changed during the past eight years. She sighed and showed a worried face. As a mother, she was always hurt to the core whenever she thought about how much Isla suffered due to all the nightmares....

Harry's pov 

Best birthday presents ever, the telescope which they bought at the beginning was enough, really. But they said it was a school requirement and a way to remember that even if I have magic, I also have science.
The occlumency book? Just seeing it was enough for me to be almost drool, after years of working on my own I finally have som guidance in this department.
And finally, the cabinet? The only teleportation device that can breach the Hogwarts wards! Pure gold.
The only birthday day which was better was the one when mom and dad took me from the orphanage.
Anyway, we just returned home, and I couldn't wait to read the occlumency book, so when we finished eating dinner, I told my parents thank you for everything and that I'm going to Shower and to bed.
After showering I came to my room and started reading.

One hour later 

I have bad news, and good news.
After reading the entire book, I discovered one thing about my method of creating a second mind- everyone who did it went crazy when the second mind matured, the good news is that as I am a child with adult mind I can still fix it, you see, the second mind is a young mind and there for weak so I can just destroy it!
Then I went inside my mind and the battle between the main mind and second mind began.

Third pov 

It wasn't an easy battle, it was a battle for survival and sanity, so everything was used in it. It was the battlefield of nightmares, science and magic, of Fiendfyre and nuclear weapons, even star destroyers were seen on the battlefield, the main mind through to the battlefield most of his emotions and the second mind through most of his rationality, but in the end when both sides were exhausted and the main mind thanked the heavens above for helping him find the book before the second mind got even stronger, they decided on compromise, as they both lost too much in battle instead of destroying one another, they would merge into one mind as the main mind was planning since the creation of the second mind, no one would die, they would just become one.
As the process began, it was so painful that the only ones that could have said to be in more pain were the Cruciatus Curse victims, only after 3 hours of the marge it was finally over and Harry fainted.

You know the drill, I died and got wishes, than I replaced the main character and lived happily ever after... or at least that's what it is supposed to be like, so why, in instead of reincarnating in my favorite book I am stuck in this AU where I am not sure what's gonna happen? Good thing I love fan-fictions?

Although she does not want to disturb anyone, Ruru went to knock Miss Rosie's room.

Miss Rosie hardly opened her eyes. Then immediately, she opened the door. " Madam, how can I help you. "

" Miss Rosie, did my husband told you where he is? " Ruru asked nervously.

" No madam, he didn't. Is he not home yet? "

Ruru nodded.

Miss Rosie thinks for a while. " Madam, I remember. Master arrived home around 8:00 p.m but at 9:00 p.m when I was about to close the curtains, I saw Carlx fetch master and it seems that they were in a hurry. "

Still, wanting to make sure that her husband is fine. Ruru asked. " Miss Rosie can I borrow your phone. I left mine at my friend's house. "

Miss Rosie instantly picked her phone placed under her pillow and immediately gave it to Ruru.

" Miss Rosie what is my husband's number? " Miss Rosie was shocked to know that she doesn't know. Worriedly, " Sorry, madam. Master never gives his phone number to us for he calls us through the landline. But, I do have sir Carlx's number. "

Ruru searched for Carlx contact name. Then, she dialed it upon finding.

After three beeps, " Hello, Miss Rosie. " Carlx spoke on the other line.

" It's me, Ruru. "

" Mrs. Jivve, how can I help you? " Carlx answered formally.

" Are you with my husband? "

Carlx cleared his throat. " Yes. "

" Where are you? Is he fine? "

" Eh--- " Ruru sensed his hesitation.  " Tell me or I wi-- " Ruru didn't finish her words as Carlx immediately answered. " We are here at Science University, Ground A. We came along with unit 2, investigation team. "

" Investigation? " Ruru spoke almost shouting.

" Something happened and our pre-- " Carlx didn't finish his words because Ruru cut off the call.

Ruru returned Miss Rosie's phone. Then, she hurriedly walked towards the garage. Worried, she started her motorbike and fastly rode to Science University.

" Abettor Belman, I found him. Meet me at Science University. "

Abettor Belman stopped searching at Ra's company. Immediately, he jumps off each building's roof towards Science University.

Abettor Belman saw Ruru riding in the city circle. Immediately, he went down.

" Master! " Abettor Belman called while running as fast as the motorbike' s rate.

" Abettor Belman, glad you're here. "

While on their way... " Master, can I ask you something? " Abettor Belman asked.

" Ask. " A short yet demanding tone from Ruru.

" Master, why don't you ask Ra directly about ME12 and the mutation? "

Ruru went silent for a couple of minutes. " I tried. Suddenly, it triggered his sanity. I don't want to wake the nightmares he works hard to forget. Let's just do it the way we planned it without involving him. " Ruru answered with gloomy eyes as she remembers the time when Ra turned horrified.

Worriedly, Abettor Belman went silent while looking at his master's face.

While Ra and Carlx  are patiently watching the men that are investigating, a woman's silhouette shocked them. They tilt their heads and a fierce-looking woman is coldly looking at them-- as if they were about to be sentenced to death.

" Wife, what are you doing here? " Ra spoke with pause and shakes-- not because he was afraid of her stares but because he is mad. " It's already late. You should be at home. " He continued. But this time, he spoke with a higher pitch.

Ruru approached them while Abettor Belman walked behind her in a hideous existence. Then, " I'm just worried. Carlx said something happened. "

Carlx smiled furiously. " Ra I didn't think she will come. "

Ra sighed deeply. " Don't worry, it's not me. I'm just needed here as the owner of the school. " 

Ruru stood beside him. " What happened? " She asked.

" One of our students is found dead in that grassy forest-reserved of the school. " Ra explained. Upon hearing his statement, Ruru approached the investigation head.

" Excuse me, sir. Can you detail what happened to the victim? " Ruru spoke-- shocking the busy detective.

" But first, how are you related to the victim? " The man asked.

Instead of answering Ruru showed him her police i.d. Suddenly, the man answered. " But this case isn't under you. Discussing the details with you isn't needed. "

" She is concerned as she is the private detective of this school and she is also my wife, a co-owner of this university. " Ra inserted.

Considering the situation, the man sang. " The victim is named Alex Dentoris, age 19, a first-year student taking radiology. Found by Mr. Ra and Carlx around 9:30 p.m through a phone notification from an unknown source.

The corpse is taken by the team to the City Hi- Advance Medical Center for autopsy around 10:30 p.m. " The man explained. Then, he gave the victim's photos to Ruru.

The victim's chest is opened. But, there were no signs that an organ is removed. Noticeably, the heart's organ is displayed too exposed. For the rib cage that covers it was opened, the second to the fourth pair of true ribs were forcibly separated from the sternum-- exposing a detailed view of the heart organ.

The skin is slashed perfectly from the victim's collar bone aligned until the last rib. And the skin is placed on the victim's stomach and was folded into two. Ruru and Ra scanned the photos properly.

Ra sighed out of forlornness as a thought flashed in his mind. ' It's the same as the way I was dissected before. Is he the one behind this? What is he planning? ' Ra's mind flies-- making him ignore Ruru's voice.

Ruru noticed her husband's loss of mind. ' I know it. This is related to that old man. But, what is he planning? '

1:00 a.m

The investigation of the crime scene and the CCTV footage are wrapped up. And, the succeeding investigation will be done tomorrow in cooperation with unit 2 investigation team.

Abettor Belman transport to Grasus' house to immediately inform the team. While Carlx, Ruru, and Ra walked together to the parking lot.

When they arrived, Ra asked Ruru to hop in the car. Suddenly, " No, I have my motorbike. " Ruru answered.

" You will ride it at home? " Ra asked worriedly.

Ruru nodded. Worried of the cold breeze and the recent event, Ra seriously stares at Carlx-- like a general wanting to scold his soldier.

" Just hop in Mrs. Jivve, I will ride the motorbike instead. " Carlx instantly get out of the car and open his palm as he asked for the key.

" No need. Let's ride the car all three. Regarding my motorbike, I will just get it tomorrow. " Ruru answered-- not wanting to put anyone in trouble. Then, she and Carlx hop in.

While on their way, " Wife, sleep for a while, I will wake you up if we arrived home. " Ruru nodded as she really feels weak.

While on the backseat, Carlx is widely smiling. As Ruru fell asleep, " Husband of the year goes to Ra. " Carlx energetically teased.

" Shut up Carlx. I will never be the best husband. One day, she will found out about me. Do you think I can still be that husband? "

When she woke up, she was in another world. What changes will happen to her peaceful life?

Armstrong came with three people. These people were their future mentors and ones                                    who will teach them combat and assassination. The first to introduce themselves was.                          the blonde man. "Hello kids, my name is Alex and I'm going to be your assassination and hand-to-hand combat instructor. My quirk is feather foot." Alex said with a small grin. The next to introduce themselves was the beautiful busty mature women with purple hair. "Hello, my name is Sonia and I'll be your weapons instructor and my quirk is weapon mastery." Sonia said while licking her lips attempting to seduce the three children. And finally the man with the lab coat and the tied back black hair introduced himself. "Hey kids, names Zack and ill be your poison instructor and the one who will be teaching you subjects like math, English along with other languages. My quirk is perfect memory" he explained.

 After the introductions of the teachers, the children introduced themselves. Their introductions were similar to how they got to know one another but introduced themselves with more respect.
After introductions they got a schedule with what their everyday would look like.
5am- wake up and go for a 10km run
6am-work on upper and lower body with callisthenics(great way to workout without weights)
8am-breakfast
8:30am-weapons training 
11:30pm-lunch
12pm-assassination techniques
2pm-English 
3pm-science
4pm-math
6pm-computer science
7pm-foreign languages

9:30pm-quirk training
10:30pm-dinner(this late because normally when u have dinner you feel tired, later=more attention*for me at least)

 The kids looked over their schedules and were told that they had today to explore their new home and get to know each other. Doing as they were told they started to explore and made their way to their rooms. After seeing their rooms they were ecstatic. All three of them had it tough as Jackson was in a orphanage were the head mistress abused and raped him until Armstrong's men picked him up. He was abandoned for having a villainous quirk just as Damien was. Jackson was happy to finally have a room he could be safe in and not having to worry about being raped. David was found on the streets as his parents were crack heads and alcoholics. His parents abused him when they didn't have enough money for the 'good stuff' and would always complain and scream at David saying "you dirty bitch. You shouldn't have been born, you're lucky you have a roof over your head". Though Damien didn't show it on his face his eyes had a glint of excitement as his room had different colours and didn't have to worry about being tortured.

 After settling down in their rooms they all fell asleep. It was a tiring day for them as they had to kill most of the children and try to survive so they could live. Though they didn't like it they would do it again and none of them had nightmares about the 'test'. They slept until it was time to wake up and when they did they couldn't wait for breakfast. They hadn't eaten anything prior to the test and after it. They finished their run, their workout and finally ate breakfast. They ate like animals and asked for thirds. They then went on to work on weapon training and got to pick what kind of weapons they wanted to work with. Damien chose the katana, Jackson chose two daggers, and David chose a bow.

 Though Damien and Jackson could create their weapons they weren't allowed. They were told that they could only use their quirks when they were training them. When they began training Sonia was surprised at how good Damien was for his age.

"Damien have you trained with a katana before" Sonia asked.

 "Yes, I was trained in it as well as my younger brother" Damien responded.

 Sonia nodded and kept training the children and give pointers to them. After training with weapons they ate lunch and started to learn assassination techniques. They started learning about concealing their presence. after training in this for an hour Damien and Jackson got the hang of it, yet still far from being able to use it sufficiently. David on the other hand had more trouble but shortly after them he was able to use it as well. Their class went like this for the next hour and when it was over they went to be taught math, English and science. These subjects lasted three hours all together and when it was done for the day they went on to learn about computers. They were introduced to hacking and coding and ended up Messing around with simple lines of codes to create things. Next was languages and as a class they decided which to learn first. They decided to learn Japanese as they all like anime so they thought it would be good to watch anime and not read subtitles.

 They the. Went on to learn about poisons and ended up being injected with weak poisons to build an immunity to them. Then they finally went to quirk training. They were finally use their quirks and make them stronger. They all got instructed to control it Andrew to improve its attack and defence potential. None other than Armstrong thought this class as he had amazing control over his quirk. His quirk was quite hard to control as he wasn't able to turn it off in the beginning, but after years of training he could control it in ways that could make his blades form and turn different ways.(btw his quirk activated at 4 and trained to control it. It didn't take long but took a lot of concentration and control of his emotions)

 After training they ate dinner and finally went to sleep. This schedule continued but was modified in the amount they worked on their bodies as having a stronger body gives more perks and can strengthen their quirks. This training continued until they were finally strong enough to match their current combat teachers.(remember their quirks are crazy strong especially Damien. Basically a weaker meliodas but still strong for mha. Wouldn't want a character to be able to shake the continent from his power.....unlesss)

Jessica started putting the leftovers dinner in containers so that they can have it as breakfast tomorrow. Jackson likes to cook grandly. As if, there's more than two eating. Before, Jackson would just throw the leftovers away. For her, it was wasteful. She had told Jackson to cook only for two but he declined, so she had ordered to buy some containers to save them for the next day. Jackson was used to always have fresh foods to eat and had never eaten leftovers. Even in jail, his men bribed the kitchen to have his food fresh.
It was only this little girl who could make him eat it. Also, the way she recooked the leftovers makes one think that it's fresh. While Jessica was putting the foods away, Jackson started doing the dishes.
He was used to these millennial tasks as if he had done it multiple times before and he did. This one goes along with his secrets in life.
As he did the dishes, he could hear the little girl humming a tune. Although there wasn't any radio on the island, she had still retained some skills or subconscious memories. For example, one would still be able to read and write despite losing one's memories.
So this tune that she was humming came from her real memories. This made Jackson anxious sometimes, but she had never shown any indication that she remembers anything.
Jackson knew about what happened to her while he was in jail. It was as if, he had kept an eye on her all this time. Why he didn't make a move, you asked? Simple, because he felt guilty. Such a sick bastard like him could still feel guilty.
There were tons of things that happened back then. Although he acted like the boss at that time, he was only acting. In truth, he was a lab rat as well. He was a puppet who was controlled by the Golden Triad.
Jackson stopped for a second and look at his hands. He was holding a plate and sponge covered in dish soap. It was as if, he was a normal man inside this Island.
He closed his eyes, it was slightly burning with dread and worry. He knew that it would be a matter of time before those people would find him! He wasn't scared of the people looking for his little girl, rather, it was the people who was looking for him.
Not only was he hiding April from her family and friends, but also for those people. He clenched his fist, hated how weak he was. If only he was powerful enough to hide her. Wouldn't it be a dream? Luckily, Ben was on his side. He knew that Ben was already hiding as well.
As he was trying to sort his mind, Jessica noticed that Jackson was preoccupied. He wasn't moving anymore. As if her body was its own will, she moved behind him and hugged him. Giving him comfort and peace.
Jackson was startled and look at the pair of small hands in his waist. That right, she was depending on him at this moment. He shouldn't be careless or else it would make holes to his plans.
He set the stuff down and rinse his hands. He then turned around and lifted the little girl on the counter. Although she was no longer the little girl in the past, she was petite. As if she had never given birth to a child. She was roughly 5'3" and weighing only around 95 to 100 lbs. Compared to the strong and well built him, she looks fragile. Carrying her was nothing to him.
At 21, she retained her youthful look. She didn't look like a mother at all. Even her waist was firm and only shows little bit visible signs of pregnancy. It was either the work of exercises or the intervention of science. After all, she had the time and money.
This didn't matter to him, to him, she was always that little girl in his memories. The little girl who had broken through the walls in his heart.
Seeing Jackson still preoccupied, Jessica caressed his face. "Is something wrong?" She asked.
Jackson looked at her brown eyes. There was an obsession on his eyes and yet, it was gentle and full of love. If he could change his past for her, he would do it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, he can't.
He shook his head and reply, "Everything is fine. How about you? ... Are you happy here with me?" He gulped down his saliva, anxious to know her answer.
Although her memories were gone, she was still able to judge whether she's happy or not for herself.
Jessica smile at him, her smile could charm anyone who it targets too. Jackson's heart skipped a beat when he heard her answer. "Of course. As long as you are with me."
It was as if both of them were living a dream. One knew nothing about the truth, while the other one knew of it but declines to acknowledge it.
Unable to resist her charms, Jackson claimed her soft lips. Lips that he could never get tired of. These lips were the ones who made him keep living all these years.
If Alex was April's sunshine, April was Jackson's salvation in a world full of darkness.
Jessica responded to his kisses. She noticed before that Jackson's kisses weren't unfamiliar. That's why she believed him all this time. In a way, there was also this feeling of addiction in it. As if, they have kissed a billion times before and that she can't resist it.
As Jessica responded, Jackson deepened the kiss. Both of his hands held her back while her hands held his head. The two didn't stop until they almost run out of breath.
As the two slightly separated, they both could see the need in their eyes. The two could hear their fast-beating hearts as well as their heavy breathing.
To Jackson, he wanted to claim his little girl again. He was the first man in her life. He was the one who claimed her first in everything.
To Jessica, it was a sort of pull. A pull that she didn't know nor understand. If April could remember at this moment, there was an answer to it.
April had become addicted to Jackson. She would be able to explain it well through her nightmares. In truth, she wasn't scared about Jackson. Rather, she was scared of herself. In her nightmares, she begged Jackson to take her. To make her his woman. The drugs and the experimentation that they did to her had somehow altered her perception. Although she had portrayed herself as a helpless victim to Alex, it wasn't the whole truth.
There were times that she wanted it to happen. Most of those times were during with Jackson. All those monsters that had gotten their way with her, was nothing to her. This wasn't the cause of her illness. The real cause was Jackson. Jackson had become her real drug. A drug of dependence. During those moments, being in the arms of Jackson was a sort of freedom to April.
She would begged in her dream to have a moment with him. This was what scares her the most. She knew that it wasn't right and yet she wanted this sort of man. The man who had treated her hot and cold.
She was scared that she would lose herself but also scared for Jackson to not want her anymore. This sort of nightmares kept crawling at the back of her mind. Like a war between evil and good.


She didn't want all of these to happen. Never in her wildest dreams would she want to become a mistress of a Royal Business Tycoon.

Even if she came from a humble family, she didn't want to be entangled with someone who was already married. And yet, here she is.

April had loved him secretly all throughout the years and yet, this is how he repays her. Anguished, sadness and unloved. To the point of losing her mind again.

If only she could turn back time, she would never have love this ravish man! Unfortunately, they had a son. Her most treasured son was made by accident. Even though Alex didn't planned it, he wants to stand up as the father. Alex had trapped her to stay or else she would lose her son.

But where would she stand in this messy situation? She was nothing but a so called mistress. Would there be ever a day, where she will be finally be free? Or will she be taken over by her own darkness?

When life seems to be going well, calm and uneventful, a little TOO well, that's when disaster tends to strike. Lai took this rather pessimistic philosophy to heart, what with how his life had been and how every night for the better part of a month now he'd been having nightmares. 

Strange nightmares. 

The murky type where you woke up knee deep in the mud of fear and anxiety but without the faintest clue what you'd dreamt of. If that wasn't a bad omen, then Lai didn't know what was. Every day, he'd had this sinking gut feeling that something in his orderly life as a Sentry would go wrong.

Though, he didn't quite know what could go wrong. Being a Sentry for the Court of the Key, the premier authority that governed most of the sorcerers in the Western world, sounded intimidating at first: as a sentry, Lai was responsible for bringing justice to any sorcerer in his area that dabbled in dark, chaotic magics and threatened the general secrecy of magic or public order. And for the Court, justice was a nice and proper way of saying a good old assassination. A normal sentry was battle-hardened, the toughest of the toughest magi, men or women whose fists went through heads just as much as their spells. 

But Lai lived in a city, and a city was about as peaceful as it got. A huge density of people meant there were always tons of witnesses. The police were always around the corner. Even a tiny bit of misused magic would put a sorcerer up on the headlines – and then the Court of the Key would be right on their asses. No sorcerer, crazy or not, would risk this. Even the crazies had some self-survival instinct.

And, maybe most importantly, cities didn't have much magical value to them. Modern buildings and construction had rolled over all the ancient and mystical sites that could potentially have power for sorcerers to tap into. The sheer population density meant that mana was spread so thin among everyone that a sorcerer trying to power some huge dark ritual would find themselves essentially running a marathon on a few drops of water. 

The end result was that the magic-minded folk of the city weren't generally serious about their craft. Retired researchers, book worms, part-timers, novices, and the like.  Occasionally, though, an actual sorcerer would stop by, probably to take a break from the mind-numbing boredom of practicing magic in an isolated wood or mountainside and have some fun in the city. 

And, as the woman in front of him attested to, these traditional sorcerer types really did not strike up the best vibe with Lai.

"So, what do you research?" she asked, leaning forward, long red locks swaying. 

"Nothing." 

Lai held in a sigh. He'd tried to pretty up his flat, modest as it was, for this date. He'd met this girl at the Crystal Ball, a bar catered towards the magical underground, and thought with how pretty she was, she deserved something more than the mess his place usually was. 

A Sentry's salary was decent, but the sky-high living costs of the city weren't kind to his pocket. His flat was a homely little thing, one bedroom, one livingroom, one kitchen that served double duty for both food prep and potion prep. He'd cleaned out the dust and potion stains that had settled on the hardwood, sprayed some Febreze to air out the stink of processed herbs, and put up a few scented candles on the dining table.

All for nothing. The woman, Haley was her name, her family name five times longer, leaned back in her seat in disappointment, wine glass still full at her side. 

"Research just isn't my style," said Lai. "Sitting down and doing nothing – now that's boring."

"But you're a sentry!" Haley countered, as if that title guaranteed he had some long family history, some incredible research in magical theory. 

All it meant was that he was good at killing sorcerers. 

Lai remembered rather painfully why he didn't like taking sorcerers out for dinner. They didn't see him as a person to love or even a one-night hookup. They assessed his family line, his research, his natural capacity to hold mana, and all that. All technical details. Like he was breeding stock. And honestly, that creeped him out – took all the emotion out of love, to the point where he couldn't even tell if any of these sorcerers married happy or not. 

"Look, it's sort of a misconception, but it doesn't take much to be a sentry," said Lai. He took a sip of his wine. Red, a little fruity, easily chuggable – just what he needed to make it through this night. "Me, for example. I became a sentry after I started using real magic for fake magic shows to make a quick buck. The Key got whiff of me pretty quick, sent a sentry after me. The old fella told me either I could sit in their prison for magical loonies, or he could take me in and teach me how to be a sentry. All luck, really, no five hundred years of family history required."

"Well…" Haley cocked her head, slender finger at her lip. "That's kind of boring. You sentries are so mysterious. I thought you had something more, how should I say it, special?"

"Special in that we know how to track, pin down, and kill sorcerers. And let me tell you right now – you don't get that type of knowledge by reading books." 

Haley leaned forward with a sort of morbid curiosity, obviously undaunted by the fact that Lai was skilled in the very particular art of massacring her peers. 

"Oh, so you're more like those policemen," she said, pausing to think for a second. "The ones dressed in black."

"Those aren't policemen, and it's better if you stay out of their business."

She was talking about the Suits. Killers that really put in the cutting part of cutting-edge. They were a purely non-magical organization, but they dominated the criminal and political underworld of modern-day society. A near global network of contract killers and professional hitmen whose mastery of firearms, explosives, and other modern trinkets made them easily as deadly, if not more so than the average sorcerer who spent all day sitting around and fiddling with potion ingredients. 

"I'm just curious," Haley pouted. She cocked her head and stared straight at Lai, a sly smile at her lips. "And about you, too."

"About what I do as a sentry?"

She rolled her eyes.

"That's work stuff. I meant how you are as a person. You've been pretty guarded this whole night."

Maybe there was something Lai could work with here, and if she was up to bat, he was most definitely up to catch. 

"Oh? You want to know something? Then shoot – I'd be more than happy to keep you interested."

"Good. I hear you're good friends with Roshana."

Lai internally groaned. Roshana was the Court of Key's herald, someone who they sent to his city and general area every so often to investigate and make sure nothing was wrong. That no sorcerers with screws loose weren't sacrificing innocent people to summon demons and all that. If she found something wrong, she'd send a report to the court and then they'd file orders to Lai, giving him a warrant for Decimatio, a fancy term for saying he'd have to go out and kill the poor sod. 

The last and only Decimatio Lai had received was six years ago, when he first took up the mantle of Sentry, and he'd worked closely with Roshana to solve the case. Since then, they'd kept in touch a bit, but it was hard considering she traveled so often. Still didn't stop most sorcerers from asking about her anytime they met Lai. It felt like every single sorcerer wanted to meet her, famous as she apparently was. Lai didn't keep abreast of what happened among the main sorcerer's community, so he had no clue why she got so much attention. 

"We keep in touch a little I guess," said Lai. "But what about it?"

Haley's eyes lit up, her curiosity a fire as bright as her hair. "They say she's unlocked one of the primal mysteries. Nobody's done that in hundreds of years! I'd love to talk to her and learn all about it."

Ah yes, the primal mysteries. Things like immortality, time travel, dimensional travel, and whatnot. What science fiction is like to science except for magic. Something so great and awesome that Haley would accept a date from a nobody sorcerer with no good research or established family name just in the hopes of getting a connection to it. 

Lai forced himself to keep smiling. "Actually, you're in luck. Roshana's here on one of her routine investigations. Let me just step outside and make a call to her."

"My goodness, thank you so much!" sealed Haley, like she was a teenager about to meet her Rockstar idol. 

Lai closed his flat door behind him and rolled his shoulders, stretching out tonight's failure. He really didn't belong among these sorcerers. They lived in such a different culture from him. So focused on magic, all its tiny little secrets, and he didn't have a place here. In short: he was an outcast
. 
Lai went to the hallway window by his flat and drummed his fingers against the windowsill, watching the deep night outside. His flat was on the tenth floor and he rather liked the night view here, with the many vibrant lights of cars and streetlights blinking like bejeweled fireflies in the dark - a good breather. 

Not that he minded being removed from sorcerer culture. Okay, maybe he did mind a little, considering he couldn't well get along with regular folk knowing about all the amazing things going down below in the world of magic, but he considered himself a self-sufficient type, always ready to perk his head up and meet a new day by his good old lonesome self. Or that's what he told himself. He couldn't quite tell yet.

Absent-mindedly, he opened his phone and punched in Roshana's number. She'd been in this exact situation before and knew what to do. Meet up with Haley, feed her some vague mumbo jumbo, send her off all deluded into thinking she'd gotten a step closer to unraveling the secrets of magic and all that.

He heard the ringtone buzz past three times. Odd. She was a punctual person, always ready to answer and make calls. When the call went to her very seldom used voicemail, he put the phone away with some unease.

He'd check up on her tomorrow. 

A sudden thunderous crash from within his flat told him that maybe he'd be needing that checkup instead.

With a start, Lai swung open his door and peered in, body tensed like a spring and ready to move forwards to battle. Or backwards in retreat: a very useful move in life or death battles that many sorcerers didn't have the pride to resort to.

And well, Lai gave an apathetic nod at what he saw.

At the center of his room was a hole in the hardwood, large and gaping, dust rising from its circumference, clouding the room. Halsey had backed herself in the far corner, fear struck across her face but like all sorcerers, she'd been trained enough to keep some semblance of her composure and not to scream mindlessly. 

Lai did have to give her massive props for that. Because holding onto the ceiling with fat, grubby arms, was a grotesque beast he'd never once seen before. Looked like a morbidly obese man, its massive gut sprawling out and drooping towards the floor, making it hard to tell whether it even had legs. Its two flabby limbs latched onto the ceiling with monstrous strength, the thick-boned digits actually gouging into the wood to form a grip. It didn't have a head, and instead a large, gluttonous mouth about the size of a child ringed its belly, razor sharp teeth clinking together as it slobbered for blood. 

Lai juggled the option of running here. He didn't know what this beast was, but it most definitely did not come here for a three-way date. Someone had summoned this thing to attack him at his home, and attacking a sorcerer at their home was akin to trying to assault a soldier entrenched in a fortified bunker. A sorcerer's home was their territory – someone more competent than Lai would have had traps and failsafes lining every wall, every corridor.

The fact that someone had sent this beast so confidently either meant this creature was ridiculously powerful, strong enough to overpower most sorcerers even with a homefield advantage, or this certain somebody knew who Lai was and what he was capable of. In either case, Lai was at a disadvantage. The natural thing to do here was to run, maybe take in a few ranged pot shots to see what it was capable of.

But Lai knew Haley wasn't up for this. She came from a good family, sure, had lots of mana, but she didn't have the knowledge to refine it. Maybe she could toss out a basic fireball, but that definitely wouldn't be enough for a demon capable of taking physical form like this. Demons that managed to sprawl out of the realm of intangible nightmares were big deals – heavy hitters that ate up fireballs for breakfast and snapped spines with their pinkies. 

Lai had brought her here – she was his responsibility, and he'd be damned if he'd let her die on his watch.

Lai is a Sentry, an assassin that hunts criminal sorcerers in a world much like our own aside from the fact that magic lies hidden from the public's view. He's led a rather peaceful life watching over his city, but chaotic elements start adding up, and it he will find himself fighting all manner of magical threat. From witches to cultivators to dragons - you name it.

The only issue is that he has no talent for magic. However, he does have have something no other sorcerer has: the Planetarium System which lets him host his own personal planet inside him.

Hu Yifei also wrote down the three names of Silver Bear, Zhu Qijie and decimal system mentioned by Luo Cheng, thinking that this is not a good bird either. when he succeeds, he will see if he can get the contact numbers of these three guys, and then clean them up together. 
When he finished writing, glancing at the four names on the list, Hu Yifei suddenly reacted, damn it, the man of science and technology that Luo Cheng was talking about was talking about himself, he formatted their server, and then created a shutdown storm, and everything could be matched. 
As soon as this idea arose, Hu Yifei suddenly broke out in a cold sweat on his back. all the time, he thought that these things were unnoticed, but he never thought that others not only knew it, but also everyone knew it.
