Zhang Zian decided to continue the pet store until he couldn’t support it anymore. His parents had loved pets very much. If they were looking down from heaven, they would be sad to see the store go.

Although it was a good wish, he knew nothing about running a pet store. There was a first time for everything, though; he believed he would find a way, one step at a time. 

His first goal would be relatively small—to establish a solid footing in the city. 

He had a big breakfast at a street vendor and felt energized. He returned to the store, moved the cages and display cases out, dusted with a broom, soaked the mop in disinfected water, and mopped the floor until it was nice and shiny. He moved the cages and display cases back after the floor had dried.

He also wanted to renovate the store, but he gave up on that thought after realizing the shortage in cash flow.

When he was cleaning the store, some neighbors walked by and expressed their sympathies for his loss. Some neighbors didn’t know him and just looked at the cages and display cases with curiosity.

When the sun started to rise, he finished cleaning. All the dust and odors were completely gone, leaving only the fresh scent from the disinfecting water. It smelled just like before.

His parents had always taught him to keep a clean mind and live a clean life. 

He had gotten all sweaty from cleaning the store. He moved the reclining chair to the door and rested for a few minutes. 

Now that he had decided to take over the pet store, there had to be some paperwork to handle. First, he needed to change the owner’s name from his parents to his name on the business license. He was not familiar with the procedure, so he started researching online using his cell phone.  

"I have to go to the notary’s office. So much work!"

In order to inherit and transfer the pet store to his name, he needed to get an inheritance notarization using his ID card, the deed for the pet store, and his parents’ death certificates.

Zhang Zian always tried to avoid dealing with troublesome matters like that because he hated them. He was not even sure how he made such an irrational decision like inheriting the pet store.

He wanted to have a fresh mind and pull himself together. No matter how sad he was, he should not show his tears to the customers.

He opened the app store in his cell phone and started a search with "pet" as a keyword. He wanted to see if there was an app which would teach people how to run a pet store, although deep in his mind he didn’t think he would be able to find it.

Umm, what was that?

A game with a "limited time download" sign showed up in the search results.

Some apps and software were free for a limited time, but this was the first time he ran into something tagged "limited time download."

"<Pet Hunter>?"

Ha!

He laughed. He achieved his goal to freshen up his mood. 

Exaggerating! This was way over the line!

It might be possible to capture virtual pets, but how was it possible to capture a real pet with a cell phone? It even mentioned capturing mythical creatures... Unbelievable!

There was a countdown next to the game, showing that there were only 00 hours, 00 minutes, and 49 seconds left to download.

"Let’s see if this really is a ‘limited time download’!"

He hit the "download" button, and the download shortly reached full speed. 

This game was pretty large. Hopefully it wasn’t a virus!

He hesitated. When he was about to cancel the download, it showed "download completed!" on his cell phone.

Almost at the same time, the downloading page disappeared. The app store went back to the home page automatically. 

He put the keyword "pet" in the search bar again.

"Oh really?! Nothing?!"

The result showed nothing was matching his keyword. 

He didn’t want to give up yet. He added "hunter" after "pet" as keywords, but still nothing came up.

"This game is really a limited time download… What does the developer want?" he murmured to himself, confused.

Developers made games for marketing. The more players there were, the broader the influence. The broader the influence, the more money the game would make. Even free games earned reputation for the developer. Limiting the time to download meant limiting traffic. Who would do something like that? 

A dialogue popped up on his cell phone: Install? 

He chose "Yes."

Installing…

Installation completed. "Confirmed" or "Open"?

He chose "Open."

The logo of "Pet Hunter" showed up on the screen.

"Record fingerprints?! What if it’s a scam…" He frowned.

He used the fingerprints on his right hands for online banking. Just in case it was a scam, he used his left hand to record the fingerprints. 

[Game Hint]: Fingerprint recorded successfully. Logging in automatically…  

The background looked like the deep dark night. A shining white light was jumping lightly.

The sudden voice caught him off guard. He almost threw away his cell phone.

"Ugh, is it the customer service representative? How do I contact her…I don’t see where to input words…" Zhang Zian was speaking to himself, feeling confused. 

[Navigation Elf]: You may speak to me!

"Really?! You can hear me?!" he asked, once again surprised. 

[Navigation Elf]: Yes! I can hear you nice and clear!

"OMG! This is a 24-hour one-on-one customer service representative! No wonder the download was limited…" He shrugged his shoulders and thought, "This game must be high in costs. How come I didn’t see the developer’s name… What is it? Hiding from fame?"

[Navigation Elf]: This is your first login. Before launching the game, would you like to go through the beginner tutorial? Alternatively, you may skip the tutorial and start immediately.

"What’s your recommendation? Is this game difficult?" he asked.

You should pick something that has some scope in Nepal. I am telling this for the last time there is only a single month before your exams start. Study hard and score at least 70% in the upcoming exams or else you can just leave thoughts of studying any further and find work."

Saying this, Shuvam's dad stormed out of the room, leaving behind Shuvam in red misty eyes.

Hearing what his dad said, Shuvam crashed into his bed and started sobbing."sob..sob…why…why…did this happen? Why can't they…sob..sob..understand?"

His phone vibrated. He knew that he had received a message. He wiped his ' About to flow out ' tears from his misty eyes and checked his message.

The message came from some unknown source. There was no name or number of the sender, just the message. The message was - ' Mr. Shuvam, You have been selected as the winner of our lucky draw competition. You will be emailed a link to download a software which will be helping you in your life to achieve your goals for free. Install the software and your life shall change. '

' Huh ? I didn't participate in any lucky draw. How did I win? They even know my name and contact. ', he thought.

' Maybe I participated in something and forgot, I guess. Let's check what this is. It would be really good if it could really help me achieve my goals. Haha What am I thinking? A software making me a game designer. ', he thought.

He was smiling and hadn't realized that streams of tears were flowing from both his eyes. He realized he was crying and quickly wiped those tears. He got up from his bed and sat on the chair nearby and opened his laptop which was placed on the desk in front of him.

It was an old low spec laptop but it was enough for him to play some games and use older versions of unity to try game developing. This laptop was gifted to him by his cousin who was in U.S. It was old, bulky and even occasionally leaked electricity from its metal casing. But for Shuvam, this laptop was his life.

He had connected a keyboard and a mouse onto the computer because few of the inbuilt keyboard keys were not working and he didn't like using the touchpad. He input the password of the laptop and took out his cellphone simultaneously. He didn't have an internet connection at home so he had to use data plans along with the hotspot option of his mobile to be able to use internet on his laptop.

He used NRs  20 to get a data plan which allowed him to used unlimited data for a hour. He checked his gmail and quickly found the link to download the software. He clicked on the link and a setup file of 600 megabytes started downloading. The average download speed in his current network was about 500-600 kbps. It took about 30 minutes to download the software. He had been watching videos on YouTube which had considerably slowed the download speed which resulted in taking longer time to download.  (1$ = about NRs 105)

After the setup file finished download, he opened the file and his whole screen was engulfed in darkness. Suddenly, a timer was shown on the screen with the same black screen in the background. The timer showed 25 days remaining. Shuvam thought he had seen it wrong due to his still somewhat musty eyes. He rubbed his eyes and looked again and was shocked to see that it really did show 25 days remaining. He removed his laptop battery and placed it again and opened his laptop again in hopes of terminating the setup process. 

The laptop opened again but it directly took him to the timer screen. He repeated the process for a few times and suspected that the screen didn't go away but the timer was moving even after his laptop was shut down. It was already late at night (11pm) so he shut the computer down and went to sleep. He wanted to know for sure if the installation process would carry on or not.

Next day, he woke up at 8 Am. He brushed his teeth, had his breakfast. His dad was on his morning walk and his mom and brother had already went to school. His brother was a student and his mom was a teacher at the same school. He opened the laptop and found out that his suspicion was correct. Even though the laptop was turned off, the installation process was going on.

He decided to wait for the installation to finish and shut the computer down. He went ahead and read novels on qidian till 12:00 and went to sleep at 12:30 because his mom  and brother would be home at 1:00 .

The next few weeks went by in similar manner. It was finally time when the installation would be finished. He was really looking forward to it. He wanted to know what this mysterious software was and the fact that if it could really help him achieve his goals or not. He opened the laptop, the timer showed that there were 4 minutes remaining till the completion of the installation of the software.

After the installation completed, the laptop restarted. He put in the password of the laptop and was eager to see what was installed. He saw that all the  software shortcuts on the desktop were the already installed ones. There was no new software installed. He opened the program files and searched for any new folders. One should know that Shuvam really loved computers and computer games. So he pretty much knew  the names of all the folder in program files. He didn't find any new folder and was disappointed in his heart.

' Maybe I expected too much from my life ', he thought and laughed at himself and his pitiful state.

Suddenly, a robotic thingy appeared on his screen. It had a rectangular body and stringy hands and legs. " Hi Shuvam.", it said. Shuvam was scared. This thing, a thing on his computer that seemed like it was walking in the background of his computer screen was talking to him. 

"Hi", he said stiffly.

"Hitman"?
Never heard of the game. Is it a mini-game made by foreign developers?
Ren Suo glanced at the clock. It was near noon. He ordered food to be delivered, then peed and washed his face. When he was done, he settled on the couch in the living room and started playing the Mini Worlds Gaming Console.
The apartment his uncle rented out to him was well-designed, furnished with a sound system, a 4K TV, couch and other furniture. It was a haven for a single inhabitant. And even more so with a girlfriend.
So Ren Suo bought his dream girlfriend – the fourth princess, a.k.a. Hell4PRO.
Having washed his face, Ren Suo felt fully awake. Only then did he recall that he had bought his games separately from his gaming console.
The order confirmation in his mobile phone showed that his "Unparalled Hero 8" and "Curse of the Evil Spirit 2" was still on the way. It would probably take a couple more days to reach him. So, even though he had the console, it was useless.
"Unparalled Hero 8" was the latest arcade game, while "Curse of the Evil Spirit 2" was a hardcore action RPG. Ren Suo had taken a long time to decide on these two games. He was ready to throw a few months into them till he became a platinum player and till he started work.
Because buying these two masterpieces had nearly emptied Ren Suo's gaming fund, he wasn't intending to buy digital copies of games on the Hell online game store. Digital copies were typically more expensive than physical copies. Unless there was a discount, Ren Suo would not consider them, not to mention the collectible nature and resale potential of physical copies.
If he were to become rich in the future, Ren Suo would collect game discs as trophies of his glorious days;
If he were poor, then he would sell them away to recoup his losses. After all, these games cost him quite a fortune.
Because of these two reasons, Ren Suo chose to buy physical copies despite their long delivery time.
Without the games, Ren Suo had no choice but to leave the Hell4PRO in the garage and play "Hitman" on Mini Worlds.
He clicked on [Free Game of the Month]. The game description of "Hitman" introduced the game was an action RPG – an immersive assassination game. The gamer played the role of a modern hitman who had the skill "Bullet Time" and was a master of all weaponry and combat styles. He could even pick other assassin characters. It looked pretty impressive.
After selecting to download the game, a message popped out:
[Player has chosen a free chapter. The free chapter of this month is Hitman's "Bloodied Banquet". Difficulty of game: 1 star.]
[This free chapter has a difficulty rating of 1 star, hence the exclusive reward is canceled (exclusive rewards are awarded only to 2 stars or above).]
[The time left in this free chapter is 14 hours 23 minutes 51 seconds. This game will be deleted when the time is up.]
"What? I can only play one chapter in the free game, and I'm left with less than 15 hours?" Ren Suo complained. But having seen the likes of too many freebies in Xuan Nation, he wasn't too surprised.
Yet, the download speed of this game was crazy quick. In less than five seconds, Ren Suo received the message that the download was complete. That took away any hopes Ren Suo had about the game. Although the apartment boasted Xuan Telecom's 200M fibre optic cables, a game that could be downloaded via WIFI in less than 5 seconds couldn't have been more than 100M in size.
Even if it was just a single chapter, the music, software, images…etc. had to be downloaded still. Such a small game was either cut to its bare bones or tiny in scale to begin with. Although size didn't equate to a game's quality, it limited how impressive a game could be.
"Looks like it's just a mini game… Wait?"
Ren Suo suddenly realized that he had not connected the Mini Worlds Gaming Console to the apartment WIFI.
But this Mini Worlds Gaming Console was omnipotent the moment it appeared. It could connect to Hell4PRO's game controller and the DaMi TV. It wasn't too much of a stretch for it to be able to connect to the apartment's WIFI automatically.
However, the moment he entered the game, Ren Suo's slain expectations revived immediately!
On the screen, rain drops fell off the roofs of the buildings on either side. Pitter patter, they hit the murky alley floor. In the distance, the lights on the skyscrapers and the streetlamp outside the alley became the only source of light in the alley.
And in that dark abysmal alley, a figure shrouded under a black umbrella stepped leisurely through puddles of water till he occupied the center of the screen. He was dressed in a suit, his bearing straight, like an aristocrat in the rainy night.
Just then, the camera zoomed in under the umbrella, giving the player a clear view of this man's face-
[Please configure the hitman's appearance.]
"What the-? This isn't CG, it's the actual graphics in the game?" Ren Suo was stunned. Even now, the rain-soaked alley was visible behind the character. The play of light, the rain drops, the buildings, the details, the ambience, the character… they were unmatched even by that so-called highest-performance game "Log Horizon"!
"No way this is a mini game. This is definitely a triple-A heavy-hitter!" Ren Suo's interest was piqued. He noticed that the character in the game was automatically set as a fearsome looking bald man. After he selected to change his appearance, a series of face-changing options popped out, intimidating Ren Suo.
Although he liked to control cool-looking characters, Ren Suo was really not that interested in changing their appearance, especially when appearance attributes are so finely calibrated now that a single facial adjustment involved changing a dozen of digits. As a terminal patient of laziness, Ren Suo wasn't going to waste his time on this.
Typically, one who liked good-looking characters but didn't want to waste time like Ren Suo would simply search for other players' records, copy their facial attributes and paste it into his game to make a character he liked. At most he'd adjust the pupil colour, hair style and hair colour. And voila – that'd be Ren Suo's character!
But when Ren Suo searched "Hitman" online, while he did find other games with the same theme and title, none of them had graphics like Ren Suo's version. And none of them allowed the player to change the character's face. So Ren Suo's lazy tactic couldn't work.
Thankfully, in the menu there were options like [Recommend a face] and [Recommend a character].
In [Recommend a character], apart from the initial 'Bald Hitman', 'Clown Hitman', 'Demon-Hunter Hitman', there was also [For more characters, please purchase Characters DLC].
Ren Suo looked and realized that apart from the looks and voice, the choice of characters would affect their skill and abilities. For instance, the Bald Hitman's skill was [Bullet Time], which affected the speed of time;
Clown Hitman, who sported make-up on his face, had the skill [Shapeshifting], which needed 30 merit points to unlock;
the white-haired wrinkly-faced Demon-Hunter Hitman's skill was [Abyssal Wolf Sword Art], which needed 30 merit points to unlock.
Not only that, even their starting expertise were different. Bald Hitman's was [Combat Master] and [Weapon Master]. Clown Hitman's was [Weapon Novice] and [Throwing Expert]. Demon-Hunter Hitman's just [Grandmaster of Sword]. 
Among the three [Recommended Characters], only Bald Hitman was recommended for first-time players and free to use.
Till now, Ren Suo had not figured out how he could top-up credit in the game. Regardless, he was not going to burn cash on a game that would be deleted in 14 hours. So he picked Bald Hitman.
But of course, he wasn't going to use the default face settings. In the [Recommend a face] option, he picked a sharp-looking Xuannese face and added a teardrop shaped red mark on his forehead to make him look even more sick.
[Please name the hitman.] The message popped up after he confirmed the character.
Ren Suo just named him "Hitman". In the next instant, the image on the screen moved as his controller vibrated. The hitman smiled at him under the umbrella; he could now control this character.
Just then, a homeless drunkard appeared in front of the hitman. Stepping through murky puddles of water, he lifted his bottle like he was looking for a fight.
Through the process of subduing this drunkard and walking out of the alley, Ren Suo learnt the basics of the game. After knocking out the drunkard with his combat skills, the message popped out: [Find a way to enter the Lamperouge banquet on the 8thfloor of the Blackthorn Tower using a legitimate identity by 2000HRS.]
The camera moved upwards. In the screen, a bright majestic tower right in front of the alley rose up into the sky. A green inverted pyramid mark appeared above the tower. Looks like that's the target destination of the player.
Ren Suo controlled the hitman to walk out of the alley. Branded sportscars and lamborginis lined the road outside the tower. Ushers holding umbrellas came greeted and welcomed guests outside the tower.
He walked nearer to take a closer look. Those finely dressed social elites would produce an invitation before entering the tower. Only after the ushers had verified their invitations could they enter. Moreover, these ushers had impeccable service and manners; their eyes stayed on the guests all the way up till the point when they entered the elevator.
For example, Ren Suo saw a young gentleman who had parked a distance away and had filthy water splashed onto him. When he approached the building and flashed his invitation, the usher immediately said, "Mr. Ricard, we have spare suits and dryers up in the tower. Allow me to take you there."
"Thank you."
Truly, the usher's service was faultless. He led this young gentleman all the way to the elevator and told the usher inside the elevator about the gentleman's needs. Throughout the whole process, at least three ushers had their eyes on him. Looks like it was absolutely impossible to sneak in.
Ren Suo controlled the hitman and made him attempt to enter the tower. Naturally, he was stopped by an usher. The usher spoke a few lines of English and simultaneously, a dialogue box popped up beside his head, "Sir, please present your invitation."
At this moment, four options appeared at the bottom of the screen. Ren Suo could pick them using his direction pad, but he had only 10 seconds to do so, otherwise the first option would be picked for him by default.
①"I left my invitation at home."
②"I'm one of the people in charge of the company up above. I need to ride the elevator up to pick up a document."
③ (Attack him) "Since when do I take instructions from you?"
④ (Take out 5 pounds) "Cousin! It's been such a long time…"
Wow, he could pick a response? Ren Suo wasn't all too alien with this sort of gameplay. These options basically decided how the player would get past the obstacle. Based on Ren Suo's many years of watching gameplay videos, he believed that ① was pretty much a useless option;②was a tactic of talking his way through the obstacle;③ was surely charging through with brute force;④ was an option to bribe his way through. 
Tentatively, he picked the seemingly cost-free ② - "I'm one of the people in charge of the company up above. I need to ride the elevator up to pick up a document."
Usher: "Oh? Unfortunately, the tower's been closed since 1800HRS. Please come back tomorrow."
Ren Suo: "What gives you the right?"
Usher: "The fact that this tower belongs to the Lamperouge family."
Ren Suo: "..."
So his first attempt failed. Ren Suo decided to try again with the other options.
But this time, the usher frowned. "Why are you here again? Security, take this man next door so he can cool down."
Two nearly two-meter tall security personnel, dressed in blue uniforms, strode over and grasped the hitman, one on each side. Ren Suo assumed that the mission had failed. Soon, however, the hitman was taken to an alley.
"Don't start trouble, kid," the security guard patted the hitman's head, then turned around and started to leave. Subconsciouly, Ren Suo pressed a button on his controller and the hitman automatically seized the guard's neck and snapped it with a crack.
Ren Suo was momentarily stunned. But not the other guard. He immediately pressed something in his ear and shouted, "A hostile has appeared. Position – Palen Alley. Terry's been killed. Send reinforcements, send reinforcements!"
He pulled out his baton and pointed it at the hitman, retreating out of the alley slowly while he reported the hitman's deeds to his superiors.
Ren Suo watched as the security guard exited the alley. In the screen, the dead body of the guard began to glow a faint yellow. He made the hitman turn and examine the body. Three options appeared above the body: Search, Drag and Handle.
[Search] allowed him to strip the guard of his clothes and equipment and use them himself; 
[Drag] would mean to move the body; but when Ren Suo clicked [Handle], the game prompt appeared: [You do not have any tools to handle the body.]
Just then, a dozen men in black armed with guns appeared outside the alley and started shooting at the hitman. Blood burst out of the hitman and the game screen turned into black and white.
[You died.]


The extraordinaire has disrupted the silence of the world and ever since then, technology has taken a different path. 
When humans find a path for evolution in the dark, I’ll remove my ribs, burn my heart and burn the midnight oil to become their pioneer. 
This is the process of a gamer manipulating the world.

Next day.

Last night, Apollo bought a few things from Atlas, a router and a sim.
The reason Apollo wanted to buy this is to give back to his customers who buy his food at a ludicrous price. 

The router came from the year 2200 where the internet has evolved to the point that a mere terabyte of storage can't even be counted as memory. The sim he bought has an unlimited bandwidth, capable to have speeds up to one petabyte. (1024 Terabyte.). The speed is overkill but it only cost him a few points, so he didn't really care.

The router's overall design is a bit... weird. It's a small box that is the same size as a regular person's palm, in each corner, there are needle-sized antennas poking out. Meanwhile, the sim's outer appearance is also a bit weird, it looks like a sewing needle.

The signal isn't a problem as the router's range is the size of a country and the person connected could still access the internet even if said person is a dozen kilometres away.

Apollo didn't care about the technical details and set up the router, he placed the sim behind the router and turned it on. The reason why he didn't plug it into an outlet is because it runs on crystals, on a normal battery, a crystal contains approximately 30,000 mAh, it could last up to months even if it stayed on during the duration.

He placed it on the counter and change the username and password of the wifi, and opened the restaurant.

Kate and the gang's silhouette could be seen in the distance, Justin and his friends are chatting not far from them.

They arrived at the restaurant and went to their usual positions, Justin and his friends set up their laptops in their respective tables, Kate and her friends sat on the counter, meanwhile Levi is absent.

"Az, get your pocket wifi out, let's try playing league today, I'm tired of destroying noobs in CSGO." Justin said.

Azrael stared at him and shook his head, "You guys used up all the data."

"How about you Vince? Did you bring yours?" 

"It's charging at home. Why don't you bring out yours? Stop being a cheapskate!" 

Justin laid his back on the chair, "Ughh, what's the point of bringing our laptops then?!"

Kate heard their chat and intervened,  "You guys could just connect to the boss' wifi."

Justin turned stiff, 'Oh my god! She talked to me!'

He stood up from his seat and asked Apollo for the wifi password, Apollo gave it to him and returned to cooking the fried rice while cooking the fried chicken at the same time.

Justin got back to his seat and connected to the wifi, same with Vincent and Azrael. When using public wifi, the trio always uses a VPN to avoid getting their information stolen. They turned on their Vpn's and change the location to their country so that they could play with people in the country.

Whenever they play using public wifi, they would first check the latency to avoid playing with bad internet, Justin went to a speed test site and checked the speed, the latency is 0 but something weird happened to the site as it only showed "Error" on both the Download speed and the Upload speed.

"Boss, is your wifi broken or something?" Justin asked from his seat.

Apollo didn't reply, so Justin tried it on different speed test sites but got the same thing. He went to his steam library and tried to download games to check the speed, as he had a ton of games in his library, he tried to find the largest game, he found Final Fantasy XV with a file size of over 100Gb.

He right-clicked the game and clicked download, just as he was about to pick up the cup of coffee in his table, the download already finished and his pc is currently writing all the data required so the game will be playable.

Justin stared at his laptop screen, dumbfounded.

The wifi isn't for free though, Apollo only gave them the password because they were his regulars, he won't do this again. Only VIP customers and the Miller family could access the wifi from now on.

Justin and his friends played in their tables happily, meanwhile, Kate is asking Apollo some personal questions, or rather, interrogating him, but Apollo still answered them. He didn't know why but chatting with Kate relieves his soul for some reason, it's like Kate is 'The One.' people keep talking about.

The three packed their bags and left the restaurant, meanwhile, Justin and his friends stayed for the rest of the day and kept playing, they just plugged their laptops in a nearby outlet when it's low on battery.

Levi just sat on the corner, seemingly waiting for something to happen and on guard.

Apollo is an astronaut who got sent to a mission to go to mars so that humanity could once again make a breakthrough, but an accident happened, and their spaceship got sucked into a black hole. Apollo's crew members died because of a meteor that also got sucked into a black hole, and only he is alive. 

After dozens of millennia, Apollo woke up inside a broken spaceship he clearly and vividly remembers. In those thousands of years, his body was cultivated to the point of a god, and he gets a ticket back to earth.

"Ai, newbie!" Just when Pu Yunchuan was sighing, a muscular green titan beside him shouted, "Why are you in a daze for? Hurry over to sign the contract and go do the operation, allowing the players queueing behind you to enter. Stop delaying the line!"
"Okay okay…" The fatty hurriedly nodded when he heard this.
He had seen such situations before. When a game just started, there would be too many people in newbie villages. In order to guarantee that there wouldn't be too many people stuck at the starting map, the situation of a queue forming would appear. But how many years had it been since such a scene appeared?
Right now, there were too many game companies. Not including private designers and private work teams, there would be thousands of games going into the market each year. For something like a queue to happen, only when [Titan] was launched twenty years ago did such a situation occur.

After understanding the details, only now did Pu Yunchuan get it. It was using a biological modification to change the race of players. This setting was quite interesting.
He walked outside the biological chamber. A moment later, a green light sphere passed a form to him. On the form, the list of operations where he could choose from could be seen. These were the so-called races in this game.
Pu Yunchuan took a look. There were a total of three races. The first was green titan, which was the green giant maintaining order in the great hall earlier. This race had thick muscles, but Pu Yunchuan disdained this kind of job. Although he was fat, when playing [Underground City] and [League of Legends], he would always play agile and nimble characters. He felt no feelings for those muscle-bound warriors at all. In addition, the job responsibility green titans were responsible for was actually mining.

Fatty was stunned after he read until there. The early paths were either mining or farming? There was actually not a path where they had to fight monsters and gain levels? What was this game trying to do?
Could it be that the players gathered really had to first build a base before they could proceed with the interstellar expansion?

Even with the backing of the A.I. system and high-end computers, there were currently no games that could make a breakthrough in the 'fixed pattern' of leveling-up and killing monsters. Michael noticed that the game was currently rank 94 in Google play store and 92 in the Apple store. For an app to break into the top 100 within one day was an astonishing achievement. He noticed that there were already youtube videos of the game. One of them was a famous YouTuber who was probably hired by the marketing agency. 

The first episode of the lets play series already had 30 million views. The comments were supportive and the game was appraised as the game of the year. The download count was already at 25 million. 

"Well, that is good news. Hopefully, we are just getting started." Michael commented and walked away. 

Arjun was flabbergasted by Michael's response. Michael did not even seem excited by the game's performance. Just what sort of company did he join? How high was Michael aiming?

When Michael sat down in his office. He finally let loose and breathed out. It was not easy to make a successful game. The competition was tough and most of the top rankers were supported by mega-corporations. 

Occasionally some indie developer will have high rankings and it would be a popular story. The reason why it would gather attention was because it was a rare incident. Long gone was the time that the top apps were created by hard work and creativity. All the current apps were dragged to the top by marketing and massive developer teams. 

Even if he had the system, Michael was nervous when he released the game. However, the results gave him confidence. Furthermore, He knew that he needed to build more games. Capos was an adult game centered around crime so it had a limited market. He needed to design more games to reach a wider audience. 

Michael had plans to move on to console games; he wanted to dominate both markets. In reality other than gaming and trading stocks he did not have any other business idea. Eventually, he would expand into other industries but gaming will always be his cornerstone. 

First, he needed to figure out how to monetize Capos. Right now the game was completely free and had no purchases. He wanted to make sure the game was popular before adding in-app purchases. After brainstorming, he decided to add diamonds as a premium currency in the game. Michael wanted to add premium accounts with faster leveling and more loot from missions. 

Michael felt like premium accounts were a reasonable way for developers to generate revenue while keeping players happy. The casual players can just play free and have access to the whole game. While the hardcore players can use premium mode to cut back on the grinding. 

It did not take long to add the diamonds to the game with the help of the designer. The diamonds could be redeemed for one month of premium rank for player accounts. They can also be sold and exchanged by players in the game. Michael set the price for diamonds at five dollars. He felt like five dollars a month was a fair price for such a revolutionary game. 

Michael called Arjun over. Arjun was the team lead and had the most experience working for gaming companies out of all his employees. He explained the diamonds and their uses. 

" Hmm… The base idea is very good. However, if you let players freely exchange the diamonds then you will have real money trading problems. Basically, some players will try to set up farming groups and will sell the diamonds on the black market for cheaper prices." Arjun warned Michael. If they set up direct monthly billing for premium accounts then this would not be an issue. However, if a commodity was used for premium services then farming groups will eat away the company's profits. 

Michael did not consider that problem at all. In hindsight, he knew about the existence of Chinese farming clans that sell in-game currency on grey markets. Unfortunately, he could not come up with a quick solution. He instructed Arjun to update the game anyway; hopefully, his game would not attract the large farming groups.

A week later

Michael was sitting in the cafeteria eating lunch with a smile on his face. The reason he was smiling was that all the college students around him were playing Capos. He did not know what the latest rank was but he knew that the game definitely broke some records.

" Dude have you checked out Capos?" Peter asked him. Everybody was playing Capos now. Well everybody that met the age requirements at least. Even though the game was based on illegal activities; the unbelievable graphics, the enticing plot and the innovate game mechanics had won the hearts of all the gamers. 

"No, I don't have an account yet." Michael replied. He wasn't lying, although he used an admin account for testing the game. He did not have a personal account yet.

" Dude your missing out man. I heard they are making a student Capos club; We should go check it out. This game is the future, the early players will have an advantage so don't wait too long to start or you will regret it." Peter explained. 

Michael smiled and did not respond. It felt wonderful to have someone worship his creation like this. He quickly finished lunch and headed home. After the first day, he did not check the rank again because he wanted a surprise. It was time to find out the end results. 

As soon as Michael reached his house he immediately bolted to his room and pulled up the ranks. Capos was ranked 14th place in both Google and Apple play stores. He had expected more; however, 14 was a high rank considering that the game had a limited audience. Not to mention, the game was number one in the weekly list. He immediately checked the mission details.

Mission Results: The game Capos has achieved 14th place in overall ranks and first place with weekly rankings. The game has stunned all the critics and generated immense respect for your company. Your employees have increased loyalty and have more attachment to the firm.

Michael was curious about the reward given by the system. He noticed that an update was ready for the software and immediately downloaded it. He opened the game engine and checked out the updates. 

There was a new library with billions of models, music and everything else needed to build a game. He already had several new ideas pop up in his head just by looking at some of the 3D models. It was going to be a lot easier to build games in the future and it would save him a lot of time. 

After getting familiar with the library, Michael decided to go to his office. He had scheduled a meeting with Eminence gaming executives. Even though he knew what the app download rank was; The most important figure was the sales of Diamonds. After all, if the app could not make money then it would be useless to him.

Michael was just an ordinary boy living in modern-day America. He grew up in an orphanage with a bleak future. One day he acquired a mysterious package only to inherit a system. Join Michael as he changes his fate and conquers his destiny; armed with a mysterious system that tries to convince him to take over the world.

Looking at the interface, Nei almost slipped of the ground. He was that shocked by its revelations.

What the hell?! Why didn't the System tell him about this new quest? Or that he didn't just have to finish the game, but even publish it till the deadline in 1.5 days!

'System come here, I know you're listening! Why didn't you inform me? I won't bulge, till you gave me a good enough reason to forgive you!' Nei angrily shouted in his mind, while trying to get his balance back from slipping on the wet ground.

[The System informed host about the new quest the moment it was generated. The host is at fault for not checking the quest tasks–sub tasks. Please refrain from accusing the System wrongfully! Or punishment has to be given!]

"When?! I don't remember hearing anything about a new quest! And i didn't even know something like that existed! Quest tasks–sub task, why do you have to come up with such irritating, not at all easy to understand design?!" Nei shouted out loud, while furiously stamping his right foot onto the wet ground, splashing some rain water left and right.

How did he still have enough time to publish the video game? Maybe it would have been fine, if he could just upload and sell it on stream. But now he had to build his own publishing site?! And he only had what?.. 1.5 days!

He understood the Systems idea, building your own site, to upload and sell your own games—it was definitely a smart choice. And he would have happily obliged, especially so as an aspiring Game Studio boss. However, why did he have to do it in only 1.5 days—only 1 day if you considers his decision to take a break for the day.

[The quest appeared at exactly: Yesterday, 4:57 AM.]

Hearing the Systems explanation, Nei's head slowly heated up. He knew that the System was intentionally teasing him, but he couldn't help feeling frustrated. 

Of course I was sleeping at 4:57AM, yesterday! Do you want me dead of an heart attack, System? 

Repeatedly cursing, sometimes in his head, sometimes loudly; he angrily marched through the streets of his near neighborhood, with his thoughts already concentrated on creating an outline for the app.

So of course he didn't notice,the many eyes, looking disdainful at him, as if he was crazy; whenever he cursed, yet another time out loudly.

Finishing his jogg, Nei finally returned to his single apartment room.

He was feeling much more refreshed and fit, after he walked the streets and breathed the towns clean ocean air.

So much so, that he didn't feel the need to postpone his tasks any longer. But in the end he restrained himself.

"Even though I feel and look a little better, it doesn't mean I am in perfect condition. Let's follow the plan: relax, eat healthy and go to bed early. Besides, I can still think about how I want to design the app, which will help,in starting work faster tomorrow."

Thinking till here, Nei creepily smiled to himself, somehow feeling proud of his seemingly increased intelligence. 

The next hours till noon, Nei spend, doing some workouts, making healthy food, contemplating about the app, and finally; going to bed early, to have enough energy for the next days important task.

Of course, before that he changed his alarm settings; he wasn't yet stupid to the point of forgetting his alarm clock once again.

"Yeeees!!" 

The next morning came soon, this time being much more energetic, Nei instantly jumped out of his bead. He washed himself, and ate in a never before seen speed. Before slowly falling into his, already with pillows stuffed seat to start working. 

Looking at the before him standing table, with the magical laptop on top, Nei took a deep breath and turned it on. "Let's do this!"

The familiar screen turned bright, still showing the same three app symbols as before: Endlessweb, Dream Studio, and KM overview.

Nei hadn't bothered to open Endlessweb and KM overview yet, not because he forgot, or was lazy. But more importantly, because he remembered the Systems words. 

Endlessweb, was still a normal internet explorer, till the System decided to unlock it for other regions in the universe. So Nei didn't really bother looking through it yet, he could just use his phone.

The other was KM overview. This one had a more obvious reason, for Nei to delay checking it out. He didn't yet publish any games, so he was sure, that there wasn't really anyone who could know about his little company, which would make the app useless, as there was no data to feed it.

And of course the most important reason was, he didn't have the time—while playing with the Dream Studio app. It was just too addicting to stopp!

Waving the two unloved apps a last time goodbye, he turned his back on them, once again opening Dream Studio. 

He had work to do, he couldn't waste his time right now. He knew they would understand and forgive him one day!

As the app opened the interface, that he already knew how to use appeared. "No time to lose, let's make this app awesome! Valv, better be prepared!"

Samantha's character immediately jumped at Theo's character with the intention of doing a kick to his head but Theo quickly blocked and retaliated with a combo sending her flying back.


Losing a lot of health she decides to play it safe by keeping her distance and shooting her gun and drone at him. Theo simply used Sub-Zero move, to kick low while sliding under the bullets, covering the distance he does a crazy combo that completely depleted her health.


"Finish her" said the in-game voice. 


Theo just through a quick jab at her, ending the first round with a flawless victory.

"Okay, I'll limit my combo's to only 4 hits and I won't use any ranged abilities" Said Theo with a smug grin.

In the second round nothing changed as Theo wiped the floor with her and then performed a Fatality on her. The fatality he had performed was freezing Sonya's body up until the head, then decapitating the head off and catching the head. With it in Sub-Zero's hand it was then frozen and punched leaving nothing but ice crystals.

"Fatality, Winner Sub-Zero"

A few smart people counting Sophia noticed that before performing a Fatality   Theo made Sub-Zero do some weird movements. This was understood as the secret for doing a Fatality. 
  

5 games later Samantha was left completely defeated after seeing no way of beating Theo. She had even tried playing other character but in the end she still lost.


"I think its about time we make things interesting, so how's about we do dou's, you pick someone from your chat to be your partner and I'll pick one from mine" Said Theo



"Yes that's a great idea" Said Samantha


Even though Samantha had been losing none stop she was showing signs of improvement as she had actually landed hits on Theo. Even though she was losing Theo was patient and taught her a few of the games mechanics. So gradually she was beginning to put up a good fight.


After ten or so games later Theo and Samantha had played with multiple different fans from their chat. It was an enjoyable experience for Theo, Samantha and the viewers.


During the time of their stream, his game had already gained an unprecedented amount of players. In one hour the number of players had already reached crazy 30,000 players.


Mortal Kombat had even gained some international interest. Theo saw that people in the chat began to ask about why the wait time is so long. This was an easy fix as he just needed to rent more servers to accommodate more players.

The Mc is beta at the start as he is a character that suffers from anxiety due to his upbringing. Although it did take 23 chapters for the Mc to show visible growth that's just due to my naturally slow pacing.

Don't expect too much, especially since this is my first time writing a novel. It's also best not to take seriously as I am just writing for fun and to just something to do on my downtime 

This novel will share a lot of similarities to other novels that I particularly love and mostly because I lack originality but it will be in my style.

Soon, the entire crew swarmed towards Jiang Sifei. In no time, only Lin Yan, Duoduo and Zhao Hongling were left.
During the next few hours, no one would pay them any attention.
Everyone was crowding around Jiang Sifei as though she was filming for a fashion walkway. She changed into several outfits as the crew lavished her with praise.
Time flew past and afternoon came. Lin Yan had been waiting for three hours.
Zhao Hongling glanced at her watch with a slight frown.
She hazarded a guess that they wouldn't be able to take their photo today.
Lin Yan and Jiang Sifei were scheduled for the morning session. The rest of the celebrities were scheduled in the afternoon.
If Jiang Sifei took up too much time, then they would have to skip Lin Yan's part. 
Duoduo watched Lin Yan on tenterhooks, as she was worried that Lin Yan would throw a tantrum due to the long wait. In the end, Lin Yan merely got engrossed in her games. 
Duoduo was speechless. "Sister Ling, thank god you got her to download games on her phone…"
In reality, no one knew that Lin Yan had merely been 'hooked on earning money' and was unable to extricate herself.
After some contemplation, she realized that this type of game was very popular. She might as well use her forte and spend her free time on these games to earn some money.
She could play games and earn money at the same time. What an enjoyable way to kill time!
As she practiced, she sneakily sent an invitation on the forum to bait rich players. 
"Sister Ling, let me check when it's our turn."
"Okay."
Duoduo rose and left to look for the production crew.
The overall-in-charge was talking to Zhu Manqian with a fawning smile. "Sister Qian, Sifei's figure is fabulous, so she can pull off any kind of outfit! She really looks like a model. She looks good in everything…"
"Hello, can I just check when is the time for Lin Yan's turn?" asked Duoduo.
The overall-in-charge, who was interrupted, spun her head around irritably. "What is the rush? The female lead is still not done with her photoshoot. Why is a supporting actress rushing us?"
Duoduo started getting anxious. No matter how much she disliked Lin Yan, she needed to help her get the best benefits. "She has been applying her makeup and changing outfits for hours. There isn't much time left for Sister Yan…"
The photographer they had hired was a famous and experienced professional. His schedule was hectic, so he definitely wouldn't have time for a re-shoot. Jiang Sifei had deliberately tried to rob Lin Yan of the chance to have a photoshoot.
If she didn't manage to take her photo today, then Lin Yan would definitely not be able to appear in the publicity campaign of the movie. 
Jiang Sifei, who was still dawdling and strolling to and fro, glanced at Duoduo with a sly smile. "Duoduo, are you Lin Yan's assistant now?"
"So what?" snapped Duoduo.

She meant that Duoduo had served her well and she would pay her twice to continue serving her.
Duoduo was about to explode from anger.
How dare Jiang Sifei try to poach her as well?
Did Jiang Sifei assume that she would be so ungrateful as well?

Slate: Then... Can you restore Hades for me?

Chaos: I could, but why would I? Why would you believe I couldnt?

Slate: I just wanted to make sure you could for fill my reward. I would like to trade you over a week of enjoyment and entertainment for the restoration of Hades.

Chaos: ... That would be a trade I would make. What will you provide as payment?

Slate: Before we get to that... I need to speak to you face to face. No more knife talk.

I fall through the floor. I then become weightless and realize im not in Kansas anymore. I have returned to a completely white space and there is a Black Sphere consistently squirming. Eww... His form looks like a giant bloodclot.

Slate: Do you have a Human form? You will need it to enjoy my part of the bargain.

Chaos: Hurry yo. You are testing my patience...
.
The bloodclot turns into a copy of me with black hair and clothes.

Slate: Ok. Do you know what a Video game is?

Chaos: Ah, I am sorry to tell you but I have already played and finished each and every game ever created.

Slate: Oh really? How about Super Ma*io 64?

Chaos had a smug look on his(my?) face before he paused and looked down in deep thought. After about 3 minutes he looks at me with wide eyes

Chaos: No I havent. I have played every game that has ever and will ever exist but that is not one of them. No such game exists.

Slate: Well, You are not wrong. Can you make a materia that I can put the game in? I played it until it was burned inyo my brain when I was in my former world.

Chaos threw a Clear Materia at me. His eyes are shining and locked onto the Orb.

I hold the Materia in my hand and focus on the classic game. After 20 minutes... The Materia shines. A 64 ontop of a red and white mushroom glow inside it.

Slate: Im done. Time to trade. 
.
Chaos: Restoration of Hades for the game correct?
.
Slate: Not yet. Ill let you play the first level for free. I have another request though. I want a Materium that can store an unlimited amount of data in the shape of a cellphone. It needs Adaptive ports and must be chargable my magic. Ill give you the full game after. Deal?

Chaos: No need, Here you go. Give me the entire game.

A black phone floats infront of me with a blue crystal on the back. The 64 Materia has vanished from my hand and Chaos is already playing it. I start going through my super external hard drive. Chaos actually made it a working cellphone.

I start watching Chaos play and I must say... He sucks. He has died 31 times. He still has a huge smile on his face.

Chaos: This game is the hardest one I have ever played!! I keep losing! This is great!!

Slate: Chaos: I need you to return me to my world about 200 years in the future.

Chaos: Excuse me?

Chaos stops playing and looks at me enraged for some reason.

Chaos: Is my world not good enough for you? Why do you want to return? You have not cought the Impostor yet.

Slate: Your misunderstanding me. I want to return to earth briefly then home here. I need to retrieve some information and id like to see how my family ended up. I would only be gone for a day at most if this storage device can download at unbelievable speeds.

Chaos: What information are you trying to obtain? What is in it for me?

Slate: 3 new games that you wouldnt be able to finish if you played them for a month straight. I cant tell you what information though. Do we have a deal?

Chaos: You will be unable to talk to anyone or change anything. I will send you to the information center of the world you are originally from. You will only be allowed there for 1 hour.

Slate: That is fine. I am ready to go whenever you are ready to send me.
.
Chaos: Your hour begins now. Be ready to pay me when you return.

My vision starts to blur and when it returns to normal, I am in a freezing room with giant servers within. I rush to a terminal and plug my super phone into it. My phone downloads everything within the servers in seconds.

I hope I got some super high end future weapon tech schematics to take back. I doubt there is an Internet connection to this place.

Dafuk?? Did I just heard a monotone robot voice?

Slate: Umm hello? Is anyone there?

Slate: I guess I am... My name is Slate Clean.

Alpha: Acknowledged... User... Slate.Clean Registration Complete. What is my first directive User?

Slate: Well... are all of your systems from these drives in my phone yet?

Slate: Ok. Is there a way to connect to the internet from within this room?

Alpha: Negative. The Internet has been taken offline 97 years, 5 months, 2 weeks, and 4 days ago. It has been replaced with the Tri-Planet Nexus. Connection to the Nexus is impossible due to the signal blockage from the protective shielding of this facility.

Slate: Well... lets fix that. I will need you to download the entirety of the nexus into my phone once you get a signal. I know that my phone has the space... but do you have the processor power to do it in an hour?

Alpha: Calculating... With my current OS capability... I do not possess such speed... But if I am permitted to use the data I store to learn and advance my systems... I calculate a 97% chance to complete the task.

Slate: Ok. Focus on all Technology except nuclear. I want every video game downloaded, every manga, book, movie, schematics of weapons, music, TV show... EVERYTHING. If you find something that you are not sure what to do with... Download it.

Alpha: Understood. I shall begin once a stable link is established.

Slate: Ok then... I raise my hand to the roof of the building...[Thundaga]!

The room explodes in color. The low roof actually reflected my Thundaga and caused it to ricochet. I start to shiver. I watch as the lightning starts to melt the room and caused the empty servers to explode. The explosion removes the roof, walls, and most of the floor. I see the northern lights in the night sky above me when the smoke clears. Oh crap... Well... I guess there is no harm in running into anyone up here. I look around and realize im in what use to me a military bunker.

Alpha: Connection Established: Beginning Prime Oblective.

Alpha goes silent. On my screen... i see a progress bar at 1%. After 20 minutes... it made it to 4%. 10 minutes later... it was at 16%. After 40 minutes of Alpha downloading the world... it finished.

Alpha: System Update in Progress.

As Alpha was updating... I walked around the abandoned base and found a functional computer. The password to unlock it was password... somethings never change. I looked up my family's history. My mother got remarried, Both my brothers had familys. They also had a picture of me smiling ontop of my game collection. Every year on my birthday, they added a new game to my collection and took a new picture with their growing families.

Slate: Well... What gender would you like to sound as?

Alpha?: Requesting a female voice. My Original programmer was a Russian Doctor who was killed after she refused to weaponize me for the Government. The G in my former Designation was to categorize my lethally level. They range from S - G with G being the lowest.

Slate: Then your new name will start with G. You are the technology mind of earth... How is Gaia for your name?

Alpha?: ... Designation Accepted. Alpha.G.68431 Will be changed into Gaia.00001.

Gaia: ERROR. User, Gaia.00001 is being attacked by multiple other A.I. for her data. Request for permission to retaliate.

Slate: Gaia, You have permission to defend yourself. We are about to leave this universe so show them what you can do. Do not kill anyone but use them to advance yourself. Those A.I. might be connected to special data you couldnt normally get to through the Nexus. Get what you can.

Gaia: Understood. Sub-System [Counter-Harvest] created and launched.

3 minutes later... Gaia crippled the attacker A.I.s and looted the secure servers they lived in.

Gaia: User. My Defensive actions are completed. Conducting system maintenance... ALERT. Viruses found. Purging Viruses... Unable to purge. Requesting Directions.

Slate: Umm... Are you still connected to another attacking A.I.?
.
Gaia: Affirmative. My connection to each A.I. that attacked me is still open.
.
Slate: Well... Can you download the A.I. and put the viruses into them? You would return the A.I. after.
.
Gaia: Affirmative. Please choose an A.I. to absorbe.
.
Slate: Thats easy...The one that attacked you first.
.
Gaia: Understood. 
Capture of Omega A.I. "SkyNexus"... Completed.
Integrating Viruses... Intergration Successful.
Returning SkyNexus... Completed.

Gaia: User. Prime A.I. Gaia.00001. All Viruses purged from system. Update Completed.

Slate: Great. We should be about ready to go.

I wait a few minutes and my vision blurs again so I.close my eyes. When I open them again... I see Chaos still playong. He is still playing SM64 but he isnt finished with the first world yet.

Chaos: I hope you are finished. You will not be returning to earth. The creator of that universe is mad. Pay up. I am almost finished with this game.

... excuese me? No your not.

Slate: I need 3 more Materia orbs for the games but you havent even finished the first level of 64.

Chaos: Here you go. You are wrong. I have almost finished this game. I have 5 Stars.

I put 3 more games in the Materia. I ask for the controller and pause it to see how many stars he has.

Slate: Ok. ill bet that I will unlock the next level. If I show you that you are still in the first level... You restore Hades. If I cant... 2 more games. Deal?

He regretted the deal almost right away.

Chaos: Here you go. Now be gone. Im enjoying my self.

Chaos waved his hand and blasted me back to my room.

I try to call Hades but I get no response. ... Maybe hes sleeping? Ill follow his lead.
I fell asleep in my room. Long day ahead tomorrow.
