Hello! 

Really sorry for vanishing for two months without any prior notice. I could have dropped a notice or something,  but honestly, I never expected to be gone for so long. 

Truthfully, I believe actions speak louder than words and excuses are useless. But I would still like to apologize and just give a brief summary of what happened. 

Some of you  might have seen me online complaining or criticising books,  so it was nothing major,  but just time consuming. Due to a sudden Order,  I had to join in and help my parents in our family business. That took majority of my time,  and that's why I was rarely online during April and May. 

After that it was job rush. I am planning for MBA in the future,  but it requires about a minimum 2-3 years work experience.  Along with that,  my current resume has nothing but my bachelor's degree. Which is bad. So searching for skill sets to add,  jobs to try for,  the continuous interviews... it's been a busy June.  In between all this,  I completely forgot about the novel. ( I am sorry! ) 

I would just log in for few minutes every once in a while to catch up,  mostly while travelling or waiting. Writing a chapter requires anything between half an hour to few hours,  depending on my mood,  inspiration and what not. So, writing was not possible. I hate writing in batches,  as I always go back and start rewriting,  editing, and changing the story to make it feel better. Although the end result has won me prizes before,  it takes a long time. And many times I have dropped story's just because of this. So I write in a single sitting,  or almost two or three sittings. Which is... sorry... was currently,  impossible with my travelling schedule... and inherent laziness. 

Anyway, the story itself has not been planned. I have a brief outline and I am just adding on it. Like three months later,  I am feeling that I should have added a Dumbledore Chapter,  along with the abandonment issue,  before the French Chapter. 

I am learning. So just point out my mistakes,  and I would do my best to correct them. 

It was only yesterday,  when I saw the HPFF notice on Qidian,  that I recalled the novel. ( Yeah,  I have a shitty memory.) I still haven't read the notice yet. 😅

So yes. The story has not been dropped. I would be posting a chapter today or by tomorrow. The schedule is still undecided,  as I am also preparing for my Entrance Exams.

Harry Potter is born three years earlier and that changes everything. Being cast aside for his younger brother who is The Boy Who Lived,  he is thrown to the Dursleys. Fortunately,  he's saved by his Grandparents and this proves to be the turning point. Learning that strength is everything he starts  his journey to become something more than just a wizard.

The line felt like an eternity. Well, it's not like it matters because I'm just a soul right now, not experiencing any pain or whatsoever. But still, you get my point.

I don't know how I died, but I'm dead, and that's for sure. I don't know what place this is, but another thing I'm sure about is that time doesn't exist here. Or maybe, as a science believer, I can say that a millennium here is equivalent to about a millisecond in the living dimension. In short, it came to the point where you can practically ignore it.

It came to the point where the flow of time was significantly insignificant here.

I also don't know why I'm here. I mean, okay, I'm dead, I'm just a measly soul, but can't I just go straight to paradise or chaos, wherever may my soul belong?


Putting those worries aside, I feel like we aren't moving forward at all. Are the humans way too much in number that even in the afterlife, it's way too crowded? This thought can only get a sigh from anyone.

Come on, people. Control, we need to control ourselves! Stop that plok plok and have another hobby, demmit!


Okay, I need to calm down. Seriously, even in my afterlife, I'm still as short-tempered as ever in useless things.


Finally, my turn came. The door was nothing impressive, and can only make one person at a time pass. The guard wore something like a robe. No, it was more like a hoodie or something, but he just looked like a guard. Like a typical frail-looking guy you know you'll never want to mess with.


"Job... UpDown" is all the guard at the door said.


"I'm sorry, what?"


Job and UpDown? What does that mean?


"Job... UpDown," he repeated. It made me more confused, but I can see he had no intention of saying anything other than that.

But job or UpDown... Does UpDown mean THE two places where souls go?

I asked the guard about it, and he nodded. Well, as much as I want to choose the UpDown, my gut was telling me that I should choose the former, even though I have no clue what that is.


"Job." I decisively said. The guard nodded once more, and he touched my left shoulder, making me glow like a sun.


"Uhmm... what's happening?"

Without answering my question, the guard smiled and nodded once again. He then said, "Choose one." before my eyes were covered with light.


As the light engulfed my whole being, I thought this is either the worst or best decision I've ever made in my life. I mean, in my death. Or afterlife? This is so embarrassing, I wish I can kill myself. Wait, I'm dead.

Seriously, what the heck? Anyway, you get my point.

When my vision cleared, a screen was floating in front of me. It was a list of every single job there is in the world. 

As I scrolled down, there were many odd jobs such as dog food taster, and professional sleeper listed. For unknown reasons, they were already crossed out.

Popular jobs such as engineering, nursing, and teaching were also crossed out. As dumb as I am, I clicked on "Physician" only to receive an obvious notice.

"THIS JOB IS TAKEN."

Well, it was worth the try.

I clicked the 'jump to the top' button at the lower right corner on the screen. This time, I read everything thoroughly and noticed that the list started with Abattoir something then ended with Zoologist.

"Is Zumba Instructing not a job?" I thought out loud. The screen suddenly lit up, making me involuntarily close my eyes. When it returned to normal, there was already 'Zumba Instructor' listed at the very bottom.

Uhmm... okay?

It was quite a weird experience but I let it pass since I have yet to choose a job. I immediately looked for my dream job, writing, but almost every writing job was taken except for one.

Writer. 

It made me wonder why those who were before me chose the other writing jobs but I immediately was able to answer my question. Being a 'writer' was way too general, you never know what you will need to write next.

I mean, wouldn't it be more exciting not to know what'll happen next? Or is it just me? 

Probably just me. Anyway, I clicked 'Writer'. 

A notice showed up again, "YOU HAVE CHOSEN A JOB."

After that, the screen disappeared in front of my eyes, replaced by a computer. I was now inside a cubicle, sitting on a swivel chair. Normally, I would've asked myself what the heck was happening but for obvious reasons, I felt completely normal, not even a bit surprised.

Right in front of me was a paper with organizational markers and a pile of sticky notes. On my right was a half-whiteboard and half-bulletin board equipped with pins and whiteboard markers. To my right was a blank wall, probably for the post-its. 

This was how I came to have this job - the start of my career as a writer.

Well then, what should be my first title?

We all live, we all die. But have you ever wondered what really happens after we die?

I thought my end would be either at those two places but a dimension where time does not exist, existed.

In here, we all have one job. One can clean anything, another can teach anything. And mine?

Well, I can write anything. Even things I never knew in my whole lifetime, I can write about it.

I never knew what love is. I never knew what it feels to be loved or to love.

Will a pen really be enough to know? Should I write about the thing called "love"?

Is love that shallow?

I don't think so.

"Hello! My name is Lisa! What is yours?" Asked an eight year old Lisa.
"Sophie", replied the eight year old Sophie.
"Why are you alone? Why are you not playing with everyone else?" Asked Lisa.
"They're loud".

Lisa giggled then asked, "am I loud?"
"Yes. Please leave me alone", replied Sophie coldly.
"That's boring. What are you drawing?"
"Roses".
"Wow, they're so pretty. You're a good drawer", smiled Lisa.
"Thanks".
"Can you draw lilies?" 
"I haven't tried drawing lilies before but I can try".

Sophie then flipped to a new page in her sketch book and started to draw some lilies. Once she had finished Lisa gasped then said, "you're an amazing drawer!"
"Of course I am. I have been drawing since I was a baby", said Sophie with high confidence.
Lisa giggled again and said, "and I have been reading since I was a baby too".

Lisa then ran to her bag and got out a thick chapter book aimed towards young adults. Sophie just showed a shocked face and said, "you can read a book like that!"
"Yes. Is something wrong?" Asked Lisa.
'Who is she?' Thought Sophie. "Do you know what you are reading about?" Asked Sophie.
"Yes. It's about a girl who travels through time and meets all these important people from the past. It's a really good book you should read it too", answered Lisa.
'No normal eight year old can read that!' Thought Sophie while showing an incredulous look.
"Lisa, your grandparents are here to pick you up for your appointment", said the teacher.
"Lisa there you are!" Said Nathaniel McMillan as he hugged Lisa.

As Sophie watched Lisa talk with her grandmother while they waited for her grandfather to finish something, Sophie realised Lisa was using much more advanced words which Sophie had no idea what they meant. 'Who is she! If I read books like those can I use those words like her?' Thought Sophie as she watched with shock.

Because of this Sophie started reading more and Lisa and her created a great friendship while drawing and reading.

Anyway back to their eight year old days.

"Guys Sophie actually came out to play!" Shouted Jackson.
"I thought she died", said one of the other kids.

The kids started to laugh out loud as Sophie clenched her fists then said, "at least I have talent".
"Hey you-".
"Come on it's the truth", said Jackson while playfully punching the other kid.
"Hey are you saying I don't have talent!"
"Yep", smiled Jackson.

As Sophie watched Jackson interact with others friendly and have fun, she felt longing then while they were deciding who was going to be the tagger in a game of tag, Sophie asked, "can I join?"
"Sure!" Smiled Jackson.

While they were playing Sophie then remembered Jackson was the kid who could sing really well. He had actually beaten the year 8s (12 year olds) in the school's singing competition. 'Who are these people! I really need to get good at art if I want to be on the same level as them! I might not be able to sing but I might be able to be friendly like Jackson if I work hard. Then I can get on the same level as Lisa and Jackson! Those overpowered people. A freaking genius and an unreal singer! Mummy why couldn't you make me like them', thought Sophie.

[AN: Poor Sophie. Well hey she got what she wished for in the end so]

Sophie started getting art lessons, she started studying and by the time she had cached up with them, Jackson started singing publicly and Lisa started helping her dad's company.

'Why is it always me?!' Thought a 12 year old Sophie. She then decided to start uploading her artwork online. Later on when she had gained more popularity she started selling them.

The 14 year old Sophie showed a victory smile as she received one of the best awards you can get for her art. 'We are finally on the same level', thought Sophie triumphantly.

-When Jackson and Lisa was seven years old-

Since it was a sunny day little Lisa decided to wander around the school and stumbled onto a secluded area. Since it was shady there Lisa took off her sunhat and thought, 'this could be my new hangout place. I can come here if I forget my hat and can read peacefully'.

[AN: No hat no play... In NZ most primary schools make it so you have to wear a hat in terms 1 and 4]

Lisa returned there the next day because her mother had put her hair into a bun so she couldn't wear her sunhat properly. However when Lisa had got there a boy was there instead. He was singing beautifully to a song Lisa remembered hearing on the radio.

The secluded place was near out of bounds and was far from the playgrounds or anything interesting, so no one was nearby except for Lisa.

When the boy stopped singing Lisa clapped her hands and said, "that was awesome! You have a great voice!"
The boy turned around and turned bright red. "Y-you heard m-me?"
"Yeah. You're really good at singing", replied Lisa.
"Thank you", said Jackson.
"Why are you singing here?"
"... Because I want to".
"Are you sure? Is it because you didn't want anyone to hear you?"
Jackson turned bright red and Lisa said, "you shouldn't be shy or embarrassed about your singing. It is amazing! You should show everyone your voice!"
"Really?"
"Yeah!"
"I don't know..."
"I have an idea. How about for now why don't you practice in front of me and later we can show it to everyone else".
"Okay!"

Jackson then started singing. His dream since he was young had always been singing. He loved hearing and singing with his grandmother who he was really close with, but when he was four years old his grandmother had passed away. To cope with it and to remember her he sang, it made him happy. He loved to perform in front of his family but when it came to his classmates he was incredibly shy, so he was dubbed the 'Shy Kid'. However inside behind his shy exterior he was outgoing and loved to perform, but he was scared his classmates would judge him.

When the next day had come Lisa secretly brought along her mum's phone. Christine was incredibly confused when Lisa had asked for it in the morning, but she still gave it to her since she trusted her intelligent daughter.

When Jackson started singing, Lisa secretly recorded it and the next morning she played it out loud; surprising her classmates. "Wow is that really Jackson?" Asked a girl.
"Yep! He's really good at singing but he's just shy!" Answered Lisa.

While Lisa was saying that Jackson had entered the classroom to be bombarded by his classmates. 

Later on Jackson got rid of his shy exterior and everyone in his class knew him as the really friendly and awesome singer.

One year after that a singing competition was coming up in the school. Everyone told him to participate, but Jackson still wasn't sure about performing towards a large crowd.

"Lisa should I go?" Asked Jackson.
"You should definitely participate. Everyone in the audience will think you're spectacular", said Lisa while her nose was buried in a book.
"What?"
Lisa closed her book then said, "let's write a song".
"What?!" Shouted Jackson.
"You want to be a professional singer in the future right? Why not start practicing now".
"I can't write songs though".
"I can help you out. Come one let's go to our secret hangout and start writing".

Henceforth they started writing, and once the day of the competition came.... Lisa decided to blindfold Jackson since he was still way too nervous to go on stage.

"K-kia ora e-everyone...", said Jackson.

{Kia ora = hello in te reo, one of the official NZ languages} 

While he was introducing himself, Lisa signaled the class and they all shouted their support for Jackson. When he heard his classmates support he felt more confident.

"My name is Jackson, and I am from class xx. Today I will be singing a sing I wrote with my friend", said Jackson as he prepared himself.

When he started singing he gained more confidence when he had heard the cheers, so much to the point when he took off the blindfold, and he was immediately filled up with (too much) energy. He sang and did some cute moves and ended up winning the competition. 

While the older competitors doubted their capability to sing, Jackson's smile beamed as he heard all the compliments. He started performing more, and now he's performing in stadiums so hey he succeeded.

-Before attending WRC, at the Tael's home-

"I still can't believe you got Jackson to go up on stage with a blindfold. What if he had fell or tripped over something", said Sophie.
"If it works it works. He just had to be smart enough to not walk around on stage while wearing a blindfold", replied Lisa.
"Lisa are you going to write a new song for me or what? All you have been doing is talking and reading", whined Jackson.
"Nothing is coming to my head", answered Lisa.
"That's what you always say, but you have a million ideas in your head but you're too lazy to think of lyrics to go with them!" Shouted Jackson.
"Stop shouting in my house. Fine then let's start then Jay".

'Jackson is still loud and Lisa is still her... Meh, let's just finish painting so I can relax for a few more days otherwise my agent will bug me again', thought Sophie as she continued to paint away.  

-Present day-

It was Monday morning, 5 am and Lisa was writing lyrics for Jackson's new song. The albums's theme was time so there were songs with the theme of travelling through time, not caring about the time and continuing to have fun, blah blah blah.

Lisa was thinking of making the song she was writing a love one, so she decided to make the song about how a relationship has grown throughout time.

"Let's see, what should the first verse be..."

Lisa then got out the audio Jackson wanted her to write the lyrics to. She put on her earphones and listened to the melody which was quite upbeat at the chorus, but more calm during the verses and slow at the bridge. 

After a while of thinking Lisa could only come up with,

"Won't you look at that
So much we've done, so much we've been through 
But we're still hanging close 
First time we met, never thought that
It would end up like this
Oh look at how the time has flown by
Just like how you've flied high
While I'm holdin your hand, never saying goodbye".

'Ugh I can't think of anything else. Oh well I'll just think of something else and change it later', thought Lisa as she tossed her song book onto her bookshelf.

She went onto her insta account to be flooded with notifications. 'What in the world has been going on while I've been asleep?' Thought Lisa.

When she saw what it was she felt like screaming and throwing her phone out the window.  'Crap, why did I let Edward do that yesterday?! Now there's pictures online and it's absolute chaos! For goodness sake people Edward and I aren't dating', thought Lisa.

Lisa immediately called Edward for him to pick it up in a tired voice. "Hello", said Edward.
"Edward wake up and look online", said Lisa.

Edward was full of energy and fear when he had heard Lisa. 'Don't tell me something happened last night', thought Edward as he looked online.

When he saw the pictures he realised he shouldn't have acted like a baby with Lisa when in public. He then quickly said, "Lisa... What should we do? These pictures make us look way too suspicious".
"Well duh. You do realise how much trouble I'm in though. While majority ship us, there are still some crazy fans of yours who will not like this. Remember that time one fan asked you to sign a book with their blood?! I'm too young to die!"
"Calm down Lisa it's still morning. I can get someone to look after you-".
"I don't need a nanny or security guard or something like that. We just need to find a good solution to this".
"Well either way there is no doubt we look like a couple with these photos. If we deny them people might think we're in a secret relationship, and in the end some jealous fans will attack you no matter what, even if everything is cleared".
"For f*** sake. I can't think of anything except for making it seem like as if we're having a secret relationship, but it's a secret because we're scared I might get attacked for being your girlfriend and it's super sad for us. Making it so others pity us and take care of the crazy fans. However if we were to go with that plan we would have to have a fake relationship".
"What's wrong with that?"
"Huh?"
"Let's just have a pretend relationship then. We're both good at acting so I'm sure we could pull this off. Plus it could make us going to the company less suspicious since it makes us look like as if we're helping our family together, because we're good kids and a couple. Less rumors and trouble".
"... I don't know".
"We already spend a lot of time together".
"... Let's try it for now then. Make it seem like as if we're trying to hide our relationship and see how it goes".
"Got it, bye then".
"...Bye".

Edward smiled triumphantly at the sudden surprise thrown at him while Lisa buried her head in a pillow. 'A fake relationship with Edward... Why am I happy and annoyed at the same time? It couldn't be.... Could it?' Thought Lisa.

"Ugh".

To distract herself Lisa continued to write the new chapter for her webnovel. Tyler was currently on trial as his status as a Storyteller was close to being revoked. However Stacy stormed in and turned the tables and persuaded the judges to let Tyler continue and that he would learn and grow. After all he was still new and that was his first job. Stacy also said that the story wasn't over yet and that it was just the beginning. What had happened before was just the baby story which is allowed. 

Some Storytellers go to extra lengths and create a baby story, where they cultivate the main character's abilities, so it is ready for the main story. A baby story is where the main character first start out, then go on a mini story/adventure to cultivate their abilities while going through many trials and learn new things. This is to prepare for the main story where the main character already knows a lot and has already had a lot of experience. The plot in the main story is much deeper and intricate than one from a baby story

It is time consuming though, and incredibly difficult since after creating a baby story, the Storyteller must make the main story more detailed and intricate (how much of this depends on the genre of the story they are creating). They must also make the baby story not too simple and not too deep, since the baby story cannot outshine the main story, and the main story can not look like a sequel/second story after the baby story. 

The baby story can not be too simple since it shows the beginnings of the main character and how they have grown in power. It must also show what the main character has been through in order to get to the stage they are in, in the main story.

Those are the rules in the Storyteller world. Due to it only elite Storytellers create baby stories, however since Stacy wanted to keep things simple and Tyler wanted to make things more intricate, they ended up creating a baby story.

So in the end Tyler was able to keep his job and they got back to work.

Lisa patted herself on the back at her work, to then realised she had written more than usual. Oh well an extra treat for the readers. 

However Lisa decided that in the story it was time to add in some extra Storytellers and show the other light and dark jobs there are, so Lisa decided to make it so Stacy and Tyler waited in the Main World for two years to have passed in the Story World for there to be a gap between the baby story and main story. Meaning they would have 24 days in the main world to plan for the main story, along with getting readers to know more of the way things work in the Main World.

While it was risky Lisa decided to include parts of her life into her webnovel for this part, since it was interesting. She would just have to change quite a bit.

Meanwhile Edward was having breakfast and for once his whole family was at the dining table. Edward talked about his and Lisa's plan which created an ecstatic mother, a father with bright eyes and a worried brother. He didn't want to be killed by Charles.

Before leaving to school Lisa informed her family of what was going on, then she made her way to school, and prepared herself. However for some reason she felt excited to see Edward and act with him. Her heart was pounding harder than usual, and Lisa knew why. She didn't feel ready for a relationship though, but at the same time she really wanted one.

15 year old Lisa Tael has a dream of becoming an author so she uploads webnovels online, in the hopes of getting a book published. 

In order for a good record, to get connections, a good education and a bit of drama, she gets a scholarship to a prestigious school where she meets all kinds of people, including geniuses, rich brats, the next CEO of a company, artists, allies and enemies.

Not only does she like to write stories online she also likes to make drama/stories in real life by creating troubles, then solutions and watching from the sidelines. However sometimes she can't help but show herself.

This attracts the attention of Edward Avington, a popular, rich author who happens to be Lisa's rival, tutor and friend? Only some knows what he's thinking, but he sure is thinking of someone. They work together and help each other out by exchanging information and knowledge. 

Anyway as Lisa ventures further into her school life things become more interesting and hectic as she tries to become a published author, become number 1 in intellect at her school, and create interesting stories at the same time while also involving herself in a lot of business along with participating in things she thought would never happen. 

However her family hides a secret from her, many things happen behind her back, and when it is all revealed...

Well what's going to happen? Will she succeed or will she fail? Will she be angry or happy when the truth is revealed, and will she fall in love with Edward? Only the author knows what's going to happen next.

(Contains swearing and violence, not that much when the main character is 15, arc 1, but a lot when she is 16, arc 2)

Forgetfully, he played around with it for an entire morning. During the process of dubbing, Meng Fan also tried to control the appeal of his voice the same way he controlled his smile appeal in addition to controlling his sound. Simply put, it was how much emotion he was putting in. To put it in a more complicated manner, he was controlling the density of energy that was being put in. 　
Meng Fan's original voice was average. The increased singing skill brought a wider vocal range, better tone, and sound quality in his voice. Even if he wasn't completely stage-ready, his voice was very charming. If he spoke seriously, his emotions could be felt heartily. These four voice actors were not only incredible and trusted by the crew, but they also reflected the scarcity of Chinese voice actors.

 The Glitter Twins – also known as John and Jim Robinson – grinned at me from inside their Italian suits. They were very big on corporate fun; their vaudeville cross-talk routine was developed because of this overwhelming desire to please everyone and everybody. Once, they'd even brought an ukulele to a presentation, and attempted to perform a proposed advertising jingle in front of a roomful of suits; that was when people started calling them the Glitter Twins. The clients loved them. Everybody else hated them. Well, not everybody else; they were account directors now, and rumor had it that before long they would be anointed as account group directors.

"I can't come, guys," I told them. "Donna has a company Christmas thing too tonight, and someone's got to take care of the baby."
"Ah, the baby."
"Oh, baby, baby."
"Oh, baby, baby, bay."

 They got up, strumming imaginary guitars and grinning wider than ever. Jim or John (I couldn't tell them apart) slipped out of my office. John or Jim made as if to leave, then stopped, turned to me.

"Try to come, Oscar," he said softly. "It would be good if you came." He looked serious for a brief moment; then he rearranged his features into the usual mask, and left.

 So: you know my name is Oscar, Oscar Hansen. I'm an advertising art director. I wanted to be a painter, but I became an advertising art director because I had to make a living, like everyone else. Painters who actually paint usually can't make a living, and only a very few can make art.

 I'm thirty two years old, married to a Donna. Her name is Donna, and she is a Donna. She has long black hair, big sad dark eyes, and a wide red mouth; she is suitably willowy, though not very tall. "Joe," I said, when he came on the line, "Can you do the usual?"
"I got twenty assholes waiting for cabs," he said.
"Well I want a cab too."
"Asshole." He hung up.

 I hung up too, got up, and went to the can with a slow, deliberate step. On the way I caught a glimpse of the Glitter Twins. They were knocking on an open door, grinning at each other. The door belonged to the office that belonged to my partner, Tad. Tad had once wanted to be a writer, but he became a copywriter because he had to make a living, and – as he confided to me one beer-sodden evening – he couldn't make art. We got on together famously, me and Tad. We talked only when it was absolutely necessary because of the job, and gave each other maximum slack.

 The company can was just around the corner from my office, and mercifully it was empty. I combed my hair twice, inspected my teeth, and ran a quick scan of things in general. And then, probably because I was in the can – there's something about the place that invites introspection and reflection – I started thinking about me and Donna. Things weren't well there. They weren't simple, either. They never are when there's guilt on both sides.

 I spent two more minutes in the can, repeatedly glancing at my watch. Then I walked out and took the long route back to my room, past the main secretarial desk. The secretary – the constantly smiling Paula Johnson – wasn't there. She smiled at everyone as often as she possibly could, and possibly she had a good reason; rumour had it she was snitching for Schutz, the managing director of our ad agency. I made a long detour so that I could walk past Daphne, our red-haired receptionist, in a seemingly preoccupied and professional manner.

"Oscar," she sang out, thanks God, and waved a pink slip at me. I unrolled it, looked, frowned.
"My daughter's sick again," I told Daphne.
"Your little daughter."
"My little daughter, oh yes. Very little."
 She grimaced and bent over her log, her spybook. I noticed a little pile of what looked like cab slips next to her elbow.
"Are these –?"
"Oh yes. It's for the party tonight. Don't drink and drive."
"Absolutely," I said, reaching out.

 The street was speckled with Christmas lights and decorations that became gaudier with every minute, as the day died. I inhaled the cold, clammy air; solitary snowflakes fell heavily onto the pavement and onto my shoulders. A smudge of orange intruded from the left – Rapid Taxi. Good old Joe. If you know a good old Joe, life is so much easier.

 I settled down in the smelly, creaky interior and gave the appropriate directions. I have a car – or rather we have a car, me and Donna. We share it – I usually get it two days in a week (the exact days differ). Life is nice then, because our car is a big BMW. Things are quite pleasant even when I'm stuck in the morning traffic jam, with a steaming styrofoam-cupped coffee clipped to the dash and a guy doing his best to entertain me on the radio. The other three days a week are hell. We live as close to the suburbs as you can without actually living in the suburbs. Getting to work involves a bus and a fucking train. A lot of the perfumed people I meet therein don't wash in the morning. There are legions of the unwashed in my city, even though it deems itself a world-class city, and the area I live in – an upscale, world-class area. It must be that the world is unwashed, as a whole.

 But now I was riding along in a cab, and the company was paying for the long ride. I enjoyed the approaching headlights slashing across the windscreen, lighting up the thickening snow; I even got used to the smell. It wasn't a dirty smell, but –
"Nice smell you've got in the cab," I said. "Air freshener?"
"And Mister Clean." He guffawed and bent over the wheel.
"What?"
"Mr. Clean. You know." He paused to negotiate an intersection with sure, flat slaps of the steering wheel. "Hope you don't mind my telling you this," he said, "But a guy threw up all over the back seat earlier today. Started the party early. But I scrubbed everything real careful with Mister Clean. Including the cracks, heh-heh." I wished I knew how to levitate.
"It's very important to wash in the cracks," I said.
"Yah. Heh-heh."

 The driveway was marked by fresh tracks, squeezed black into the thin, melting snow. A light was on upstairs. I tipped the honest driver and weaved along the flagstones to the front door. I don't like this weaving path. I used to cut across on a regular basis, but Donna forbade this. She cares about the grass.

 The house still smelled faintly of paint and synthetic carpet, and it was empty. I knew that without trudging up the staircase, without removing my shoes. I took them off anyway, shed my jacket, and got rid of the fucking tie. I soft-socked it to the booze cupboard and poured a drink. After a while, I poured another. Donna was still absent. She was in her world, a world of professionals dealing with failed love. Donna is a very good divorce lawyer. She specializes in getting minimal settlements for guilty husbands. A long time ago, when I still had my very own Mustang, I drove round to someone else's cheap, ground level law office and watched Donna work.

 I stood half-hidden behind a street lamp post, feeling like an idiot; the blinds in the window were up, but a cleverly placed potted cactus obscured the face of her client. I got a good look at Donna, though. Her hair was pulled back in a severe bun; her wide mouth was pursed in solemn concern. Her hand held a pen as if it was a scalpel, the paper beneath – an unsuspecting body. I understood then how she got wronged, furious women to shrink their claims. She'd say yes, he's wrong and you're right, but being right carries a price too. They'd look at her and agree, as they had to.

 Donna owns everything; I don't own a damn. My money pays for the bills – we have an ever-increasing amount of ever-growing bills – and the weekend shopping sprees at the local plaza (very upscale: a fountain masquerading as a waterfall, tons of plants in ceramic tubs, guys and gals in fancy dress smiling as if their life depended on it - maybe it does - while pushing assorted flyers and leaflets into your hands; donation boxes for at least three different charities on each checkout counter; and let's not forget the string quartet serenading the shoppers - two  string quartets and a choir at Christmas. In short, everything one can think of to make the act of spending money - consuming - a moral experience).

 When Donna and I moved in together, I covered rent, the car, and entertainment, and she got the groceries and the bills. Now it's the other way around, and she goes to Christmas parties without waiting for me to tell her I'm not going to mine. You might say I've got plenty of material for deep thinking sessions in the office can.

 We'd met at a Christmas party, several years earlier. It wasn't a corporate get-together, but a friendly booze-up thrown by my neighbours, a married couple who were increasingly worried by my single state. Donna was invited to meet me and another unmarried holdout, a rich real estate agent called Frank Mahoney. Frank Mahoney habitually has tufts of hair sticking out of his nose, a pot belly, and a beery laugh, while I, as John and Jim Robinson have observed, I am a Nordic god. Donna looked like a Barbarian princess in artistically torn suede and net stockings; we hit it off at once, while Frank pensively dipped his nosehair in large glasses of whisky.

 Donna and I got married on a rainy May day; her Hispanic aunt observed, mystically, that rain on a wedding day meant plenty of married good luck. I changed jobs for a 50% raise three months later. In September we bought a house in a new housing development. The developer had used a talented architect, and the house – a two-storey affair of grey brick, black slates, and white window frames – looked good inside and out. I didn't like the synthetic bluish-grey carpeting everywhere, but Donna did, and she was totally won over by the Italian kitchen. She thought she'd be doing a lot of cooking, just two years back. But our married good luck continued unabated – she got promoted, changed jobs, got promoted again, and now she was working eighty hour weeks and pulling in well over a hundred grand a year. You can't deal with cooking when you make money like that.

 It was good she did. My own job situation was - let's call it insecure. They were firing people left, right, and centre in all the ad agencies in the city. I'd heard that S&S Unlimited bodybagged six media and four creative people just the other week. And you could feel it, you could feel it every day, cruising down the corridor – there would be this waft of cold air on your neck in spite of all the expensive air-conditioning, and if you looked quickly enough you'd see a door closing, a shadow disappearing around a corner, someone quickly averting their eyes.

 Night had fallen; the pool of light from the standing lamp turned a bright yellow. I stopped pacing around the room and went upstairs for a long shower. I caught a whiff of perfume when I entered the bathroom. There was a thin trail of talcum powder near the basin's pedestal, and a few drops of hairspray frozen in the corner of the mirror. I felt a tug of jealousy at the thought of Donna making herself pretty for other people and squinted at my reflection, suddenly ashamed of my thoughts, my nakedness, and at the way things were going with me and Donna. She had written me a couple of love notes on the mirror soon after we'd started living together. I should have felt happy, but instead I felt embarrassed. To start with, I'm uncomfortable with the mirror: I know the man inside is no Nordic god. Also, the very thought of my writing a note like that practically made me gag. I regretted feeling that way, and actually forced myself to think about writing Donna back, so to speak. But I couldn't very well use lipstick, and once I started thinking about writing materials (shaving foam? No, it would run. Soapy finger? No, it would simply look as if the mirror was dirty) the whole thing ceased to have anything in common with love, etcetera, and became like art-directing an ad. So I dropped it and became embarrassed instead, and eventually Donna became embarrassed too, and there were no more love notes.

 I took a very short shower and went to the bedroom to dress in something comfortable, and found the kind of note Donna and I wrote each other nowadays. She'd gone to her Christmas party; she hoped I'd enjoy mine.
 I reached for the phone.
"Joe," I said, when he came on the line, "I need a cab."

I'm actually a little doubtful there are people still here now... I mean, there's only two Original Works I even want to work on: Those being this and An Adventure Beyond Greatness! ...Though I feel kinda unmotivated when I'm writing by myself and there's no one to talk to. Life's empty these days...

There are times I'm motivated by 'Hey, there might be a comment the next time I post' and then I just wait for it, feel satisfied once I see it, then go write the next chapter because I feel some worth in spending my time writing a story for readers.

I've also tried working on a Gaiaverse RP Amino that has three works as it's foundation (Battlefield Restart, An Adventure Beyond Greatness, and An Identity Beyond Self, that are basically three different variants of Isekai) but don't have any experience in Role-Playing so I don't know how to write the Guidelines. I already made plans to write a fictional universe like the Gaiaverse but there's too little things I am able to do for it right now...

A lot of IRL stuff have been weighing down on my mind recently. I'm not sure if I should be following the trends online to grab readers or just do as I want... Ah, I'm jealous of those who do as they want and don't question it like the characters I create. And also feeling inferior to actual authors...

Anyway, I find myself a better critic rather than writing my own works thanks to my very nitpicking nature acting up whenever I see a good story that only needs some improvements. There are those who I've seen give 'feedback' on stories online but why do I feel they miss the point of being a critic?

I've went around A LOT of websites that have to do with writing and in the end, I found there was one big example of what I mean on closer than I thought Discord. There was a chapter that ticked all my boxes and made me interested as a reader on top of it about its plot but in the end of the day all I saw was a 'feedback' telling this good writer that they 'made a mistake by not explaining the core conflicts and character's personality in-depth'.

This critique really made my head turn as I couldn't understand how they missed the point of the chapter as well as how 'not giving information that isn't needed right now' adds an air of mystique.

I mean, there's a difference between 'narrating' for your audience and 'telling them the details'. The former layers a story with emotions while the latter only make them this 'yep, this is happening now'.

After all, investment doesn't come from knowing the overall situation but the characters who draw intrigue. Question like: 'What are this man's intentions?' And 'Does this person actually mean what they say?' Are what adds subtext that shows that the writer is trusting their reader connect the dots that aren't outright stated in the story.

Of course, there's a difference between holding back information because you yourself don't have the answers and doing it because you have a plan for later. Even Professional Authors like the J.R.R Martin name drop organisations and places before going in-depth once they become relevant later.

What my point is that as long as you have a plan for later, it isn't NECESSARY to give all the information at once. If you summarise the story in the first chapter alone, what will you have for later?

It's like how badly the Cautious Hero Anime could have become if it only repeated its main gimmick without any flare later on (though if your story is based off nothing more than a gimmick then you should keep it as a short story rather than lengthening it for no reason). Instead it actually had a lot more elements that was explored later on.

My reason for going on and on about this is because I feel that there are too many with their critics aiming towards what they want to see later because it's interesting rather than if the written draft is good right now.

I know this sounds similar to what I wrote that time I quite this story which was basically 'I got harassed by people not knowing how to criticise a story properly' but I feel like it's still relevant now.

This is a story I worked on ages ago that has been refined and edited by adding foreshadowing to events while also simplifying the power system better than before. This story can be considered a prequel to An Adventure Beyond Greatness as it takes place years prior to the events of that story.

Short Synopsis:
After retiring from the battlefield, my life became empty and lifeless. The regrets of my past haunt me in my sleep. Then a change occurred, a King from another world summoned me to fight for his kingdom, but I died even before I could give him my answer. Now, after a fake God allowed me to reincarnate (albeit imperfectly) with my memories intact, into a world filled with magic and swords.

Long Synopsis:
This is about a flawed protagonist who only knew to rely on others and not socialise who gets a second chance to change himself in order to live the life he aimed for in his past life. The narrator isn’t exactly trustworthy since it is purely in his bias perspective while other perspectives given by others fill in the blanks that he either leaves out or twists to suit the situation.

The story itself can be considered a parody of Isekai’s classic tropes which are given a sense of reality as time goes by. As there exists no ‘Demon Lord’, there is also no black and white, only characters opinions and counter-opinions throughout the story.

Here's the deal. No, no, this is not a shady deal. 

This first week of September, potato will do a staggered mass release of 50 chapters in order to compensate for her disappearing. FIFTY CHAPTERS! 

After that, she'll go back to her regular weekly release and as soon as Volume I of DBN is done, she will then edit and format it so it can be sold in Amazon.

For the mean time, if you can help her financially by buying or donating in Ko-fi or PayPal, she'll be extremely happy!

To be honest, potato has mixed feelings about this. As long as I have my readers enjoying what I write (and since you are all so supportive and understanding), I'm gonna stay here in WN. And the first reason why potato is here writing DBN is purely for fun and leisure… but well, real life sucks. 

Potato thought, "ah, even mosquito meat is still meat". So if I have at least ten readers giving me $1 a month, then at least it can cover me a meal…

With all that said, potato will now start writing so that you all can have your chapters by tomorrow. Potato will ensure that the quality will be better, the chapters longer since she is being thick-skinned to ask for money. It's gotta be worth your money, aye?

Hazel arrived at the airport two hours before her departure time out of paranoia but ended up breezing through security and sitting around waiting at the gate forever. Will hadn't finished the book yet so she had ended up borrowing a copy of it from the library in town before she left. 
She absentmindedly munched on the pretzels she had packed as she read in the uncomfortable plastic chair until it was time to board. Then she pulled it right back out again once she was in her seat. 
Flying first class for so long had spoiled her. Sitting in economy now was horribly cramped and she felt a tiny bit claustrophobic since she was in a window seat. At least she could stare out the window as everything below grew tiny during takeoff. That was probably her favorite part about flying. 
The man next to her seemed to be in his thirties and kept trying to hit on her before takeoff until she finally snapped and said she was married and to leave her alone. His buddy on the aisle seat convinced him to shut up after that, claiming it wasn't cool to bother a person as they tried to read anyway. 
Hazel was grateful to him. It really was rude to try and talk to someone absorbed in something else. 
To avoid further attempts at conversation, she kept her nose buried safely in the book at all times except to look out the window during takeoff. Those four and a half hours were terribly uncomfortable so she was ready to kiss the ground when they finally touched down in Orlando. 
She made her way to the baggage claim as quickly as she could after texting both Will and Muffincake to let them know she had arrived safely. Her bag was disproportionately huge because of all the souvenirs her husband wanted her to bring back. 
Standing next to it and looking around, Hazel spotted the sign Muffincake said she would bring. The woman holding it was curvy, seemed to be in her early thirties, and had wavy brown hair with blunt bangs. She wore rectangular black glasses and a floral blouse with jeans and a leather jacket. 
She rolled the giant bag behind her and approached the woman with the sign. "Muffincake?" she asked hesitantly. 
Her face broke into a wide smile and she dropped the sign to give Hazel a bone-crushing hug. "Topaz! It's so good to finally see you! Wow, you don't look anything like I imagined."
"…what did you imagine?"
"I don't know, somebody older? You seem so much more mature than me online…and I didn't expect the green hair either. It really suits you though! How old are you anyway? Oh wait, that's not what's most important. What's your name? I'm Eva Webster," Muffincake introduced. 
Eva Webster, huh? Her name fit her appearance. But she hadn't been what Hazel was expecting at all given how childishly the woman acted online. 
She had to be nearly a decade older than her and looked like any other thirty-something woman based on her outfit. Behind that very ordinary appearance was a major nerd with a huge tendency to overreact. 
"Hazel Sheffield," she said. "Nice to finally meet you."
Eva pulled away to get a better look at her. "What made you choose the screen name lilmisstopaz? There's nothing yellow about you."
"It's a play on my name. Topaz eyes and hazel eyes are pretty similar. What about you? What's the story behind Muffincake?" Hazel had been dying to know for ages. Will was waiting to hear the answer too so she hoped it wasn't too anticlimactic. 
She laughed. "It's kind of silly, actually. Have you ever seen Shrek 2? I watched it in theaters with my sister and at one point Prince Charming calls Princess Fiona Muffincake as a term of endearment while pretending to be her husband. 
"There was something about the way he said it that cracked me up. When the time came to create an online screen name for my first ever writing website I picked it as a sort of inside joke with myself. I've used it on every writing site since."
That…was not what Hazel had been expecting to hear. Yet somehow it fit perfectly with what little she knew about this odd woman. 
"Never mind that," Eva said. "Let's get your bag into my car. I live in Georgia so I drove down here this morning. We're in the same hotel room; I hope you don't mind."
She had assumed that would be the case. If nothing else, this week would be an interesting chance to observe what kind of person Muffincake—no, Eva—actually was. She really needed to start thinking of her as her real name or this could get awkward. 
As they drove to the hotel Eva had all sorts of questions for her. Age, why her hair was green, what Citrine's name was, if she had a second job, etc. Hazel answered them as simply as possible. At least she wasn't asking anything too terribly personal yet. 
She talked about herself too. Apparently she was thirty-one and lived alone but had family in another part of Georgia. She had a bit of a Southern accent, which Hazel had never been exposed to before. Listening to her talk was interesting. 
Eva went on about how she was working in a call center while waiting to go back to grad school because her novels had taken off online years ago and she didn't have time for all of the coursework. She thought it was fun and wasn't fussed about the long break, convinced she could go back whenever she felt like it. 
Hazel had never met such a carefree person before. She was genuinely cheerful and seemed quite satisfied with her life despite working two jobs and not having a family of her own at her age. 
It was both strange and refreshing at the same time. This week might be more fun than she had originally expected.

“I’ll marry anyone who will take me!” Hazel declared loudly. “I don’t need love!”

“Get down!” Will hissed. “You don’t know what kind of people are lurking around in here! Talking like that might get you killed!”
