Cam, looked at the paper which carried his lyrics for his song he remembered what his parents said "don't worry honey me and your dad will support who or what ever you love," his mom had said although his dad didn't say it Cameron, didn't care he hated his dad so now back to the stage Tommy and karie where doing power mixture talents although they couldn't mix much he then remembered Tommy's, mom reaction "oh so you like my son well I'm voting for you. you can do it," Katie had said Tommy stepped on the stage waiting for the announcement "now for our final contester he will be singing a song," the announcer said handing the microphone to Cameron,  he waited until the time shifted for him to start after that he began singing "there was a time when I thought you were a stranger although now you can't see me or feel what I feel for you I just want to let you know how I like mhmm hmm mmmhmmm I love you I want to be with why can't you see that I like you I just want to be with you hmm hmm hmm mhm I just want to be with you but it's not aloud you already love someone why do I feel this way why do I love you oh why do I feel this way why can't you understand mmhmm hmm why don't you love me back hmm hmm mmmhmmm," Cameron sang taking a few breathes crying a bit to his surprise everyone clapped and cheered the announcer walked towards Cameron "may we ask you young Cameron who do you like," the announcer asked everyone was mad but curious cam, couldn't bare to let it in any long he was about to not tell but both his and Tommy's parents said yes Tommy was still a bit confused "I-I like my friend Thomas!," Cameron, said blushing everyone was shocked but mostly the kids Tommy was surprised but inside a bit happy he wanted to go up there but karie, made him stay  Cameron got off the stage he ran off starting to cry Tommy tried to grab his hand but karie stopped him he sat down ashamed looking down "why didn't I... I should have... I'm stupid I've always told him about karie... I should have known," Tommy whispered crying a bit.

Hi my name is Katie levin at least that’s my totally normal people name my superhero name is mistress of calamity ya it’s really long but most people ok not most all people just call me calamity because of my superpowers is fire and ice I know it’s like that supercool anime but it’s also not like it my superpowers can cause...massive destruction if not careful I only use it at 1 percent now your probably wondering how the actual frick did I get my superpowers well you see there were these special rock things that flew out of the sky hundreds of years ago my family was the first to get powers when scientists tested on powered people they were frightened they thought it wasn’t hereditary and it would weaken over time but were they wrong my ancestors powers used to be fire and water now it’s ice and fire because of how strong it’s become now ever since that happened there’s been superhero licensing sorta like that anime again but also unlike it it’s optional most superhero’s don’t want there info out to the public eye so they don’t use the school license but as superhero came to be supervillains also came to be the thing I know is that this worlds gotten dangerous since powers risen and normal people declining

An Xiaxia's cheeks went scarlet red at one line in the lyrics.
"I love you baby…" Sheng Yize hummed it quietly in his deep voice, with the clean tone characteristic to teenagers.
Wasn't that "I love you, baby"?
An Xiaxia blushed and felt extremely awkward.
She then figured out another line shortly afterwards and typed both lines into the search engine.
The search soon came back with the name and the lyrics of the song. An Xiaxia tapped it open and only blushed even more!
Sheng Yize was singing a classic love song and the lyrics basically said —
"You're just too good to be true
I can't take my eyes off of you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be true
I love you, baby, trust in me when I say
I love you, baby, don't bring me down I pray

Aww! She could see fireworks in her head!
An Xiaxia pressed her hand to her thumping heart and stole a glance at Sheng Yize, who was still singing.
His long fingers plucked the strings carelessly and his slightly messy fringe had fallen over his forehead. He had lowered his bright gaze and his long lashes made a beautiful shadow under his eyes.
He seemed to sense An Xiaxia's gaze and he shifted his eyes at that moment, looking right into An Xiaxia's.
The song ended exactly at that instant. He smiled a little at An Xiaxia, which sent her heart racing again.
Burying her face in her hands, she pretended to clean up the table and she hid away by the table with the food.
After Sheng Yize put down the guitar, Chi Yuanfeng took over and began to sing. For a while, the roof was filled with his light-hearted singing voice.
An Xiaxia pushed the tiger lily buds around on her plate and suddenly noticed a tall figure standing beside her.
Looking up, she saw it was Sheng Yize and flushed right away.
Sheng Yize appeared to be perfectly calm. He had expected that An Xiaxia wouldn't understand a word of the English song.
Judging by her reaction, had she understood the lyrics?
At the thought of that, he decided to tease her a little. He moved closer and asked in a husky voice, "Do you want anything?"
Cheeks flushing, An Xiaxia stammered, "I… I'm not picky. I eat everything, apart, apart from carrots!"
"You're quite easy to take care of, then," chuckled Sheng Yize. There was a teasing tone in his voice.
An Xiaxia blushed. "So what? It's not like I need you to take care of me!"
Sheng Yize raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Do you want me to take care of you or not? I come with a lot of meat~"
His cajoling tone worked perfectly for a little glutton like An Xiaxia.
Eyes twinkling, An Xiaxia even asked innocently, "Really?"
Sheng Yize fought back a laugh, blinked, and put on a serious face. "I only take care of my girlfriend and that's not you. Why do you bother to ask? Move, I'm going to grill a chicken wing now."
An Xiaxia made way for him, looking desolate.
Why did she have the feeling that Sheng Yize was making fun of her and she couldn't do anything about it?
"Do you like that song?" Sheng Yize pretended to ask in passing. However, at a closer look, one could make out the skin behind his ears turning pink.
An Xiaxia stared unblinkingly at the chicken wing in his hand. Sheng Yize recognized that look right away and smiled. "Say you do if you want this."


As an anti-fan of the idol group, Starry Night, An Xiaxia is happy to spend her time online slandering lead singer Sheng Yize. 

But things take an unexpected turn when An Xiaxia starts high school - the Starry Night trio somehow becomes her classmates, and even end up moving into her house. 

Also, the nation’s idol Sheng Yize seems particularly interested in An Xiaxia for some reason...

Sheng Yize: Xiaxia, if I and a chicken wing fall into the water together, which one will you save?

An Xiaxia: Hm… I can't swim, so obviously you're going to save yourself and get my chicken wing out!

Sheng Yize: I thought I was the nation’s idol???

Karen climbed out and took off at once running over to Violet, only to cease in the middle then bolted back to collect her 'game' from her freezer hunt which she did just a little while ago. 
Using the hem of her shirt, she stored and carried the frozen treats back with her. While at the same time, placed the phone in her shirt too. Ignoring the never ending machine gun rant coming from Violet's phone.
'Shoot! I was too careless. I should have looked at it first before answering the call. Damn it! If I had known your phone was pandora's box, I wouldn't have let all hell broke loose! He's still not stopping? Omg, he must be shouting at the other end for me to hear him clearly without getting close to the phone. I'll pray for your soul Violet', thought Karen as she dashed with her fastest speed.
When she arrived where Violet was, she witnessed the said girl standing on the small platform, bathed in the multicoloured spectrum of bright lights coming from the spotlights and dancing lazer lights bouncing off the disco ball hanging overhead. 
Above the stage, installed were a wall mounted LED TV. Playing in it were the lyrics of the song that Violet was singing and a random video that wasn't related to the song. The sound systems were fixed at the sides of the stage and also at the sides of the LED TV.
With a wireless microphone in hand, Violet sung her heart out as she emotionally shed tears. She was leaning forward the podium above the stage. The podium was specifically there for the one who will sing on stage to read lyrics from. On the podium was a much smaller LED TV. In its screen played the same one in the big screen. Below it were the keypads where you can choose and enter songs to sing. 
In front of the small stage were two rows of long rectangular benches for the audience to watch or those waiting for their turn, to sit on. But instead of people, sitting on the benches were the multitude selection of foods that Karen prepared for the next session, stuffed toys that Violet placed there to be her spectators as she sing, the thick Song Catalogue, a bunch of water bottles, beverages and lastly, the two bottles of hard liquor that Violet painstakingly begged and compromised to Karen. 
The two liquors were Chivas Regal and Bacardi. As for the stuffed toys, Violet won those when she got bored and restless while she was waiting for Karen after finishing the previous agenda.
Earlier, after Karen taunted Violet to beat her score in Boxer Punch she left and departed to go somewhere. She went over to the Karaoke Zone of the Arcade to prepare for the next session. Karen planned to get the food, drinks and desserts so she immediately took into action.
She just didn't expect that as she was about to finish her preparation, Violet who was supposed to be still doing the last agenda, already beat her to the podium. And one of the hard liquors and some snacks were opened. 


What happens when two unlikely people met each other for the first time? They get married! That's right, they definitely did. They were akin to two parallel lines that weren't supposed to intersect or touch at any given  point in time. But in that fateful moment that they did meet, they were thrust into the world of whirlwind romance.

King: "Can you change the female lead? Someone who's more beautiful and cultured?" 

Violet: "Bastardddddd!! You're dead!!!" 

YoureMySun: "Cut it King! You're not supposed to be here too! Stop agitating Violet, ok?" 

King: "Hahahahaha me? stop? Dream on! I'll annoy the heck out of this woman. Even if it's the last thing I do! Gyahahaha" *evil laugh

Violet: *pulls out bat from somewhere then charged at King

YoureMySun: "Oh my God!!! V where the heck did you even get that! Stop right there!" 

King: "W-woman! I-i know how much you love me so don't you dare hit my face!" 

Violet: "Me love you? You of all people? Only an idiot will fall for you" *said through gnashing her teeth

King: "You're the idiot that fell for me, you know? G-get away from me barbarian!" 

YoureMySun: "You guys left me with no choice" 

*Our dearest author left with no choice, pulls out the magical keypad as she wrote,

YoureMySun: "As Violet was gunning for King, she tripped and fell in his embrace. And end up kissing each other. Then a good samaritan from the story's dimension accidentally throws a rope through the worm hole while trying to catch the running horse. The two got tied in the same position. The samaritan pulled and was shocked to see two people instead of the horse. He blinked then they disappeared, and wondered if he gone crazy. The two was transported to their love nest stuck in that position for the whole day. Until Violet had enough being taken advantage of by King. She ripped the rope and starts bashing King with a pillow. While King's laughters and ouchies reverberates throughout the house. And they lived happily ever after"

UN, Fortress Singapore

Captain Blake slammed his clenched fist angrily against the table as he glared at his officers' images on the display. "Stealing from other departments? What the fuck are you thinking?"

Colonel Frank stood at attention and kept his eyes staring straight over Blake's head in the video call, "Sir, securing our supply lines were of utmost importance, Sir!"

"Don't give me this shit!" Blake sighed. "Here, I am trying to wipe out corruption among the ranks and you... the Commandant of the whole GODDAMN MARINE CORPS goes off and steal from the Navy!"

"What fucking kind of message are you trying to send down to the rest? Huh?" Blake glared at Frank. "Did you think of the consequences when you pulled this stunt?" 

"Yes, Sir!" Frank replied stiffly. 

"Then?" Blake scowled. "I am having officers from the SDF court martialed and punished! And my own officers go and do this... and I have to go court martial one of my own who is suppose to set a standard! "

"Sir?" Commander Ford stepped in. "Maybe we should just cover this up..."

"Cover it up?" Blake rubbed his face tiredly. "And play favorites?"

"No Sir," Ford said. "We can say there was a cock up with the supply orders and court martialing a high ranking officer and the Commandant of the Marines might have negative effect on the Marines, the people's confidence in the military and our war efforts!"

"Despite Colonel Frank's young age," Ford looked off screen. "He is well liked by the Marines. Procusicating him might get some backlash from the Marines and especially from the people in the Military Logistic Department since he came up with an idea that ups their rate of survival out there."

"Next, public confidence will drop, since Frank is one of the humans and senior one to boot," Ford pointed out next. "Already the public is unhappy with the SDF's antics and corruption and with the arrests, the public is only just gaining back trust in us. So if we air our dirty laundry out, its gonna be bad..."

"Lastly, Frank is the lynchpin to our current strategies against the Imperials," Ford said. "Removing him from command and placing a new commander in place might cause confusion and a change of our current grand strategy already in place."

Intel Officer Tavor also stepped in and said, "I concur with Commander Ford's advice. If we were to do this publicly, it will be bad for all of us. I will advice we settle this issue after the Imperials are defeated and in a closed door setting."

Blake pondered for a while before he nodded and jabbed a finger at Frank's image, "You! I will deal with you after we settle the Imperials! Master Sergeant Pike will babysit over your actions from now on!"

Next, in a milder tone, Blake said, "I know at the start we all are desperate for any measures to survive in our situation! The ideas and initiatives are good! But there is still a chain of command here! I know we had been slack in our discipline among the senior officers here, but this is not an excuse nor a joke to steal."

"From now on, any new projects or ideas must be approved by either the Committee or personally by myself! I do not want any private pet projects going on behind my back with my approval!" Blake glared at the gathered officers through the display. "Is that clear, gentlemen?"

"AYE AYE SIR!" 

"Good, now what is our current situation?" Blake asked.

"Sir, Operation Mousetrap has begun," Frank reported. "A and B Battalions had fallen back to a defensive line and are just waiting for the First Imperial Army to take the bait."

"On the middle Front," Frank continued. "Three forts are being constructed by the engineers, these forts will be the distraction lure to the Second and Third Imperial Army in the center."

"As for our right," said Frank. "Commander Tommy has all his bombers redirected to focus on the Imperial fleet that seriously took us by surprise."

"Sir, this intelligence is a fault on my department," Intel Officer Tavor spoke up. "There was no indication of any fleet nor news. This is either the Imperial counterintelligence is better than our intelligence collection, or the Imperials had already planned to sneak their ships in, which they kept it a secret till the fleet has launched."

"And with the slow speed of messaging currently that is out of our area of influence," Tavor shook his head. "This news of an Imperial fleet will probably be picked up by us in another week or so."

"We stepped up patrols around the area and Commander Ford has also kindly dispatched a few more PT boats to operate in the area," Frank gave a nod to Ford. "But it will take a couple of days to arrive by land and another day before the PT boats are operational."

"Why wasn't the area around the floating dock patrolled?" Blake asked.

"Sir, we only have three UAVs left, and those three are already on their last legs," Commander Tommy explained. "And we have a stretch of over 40 000 km2 of land and sea to cover with four dragons, three ailing UAVS, and a dozen Cobras on recon duties..."

"We can only do so much," Commander Tommy said. "We don't have eyes everywhere."

Blake nodded, accepting the limitations of their abilities. "Alright, how about the Navy?"

"We are down to five boats operating in shifts around the Goblin Sea," Commander Ford replied. "Two down for maintenance and four PT boats are en route to Orwell's Point to support the three PT boats there and provide security for the floating service dock."

"Our supposed two corvettes should be up and running weeks ago are still delaying in their slips," Ford did not need to mention who delayed the ships' completion. "But I got assurance from the techs that the two ships will be ready for trials by end of this week and I promised them a bonus if they can do so."

Blake frowned as he tapped a few keys on his keypad and the map of the Goblin Sea appeared on his display. "Five small boats to cover our entire western seaboard?" 

Ford gave a shrug, "Well, I am seriously low on manpower and hulls, that was one reason why I hired civilians contractors to crew the Dragon's Roost."

"I am focusing the Goblin Sea Fleet to focus on the straits," Ford continued. "That is a high traffic area, lots of Isles merchant ships coming to Far Harbor. Also lots of pirates activity too."

"Isn't it almost time for the goblins' annual invasion?" Blake asked. "They should be sailing across to raid the coastline by now right?"

"Yes," Ford confirmed. "It's about time for that... I am having my planes running recon up and down the coast area to keep an eye out for them goblin raiders."

Blake tapped his fingers on the edge of his table, "Ford, I know you have been getting the short end of the stick constantly, and despite that, you did your best in ensuring the Navy still does its best in protecting our shores and ships."

"I promise to make it up to you," Blake said. "But for now, I still need you to hold the fort with the limited resources you have."

Ford nodded and gave a salute which the rest followed suit and Blake returned their salute proudly. "Go kick some ass!"

United Nations, Far Harbor, UN Naval Base, Dry Dock 'B'

Loud music could be heard coming from inside of the dry dock where one of Navy's newest corvette sat on keel blocks that lined the underside of the ship. Already the ship was fully painted, the bottom half of the hull was coated with an anti foul red paint while the upper hull was painted with a  new four color dazzle camouflage paint of flat black, haze gray, haze white and ocean gray colors.

Sparks rained down from the welding tools of the goblin techies as they welded the insides of the ship's hull while other goblins installed interior paneling to cover the piping and wires. The goblins yelled out in tune with their scratchy voices to the lyrics of 'Right Here, Right Now' by Fatboy Slim.

They bobbed their heads to the tune and worked at a speed that was faster than any elf or human could ever manually achieve, while all the way singing along to the song being played at ear bursting volume.

The Chief Shipwright gave up trying to get the goblins to turn down the volume as he watched the performance of the goblins. He and the others non goblins donned ear protection instead and continued with their own work onboard the ship and ignored the goblins' choice of music as long as they perform well.

"Ritz ere, ritz ow! Ritz ere, ritz ow! Ritz ere, ritz ow! Ritz ere, ritz ow!! ere ere er er er!!!"

First Imperial Army

General Kotor observed the stretch of land that his men had bled to take and frowned. The reports that came back from the men at the front were not to his expectations. Firstly, they had found no bodies of the enemy, nor any supplies or camps that usually follows an army. The only baffling items found in large quantities scattered all over the ground were some sort of tiny brass colored metal containers that had some kind of burnt smell.

Next, his men had taken too many casualties from the night attack. He had hoped to make use of the moonless night to advance as close as possible to surprise the enemy with a dawn attack which his scouts had reported spotting. 

But the enemy had set up detection spells of some sort which his men triggered and alerted the enemy and the enemy was ingenious to use some sort of illumination spell together with a floating spell to turn the night into day!

And that cursed light spell nearly doomed his men when the cursed rebels used their demonic thunder magic and wreak havoc among his soldiers from afar. He should really try to capture some of the rebels and force them to spill the secrets of their thunder magic.

From a military point of view, those thunder weapons will be a great asset due to their destructive powers. But he couldn't understand how did those rebels were able to constantly cast such destructive spells constantly.

His healers and mages had examined the bodies of the soldiers killed by those demonic thunder spells and found pieces of lead in their bodies. Some of the mages were theorizing that the rebels were using some sort of slingshot and using some kind of magic to imbue the lead balls with thunder magic.

Another group was guessing that the rebels were using some sort of ballista weapon. Lead balls were loaded onto the basket and magic was cast on the ballista before the lead balls were released with the roar of thunder.

As for the tiny brass color metal containers, the consensus was that it must be some kind of demonic potion used by the rebels to give them near limited mana. The mages and healers all said the burnt smell lingering behind has some hint of sulfur which demons were known to smell of.

General Kotor swept his eyes across the untamed land before him, the long grass plains and clumps of forested land had clear signs of an army passing through. He looked to his right where the tall jagged mountain ridges that looked like daggers stabbed into the heavens while on the far distance on his left, the tiny looking town of Falledge that appeared to have fallen into rebel hands stood.

Why did the rebels retreat when clearly they had magic more potent than his. Were the rebels outnumbered and hence frightened off by his soldiers? Or was there some sort of trap lying in wait before him? These thoughts went through his mind as his mind calculated the next course of action.

Should he focus on the running rebels or head straight for the town and liberate it?

The crew of the Training Ship UNS Singapore escaped from an alien fleet, finds themselves stranded on an unknown planet and has to survive against deadly monsters and magical creatures.

As Laz finally got on stage after talking of his shoes, shirt and jacket, all he could hear was the crowd. Many people were betting against him as they didn't think he had what it took to beat the killer he would be facing. There was also discussion going around about why this fight was taking place as many assumed that other fighters would do better from the crowd who seemed one part horny and one part blood thirsty. Several hostesses were going around and quietly giving some bullshit reason for it, but Laz didn't even bother to listen to it. Pretty soon, his opponent was on the stage across from him. 

The only one who didn't bothering questioning this was Tommy. He could figure out pretty quickly that it was probably something the old man had arranged after watching him fight. He knew that the only reason he would do this was because the old man felt that none of the other fighters were worthy. Jesse didn't care either way but Annie was looking on with die hard fervor.

"Your not going to have him killed are you? That would be such a waste," she commented while looking over at Tommy. Tommy, who was still in the middle of of being forcefully ridden by his one pet, just looked over at the girl who had just closed her legs but was still getting her feet licked. 

"Does it really matter? Besides, you of all people should understand that in a situation like this, the best thing to show power is to be able to kill someone who disrespects you. These aren't like the times back when our parents could easily make someone disappear. Nowadays, people are to soft to do that. And besides, it's a lot easier to notice when someone goes missing. I don't even know who this fucker is, but I bet he isn't important. Therefore, he makes the perfect little promotional piece for this party. Honestly, I should thank that bitch, Karen, the next time I see her. She delivered me the perfect little sacrifice." Tommy was grinning like an idiot as he thought things through and started to get excited. He also finally started to get into the action of the girl on top of him. Wrapping his hands around his pet's waist, he forcefully slammed her down onto his hard member as the once gentle sounds became slaps of flesh against flesh. After only a few moments, he finished inside of her and threw her to the floor before cleaning himself up and calling for a drink. He didn't want to be distracted from the up coming entertainment.

Annie on the other hand, just sat there as calm as could be. Had one not been watching, they would never have guessed she was just going at herself like a dog in heat. If anything, she started to give off a somewhat cold vibe after being somewhat brushed off by Tommy.

Surprisingly, Jesse actually opened his eyes at this moment, as though he felt something while taking a look at her. Annie was just watching the stage somewhat casually, basically ignoring Alex who seemed to really be enjoying his 'treat,' but she now seemed to be giving off waves of coldness. Jesse spent a few moments observing her before smiling a bit and closing his eyes. He was the only one who knew what he was thinking. 

Laz stood on stage while facing Smiles. Even with the mask on his face, Laz couldn't help but think that this guy was actually smiling quite stupidly. Interestingly enough, even though Smiles had removed his shirt to show off his well toned and tanned muscles, Laz had this feeling like he was hiding something. There was very little reason for why he felt like this, but it almost seemed like Smiles was moving his arms stiffly, like he was holding something in his palm that he didn't want to let go of.

The judge quickly called for the match to begin as the cheers rocked the open hall. It was at this point that Kennedy had reached the exit as she ran swiftly up to the security there.

"Hurry up and move, I left most of my cash in the car and this match is going to be an easy pay off." Immediately, Kennedy used the lines she had planned with Laz. Apparently, this wasn't the first time this had happened, despite the small number of fights, so the guards gave way quickly, leaving Kennedy to walk outside in a swift manner. Although she was on her way to the bike, she couldn't help but glance back at the massive building every time she heard a cheer and cringe a bit. She couldn't help but lower her head and pray for his safety, even as a few tears escaped from down her face.

As Laz faced Smiles, he couldn't help but feel a bit nervous. As it stood, he knew this guy was no pushover. If you add up every fight that Laz has been in so far, never once has he fought someone who could be considered skilled. All the same, he wasn't going to back down.

Something Laz noticed while training the other night was that he didn't feel pressure while fighting. Minus the monster that was Joey, but that was a different kind of pressure. It's like the difference between seeing a truck racing towards you and being surrounded by a hungry pack of wolves. At least, as far as the truck is concerned, you can dive out of the way at the right time. As long as you stay moving, you will be impossible to hit. When you are surrounded however, there is no place to go. If Laz was going to choose what described this current pressure, it was definitely like he was surrounded.

For a brief moment, nothing was said as both fighters just looked at one another. The crowd was somewhat hushed at this point as it seemed as though everyone was focused on the stage. Smiles ended up moving towards Laz first. At most, the two men were about 30 feet apart, but Smiles just took on slow step after another towards Laz. Laz didn't move, but just stood there and watched. If anything, he was a bit excited. In truth, since he had no experience fighting, he thought this was the perfect time to learn. Of course, had Kennedy known his thoughts while she was outside worrying about her, who knows what her reaction would be. 

As Smiles got to within a foot of Laz, he tilted his head, as though he was confused. After all, this was suppose to be a fight, yet so far all this guy did was stand there and not move. Unfortunately, because of the masks they were both wearing, there was little that could be read off a person. In Laz's case, he was either scared solid or completely unconcerned, Smiles just had no idea which.  

Without warning, Smiles turned around quickly and swept a leg at Laz's head. Due to Laz's senses, he was able to see this move coming and just backed away a slight bit. The problem came the next second as despite the kick missing, Smiles was able to extend his other leg while supporting himself with his arms and kick straight at Laz's leg. The result was Laz's legs were swept out from under him and he fell backwards while being stunned. 

He was using his sense to monitor Smiles every move, but he didn't register what had happened. 

As Laz hit the ground, he quickly rolled back, using the dodging techniques he had learned thanks to his inspired run through the woods. He had just barely managed to get back upright in a squatting position before another hidden kick connected to his stomach and sent him flying. As he landed, Laz rolled a few times before stabilizing himself, taking a deep breath, he stood back up. Although the wind had been knocked out of him with that kick, he was able to quickly get his breathing under control. As if by instinct, he started circulating his energy through out his body while looking at Smiles with alarm.

'How the hell can I not see it?' Laz desperately worked through the sequence of what had happened, but it seemed like nothing more than a blur each time. Although Laz was alarmed, he wasn't worried. As it was so far, he didn't feel any pain. If anyone was hurting, it was probably Smiles Laz thought.

And he was right.

'What the fuck is this kid?' Smiles was thinking from behind his mask. 

'I've fucking hit him with enough force to break a wooden beam and he's just standing up like it tickled. The only thing fucking hurting right now is me.' Looking down, Smiles couldn't help but lift his foot slightly and move it around. It felt stiff and sore. He knew it was badly bruised but not broken. He couldn't say the same thing about a few of his toes.

The first time, when he had kicked Laz's leg, he hit dead on the side of Laz's knee. A normal kick of that strength at that spot would have broken it for sure, but that didn't happen. Then, he aimed a straight but powerful kick right to his stomach to crush a few ribs and maybe puncture a lung, but the only thing it felt like he kicked was a sandbag. No, even sand bags had a little give in them, this felt more like a steel beam.

While Laz was engrossed with trying to find the secrets behind the moves, Smiles was trying to figure out how to fight this rock solid flesh bag. He could already tell from how his attacks went that Laz had no idea what he was doing. If anything, he had just relied on his solid body to get him through so far. Oddly, he was exactly what that old man had told him before rigging the match. The only thing the old man didn't figure out was exactly how hard Laz's defenses would be. 

Of course, there was always a solution. Not every part could be rock solid on a person, no matter how much they trained. Therefore, Smiles was going to have to fight dirty. And he knew just what to do. 

Laz was paying even more attention now as Smiles slowly backed away, his mind going through things again and again. When he had dodged those rubber bullets in the past, he could figure out where they were coming from and where they were going. Putting one plus one together, he could figure out exactly where he should be to avoid them. But as he was fighting, he felt more and more like he was being attacked by a flowing river. Just because the attacked started at one place and was aimed at one place, it was constantly changing where it was going. Because of this, it was impossible to know just where it was going to land and therefore, impossible to dodge. 

Of course, this didn't discourage Laz in the least and instead, made him more excited. He felt like he was training his brain by taxing it with figuring out Smiles moves while at the same keeping his body tense to help reduce the damage he was taking. Even Laz had to pause for a moment and wonder if he was some sort of masochist. He brushed this thought off quickly since this wasn't the time. 

Looking ahead, Smiles was now a few feet away and looking strait at Laz. 

'What's he doing?' Laz asked himself. He was starting to get a feeling of danger from him. 

Before Laz could entertain another thought, Smiles charged straight at him and jumped, as though he was going to use the downward momentum to empower his attack. This sort of attack seemed simple enough to Laz who brought his arms up to defend himself. 

As he noticed this, Smiles smirked before changing his aim wide to allow the attack to miss. As he landed not a half a foot in front of Laz, he instantly did a complete split, dropped down and pulled back his fist to attack. He was looking to see if Laz's iron body could handle a point blank range, world shattering nut punch. Without missing a beat, he swung his first forward as hard as he could.

BOOM...

A giant tree popped up in the middle of the Atlantic ocean covering the world in a strange new radiation and because of it, people began to change.

First, there are the Chosen. These super humans have only slight physical changes and yet can manifest incredible powers.

Next, you have the Cursed. These humans have experienced large scale body changes which range from animal adaptations to simply grotesque body decomposition. Our MC lives a somewhat lonely life while sometimes being accompanied by his rather senile yet kind grandfather. He has no idea where his parents went after they dropped him off a few years ago, so he has no choice but to stay here. He lives by the idea that he should just be air and not be noticed in the slightest. All of this goes ok until things start changing and Laz starts getting dragged around in many different directions.

Chapter 21: Silver

The limo pulled up to a building with heavy wooden beams and Joan stepped out with her entourage. A woman with silver hair in a modest black dress who made no attempt to hide the deepening wrinkles on her face stood just outside the door with her arms crossed. "I see you brought . . . company," she said as soon as Joan was within earshot.

"Hi Mom!" Joan ignored the comment and stepped in for a hug. Her mother reciprocated with a tired sigh.

"Hi, uh . . ." Mokuba paused, not knowing what to call her.

"Gertrude Saunders, and that's Mrs. Saunders to you." Gertrude proffered her hand and Mokuba shook it. "You're Seto, I presume?"

"I'm Seto Kaiba." Seto slid in swiftly and shoved his hand into Gertrude's. "He's my younger brother."

"How silly of me. Your brother was too polite," Gertrude replied as she shook Seto's hand.

Seto raised an eyebrow but chose not to test her patience. Besides, his mind still ruminated on the fact that Joan had apparently kept her maiden name.

Gertrude peered past Seto at the three people in black suits. "Who are your other friends?"

"Bodyguards," Joan replied.

Gertrude's mouth drew into a tight ring. "Oh."

"Shall we go inside?" Joan suggested.

"Yes, I suppose we shall," Gertrude said.

They passed through a set of double doors and admired two rows of giant metal brewing vats before turning right into a restaurant section with a retro vibe. The bodyguards took their own table while the Kaiba brothers, Joan, and her mother settled into a corner booth with one long, curved seat.

A towering bald man in a black apron approached the table. A corner of a tattoo on his bicep peeked from under one of his sleeves. Unlike the first time Mokuba had seen him, "Michelle" was completely clean-shaven. Despite the baldness, he didn't look a day over thirty. "Hi, my name is Michael and I'll be your server today. Can I get you started with some drinks?"

Joan laughed and leaned over Seto to kiss Michael. Seto tolerated the action, focusing on Joan's lithe body instead of the hairless ape she had chosen as a life partner. Thankfully Joan kept the kiss brief.

"Hello, dear." Gertrude stood and hugged Michael. "Won't you join us?"

"Sorry Trudy, I'm on my shift," Michael said a little too happily.

Gertrude's hands lingered on Michael's bulging forearms. "Oh bless your heart. Don't be a stranger now." She sat down and ordered water. Joan and the Kaibas followed suit.

"Are you sure you don't want a beer?" Michael looked pointedly at the Kaibas.

"You know what? Let's do the sampler," Joan said.

"Coming right up." Michael turned and walked off.

"You didn't tell me your husband was a wage monkey," Seto said to Joan.

"Is that a problem?" Joan asked.

Seto fell silent as his mind tied itself in knots trying to figure out what her husband had that he didn't have.

"Well," Gertrude huffed, "I didn't realize I'd be dining with prostitutes and tax collectors at the same time."

"We're game developers, not tax collectors," Mokuba said.

"Even worse! Video games teach children to idolize a screen when they should be focused on the Lord." Gertrude turned to her daughter expectantly. "And you . . . I raised you better than this."

Joan shrugged. "At least you raised a smart whore."

"I rebuke that statement in Jesus' name. I don't know where you got your smart mouth, but it wasn't from me." Gertrude crossed her arms and leaned back with a scowl.

Seto mimicked Gertrude's posture but kept his facial features placid. "You didn't tell me your mother had an imaginary friend."

"I know," Joan grinned, "I wanted that to be a surprise."

Silence congealed on the table until Michael showed up and swiped it with a rag. "I can tell you're going to need these." He set down a bowl of pretzels and three wooden paddles each containing four small glasses of beer. He rattled off the name of each one and handed Gertrude her water. "Can I take your order now?"

"Why," Gertrude's lips trembled as she looked up at Michael, "why didn't you guard her heart?"

"I'm sorry," Michael said, "we don't serve that here. Could I interest you in the Reuben?"

Gertrude pursed her lips. "For now, but you and I need to have a talk later, young man."

"Sorry Trudy, I already have plans after work. Now what would the rest of you like?" Michael took sandwich orders from the others and left them again. Seto grabbed a beer and took a sip while Mokuba stared uncomfortably at Gertrude.

Gertrude pressed fingers to her forehead. "Has Michael been backsliding too?"

Joan took a long draft of beer. "It's up to him how much he wants to tell you."

Mokuba followed Joan's lead, hoping the alcohol would make this experience more tolerable.

"Can you at least tell me how long this has been going on?" Gertrude pressed.

"Mom," Joan's voice cracked, "I stopped being your perfect little girl my second semester in college."

Gertrude reached across the table and squeezed Joan's hand. "How?"

"You remember that guy from calculus I fell in love with? Tímo." Pain reverberated through Joan's free hand. She used it to drain her beer before sticking it under the table. Seto held it, smothering the phantom sensation.

Gertrude's eyes glistened with moisture. "I remember those were dark times for you, and it hurt me to see you that way, but you never told me what he did to you."

"Nothing," Joan said.

"Nothing?" Gertrude echoed.

"And that was the entire problem. He was asexual."

"Asexual?"

"He didn't experience sexual attraction for anybody. Not me, not . . . anybody." Joan retracted her hand from her mother and tackled another beer.

"That sounds like a blessing. He could go into the priesthood."

"No." Joan sighed. "Just no. I couldn't even get him to join me at Campus Crusade for Christ meetings, let alone mass. Tímo wasn't celibate for any faith-based reason. He simply didn't have the usual chemicals floating around in his brain."

"But you struggled with lust?"

Joan dismissed the worn-out phrase. "Father John said something I'll never forget. He said that sexuality is a gift to express your love for someone, never to be used for manipulation. I wanted that more than anything with Tímo. I love him. I still do. At the time though, I thought he had to be my one and only. I pushed too hard for physical intimacy, and that drove him away from me."

"If you really loved him that much, why didn't you pray and wait for him?"

"Love, not loved," Joan corrected. "Besides, I thought you wanted grandchildren, and that doesn't happen without sex. Tímo is not going to change his mind about being asexual any more than I will change mine about loving him. We both got slapped by the wrong set of hormones in the wrong place at the wrong time. Tímo wanted me to move on, to be happy with someone else, so I had what most people would call a rebound relationship."

"Didn't your father and I meet him once? At the Blooming Planet Festival?"

"Yes. He was a good man, but I never loved him. I channeled my feelings for Tímo into what I did with that man, and I knew it was a lie, and it tore me apart inside, so I told him. I told him that I love Tímo, and strangely he was OK with that. I wasn't manipulating him, so I slept with him again, and again, and I searched my heart. I slept with him a few times even after breaking up with him, but it was merely fooling around, not love, and we both knew it."

"But physical intimacy is supposed to be sacred," Gertrude reminded Joan.

"It can be sometimes, but it doesn't have to be. Problems arise when people go into it with too many expectations. Look, I listened to people testify at Campus Crusade for Christ meetings. One girl spoke about all the guilt she felt over all the sex she had in high school before she got saved. I searched my heart, but the guilt wasn't there. It vanished the moment I started being honest with the men in my life."

"Honest? But you're deceiving yourself," Gertrude said. "The real you hungers and thirsts for Christ's light."

Joan finished the last of her beer and noticed that the Kaiba brothers had already done the same. A pleasant buzz permeated her head. She slipped her free hand under the table and found Mokuba's. "If, and that's if, God is real, He put me through that suffering for a reason. He's slow to anger, rich in kindness, and I highly doubt He put me through that just to keep me on my knees for the rest of my life. Otherwise He would have said something by now."

Gertrude felt her wits' end nearing. "Do you remember when you joined the church choir? You said that you felt God's love through the music. I think you need to come back to church and sing with us."

Joan had tried that already, more times than she could count. It helped in the moment, but Joan knew that had been a product of her imagination, and the human imagination had conjured countless mystical beings since the days of cave paintings. She still loved the old songs, but they had a different meaning to her now. [The Summons] God was in the people around her, not looking down on everyone from Heaven. Joan prayed that these men sitting with her here and now wouldn't leave her high and dry when she needed them the most, even if it meant risking their reputations.

A new song popped into Joan's mind, one she'd heard on the loading screen for Monsters of the Duel while playing with Marc. She'd loved the song so much that she'd downloaded it on her train ride home and listened to it several times and even sang it in the shower. She started softly on the chorus. [You're not Me]

Mokuba echoed the line before he could think too hard about it. He'd hand-picked this song for Monsters of the Duel, and it had been one of the few decisions Seto had signed off on immediately.

Fuck it, Seto thought. One sampler was hardly enough to get him drunk, but the number of empty glasses on the table could deceive anyone. Besides, he couldn't let Mokuba and Joan make fools of themselves alone. He joined in the song.

The three of them finished the chorus together. Joan paused for a split second but jumped back in when the Kaibas kept going. They got through two verses together before they paused and looked over to see Michael clapping. The bodyguards applauded too. Tingles rippled through Joan's entire body. She knew this feeling well, and Michael's presence amplified it to a scale she never thought possible. They'd fought a beast together – not a physical beast, but the way the Kaiba brothers had backed her up in front of her mother meant that she could trust them, rely on them for anything. Nothing would walk over them. Nothing could stand in their way. They had seized the day, but that was another song for another time and Joan doubted the Kaibas knew it anyway. She slid her arms around the brothers, pulling them in closer to her and grinning like a maniac.

Gertrude's jaw dangled while Michael disappeared into the kitchen and returned with their food. He laid their plates in front of them. Gertrude's eyes shot up to Michael. "Don't tell me you condone this."

"Trudy, I'm not going to tell you anything you're not ready to accept." Michael collected the empty beer glasses. "Refills on anything?"

"I'm good," Joan said.

"All right, enjoy!" Michael walked off.

Gertrude bowed her head and made the sign of the cross. "We thank You Lord, for all you give; the food we eat, the lives we live; and to our loved ones far away, please send your blessings, Lord we pray. And help us all to live our days with thankful hearts and loving ways. Amen."

They ate wordlessly for a while before Joan extended an olive branch. "Mom, I'm sorry. You did a lot for me growing up. I learned a lot from Church, but then I learned so much more. It's not your fault I turned out this way, but I'm not ashamed of it."

Gertrude sighed. "I suppose we all lose our way sometimes. Just remember that Jesus always goes looking for His lost sheep. Maybe this is all part of the Lord's plan."

"Maybe," Joan conceded. She always knew she might be wrong, but until she heard it from God himself, she wasn't going to trust a few old men in embroidered vestments interpreting a book written in a time when wives were counted alongside cattle.

"So . . ." Gertrude looked from Mokuba to Seto. "Tell me more about what you do."

Seto couldn't remember the last time he'd encountered someone so clueless to Kaiba Corporation's endeavors. "Have you been living under a rock?"

"Christ is my rock," Gertrude replied.

"So I gathered. Apparently your imaginary friend has kept you oblivious to the fact that my company has single-handedly pioneered practically all advances in cutting-edge technology over the past decade."

"You watch your tongue!" Gertrude snapped. "Didn't your mother teach you any manners?"

"He was adopted," Joan supplied.

Seto looked away.

Gertrude's mouth constricted. "Oh."

"Maybe we should talk about something else. Did you know that Jessica got engaged?" Joan and her mom went on like that, talking about people Seto and Mokuba had no prior knowledge of. For the first time in their lives, the Kaiba brothers experienced the joys of serving as arm candy.

When they finally got back to the limo, Seto said, "I'm glad that's over. I was getting bored."

"You're the one who wanted to come along," Joan reminded him.

"I liked it," Mokuba said. "It was tense at first, but then it got all sweet. Your mom really loves you. I've never experienced that."

Joan inched closer to Mokuba. She soaked in his deep violet pools and then brought her lips to his. She hesitated two millimeters away before closing the gap, giving it her all. This one wasn't for practice, and somehow Mokuba knew it instantly. Visions flashed through his mind's eye so fast that he couldn't tell where or when they were supposed to be. A strange feeling crept through his entire being. Could this be what all the poets meant when they spoke of love? Could they truly have a future together? Mokuba slapped the idea away, but the feeling persisted even after she broke contact.

"What . . . what was that for?" Mokuba asked.

"For singing with me. It meant the world to me," Joan said.

"Where's mine?" Seto demanded.

He expected a biting remark about how Mokuba had been the first to join in the song, but she merely turned and repeated the process. Confusion peppered his brain from start to finish.

Seto leaned back against the leather seat, collecting his thoughts. His imagination had to be playing tricks on him, showing him what he wanted to see, but after the way Mokuba had reacted, uncertainty nagged him. "Whore, I understand what that was for, but what was that?"

Joan smirked cryptically. "Don't worry. You'll get used to it." She'd been through this enough times to know they needed to accept it too before she could spill the beans.

When CEO Seto Kaiba propositions Joan, she expects a one-night stand, but he and his brother keep coming back for more. Now the Kaiba brothers want an heir from her and will pay any price to get it. How do Joan’s husband and boyfriend feel about her new profession? More importantly, how do they handle public scrutiny?

Me and Auster were like statues because of starstruck

They shook hands and left for home with his grandparents.
           Sometimes it was irksome to be so obedient to his elders. With this feeling, he suddenly realized something really really very bad inside him that time. An argument between his mind and heart began. 
            Was he becoming a rebellious youth? But why? Was it because he was dying to hobnob with his dancing partner?
          Was his heart pulling him to be an evil guy?  I refuse to be rascal with my grandparents who has been nurturing me from infancy and until now. How shameless and grateful was I, should I become troublesome.
            My poor old grandparents, my heart was starting to dislike your over protectiveness for me. My brain.... don't you... ever... listen.... to my heart!
            Gosh! My body was torn down by my heart and mind. What should I have done? 
           He heard his subconscious mind that told him to blame the arrow of Little Master Cupid that mistakenly hit your heart bullseye. Not us, your heart and mind. 
            His heart beat up and down, up and down, in and out, in and out like the anal of those chicken strutting at their wide yard. 
              So irritating... So disgusting... So frustrating... So depressing..... that gave him sleepless night. 
           He left his bed for the dining room so that he could serve himself a cup of  hot milk. He had to forget her even for a while.
          Still... he was defeated by his defiant heart. It contineously protested and dictated his mind to push his hands to get his cell phone at his night stand.
          "Have you left the auditorium?"
          "Yeah! Why?"
          "I am starting to have a sleepless night."
          "You have an insomnia?"
           "Nah. I have you in my heart and mind." 
           "How come I am inside them... when I am on my comfortable bed covered with a quilt while hugging a stuffed Mickey Mouse?"
           "How I wish I was that Mickey Mouse!"
           Her eyes was starting to droop unable to fight her drowsiness when she   read his text message once again.
         "I wish it would not you and that Mickey mouse. I pray to God it would be you and I"
          There was no more reply. He assumed that she was already asleep on that memorable night.
          It was already three at dawn when he was able to sleep. His too late sleep affected his usual waking up time. Loved and cared by his elders, they didn't bother to wake him up until quarter to seven in the morning. It was okay for him to be in school at seven thirty in the morning skipping the flag ceremony.
              What was more  important? He was not absent on that day.
              It was the day he started coping up with the lessons he missed and with his shortcoming as a group mate in their research work written output. 
             He had to be ready with what his group mates asked him to draft and research if he wouldn't like to have  a poor mark or a failing mark.  After all, he wouldn't like to be the disgrace of his family.
             Time and days flew so fast making his each day very busy. Nevertheless, at the midst of his hectic obligation and responsibility as a student, a well-taken care of by his grandparents, and God's beloved child, he had never forgotten to send a text message to Ms. Leonor.
            "Ms. Leonor, I hope it was still Valentines night celebration until now."
           "And why was that?"
            "I still want to be dancing with you."
            "Well... A lost time could never return unless you invent a time machine."
           "That would give me a long time to complete a discovery."
           "Yay! Someone wanted to conduct an experimental discovery."
           "I won't... if you promise to wait for me until I become a degree holder."
           "Why would I wait for you? Who Am I to you? And Who are you to me?"
           "Would you like to be my girlfriend and I.. to be your boyfriend?"
            "You're quick! Isn't it too early for that stage? We've just known each other for only two weeks."
            "My feeling for you would have never changed till the end of time."
            "You mean... forever?"
            "Don't you like a forever relationship with me?"
            "Can we just be friends as of now?" 
             She eluded his confession by disconnecting from that texting session between him and her.
             Alas, he was amused of his brazen confession. He found it better texting her rather than talking to her in person. He knew his palpitation would again make his tongue stammer.
            That Valentines night on the 14th of February he had planned to confess. Only to discover his diffidence talking to his love at first sight.
             Good he was in the library when he thought of this. He tried to analyze himself.... A soul searching was indeed, done. 
                Would his reaction be the same had his heart throbbed for another young lady?
               Would he likewise stutter? Was it a strange feeling for her that made him stammer helplessly?
                Was this strange feeling the so called love?
                Would it really possible for him to be fallen in love at his first glance for the first time?
               Would there be second, third, and several times that he would possibly be in love at first sight?
               Heaven! It was not only nerve-wracking but also mind blowing earth shattering experience at the age of seventeen.
              Little Master Cupid! Why did you not wait for me to grow older? At least at my twentieth birthday I would be a second year college during that time.
              Should it happened on that age, I could gather my courage to tell grandma and grandpa to get married to her immediately.
              Who knew that she might be snatched away from me by another.... Am I already a man? Not yet? Oh, my God.. It really made me too impatient to wait for the right time.
               "Mr. Kenneth Allen Lacandula, we are closing for our home. It's already five in the afternoon."
               He was really in deep thought for a long time that he was unable to track his time in going home.
                Since he was not the one who cooked their morning meal, he should be the one to cook their evening meal. It was so embarrassing for his guardians who were already old to be the one serving him.
                 He dropped by at the market to buy some goods for their viand. He would purchase the fish that he would be cooking for the favorite menu of his loving and prudent guardians despite their strictness.
              From that eventful Valentines night, not a single day would he forget to send his message of love, care and concern for his first love even though he was busy with the chores and outputs he had in his hands. 
             As a matter of fact, he was tempted to be presumptuous that Leonor and him had mutual feelings for each other as she never failed him to receive a reply from her. 
              However, the saying.... "An active and alert individual surely defeated a hard-working man" should never slip his mind. He had to be strong-willed through an incessant confession of his Pulsating heart... Only for her....no other maiden could have her heart quaver like an earthquake shaking the earth at a magnitude so strong of more than six or seven. 
                 It was February 28...fourteen days from the day they danced..he would sent him the lyrics of the popular song by a Filipino singer and song writer a stanza each day. 
               For the first day.. he sent him this stanza of 'Buwan' by; Juan Karlos Labajo
               Ako'y sa'yo, ikaw ay akin
               Ganda mo sa paningin
               Ako ngayo'y nag-iisa
               Sana ay tabihan na 
               He translated it in English:
              I am yours, you are mine
              You're so lovely for my sight
              As if now I am alone
              Hope you're by my side 
              He did not text anything but these lyrics that he translated in English language. 
             Ms. Leonor was at a lost for words how to reply an adapted lyrical message from him. So, she just texted back honestly that her astonishing feeling  gave her nothing to say. 
             He did not reply back that day. But the following day, he sent him the second stanza with an English translation. 
          Sa ilalim ng puting ilaw
          (Beneath the bright white  light) 
           Sa dilaw na buwan
           (That golden bright moonlit night) 
           Pakinggan mo ang aking sigaw
           (Listen to how I would shout out) 
           Sa dilaw na buwan
           (Before the golden Bright moonlit eyes) 
            Ting! A notification sound in his mobile phone moved his hands to check it. 
           "Kenneth Allen! You're giving me a hard time to reply. I could not think of a precise word to react on this musical message you sent me." 
          A naughty smile was plastered on his face but went on with his output. 
         On the third day he sent another stanza. Just like the past two days, he had the lyrics translated. 
     Ayokong mabuhay nang malungkot
     (I refuse to live so lonely) 
      Ikaw ang nagpapasaya
     (You're making me happy) 
  At makakasama hanggang sa pagtanda
     (I want to be with you till we're old) 
      Halina tayo'y humiga

       "Kenneth Allen, I really really don't know what to say. You seemed to be so serious with your feelings for me. We're still too young for it. " 
         "I am. But you and I are going to wait for that right time." 
         On the fourth day all he did was to resent the stanza he sent on the second day of his decided adapted lyrical love confession. 
        Came the fifth day of his insinuation to accept him as her boyfriend.

           "Congratulations, son! I believe you're priority is your study. Make her your inspiration. No fooling around with her and with us. Is that a deal?" 
         "Sure, it is." She is my inspiration dad aside from you all."
