She had been living with the Ragans for nearly two weeks and yet she had barely even stepped out of the mansion's walls. It was best for young ladies to enjoy their time around town with friends. Being constantly cooped up in the study room with Charlie wasn't exactly an ideal situation in Wyatt's opinion. Of course, not that Alice had ever complained.

Strolling through the cobbled streets, Wyatt pointed out some of his personal favorite shops along the way. They passed by boutiques selling beautiful ball gowns, stores selling sparkling jewels, and even quaint little cafes that wafted out the sugary sweet scent of freshly baked pastries. However, while Alice acted as though she was very interested in those, he could tell that was all it was. An act. At the call of the bell, the clerk looked up from his book, squinting at the door before rising to his feet. The book was placed pages-down onto the counter, a smile upon his lips.

"Master Wyatt!" The old clerk greeted enthusiastically. "I was wondering when you'll be visiting next. The books you ordered two weeks back are finally here." 

"Greetings," Wyatt replied fairly. "And thank you so much for your help with those. It's nearly impossible to find them anywhere else."

The old man waved, his cheeks reddening just a little. "It's no problem. Let me go get them for you." Shuffling towards the back of the shop, the clerk disappeared behind a dividing curtain.

"Do you come here often?" Alice asked, looking around the small bookstore with great interest. At random, she pulled out one of the books from the shelves, her fingers tracing the title of the book on the cover, feeling the indented words on the hard leather.

'History of Gladiolum. Volume III,' it read. Alice had seen a similar history book in Charlie's study room before. Making a mental note to briefly read through the contents of the book, she slotted the book back to its original position.

"Hmm, I wonder." Tapping a finger to his chin, Wyatt looked deep in thought. "I guess I do visit this store a little more than the average folk. They sell writing supplies as well as books and I run out of the former a little too often. Besides, this store is the only one in the capital that can procure rare and often out-of-print."

Walking a little further into the shop, Alice glanced through the assortment of reading materials offered. They had both fiction and non-fiction books in the store, leaning closer to non-fiction books. Most books were new copies, their covers still brightly colored while others were much older and encased in glass covers. Those books seemed old and tattered but the words were still in dark black ink, most likely having been re-written over so that it wouldn't be lost to time. 

The one that had caught Alice's attention was a purple leather-bound book that was almost as thick as a dictionary. The title of this book was written in bright, glittery gold in thick block letters. A small sign that indicated the price of the old tome was placed beside the book. Alice's eyes widened at the number of zeros, her head reeling back a little in surprise. She still wasn't sure about how the currency worked in Gladiolum but with so many zeros, the book was bound to be expensive no matter the exchange rate.

'The Theory of Magic. Volume I,' the title wrote.

"Are you interested in that one? Ooh, that's a pricey one." Wyatt's voice was right by Alice's ear, causing her to jump a little, her ears tingling from his breath. Stepping away, she held both hands to her chest, staring wide-eyed at Wyatt who looked as amused as ever.

To give you an example of its value, five flois can buy you a piece of stale bread at the end of the day in the capital's cheapest bakery, maybe? Books, on the other hand, are usually five to ten fleurons, if it's a common title that can be easily found."

Alice gulped. Judging by the examples Wyatt provided, the currency here in Gladiolum seemed similar to the system she was used to. A single fleuron held as much value as a dollar back home and a flois would be around ten cents. Her hands were starting to feel clammy as she stared hard at the price tag of The Theory of Magic.

"Ridiculously priced?" Wyatt supplied. When Alice nodded numbly, Wyatt chuckled. "This is an ancient tome about magic. There are only five copies of this book that was ever produced. But if you're really interested in this book, there's no need for you to fork out such a hefty amount just to read it. We have a copy of it back in the mansion's library."

Flabbergasted and speechless, Alice blinked dumbly at what Wyatt had so casually revealed. Although she long knew that the Ragan mansion was a sprawling estate with many different needlessly fanciful rooms, she hadn't even thought to think that it might house precious artifacts within its walls. 

In Gladiolum, it seemed as though the gap between its people was wider than the ocean. The rich lived in heaven while the poor couldn't even afford hell.

"Why don't you take a look around the bookshop and see if there's anything that catches your eye?" Wyatt offered. "If we don't already have the book back home, I don't mind making a few extra purchases. It's the least I can do for dragging you out here with me on such a warm afternoon."

Alice's heart skipped a beat. She braved a step closer, momentarily forgetting about the book in the glass display case. Cupping her hands together as if they were in prayer, Alice beamed.

However, he was still gazing in Alice's way, watching silently and bemused as the girl darted from shelf to shelf, climbing ladders and bending low in search of more. There were already over seven books in her hands and she only ever added more to the collection.

"My," the old clerk exclaimed. "I've not seen anyone so frantic for a good title since you first came to my humble store years ago. The old ladies at the bakery next block over will go mad once they hear that the young Master Wyatt is no longer single."

Instead, she placed most of them on an empty table by one side. The stack of books was almost taller than she was and yet she continued to hunt for more, her eyes practically dripping with avarice.

My sister got some books and she went to her desk to fix the cards of the books. I walked swiftly towards the room to find the book I was asked to look for. 

I arrived at the room and turned on the switch of the room but the bulbs didn't light up. I turned on the flashlight of my phone and one by one, I looked at the shelves to see the book ma'am wanted me to get for her.

I saw different kinds of books on the shelves, with different genres made in different timelines. Almost all of the books here are books that aren't frequently used or borrowed. Old books, to be more specific. Fiction, non-fiction, old news articles, et cetera. Most of them are all kept here but the problem is, the books aren't all organized which makes looking for specific books difficult to see.

I also have the interest in reading books. I don't find watching television very interesting because it doesn't get me to use my imagination very well. In every book that I read, I like it when I get to imagine the worlds or the situations being described by the author through his or her character's senses. In this way, I get to make my mind active other than doing school works.

I went outside the room and went straight to my sister, Terra, at the main desk and sat beside her.

There are multiple plot issue that was never talked by Rowling and it was taken up by fan-fiction society to manipulate as they want.
'Wait am a Main Character?' I sat up again with frown on my face. In the last 50+ year life I have all way like as I wanted and worked hard to get what I wanted. Money, Fame, lovers..husbands.
Should I just live it like that, or should I be like Lily even is going to be (according to the books or fan fiction). Goodie two shoes, know it all, good at charms, wife of Potter and mother to Harry Potter? Was there more to Lily Potter I mean Evens than that?

Harry Evans ( I need to start calling his dad, I through) and started talking to Helan and Petunia about the upcoming school semester and how we are all going have good Christmas in this big home.

Wait do I even have magic. I screamed initially and standing up straight. All Evans started at me and I just stood there thinking hard. This body has no collection of magic or anything she has ever done.

Li Du couldn’t understand why Thompson was so hostile toward him. Was it because he was close to Sophie? Didn’t that guy know that with his strange temperament, even without Li Du, Sophie would never be with him?

Despite only two encounters, Mr. Li had already grasped what kind of person Thompson was. He was trash, a failure of a human!

He had to keep the questions in his heart for now. After stopping the bleeding for the youth, the ambulance left swiftly toward the hospital to perform the latter part of the surgery.

Li Du didn’t go along, so Hans drove over to fetch him.

Sometime later, Sophie called, and said in a gentle tone, "The operation was a success. The damaged artery has been closed. Li, I want to express my thanks for today."

Li Du said with a smile, "No need for thanks. We worked together to save that man’s life."

Sophie was interested in his surgical expertise, and began asking about the topic.

Li Du had almost no knowledge in that field. The reason he could find the bullet and apply the sponge was all due to the bug.

He knew that the more he spoke, the more he would reveal, so he cleverly changed the topic to Ah Meow.

Thus, with Ah Meow as the main topic, the two chatted pleasantly for half the afternoon, until Sophie was called to perform another surgery.

In the evening, when they were preparing to have dinner, Hans picked up a call, and then said, "Buddy, we have new work to do."

Li Du asked, "Which storage company is having an auction?"

Hans gleefully said, "It’s not a normal storage auction this time; it’s kind of like a mutated auction. A book company has declared bankrupt, and we’re going to clear out their storage."

"Which book company is declaring bankruptcy? My God, it can’t be Borders?" Hannah, who was preparing the dishes, stuck her head out of the kitchen.

Hans shrugged, and pointed his finger at her. "Your guess is right. It’s Borders. All their storage in Phoenix will be cleared out."

Hannah said helplessly, "D*mmit, the bookstores are getting fewer. In the future, where will our children go to read? Dutton’s, The Bodhi Tree—all of them have gone bankrupt. Also Barnes & Nobles. I remember when I was still in school how that bookstore had many branches."

"What’s the use in having branches?" Hans asked. "Their sales were poor. Let’s take you as an example; did you go to those bookstores when you were in school?" 

Hannah said, "Of course I went…"

"And you read so many books, but still ended up not making into any of the specialized schools?" Hans cut her off.

Hannah’s face flushed red, and she argued, "I-I went to bookstores to buy books, though the number of books I read wasn’t many. But I know that we should read more books."

Li Du nodded and said, "Correct. Books are humankind’s best friend."

Hans shook his head and said, "I don’t understand much about that, so save your breath. The reduction in the number of bookstores is a nationwide trend, not just Phoenix. But if you guys want to buy books, there are still some bookstores out there, like Stories, Skylight Books, Book Soup, The Last Bookstore…"

He went out every day, so he was familiar with those shops. From the tip of his tongue, he named many book companies that were still in business.

Li Du said, "In reality, these are not all needed. All that’s necessary is one in Arizona."

After resting for a day in Flagstaff, they once again set out on the road to Phoenix.

In the lobby of the Steampunk Hotel, some treasure hunters had gathered. After seeing them, these people waved their hands in greeting.

"Hello, Li, Hans, and the monster. Good morning, fellas."

"Phoenix is going to be scrubbed clean again—hope you guys leave something behind this time."

"Li, I heard you guys taught Lucas, that dumb buffalo, a lesson? That guy left Phoenix."

Li Du was surprised, and said, "Taught what lesson? We didn’t screw with him. What happened?"

"That guy spent over 50,000 dollars trying to get a storage unit with stone sculptures, thinking that there would be a bunch of valuable art in it," a well-built treasure hunter said with a laugh. "Turns out all of it was just worthless junk. Heard that the unit was snatched from you?"

Li Du said, "Right—that unit was worthless? I wanted to take a risk for it, but their offer was too high, over 50,000 dollars."

That information was quite useful for him, though he still wanted to personally examine those sculptures to researc their material and time energy to find out what secrets the bug was still hiding.

But it seemed that it was not possible anymore. Lucas would rather destroy those sculptures than give them to him.

They sat at the back to drink, and started talking about the book storage that was being auctioned.

The treasure hunters were feeling emotional, saying that people who read books were getting fewer, and hypothesized that bookstores would disappear completely in the future.

"The disappearance of bookstores is still a small issue—if indoor malls are gone, d*mmit, that would be the worst," a treasure hunter named Bale sighed.

Indoor malls were some of the most bustling places in American history. The Beverly Center in Phoenix, built in 1982, could be said to represent the peak of the era of indoor malls.

But today, following the rise of e-commerce and outdoor malls, indoor malls in many cities in America had lost their popularity.

E-commerce was cheap, and it was healthier to shop at outdoor malls. For example, when someone was trying on clothes, their companions could enjoy a few minutes of sunshine.

Americans were emphasizing more and more on health and happiness. Many people had busy jobs, so they had to strive for every chance they could get if they wanted to enjoy a healthy life.

"Well, I feel that if palm trees were gone, then that would really be the worst," another treasure hunter said.

In Phoenix, the palm trees by the side of the road stood out in the city landscape. They were also one of the specialties of the city.

Unfortunately, since 2006, due to aging and diseases, the palm trees had been dying off. The urban planners had started replacing them with oak, mulberry, and other types of trees.

People were heatedly discussing the sports that were slowly disappearing from society. The one that had disappeared the most was horse racing.

Some of the animals were also disappearing; for example, the Desert Black Widow. Arizona was one of the main habitats of these spiders. They were vicious, aggressive, and had strong venom, causing lots of trouble.

According to the research from entomologists for the past two years, the number of Desert Black Widows in Arizona was dwindling. The population of some non-local, Brown Widows was increasing instead.

The Brown Widow was poisonous as well, but it was relatively less aggressive, so the threat to humans was less.

Speaking of that, some of the treasure hunters celebrated. "I won’t mourn the loss of spiders; my son, Mark, was once bitten by a darn spider. D*mmit, that b*stard almost killed him!"

As the treasure hunters casually chatted, Li Du drank a glass of ice-cold beer with them, and then brought Godzilla and Hans to the storage units of the book company. He wanted to check them out early and see if there was a chance of finding something good.



They love gold, and they love silver. Even more so, they love gems that dazzle, like stars across the skies. 
Firearms, jewelleries, and precious metals; A collector’s world will not be complete without antiques.  
Storage auctions, old goods trade, re-estate sales and gold-digging. But the truth is, if one wants to make money, then the supreme way is through searching for the legendary treasures. 
Holding the fort, there’s an ocelot, a wolf, and an Andes condor. At the side, there’s a loyal hound, an irascible ape, and an African honey badger. Who said that you can only rely on humans when treasure hunting?! 

The library was an old three-story building that use to be a factory. It was donated over fifty years ago. And was one of the older building in the area. It had been updated in the last few years with new walls, stairs, and wiring. However, they had kept the worn wood floors and it still had a cool, well-used and comfortable feel to it.

She walked over to the front counter where the librarian, Mrs. Chen, sat working on the computer.

"Hello, Lina. I heard you finally got assigned independent study. It took those kooks up in the English department long enough, heh?"

"You're telling me. I didn't know how many more of those idiots I could take without counseling." She thought about how that could be taken for a moment. "The students, that is, Mrs. Chen."

"Sure. Your class time doesn't start until tomorrow, so I assume you're here for your book."

"It finally came in?!"

She smiled and reached beneath the counter.

"Just this morning. Blood by GRAY."She shook her head but handed her the book. "Sometimes I wonder if I should be worried about you."

Lina laugh. The game and the book was sort of along the same vane but different. The book focuses more on how one could tell if you could make potions in real life. That is if you had blood. The author of the book offer list and guilds on taking a potion from a game and make money.

"Shoo, now," she said, waving her hands. "You're terrible."

She took the book and walked to the back corner of the room where the wide oak stairs led up to the second floor and her special reading spot. She ran her hand up the smooth banister as she walked up, loving the feel of the cool wood. The library had always been a quiet spot she had used to think and relax since she had come to the college three years ago. She used it to get away from all of the whispers and names.

At the top of the stairs, she walked through the maze of books to a dimly lit far corner. The shelves formed a natural hallway that prevented anyone from seeing the corner unless they actually walked through. It held a large beige chair big enough for two and a standing light next to it. She never worried about anyone being there because the idiots on campus barely walked through the reference books on the first floor, let alone the second floor where most of the romance, fiction, mystery, horror, fantasy, and science fiction books were held.

She set her bag on the floor beside the chair and plopped down, pulling her legs up under her. She didn't need the light yet, so she opened her new book and began reading.
