"Yes." Zolgrim said, in the most infuriating way possible.

Rha'fiiq sighed. "I despise you."

The tylark that was lounging on the throne happily skipped over to Eliara. "It's been too long Ellie! You never visit anymore!" She pouted.

"I was sold into slavery and about to be murdered for having my son." Eliara deadpanned.

"Oh, you always were a stick in the mud, you should have just broke the seal." 

"Seal?" Rha'fiiq interjected.

"Of course! She's a quarter succubus! There is simply no way Liliths' granddaughter could be killed by a low noble!" The tylark happily sold Eliara out.

"We will discuss this later." Rha'fiiq said, almost pleasantly. Eliara at least had the good sense to be ashamed.

"Now that that's finished, time for a title!" Zolgrim said.

"What do you mean, a title?" 

"Every general is given a title to identify them, Chadlinra'am was the bulwark, a wonderful servant to have defending places, his uses of barriers and fortresses were masterful!" Zolgrim smiled.

"Many thanks, my lord." Chad replied.

"No problem. I have just the title for you, my feline friend!"

" I am not your friend, I don't like you." Rha'fiiq replied, expression unchanging.

Zolgrim ignored him. "You shall be Strife, breaker of wills. May you forever show discontent within your enemies."

At Zolgrim's proclamation, Rha'fiiq felt his power surge and become chaotic, his stripes became jagged and his teeth sharpened.

"Once again, I am forced to thank you." Rha'fiiq said, running his tongue over his teeth.

"There is a price attached, however." Zolgrim tapped a manicured black nail on his chin.

"Name it, I despise owing favors."

"I am sending you to assassinate one of traunant's generals."

"Traunant is?...."

"Envy." 

"Ah."

"No one fucks with my servants and gets away with it, my pride won't allow it."

"It will be done."

"Also, you can't kill anyone except the general, his name is Groent." Zolgrim added.

"Why?"

"To scare the hell out of him, if you leave a trail of corpses, he won't care. But if you only kill the general and leave everything else, he will panic, thinking it was an inside job. The other generals will tear each other asunder and I will set his circle ablaze for having the audacity to attempt to poach my favorite servants." With every word, Zolgrim's eyes became more serpentine and his suit began to look like scales. With a deep breath, he shrank back into an unassuming human male.

"Apologies for the unsightly display. Will that be all?"

"No. With the higher difficulty I want something else." Rha'fiiq replied.

"Oh?"

"I want to meet Arachne."

"Done, dear boy" a voice whispered in his ear. When Rha'fiiq turned he was greeted by a giant spider that looked to be a black widow, where the usual hourglass shape would be, a beautiful tapestry was nailed into the carapace with silver nails that glowed with the aura of divinity. Instead of the eight eyes, instead there was a black haired woman attached to the spider at the hip. Her fingers were long black claws and, thankfully, her upper half was covered with a tight fitting top that shimmered with multicolored silk.

"Then I want a ton of blue-steel, that wrath metal, and a sample of your blood."

"No blood." Zolgrim immediately denied. 

"Then the other items are agreed upon? Fantastic." Rha'fiiq grinned.

"You never wanted the blood, did you? It only makes it easier to accept the other terms if you add something unreasonable. Greed would like you."

"So why do you desire to meet me, dear child? Cats taste funny but I doubt you are here to offer yourself." Arachne said, settling onto the ground, barely visible threads dissipating into nothingness, her sultry voice a disarmingly effective way to put her target at ease.

"I hate mental magic, makes my ears tickle." Rha'fiiq said, using mana to play a screeching sound in a high frequency in his mind, an effective counter to mental breaches.

Arachne shook her head. "Cease that damnable noise!"

"Stop trying to ensnare me." He set the threads that were settling around him, alight.

"Very well." Rha'fiiq felt the presence in his mind retreat.

"Now that the greetings are over, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, weaver." Rha'fiiq bowed, arachne curtsied, an interesting feat for a spider.

"The pleasure is mine. What business do you have with me?"

"I've been long interested in the strands spell, one of my associates is descended from you and I want to study it."

"What do you want it for?" She asked.

"To study it, I just said that." Rha'fiiq cocked his head.

"You don't want to use my strands to eviscerate and assassinate?"

"I use my fists and my partner here for fighting."

"Then weaving the strongest armor?" 

"Huh, that would be useful. That too."

Arachne seemed stunned. "Why do you wish to study it?"

"To understand it? Isnt that the point of studying something?" Rha'fiiq was just as confused as Arachne

Zolgrim burst out laughing. "Oh Rha'fiiq my boy! This is why I gave you your power so early, there is not a shred of Ambition!" 

Rha'fiiq felt his face heat up a little, yet his face remained stoic. "I merely wish to study what interests me."

Arachne chuckled. "Very well, if you do me a favor, I shall give you the strands spell."

"What is the favor?"

"I wish for you to retrieve a rare vintage of wine from Groent, it is called Noctua's tears and has been aging for three centuries."

Rha'fiiq was now in a bind, on one hand, he really wanted that spell, on the other hand he really wanted that wine. "Hmm" was all he said.

"Oh you are mean, my dear. Dangling such a prize in front of him. Quite the conundrum." Zolgrim grinned with a smile that had too many teeth.

"Fine!" Rha'fiiq growled and made the contract seal. "We have an accord."

They shook and the contract was settled.

This story is just my attempt at finally getting it out of my head.

one day our protagonist is sent to a strange world and must find his way without dying to any number of things, like giant snakes or arrogant young nobles with a whole lotta money, or a certain metal bastard who shall not be named.

I dont like unfinished stories so I can safely say I'll post until it's finished, I may not post daily but I will finish this story. Instead of meeting Shelly and Ellen in our usual café, we ate some deli sandwiches on a soft mat under the lovely trees that had the most beautiful flowers bloom in shades of blue.

"This is Miele," Ellen showed us some pictures of her newly born younger sister.

Miele was wrapped with many blankets like she was inside a cocoon.

"She's so cute," I observed her soft features.

She had the same gentle silver eyes as Ellen as she brightly smiled in the picture taken by Ellen when she visited her parent's house.

Did 'Rika' have any siblings?

When I visited my parent's house last time, I noticed the house was way too big for just a couple to live in.

There was no way that a middle-aged couple would need four bedrooms in one house unless I had siblings. Especially when I almost never visited them as my room remained undecorated and bare.

"Do you want to visit my house next weekend?" I asked them.

"Don't you have to ask Luke first?" Shelly reminded me of the necklace around my neck.

Fortunately, Luke made some adjustments so that we would be able to have some fair distance between us on campus. However, it meant that I couldn't leave campus on my own without Luke or Alex following along with me.

"I'll just drag him along," I confidently claimed.

I had my ways to bring Luke along the visit. I planned to push him into the teleportation gate with me as I pretended to inquire him about the functions of the gate for 'studying purposes'.

"Sure!" Shelly agreed.

"I've never been inside a regular house before in the third district," Shelly anticipated visiting my house. 

"Same," Ellen agreed with her glittering eyes.

We lifted our tea cups at the same time as we glanced at each other knowingly before laughing.

"You're back?" My mom opened the door to find the four of us that waited for her to let us in.

"Yea," I changed into a pair of slippers near the doorway.

It wasn't hard to convince Luke to come along with us.

"Luke," I called his name as I interrupted his sword practice with Alex after separating from Shelly and Ellen as our picnic finished.

"What do you need Rika?" Luke apologized to Alex before coming to greet me.

Luke was covered with sweat as he developed a nice lean figure from the exercise. 

He held a wooden sword in one of his hands that was enchanted with various mana spells to help grant a variety of advantages while fighting.

"Can I visit my parents this weekend?" I pouted as if I was suffering from homesickness.

"How else will we complete our usual sessions?" Luke declined as he needed to complete our intense study sessions during the weekends as they weren't really effective during the weekdays.

During the weekdays, I could barely concentrate when Luke tried to recap all the things we learnt earlier on in the day as most of my energy was already spent.

I didn't really think a normal human being could withstand an extra ten hours of lessons in addition to the normal 24-hour school day conducted in the classroom manipulated by space and time.

Maybe I was only able to withstand this torture from gradually increasing my study time ever since kindergarten.

It was obvious why most partners immediately dropped back to the lower ranking schools they came from after coming to our school as they couldn't adjust to the inhumane workload that was given to us on a daily basis.

"I've never been inside a room like this before," Shelly took a glance of the small room.

"So this is what a house in the third district is like," Ellen commented as she sat on the bed which sunk in quite easily. 

I smiled as I took a breath of the fresh air in the third district. I spun around to face my friends and my partner after I opened the window. 

"Welcome to the third district," I showed them around my empty room.

I was captured and put onto a stake to be lit on fire as part of the ongoing witch hunt conducted throughout the land. I had to do something. But, this life really sucked. 

This all started when I was accidentally killed by God. 

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to kill you. It was just that I was overworked lately by my superior and I just wanted some time to relax and vent my stress out," he confessed.

"So, while I was snacking, I accidently dropped one potato chip into the human realm where the child tripped over the potato chip onto a den of steep stairs." God guilty admitted.

"Because Magite isn't attuned to natural energies based on the element. It's neutral, which also means it can't tap into any of the elemental energies of the world. This is where basically a color-coded gem comes into play. The purer the gen the better. There shouldn't be any impurities. Some items already have the required prerequisites, like this stick. Unfortunately, due to that fact, we are creating a lesser tool. Easy and cost-effective, but is extremely limited. Now, engraving is basically using a method to craft in the runes. We could use the flame but it's not a hundred percent effective. It the easiest method or you could chip in the runes. It's much more time consuming but highly effective. The flame method can be effective as long as the burning goes deep enough. Any question?"
Annixon shook his head.
"Ah yes before I forget. The runes are done in such a way that it compensates for the individual. Finding the right runes for that is where the real trick comes in. The tool I will be making will basically only be usable by me. Certain everyday use tools, like for example the stove lighter uses extreme elemental cores, like the Hellfire flower making it universally usable, but only a petal is usually used. Now I remember you claiming that you have a perfect memory. I would love to see that in action. There are over thirty-five thousand runes in existence and still counting."

She grabbed her engraving tool and very tiny runes started to burn into the stick. After half an hour she puts it down, "This is a piece of crap, but you get the gist. Now you have to find the combination of runes that works for you."
Annixon shook his head, "You know that book is a bunch of overblown drivel."
"How dare you. That was a renowned author who went out of his way over his entire life span to gather it all."
"Mmm, you seem to misunderstand me. I am saying there is a method that could encapsulate all of the runes into a simple, let's call it a…script." 
"You are going to show me something unbelievable again, aren't you?"
Annixon placed his pinkie on the corner of his mouth and smiled mischievously, "Maybe. Hear me out. I think I might have developed a method that would not only streamline it but make that exact same tool accessible to everyone."
"If you claim you have figured out away, then you might have found solved the biggest problem for rune crafters in general."
"Okay let me demonstrate to you."
He started using the engraving tool by first creating baseline earth elemental rune then from it, he made patterns that twisted and turned then branched off and became rectangular followed by a bunch of straight lines and triangles. Within fifteen minutes he was done. It was surprisingly simple.
He picked it up and gave it a whirl. It blasted way more sand that it was supposed to, "Oops, probably should have placed a limiter."
Juliza grabbed the stick and tried it herself. The same result. It blasted way more sand than was necessary. She was shocked beyond belief and dropped the stick, "What are you? Do you have any idea what…WHAT THE HELL!? You solved the rune problem. How exactly did you do this?"
Annixon scratched his beard, "I based it off a method we used in our world. We called it coding. The premise is simple. You allocate memory and from there you tell it what to do. Now, this does go off feeling. I do a quick mental test to see how the magic would flow and correspond accordingly. Basically, each and every strand allows the magic to flow in a certain way. Remember when I told you the gate theorem. This is similar. Magic gets character when it flows and clashes in certain ways. The end result? The stick."

"You could sell this, and nobody would be able to copy this, because even I don't understand the theory behind. Ha, I knew I was right to follow you. Do you think you could teach this to me?"
"It's gonna be difficult, you have to be able to feel the flow of magic and understand how it incorporates into the grander design of the script. "
"I will try my absolute best, and become your personal rune crafter."
"You really don't need to go that far. If you want to learn something do it for yourself. First, just study the script I placed on this and try and feel how the magic moves in it. Once you have that down, I will start you with phase two of training."
He smiled and gave her a curt nod.
He went back to his room and fell unto the bed. He was elated. It has been a stupidly productive day. First a gifted blacksmith and now the secret to real tool crafting. He was going to make tools cheaper and better than any rune crafter in town. An excellent way to make money. He moved around a lot to enjoy the softness of the bed. Tonight he was going to sleep well.

Buying books—these two words that seemed simple was, in fact, terribly tough for people with poor family situations.
The soldier always had the desire to improve himself but was faced with financial constraints. He had thought that he would probably need about two to three years' time to be able to buy all the books mentioned by Qiao Nan.
Nevertheless, if he went to secondhand stores, especially if the price was not expensive, the soldier expressed that if he tightened his belt, he would be able to buy all these books immediately!

The possibilities were endless; it was even more complex than a chaotic physics system.
However, Lu Zhou felt like no matter what the motive was behind the system, it probably wasn't some kind of boring principle like "humans must solve their own problems". 
There had to be a deeper motive behind this system that came from nowhere.
Suddenly, Lu Zhou had a strange idea.
What if the Zhou's conjecture about Mersenne primes is only a practice question, and the Goldbach's conjecture… or even the Navier–Stokes equation is the system giving me "homework"… or rather, "research projects"?
And the general points give me a way to buy the answers, almost like a supplementary exam.
In this case, when all of my subjects reach Level 10, will the system give me a "graduation letter" or maybe an "acceptance letter" for a higher academic level?
Thinking about it this way… I'm not a professor as I haven't even graduated from the system yet!

A tenured researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study was different than a tenured professor at Princeton. The title itself was one of the highest honors in academia. There were less than 30 tenured researchers among the top four universities. 
For example, Einstein was one of Princeton's tenured researchers. This went to show how high the threshold was.
Also, unless there were special circumstances, a lifelong honor like this would almost never be awarded to a young scholar…
So, when Lu Zhou heard Molina's ridiculous statement, he laughed. "Tenured researcher? I'll take that as a hopeful wish?" 
Molina smiled and said, "Of course you can, but you do realize I'm saying that you look like an old man when you're thinking?"
Lu Zhou shook his head and said, "Don't say that. In terms of age, you're older than me."
Molina: "…"
