The story of a Comic Book Collector who is brought to a world where he finds out that he is one of the special people who can earn experience and level up to become a superhero.

Earlier that day…
"Do you think Ara will be alright?" Rin asked Midori as they entered the elevator taking them to Midori's cousin's office on the twelfth floor.
The two of them were in one of the many tall buildings on Otome Road, a huge area of Ikebukuro in Tokyo that was a major shopping and cultural center for animation and comics. It's located in the immediate West of Sunshine City near Ikebukuro Station.
This area in Tokyo had been a must-g-to place for all anime and comic geeks since the 1980s. A branch of a very popular anime store Animate was there, and most of the comic conventions and manga revolutions were held there.
It was natural for the place to be swarmed by people in costumes at a daily basis. In fact, not to see cosplayers walking around would be strange. It was also natural for the area to be where popular comic publishing companies had their main offices such as where they were now.
After they made Ara go back home, Midori and Rin volunteered to take the finished manuscript to this office. They had asked Miharu if she wanted to join them, but she couldn't because her mother wanted to go out shopping with her.
"I hope so," Midori answered.
The two of them knew that their friend had been through a lot – like totally a lot, and they were worried about her. But they had enough self-awareness that some problems could only be resolved by the people themselves. They could only be there, ready to lend a helping hand when asked or be present when needed, but they couldn't do anything else.
It's not as if Ara was having a normal girl's problem. To say that her concerns were out of this world was not entirely untrue.
Gods and demigods.
Who would have thought that they would meet them in real life? Never in their wildest dream had they ever imagined they'd experience something like this. But they also knew that they were blessed, not just because they encountered heavenly beings but they were able to be friends with them in this lifetime.
"I feel sorry for her and Kou. I know they have so many issues between them, but I want my ship to be alright again," Rin muttered sadly, and Midori reached out and gave her a gentle pat on the back.
"They will be," Midori told her.
She had no idea where her confidence to answer the question came from, but she just believed deep within her heart that it would be the case. Just what her and the others' reactions were when they heard the story of Alencica and Kresnik, she just would like to believe that a love like that could not just fade away.
Ara might be hurt, but they knew that she understood why things happened as they did. Even if Kresnik and the others had faults, they knew that they loved her and never meant to hurt her and she knew that too. It was why the discovery of the truth hurt everyone and not just Ara.
"Things like this take time. But I'm sure, the two of them will be together again in the end," Midori told Rin who cheered up a bit.
The elevator stopped and the two of them stepped out as they continued to chat.
"Anyway, do you think Ara will still want to be a comic artist?" Rin asked again as she scanned their friend's work from the folder. "It would be a pity if she doesn't. Look at these, they're so good."
The real-life drawings in full color popped from the pages, and Rin who's a hardcore geek couldn't help but fangirl over them.
"Well, it's really up to Ara. But of course, it will be awesome if she can," Midori said hopefully, although she knew that it wouldn't be good to think this way also.
Ara was not from their world. Kazehaya Gin had also told them about Ged, and that Ara was a princess there. Also, her father who was the King of Heaven was waiting for Ara on the other side. There's a big possibility that she would choose to go back to her own world. It would be selfish of them to impose their own wishes on her.
It would be sad if Ara chose to return to Ged. But Midori and the others had already discussed this and decided that regardless of what Ara would do and where she would choose to stay, they would never protest and just keep supporting her.
It was what friendship with her meant.
"By the way," Rin began as she frowned at the group sketch that Ara did. "Isn't Ara's name in Ged, Alinea?"
Midori nodded. "Why did you ask?"
"Because…" Rin's voice trailed off as she showed the drawing to Midori who suddenly stopped walking as she took the sketchbook from Rin with a dumbfounded expression.
They both stared at the group picture and then they exchanged looks of wonder as if to say "Could it be?"
They studied each and every person in Ara's sketchbook.
"Oh. My. God."
They reached a page they hadn't seen before at the back, and saw a colored portrait of two people; one of them was someone who looked like the older prince but had different coloration and aura. The man was a true beauty that gave off a very mysterious air about him. The other person next to the silver-haired man was the red-head warrior Ara drew before: Ivan of Kres.
"Is this really a comic book, or real portraits of people from that other world?" Rin asked in awe.
"I think… they're real people – people that she missed and thought she'd never see again from that world," Midori answered quietly, and the both of them felt a bit teary-eyed imagining how Ara must have felt as she drew them.
"If they're real, then I wish she could meet them again," Rin uttered as she placed an arm around Midori's shoulders to comfort her.
They brought the manuscript to Midori's cousin who thanked them a lot. However, since Ara was still unsure about the future, the editor promised not to show anyone the work for now and would wait for Ara's answer patiently.
"No problem. Please tell Ara she can take her time deciding. It's her future after all," Midori's cousin assured them before handing them some coupons.
"What's this?"
"There's a newly opened Cat Café three streets from here. They gave these coupons. You'd get one cake free when you buy a drink," he said before saying goodbye.
Afterwards, the two of them left the building and went straight to the café. Both Rin and Midori didn't have anything else to do and they still didn't want to go home, so they decided to go there.  
"It's a good thing Hiroaki's not here. I don't think we can come here if he is. He'll complain it's not manly," Midori laughed as soon as they were served with their drinks and a free slice of cake.
However, instead of laughing with her, Rin suddenly sat up straight with a shocked expression on her face, alarming her. "What happened?" she asked as she turned around to see what made her freeze like that.
A very tall red-head man with a pair of familiar jade-green eyes, wearing silver armor walked in the café with a bunch of cosplayers. Rin and Midori couldn't help but gasp as the man crossed the room to sit by the table next to them.
It's the man in Ara's sketchbook, in the flesh.
The two girls thought they were dreaming but they were not. They continued to watch the man and listen to his strange conversation with the others. It seemed he was totally confused about this world, and a suspicion formed in their minds.
Unable to take it anymore, Rin stood up and approached. "Are you Ivan of Kres?"
Of course, when they heard the answer, the two of them knew that fate played a trick on them again, introducing another person from that other place.
"Yes, I am the Flame Emperor, Ivan of Kres…"


She was the Princess who had to die…

Ara elbowed Ryuu in the rib. "Darling, you are scaring the people away. Learn how to smile."

"Darling, if I smile, they will totally forget why they exist," Ryuu countered smugly, so Ara had no choice but to sigh in defeat. There's no sense making sense with this stubborn husky anyway.

Well, he kind of had a point anyway…

Ara looked towards the nurse's station where nurses kept bumping into each other or hitting the tables and making things fall because they were busy giving Ryuu demure glances.

"See? They get distracted like that with me not smiling – what more if I do?"Ryuu told her with amusement in his voice. Then again, mischief danced in his blue gaze and he finally sent one bright smile the nurses' way.

CRASH!

BANG!

Ara watched as chaos ensued in the station and she quickly pulled the naughty husky to the side and gave him a glare.

"What? Who told me to smile?" he asked her innocently.

"I did okay? It's my fault," Ara told him as she dragged him away.

10 Classic Superheroes, Ranked By Their Origin Stories

Not everyone is born a hero. In the case of superheroes, it's a singular moment that typically sets the individual on the path to becoming a force for good. That's what is known as the origin story. Whether it's an alien with unbelievable powers or a regular Earthling who's just trying to do the best with their natural talents, each comic book protagonist has an experience that leads them on their heroic path. And boy, have there been a lot of these told for both classic and modern heroes. 

The comic book medium has been going strong for more 75 years, and over those decades hundreds, if not thousands, of superheroes have been introduced. Typically these origin stories have been seen across a variety of media by both passionate comic book fans and people who are just looking for a good tale. And just because a hero is successful doesn't mean that they got off to the best start with their origin stories, but when these tales are told right, they're the stuff of legend. Here are some of the most famous superheroes of all time ranked by how great and epic their origin stories are.

1. The X-Men

Of course, each individual X-Men has their own unique stories, but together the team's origin tale is a classic. As mutants, they were all born with their abilities rather than imbued with them by science, magic or aliens. Consequently, many of these people face mistrust and bigotry from the general population who view them as freaks of nature. However, despite their persecution, they still use their powers to protect the innocent. Brought together by Charles Xavier, the X-Men not only combat threats ranging from fanatical humans to fellow mutants, but their overall mission is to fight for the rights of their fellow mutants and usher in a world of acceptance and peace. So even though their overall story is based in a superhero world, it's memorable because their goals are similar to what many of us want to achieve in real life.

2. The Flash (Barry Allen)

In the 1950s, DC Comics decided to relaunch several of their most successful superheroes from the 1940s as new individuals. The Flash was the first to receive this treatment, being reintroduced in 1956 as forensic scientist Barry Allen. While working late in his lab one night, he was struck by lightning, which subsequently knocked him into shelf full of chemicals. After waking up, he discovered he could run at superhuman speeds, and donning the red and yellow costume that's become much more recognizable than his predecessor's, Barry became the new Flash and built a quite a supporting cast. Visually it's one of the best origins on this list, but it also has a distinct sci-fi feel to it that few DC hero origins had before it. Many non-comic book fans saw this origin told for the first time back in October on the CW series The Flash.

3. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)

Green Lantern was the second DC hero to be revitalized during the Silver Age of comic books. This time around, test pilot Hal Jordan inherited a special ring after it was bequeathed to him by a dying alien named Abin Sur who had crash-landed on Earth. Unlike the magical ring that the Golden Age Green Lantern wore, Hal Jordan's ring was a product of science that allowed him to use his willpower to fly and make solid constructs with his mind. Inheriting Abin Sur's legacy, Hal became the new Green Lantern of Sector 2814, and the first human to ever join the Green Lantern Corps. Like The Flash, it's memorable for its sci-fi feel, but also to due to how this Green Lantern inherited his heroic legacy from a mysterious visitor (which would later be repeated with Kyle Rayner) whereas his predecessor Alan Scott just sort of stumbled upon his power.

Seen On Screen: In the flawed, but right now only, Green Lantern origin movie with Ryan Reynolds, which hit theaters in 2011.

4. Iron Man

Although the location for Iron Man's origin has changed several times throughout the decades, the story itself has not. While demonstrating some of his creations abroad, Tony Stark was injured and taken captive by enemy soldiers. While in captivity, he was forced to build weapons for these terrorists, but with the help of scientist Ho Yinsen, he built a mechanical suit that allowed him to defeat his captors and escape to freedom. With a renewed perspective on life, Tony uses his new armor to protect the innocent as Iron Man. Not only is it one of best redemption origin stories and full of action as Tony escaped his imprisonment, it also showed that not everyone who becomes a superhero starts out as a moral individual. Sometimes takes a nudge (or in Tony's case nearly dying from shrapnel in your heart) to discover your true potential.

Seen On Screen: Stark's destiny was brought to life by Jon Favreau in 2008's Iron Man, with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead.

5 Captain America

Captain America's origin story wouldn't work well as an anti-drug PSA, but it's an excellent story of trumping over the odds. Steve Rogerswanted to serve in World War II, but his scrawny body and ill health prevented him from enlisting. Fortunately for him, he was chosen as the test subject for Project Rebirth, and after being injected with the Super Soldier Serum, his body became the epitome of physical perfection. Soon after the scientist who created the serum was assassinated by a Nazi spy, leaving the serum's formula lost and making Steve the only one of his kind. He subsequently became Captain America to not only to help defeat the Axis forces, but to become one of the most well-known superheroes in the present-day after being frozen for decades. As mentioned earlier, it's memorable for featuring the little guy rising up to beat the odds, but it also helps that it was an important reflection of the era he was created in and even inspired good to defeat evil in real life.

words? Exactly? One of the novelties of the Internet era is that journalism has been freed from the constraints of the printed page. Instead of conforming to the conventions of the column, the quarter page, the half page—limits that often meant unfortunate last-second cuts—the writer could now make the story as short or as long as seemed right.

But what is right? A regular reader of The Guardian online, I often find its featured articles tiresomely long and rambling. You scroll down, imagining the piece almost over, and instead it goes on, and on. There should have been some warning at the beginning telling you how many words lie ahead. So, no sooner does the Internet give us oceans of space than we realize that length was never just a problem of column inches. As with the editing process, which I discussed in a previous post, there is the question of an understanding between writer and reader about what kind of reading experience is being offered. Readers like to suppose that their favorite writers—journalists, novelists, or poets—are absolutely independent, free from all interference, but the truth is that if an author indulges his own private idiolect or goes on for too long, he can at best expect to divide readers into those who admire him slavishly, whatever he throws at them, and those who set him aside in desperation. At worst he will be left with no readers at all.

Is there a relationship between a writer's respect for these conventions and the content or tone of what he writes, the kind of opinions we can expect him to have? I have recently been re-reading Dickens, who published his novels in weekly or monthly installments with strict limits on both the number of words in each installment (around 18,500 for a monthly and 4,700 for a weekly) and the total number of installments (twenty for a monthly, thirty or more for the weekly). Many other novelists published in this way of course, but few relished the form as Dickens did. His contemporary Trollope would write an entire book before allowing its serialization to begin, so anxious was he to stay in control, while Thomas Hardy intensely disliked working for the popular magazines, with the propriety they demanded, and reserved the right to publish an uncensored version in a single volume when the serialization was through. By contrast, Dickens did not worry about having the plot entire in his head before he started, and enjoyed the constant feedback from readers, which arguably influenced the shape his stories took. I'm fairly sure that you mean to have "not" in there instead of one of the versions of "hot". I'm guessing it's an OCR issue. "not" is far too common a word to be left out...

Initially, Sia was excited to see the list of activities but then after reading few pages, Sia lost her interest and was no longer willing to look at the book so she placed the book down with a dejected look.
Seeing Sia's action, Yang Jie asked "What's the matter sister Sia? why are you not reading the book anymore?"
Shaking her hands, Sia said "There's nothing interesting in it. Everything is only about books, projects, and other things. It's like the book was specially made for Great Li"

Looking at Sia's dejected face, Shen Yi could not help but ask curiously "Then what kind of activities do you like?"

Hearing the list of activities that Sia said, Shen Yi and the others lost their smile and looked at Sia in disbelief.
Looking Sia weirdly, Yang Jie asked: "Are you...really a girl?"
Glaring at him, Sia retorted "What, can't girl's do such things?"
Yang Jie: "Of course they can but it's just that.....the girls in here are too sensitive"
Realization suddenly dawned on Sia. Nodding her head she said with some understanding "That's true. I sometimes doubt whether they were from the dinosaur family?"
"Huh? Dinosaur?" the four guys asked in unison while Mu Jun looked at Sia curiously
Seeing the boys confused gaze, Su Yan explained "Because she read somewhere that dinosaurs were unreasonable, stupid and are very scared of little animals like rats and cockroaches. So she refers them to as dinosaurs"

In conclusion, I was progressing way faster of what I had planned, or wanted to. I'm not complaining though, it was only natural for me to give it my all in the 'race' I was participating. Which brings me to this busy day. 

"Alex good to see you, how did all go?" I immediately asked. The time was limited, and I needed to hear good news. 

"Boss! Everything went great, I selected the amount of artist you wanted. All of them are good and will start on monday" He said once he saw me enter. 

I didn't liked when he called me 'boss', but I learned that complaining makes it worse. Besides I had to get used to it, after buying the comic publisher company I'll be called that often. 

"Perfect, you already know what stories we'll be publishing, and the schedule we'll be following, right?" 

"Yes, we'll have 'Batman' released every two weeks now. 'Wonder woman', 'Doctor Strange' and 'Spiderman' will be the projects the new artist will take under the scripts you left, and will be released once every month" 

"That's right. We still need more people to work here, so I'll have to depend on you for the time being. At least until we get a footing with our new brand" I apologized. 

"Hahaha, don't worry boss. The promise that I'll have my own comic run released under this brand, motivates me to work hard for the success of it" He said with conviction. 

Like every passionate artist, he preferred the possibility of getting his own work published instead of more money. Which works for me. 

"Well, I'll trust you then. I would like to stay for longer, but I have to go immediately. I'll see you on monday" I said my goodbyes and then I walked towards my mother who was waiting for me in the car. 

"Sam are you ready?" My mother asked me with a worried face once I entered the car.

"Yeah mom, don't worry. I got this" I said with confidence.

"Very well. I'll help as usual, but it will be on you" She said with a light smile and then started the car to go on our way. 

In the other meetings, my mother left me handle the terms while she supported me from the side. It was my responsibility to negotiate, and I could only be grateful that my family was so blindly supportive of it, because I sure wouldn't if I was in their shoes. 

It wasn't the first meeting we had with studios to get my books made into movies, and now we'll be reuniting with people working under the same company where I got my work made cartoons. 

It took us a while to arrive thanks to the vehicular congestion of the city, but we still were on time. The guards outside let us pass once they confirmed our identities. And after some indications we were in our way to the meeting place. 

Inside the room there was Christopher, the head of the studio, along with a pair of middle aged men who I assume were his advisors. 

As the 'experts' we were on this kind of situations, making some small talk to start things felt more natural to us. It wasn't as complicated when you knew what to expect. 

"Ok, let's cut the chase" Christopher said in a serious tone once we were done with the formalities. 

"Like you already know, our studio wants to buy the movie rights to your books. 

I'm being told that you want a similar deal to the one you got with our tv division. A five year period to get the movies in production, with ten years in total of us holding the rights, including the majority of the merchandise rights"

"That's right. And in exchange for it, I'll be aloud to distribute indefinitely the movies via internet under my own name, and under any company in which I'm the sole owner or majority share holder" I said calmly. 

The internet at this time was barely useful in comparison to the potential I knew it has. This kind of deal was appealing to them and perfect for me. 

"Exactly" He said with narrowed eyes, "When I heard about that deal at the moment, I thought that this in particular was a weird petition, especially when it was stated the minimum quality the video has to have, among other conditions, to be allowed in the first place. 

Naive was the adjective associated with you when you came back and extended the deal made with other properties you own. 

But now, after some time passed and the internet keeps improving, I can't help but thinking that we were tricked somehow" 

He had his eyes on me the whole time. I suppose that he was looking for any clue that confirmed his suspicions. 

Unfortunately for him, I was prepared. Since the beginning I knew how out of the box the condition I asked for was. I was beyond surprised that it got accepted without further discussions in the first place. 

"There's no trick. I'm just betting that the internet will make great advances in the near future, and it will be possible for anyone with internet access to see videos in great quality" I admitted. 

"So young and with such vision... I don't know if that will happen with us still alive, but it's commendable to bet on it. 

Then, if you're right we'll spend a big amount of money and time in making those movies as successful as we can, while you will benefit of that work with no risk associated. Isn't that a bit unfair?" He asked with some curiosity. 

"Not that all. As you just said it's a bet of mine, there's no way I could know if what I said it's even possible in the first place. 

Besides, the studio is who will receive all of the benefits, while I'll get nothing in the short to medium future. And even if I'm right, I can't say if having those rights would be profitable in the end" I replied with a self mocking intonation. 

Of course I was lying. I know how the technologies will develop, and that fact was the foundation of my future plans. 

"The deal includes that you'll get a percentage of the merchandise we license though" One of the advisors mumbled when the silence reigned for a moment. He was ignored though. 

"You're really interesting young one" Christopher commented after a while with an amicable smile on his face. 

"Excuse me... " My mother said suddenly, "Our position is clear, so I'm curious to know if do you agree or not with the terms proposed?" 

Her tone was somewhat harsh, which took them by surprise. Christopher even twitched his lips in discomfort, although it didn't take long for him to reorganize his thoughts. He coughed lightly and returned to his 'business mode'. 

"Well, as you know this meeting in particular is about the first volume of the 'princesses collection'. But we're aware that there's other studios interested in your other works, especially 'Harry Potter' which is becoming a phenomenon. 

So I wanted to meet you personally to propose a especial kind of deal... What do you think of the idea of working with us in exclusivity?" He asked with the same serious tone from before. 

It was an interesting offer, but I'm guessing that he already knows the problem with that. It just didn't work with my plans. 

"I'm not interested" I replied quickly. I didn't want to be rude, but staying quiet was even worse. 

"Why not? You haven't even heard our terms!" 

"Exactly, if you knew what we're offering you would..." 

"I understand" Christopher said with a defeated look, interrupting his consultants which were left with surprised faces before they could continue. 

"If the future you're betting on comes to fruition... You're betting that there will be no need for the old distribution chain. With the ability of directly reaching people's computers, it could open the doors to others competitors. 

You plan to be part of that, don't you?" He asked with a small smirk. 

He's smart. There were some major details left out that I could point out, but he got the general idea. Which was the reason why I wanted to work with different studios, so even if I shared the distribution rights, no entity would posses all of my 'work'. 

"That's right, I'm glad you understand" I smiled back. I wasn't afraid of him knowing about it, there's nothing he could do. He can't even be sure if what I said was going to happen in the first place. 

"Well, now that we understand each other maybe we could reach a deal that benefit both parties" 

That did get my attention. Even if he doesn't believe in my 'foresight', he now knows my motivations. So from now on, any deal he offers will be worth of taking into consideration at the very least.

Samuel Bane, a guy who was just a normal 23 year old in another life, was living in a new world with his memory intact.
