Jiang Dejun and his wife were urged back due to work. The reason needless to say was due to [Stories About The Ming Dynasty] suddenly emerging into fame.

Discovering the author Bright Moon was supposedly from Shanghai, the excitement and interest of all the publishing houses in Shanghai were naturally aroused.

Currently there were few in the industry who didn't know about the novel!

The hottest topic on the Internet right now was -"Did you read [Stories About The Ming Dynasty] today?"

The new legend of online novels! Today the number of hits on it had exceeded a million!

Just the traffic it brought in alone had almost broken the Tianya Forum servers!

As [Stories About The Ming Dynasty] became more and more popular on the Internet and more and more popular in reality, more and more publishers and retailers began to focus on the book. Executives began trying to contact Tianya to find a way to contact the author and some even resorted to looking for hackers to track Jiang Cheng's address.

Unfortunately, they underestimated Jiang Cheng. After all, staying in the United States for so many years in his past life and having been in contact with future tech, he had a few tricks up his sleeve to prevent people tracking him down. He created a bunch of fake temporary emails and routed his internet connection through a bunch of VPN's. 

He was unaware but Jiang Cheng's actions killed the arrogance of those domestic hackers who usually held proud gazes, and let them deeply understand their own shortcomings as they ran head first into Microsoft's brand new PPTP VPN network. Running into it now ahead of time before it became mainstream, China's hacking underworld actually gained a boost as they developed ahead of time, indirectly driving the vigorous development of computer technology in China. And a few years later, Jiang Cheng would even profit because of this, though he didn't realize it now. 

Xu Guoqing, Chairman and the main shareholder of Southern Weekly Publishing House, was also amongst those eagerly searching for Bright Moon.

The performance of Southern Weekly had dropped so badly in the past two years that it was in need of revitalizing before it truly fell into deep trouble and it was at this time that [Stories About The Ming Dynasty] had appeared. Xu Guoqing was attracted at first sight by [Stories About The Ming Dynasty] not because he was a fan of the book, but because he saw the vast money making potential of it!

This was the kind of work that could save their publishing house. Xu Guoqing wanted it and Southern Weekly needed it!

Southern Weekly was also the publishing house where Jiang Cheng's father Jiang Dejun worked, 

It was formerly known as Southern Publishing House but Southern Weekly was one of their core magazines, having been extremely popular for some time in the 1990's and due to the brand recognition it provided they had eventually decided to rename the publishing house after it.

However despite it's fancy new name, the performance of Southern Weekly had fallen sharply, exiting it's honeymoon period as it headed for the sunset.

In Jiang Cheng's view, the main reason for the decline in Southern Weekly's performance was that it's thinking was too old. Southern Weekly mainly dealt with documentary reports, tracking current affairs at home and abroad and asking experts and scholars to give reports.
 
This was very popular in the last century, because at that time people had very little access to information, only resorting to newspapers and magazines; But now there were more and more channels of information, which were ultimately faster and cheaper. For paper media to compete would only get harder and more futile.

When people could just search for what they wanted to know without much hustle for free, why would they want to pay for your magazines and newspapers? Which were neither fast or up to date.

Even if they didn't want to go online, they could just watch those news channels. Why go and buy magazines and newspapers?

As a result, mergers were becoming more and more prevalent. There were fewer and fewer small and medium-sized publishing houses, with most either being annexed by the main titans or closing down. Those who didn't want to go bankrupt, switched to do something else.

The most excessive thing was that Jiang Dejun had been gone for almost a month, and he still hadn't come back?

Seeing that they hadn't had much work recently, he actually went and approved himself a month-long vacation.

And since they had already paid....It would have been a waste to cancel, so they went.  After all they  rarely got so much alone time together.

The two of them enjoyed the gentle sunshine, golden sand and warm waves of Hainan and even went as far as to turn off their phones, only switching them on an hour a day.
 
So when they learned what was going on from an angry Xu Guoqing, they were stunned. 

[Stories About The Ming Dynasty] was tens of chapters deep but Bright Moon still hadn't appeared yet, was he really so generous as to let everyone read his book for free?

Publishers naturally didn't believe so, they thought that Bright Moon was fishing amongst them for the highest bid. So publishers secretly raised the price tag in their hearts, they couldn't wait for the appearance of Bright Moon.

Even Jiang Dejun, upset about his holiday, after reading [Stories About The Ming Dynasty] couldn't help admit that it was a rare book, destined to create waves. 

But then thinking of what he was missing out on, he couldn't help but feel slightly aggrieved. 

Of all the times for this Bright Moon character to appear it just had to be now huh, dammit. 

But what he didn't expect was that when he got home, he would run into the very person he was cursing.

Jiang Cheng a screenwriter is reincarnated to 2001, into the seventeen-year-old body of another Jiang Cheng. 

Clutching onto the dreams of his previous life he attempts to succeed where he previously failed. 

He starts from scratch, as a small-time screenwriter writing television shows and movie scripts.

As I previously said , the purpose of this book is to free myself . From my thoughts . By thinking them over before writing them , and analyzing them with the cold reasoning Sherlock Holmes himself uses . Without being emotional . Because everything that is emotional is opposite to that cold judgement . I know one of the chapters made me cry so bad , but that is because that wound is this open . It hasn't healed yet . And it won't so soon . But the others were long healed . I just wanted to remember and to live throught those moments again . Those were made to make me more understandable by you , my reader , and to feel like I'm really getting rid of any hate for them . 
This is the first book I've ever published , and I'm doing it every day . However , this isn't the first time I write my thought . You name it : diary , notepad , lines , songs , poems . The most disturbing ones were for the notepad on my computer . I usually cried while writing them , for I put my very heart and opinion into them . But as time flew , I deleted some of them , scared someone could find them , but even more because they were impulses . That short impulse made me feel so many emotions , which gradually calmed me by writing them . So I deleted them . I kept only 2 . Which are my general opinion about daily topics . I will gradually repost them here , so you can see how a short impulse can generate so many words and so many emotions . 
This book also serves as an exercise itself . Funny , right ? It's like a track daily diary , were I put my most personal opinions and give the earnest pieces of advice , leaving a mark on this earth and life , while learning how to love myself . It's the evidence that I'm trying everyday to stop procrastinating , to growing , to glowing , and to improving more other things . This is also my way of communicating deeper topics , which I cannot bring myself to say with my own mouth . As a surprise , this is my first attempt of writing something freely , before getting into designing characters . I want to make a story composed 100% by me . I don't aspire to be a miracle writer , like JK Rowling , but at least I can do something that pleases me , and others , without feeling like I should put the latter one on a pedestal . How I actually do . I don't want to pursue a writing life , because in the future I would be feeding some mouths , so I need to make a living . I'm not saying writers don't earn much , but before that there are lots of ups and downs , and I need to take care of people who took care of me .

The sound of keyboard filled the room. The room was dark and only the light coming out of the computer could be seen.

The man working on the computer was old, probably in his mid 40s. He had a shaggy beard and his eyes were tired of life. He looked more like a beggar than someone working in the office.

His name was Ren. He is a author, no, he was a author. He now only write articles for a third grade newspaper, how could he still call himself a author.

There was a time when Ren was still a glorious author living his dream life. That was, when he was 21 years old.

It was the time when Ren was the most worried about his future. His parents wanted him to get a good office job which was stable and pay well but Ren didn't wanted to do office work.

The occupation he aspires to be ever since he was a child was a author. He loved reading books since he was young and that pushed him towards becoming a author.

To prove to his parents that he will be able to earn money as a author, he entered a competition hosted by a publishing company.

He poured his heart out on a novel and wrote it for several weeks nonstop and finally entered the competition. He wanted to win the competition but he didn't knew if he will be able to win or not but luck was on his side.

He unexpectedly won that competition and his book was going to be published. It was like a dream come true for him. 

He was able to prove to his parents that he can make a living as a author and his parents were all smiles when they saw the cheque he received for publishing his book.

Next was his book release, it was more nervous back then. He wanted his book to do well but he was also nervous thinking whether his book will sell or not but luck was again on his side.

His book became one of the best sellers and he unexpectedly won a literary award for it.

After that, his everyday life was filled with media interviews and autograph signing events.

He became famous because of this and he also started appearing on reality shows and radio broadcasts. 

It was like he was living as a superstar. 'The youngest genius in literature' fits well with the public, So he got more and more famous.

He was living his dream life but the problem was his next book. His next book was a test for him to see if he was here to stay or not. 

At that time, his success has blown up his head. He thought that as long as he wrote a decent book, it will surely be a bestseller.

He thought that his books will sell just because of his fame but he forgot that books sell through their content not fame.

His next book was a disaster. The publishing company did huge promotional activities to promote his book but it all went down in drain.

He was harshly criticised for his sloppy writing and weak plot. Several people wrote mean comments on his social media accounts. 

From a star, he was now just a failed author.

He received a major backlash after his book failed. His publishing house cancelled his contract and the parents who were smiling happily seeing the cheque previously kept saying that his decision was wrong and he should have listened to them. 

His downfall began from there. His next few books were also disasters. He wasn't able to write like before. It was like his talent had been stolen by someone.

After that, he did various things to survive. He wrote genre novels and he even worked as a screenwriter but all of them failed.

He became depressed after that. His failures kept stinging him in the back. He even tried to suicide but he was too afraid to do that.

He can only drown himself in alcohol. With that, he became a alcoholic. He lived like that for many years.

It was only when he reached his 40s that he was tired of his life. All of his sorrows were devoured by alcohol and he now wanted to live a better life. 

He again started to write after that. He wrote for nearly six months and finally completed a story but no publisher was ready to publish it.

He already had a bunch of failures before and no publishing house wanted to take that risk even if the story was good.

He again felt despair because of this but he knew he have to survive somehow. That's why he got a job at this second rate newspaper.

He had to write hundreds of articles daily just to survive but what can he do, only a black company would accept someone like him.

'It's already 12:55 A.M.'

Ren stopped typing and rubbed his sleepy eyes as he glanced at the time. The clock was nearing towards 1:00 A.M. which means that a new day had already begun.

'Today I became 47 years old. I am closing towards my 50s.'

Today was Ren's birthday and it was his 47th birthday and in just three years, he will be in his 50s. It was a sad truth for him.

Ren was already a old man but he didn't have anyone to rely on. He don't have any wife as no women would be willing to go out with Ren after seeing his haggard appearance.

It was another sad truth for him. He was really lonely.

As he was thinking of starting working again, the lights of the room suddenly lit up. 

"Manager Shin."

"Oh, Ren you are still here. I thought you already went home."

"I have some articles to write."

The person who entered the room was Manager Shin. He was a young man in his 20s and he is all set to become the next head of the department in a few months.

Despite being young, he was successful completely unlike Ren. His success can be dedicated to his good academic background and his handsome face which even managed to charm the daughter of the president of the company.

Ren didn't like talking to someone who was younger than him with honorifics but he had no choice. He was just a employee while the other person was the manager.

"You can just do your work. I am just here to take my phone which I forgot while leaving."

Manager Shin said as he went to the inner office to find his phone. After a while, he came back with a phone in his hand and while flaunting the phone in his hand, he said to Ren.

"Oh yeah, Ren. I just got the message that Misaki-san will not come to work tomorrow. It seems like she had high fever but the problem is that she had to write some articles about the new book which became a bestseller recently. I hope you can write it instead of her."

"I am tired and I don't want...."

Before Ren could finish his sentence, Manager Shin clicked his tongue and interrupted him.

"Ah, Ren you are a senior here, you should help the juniors and it's only a few articles. You also were a best selling author in the past right. This topic would be easier to write for you. I will be hoping to see those articles on my desk tomorrow."

Manager Shin said as he left the room but Ren definitely heard him mutter 'Did he really think that he is still a best selling author? Fucking failure!'. 

Ren was obviously angry at those words but he can only swallow his anger. He had been listening to things like this since the day he became a failure, he was rather used to it.

'Fucking more articles!'

While cursing, he started searching for information about the bestselling books. It was a bestselling book by a debut writer and it's been on the top for a while now.

It was a situation which was very similar to Ren's. A debut work becoming a bestseller was really unusual. It had to be a great book for it to achieve that.

'Sigh!'

After a while of writing, Ren didn't wanted to continue it. It was because he keep remembering his past while writing the articles.

His glorious days, his fame and his failure…..he didn't wanted to remember it at all.

He took out his smartphone and started checking the messages. It was his birthday but there was no congratulation message and he knew there would be no one congratulating him in the future either.

He don't have any friends and even his relationship with his parents have become desolate. He was really a lonely person wasting oxygen.

As he was looking through some online novels, a sudden message arrived on his phone. It was from a SNS site he frequented on.

It was a message sent by a person whose username was Rowling Panties.

Rowling Panties: Killeray-san, happy birthday to you. I wish you a very happy year. >_<

Killeray was Ren's nickname in that site and Rowling panties was a person he chatted with sometimes. You could even say that he was the only one Ren talk to other than his colleagues.

They exchanged casual conversation for a while and after around ten minutes, the conversation got deeper.

Rowling panties: Really! You were the author of that book. It was actually one of my favourite books. You are pretty famous back then.

Killeray: Yeah, I was. My first book was a success but after that, my career gone downhill because of my wrong choice and now, I am writing articles for a second rate newspaper. lol.

Rowling panties: Yeah, if only you would have made some correct choices, your life would be very much different than today. T_T

Killeray: Yeah, I wish I could turn back time and go to my youth. I will be sure to change my life then.

Rowling panties: Yeah but turning back time is impossible. Do you have any other wishes?

Killeray: Wishes? I don't want anything other than wanting to start my career as a author again. ^_^

After that, there was no more replies for around 10 minutes and Ren also got tired waiting. He was sleepy and tired. He wanted to sleep for a while.

That's why he simply laid down on his desk and closed his eyes. He was really fatigued.

After Ren had fallen sleep, his mobile screen lit up as there was another message.

Rowling panties: I can't send you back in time but as for your wish. I can do that. I also wanted to see what can you achieve if you really got a second chance as a author. Don't disappoint me, my friend.

That was the last message which made the beginning of Ren's journey as one of the best authors in history.

I went inside and cleaned my apartment a little then I got a call from Cindy.

I hanged up the phone and jumped on top of my couch I can't believe that this is actually happening. I only dreamt about this when I was a kids and now! And now I get to see it come true!!!

Addie was still beaming with joy decided to call Simoun.

After talking to Simoun Addie had food delivered to her place for dinner and got ready for bed, but before she was about to sleep her phone my made text beeped, it was from Simoun. 
>goodnight Adds, my bed is lonely with you by my side.

Addie with a smile on her face finally went to sleep.

The following morning Addie woke up still with a smile on her face. She can't believe everything is doing fine, but for somewhat reason she was also scared at the same time, what if the universe decides to mess it up and makes me realize that I don't deserve anything that is good and happy. 
That this is as good as it gets, and after everything I will go back to where I truly belong and thats to be alone in the dark. 
Addie tried to shake of her thoughts but she can't 
She opened her laptop and typed down her inner thoughts, fears or anything that she can think of. Writing wasn't just a job or a dream it was the one thing that kept her sane all this years. Writing is the only thing that made sense to her, when ever she feels that her world is turning dark or whenever she doesn't like the person looking back at the mirror, the pen and notebook was her only escape from the sad reality of her life. 
Addie became a little teary eyed remember her past.She never understood why a lot of bad things happened to her, she always said that it made her stronger but for somewhat reason she always felt overwhelmed by everything and she just doesn't have a choice but to accept and get over it. 
 
A few moments later she was able to take a grip and compose herself remembering how she got by, then there was Simoun. For Simoun Addie was the sun in his life, the one that gave light to his dark world but what he doesn't know is that for Addie Simoun was her stars. The star that Addie would follow whenever she's lost in the dark, the star that she wishes upon to when everything is crumbling down, he was the star that gave her the reason to smile and made her whole sky complete.

Stop Addie, move on let everything go. You are in a good place now embrace it, you worked hard for this and deserve every bit of it. I told myself

I went out to get some fresh air and actually start jotting down some ideas for my possible next book, I can't just be a one hit wonder I have to push myself to be better. I went to the park and sat on a bench while feeling the wind, it was just about perfect not cold and not to warm. I busy buried my thoughts and focused on my writing ideas in my notebook that I didn't notice that it was already late in the afternoon .
I went back to my apartment and called Simoun to ask what time will he pick me up.

He didn't answer I figured he was caught up with something and just sent him a text message.

I waited for his reply but he didn't get back to me.
It's already 8pm when I decided to call Pierce instead.

It was around 8:30 when Pierce arrived and pick me up. For somewhat reason my guts tell that theres a problem, but I'm wracking my brains out and can't figure out what it is. We were alright the last time we were together.

Addie arrived at Simouns house and immediately looked for him. She found her at the mini bar so drank.
Simoun what happened? He immediately went by his side and pat his back.

Simoun tried to get up but he was already drunk walking. So Addie decided to call Robert for help.
Robert and Addie carried Simoun to his room and placed him on his bed.

You know what he said when he confronted me nothing! Nothing at all, what an asshole. So i just walked away from him.
Simoun was so drunk that when he rested his back on a pillow he immediately felt asleep. Addie removed his clothes and gave him a sponge bath,after that  Simoun she put on some clean clothes for him. Then fixed him for bed, while she also took some shower and burrowed some clothes on from Simoun and slept on the guess bedrrom room. She wanted to give Simoun space and time to process everything specially when he wakes up, but one thing is for sure she will be right by his side ready to listen and support him.

Goodnight Simoun and kissed him on the forehead.

Amber was copying her notes to her other notebook when someone walked into the class. Her next class after lunch was literature in English. So, before class starts, she wanted to get into class early to do some studying. She was never good in writing. She only likes to read but not writing. She never seems to be able to write proper grammar and get some good content, especially when it comes to essay.


Her English literature teacher was a strict teacher, who apparently loves to give homework every week. Amber discovered that when she realized that her literature homework never seem to lessen. Instead, it increases. And every new assignment from her would be more difficult than the previous ones. Her teacher's name was Mrs. Evan; a thin woman who wore spectacles with a frown on her face. She never smiles, even when the book that they were reading has a comedic plot. Amber believed that the frown must probably be surgically stuck on that mouth of hers. And Mrs. Evan also likes to wear her white hair in a bun. She looks like she was in her fifties.


When Amber felt a light breeze blows by her, she looked up and saw Erick walked past to get to the seat behind her. Once he was seated, she quickly turned on her seat and asked him in a soft voice, "Hey, long time no see. How's the leg?"


Erick cocked an eyebrow. He was surprised that she was finally talking to him. He didn't know why but it seems like she has been avoiding him the past few days. He did not know what he did wrong but he was annoyed that she likes to pretend nothing had happened. "Leg's good. Healing better. Erick is also good. Want to check my leg in a private room just to be sure?" he teased, grinning as he stressed on the word 'leg'.


Amber immediately made a face at him and then rolled her eyes. She quickly turned her back on him. 'How shameless. I was only concerned for him and he went on to say all that… how despicable,' she thought angrily. 


After the incident, she really was concerned about Erick. He had been limping his way to school and sometimes even had Hamish to support him. There were many times that she wanted to help him but whenever she saw him, he either was surrounded by his football teammates or a bunch of pretty girls. She wasn't really that self-conscious but knowing how competitive the girls were when it comes to Erick, she could only watched from afar. Jealousy of a female can be a scary thing.


Now, she regrets of being too concerned about him. It was just that she kept remembering how hurt he was, back then. She felt a bit guilty for leaving him all alone while Hamish had carried him off. If they had ran together, he probably would not get himself hurt. Though, she knew that they were still hiding things from her, being all secretive. But she couldn't help but feel that there was something about Erick that made her feel overly anxious. It was weird since they weren't this close, even though, they seem to be getting closer after that barnyard incident. And now, it seems to drift apart.


She sighed inwardly. Seems like there are some girls who were not meant to have a guy friends. It was sad but she actually prefer to have guy friends over girl friends. Probably because girls tend to make more drama than guys. 


She then continued to copy her notes while ignoring the poking from behind.

Erick continued to poke Amber with his pencil. "Hey, hey," he hissed softly. "Are you angry?" Seeing that she was still ignoring him, he continued to poke her. But apparently, her patience was something to be impressed. She doesn't even turn to glare at him. She continued writing on her notebook as if there wasn't something that's annoying her at that moment. 


He leaned against his seat with a sigh. He was getting bored. And Hamish wasn't in the same class as him so he can't talk with him. 


He was about to grab a book from his backpack to read when suddenly he felt Dane letting out a low growl in his mind. "What's with you?" Erick admonished. 


'Stop with your childish acts with this human,' Dane growled. 


Erick frowned. He was surprised to hear Dane was backing Amber up. She was a human. Something that Dane dislike or even detest. Even more so than witches. And he just told Erick to stop annoying a human? 


'Dane,' he started slowly. 'This girl is a human. As you can see, she got no wolf. Nothing. Now, do your job and growled at her.'


Dane just ignored him and fell silent. 


Erick rolled his eyes. He could never understand Dane. He was such an enigma. 


Few minutes later, the teacher finally came in, carrying some files in her arm. Her narrowed eyes scanned the room as she stood in front of the podium in the class. She then began her rollcall for the attendance. She called out each name and ticked something in her notebook when the students answered her. 


Erick was daydreaming when Mrs. Evans repeatedly called out his name. Worried that the teacher might get annoyed with him, Amber quickly turned and patted him on his arm. "Hey, the teacher just called out your name." 


"What? You love me?" Erick said, as he blinked his eyes to consciousness. 


Amber cringed. "How can you mistaken calling out your name with I love you?" she scolded, her face beet red. 


"I know. I love me too," he replied. He then looked up and said loudly, "Sorry, Mrs. Evans. I'm here." 


Mrs. Evans scowled at him. "The next time you don't answer my call, I'm going to mark you as absent, Mr. Kendall." 


He grinned sheepishly. "Sorry," he apologised. Turning back to Amber, he winked at her cheekily. 


Amber rolled her eyes and turned back to her seat. Why did she ever thought they could be friends? He has become even more outrageously shameless. 


The class continued on very well. Mrs. Evans started off her lecture with a fun topic to talk about, even if she was still not smiling. Nevertheless, it made most of the students laughed and became more interested in the topic. The topic was 'Harry Potter and its impact on English Literature.' 


Erick had never heard of Harry Potter so he was confused when people around him got a bit excited when the teacher mentioned his name. Even Amber seems excited as she smiled a lot and became an active speaker about the topics. 


Apparently, it was one of the most popular novels from a British author named J. K. Rowling. It depicted the lives of a young wizard named Harry Potter and his friends. Hearing them talk, Erick scoffed in his heart. 'Wizard?' he ridiculed. 'Everyone knows that werewolves are better than wizards.'


He looked up when he noticed Amber had turned around in her seat again to face him, her eyes twinkling with excitement. "So, which one is your favourite house?" she asked, a big smile on her face. 


"House?" he repeated. 


Amber nodded. 


"What kind of question is that?" he asked, confused. "Why do you think I have lots of houses that I would pick one as my favourite."


She looked confused when she heard his question. She did not realize that Erick has no idea what is Harry Potter. She did not expect that there was anyone in this world who doesn't even heard about Harry Potter. 


"Uhh, what I meant was… Do you like Gryffindor? Hufflepuff? Slytherin? Or Ravenclaw?" she asked again. 


Erick looked even more confused. Gryfin-what? Puffpuff? Curry puff? Was this something he should know? Was she hungry for curry puff? Does she wants samosa too? Looking confused, he asked her whether she was hungry. 


Amber gasped. Erick really have no clue what Harry Potter is. She discreetly clenched her fists as she watched the dumbfounded Erick with a determined look in her eyes. 


She patted him on the arm and said, "Don't worry. I'll make you a Potterhead before you know it." 


Again, Erick could only looked at her in confused. What the heck is this woman talking about? Are they even in the same topic? Potterhead? Is he suppose to wear a pot on his head? It was then he decided that he should ignore her for now and listened to the teacher. 


When he heard what the teacher was talking about, realization dawned on him. He groaned inwardly. Seems like he has another thing to learn about. What a pain in the arse.

Erick leaned closer to her and at the same time, sniffed her scent.

Amber jumped back, her eyes widened at Erick. “Did you just sniff me?!?”

Erick pretend to look confused and frowned at her. “Did I? Are you sure you were not imagining it? You must be hearing things. I suggest you go and clean your ears next time.”

Amber flushed red in embarrassment, or was it in anger. If it weren’t for the fact that she needed his help with her studies, she would not be here. Instead, she could have been at home, eating ice-cream while binge-watching Harry Potter. She just sighed in frustration and continued to ignore him. 

This was not the first time he had been acting strange. Earlier today, a guy was about to sit next to her but had moved away when Erick growled deep at him, like a dog… or a wolf.

Unable to muster the energy to get out of my hospital bed, tears began leaking from my eyes. As my eyes roamed the sterile room, I thought to myself; I must have the worse luck imaginable, what god did I piss off and why was he was making it his life's mission to screw up my life as much as possible?

As I laid there, I began reviewing the many tragedies that had happened to me over the past 15 years, beginning with my parents dying in a car accident when I was 2, leaving me all alone in this world. If that wasn't bad enough, I developed leukemia at the tender age of 4. If regular kids have a hard time being adopted, they don't have anything on sick kids. No one wants to take a child who may be dead soon.

As time went on, I spent more time in the hospital than I did at the orphanage; it wasn't all bad; many of the doctors and nurses became my surrogate family. When I was seven, I overheard the doctor telling my caretaker that I had less than a year to live. However, I always had been a stubborn child, and I manage to eke out eight more years of life, but by the time I was 15, I gave up. I was exhausted; every day that I still lived seemed to be a fight. If it wasn't leukemia, it was the brain tumors, it seemed that this body was defective somehow.

I managed by losing myself in fantasy books, often imagining what I would do if I could only visit these magical worlds. The last book I read was The Order of the Phoenix, written by J.K Rowling, and I hoped to stay alive long enough to finish the series. Praying to every god out there, I pleaded for a do-over; when that didn't work, I started to get angry. It wasn't fair that this was my life; I wanted to live, to explore. Exhausted, I fell asleep, later that night, my body shut down for good, and I felt myself slip away.

In another world On September 2, 1977, at precisely 4 in the afternoon, deep within the heart of St. Mungo, the wizarding hospital. In the paternity ward, a young woman with golden hair gave birth to a son. Curiously, immediately after being born, the babe was silent and refused to make a sound, after the healer gave the child to his mother all swaddled up, she asked what the child's name was. After naming her son, the healer left, and a young man entered the room and asked to see the baby, after giving the baby to the young man, he spun the child around all excitedly. Five years later
Today marks five years since my rebirth, as traumatizing as it was to be reborn as a baby fully aware, I am happy to be alive. I still don't understand how this happened; I don't even remember dying, and as more time goes on, the more my previous life seems like a dream that I can barely remember, which I suppose is a blessing. Still, if someone is going to be reincarnated, being reincarnated into as a wizard, in a world full of magic, makes me believe I hit the jackpot. I had so much bad luck in my previous life that the universe decided to compensate me for it. However, this brings about a critical question, is J.K. Rowling a god of some sort? Did she somehow create this world, or did she have visions of this world and write what she saw? If she did write what she saw, how accurate was she? Did she embellish to write a good story, or did she record the events as they unfolded?

While pondering over these deep philosophical questions, a booming sound shook me from my thoughts, "ALEXANDER FAWLEY… DOWNSTAIRS, NOW!!"

I jumped and felt a sinking feeling well up inside of my stomach, which only happens when a child hears their mother speak in that tone of voice. After exiting my room, which was on the top floor of a three-story house, I started descending the steps at the end of the hallway.

While descending the stairs, the paintings that hung on the wall started snickering and hooting that I was in trouble now. As I approached the ground floor, an encouraging voice rang out from the final painting along the wall, "Courage, my boy."


I turned to the painting to see an encouraging smile coming from an old balding wizard. Cracking my knuckles, I responded with a confident grin, "No worries, I believe I know what this is about, and I have mentally prepared myself for what's coming."


After reaching the ground floor, I began making my way through the family room, heading towards the dining room, where I would do battle with the monster known as mother. Before I entered the dining hall, I took a deep breath as to reassure myself of victory, as I entered the dining room, I paused in the doorway to take a good look at what awaited me.


I saw my mother sitting around the round dinner table, her long golden blond hair hanging over her shoulders. Next to her, my father, whose face was hidden by a magazine, whose cover had several brooms. As I entered the dining area, and my mother's blue eyes immediately shot up and made contact with me.

She said in a surprisingly sweet soft voice, "Please sit down, Alex."

Not for the first time, I tried to compare my mothers' current soft-spoken voice to the booming one that called for me earlier. I had trouble reconciling the two manners in which my mother spoke. The first manner was carefully spoken, with a slight French accent accompanying her words; the other, was not spoken so much as screamed, and when her voice rose to that level, her French accent came across more severely.

After I pulled out the heavy wooden chair and climbed into the seat, I brushed my long dirty blond hair from my eyes and smiled as widely as I could to bring out my dimples. I knew that they were a weakness of hers.

"Yes, mum," I said with all the innocence of a five-year-old.

As my mother's eyes narrowed, informing me that my ploy to appear adorable while usually effective would not deter this upcoming battle. "Do you have anything you would like to tell me?" she asked me.

I thought to myself, ha, not falling for that trap, rule #11, never admit to any crime without overwhelming evidence. As several responses occurred to me, I selected one that I hoped would distract her.

I said in a bright voice, "It's my birthday; I'm five today."

As my mother acknowledge my opening statement with a nod, I started a mental scoreboard, Alex 1- Mom -0. However, after I studied the slight smirk that appeared on my mother's face, I felt a sinking feeling develop in my stomach.

After what seemed like an unusually long silence, mom set out a glass jar, half full with a label that identified the contents as mandrake leaves. She asked, "Are you sure?"

I acknowledge my mother's parry to my opening thrust. The current score flashed into my head, Alex -1 Mum -1,

While most children would inevitably crack at this point, rule #15 dashed across my thoughts, when confronted with vague evidence about your supposed crime, double down in your denial. Several avenues of attack appeared in my thoughts after selecting the most appropriate one. I countered, "Presents!" and reached across the table to grab the 'evidence.'

Mum's eyes widened, clearly not expecting that particular response from me. Alex -2 Mum 1, I thought.

After mum held eye contact with me for a moment, she pulled out a small white crystal and set it on the table and murmured, "Reveilo." After speaking the spell, the dining room seemed to disappear, and a place I was all too aware that I was not allowed into without supervision appeared.

After a moment, the wooden door slowly creaked open, and I observed myself sneak into the room carrying an old tattered book. After shutting the door behind me, a broad smile appeared on my face as I looked about the circular room. The room was lined with shelves that surrounded the place and stretched to the ceiling, full of ingredients.

In the center of the room was a table in the shape of a crescent moon, it had a sturdy cauldron sitting in the middle of it. I set the book down on the table, and the book seemingly opened of its own accord.

The book opened to the page containing the instructions on how to brew a pepperup potion. It was one of the easiest potions to create and at was designed to cure someone of the flu and other common illnesses. 

After memorizing the list, I went to the shelves to gather the ingredients needed for the potion. I climbed up on the first step of what looked a double-sided rolling ladder, after speaking the first name of the component that I needed, the ladder began rolling around the shelves until it reached a particular spot. The step I was standing on started rising, and the steps on the back half of the ladder began to sink. After rising to a particular point, I found the ingredients that I was looking for, after grabbing all the ingredients, I made my way back to the table to begin brewing the potion.

Suddenly the scene disappeared, and I focused back on my mother's face and noticed a shark-like smile had appeared on her face. I thought to myself. Alex-2 Mum -2.

"Anything you want to say?" Mum asked.

I couldn't help but compare those words to when a judge asks if the accused has any final words and is about to pronounce a prisoner's guilt along with a harsh sentence.

After thinking furiously for a moment, I Looked at my dad and thought, sorry dad, but rule #21 clearly states that when confronted with overwhelming evidence of your crime, the next step is to shift blame. As I looked into my mom's eyes that were shining with the knowledge that she had me, and there was no escaping her justice.

I responded, "It was dad's idea." As the word left my mouth and resonated throughout the room, My father violently spat out the coffee he was drinking and lowered his magazine.

"WHAT!!! HENRY EXPLAIN," mum shrieked and turned her wrathful eyes upon her brown-haired husband, who was currently suffering from a bad case of bed head.

After meeting his wife angry gaze, he turned his dark eyes towards me, with the burning unspoken question appearing in his eyes, why would you do that to me, haven't I been a good dad? After meeting my dad's reproachful eyes, I felt a flash of guilt but consoled myself with the common knowledge that when meeting an angry momma bear, you don't have to outrun her, you only have to beat the person next to you.

Waving his arms about, trying to convince my mom not to rush to judgment, "I said no such thing Camille," Dad quickly defended.

Knowing that my mum needed a final push, I sealed my father's fate with the final nail in the coffin. With the most innocent voice I could manage, I asked, "But dad, didn't you say that the pepperup potion was so easy to make that a five-year-old could brew it?"

After hearing those words, mum's eyes narrowed like laser beams and she remarked, "Interesting." 

"Now Camille, it was just an expression," dad stuttered.

Satisfied that my mum had found herself a new target, I thought to myself Alex -3 Mum -2 Dad -0,
I quietly snuck out of the dining room; however, before I could make the final getaway, I gave the condemned a last glance to remember his brave sacrifice.

As I met my dad's gaze, I noticed a sly smile appear on his face, and I couldn't help but think DANGER WILL ROBINSON… DANGER.

"It's true dear, I did say that," dad said to mum, "I told Alex that a five-year-old could brew that potion, However at the time of the alleged brewing he was not five, as he just turned five today."

As mum heard these words, she murmured, "That's true."

I couldn't help but think, Well played dad, Alex -3 Mom -2 Dad -1

I blanched at my mum's expression after seeing her face once it turned towards me, and I thought, Rule #35 in the event you ever notice that mum make that face, RUN!!! I raced through the living room, trying to make a getaway.

Mum shouted, "OH NO YOU DON'T." and whipped out a wand and flicked it towards the heavy drapes covering the windows.

As I ran, the drapes came alive and began reaching out towards me, when they were unable to reach me, they started magically extendedinh and were able to catch me. After wrapping me up so that I couldn't escape, the drapes lifted me into the air and presented me as a gift on a silver platter before my mother.

"Does the condemned have any final words?" mum said with a shark-like smile on her face.

Rule #99 popped into my head, if punishment is unavoidable, respond by being too adorable to punish harshly.

"But mommy, you were sick, and I knew that the pepperup potion makes people feel better, and I just wanted you to feel better," I said in a small voice.

Mum's expression softened, and she responded, "The potion that your father gave me the other day was the one you brewed."

I slowly nodded and thought Alex-4, Mum -3, Dad -1.

Mum's heart melted a little inside, but she steeled herself and said, "Alex, potions are incredibly dangerous, if brewed incorrectly you could hurt yourself. How do you think that would have made me feel?"

After hearing these words, my eyes shifted down guiltily, unable to meet my mother's gaze. She continued, "As for your punishment, we will get to that tomorrow. Now, today is your birthday, go upstairs and get dressed for the day. Your aunt and uncle will be arriving soon, along with your grandparents."

After being released by the drapes and set down, I trudged up the stairs towards my room. All of the paintings on the wall made clear that they agreed with my mother that what I had done was indeed foolish. After getting into my room, I threw myself on my four-poster bed.

I tallied up the points, and I thoughtfully considered that what ended up being the best defense to the situation ended up being the truth. I honestly did want my mom to feel better, so I made the potion, the fact I also really wanted to make a magic potion was killing two birds with one stone.
