"The Eagle?" Tomcat removed the earpiece, unsure what Tang Yue was getting at.
"The Eagle's Ascent Vehicle. The little guy we launched up there. Isn't it still connected to the United Space Station?"
Tomcat waved its claw. It obviously knew that the Eagle's Ascent Vehicle was still connected to the United Space Station. Back then, both of them had gone to great effort and danger before successfully sending the Eagle into the embrace of the space station. Looking back, Tomcat felt that it must have been mad to agree to such a risky operation.
However, the Eagle's Ascent Vehicle couldn't be used as a vessel to enter the atmosphere again. It was one-use, having completed its mission after it entered orbit.
Now, the Eagle was just a large piece of space trash. Logically speaking, it was to be abandoned, but the reason Mai Dong hadn't abandoned it was because with Earth gone, man-made space trash became rare and precious.
"The Eagle no longer has the ability to enter the atmosphere," Tomcat said. "It's worthless and the propellant has been completely expended. You want that lass to descend on a condemned spacecraft?"
"Based on regular flight standards, the Eagle is already condemned. However, it has some redundancy in its design. There's definitely some room to be squeezed from that redundancy… right?" This was akin to having a city on the brink of destruction, while you had the last Boeing 737 plane for escaping. However, Boeing had already informed you that the plane had reached the end of its lifespan.
At this moment, you'd have to bet that the plane's designers had left sufficient safety redundancies. Even though the plane was rated for an MTBF of 10,000 hours, you would take the bet that 10,001 hours would be fine.
Tomcat and Tang Yue had made such a bet the last time, and thankfully, they had won the bet.
"Apart from the Eagle, we don't have anything else that has the ability to enter the atmosphere. The space station's and Orion's structures don't permit it because they will definitely disintegrate and burn," Tang Yue said. "However, the Eagle's design allows it to enter the atmosphere. It has a lifting body design with its blunt nose, not some fragile lattice structure. "Cryptic Yang?" Tomcat obviously remembered the man. His heroics of attempting to mix Sparkling Oldenlandia Water with Swedish herring canned food was still fresh on its mind. "Wasn't he involved in compressed biscuits at the nutrition center? What has he got to do with the heat-resistant tiles?"
"His girlfriend's brother's mentor's eldest nephew's seventh maternal granduncle was a department head at NASA."
"But we have no idea about the situation regarding the heat-resistant tiles on the Eagle. If there's any damage to it, it will just replicate the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster," Tomcat said. "It needs careful inspection."
"But at the very least, we have hope."
"It's too early to call it hope." Tomcat wore a serious expression. "Even if the Eagle can withstand the heat, it's unable to decelerate by itself. When it enters the atmosphere, it will be in free fall. Putting someone in a metal can and throwing them from four hundred kilometers will kill anyone unless they are the Hulk."
Tang Yue nodded with a frown.
He had tried his best to find viable means to descend, but they couldn't be built on wishful thinking. Tang Yue and Tomcat were betting, betting on Mai Dong's life. Considering the sanctity of life, they couldn't make any mistakes. As long as a single mistake happened during the atmospheric entry, the lady would be vaporized.

Now, Tang Yue only had half the lander on hand. Furthermore, it was a shell without any propellant. To try landing with an empty shell? That was treating the laws of physics and engineering with the greatest contempt.
Since time immemorial, all that viewed the laws of physics and engineering with contempt had resulted in a bloody outcome.
Anyone who attempted to go against Newton eventually got hit by Lord Isaac in the face.
Tang Yue set up a few tables with white paper. On them were written: "Lord Newton," "Lord Konstantin Tsiolkovsky," "Lord Wernher von Braun," as well as "Lord Sergei Korolev." Then, he began kowtowing on the desktop.
"Lords, please show your powers to your followers. If you don't make your presence felt, humanity will be doomed."
"The final problem is navigation. If we were to let Miss Mai Dong descend, we need her to land accurately near Kunlun Station," Tomcat said. "We do not have any rescue teams or helicopters on Mars. If the lander landed hundreds of kilometers away, no one could rescue her in time."
"Hey, Mr. Cat, what are you guys being all secretive about?" Mai Dong appeared onscreen.
"Nothing. Nothing." Tomcat wore its earpiece and said, "I'm only persuading Tang Yue not to hide under his blankets every night watching Japanese language flicks. Otherwise, it might lead to kidney deficiency… It's not like his body is okay to begin with…"
Tang Yue sat by the side, holding up his head as he stuck out his tongue.
With the resources on the space station slowly depleting, Mai Dong's predicament was exposed once again. If she continued staying there, her physical condition might only worsen.
To be frank, even if Mai Dong was brought down, the duo wouldn't be able to live long. Kunlun Station was equally limited in resources, but at the very least, being together allowed them to help each other. Tang Yue wasn't really scheming anything. He was in no mood to scheme in an environment where he had little to eat or drink. It was just that being in a dire situation, he would enjoy having another person accompany him so they could share in the warmth.

　　帕森斯是个天才科学家，热衷科幻小说和神秘传说的他从小便对火箭产生浓厚的兴趣，早在1947年时他就预测火箭将会把人类送上月球。由于家庭原因和个人性格原因帕森斯并没有接受系统的高等教育，凭借着自己的高智商和爱好自学成了一名化学家，并联合一些好朋友进行小规模的火箭研究。
　　1936年，年仅22岁的帕森斯加入了冯·卡门的火箭研究小组，而钱先生几乎与他同时加入这个小组。当时火箭研究是非常危险的，实验时发生爆炸几如家常便饭，因此这个小组也被称为“自杀小组”。
　　帕森斯在研究组中负责开发火箭燃料，才华横溢的他甫一加入便解决了一个大难题，大大推进了火箭发展的进程。不仅如此，年轻的帕森斯还贡献了喷气燃料助推起飞技术（Jet fuel assisted take off），就是美国大片里常看到的那种帮助飞机从航母上短距离起飞的助推装置，美国的航空水平因为这两个技术开始跳跃式发展。
　　帕森斯自我介绍时说自己在JPL工作过，其实是自谦的说法。实际上他算是JPL的主要创始人之一。
　　但是，和另一个天才，霍华德·休斯一样，帕森斯也有自己的毛病。
　　因为过于热衷神秘传说的关系，1939年起帕森斯开始接触加州的一个黑魔法组织——塞尔玛教会（Church of Thelema）。该教会的首领克劳利（ Crowley）自称曾在埃及旅行时曾得到神秘智慧的启示，从而写下了带有预言性质的《法之书》（Book of The Law），这是一整套体系完整的神秘主义哲学著作。
　　在《法之书》中，克劳利强调人类“意念力”（will）的力量，他认为所谓魔法，就是能以意念力引起变化的一种科学。人类可凭自我意识成为神明，或是用人类的意识控制物质运动。
　　在认真研读过克劳利的《法之书》后，帕森斯如同灌顶一般打开了全新的思维世界，他坚信《法之书》中阐释的“意念力量”（will）是人类文明未来发展的趋势。
　　帕森斯还认为克劳利的魔法和量子物理的理论是共同的、共通的，完全可以用于科学研究。比如在火箭发射试验时，帕森斯经常诵读着克劳利的祈福咒语“潘神圣歌”（Hymn to Pan），火箭研究组的所有人都对帕森斯的咒语习以为常，就连冯·卡门都对此事不置可否。
　　和帕森斯共事多年，私交很好的钱先生就这样被他带到了沟里。
　　后来，帕森斯又加入了另一个神秘主义组织，东方圣殿教（Ordo Temple Orientis），并且行为越来越怪异，最后终于被JPL以及他自己创立的公司Aerojet赶了出去。
　　此时，帕森斯受雇于北美航空，工作的地方也在英格伍德，住所则在曼哈顿海滩。虽然收入大降，还曾经被好友骗过不少钱，但他对黑魔法的兴趣依然不减。
　　因此，当帕森斯偶然路过，听到奥维尔关于“平行世界”的解说时，他才会立刻停下脚步，并一字不落的听完了。
　　“平行世界”一说，完美的契合了帕森斯的世界观——魔法不是不存在，只是不存在于我们这个世界而已。
　　所以，奥维尔结束解说后，帕森斯便迫不及待的找到他，想要进行更为深入的交流。于是，奥维尔便趁此机会，将帕森斯吸纳进了“（里）位面行者之家”社团。
　　“杰克，记得有时间来帕萨迪纳参加社团的活动。”
　　临走前，埃文对帕森斯说道。
　　帕森斯一脸欣喜的点头说：“当然，我一定会去的。”
　　汽车开动，埃文陷入沉思。
　　该怎么忽悠才能让这个帕森斯回归正常呢？
　　如果不把他弄正常，也就没办法改变钱先生的那个观念……

　　晚上十点。
　　和有闲暇春游的埃文不同，固体物理小组在肖克利的要求下，不得不全体加班了，为的是把肖克利的一个设想落实到实物上。
　　这是一个非常难的实验。
　　经过数周的努力，曙光即将降临。
　　“OK，电流放大了！”
　　预期结果终于显现，小组成员之一的普范大声叫了出来。
　　一直阴沉着脸的肖克利罕见的露出了微笑，他拍了拍普范的肩膀，接着走向被他强拉来观看实验的穆勒（专利部门负责人），说道：“接下来该你们得出马了，专利申请必需要快！”
　　三天后，穆勒阴沉着脸来到肖克利的办公室，把一篇文章扔到他的面前。
　　“肖克利，你必须老实告诉我，你的工作是不是你原创的？”
　　肖克利看完文章后，脸色同样变得十分难看，他保证道：“穆勒，我可以保证……如果你需要，我可以把我所有的笔记整理出来。”
　　穆勒盯着肖克利的眼睛看了几秒，认为他没有撒谎的迹象后，问道：“那有没有可能是泄密……”
　　“应该不是……”肖克利想了想，摇头道：“埃文·沃伦，他确实有可能抢先一步……”
　　说完这话，肖克利无力的垂下了脑袋。

Emma found the figures carved by her father 13 years ago on one of the antenna poles and immediately took a picture of them. After pondering for a while, she returned to where Haoran was standing and asked him to come down.
"We're done here. I've found the clue I was looking for," Emma said. Haoran nodded as Emma took his hand and flew down to the ground.
"Why don't we just fly to the hotel?" Haoran asked.
"I don't know the way," Emma said with a shrug. "The view from up there and the view from down here are different."
"Oh... that's right," Haoran finally understood.
For them, it would be easier to fly toward the Eiffel Tower because the tower was humongous and could be seen from anywhere in the city center. But it would be difficult to find Hotel Nobel from the top of the Eiffel Tower. Their hotel was surrounded by so many similar-looking buildings.
So, the best option was to walk home or take a taxi. They decided to take the latter.
In the taxi, the two didn't discuss what had happened that night. They didn't want the taxi drivers to listen to their conversation. Only after they had arrived back at the hotel lobby did they discuss the clue Emma had found in the antenna tower.
"It feels like I'm doing a scavenger hunt to find pieces to complete a puzzle," Emma said softly. "My father left the coordinates of our home on the Moon. He deliberately put it where no one else could read it but me."
"You mean at the antenna tower earlier?" Haoran asked. "What are the coordinates?"
Emma pulled out her cellphone and showed him the picture she took. "This."
"Don't tell me this is the location of your parent's capsule on the Moon," Haoran said enthusiastically. "In that case, we should give these coordinates to Goose and let her do the search."
"You think so?" asked Emma. "Do you think we can trust Goose?"
"Goose built her reputation on a trust basis. Before, she didn't care who hired her services as long as they could pay her, so her clients began to trust her as she proved herself. But now, she's different. Goose has been openly refusing offers from the underworld and works with only select people. Not to mention, she has agreed to help us twice without payment. I think we can trust her."
Emma stood in silence in front of the elevator door. Although she was eager to trust Goose completely as Haoran did, she had never been in contact with Goose personally. Emma didn't even know what Goose looked like or where she lived, so it was hard for Emma to blindly trust Goose.
"Haoran, I don't think I want to take any risk," Emma finally said.
DING
The elevator door opened, and they entered. Haoran pressed the buttons for the 5th and 10th floor.
"You don't want to ask Goose for help?" Haoran asked her. "She can check these coordinates and immediately give the answer you're looking for."
Emma shook her head. "We don't know who or where she is. What if she betrays us and takes this information for herself? Then, I'll lose our home on the moon. I don't want to risk it."
"Okay. So, what's your plan?" Haoran asked. "We don't have the expertise to hack satellites like Goose."
Emma clenched her fists, and her face looked determined. "I'll learn it. I'll find out for myself without asking Goose for help. I'll be patient. You said it yourself, it might take years."
Haoran was stunned by Emma's determination. He finally nodded. "All right, if that's what you want."
DING
The elevator stopped on the 5th floor, and the door opened, but Emma didn't come out. She was still busy with her own thoughts.
"This is your floor," Haoran reminded.
"Hmm... I know." Emma pressed the elevator button to close. The elevator continued to the 10th floor. Haoran didn't say anything as they moved to his floor. He didn't plan for Emma to his suite tonight, but he didn't mind it one bit. When the elevator stopped on the 10th floor, and the door opened, Emma pulled Haoran's hand out, saying, "I want to discuss something with you."
"Okay," Haoran said as Emma dragged him toward his suite in 1012. Once they were at the door, Haoran swept the access card from his pocket, and both of them walked inside.
Emma immediately sat on the sofa with a serious face. "Take out your laptop."
"Give me a sec," said Haoran. He took his laptop from the study room and handed it to Emma. "The password's 1204."
Emma nodded. She turned on Haoran's laptop while Haoran went to the kitchenette and boiled some water to make tea.
"There's a new message from Goose," Emma said as she noticed the notification flashing on the lower right. Emma felt it had something to do with the task they gave Goose to track the whereabouts of her parents.
"Just open it," Haoran said from the kitchenette. He was busy taking out boxes of tea from the cupboard to make their tea. "Do you want Fruit Tea, Earl Grey, or Chamomile?"
Emma was touched by Haoran's attitude. He really trusted her and didn't even hesitate to give her the password to open his laptop. In addition, he even let Emma open his inbox to read the message from Goose.
With a pounding chest, Emma opened the message. She had heard from Haoran many times Goose was the best hacker in the world. So, Emma had been hoping that the hacker would be able to provide additional clues for Emma to find her parents.
[In my whole life, this is the first time I've had to admit failure. I've run hundreds of searches at the same time for 24 hours, but they didn't produce any results. I even searched in databases from up to fifteen years ago. This is really unusual. As if wherever they were, they were never recorded by any cameras. I've never come across anything like this.]
Emma felt discouraged. Even Goose, whom Haoran said was the best hacker in the world, couldn't find her parents' tracks. The girl bit her lip and tried to think.
A moment later, Emma typed a reply to Goose. Emma suspected her parents did something to hide their faces from being caught by cameras anywhere in the world. They did it for the purpose of being invisible but there was no way they could keep hiding their bodies.
[They're researchers who worked on secret projects and were accustomed to hiding from surveillance. You might be able to find patterns between photos and videos of a couple whose faces are faint, blurry, or hard to recognize. It's easy for them to deceive surveillance cameras around the world using infrared. Their faces won't be caught on camera. But their bodies will still be seen. Maybe, if you could find such patterns on the database, two people, one man and one woman together, whose faces were never caught by camera... then you might be able to find them. Try checking the surveillance camera database in Paris throughout February 2043.]
After pressing the SEND button, Emma put down Haoran's laptop on the table and took a deep breath. She had given a very specific instruction to Goose. She hoped the hacker would be able to narrow down her search and find clues about Emma's parents' tracks in 2043.
Emma knew that by the end of the winter of 2043, Kaoshin and Arreya Stardust were in Paris because they wrote the coordinates for Emma on top of the Eiffel Tower.
Later, they took little Emma to the orphanage. Goose would definitely be able to find their appearance data on the camera surveillance from that month.
Emma wanted to know where her parents had gone after leaving her in the orphanage. From there, she would look for their next track.
"What did Goose say?" Haoran asked, carrying a tray with a pot of tea and two cups. He placed them on the table and poured tea for them.
Emma took Haoran's laptop and showed him the message from Goose and her reply. Haoran nodded and before he could make a comment, a message came from Goose again.
[This is very helpful! You're right. People can easily avoid surveillance cameras with infrared. You're so smart. I'll launch new searches with these specifics.]
Haoran typed a reply to Goose. [Thank you, Goose.]
He and Emma then exchanged glances.
"Now we just have to wait," said Haoran as he handed a cup of tea to Emma. "Drink first. I thought you wanted to discuss something important."
He checked his watch, the gesture, unknowingly to him, actually made Emma feel guilty. She felt bad about taking Haoran's time even though it was already past midnight.
"Are you going to sleep? Am I bothering you?" Emma asked in a shy voice.
Haoran shook his head. "Oh, not at all. Like I said, don't be a stranger."
"Hmm... okay." Emma nodded. "Thank you."
She took a sip of her tea and looked at the carpeted floor.
"Looks like something's bothering you," commented Haoran, also drinking his tea. "You can tell me anything."
Emma stared at Haoran for a long time before placing her cup on the table. "Uhm... you said, your father has an investment in SpaceLab, right? I need to use a connection to SpaceLab to send messages to the Moon using their Deep Space Network*. I've heard that SpaceLab's DSN network is the best in the world today. If we can use that, we won't have to use Goose's services. I want to be able to send the message myself."
Haoran looked calm when he heard Emma's words. "What kind of message do you want to send? If it's just a radio message, you don't have to use the SpaceLab connection or even DSN. We can send messages using radio waves to the Moon. Many people are doing it for almost a hundred years already. Have you heard of Moon Bounce*? A lot of radio amateurs do it as a hobby, sending radio waves to the Moon using the EME technique, Earth-Moon-Earth. We can send radio waves to the Moon, and later, the waves will be bounced back by the Moon's surface. It takes 2.5 seconds to do it."
Emma looked at Haoran with an astonished face. "How do you know all this?"
Haoran shrugged with a happy smile. "I have an interest in astronomy. Since I know my father's investing in SpaceLab, I'm determined to get there one day. You didn't know about Moon Bounce?"
Emma shook her head. "I had no interest in astronomy before this."
"Ahh..." Haoran patted his chest and said enthusiastically. "I know a lot about space. I'll help you send your message to the Moon."

Napatingin ako sa nagsalita sa likod ko, it is Katie. She is always here nakatambay if maraming tao sa library or trip niya ang fresh na hangin.

"Hi Katie," ngumiti lang ako sa kanya and inayos naman niya ang kanyang eyeglasses. She wear those glasses kahit may contact lense man siya pero I think di niya dinala. Mas nasanay daw siya dyan eh.

"A penny for your thoughts?" Sabi niya, Katie may be cold and minsan lang nagsasalita but she cares,and believe it or not madaldal din siya minsan if trip niyang magsalita or may gusto siyang i-prove.

Napabuntong hininga naman ako, "I don't know what to do Kat, it's so sudden. Di ko inexpect ganitong gulo pala ang nagawa ko hindi lang for me but the image of the Queens."

Napayuko nalang ako, "I may not have the knowledge to say the right words for you to feel better in this kind of situation but let me bring you to the place na makakatulong sayo," napatingin ako sa kanya and she's smiling na parang tini-tease niya ako.

Naguguluhan ako but she said na wag na ako magtanong or magsalita and sundin ko nalang siya.

Napunta kami sa auditorium and hindi ko alam kung bakit, bakit ang raming students? May play ba? Wala pa naman ang Buwan ng Wika ah? Kakatapos lang ng Nutrition Month and June pa lang.

"Katie ano ginagawa na--" 

Nawala si Katie. Nasaan siya? 

Nasa gitna ako kasi kakapasok ko lang. Nasa dulo ako ng aisle and nasa kabilang dulo naman ang stage tapos sa left and right ko may kumpulang mga chairs and nandito din ang halos buong population ng Northernians. 

I think wala na nga atang chair para sakin eh. Iniwan na ako ni Katie shocks. Paano ba 'to? Aalis nalang kaya ako?

Tatalikod na sana ako nang may nagsalita sa kabilang dulo which is the stage, "Hey Julienne!!!" And yes it was more likely na parang shout and sa boses palang alam ko na kung sino iyon.

I look at their direction with my eyes wide open na para bang gusto ko siyang sakalan and shout at him in the face if nasa right isip pa ba siya because I'm wishing na to the Mother Earth na kainin na niya ako.

Everyone is mumbling and whispering tapos may iba pa na napa-gasp. 

Who wouldn't?!

And there! I saw that Perverted Casanova na nasa itaas ng stage, and he is not wearing a proper uniform! Pawis na pawis siya ang kitang kita iyon sa polo niya, kinuha niya kasi ang blazer niya. He's smiling like and idiot na nasa harap habang nakatingin straight to me at tinuro pa ako.

Mas lalo pa akong nagulat when I saw some Kings from the South na nasa stage din, namukhaan ko kasi iyong King Tytus na na-meet ko kahapon na nasa drums, then nakita ko na din ang ibang Kings noong sa game.

Buti nalang talaga hindi bawal ang mga outsiders basta galing sa Royal South Academy because they're taking the whole stage and the whole student body para dito, in short the whole auditorium. 

"Hey Julienne! Baby... I know what I did. I know how horrible boyfriend I am, and baby let me explain and give me a chance," huminga siya and he's looking at me even from where I am standing I can see his eyes, his sincere eyes. 

Napaiwas ako nang tingin. What the fudge bakit ganito siya! Why does it feel so... So real?

"Let me do the 'harana' baby. Be my Julienne," napatingin ulit ako sa side nila and they started to play their instruments.

Sa last part he freaking winked! Nababaliw na siya! Nababaliw na siya! Bakit kasi ang ganda ng voice niya diba?! Bakit?! Halos kapareha na niya iyong original na kumanta ng Hey Juliet! And the way he changed the Juliet into Julienne, urgh! 

Ang rami niyang pakulo! He's very impossible! And my Romeo?! I should have known na ang super super duper corny niya!

And what the fudge, why am I relating the song sa aming dalawa?! As if naman he mean those words eh baka this is part of our operation pagpre-pretend. So tanga Julienne!

Kanta niya pa while nakaluhod, para siyang baliw! Baliw baliw. Pero may iba nang mga taga Northernians na hindi napigilan ang pagkilig, but most of them are disgusted or not entertained and may iba na walang pake and nag poker face lang.

I sighed. Siguro ayaw nila talaga sa mga taga South. I can't blame them anyway.

"Bagong renovate na'rin ito katulad ng sinend mong mga designs, pinalinis ko na din ito sa housekeeper kanina kaya wala kanang ibang gagawin kundi ang mag-ayos na lang ng mga gamit mo." Nakangiti at masayang paliwanag ni Tita Lisa–I tried to call her Ma'am earlier but she insisted na Tita Lisa na lang daw ang itawag ko sa kanya.

Nandito ako ngayon sa apartment na tutuluyan ko habang nag-aaral ako sa SSU. I decided na sa labas na lang ng university tumira kaysa sa mga dormitory doon sa loob, alam ko kasing mas magiging kumportable ako dito sa labas malayo sa ibang mga estudyante. 

And besides, ang parents ko din naman ang nag-desisyon na sa isang condominium unit na lang ako tumira, though I rejected their offer dahil masyado itong malayo sa university kaya they suggested this apartment instead—The Laxford Apartment. 20 minutes lang ang layo nito mula sa university, depende na lang kung public transportation ang sasakyan mo, but in my case na halos lahat ng pangangailangan ko ay inayos at ini-handa na ng parents ko bago pa man nila mapag-desisyunan na dito na lang ako pag-aralin. Pagpasok ko pa nga lang sa kwarto ng hotel na tutuluyan ko two days ago ay bumungad na agad sa akin ang isang susi ng kotse na nakalagay sa ibabaw ng kama ko. "Ah sige po, thank you po t-tita Lisa." Medyo awkward kong sagot dito habang inililibot ang tingin sa kabuuan ng unit.

Tama nga ang sinabi niya na tapos na itong i-renovate, I immediately started to make a tour. The cream-tiled floor is definitely complimenting the light-grey wall and the white-colored ceiling. Maluwang din ang kwarto compared to any ordinary apartments na matatagpuan malapit sa university, alam ko'rin naman na hindi ito ire-recommend ng parents ko if hindi ganito kaayos at kaganda ang magiging kwarto ko.

Pagpasok ng pintuan ay bubungad agad ang isang mini hallway na sa tingin ko ay may lapad na mahigit three meters at may haba namang eight meters, mapapansin din ang mga paintings and other art materials na nakasabit sa pader nito.

"Nandito lang sa bungad yung comfort room," Dugtong pa ni tita Lisa at saka binuksan ang pintuan sa right side bago lumagpas sa mini hallway.

I peeked inside and my jaw almost literally dropped when I saw the entire 'comfort room'. Muka yatang napasobra sila ng renovation dito because it looks very classy just to be a comfort room. It was rectangular in shape and coated with a roughed and grey-colored tiles. The ceiling has similar color to the outside but the wall was painted in white. There were a fixed cabinet in the left side followed by a white circular sink with a large rectangular mirror on the wall and mini hanging cabinets. Sa bandang dulo ay nandoon naman yung shower area na pina-ikutan ng glass wall. The wall was divided into two part, the blurry part and the clear part. Obviously yung blurry part ay mula sa ibaba hanggang sa shoulder level na sinundan naman ng clear part from shoulder level up to the ceiling. And by just looking at this, pakiramdam ko ay mawawala agad lahat ng pagod ko kapag ginamit at pinag-paliguan ko na ito mamaya.

Matapos silipin ang comfort room ay sumalubong naman sa akin ang living area na nasa may gawing kanan pagka-lagpas lamang ng mini hallway, nasa taas na part naman nito ang isang split-type airconditioned unit. Katapat nito ang isang king size bed na nasa may gawing kaliwa naman. May bed-side table din sa gilid nito na sinundan naman ng study table at book shelves sa pinaka-dulong bahagi ng kwarto.

The dirty kitchen is in the opposite side, the sink which is designed with a long-grey tiled counter  and a four-burner electric stove that were fixed in the counter. On the upper part, the closed-white hanging cabinet and the exhaust system for the stove were installed. There were also a few cabinets, dishwasher and oven underneath the counter followed by the medium size fix-in refrigerator against the wall, naka-pwesto ito sa isang cabinet kaya hindi ito agad-agad mapapansin kung hindi bubuksan.

But the most interesting part for me was the bar counter, kalapit lang ito ng kitchen area at ito din yung nagsisilbing division ng living area sa mismong dirty kitchen. Sa labas na part nito nakalagay yung mga upuan na madalas ko lang nakikita sa mga coffee shop.

Napangiti na lamang ako habang pinagmamasdan ang kabuuan ng kwarto ko.

"Napaka-gwapong bata, nag-mana ka nga talaga kay Greg nung kabataan nito." Bulong ni Tita Lisa matapos ako nitong mahuling nakangiti.

"Wait–matagal niyo na pong kakilala ang daddy ko?" Medyo gulat kong tanong dito.

Yeah I know the fact na magka-kilala sila Tita Lisa at ang parents ko pero hindi ko alam na magkaka-kilala na pala sila noon pa, dahil kung tama nga ang narinig ko ay yuon nga ang ibig sabihin non–that they know each other eversince.

"Ha? Ah ano—of course I know your father! We are a good business partners after all–right?" Balisadong sagot nito sa akin. Tila bigla itong na-ilang at hindi makatingin sa akin ng diretso. Nagtataka akong tumingin dito, mababakas sa mukha ko na hindi ako kumbinsido sa naging sagot niya. I think that she's hiding something, there's more into it, I know.

"Sige mauuna na'ko ha, if you need anything, tawagan mo lang ako." Nakangiting paalam ni Tita Lisa at saka tuluyan nang lumabas ng pinto.

Hindi ko na lamang pinansin ang kaka-ibang kilos nito nang mabanggit ko ang tungkol kay dad. Siguro ay may na mis-interpret lamang ako, masiyado na yata akong nagiging obserbance sa mga taong naka-paligid sa akin. That was the perks of being a silent guy, the more I'm being timid–the more I've notice something. Sabi nga nila, kapag tahimik ka ay matututo kang obserbahan at pakinggan yung mga nasa paligid mo, intentional man ito or hindi.

I decided na i-ayos na muna lahat ng mga gamit ko, especially yung mga dala kong maleta na sinundo ko pa sa hotel na tinuluyan ko simula nung dumating ako. Nang matapos ako sa ginagawa ay dumiretso na ako kaagad sa comfort room upang maligo at magbabad. Nakapag dinner naman na ako sa labas kanina bago pa ako pumunta ng hotel kaya wala na akong ibang gagawin ngayon kundi ang ipahinga ang buong katawan at isip ko mula sa napaka-habang araw na ito.

Napahinga ako ng maluwag nang marinig kong 16 votes ang nakuha ko–kapantay ng nakuhang votes ni John Patrick, which means the voting between the two of us will be repeated. Ibig din sabihin ay may chance pa na mas mataas ang makuha niyang boto sa ikalawang ulit ng botohan, and besides, kaming dalawa na lang naman ang natitirang nominies kaya paniguradong malilipat sa kanya ang ibang boto ng mga kaklase namin. Buti na lang talaga at— "Wait–I'm giving my vote to Yuri!"

Tuluyan nang nawala ang natitirang ngiti at pag-asang nakaplaster sa aking mukha ng marinig ko ang mga katagang iyon na nagmumula sa nakabukas na pintuan sa gawing likod ng classroom. Gulat ding napalingon ang lahat dito na sinundan na sandaling katahimikan.

"What? I said I'm giving my vote to Yuri, lumabas lang ako saglit kanina." Nakangiting saad ni Patricia–the elected muse. Napansin kong tumingin ito sa harapan at saka bahagyang ngumisi.

"Which means that Yuri already got 17 votes in total right?" Dagdag pa nito at saka nag-simulang bumalik sa kanyang upuan.

After that unexpected turn of events, I was declared as the elected escort of the BSBIO 1-1 section. Yey great! I sarcastically screamed inside my head. When the clapping hands of my classmates to congratulate me settled down, sir Alfonso instructed us the elected officers to come and stand to the front for the picture taking and for the short message that will be coming from the elected president–Zachary Von Moore Bautista.

"As the elected president, I'm saying my thanks to all of you for giving me your trust as well as the unwavering support eversince," Panimula nito.

"And I will do my very best to fulfill my duty and obligations as your leader and president,"

"And to my fellow officers, I hope that you can all support me throughout the whole year, I'm also hoping that each one of you knows your position and obligations as well,"

"Learn on how to help and cooperate to every activities that we were going to perform," This time ay tumingin siya sa gawi ko at mabilis akong pinadaanan ng tingin.

"That's all, thank you." Pagtatapos nito sa napakahusay nitong mensahe na sinundan naman ng masigabong palakpakan ng lahat.

Pero bakit pakiramdam ko ay sa akin niya sinasabi yung mga huling mensaheng sinabi niya. Did he just mock me? My brows furrowed as I felt my blood flowing up to my face.

I stop my shameful reminiscing about on what happen yesterday on the election. I almost forgot that I already have a position and sooner or later it will actually be tested. Sa pag-iisip ko ay binalot nanaman ako ng frustration at nakalimutan kong kanina pa pala ako nandito sa harapan ng pintuan ng aming classroom.

I was finally about to hold the door knob when it suddenly open making my heart to jump a little bit.

"What are you doing?" Seryosong tanong ni Zach habang naka-kunot ang mga kilay at mari-ing nakatingin sa mga mata ko. Nakahawak pa'rin ang isang kamay nito sa door knob ng di-slide na pintuan habang ang isa naman ay nakasukbit sa bulsa ng itim niyang pantalon.

"I CAN'T TAKE THIS SKILL PRACTICE."

What? She can't take it? 

"No! You and you must! Unless you want me to remove you from the list of students who are going to take the final physical exams. Don't test my patience Ms. Volmalos--" 

"I am forbidden to take part in any practices. I am sure you know that or maybe you forgot that Sir Max?" forbidden siya? Bakit? 

"She's right." isang boses lalaki ang nagpakaba sakin. Kilalang-kilala ko ang boses na iyon. 

"And why is that, council president?" wait, what? He is a council president? Andrew is A council member amd moreover, the president? 

"Hah. Sir Max, I know that you know that the Headmaster himself forbids me and the secretary to take part in any practices especially, skills practice." a sudden realization hits the mentor sa sinabi ni Andrew. Isang matalim na titig ang ginawad niya kay Snow bago siya umalis. 

Kung yung tahimik na paligid nung pinakilala nung HM si Snow sakin, nakisama na rin sa aming tatlo ang tension. Ang awkward. Nakakabakla pero, yon nga eh. Ang awkward. 

"I know that you know that the Headmaster himself forbids me and the secretary to take part in any practices especially, skills practice."

What does he mean by it?

"I guess you are the new guy huh?" amber colored eyes. Sigurado akong si Andrew ang lalaking ito kahit na iba na ang paraan ng kanyang hairstyle at pananamit. And one thing, why don't he remember--

"Just a piece of advice Mr. Manediul, don't let them hear your thoughts." kung kaninang nasa harap siya ni Snow ay nasa harap ko na siya. He-He is fast. And how did he... 

Tinignan naman ako ni Snow na para bang I said something funny. Napailing iling na lang siya. It's a bit mysterious about her mask kasi ang nakikita lang is ang kaliwa niyang mata while her whole face is covered. 

'He isn't the only one who can do that, mind you.' nagulat na lang ako ng marinig ko ang boses ni Snow sa utak ko. Paano siya nakikipagusap ng sabay kay Andrew at akin? She is currently talking to Andrew pero sigurado akong...hay nako.

Pagkabukas ko ng pinto ng sinabing klasroom ko, lahat ng mata at atensyon ng buong klase ay napunta sakin. Pati ang kay Volmalos ay naagaw ko. 

"Erm di ba siya daw ang new student?" 

"I don't know pero nakita kong kasama siya nung council secretary kanina at galing sa principal's office kaya siguro siya nga." 

"Saang school ba siya galing?" 

"Omg ang gwapo." bulungan ng mga 'kaklase' ko. Hayst. Tama ba talaga ang na pinasukan kong room? 

"Silence everyone! By the way, are you the new student?" 

"Obviously. Kita naman sa itsura ko di ba ma'am?" as I said that emotionless, I heard some gasps coming from the class. I made sure na hindi masyadong cold ang pagkasabi ko non pero nagulat ang teacher sa inasta ko. Back to being a deadface again. (According to Snow.)

"Hm...What's your name again?" 

"Derek. Derek Manediul." 

Halata ang gulat at takot ng teacher sakin nang marinig niya ang pangalan ko. 

"O-Oh M-Mr. Manediul. I am glad to have you in my class. Please come inside to greet your classmates." kalmado ngunit may hint ng fear sa boses niya. 

"Okay class, we have a new student today! Please proceed to that seat please. Hindi ko alam na ikaw pala ang new student kaya nasa bandang likod ko nailagay ang upuan mo pero ililipat na rin kita--." may bibig naman ako ah? Pwedeng ako naman na ang magsasalita kasi ayaw kong may makakaalam ng tungkol kila dad ngayon pero wala na, sinabi na nung teacher. And tinatamad na rin akobg magsalita. 

"No need for that. Mas gusto ko sa likod, Ma'am." nang sumulyap ako sa pwesto ng upuan ko, hindi ko inaasahang katabi ko si Snow. May napansin nga lang ako nabakanteng upuan sa tabi ni Snow. She now wears gloves. Hmm...I wonder why. 

"Okay! Mr. Manediul, since you are new here, let me prompt you about the school. All of you, listen here. Uccidere High was one of the top schools in the world hanggang ngayon. Uccidere was an Italian word mean 'to kill'. Sa panlabas na anyo ng school na to, peaceful ang dating. Pero once na nakapasok ka na, prepare to have your hands to be stained with blood. Last year, maraming estudyante ang nawala dahil mga weak sila. Remember that only the strongest can survive in this kind of place. And the weak? Trust me, they will never have the chance to get out of this place. We have here assassins and master assassins. The top assassins are competing for the master assassins ranks. Because once you are a master assassin, you can get out of this place, and serve the royal family. For the rules, the apprentices can't kill easily. Even the top assassins. Only the master assassins. Even sa mga summoners. And yes, sa mangyayaring final physical exam, doon kayo iclaclassify kung saang gang kayo since all of you are already 2nd year students. That's all." tsk. Bakit ba ang hilig nilang magpaliwanag sa mga bagay na hindi naman tinatanong?

"Ma'am, why did they change the name of this university in the first place?" tanong nung babaeng nasa harap na nakasalamin. They did?

"Who are the owners?" napalingon kami sa nagsalita na malapit sa bintana.

"The Royal Family." naputol na lang ang teacher nang biglang nagsalita ang katabi ko na si Snow. At lahat ng klase ay nasa kanya ang atensyon. After kasi nung kanina, pinapunta ako ng COUNCIL PRESIDENT sa registrar at dumiretso na ako dito. 

"Correct! But...no one knows about a single info about them until today. How did you know that Ms. Moon?" Moon? As in buwan? 

"Simple Ma'am Nix. I was a bookworm and I already read the history of this school." imbes na bigyan pa siya ng pansin, nilibot ko ang paningin ko sa classroom. Maganda naman ang interior kasi may aircon at maayos ang pagkakaayos ng mga kurtina. 

"But about the owners especially about the Royal Family...there are no...writings about it. So, how did you know?" wala na talaga ako sa mood para pakinggan ang mga pinagsasasabi nila. 

"How about you Ma'am? How did you know when you said that there are no writings about them?" tila nagulat ang teacher namin sa inasal ni Snow na para bang naninibago siya, pati na rin ang buong klase. 

But she has a point. However, she is really mysterious for me. Paanong parang rami niyang alam samantalang isa lang siyang estudyante? 

'Don't let the teacher notice your minds' absence.' narinig ko naman ang boses ni Snow sa isip ko kaya tinignan ko siya pero nakatingin lang siya sa harap. 

'Stop thinking useless things and make sure you shut your mind.'

How can she remain calm while talking to two persons at the same time? 

" O-Okay. Enough for that. And also! I heard that the both of Mr. Manediul and Ms. Volmalos are going to have a skill practice--" 

"Which is cancelled immediately." putol ni Snow sa mentor na nagpabigat sa tensyon sa buong klase. After nun, pinagpatuloy na lamang nung mentor ang pagdidiscuss para raw makahabol ako sa topic nila. Hayst. 

After ng discuss, bago ko pa mahagilap si Snow ay wala na siya sa tabi ko. Nagteteleport din ba siya? 

"Hey...."napalingon naman ako sa nagsalita nang nakapoker-face lang ako. Wow wow wow. Look what we have in here. 

"Hey bud! Kamusta ka na! Antagal na rin nung huli tayong nagkita ah? Wait, is it five years already? I mean look at you! Gumwapo ka na! Pero mas gwapo ako sayo hahaha." halos magpintig ang tenga ko sa rami ng sinabi ni Sniper Smith. He is the son of the Smith Technology Company. One of my best friends. Siya lang ang nakasama ko ng matagal kasi nagibang bansa ang isa ko pang kaibigan. 

"Snipe, I want you to find informations about the council secretary." Snipe is his nickname which I made and he is a very good hacker. He can hack your phone without you knowing it. But...why did we meet here? 

"Bakit? Wow! It is amazing that it was our reunion and now you are ordering me to...? And especially! The one you want to know is no other than the student council secretary!" tinignan ko siya ng masama kasi nakakaagaw na siya ng atensyon. Hanep ang klaseng baril na to ah? 

"What do you mean? I am only curious about her. I have a doubt that she hides something. She knows something about the history, so, I really think that she is not an ordinary student." napatulala na lang si Sniper  pagkatapos kong magsalita. 

"Derek, do you have a fever? " halos nagsalubong na ang kilay ko sa tanong niya. Baka naman siya yun? 

"Ulol. Hindi. Baka ikaw ang maysakit dyan."

"Hindi! Ikaw ang maysakit! Ngayon ko lang kasi narinig na may pake ka na lalo na sa paligid mo! Hahaha! Dali Derek! Record mo ule HAHAHA." 

"One..."

Napatigil naman si Sniper nang nagbilang ako. Hah. Alam niya dapat kung anong nangyayari kapag natapos akong nagbilang. Instead na itigil ko na, tinuloy ko pa rin. 

"Two..."

"H-Hey!" hayst, hindi pa rin siya nagbabago kaya tinuloy ko pa rin ang pantritrip ko sakanya. Yes, I know na hindi iyon uhmm...nakakatawa pero, masaya lang talaga pagtripan si Snipe eh. 

"Three..."

Pinangliitan niya lang ako ng paningin. 

"Fou--!" 

" Calling the attention of Mr. Derek Maneduil. Your dad is here. He said he will wait for you. Thank you." napatigil ako sa pagbibilang nang nagsalita yung isang speaker na nagsalita. Nakaligtas ang bugok. Ngiting ngiti eh. Wala sa sarili akong napabugtong hininga. 

"Saved by the bell.." sumaludo pa siya sakin bago umalis nang may ngiting tagumpay. 

"Where is he?" tanong ko sa body gurad ng dad ko na nasa harap na ng classroom ko. 

"He is in the gate sir." 

"Ok." tumayo na ako at nagsimulang naglakad. I sighed again. Bakit naman siya nandito? 
Tsk, hindi ko tuloy na pagtripan si Sniper.

"The new student is a Manediul?" 

"Omygod! What grade is he?!" 

"Gwapo!" 

"Tounge in a disc! Sana classmate ko siyaa! Kyaaahh! " 

Halos mabingi na ako sa tilian at sigawan ng nga kababaihan. Kulang nalang na mabasag ang glass windows ng school na to. Agad ko namang nahagilap ang dad ko na kausap ang Headmaster ng school na si Sir James. What are they talking about? 

"He should not meet her..."

"Oh there you are little sprout! Kamusta naman ang first day mo?" napalingon namna sa direksyon ko ang HM at si Dad nang magsalita ito. Natigil rin ang paguusap nila. 

"It's fine." agad naman akong pumasok ng sasakyan at kinuha ang phone at nagplay ng music. 

'He should not meet her?' 

Sino ang tinutukoy ng HM? At bakit? Bakit parang binabalaan ng HM ang dad ko? Ano ang alam ng HM at ni Dad? 

"Son..."pambungad ni dad na siya namang dahilan para tanggalin ang earphones ko at makinig sa kung ano mang sasabihin niya. 

" How was your first day? "

"I said it was fine. "

"The HM told me that tomorrow you will have a skills practice with your fellow classmate. Who is she? What family is she from?" 

"She is Moon Volmalos. She looks likes a bookworm and a nerd but she's kinda...mysterious." I better watch out for Snow and Andrew. They can read minds. 

"Volmalos? Maybe she is from Italy." 
Wait, what? Dad knows something? 

"By the way Dad, ano ang pinaguusapan niyo nung HM ng Uccidere High?" 

"Ah..yon. May kinalaman ang history ng U-High." 

"You mean the mysterious killings of students?" 

"Yes. By the way, Andrew Kroburur, your best friend, pinasok siya ng royal family sa U-High. Hindi namin alam ang dahilan pati ang HM walang ka-alam alam. Sigurado akong ang heir ng mismong royal family ang binabantayan ni Andrew. Derek, isa kang Manediul. We are of course, have a connection with the Kroburur. Do everything you can to know why Andrew Kroburur was studying in that school." nagpanggap akong hindi naapektuham sa sinabi niya. " And also, the HM is somewhat, interested in what your abilities are." hmm...kaya pala ganun na lang ang usapan namin ng HM kaninang umaga. 

Wala rin sa sarili akong napangiti. I am a Manediul. And I am gonna prove them that I am worthy of my name.

" Hey Derek! So, paano mo nalaman ang number ko?" napakunot naman agad ako ng noo. Napakadaldal niya talaga kahit kailan. 

"I have my ways Snipe." 

"Ano ka? BDO? You find ways?" dinig na dinig ko ang nakakainis niyang halakhak niya sa kabilang linya. 

"Gago hindi ka talaga nagbabago kasi hanggang ngayon, napakapilosopo mo. By the way, do you have the infos?" sabi ko habang nakatulala sa kisame ng kwarto ko. 

"Well yes. Teka nga, bakit mo ba gustong malaman kung sino siya?" wala sa oras akong napabangon. Andami naman niyang tanong. 

"Tss." 

"Okay okay. Moon Volmalos. Wala masyadong information sa kanya. May 9, 2003. Taga Italy siya. She is the daughter of the current CeO of Volmalos Group. Yun lang nothing else. Masyadong walang laman ang profile niya. Maski sa registrar, walang info. Send ko pa sayo ang softcopy." tama siya. Nung nakuha ko na ang softcopy, walang kalaman-laman. Maski ang birthday niya kahina-hinala. Nakasulat lang kung saan siya nakatira ngayon at ang family info niya. Nothing else. Nauna nang pumatay ng tawag si Snipe kasi may aayusin pa daw siya. 

Bakit ba napakamysteryoso niya? Ngayon, nadagdagan ng curiosity tungkol sa kanya. 

Who are you, Snow? 

Pati na rin ang mystery about kay Andrew, bakit?! 

Napatingin na lang ako sa bintana ko, only seeing a black rose....that only grew in under the moonlight. 

"Kamusta ka na Aliya? Mi...manchi proprio ora...la mia principessa." tinignan kong mabuti ang black rose na nasa harap ko.
