Just a bunch of writing assignments from school that I thought I should post on my Wattpad.

Chapter 6. Thoughts

"Ren, how is your school going?"

"Ah, it's going well."

Ren answered his mother's question as he was eating dinner. 

"Have your already thought of a university?"

'University!'

Ren slightly frown hearing that question. He had not thought about going to a university. No, he don't know if he really wanted to go to a university or not.

In his previous life, university was the place where everything had started for him and he also didn't have many good memories of it.

Although Ren had those thoughts, he still answered his mother normally.

"I hadn't thought of anything yet."

His mother frowned at Ren's answer and said.

"You are already in your third year and there's less than a year left to the university exams. You have to thought about these things quickly."

"Yes"

Ren simply nodded at his mother's words and noticing that, his mother nagging continued.

"You have to do well in your upcoming midterm exams. If you want to join some cram schools, tell me. I will give you the money for it."

Ren simply nodded at his mother's words but he was frowning inwardly. 

'This was very similar to my last life.'

The conversation Ren was currently having was very similar to his last life. 

At that time, his parents had continued to nag him everyday with a silmilar conversation and Ren had to listen to their words and go to various cram schools.

Although the result was good and Ren was able to get into a literary college because of it but only Ren knew that he had pushed himself to study.

That was not a pleasant phase in his life. It was only after entering the college that he had confronted his parents and decided to write a novel.

"Are you listening to me? If you don't study now, you won't be able to get a job like your father and live a good life."

Ren instinctively frowned at his mother's words. He was really frowning too much but he can't do anything about it when his mother talked about his father in the conversation.

His father was a office worker and he also have a good salary and a high position. He also have a good wife and a son. You can describe him as a happy man but…..

'His seat was empty as usual.'

Ren glanced at his father's seat which was empty. It was like this for at least half of the month. His father would often work overtime and come home late.

You could say that his life was good but it was too tiring. Even if Ren forced himself, he didn't wanted to live that kind of life.

It was simply too exhausting!

"Do you understand? You have to do well in your studies or you will not be able to succeed in life."

Ren wanted to retort her words but he knew it wasn't the time for that. In his previous life, he had a fallout with his parents and they had never met each other till his death.

He didn't wanted to have the same experience in this life. Only after being lonely did he understood the value of parents.

For now, he can only listen to the nagging of his mother while consecutively nodding his head.

'What do I do from now on?'

It was a question Ren was continuously asking himself. His mind was in a mess. It wasn't because of his mother's nagging but because of a sentence that was roaming in his mind.

'You will do well as a author!'

They are the words that Nakai sensei had told him and since then, he had thinking about those words.

Can he really be a author? Can he really write a good story? What are the chances of him succeeding? He can also fail, right.

Those were the thoughts that were roaming in his head. Although he had said that he will continue his career as a author if he get the second chance but he was not sure if he can really walk the path again.

You could say he was insecure. He was afraid of the failure. He didn't wanted to go through the same life again.

'But what can I do if not writing?'

He thought of his earlier conversation with his mother. His mother wished him to go to a university and get a office job but Ren knew he wasn't suitable for it.

He knew that he will not be able to survive in that kind of job. It also wasn't like he was just starting his high school.

He was already in his third year of high school. There wasn't much time left before he had to face society.

He can either go through what his mother said and regret or he he could go through his own path and live a life of no regrets.

It was really obvious what he should choose but he was slightly afraid. 

'The only thing I didn't regret.'

As he was thinking about that, he thought of his previous life. He had many regrets in that life but there was one thing he never regretted, it was choosing his life as a author.

He never regretted that he choosed to become a author until he died. 

While thinking about that, Ren stood up from his bed and opened his laptop.

It was a laptop which was only used by the previous owner to play games but it still had a writing software.

Ren opened the software and wrote the working title on it. 

'Genius.'

He had decided to write the same topic Nakai sensei had told him to but he didn't plan to just write the story based on his essay.

A essay and a novel is a fundamentally different thing. 

A essay consist of the author's own arguments and thoughts about a topic but a novel also have to connect to the readers.

He will have to change the story completely if he wanted his novel to connect with the readers.

'What do I write about?'

He wanted to write about something he can relate to. Genius was a topic that was closely related to his past life but adapting it into a novel is different.

'A story about a genius!'

A story than relates closely to his past life but can he really say that he was a genius.

Ren didn't knew the question to this answer. If he really was a genius, then he shouldn't have failed but he also can't deny that he was called a genius.

If he really believed that he was a genius, then he can't deny that geniuses can also fail.

His mind was in a web of thoughts but before he realised, his hands were already moving.

He was typing words very quickly and soon, he had wrote nearly 5000 words.

He looked at the time, it was already 12. It should have slept already but his mind was wide awake and he wanted to write currently.

'It was a nostalgic feeling.'

While writing, he felt the nostalgic feeling he used to feel in his previous life. He was writing after a long time but he felt like he was again alive.

'It is a good feeling.'

While thinking about that, Ren continued to write

Fame, wealth, prestige, genius, destruction, despair, loss and failure.

Those are the eight words which describes Ren's life completely.

He was hailed as a genius but his arrogance led him to despair. From a genius, he became a failure.

He was just struggling with his life when fate gave him a second chance.

Now, what will he do after he found himself waking up in another world.

　　After an unperceived amount of time, he woke up once again.

　　Yet again he felt disoriented, and a feeling of panic slowly started creeping up on him once more. However, this time, he quickly suppressed those feelings. He knew that once he let himself fall into panic, he would once again grow tired extremely quickly. He did not know why this was the case, but he could feel the tendrils of exhaustion slowly trying to get a hold of him already.

　　Even thinking such simple thoughts caused him to grow increasingly tired. He quickly tried to get what he knew in order before he succumbed to sleep once more.

　　He knew he had been on a tight schedule, finishing his software by double-checking the code so that he could send it to the company the next day. Being a programmer was hard at a time when AIs could write most of the code by themselves, and the only way to earn a living was to constantly come up with new, creative ways of using the coding language, to differentiate your software from those of the AIs.

　　Creativity was the only field in which AIs had not been able to surpass humans… yet.

　　He remembered being extremely exhausted and anxious while working, when he suddenly felt his heart beat at an irregular rhythm. He felt a sudden sharp pain start in his heart as it clenched tightly, then the unbearable pain shot up, through his spine, and he felt his consciousness start slipping away.

　　He felt death approach him.

　　He could not even make a sound.

　　The only thought in his head was, "Am I going to die? Just like this?"

　　He had not known his parents, for he was an orphan. With no relatives to speak of, and because of the immense societal pressure, he had had to start doing part time since very young. Due to always being preoccupied with putting food on the table and paying for his own education, he had extremely few and distant friends, and as for close friends, he had none. Of course, it was self-evident that he had never been in a relationship of any kind.

　　As his life up to that point had flashed before his eyes, he only found himself in school, university, and work, without any rest at any time. It was understandable why he would feel that life was unfair, trivial, and worthless. As though he had served no purpose, made no impact on anyone or anything.

　　The only feeling he had felt before his consciousness had left him, was indignation.

　　Just recalling what had happened previously had already taken up all of his mental strength. He could no longer keep himself conscious. As the bindings of fatigue fully coiled themselves around him, he once more slipped into a deep slumber.

　　When he next awakened, he no longer felt as disoriented as the previous two times.

　　He quickly got to sorting out his thoughts, for he knew that time was limited, and he had to figure out as much as he could before he succumbed once more to whatever was impairing his stamina so severely.

　　He tried to figure out what had happened that had caused him to suddenly undergo a near death experience.

　　After a while of deliberation, he came to the conclusion that he had most likely had a heart attack due to a lack of sleep, exhaustion due to over-working, and severe anxiety over many days. He suddenly felt concerned about whether he still had the job or not, whether they would still pay him for the software he had made or not, whether all the time and effort spent on programming for that software had been in vain or not…

　　No, he should not think in such a manner.

　　He knew that it was a miracle that he had survived, since he had not been able to make any sound to call for help, and almost no one knew where he lived, much less visited him. But after coming to this conclusion, he was even more puzzled.

　　Why couldn't he open his eyes? Why was he cramped in such a confined space? Why was being cramped for such a long time not uncomfortable? Why did the air he was breathing seem to be so viscous? Why did he have such a low amount of stamina? Why did he not feel any hunger at all?

　　Why?

　　He was far more confused now than before. Getting his thoughts in order had not helped at all. He also still had no idea for how to escape his current predicament. He was far too weak to be able to break through whatever was confining him. He did not know what the future held for him.

　　Was he crippled or disabled in some way due to the accident? How much would it cost to cover the medical fees once he was cured? Would he ever be fully cured?

　　No.

　　Stop.

　　He forcefully stopped himself from thinking.

　　He knew his thoughts were going in circles. Worrying would not do anything helpful in the current situation. He was powerless to do anything, and he had to accept it.

　　His ability to stop his thoughts from going awry was one of his strong suits. He had trained himself in meditation when he had started getting overwhelmed with work during high school, and that had come in very handy on a daily basis since he had been able to relax through it.

　　He let all thoughts fade away from his mind, as though uncovering a veil that he never knew was covering him.

　　Then he let that thought fade away as well.

　　He started progressively going deeper and deeper into nothingness as he let his perceptions slowly fade away layer by layer.

　　After a long, unperceived amount of time, he felt calmer than he had ever felt. Suddenly he felt as though there was a slow and steady warm current washing over him, the feeling was almost imperceptibly faint, but he had felt it. And the moment he noticed it, the slight amount of deviation of his focus caused the feeling to instantly disappear like a phantom.

　　As soon as that faint feeling disappeared, the fatigue struck him so strongly that he immediately lost consciousness.

　　Hello everyone, I'm Shaptarshi Joarder, but you can call me Jovian.

　　I hope everyone enjoyed the start of the story.

　　I'm planning on making this story a very long journey where everyone can follow alongside the MC as he lives his life filled with fun and adventure. This story, while it will still have the occasional dark scenes filled with intensity and intrigue, will most of the time strive to be something to help you relax. It is meant to be a lighthearted but very interesting and fun to read story.

　　This will be my first time writing a story, so I implore everyone to leave comments, both with things I've done right and (especially) with things I've done wrong, so that I can learn from my mistakes and grow.

　　P.S. I have very little programming background. I'm a Financial and Business Economics major, not someone who's part of any of the IT fields. All programing related aspects of the story will be written while taking massive creative liberties.

This is a story about the adventure and fun-filled life of the first magus in a world that only knew cultivation. Join his journey as you experience his joys, horrors, excitement, indignation, and triumphs. Watch him grow and change along with the people and places that he visits. This is a story about life in a world filled with fantasy and majesty. This is the story of the primus magus.

Zhang Zian wanted to find a moment of leisure in his busy life.
He was heading off to the capital the next day, so that day was his last leisure time before he had to leave.
In the morning, Zhang Zian and the shop assistants finished cleaning and saw that it was still early. There were no guests for the time being, so they each went to find their own places to rest.
Lu Yiyun laid on the cashier's desk, concentrating on painting. Even though she did not want to go out to sea to whale watch, she was unable to endure the urges of the rest of the people. She was hesitating as to whether she should join the rest to watch a movie at night, but that meant that she needed go to the cinema.
She had not gone to the cinema in a very long time. She often felt that it was kind of an exclusive place that had nothing to do with her, but she did not give a flat refusal. Instead, she thought about it over and over again.
Wang Qian was not using his phone to play games, which was rare for him. Instead, he was searching for different kinds of snacks from online retailers. It was a difficult chance to come by––to go out to sea to play for a day––and he definitely wanted to play for a long time. He wanted to play to his heart's content.
Li Kun was next door choosing drinks to buy.
Jiang Feifei borrowed a camera from her classmates. It was best to bring a DSLR camera with a long focus lens. At sea, the shooting range of a phone camera was not enough. If they met whales but did not have any pictures, wouldn't that be a pity?
Zhang Zian was reclined on the recliner chair with a Ge You posture, and was also playing his phone; however, he was not chatting with anyone and was not playing games. Instead, he was checking the forums.
Recently, he had been busy with things, so he did not have time to casually check through the Wang Haige Forum. Since that could be considered where his store grew from, he would occasionally go and bless it.
As he entered the pets section, he just happened to find a new post:
[High Salt Content]: "I want to buy a cat. Which local pet shop or cat house is most reliable?"
He suddenly felt refreshed, and his hands quickly typed out a reply.
[The Hottie Manager]: "Of course it's the Amazing Fate Pet Shop on Zhonghua Road. The prices are affordable––they don't cheat you of your money––and the most important thing is that the boss is very handsome! Right, is the host a beautiful woman? If you are a beautiful woman, it is not recommended that you go, because you could faint because of the boss' handsomeness."
He pressed "reply" contentedly.
He did not think someone would reply so fast.
[High Salt Content]: "Haha, it's not a beautiful woman, it's a rough man. Zhonghua Road right? All right, I've taken note of it."
Immediately, there were other people replying.

Zhang Zian had already separated himself from that forum post, and went to browse other posts in the pet section. He would let them show off for a while, then in a while he would return to open up a group ridicule.
He was swiping his finger on the screen, and very quickly noticed another post.

A few days ago, I heard that there were pupils abusing cats there. Teachers told parents that they needed to teach their children to not bully kittens––the kids could not catch up to the adult cats, so they could only bully kittens.
When I first heard of it, I thought it was just children being mischievous and throwing stones at kittens; however, this morning when I passed by that place on the way to work, I saw something squirming in the grass. I thought it was a kitten that had not opened its eyes. Upon seeing that there were no big cats around, I decided to go and help it.
I meowed to imitate the cat. There was a kitten that crawled out of the grass; it limped and crawled to where I was. As it crawled and crawled, it crawled incorrectly…"
[Fat Security Guard]: "Brother, why did you stop? Is it that the child broke the kitten's legs?"
[Collapse The World]: "No, the kitten's eyes had been dug out."
[Strongest Paragraph Player]: "It couldn't be, right? That's so cruel."
[Look At That Dog]: "F*ck! Are you sure a child did it?"
[Collapse The World]: "It's practically confirmed, even though I did not see it with my own eyes. If I had seen it with my own eyes, I would definitely have stopped the child."
[Fat Security Guard]: "It's really that there are talented people coming out every generation, and each new generation takes the place of the old generation! Thinking back, when I was young, all I dared to do was pull on the grasshopper's legs and use hot water to burn ants…"

[Collapse The World]: "That's not it. After I heard about this case, I suddenly had an idea and compiled a web crawler program to collect relevant information with the keyword "cat abuse." Guess what I found?"

[Collapse The World]: "Our Binhai City's local forum is Wang Haige Forum, and the rest of the big, medium, and small cities all have their own local forums. Usually, only locals go to these forums, and news only spreads and is discussed in these forums. The web crawler software I programmed searches through the local forums of other cities throughout the country. It found that cat abuse cases do not only exist in Binhai City."
[Fat Security Guard]: "Brother, aren't you just saying crap? It's not possible that only Binhai City people do bad things!"
[Collapse The World]: "No, I haven't finished saying what I want to say yet. I have compiled the cat abuse cases over the last three months, and I have found a very interesting phenomenon. Cat abuse cases have occurred frequently in all parts of the country in the past three months, but they are most concentrated in the eastern part of the country… Of course, it seems normal since the eastern region is densely populated with a lot of humans and cats, so having more cat abuses cases was also normal… However, the most interesting thing is that, if we count the number of cat abuse incidents and connect the cities with similar numbers together, we will find that the cat abuse cases seem to be occur with Binhai City as the center. From there, they radiate out to the whole country."
[Fat Security Guard]: "…What does this imply?"
[Wooden Horse]: "With Binhai City as the center? When did Binhai City suddenly get a place as a first tier city in the country? Is this just a coincidence?"
[Collapse The World]: "I don't know… I'm just truthfully describing the results after the web crawler collected information and filtered it. How to analyze these results, on the other hand, is not what I specialize at. Actually the original reason I created this web crawler program was to write a psychological paper concerning cat abuse, but the more I checked into it the weirder it became. The more I checked, the colder my heart became, and I could no longer write the paper anymore."
[Fat Security Guard]: "Brother, I feel that you should continue writing it. If this paper is published, perhaps it could change the situation for the better."
[Collapse The World]: "Haha, I know clearly my own worth. Even if the paper was published, it would be like a splash of a small stone thrown into the sea."
[Fat Security Guard]: "Don't underestimate yourself! I think you speak clearly and reasonably. The paper you write would definitely be excellent. Maybe you will even win a Nobel Prize in Psychology!"
[Collapse The World]: "…"
[The Hottie Manager]: "@Collapse The World, Can you send me a copy of the web crawler software you programmed? Would it infringe on your patent or copyright or something?"
[The Forehead Reflects Light]: "Oh ho! The pretentious shop manager has learned guerilla warfare and ran here to show off again."
[Collapse The World]: "@The Hottie Manager, It's not to the extent of infringing on my patent. This program is not really that complicated, and if you want it I can send it to you. What do you want it for?"
[The Hottie Manager]: "Because I'm interested in this cat abuse case, but I don't want to do research like you. Instead, I want to find the law, and perhaps there will be a way to spread the news of such cases."
[A Deadly Stone]: "@The Hottie Manager, This posing of yours is destined to fail! The person has already said that cat abuse cases are occurring all over the country. What are you going to use to stop it? Unless you pass a law right now, and it's a law that is strictly enforced, there is no way to stop this!"

Zhang Zian's gaze moved to the top right hand corner of the forum application. There was a small red dot there, showing that there was new message.
He entered the forum's inbox and saw a new website's short message there. The message was very short, only one sentence long.
[Collapse The World]: "The website does not allow me to send an attached file. Give me an email address."
Zhang Zian liked that kind of efficient person. He instantly sent his email address over.
After a short while, his phone notification showed that he had received a new email. The email had multiple attachments.
The email body said, "The software can be used on the windows platform, and in the file there is the instructions on how to use it. Collecting data needs a certain amount of time, so you can first take a look at the data I collected. If you have something you are not sure of, you can contact me."
Zhang Zian rolled out of the reclining chair and stood up, holding his phone. With a thump, thump, thump, he came to the living room on the second floor.
"Pi, let me use the computer for a while," he said.
"Zhi zhi." Pi saved the document it had yet to finish writing. It stretched and jumped down from the chair, walking in circles around the living room.
"Right, Pi… How about taking a few days off starting tomorrow?" he casually asked as he sat down and opened his email inbox.
"Zhi zhi?" Pi blinked its eyes, shocked.
"I'm bringing Famous to the capital to take part in the movie festival tomorrow. Why don't we all go together and have fun? There should be quite a few interesting places in the capital… Haven't you stayed at home since the Spring Festival when you went to the countryside to set off fireworks? Take this opportunity to go to the capital, take a look around, and learn. You must not only read ten thousand books, but you must also walk ten thousand miles," he advised.
He could discuss it with the rest of the elfins later, but if Pi wanted to come along, it needed to ask for leave in its chapter that was set to be published that day.
Pi scratched its head, troubled. On one hand, it did want to go and have a fun trip with the rest, but on the other hand, it could not bear to stop its updates.
Zhang Zian let it consider for a while while he downloaded the files in the email to the computer. Just in case, he even did a virus scan…
The attachments included a web crawler program, an instruction manual, and even a zip file, which was all pictures.
He did a simple scan of the instruction manual. This web crawler program was specially used for searching for cat abuse cases, and the way to use it was quite simple; however, depending on the performance of the computer, it would take a long time. If it was an in-depth search, it would take even more time.
The notebook was bought a few years ago, and it could not be said to be a very high-performance computer. It was more than enough for Pi to type and write his stories, though. It was all right that it took a lot of time, anyway. Pi was practically on the computer from morning to night, and he could let the program slowly crawl in the background.
The only problem was that tomorrow, he was going out, and the results of the crawl could only be seen after he returned.
He unzipped the zip file, and on the desktop, a file that contained quite a lot of photos appeared.
The photos were from after [Collapse The World] had used the web crawler program. He had screenshotted the results he had found, and some were screenshots of parts of the paper he was writing.
[Collapse The World] had not been lying; he was really writing a psychological paper about cat abuse. In the screenshots, there were a lot of professional words that Zhang Zian could not understand.
In the last picture, it was a clear picture of the map of China. The map that was shaped like a cock was dotted with many cities, scattered like the stars in the sky, and many cities had been circled in red with different Arabic numbers written next to them.
The first city Zhang Zian found was Binhai City,
The red circle around Binhai City was thick and emphasized, and the numbers written next to it were even bigger than the numbers written for the other cities around it.
Not only Binhai City, but practically all the first, second, and third tier cities were also all circled in red. As for the fourth, fifth, and sixth tier cities, it was not that the small and medium cities did not have any cat abuse cases, but that they probably did not have their own local forums.
He was unaware that cat abuse cases had actually spread in a large scale towards the rest of the country, with Binhai City as the center.
The horrifying red color on the map shocked him until his whole forehead was full of cold sweat. The severity of the situation was beyond what he had imagined…

He suddenly noticed a strange part of the map. A certain big city was not circled in red…
[Collapse The World] seemed to also not understand what was going on with that and had drawn a question mark next to the city.
The big city was the cock's heart––the capital.

It was August 2000 and So-young was now 6 years old. She could already write Korean and speak it fluently thanks to her past life. Her parents were shocked by how fast her growth was. Because she was able to study well, they had no complaints with her learning guitar and taekwondo.

She was now 4 years ahead of her peers and was studying in 5th standard. Everything was boring as it only consisted with the basic concepts. She could deal with university level of science and this was primary school science. But history was interesting. This was the first time she was learning about Korean history. She was amazed by how the culture came about and how it affected the life of Koreans now. She was planning to take a test to skip another few grades. She wanted to pass out of high school early and finish college before she was 18 years. Then she could concentrate on her debut.

She was considering joining YG entertainment. It would be in its initial stages right now. It would be easier to become a part of it than SM Entertainment as that had a lot of competition. It would be too much of a hassle. Plus, there wouldn't be too many restrictions on her. A bonus would be that one of her favourite boy groups in kpop BIGBANG would be present there. She admires the group as the were not hesitant to share how they feel and break through the orthodox methods.

Her dance lessons were going well. She was now able to choreograph her steps on her own and she felt exhilarated when she was dancing. She was able to clear her mind while feeling the music within her. Her dance teacher was really impressed with her and wanted her to compete. She was considering it but when she thought about it for a while she declined. She did not want to be apart from her family so early. She wanted to be together with them at least until she debuted.

She had already learnt how to play the guitar so it was easy for her to learn keyboard. She had started trying to compose songs. The first few tries turned out sound like nursery rhymes. But, this did not let her down. She put in more effort into the music and tried to pour out her heart. The results were great! Though it would not make a hit song, she was getting somewhere. She realised that making music was not just about which key she should play in or what notes would sound good, it was about emotions. All her scars and wounds are exposed out in the open. It was a liberating experience.

It took her weeks of practice, but she came up with some decent pieces of music. She started writing the lyrics to her songs. Much to her delight, the songs turned out great. She just needed some software to help her record, edit and produce her songs. 

'Sigh, I don't think I will be able to convince mom and dad to get me the hardware for my music. My body is only 6 years old for heavens sake! Plus the market does not have good technology yet. It will take a few more years for the high-tech stuff to come out. '

So-Young had a lot to do. She had no choice but to record her music after signing with an agency. And she would have to convince her parents to let her become an idol. Though her parents were broad-minded, she knew they worried about her. It would take a few years of cajoling to convince them.

Bigbang... BTS.... Blackpink.... Astro... Exo... So many k-pop bands and idols... What will she do when she is thrown into the mix?

Cheng Mu was speechless.
He was quite emotional just now. He avoided Qin Ran whenever he spoke, but at this time, he was silent. 
This time, Lu Zhaoying completely ignored Cheng Mu. He walked directly to Qin Ran's table and placed his hands on the table. He did not speak. Instead, he stared at her as if it was the first time he saw her.

"All Qian Dui's technicians could not figure out my location and she's the one who did it in the end?" Cheng Mu had a hard time summarising the situation.
"Yes." Although he had personally experienced the situation and tried to recall what happened again, Hao Dui still found it hard to believe. He clenched his fist before saying, "It wasn't even half an hour."
Cheng Mu stopped talking.
The school doctor's office was very quiet.
In the past, Cheng Mu never paid much attention to Qin Ran. Now, he was dumbfounded and truly shocked.
It was impossible that Hao Dui was joking.
"But… how could she know?" Cheng Mu stiffly protested.
Qian Dui was famous in the industry because of the 712 cases they solved. His men were all elites and it was evident from the strength of his technical team.
Cheng Mu was not the only one. Hao Dui and Lu Zhaoying were also confused. In their eyes, Qin Ran was just an ordinary high school student. How was it possible that she knew this type of technology?
The entire situation was not described, but Cheng Mu could imagine the scene.
"Qin Ran, you're too amazing." Lu Zhaoying finally found his voice. He slammed the table and excitedly exclaimed. "When did you learn to program? You're more professional than the professional technicians!"
In the past, Cheng Mu was only polite to Qin Ran because he was fearful of Cheng Juan. As he was surrounded by extremely outstanding people from a young age, he did not care much about Qin Ran and secretly looked down on her.
However, after hearing Lu Zhaoying's words, Cheng Mu no longer ridiculed her.

Qin Ran continued with her paper at the table.
She was doing a chemistry paper.
As his attitude towards Qin Ran changed, everyone in the school doctor's office became very interested in her.
She was only a secondary three student. Why was she so good at programming?
They pretended to pass Qin Ran without noticing her but inadvertently saw the paper she was doing.
Unlike her expertise in software programming, her writing on the paper was not attractive. Her penmanship was like a primary school student's. Her words were far apart, not framed well, and had no corners.

Even Cheng Mu and Hao Dui, who were very curious about her, had some difficulties understanding her.

Cheng Juan was currently on a call with someone. Hearing Cheng Mu's voice, he turned around slightly. His movements were always lazily, and he casually glanced at Cheng Mu without care.
He did not explain much but slowly said. "Three days later, there will be a lunch with Qian Dui. If you have anything to say, you can bring it up then."
Although the truth was not what Cheng Mu thought it was, Qian Dui did contribute greatly to the rescue.
Lunch was a must.
However…
"Master Juan, has Qian Dui agreed to the meal?" Cheng Mu recalled that when he was in the car when he came back, Qian Dui did not seem to care at all. "Judging from how they look, it doesn't seem like they are people who would eat with others."
Cheng Juan, Cheng Mu, and several of them would definitely be restrained, and Qian Dui also did not talk much. How awkward would the atmosphere be?
Although this was what he thought, Cheng Mu did not dare to say much.
This time, he went to Yun Cheng with Hao Dui because of two reasons. The first was because of Cheng Juan and the second was because of Qian Dui. It was better to have this opportunity than none.

"She's really quite skilled, but will it be bad for her to come to this kind of business occasion?" Cheng Mu held his teacup and glanced at the door. He said in a low voice to Hao Dui, "What if Qian Dui is unhappy about it?"
Cheng Mu thought that a high school student like Qin Ran was not suitable to attend such an occasion.
He initially thought that Hao Dui would agree with him. Unexpectedly, Hao Dui only quietly drank his tea.
He seemed to be deep in thought.
Before Cheng Mu could say anything more, an attendant opened the door of their room and a few people walked in. 
When he looked up, he realized that it was Qian Dui. Cheng Mu's expression was obviously shocked.
He originally thought that Qian Dui would arrive later with Cheng Juan.
Generally, people who arrived at the lunch in advance did it either out of respect or because they wanted to chat with others.
Seeing Qian Dui's expressionless and quiet face, he did not seem like someone who would engage in a conversation.
"Qian Dui, what sort of tea would you like?" Cheng Mu stood up and spoke first.
"No, thank you," Qian Dui said concisely.
He sat on the seat next to the door. The two technicians behind him also saw down.
Everyone sat down in silence. Besides Qian Dui who asked the attendant to bring over another pot of tea, no one else had any intention of speaking.
The atmosphere suddenly turned chilly.
Cheng Mu tried to ask Qian Dui and his team a few questions, but Qian Dui and his team only shook or nodded their heads like ice cubes.
Cheng Mu felt extremely helpless. He thought that he was not a sociable person, but he did not expect that there would be someone who spoke less than him.
He lowered his head and sent a WeChat message to Hao Dui. [Qian Dui is too cold. I can't work with him at all.]
Just when the atmosphere was about to turn from awkward to freezing, the door was pushed open again.
The person who opened the door was Lu Zhaoying. He touched his flashy earrings and leaned back to talk to the person behind him while opening the door.
"Master Juan." Cheng Mu and Hao Dui both stood up.
Cheng Juan lowered his eyes and acknowledged them with a slightly nasal voice. He walked in with Qin Ran.
Cheng Mu was just about to sit down.
However, he was shocked to see that Qian Dui and the others had also stood up. One of those people who were as cold as ice wiped the remaining chairs.
Someone pulled the chairs out.
With a faint smile on his face, Qian Dui poured a cup of tea and placed it in front of Qin Ran enthusiastically. "You can drink this tea. I just asked the attendant to bring over a new pot."

Chatnoir knew whom it came from and wouldn't want to tell Ladybug of her identity yet after the last meeting. Ladybug hearing her beeping but looked at Chatnoir's ring as his isn't beeping, "Even your miraculous doesn't have a time limit, we gotta talk about this next time Chat" Ladybug leaving off and going to her master for assistance. Chatnoir going home and in his room, he was tired and said the words to his Miraculous, and the strange magic had come from a necklace that appeared on his neck. he looked at the necklace and went up to his bed and found a box under his pillow, it was purple and had a note in it;
         Chatnoir, sorry for the sudden magic occurrence but I thought you may need it in your situation but I'm going to need it back so meet me tonight at the usual.            from Violet 

Chatnoir had waited and came with the necklace on the rooftop, I looked at Chatnoir "hey chat" he was confused at first looked at Viola with her hero suit on and asked the question "So what is this then if it's not your miraculous. I told him "It is! just wait" she stuck her hand out and the set-piece had turned into mist and went into the suit of the owner. Chatnoir found the whole thing cool, "that's awesome but does it have an effect?" I nodded that it doesn't and said: "only the fact that it cuts my power". Chatnoir was happy "That makes sense, can I have that power often, " I told him "No" he kept on begging but my answer doesn't change and he let it off. 
"I only will help if I find you in deep danger and it won't be easy for me to assist you, I'm not offered to help you all the time, I'm your back up okay." 
Chatnoir understood it and had just wanted to watch the skies with Viola. Viola felt so relaxed and asked "So tell how was the experience and don't leave a single detail out" 
Chatnoir looked at her "Whaa! so I'm basically your experiment" Viola Nodded and Chatnoir took the time explaining everything. After two hours of explaining Chatnoir was exhausted and fell on the floor, he knew that he found out a new side of Viola and felt happy about it and scared. Viola left Chatnoir behind for a few seconds and came back with warm drinks and snacks, Viola lent it to Chatnoir-
"Here this is your reward for helping me, your reward will upgrade depending on your progress or achievements" it was a bunch of snacks for Chatnoir. Viola left right after giving him his snacks and he was buried within it. Chatnoir wanted to say something but couldn't and would just keep it to himself until the time, Chatnoir really enjoyed the snacks it was everything he liked. 
   I came back home and breathing heavily on the ground of the slow effects of the charm, it had also drained one-third of my energy after finished transformation although it had been a success. My kwami had worried for me but congratulated me on my success in progress. I had breath and rested myself for a couple of seconds and went into a secret room and started the transformation of the jewel of my necklace and it was a hard improvement and Chatnoir hadn't seen or received Viola's help and well as seen Scarlette at school often. Scarlette had been called in sick for a month, finally the time she came to school she didn't look alright even with her act. Nathaniel and Marc had looked at me with worry and had heard me with an earpiece but I told them I was okay and there are no problems with me and school. and I'd still kept up with helping the story project with the guys and ideas with the help of technology. I was happy with my progress with my secret project, I wanted to tell the guys but they don't know anything about technology much and this might well interfere with their story writing so I still kept it a secret with the guys. Throughout the next few months of going to school again, I had balanced out my time as much as I could and finally had a finished product. the next day I was different and looked all different, Everything I wore had been pre-made by myself. My clothes had secret compartments and my side bag had many science tools and my glasses were made of many software as well as a new improvement in my note-book, basically, I'm like the nerd on the block for the new invention behind the scenes. My friends were the first to discover of my hobby and test out my work, they liked it a lot, and had gotten addicted to it with the new software on the drawing tablet and new way of writing stories. I had thought about being an engineer in the future but I enjoyed dancing more than the serious work of my side-job. Although that's why my parents hated me because I didn't wish to walk on the life of technology, I had danced so much to become pro. The guys really wished to help me on these projects and I would say "If I need your help I'll ask you then" they weren't happy about my reply but always try their best to repay my assistance for them. To me they were also like best-friends and siblings all together in my life, they always would visit me in the club-house to see my inventions and have to test it and comment about what they would add to it. I would have guessed they secretly researched more on technology and have gotten used to my talk on smart tech talk. They would also tell me the new invention on the block, slowly I would have a lab set-up. soon after two months of work I had finally called for a meeting with Chatnoir and had to meet up with him soon. As I have gone out as Viola my invention had pieces of my miraculous everywhere like in my phone, in my hair, on my wrist and few more places, as long as I had one piece the other pieces would a-join secretly and transformed me. I had discovered my miraculous cannot be broken as long as I'm around but this experiment should only be a secret. I met up with Chatnoir and had given him a replication of the necklace from last time and told him to destroy it as much as he can. He wouldn't destroy it until I told him it was "full of madness and fear" a butterfly was around and Chatnoir had destroyed but the butterfly hadn't disappeared yet so Chatnoir used his special power and the necklace was gone and the butterfly had gone away. Chatnoir looked at me and apologized I told him "no, don't be" I squat down to the ashes and touched it and the ashes disappeared-

A girl who is anti-social receives a miraculous and was not interested at first until all later heard about these two superheroes and sooner or later she herself is a superhero Viola. Both her and her kwami know almost nothing about the powers the miraculous holds. So not only is that anonymous but she'll have to choose her own fate in the battle to come.

The teleportation devices that exists on first world countries can only teleport an atom or a molecule. And with the size of a coin it would be a major step in the history of humanity. But the reward to their team matters more frankly speaking. A Nobel Prize? Or perhaps oppurtunities at CERN or NASA? The sweet possibilities are close to their grasps.

Marcus lusciously stared on the air as he daydreamed some pleasant thoughts. He took a deep breath and concluded he can smell it, "the smell of success".

When he turned his head he saw the troubled face of Dex, despite the cold environment he was sweating as if it was hot. Dex sighed as he let out a worry.

"Dex, is something bothering you?" Marcus said.

"Hmm, I can't get it off my mind. The devices and fields in this school might affect the result of the experiment." Dex said as he rubbed his chin.

The thought flew over his head and he never thought of it. To be honest Dex was the most useful person on their team, he may be anxious at times but he could see through holes they often tend to overlook. 

And for his other friend, although not always reliable Marcus knew Raven was sharp on problems that require analytical thinking.

He gave his attention to the composed Raven beside him.
"And so what do say Rave, you're the IT expert?" He said.

"Ideally, if things go according to the calculations of my software. We have nothing to worry about." Raven said.

Marcus would have been fully relieved if not for the word 'ideally', Raven's response didn't really change his view on the project at hand. Worst case, the space-time field might go rampant and rip the the 4th dimensional continuum. And who knows what shinanigans might happen, at least anything but not blasting the entire school.

Raven's smartwatch started to flicker, an incoming message perhaps. Then a screen appeared which was projected by his watch. 

It was from Professor Zenner, he was the most well known professor in the campus but for the wrong reasons. His name even mentioned sends a shiver to their spines. 

Raven tapped a few holographic buttons and skimmed his eyes through the message.
"Well, it seems our presentation will be held in the afternoon. Most presentors before us took too much time." He said. 

Raven adjusted his glasses once more and stood up with a cheerful look as if there was nothing he's worried about. 

"Anyway, let's take a break, everyone." 
He said in a carefree manner.

Seeing the presentation on their computer wasn't done yet, a slight buldge of veins popped on Marcus' face, he then sneered.
"Raven better finish it up or I'm going to be upset."


Raven replied with a chuckle and placed his arms on his shoulders totally brushing off the heavy  pressure on their backs. 
"Come on it's almost noon break."

This time Marcus won't fall for such cheap trick, how many times did he do such act to avoid responsibility. Right now he was starting to get impatient and the thesis certainly needs their entire focus. No mistakes this time.

Dex with his usual displeased face silently lurched away from his chair and turned his mouth to Marcus.
 "You're the one to talk Marc!" He raised his voice.

He then calmed himself for a moment, then recollected his thoughts.
"Anyway there's no use arguing, let's just work with it."

Thirty minutes passed, they rushed through the edits then loosened up after they managed to complete it somehow.

Dex then sighed as he held a worn out face.
"Regardless It's done now let's go get some lunch." 

Seeing it was all done they sighed in relief.
"Well done, everyone." 

Marcus said as he tried to clear the air of their petty arguments.

However they can't leave without moving their teleportation devices first, it was very inconvenient to carry with their barehands due to its weight. Though Marcus knew he had nothing to worry as his friends with a bit help of technology can handle it with little effort.

They were good friends since junior high school and after they entered in college, they got seperated when the three of them took different courses. 

Dex is in electrical engineering while Raven is in software engineering. Previously he had a keen eye on software engineering due to the concept of digital matter. Before it gave him a head ache which course to take between mechanical and software, but eventually he chose mechanical engineering.

With digital matter, the world of software were able to touch reality. It was one of the most innovative inventions in the century. People were able to upload digital data such as 3-d models into the real world and touch them with their bare hands. 

It had a lot of applications but were still in its early stages and most users were software engineering students. The digital matter 3d models weren't as textured compared to its real substance it imitates. It also drains a lot of energy from the source when one tries to upload into the real world. 

It wasn't as durable as the material used by the Mechanical Engineering on their HoloMark suits. Despite its convenience it will still break if a certain level of pressure applied on it is high enough.

In the molecular world, digital matter is nothing more than nanobots working together and arranging itself to execute a certain task. Digital matter also act like a software despite existing on the real world, one can drag it, copy-paste it and many more.

To use digital matter one needs a certain hardware called the 3d Extender, it was a common device for software engineering students. Raven took one from his pocket, it was a techy esque glove, it was flexible yet metallic. He wore it on his right arm. 

Software Engineering Students have HoloMark suits called the Enhanced 3d Extender. The E3E are powerful and advanced compared to the ordinary Extender, since it can also upload complicated 3d models with more features, like animation.

With sudden whisk of his arm, a holographic screen popped up on his face, it was projected by the glove. He then clicked on each tabs showed on the screen. 

Assets->3d Shapes-> Sphere.obj

The glove projected a projection of an intangible sphere, he could drag it anywhere on the background, it didn't have any solid form yet. He dragged the sphere towards the teleportation device, and have the device go inside through it.

A tab appeared.
"Apply Shape on this Position?"

He then tapped 'yes'. The gloves released a blue mist, it drifted into the air and slowly the mist coalesced around the teleportation device. 

The mist formed into a solid, hollow, blue bubble which enshrouded the device completely. Its texture resembled that of a smooth, blue glass, it was semi-transparent and he can see the device through it.

With another repeated touch on the screen. Raven clicked copy and paste and summoned a second to the other device, now there were two of them.

The teleportation devices were now inside the hollow blue balls. Raven did another round of smooth touches, he then tapped the drag button on the screen. 
"Confirm to drag?"

After clicking yes, he now had the control of the bubbles, he swiped his arm upward, causing both of the devices to float in mid air. Like a cursor able to drag the icons wherever he wishes to put, but the Extender in this case enables him to do it in real life.

He was now able to lift the device they had without physical contact.  At first it seems like a telekinesis but it was digital matter at work.

"Now where do you want me to carry this." Raven said as he held his arms up high somewhat manipulating the floating blue spheres.

A hint of amusement were seen on Marcus' eyes, since digital matter seemed like it was powered by sorcery.

Afterwards he guided the two to the room were the presentation will be held. Right now however their tummy grumbled so they took a trip to the cafeteria. The presentation won't start before 1 PM after all and they still have time.

The cafeteria was inside a large dome, it looked like a stadium from the outside. Inside the cafeteria were stores lining up, it looked like a city market. The vast space provided infront of the stores had tables where the students usually gather. The stores were manned by robots and only few were actually managed by humans. In the cafeteria they had everything they need from coffee shops, school supplies, fast foods, teas, gadgets and a lots of things.


They chose the table in the corner as it was quiet and a comfortable spot.

"You know guys, have you ever appreciated our lives today? Hundreds of years ago people need to work in order to survive, nowadays you work because of prestige and preference." 
Marcus said.

A robot waiter handed them a tray of  bowls and plates with tight lid, since most of it were processed and not cooked in a conventional sense.

Marcus was going broke, but the idea of him starving weren't any of their worries . Since food in this era were very cheap, it was almost free. Starvation is not even a thing nowadays and the issue has been totally forgotten.

Due to the farming operations with the current technology, the world has become prosperous.

Dex seems unamused.
"Let's talk about something else, you've been talking about it since last week."

Raven chuckled as he spoke his mind.
"Even with our convenience I still find this life pretty bland, I'd rather be inside my room playing video games all day."

"Well if you want challenge, you can join the military. You can use a weaponized Holomark if you're in the army." 
Dex interrupted.

"I wonder why did the government suddenly banned the use of weapons on our Holomarks?" Marcus said as he opened the lid of his bowl.

Last year the government drained its budget on research and development on weapons for the Holomarks. Each students are given a Holomark, in which they should cultivate and develop it through research. By end of their own school year, the suits will be turned in to the school along with its data and the student's findings. The system of Holomarks exists to further develop the current technology especially in the military sector.

"A tension rose when our country and the country C fought over the claims of who owns an asteroid that floats nearby. But since it got burnt into the atmosphere, so not anymore." Dex said.

After the tension subsided, the Holomark Weapon Development Program was cancelled. Embedding weapons on the suits were now illegal, unless authorized. The weapons on the Holomarks weren't removed yet after the ban, rather they were forbidden to use it after the professors planted a special program. The school would know if one attempts to access the weapons.

Each engineering fields have their own unique Holomarks, mechanical engineering for example have a high grade steel compound armor that is worn to increase the defense and strength of the wearer. They had an ROTC subject that trained them on how to use it in battle in case they wanted to proceed in military. 

Marcus still had a vivid memory the first time he acquired his Holo-mark it was during third year as he recalled. When the suit is activated, an armor would form around ones body. It won't come into effect however if the wearer is not an enrollee of the school nor it is compatible with their ID number.

After minutes of chatting a girl approached their table. 
"Hello guys." 

After noticing her presence, they had a lively and a welcoming look. She was a biomedical engineering student, she had an ivory tint immaculate, long hair that draped over her shoulders. She had an innocent clear, bright, yellow iris as she held a pleasing smile.

"Oh Jeya, long time no see." 
Marcus said with a grin. 

Jeya was also one of their friends yet they rarely interact due to her hectic schedule and at a times she was slightly distant.
 "Come sit here." 
Raven offered the vacant seat besides him.

"I heard it will be your defense this afternoon right? So are you ready?" She said with slight ecstasy, excited on their behalf.

Dex shrugged with sigh, "well probably." 
He said with a defeated tone.

Afterwards the digital bell chimed, pointing out it was already 1PM, the time went by quite fast before they even knew it. 

Raven sighed feeling unsatisfied as he barely talked to Jeya. 

However Marcus held a serious look, because one thing is for sure, the presentation is right upon them.

In the year 2200, smartwatches, holographic screens, flying cars and Holo-Mark were the common technology of the era. Engineering Philippines University was one of the national schools that developed various powersuits called the HoloMark.

It was a normal day for the school of EPU until a faulty thesis presentation accidentally teleported the entire school into a paradise-like fantasy land.

Marcus embarks on a journey throughout the mysterious region called the lower district. A certain event has befallen upon him and he can no longer use his Holomark, rendering him useless. He ventured out as an ordinary human across the lands and on his way he uncovers the torment and the painful cries of this world. 

What seems to be a paradise turned out to be a very grim world. Where the women are hunted as sex slaves, the people are sacrificed to the Gods, abused by an authoritarian church, towns devastated by a greedy rebels and an Empire powerful enough that nothing can stand in its path.

After the retrieval of his Holomark, he swore with all of his power to erase the evil that stood within these lands.

Through out the journey the looming threats of the Empire, the Church of Zexus and the Gods emerges.

Can their advanced technology stand up against the magic abilities of this world?

And thus begins the story of the school of EPU getting thrusted into the medieval fantasy land.

Debbie was in high spirits that day. Scarlet didn't know why her editor was so chirpy but she smiled too.
"Oh! I see that you're finally out of the cast. How does it feel?"
The young writer laughed. "Not much different from when I'm still in a cast... I was told that I'd still need a few weeks to get used to moving around again and about a month before I can try to walk without the splint and crutches. There are physiotherapy classes that I will be attending to help with the recovery process but it feels great not having to bear the itch and not be able to scratch it."
The editor smiled and presented the girl with an envelope.
"This is...?"
Debbie grinned. "Open it."
Scarlet grabbed a letter opener and neatly ripped it open. There was a letter addressed to Scarlet and the girl looked at her teacher.
"This...?!"
Debbie couldn't keep the wide smile away from her face. "I turned it in to a friend who is a literary agent and it was well-received. Your very first writing contract, darling. Congratulations."
Scarlet didn't know how to react and cried. Sixteen is a Gang might not be her first work but in terms of growth, it marked a significant milestone for the girl who had gained not only a precious family but a very close group of friends who didn't shun her. The fact that the publishing agent who accepted the manuscript mentioned how touching the feelings of the main character moved them made Scarlet feel as if it wasn't written in vain.
The young writer had poured her feelings and the trials they'd overcome together into this make-belief world of adventure and evil adults. While the manuscript was unpolished in the eyes of the publishing agent, they were keen to sign her up for publication because of that unique perspective and Scarlet's ability to move people with her story.
"I didn't tell them your age. This meeting might have to wait until you tell the good news to Wilmer and Orita. People normally don't get their writing contracts with their second attempt. You're very talented, Scarlet. I'm hoping to see more of your future works, there's nothing much I can teach you at this moment."
Scarlet hugged Debbie and thanked her from the bottom of her heart. Being offered a writing contract meant a lot for Scarlet. It meant that she was acknowledged and more importantly, this was something she didn't accomplish using the influence of the Wilde Family's name. Could this be the way she could repay Mrs Wilde's kindness of accepting her into their family?
The good news couldn't remain a secret forever. When Alex and Jasper returned home that day, Scarlet told them the good news. One good news multiplied into two and when Mr Wilde returned home, he called for a celebration. It turned out that there was not just one simple piece of good news. They had two unexpected but dearly missed guests joining them for dinner and another two guests whom Scarlet was happy to receive.
"Mother!" the girls screamed with joy as Jenna brought the luggage up. Mrs Wilde bent down to hug her girls with Jasper awkwardly standing by Mr Wilde's side.
"Mrs Wilde," he greeted politely and offered to help Jenna.
Claire bowed with Tina and Sue behind her. The lady butler was impressed by Claire's management of the household. The head maid did a great job despite the lack of manpower. Also, due to the short notice, Jenna was expecting some difficulty in being able to accommodate such a large group. Claire didn't seem to struggle with the new guests. The dining table was quickly modified with the table extended to fit the extra people for dinner. The maids under Claire's care were also quick to whip up extra dishes and make enough food for everyone, not neglecting to add a touch of classiness to them befitting of the Wilde Family's prestige.
Alex announced that she won an art competition that she was secretly participating in and was going to have her work displayed at an exhibit. Mrs Wilde and Jenna revealed that they would be moving over to live in Singapore for a more permanent period of time from now on so that they could spend more time as a family. Jasper's parents would also visit from time to time when Mr and Mrs Wilde had to fly for business trips.
Wilmer was all smiles as well. He had received news from Benjamin earlier that afternoon that the evidence the children collected was enough to permanently ruin Cody and Larissa. The verdict will be out next week. Danny and Elfie were here to deliver news about their findings of Anastasia.
Danny smiled and congratulated the Wilde's. "I have a favour to ask."
Immediately, the joy and laughter melted into silence. The children looked at their teacher oddly. Jasper knew about Danny and Wilmer's special relationship but Scarlet and Alex were slower to catch on. Whatever favour Danny was asking for didn't feel like something a teacher and parent could easily talk about.
"I would be taking a short leave of absence from the school due to personal reasons and in that period of time, I would like to entrust my son, Elfie, in the care of your family."
Wilmer's warm expression grew cold at once. The jokes and laughter erased from his eyes. "It's about that, isn't it?"
Danny nodded. Orita didn't look pleased but her eyes softened when she saw Elfie tense up.
"You're going to be personally acting on it?" the CEO asked and Danny nodded again, not daring to meet his friend's eyes.
Wilmer's lips thinned into a line, his eyes hard. "Orita and I don't mind taking care of Elfie for you. However, I won't accept it if you don't intend to come back for him."
Elfie looked fragile at that moment and it was Alex who held the hacker's hands to comfort him. Scarlet didn't know what was going on either but she gave Elfie a small smile trying to reassure him that everything would be alright. The adults could be relied on and even if things didn't work out, Elfie still had them and a group of very reliable friends.
Danny bit the insides of his cheeks. "I'm not abandoning him, Wilmer. I didn't adopt Elfie with the intention of abandoning him. He is my son."
Orita decided that the tension was scaring the children a little too much and quickly diffused the tension by asking Jenna to bring out the alcohol to the study so the men could talk over it. At the same time, she expertly diverted the subject away from the serious discussion by asking the children how they met Elfie.
Everyone had good news to share and interesting stories to tell about their time spent together at school. When Scarlet told everyone that Debbie sent her manuscript to an agent who found a publishing house interested in contracting her book, Orita squealed like an excited schoolgirl and immediately placed the first order of five copies that she wanted Scarlet to sign.
"You need to start practising your signatures now," Alex joked and Scarlet blushed.
Elfie smiled. "What is the story about?"
The young writer launched into details about the inspiration she took and the hacker had a good laugh over some of the scenes Scarletdescribed. Scarlet's vivid imagination and good sense of humour had successfully woven the personalities of everyone in the E.C. Class into her book.
"I want to read that book, I really do. It sounds very interesting that you managed to capture everyone so accurately!" he praised.
Scarlet squirmed in her chair, embarrassed by the praises.
"That's it!" Alex declared. "I'm going to draw your first book into a comic!"
Jasper raised a brow. "Do you know how to draw digitally? I thought you were still trying to understand how paintbrushes work."
Orita laughed. "Oh, Jasper dear... there's no rush. Alex can slowly pick that up. We can employ some art teacher if she wants to speed up that process. Also, Wilmer might be planning on an internship rotation for the three of you."
That news got their attention and the heiress smiled. "Don't tell Daddy that I said this. However, Wilmer has been working hard to negotiate for the departments that would interest you most to accept you and teach you the trade. Alex will have plenty of opportunity in the future to get acquainted with digital brushes. Scarlet will have a lot of chances to learn different writing styles and the practicality of it. Jasper can discover the secrets to how money flows within an organisation."
All three children had their eyes lit up. Elfie watched them with envy. He didn't know what an internship was but it sounded fun. "Mrs Wilde, can I join them for the internship too if I'm going to be in the care of the Wilde Family for a while. I think my programming skills might come in handy. I'd also love to have a chance to study a network and create a network system set up on a large scale."
Orita looked at Jenna who bowed at the hacker. "We will do our best to make arrangements. I'm sure many of our software developers and engineers would be thrilled to meet the mastermind behind the most recent underground raids in person. We will inform Wilmer about your wishes."
Elfie was flattered. Not many people knew about his official job or talked about it apart from Danny. He knew that Danny and Wilmer were close friends but Wilmer had never once spoken about Elfie's accomplishments before.
"Underground raid?" Alex asked and Orita smiled.
"That's a secret between your daddy, mommy and Danny. Elfie is a very talented programmer and he sometimes helps adults who need his skills which is why he is often not in school. Elfie travels a lot to help others so he hardly has any time to make friends."
Alex put a finger to her lip to indicate that she understood this should not be so easily revealed to others outside of the family. Orita smiled at her daughter's simple-mindedness and gave the other two children a sideways glance. Jasper nodded slightly to indicate that he understood because his eyes were unreadable behind his hair. Scarlet met the heiress' look with her own full of acceptance but also curiosity.
Claire knew that look. There was no mistaking it. Her young mistress would definitely find a chance to catch Elfie and interrogate him for information. Who knows, this might be the content Scarlet needed for her new book.

"Airbags?" Mai Dong and Tang Yue nearly answered at the same time.
In the early Mars exploration missions, the engineers used a rather simple and crude solution to deal with the final stage of landing—the last tens of meters—by using airbags.
By wrapping the probe in an airbag, they allowed it to crash straight into the Martian surface and decrease its altitude and energy by repeated bounces. In essence, it was no different from the safety airbags in a car. It was ancient and simple, but rather reliable. After the probe was detached from its parachute, it would rapidly pump up an airbag, allowing itself to be wrapped in a protective ball.
Before a high-end Martian rover like Curiosity was put into use, many pioneers that headed to Mars had relied on such simple spherical airbags to protect themselves.
"Where do we get the airbag from?" Tang Yue asked.
The United Space Station didn't have parachutes or airbags. With the Mars landing projects developing deep into the middle of the 21st century, primitive and highly limited landing methods such as decelerating airbags had long been eliminated. An airbag could only protect tiny and light landers. With landing missions carrying tens of tonnes, they required parachutes and reverse-thrust rockets.
"That's something we should thank the Russian engineers for…" Tomcat said leisurely. "It turns out that they enjoy using inflatable cabins in their spacecraft and space stations."

"Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Goddard, Oberth, Korolev, Wernher von Braun, as well as NASA, CNSA, RSA, ESA, please receive a kowtow from me!" Tang Yue stood in the middle of the Hab looking all reverent as he gave a deep bow at the tablet on the table. "If you can hear me in heaven, please bless this landing mission with success. Your children and grandchildren are relying on you all."
Tomcat glanced at the tablet with the first name being Konstantin Tsiolkovsky.
"By writing it that way, the elders won't be able to read it in heaven," Tomcat said with a curled tongue. "You should write КонстантинЦиолковский."
"Go away. Mind your own business." Tang Yue rolled his eyes. "We already agreed that we are leaving the science to you, and the metaphysics to me."
"Do you know how to do divination?" Tomcat held up its head. "Try doing one."
"I've done it."
"How was it?"
"Fire on top, water below. The Wei Chi hexagram," Tang Yue replied.
"What does that mean?" Tomcat shot him a glance.
Tang Yue was quite a talent in metaphysics. Not only did he know incantations, but he was also skilled at divination. If he hadn't come to Mars, he might have been a charlatan going about scamming others. Tomcat had no idea how Tang Yue had such knowledge. According to Tang Yue, an old neighbor had taught him when he was young. The old man was skilled and said to have been consulted by members of high society for geomancy-related matters. He enjoyed eating cuttlefish, so people called him Immortal Cuttlefish. Tang Yue had often visited him with grilled squid.
Every time Tang Yue relegated such matters to the realm of absurdity, of superstition, Tang Yue would use the Russians as an example.
The Russians had gotten Russian Orthodox Church priests to bless the rockets. 
"Wei Chi, or Before Completion is a hexagram that says to handle external forces properly, we must above all arrive at the correct standpoint ourselves. In other words, it's nothing but a dangerous booby trap if not handled well."
"Booby?" Tomcat was taken aback. "I'm being serious with you. What the hell are you thinking?"
"What the hell are you thinking? I'm talking about a booby trap. Booby! Booby! Do you know what that is?"
"I obviously know what that is."
"You silly cat," Tang Yue said. "Come, repeat after me! Booby—Trap—! Booby—! Get it?"
Tomcat suddenly shut up as its expression turned solemn before pointing to the table.
Tang Yue turned his head over.
Mai Dong had a cold expression. Perv!

"The divination says that it will be dangerous." Tang Yue sighed. "The external forces are plenty and difficult to overcome."
"That's quite an accurate divination. Isn't that exactly what we are facing? We are pushed into a corner with despair everywhere." Tomcat placed its chin on the table as the workstation's monitor flickered. It blue-screened once again as the case fans suddenly went silent. Tomcat kicked the table leg. "Damn it, there's a segmentation fault again.
"It's an ominous portent that says success won't be obtained. I hope no problems happen during the landing.
"Metaphysics aren't useful on Mars. Our ancestors tweaked such things for Earth. After all, the gods there aren't the same gods here." Tomcat restarted the workstation and switched the monitor off and on. "Let's depend on science. Mathematics and physics are universal… Miss Mai Dong, are you ready?"
"OK, Mr. Cat," Mai Dong replied. "I've given you full authority."
"Good job." Tomcat connected to the United Space Station's computer, gaining full control over its systems. This was requested by Tomcat as it made Mai Dong follow the steps to expose the low-level code of the control system.
Thus, Tomcat could freely change the space station's routines. If it so wished, it could even circumvent the astronaut's commands and directly switch off the life support system. If it really did so, all living beings in the space station would cease living in five minutes.
"Miss Mai Dong, I've already connected to the United Space Station," Tomcat alerted her. "From this moment forth, you shouldn't randomly change the computer's operational mode."
"Got it."
This was a necessary procedure. To allow Orion II to enter the atmosphere, Tomcat needed to completely change Orion's flight program. This was equivalent to re-writing the low-level software for the spacecraft. During the design stage of Orion II, the engineers had never imagined letting it enter the atmosphere; therefore, the computer system lacked the necessary software to do so. Thankfully, there was sufficient redundancy in the hardware. Orion's structure and engines allowed for Tomcat to write a new program.
To Tomcat, machine language was its mother tongue.
It needed to design a safe descent trajectory. In the past, such work was done by an entire group formed by many specialized teams. Due to the massive amount of work, the entire EDL process could be split into three segments—Entry, Descent, and Landing. Each segment was a topic worth researching. The problems involved were multifarious and complicated. It involved every piece of hardware on the spacecraft.
In addition to the software was the equally troublesome GNC system—Guidance, Navigation, and Control. These were the missions of the computer and sensors, and this also produced huge problems and theses.
The EDL system was responsible for a safe landing, while the GNC system was responsible for navigation. By working together, they would allow for a safe landing for Mai Dong.
In the past, this was probably a project collectively done by more than ten universities and research institutes, ranging from hardware to software. However, all of this was now placed on the shoulders of Tomcat alone.
After all, Tomcat was the Universe's most impressive crosstalk master and programmer. Among crosstalkers, it was the best at programming, and in programming, it was the best at crosstalking.
It could drone on and on while typing out control code that allowed for a four-hundred-ton spacecraft to land on Mars.


Payload specialist, Tang Yue, who is a mechanical and electrical engineer by training, is left stranded on Mars when he receives news from his AI robot assistant, Tomcat, that Earth has exploded. He believes himself to be the last human in the Universe.
