A month passed by and Eden was playing hide-and-seek with the children inside the abandoned building 'Safe Haven' and the kids were already hiding somewhere while she 'seeks' for them.

When the two little kids had woken up and saw the holiday decorations put up a month before, they were delighted and excitably joyful.

Eden was happy to see them happy, even the two dogs seem to feel the happiness too despite that they don't understand the humans much with their joy in holidays or celebrations as such.

Right now, Michael and Annie are playing with their adult foster-parent as they hid quietly with smiles on their faces and trying to hold back their giggles so that Eden wouldn't find them.

They didn't know that Eden had already found them but she pretended that she didn't, playing and acting as if trying to sneak attack the children from behind and catch them off-guard.

But before Eden was about to 'catch' the kids from their hiding places as she was about to, sudden loud gunshots were echoing from outside, somewhere in the city but not near to Safe Haven.

Eden stood straight at the sounds with her whole body tensing in alert and vigilance, and instantly the kids ran out from their hiding places and hugged tight on her legs, shivering with fear upon hearing them.

The mother dog growled as if the danger's near and the puppy whined under her.

There were more echoes of gunshots again and it took about a few minutes until they stopped.

Eden just listened to them attentively while comforting the frightened children clutching at her legs. When the gunshot sounds had stopped, she knelt and hugged them tightly to comfort them more and reassure them that the dangers have passed, even though it looked like from her face that she believed that it didn't yet.

Eden slowly ushered the kids to their bedroom and told them to relax and take a nap, though little Michael and Annie didn't want to as they're nervous about what they had heard.

But Eden reassured them again and they went to nap, and Luna the adult mother dog nudged her puppy Archer into the room so that they'll stay there.

Once they're all in, Eden closed the door but didn't lock it as she went to stand by the window, gazing out at Z-city to the direction where she had heard the gunshots.

On her face, she looked grim and thoughtful before she went to pull a chair to sit beside the closed door of the bedroom as if standing guard and sat down on it, as she also brought along her journal to write in it.

She looked again through the window outside for a silent moment before she opened the journal and started writing.

JOURNAL ENTRY: DAY UNKNOWN, 12TH MONTH DECEMBER, YEAR 2XXX

Hey, it's me. Eden again.

A month has passed by and the two kids, little Michael and Annie were happy and excited when they had seen the holiday decorations put up from last month.

I let them be as they are children when during the few days when they saw the decorations they were so joyful that it's like they are about to get early presents from me for the upcoming holidays.

They managed to tone it down when they understood that in the last month of this year, we will celebrate the holidays together as a new family, including the dogs.

It's now the month of the holidays the kids were excitedly expecting for but that was when one day, we heard loud gunshots in Z-city, and those sound like they're near Safe Haven but they're not.

The kids were frightened and Luna was tensed when they heard them, but I was calm upon hearing them.

You know why?

Because I have noticed and heard those gunshots for a while now, almost about a week ago, but the kids weren't aware of it because they were heavily asleep at those times. Only the two dogs and I know about them.

Those times before when I heard them, I was always a light sleeper so I had woken up instantly beside the sleeping kids in one of the nights at a late time when the loud sounds of the gunshots started.

At first, I wanted to go out there and check it out, but I did promise to myself and for the kids that I would stay in Safe Haven during the last month in the middle of winter seasons this year.

But then the next time when those gunshots continued, and then this time with the kids now hearing them, I knew that I'll have to change it and brave it out and go out there to find out what's going on and what I might find there in the direction where it came from.

And I know deep down, that the kids will be disappointed when they find out I'm leaving, but I'll comfort and reassure them that I'll return and come back quickly once I find out.

I know that it might be dangerous to find out whatever it is, but I didn't want to take a risk that whatever or whoever made those gunshots, they would sooner come near to Safe Haven.

So then, I'll start making plans and preparations to do a short run to observe and find out what happened.

It's good and fortunate for me that it's snowy cold weather in Z-city.

With this kind of heavy snowfall and cold winter weather, it would be able to camouflage me in the surroundings when I go check out and figure out what's going on.

Hopefully, whatever I'll find, it won't be some hostile survivors that might be out there and it turns out that they were crazy enough to venture through the cold snowy weather because of the advantage that it slows zombies down.

Last year, when I was alone and I didn't have the kids and dogs, there weren't any survivors I had discovered or encountered during the winter seasons.

But somehow it seems that this year, there might be out there.

I sure hope that when I might encounter those people…they will not be living hostiles.

I have enough problems worrying than the zombies that are frozen or hibernating at this time of year.

And also, I don't like it that this might ruin the happy mood of the winter holidays.

The children and I needed this to keep us warm and happy through these harrowing grim times from the zombie apocalypse.

I will not let something like this ruin it--and I mean, ever.

Not in my watch, no way.

Anyway, that's all there is to it.

I'll be preparing myself and getting ready to confront whatever dangers are out there in Z-city.

And I sure hope that I won't regret doing it once I found out about it.

I wonder what I might expect or find out there, but I'll stop here and then start on readying my stuff and things I needed when I get out there.

Also, here's hoping that I might not run into any dangers that might get me killed.

That's the last thing I really don't want for the holidays this year.

Eden stopped writing and hides away her journal in her pack before she goes to make preparations and get ready to venture out into the city to check out and find out in the direction where she had heard those gunshots.

But before she does that, she checked on the kids first and saw that they're still sleeping and was satisfied to see that the dogs were awake to guard over them, even with the little puppy that looked like it wanted to copy its mother on being an adult.

Eden soothed her dogs to stay there still in the room before she closed the door again and then went off to prepare her weapons and her dark winter clothing on the day that she goes out.

Once she had the folded clothes and the silenced rifle and machete blade ready for her to use, Eden turned to look out through the windows as if gazing at something in the horizon with a distant look in her face.

Eden looked like she's wondering what she might find out there and thought of what she would expect to find.

What Eden might not expect once she goes out there, it is that she will find more discoveries and new encounters soon.

And unbeknownst to her, it might be another good thing to her, like she did when she had found the dogs and the kids.

I'm going through some grammar fixes at the moment since I'm in the final act. Especially on dialect now that I have an updated tool to pick these up for me. Well, most of them anyway. I estimated about ten chapters are left to the end.

Oh, man. That moment has arrived. The next three chapters will contain the bomb drop and lots of drama. When I first wrote to the prompt, I hadn't really thought about continuing the story at that time.  Then afterwards, had considered it to be a novella and was doing whatever I could to avoid that moment. Now that it's a book and an ensemble drama. It's one of those events that I can't avoid.   
All I can say is get the tissues ready. Well, I'm saying to that to me, since I'm a weirdo for crying for my characters when they undergo tragic moments.

I'm back from touring around Kansai region.  I'm happy to see  that my research wasn't far off the mark. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to visit Hiroshima first-hand.  I went to the Kyoto and Osaka city libraries and was able to read some wartime references and accounts.  Some broke my heart. There was a story about this young man who was a 7-year-old boy at the time when the bomb dropped. He and his older brother (by three years) had lost their family in one hit. They were staying with their aunt at the time, whilst their baby sister and parents went to the main town.  3 km was the distance that separated their family for life.  There were more stories like this in the library. Collected in anthology volumes.  I took some notes. 
What does this mean for the book? 
I'm back and so are the chapters.  I've planned out 5 x new chapters to date, and there're loads more to come before the final volume is ended.   
The new release chapters will kick off this coming Friday (07.02), and chapter releases scheduled for every Friday thereafter.  
"Only one chapter release weekly?!  Are you shitting me?" You may say (or not).  Fufufu.  Isn't there something called TGIF here?  That's all I'll say on the matter.

Q&A Time: Why the dual perspectives? And chop and changed about?
I dunno. Thought it would be a good idea at the time. Never envisioned this story to be more than 60K worth of words. At that point, it would've been fine. It's now on its way to doubling that amount. This makes the volumes a bit messy. Since I'm writing to this format, too late to change now. I think it also helps with character design immersion. Still, it's hard writing from two setting perspectives, so not to break the continuity of the whole story line. If it doesn't work, I'll revise at the end of the story. When I dust it off and walk away.

Alright, boy-ohs and girlies, I've tried my best, I really have, but writing is way harder than I could have ever imagined. I'm at 216 chapter, 218 if you count *******, and about 90-95% of the story has been written without much consideration for outlining. A while ago, I started a wiki for the novel to try to keep track of everything and only now am I starting to understand the magnitude of the mistakes I've made writing up to this point.

Anyway, the announcement this time is to let you know that my writing pace hasn't simply slowed. I'm just taking the majority of my time chronicling everything that's happened and will happen and thinking up solutions to the problems that I've detected in the logic of the story; or plotholes. I'll probably take a while and until I'm confident in where the story will head, I'll continue putting out a depressingly low number of chapters every week.

It feels wrong to not say anything and even worse keeping my ******* collecting despite the obvious downgrade to my writing speed. So, despite my obvious bias in wanting to keep Patreons, I'd caution everyone supporting me to only continue doing so if you're fine with the current situation. Webnovel, Royalroad and my ******* all keep publishing dates on the chapters I release, so you can keep track of my writing speed by looking there; until you feel it's worth it, reconsider wasting your time or money during these unstable times. I probably should have made this announcement sooner, considering the downgrade to my writing speed has been around for a month's worth of time, so I apologize.

I'll be putting out chapters when I can, but the majority of my focus right now is revisiting already published chapters, touching them up and documenting whatever I can in the novel's wiki page. Anyone wondering where I'm at can check the wiki page and even contribute if they're bored enough. That is all for now~

UPDATE (December 29th, 2019)
Alright, I'm about to get really real and admit to being a really shitty author these last three to four months. Truth be told, I really did want to take time to update the wiki and figure out how to handle what I thought were this novel's biggest failings in plot holes. However, to do that and find details that might have only been mentioned in passing, I had to eventually turn to rereading entire chapters.

Guys... I'm being as sincere as I possibly can right now. I have no fucking clue how I've developed a following after rereading the first couple chapters. I understand that authors can grow a lot after a year, but it hasn't even been that long and I believe the first hundred chapters are Trash with a capital T. It's borderline unreadable (upon proofreading this tirade, this might be a mild exaggeration, but it is true to my thoughts nonetheless) and the fact that I have nearly 4,000 followers after combining the collections on Webnovel with those following on RoyalRoad is incomprehensible to me. There are still even 19 people supporting me on ******* when I haven't released squat in nearly two months!

I've tried to ignore this. I've tried to work on other books. Hell I've even messed around with fanfiction, hoping to one day wake up and see everyone gone. Like the book had never existed. But like I said, there are still 4,000 people waiting for releases. More joining by the day and people still supporting the novel with spirits stones. Even 19 who value two chapters being at least a dollar.

Every time I think I'm ready to move on, ready to completely shut down the novel to start a new one, I think about those people and realize, "I'm a fucking bitch. Just finish the fucking novel, idiot." The passing of time has only made the feeling worse, so I guess this is a message consigning myself to completing this book, by any means necessary. I won't be able to focus on another story otherwise, so this update is more for me than for my audience.

That being said, the reason I felt inclined to give up on the novel in the first place was because of how terrible I found my writing from a nearly a year ago. So, I want to stress that I'm not going chuck a bunch of shit together to finish the story. Rather, I'm going to go back and rewrite things as I continue to catalogue things on the wiki.

Last couple things I want to quickly mention:

- I haven't really used any of the money I've made on ******* so I want to commission a legit book cover. Ditch that shit I made with my lacking Photoshop Skills...

-More on the money thing, after I finish rewriting the novel — it'll mostly be editing details that make the book seem less like it was written by an amateur, so the story progression won't at all change — I plan on also hiring people to format Book 1 and eventually Book 2 into legit e-reader and paperback formats. I know, I know...

"Greedy author, have you no shame?" 

Honestly, I want to follow pirate aba's style of keeping everything free, and I will. I'm not going to enter a contract with Webnovel or paywall chapters through kindle. However, for the people who for whatever reason want to have a kindle or physical copy of this (current dumpster fire of a) novel, I want it to at least be possible. There's also the benefit of gaining new readers through Amazon this way which is always a plus. 

Like the G.O.A.T. pirate aba — check out her (I think it's a her) book The Wandering Inn — I'll keep all the chapters on Webnovel and Royalroad free. Though the ******* thing will still be in effect at least until I finish the series or whatever.

-Since I'm rewriting the novel for the most part, I'll make more announcements as I continue updating the novel; meaning adding on to the story (Chapter 219, 220, etc...)

Unless it becomes too annoying and people request against it, I'll be adding "Revised" to Chapters that have been, well... revised.

Enough of formal talk, so guys, I have been revisiting the previous chapters, right from the start, and I found myself cringing to a few places.
Some of you are aware, but anyways, I am re-drafting from the start, especially volume 1 and 2, because I think when I reached volume 3, my writing improved and I happen to learn a lot during the volume 3 journey.
It made me a better writer, and I'm proud of myself for putting in the hard work and learning from every chapter.
That is why I want to re-edit the old chapters to give a more polished look. The process is going on for now.

Why?

My dream is to release 'Get Back to You' as a book series.
Well, first, I'm planning to release them as Ebooks and later find a reliable publisher to publish the hardcopies.
I have some ideas about the book cover designs. I hope you guys can buy a copy when it gets released.
That's the future that I am working on side by side.
Now, coming onto the important part,
I AM GOING ON A BREAK THIS MONTH AND WILL RETURN ON NEW YEAR.
One of the main reasons to take a break is to rest my hands. I write for hours, and the editing consumes a lot of time too. Right now, my hands got succumbed to the pain.
Lifting a saucepan is difficult for me now; that's how much I lost power in my hands.
I am also taking this break to storyboard the rest of 'Get Back to You.'
Break for me means- I have a lot of behind the scenes work to do for my novel.
If you guys noticed, I also have another novel that is on pause currently.
That is another beautiful story that I plan on continuing next year.
Also, I want to read books.
