"My mother, our house is full of books about Greek literature. You can find all the rare books about Greek literature in our house" Natalia Lu said in calm tone, she gave Lu Chao a smile and took the book from his hand, "Then you might have already read it" Lu Chao said pointing towards the book, Natalia Lu looked at the book and smiled lightly.

"Even though there are many books of Greek literature I read none of them, I'm more interested with civilisation and olden mechanisms which defined our ancestors' way of living" Natalia Lu said it and shrugged with a small smile etched on her face. This time Lu Chao was shocked because his father liked it very much and invested his spare time in reading and understanding it. 

Natalia Lu was about to leave Lu Chao behind and walk back to the place others stayed back, "Who is your mother and family" Lu Chao asked with conflicted expression on his face. She smiled and did not reply which made Lu Chao even more troubled, before Lu Chao could fire another question Natalia Lu left the series of shelves and made her way back to the group and Lu Chao followed her behind.

"From when did you start reading Greek literature girl" Mark Florence asked in utter shock and surprise. Liam nodded as well indicating he has the same question, "It was his choice" Natalia Lu said pointing towards Lu Chao who nodded. "That is good then, shall we get settled then" Nova Park asked in a questioning tone. 

Natalia Lu noticed all of them holding some or the other books to read as well, she nodded and then all of them settled down in one of the tables to the corner. All of them read in peace for one hour suddenly Li Chang's mobile buzzed in vibration. He looked at the screen and said, "It is Su Chen it's time for the game we need to change" he said and glanced at Natalia Lu.

"Nova, Natalia you two can wear mine and Shuan's as we have spare" Li Mei said she got and others followed her suit as well, Natalia and Nova nodded to it. All them walked out of the library and went straight to the changing room. Others were waiting for them in front of the changing room, "We have made a bet on you Natalia, you better not let us down" Sam McLaggen said with a pleading expression.

Natalia Lu looked at him and smirked, "I never asked you to bet on me, did I ever" she asked in a calm but slightly colder tone, Sam McLaggen looked at Nova Park for help. "You can now only pray to the god Sammy" Nova Park said and patted his shoulder in a consoling manner. "You guys go change and then we will decide the team" Lu Kang said in a casual tone.

Others nodded and entered the changing room, after 5 minutes all were already assembled in the basketball court. Other students did not change as Lu Kang already announced it that there is going to be a match between the exchange students and the hosts. The court was full of spectators from both the sides and all of them were brimming with excitement.

Alan Beth and De Jia entered the court dressed in their usual clothes and each one was holding a mike in their hand. "Hello all of you we are now going to witness a basketball match were our dear exchange students will be playing against our fellow schoolmates" De Jia said in an excited tone. The audience gave a big round of applause for it.

De Xi who is a internationally recognized lady not just in single field but in enumerated fields. She is a dream woman for all the men not only inside the nation but also outside the nation as well.

Corban made his way directly to the local library, it only took ten minutes of walking. The library was a rather large building, it could fit more than twenty of Corban's house, though in comparison Corban is poor and his house is small. 

"Now then, let's get that knawwledge," Corban mumbled underneath his breath before strolling into the library slowly. "I haven't been here since mum tried to get me to read more often, ahhhh, how time passes." Corban walked through the rows of books calmly reminiscing about the past.

Finding the section he was looking for, 'Greek Gods', he took several books. One about the basics of Asclepius,  another for the basic Greek pantheon, a few other books he picked because he had thought they sounded interesting.

He took a small look around the medicinal section, but shrugged off reading a few of them for later. He finally made it to a nearby table, placing down his books he took a seat and picked up the first book, 'Asclepius's ascension to God hood', probably could have picked up a different book.

It read a little something like, "Asclepius, son of Apollo and the mortal Koronis of Thessaly. Koronis abandoned Asclepius, and as such was raised by his father in the way of medicine and herbs. He was also tutored by the wise centaur, Cheiron." 

"That's neat, but why would he give me his blessing, is it because my blessing was already healing related, or did it become that way when he blessed me?" Corban asked in confusion, only to not be answered, "So many questions so little time."

As he continued reading the book he read up on how he was given Medusa blood which he used to revive the dead, for which he was punished with death by lightning bolt.

This happened because Zeus was scared that Asclepius would change the eternal division between gods and mortals, and heard that he could even revive the dead. Apollo was punished for protesting against the treatment of his son, but he was punished by Zeus for impiety and forced to serve the King of Thessaly for one year.

With knowledge now embedded into his head, some of which would be useless, he set off to read books related to medicine and basic herbs, before preparing to leave the library.

(Also I still have no idea what Asclepius actually looks like, I've seen images of statues, but I mainly want the basics, like his hair color. Sorry for ranting.)

And just like that a week had gone by. Nothing much had changed for Mayra, that is if she ignored the fact that everything had changed. 

Ever since she had decided to not deny but embrace her feelings for Samarth, he had been glued to her mind. He haunted her dreams--No, scratch that, visited her dreams. She would find herself doodling things in her notepad absent mindedly and somewhere find the letter 'S' enclosed in a heart. 

The mid-terms were close and she hadn't ignored that fact while oogling over her crush, nah, she wasn't your average girl. She had been working day and night, taking notes down while others were busy gossiping around. Spending hours at the library while other watched random football practices, although she wished to be there to support her best friend, Shrey, he was going to be showered with sports marks at the end and her? She had to do it the hard way. She didn't mind it though. 

"Superb! 10/10. Why am I not surprised?" Tania exclaimed. Mayra had aced her first class test. "I got a good 6/10 but I'm hiding this away. Mom will have my head." 

Mayra passed her a pursed lip smile. 

Her eyes darted to where they usually did over the week. He was sitting there beside Aditya in his usual place. Had he scored good marks, too? 

"Seems like you're a good competition to Aadhya. Before you, it used to be Aadhya and Samarth, always competing for the first place. Somehow, Samarth always managed to stand first in the class." Tania sounded a lot like a proud mother, "She's scored full but apparently grumpy boy lost one mark somewhere." 

Mayra never cared about competing with others. She believed her only competitor was her own self. She had to be better than she was and that was the only way she could improve and succeed. 

Mayra tore her gaze away from Samartha and her eyes landed on a frowning Aditya, "What's up with him?"

Tania followed her field of vision and let out a defeated sigh before replying, "That's how I'd react if I got a zero, too." Tania pushed her hair away from her face. It had grown longer, now going beyond her knee length. "He sucks at Chem. Mrs. Dixit even gave him a remark."

"What remark?"

" 'You actually deserve negative marks'. "

Mayra eyebrow shot up but she refrained from commenting. She had in her hands Shrey's sheet. He had got a fair 5/10. She was satisfied. 

That day was supposed to be the last day of tidying up the floor for the Book Club and Shrey had ditched her. He hadn't showed up at school and later had the audacity to send her a text saying 'Sorry, should've informed earlier. Family function.'

She was glad things were still normal between them after the shocking revelation she'd heard that night during spin the bottle. Shrey was her best friend and she didn't wish to ever lose him. 

But, that also opened another possibility.

Her and Samarth, alone. With each other.

The music coming out of Samarth's cellphone echoed into the room as Mayra nervously tried to put the last of the books together into the shelf. 

Sure, she had accepted her feelings for him but it was only a minor crush. She wouldn't be throwing herself at him. In fact, she wanted herself to be as far apart from him as possible. Nothing had to accelerate what already existed for him. 

She had said to him on his face, and should I mention, rather rudely to not disturb her as she did her part. He had nodded quietly and the guilt had immediately taken over. 

Suddenly, the music playing from his phone stopped. 

What's wrong? 

He emerged out of the maze of bookshelf. His face depicted a sense of curiosity. 

Be firm. Don't give yourself away, Mayra reminded herself. 

"What happened?" She sounded rude. Ruder than she wanted to sound. 

He advanced closer to her and lifted his arm. A big book was gripped in his hands, covered in all black. 

"That's the book you were reading, right? The Night Sky?" 

Mayra looked up at him, confounded and amused, "It's actually the second part, I couldn't find it in the library." She shook her head lightly, "How did you know?"

Samarth smiled at her, "I saw you reading it during the football practice."

"You did?" He did? 

He nodded silently. 

All these times, Mayra thought that butterflies in the stomach was only a metaphor. But she felt it in that moment. 

"If you can't find the second part, I think you should take this one. No one will know if one book goes missing." He winked at her. 

"No, no. Two books. Don't even try to tell me you didn't take Wuthering Heights with you." 

"Okay. Guilty." He laughed and the sound gave her butterflies. Again. 

She shook her head and abruptly moved away. Focus. Not on him. No distractions, remember? She told herself but not very convincingly. 

Samarth fidgeted the book in his hands, a smirk playing across his face as he asked, "Chem, Night Sky, Football, Classics? What else are you into?"

You. 

Wait! How did that thought enter her mind? 

"I'm into classics, but I have read any yet, actually. And I watched that one practice match because Shrey wanted me to be there."

Samarth frowned, "But you know about Wuthering Heights, right?"

"And Pride and Prejudice and The Great Gatsby. I want to read them someday. Once I'm done with my current obsession that is. The beautiful sky at night, filled with stars." A smile spread over her face as her eyes got unfocused and her her voice dreamy, "The constellations are cool. I love Venus the most, which is also the name of the Greek Goddess of Love." Oops. She bit her lips to refrain from blabbering more. That was how she behaved whenever she got comfortable around anyone. 

Mayra eyes darted back to Samarth who was watching her with an expression she couldn't fathom. She got aware of their proximity and inched away a bit. She didn't want to melt away. 

"Greek Mythology? Wow. You're diverse." He sounded genuinely amused and that fluttered her heart. People usually got bored whenever they heard her talk about her interests. It was such a turn off. 

The worst thing a person can do is make someone feel stupid for being excited and interested in something they like. 

"I don't know it all but I know every detail of the Mahabharata. I was pretty obsessed with the TV show that aired a few years back. Read all that I could." She let out a giggle, "But, I can't choose between Indian Mythology and Greek Mythology." Ah, crap! She did it again. 

There were times she admitted the fact. She actually liked showing off her knowledge. It was a bad habit but guilty! 

"I-I'm sorry!" She continued, feeling embarrassed, "We should get the work done." She picked up some books from the table and walked to the closest shelf. At that point, she was just putting books anywhere, not according to the list. 

"I don't know anything about Indian Myths but I do love Greek Mythology." The reply was delayed, as if he was pulled into deep thoughts. 

"No, that's not possible." Mayra said, feeling uneasy. What if he was only pretending to be interested into all that? But why? 

"Why? Has anyone told you ever that you judge people a lot?" Samarth said in a low tone. Was he actually offended? 

"I don't judge others." She chewed on her bottom lip. 

He shook his head and decided to put that topic away, "Coming back to my point, I'm an absolute fan of Greek Myths. Who's your favorite myth?" He picked up a few books from where Mayra had placed them, gave her a confused look before placing them in their correct positions in accordance to the list. 

"I got two. Together." She sighed and once again went back to her dreamy land, "Hades and Persephone." 

"I expected your answer to be something like Zeus or Poseidon but okay, he's the God of the Dead and King of the Underworld. Cool, right?"

Samarth laughed and Mayra only gave a sly grin. She didn't like Hades just because he was the God of the Dead. 

"So your favorite is Zeus, then?" The thought made her giggle. It was expected of Samarth really, from all she had heard about his way with girls from Tania. 

He grabbed a book from her hands and their fingers made the slightest contact with each other. 

It's nothing. Don't think about that! 

She sighed over her erratically beating heart and heard his reply. 

"Yeah! I mean is there anyone he didn't get pregnant? I decided to make a greek mythology family tree for fun and it's all Zeus. He married his sister! Did it ever happen in Indian Mythology?" He laughed and she joined in too. 

"But it's not incest. Okay? Gods don't have genes so," She shrugged. 

He nodded his head, "Yeah, when you put it like that." For a moment silence lingered and then both of them began laughing without constraint. 

Mayra knew it was genuine from her side and for the sake of her delicate heart she wished it was genuine from him too.

Ambrose, it's such a fascinating name, it derives from Latin meaning Immortal, and derives even further from its greek counterpart, ambrosia, or food of the gods, as I said, fascinating. However, it is a misleading name, you see for humans are anything but immortal, neither are we any food. The human species as a whole is at the top of the food chain, and we, as humans, have the power to eradicate all life on our planet. We are so powerful that if any other species were to gain consciousness, they could potentially label us as deities, you see we are not food or prey, we are the exact opposite. I know Ambrose not because of its meaning or the irony, no, I know it because it's my name.


Angelopoulos, another foreign name, this one also originates greek, it's similar to my first name, however, meaning son of the messenger or just angel, combine them and my full name becomes the immortal son of the messenger or the everlasting angel. I find myself with a preference for the former because angels are already eternal, and thus being called the perpetual son of the messenger makes you immortal and a child of Hermes from the Greeks, Mercury from the Romans, and any other messenger god. I, however, am going to stick to the Greek theme I have going, my name is Ambrose Angelopoulos, the immortal child of Hermes, god that sounds exalted.


I would ask why my parents decide to name me such a bizarre name; However, I cannot, you see my parents died when I was three, I cannot remember much, but from what the orphanage matrons told me, It was their anniversary. They were driving back when the downpour caused the car to swerve. They hit a truck, killing them instantly.


Growing up, I was always a person who prioritized reading and learning over making friends, that combined with unusual intelligence, and having a unique name led me to become isolated within the orphanage. Being isolated and left with only books as friends, made me mature faster than usual, which made me even more isolated by the other orphans, causing me to retreat further into my books and created an unending cycle.


Sadly having no friends or acquaintances as a developing child left me to become increasingly socially awkward with children my age. This made me effectually mute, I only talked to adults or myself, that last part worried adults around me.


Eventually, school started, and I found it incredibly easy, blame it on my intelligence and reading habits. I skipped several years of school, this lead to an IQ test in which I scored a 152. I joined a class for 4th grade as a six-year-old, and I naively thought that these kids would be far more mature than children my age, in a way they were, but they still were jealous of my academic skills and that eventually lead to bullying. While being bullied, I quickly came to the epiphany that there was no need for friends when they all mocked me. I decided that there was no need to make friends, and all I needed was my books and the matrons.


One day after school, I was being chased by a mob of children of all ages. I placed a hand on a wall to rest from the constant running, I could hear the crowd coming closer to my position when suddenly I fell. I didn't fall down, I fell sideways, after catching myself from my brief fall I jumped to the conclusion that I was dreaming, after all, no one can fall through walls and not be dreaming, right? I quickly realized that I wasn't dreaming, then I came to two conclusions, either the wall is an illusion, or I can become intangible. I looked around from where I fell, and the place could only be described as if it was made for me, hundreds of rows of books, lot's of comfy chairs, and most importantly, there was almost no one there! I grabbed a random book from the bookshelves thinking that whoever owned these books wouldn't mind letting me read some of them.


Several hours later, which seemed to pass like seconds, an old-ish lady came to tell me that the library was closing, I promptly checked the book and left. Eventually, I arrived at the orphanage and was questioned on my whereabouts by Mrs. Mutton, one of the matrons. After explaining where I was and how amazing the library is, Mrs. Mutton got this look in her eye and started laughing. The audacity of laughing at the glorious place they call a library made me huff and brood to my room.


This repeated for several years, and now I am 11. After graduating from elementary school, I moved onto middle school, and the bullying continued, a good thing was that the whole time I was at the top of my class and I discovered the London library. The London Library was everything I could have ever asked for and more. It was there where I found my name's meaning, and also where I found my new favorite hobby, reading tales of old, from gods to farmers, demigods completing quests, and stories of how the earth was created.


Before reading those tales, I wanted to be a hero, you know fighting monsters, getting glory, and jazz. But in all the stories I read, a common theme was that the hero often suffered it was then I decided I never wanted to be a hero, then again being a villain wasn't suited to my tastes. I decided that I would be a bystander until someone bothered me, I would crush their friends, their families, and make them suffer. MUAHAHAHAHA—

"Who dares interrupt my inner villain monologue?" I asked in a jokingly manner.


I notice a bird trying to get in my room, I would have ignored it, but I saw a letter on its foot.


I let it in.


This letter is unique, I can feel it.

 I am a high school student, I am doing this to get better at writing. As of right now, I have no release schedule planned but I will try to update once a week. I suck at summaries. One more thing, Criticism is welcome, after all, I am trying to improve.

Celestina woke peacefully from her undisturbed deep slumber. Yawning, she woke up and got ready for her school for her second day in Ralphydor school.
Soon she was met with her two new besties. "Hey, Jayden, Emily!" She greeted her new partners in crime.
"Hola, mi amigo" Jayden greeted her back. Emily shyly waved at her. Celestina chuckled, wrapping an arm around Emily and looked at Jayden. "I didn't know you could speak Spanish." "Ah, yeah. My family was of Spanish origin. So, I naturally developed a liking towards that language." Celestina hummed before answering "I like that language though I am not well versed in it" she shrugged.
Jayden was about to say something but Emily cut him off, "Leave about that, tell us about you!" Though Celestina noticed a small frown transforming into a grin on Jayden 's face she decided not to question it.
"Um...so, I have a little sister Charlotte, she is two years old and I have a brother who is sixteen years old. He is studying here. Um...I live about 35 minutes away from here and that's it about me."
"Ok. Now tell us about your hobbies and what all you like" requested Emily. "yeah, my favorite color is blue, I am a Potterhead and I love Rick Riordan's books so I like Greek mythology." Replied Celestina. 
"Is it so? Then let me test your knowledge on...Greek mythology first" Said Jayden. She chuckled before saying "Proceed"
"Name any five Greek heroes"
"Persues, Odysseus, Hercules, Jason, Achilles"
"Hmm, then which god is known as the divine blacksmith?"
"Hephaestus"
"Wow, You scored 100% in your greek mythology test. Now let's move on t-" "That's enough Jayden, you're not here to take Celestina 's tes-" "I know, I know Em, but this is just a, you know, a friendly fandom talk?" Celestina 's traveled from Emily to Jayden as they bickered and in the end, she threw her head back and laughed.
Once she calmed down she said "It's all right Emily" "See, it is ok for her" Emily stuck her tongue out at Jayden. 
"Ah, now, it's time for some Harry Potter quiz" Jayden said, rubbing his hands together and wiggling his eyebrows. Celestina couldn't stop but chuckle at the blonde in front of her. 
The day went on with the three new individuals bonding together in the name of friendship...maybe it's 4 and not three.

It took lots of climbing, and overall raising Daniel over Eryth's shoulders to get places, since no other hunter wanted to lift a boy and I wasn't tall enough to make any significant changes to his height. I also wanted to be lifted by Eryth.
We passed through broken windows, torn down wallpapers, and unlocked doors with broken keys inside of the keyholes. The whole house had an air of being abandoned, but by the way Daniel walked the halls, I noted how he remembered each turn and jump.
"Who was that… girl?" I asked, walking besides him as Eryth helped Sipriotes cross safely over a broken window.
"I guess she's my sister, but she insisted I call her Miss," Daniel turned and tried to push a door. Seeing as it didn't open, I helped by kicking it. It immediately opened, and he smiled at me. It was nice to see him smile after all the crying he had done before.
"Isn't it odd not to know who she was to you?" I said, the girl whose family, or families, were a mess.
"I just cared how she treated me, and how we lived, I guess."
We walked into the room, books decorated the walls, but taking a look at the tables surrounding us, it was clear the only thing taken care of there were the books. The shelves could have dust from when the gods still fought over who was the patron of what city, but the books shone brightly.
Of various widths and heights, they decorated the 3 opposing walls completely, a bright ornament on their side to be easily recognisable. I could tell apart the lightning bolt, an owl, a moon, a sun, a trident, and a pair of snakes around a staff- a caduceus. I assumed these were all for different gods, and wouldn't be surprised considering how Daniel seemed to understand way more about the ancient greek than I did at his age.
"I guess you don't attend any school?"
"No," He answered, taking out a book with a wine cup, I assumed Dionysus, but when the book was taken out, I could read the cover clearly in greek. Hebe. Daniel opened it and started scanning the pages, written not in greek but possibly English, "Miss taught me about the gods, she was old and took care of demigods like me before sending them to a place called Camp Half Blood. She said we were safe here, but she got sick, and youth can't save you from illness."
Now, I was told I was determined and mature 'for my age' plenty of times in the Hunt, but I had to admit Daniel took me by surprise. Firstly, he had managed a funeral for possibly his only family, secondly, he knew how to read, and that already put him far ahead of me in something. I frowned as he scanned the pages.
"So you're a demigod, right?"
Daniel turned his head so violently his messy bangs flew to the side of his head, sticking there. The boy needed a bath. But no, I was not going to bathe even remotely close to him.
"Of course, and so are you, right? Huntress of Artemis, a demigoddess or a nymph."
"Hunter of Artemis," I corrected, "And there are also mortals, but I am a demigoddess."
"Huntress," He insisted, placing Hebe's book back and taking out the one with the moon.
"Hun-ter." I smirked.
"Whatever," Daniel rolled his eyes playfully, "So who are you a daughter of?"
I took no time to think about Poseidon.
"Unimportant, but what does the book say?"
"It's about myths and information about Artemis, but I assume you know all about her?" Daniel said, hiding the book in his chest. Jokes on him, I didn't even know how to read that thing if I got my hands on it.
"I know most things, I guess. At least what's important."
"KALILA," Eryth stormed into the room, dust flying all over the place, "Oh thank the gods you're ok-" She hurried to hug me, looking at Daniel with worry.
"I'm alright… where's Sipriotes?"
"Getting a bandaged head. She needs to learn not to jump over broken glass. Nevertheless, Kalila we need to talk."
"Then go ahead," Daniel jumped in, hiding back the book with the moon, ���I won't bother."

Eryth eyed him with a frown, but started talking.
"We found no maiden here, the Hunt is insisting we continue looking in order for no more situations like these to happen. We can't take the boy with us, you know the rules."
"And I don't expect to take him," I answered, surprised Eryth would consider me ever saying such a suggestion for the Hunt.
"Wait, what do you mean?" Daniel asked with a frown of confusion, "You won't leave me here alone, right? I mean, when you arrived I thought you were sent as pity from the gods. Are you not going to protect me?" His voice became shaky again.
"Look boy, we need to see-"
"My name is Daniel, not 'boy'."
"Ok, Daniel, we need to see our options. Only this night, we will stay under these roofs and tomorrow, as soon as the storm passes, we'll come to a conclusion. Ok?" Eryth muttered back. She may have a thing with protecting children, but she certainly had a softer spot for girls.
"Huntress, I mean- Kalila," Daniel seemed to remember my name only from when Eryth shouted it, "Please don't let me alone."
"I'll… see what I can do."
Daniel looked down at the book with the moon ornament, and didn't follow us when we left.

Afternoon

"If she stays, I'll stay. We catch up later, Kalila's got a pegasus of her own."
"Isn't Royal a bit old?" Phoebe asked, her nose still wrinkled. She didn't seem to like my plan at all.
"Roy's perfectly fine," I crossed my arms, taking a seat but having to raise my elbows, for they didn't quite reach the table properly, "We only need to get Daniel to Camp and then we'll come back. I don't care if he's a boy, but he's a child,"
"You just see too much of you in him, don't you?" Sipiriotes said, "A child, lost an old sibling, alone in a farmhouse,"
"I did not lose my siblings, I left for their own safety." I muttered back, "I chose to join the Hunt for my own survival, and while it's not the only reason I stayed, for I learnt to love all of you, I find it only fair to give back what I received and help this boy."
Eryth placed a hand on my shoulder, making me come back to Earth. I had stood up, rather aggressively, but I dropped myself into my seat once more.
"Kalila, you need to be safe, I'll tell Artemis and hopefully won't have to carry the tents for a week, but… I'm just concerned. You really don't know what he can do," Phoebe took my hand, but didn't meet my eyes. The look on her face worried me.
Eryth took my other hand, but her golden eyes pierced into mine.
"We'll try this night. You can share a room and if he does anything suspicious, depending on how horrible, we either leave him by himself, or kill him. Deal?"
Did I trust this boy enough yet? No. Did I want to trust him?
"Deal." 

The Hunt dispersed through the house. Whenever we were not hunting, most became anxious and stressed. Possibly demigods' ADHD, but I was too stressed about other things as to be worried about moving my arrows.
I stood and left with no further word at Eryth, but I heard her sigh.

Evening

"What did you decide then?" 
"We're taking you to Camp, then our stories go different ways," I fidgeted with an arrow taken from my quiver. It had a braided decoration around it, which was nice to play with.
"Oh that's great!" Daniel hugged me, but I instinctively pushed him away.
"Don't hug me."
"Oh- A-Alright…"
"You're coming with Eryth and I, the redheaded nymph."
"Isn't that few people?"
"Weren't you taught three is the perfect number for demigods to move in?"
"Well, but Eryth is a nymph," Daniel shrugged.
"I guess I count like two-" I chuckled, remembering I didn't know Daniel's godly parent. If it was a powerful one… we could be in trouble, "So, have you ever met your mother or father?"
"Miss told me I had no mother, but my father was...um," He laughed emptily, "It's embarrassing to say…"
"Daniel, I met children of most gods, one weirder than the last one,"
"Firstly tell me yours," He raised his chin with a questioning frown.
I rolled my eyes, there was not really much I could lose by telling him.
"God of the sea, Poseidon. That's why I say I count as two, I've been followed by monsters pretty often due to supposedly being powerful. Now your turn,"
Daniel looked at the bookshelves, but his eyes landed in no book.
"Miss had no book about him. She always hated him, but knew for sure it was Phobos."
God of fear, I recalled.
"It could be worse," I tried to comfort him, although he showed more apathy than concern about his ancestry.
"Not only the person with the worst father can complain, I can too. Miss allowed me to."
"Then… maybe you're right."
With every moment Daniel mentioned Miss, I wanted to further know her. Daniel seemed well formed, determined.
"Why did you know so much about the Hunt? Plenty of demigods at Camp Half Blood barely know much about us, yet you don't seem so shocked."
Daniel blew the dust from a table and a pair of chairs, and little by little moved them together. I helped him lift one up after I got tired of the screeching sound against the floor. The 'bed' in the room was nothing more than a wooden base with several wool covers, but no type of cushion or pillow was anywhere to be found. I didn't complain, after all, I tended to sleep in a sleeping bag most of the time.
I turned to the chair, when Daniel placed several books over the table. He breathed heavily at the effort of raising them, although they didn't look like much weight to me. I could fortunately read the covers, being in ancient greek made it easy for me, but I didn't like the idea of ink words I couldn't comprehend inside.
"Could you read these to me?" Daniel asked, raising the book with the trident up to me. 
Oh perfect.
"No."
"Please?" he lowered his head and raised his eyes.
"Nope."
"I never read them all, these are the ones I haven't read. And I'm sure you'd find them interesting, please!"
I exhaled strongly, Eryth slapped open the door.
"Oh. I'll be back with your dinner, boy-" She dismissed the interruption with a flick of the wrist and left the hallways, leaving the door open.

"Daniel," I looked back at him, taking a seat and pressing my hands together, "Why do you want to learn so much about the gods and whatever these books tell?"
"Well, for starters, Miss wrote all of them," I raised an eyebrow in disbelief, those were just too many books, "And… I don't like monsters, nor evil gods, but if I learn about everything I may be able to fight them better. You surely have no problem as a daughter of Poseidon, you must be very powerful!"
I grinned with bright teeth, but expressive eyes.
"I don't know how to read."
"Heh- You're kidding." Daniel chuckled and pushed my shoulder playfully.
"Nope," I said with a bite of the lower lip.
"Well, I-I could teach you?"
I didn't like the idea of a boy teaching me anything, but I shrugged.
"Go ahead," I picked out the book with moon. I wanted to start with something I was familiar with, but not as much as the trident.

Daniel pushed his chair next to mine and sat over his own legs. With care, he opened the book on the first page, making sure the pages didn't tear as he opened it completely.
"Can you read this?"
"Of course, that says Artemis."
"Yes, but in ancient greek," Daniel passed his finger under the ink of some letters, "Here it says 'Notes One', can you read that?"
I focused and tried to remember Chris' few lessons, but I only recognized the O. Circular like the form your mouth does when you pronounce it.
"Why is it 'Wan' when it's written with an O?" I asked in confusion.
"I don't know. Reading and writing is hard, but once you get the hang of it it becomes easy. Here, read this,"
I read first in my mind as to not make a fool of myself, but even when I said it out loud, it wasn't right.
"Psoralen Tones," 
"No, Kalila, it says Personal Notes. Never mind, I'll read it on my own eventually," Daniel patiently smiled at me and closed the book, "You know… Miss had wanted to join the Hunt of Artemis, but she couldn't."
"What did she do?" I asked him, already expecting the answer.
"She had a child, with a god I believe. She didn't want it, but couldn't help it. I don't quite get it, but- are you crying?"
I hurried to raise my sleeve to my eye to dry it.
"Never mind, nevertheless, we should go down to get your dinner."
"I have a feeling your friends don't really like me," Daniel sadly chuckled, "It might be better if I wait for you here."
Like blessed by Tyche, Eryth walked in holding two plates with some kind of chicken.
"Pheasants cooked by Sipriotes, I don't trust her cooking but I hope it's edible."

Kalila discovers she's a half-blood early in her life and has to join the Hunt of Artemis in a rush to survive the constant monster attacks she was cursed under. Unfortunately, while saving a young orphaned boy, she finds herself of his interest against the maiden code.
