10 Classic Superheroes, Ranked By Their Origin Stories

Not everyone is born a hero. In the case of superheroes, it's a singular moment that typically sets the individual on the path to becoming a force for good. That's what is known as the origin story. Whether it's an alien with unbelievable powers or a regular Earthling who's just trying to do the best with their natural talents, each comic book protagonist has an experience that leads them on their heroic path. And boy, have there been a lot of these told for both classic and modern heroes. 

The comic book medium has been going strong for more 75 years, and over those decades hundreds, if not thousands, of superheroes have been introduced. Typically these origin stories have been seen across a variety of media by both passionate comic book fans and people who are just looking for a good tale. And just because a hero is successful doesn't mean that they got off to the best start with their origin stories, but when these tales are told right, they're the stuff of legend. Here are some of the most famous superheroes of all time ranked by how great and epic their origin stories are.

1. The X-Men

Of course, each individual X-Men has their own unique stories, but together the team's origin tale is a classic. As mutants, they were all born with their abilities rather than imbued with them by science, magic or aliens. Consequently, many of these people face mistrust and bigotry from the general population who view them as freaks of nature. However, despite their persecution, they still use their powers to protect the innocent. Brought together by Charles Xavier, the X-Men not only combat threats ranging from fanatical humans to fellow mutants, but their overall mission is to fight for the rights of their fellow mutants and usher in a world of acceptance and peace. So even though their overall story is based in a superhero world, it's memorable because their goals are similar to what many of us want to achieve in real life.

2. The Flash (Barry Allen)

In the 1950s, DC Comics decided to relaunch several of their most successful superheroes from the 1940s as new individuals. The Flash was the first to receive this treatment, being reintroduced in 1956 as forensic scientist Barry Allen. While working late in his lab one night, he was struck by lightning, which subsequently knocked him into shelf full of chemicals. After waking up, he discovered he could run at superhuman speeds, and donning the red and yellow costume that's become much more recognizable than his predecessor's, Barry became the new Flash and built a quite a supporting cast. Visually it's one of the best origins on this list, but it also has a distinct sci-fi feel to it that few DC hero origins had before it. Many non-comic book fans saw this origin told for the first time back in October on the CW series The Flash.

3. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)

Green Lantern was the second DC hero to be revitalized during the Silver Age of comic books. This time around, test pilot Hal Jordan inherited a special ring after it was bequeathed to him by a dying alien named Abin Sur who had crash-landed on Earth. Unlike the magical ring that the Golden Age Green Lantern wore, Hal Jordan's ring was a product of science that allowed him to use his willpower to fly and make solid constructs with his mind. Inheriting Abin Sur's legacy, Hal became the new Green Lantern of Sector 2814, and the first human to ever join the Green Lantern Corps. Like The Flash, it's memorable for its sci-fi feel, but also to due to how this Green Lantern inherited his heroic legacy from a mysterious visitor (which would later be repeated with Kyle Rayner) whereas his predecessor Alan Scott just sort of stumbled upon his power.

Seen On Screen: In the flawed, but right now only, Green Lantern origin movie with Ryan Reynolds, which hit theaters in 2011.

4. Iron Man

Although the location for Iron Man's origin has changed several times throughout the decades, the story itself has not. While demonstrating some of his creations abroad, Tony Stark was injured and taken captive by enemy soldiers. While in captivity, he was forced to build weapons for these terrorists, but with the help of scientist Ho Yinsen, he built a mechanical suit that allowed him to defeat his captors and escape to freedom. With a renewed perspective on life, Tony uses his new armor to protect the innocent as Iron Man. Not only is it one of best redemption origin stories and full of action as Tony escaped his imprisonment, it also showed that not everyone who becomes a superhero starts out as a moral individual. Sometimes takes a nudge (or in Tony's case nearly dying from shrapnel in your heart) to discover your true potential.

Seen On Screen: Stark's destiny was brought to life by Jon Favreau in 2008's Iron Man, with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead.

5 Captain America

Captain America's origin story wouldn't work well as an anti-drug PSA, but it's an excellent story of trumping over the odds. Steve Rogerswanted to serve in World War II, but his scrawny body and ill health prevented him from enlisting. Fortunately for him, he was chosen as the test subject for Project Rebirth, and after being injected with the Super Soldier Serum, his body became the epitome of physical perfection. Soon after the scientist who created the serum was assassinated by a Nazi spy, leaving the serum's formula lost and making Steve the only one of his kind. He subsequently became Captain America to not only to help defeat the Axis forces, but to become one of the most well-known superheroes in the present-day after being frozen for decades. As mentioned earlier, it's memorable for featuring the little guy rising up to beat the odds, but it also helps that it was an important reflection of the era he was created in and even inspired good to defeat evil in real life.

Stories about immortals have shaped human history since the beginning of time.
Zeus and other gods of Olympus were immortals. Adam and other early human ancestors were written in religious books as humans who lived up to 900 years old. Adam (930), Set (912), Enos (905), Kenan (910), Yared (962), and the longest-living human in the world which was Methuselah who died at the age of 969.
In the scripture, following the epoch of Noah and the Great Flood, was a period of time where humans, as punished by God because of their evil ways, could no longer live past 120 years old. This had been my basis for writing the story of 'The Alchemists'.
Alchemy is a pseudoscience (considered as not real science) believing that the entire universe is moving toward a perfect state where gold, a metal known for its indestructible properties, is the most perfect substance.
With this principle, alchemists believe that by understanding the secrets of the unchanging gold, they would eventually grasp the key to warding off diseases and organic decay, thus creating humans with physical perfection: the immortals.
 The Alchemists tried to find or come up with the chemical formula for the Philosopher's Stone which functions to convert metals into gold and make the Elixir of Life/Youth,  a drug that cures all kinds of and allows them to live longer than humans in general.
Topics about chemistry, spirituality, and astrology became the focus of medieval alchemy. Until the 18th century, alchemy was considered a serious branch of science in Europe. Isaac Newton devoted much of his time to this field of study.
Other prominent alchemists from the Western world are Roger Bacon, St. Thomas Aquinas, Tycho Brahe, Thomas Browne, and Parmigianino. It was this alchemy that later became the foundation of 18th-century modern Chemistry.
WHAT IF, the alchemists actually succeeded in finding the formula for the immortality potion and restoring the human bodies into their original perfection, so they could be like their ancestors who used to live past 900 years?
This is the story of the Alchemist clan who discovered the elixir of youth and has lived as immortals since 1450, ruling the world from behind the shadows and at the same time spreading rumors that alchemy is a failed science.
Because time was in their hands, these immortals or semi immortals did not rush to find partners and only bore children when they were already hundreds of years old. In their long lives, they learned and gathered so much wisdom and knowledge that no modern humans, who only have dozens of years to do so, could compare.
Because time is in their hands, these perfect humans acquired a different outlook on life and society than today's regular people who tend to rush and pursue temporary pleasures in the modern world.
They became people who have finally found a way to manipulate the elements and make themselves perfect. They now have all the time in the world to do whatever they want, learn whatever they want, and explore wherever their feet could take them.
To conceal themselves from the general public, Alchemists spread rumors that alchemy is a failed science and that all fables about immortal humans are nothing but mere fairy tales. Yet in reality... they are among us, living with us, and ruling the world from the shadows.

WHAT'S IN THIS BOOK SERIES?
In VOLUME 1 (254 chapters), you will be introduced to the Alchemists. The story is light-hearted and heartwarming. I intentionally started the series with romance to put us in a good mood before getting ready for the intense Volume 2.
In VOLUME 2 (350 chapters), you will meet more of the Alchemists and witness their internal conflict for power. This volume is quite intense but also passionate.
Later, we will have light hearted side stories (100 chapters) about the side characters before we continue to Volume 3.
In VOLUME 3 (approx 200 chapters), the Alchemists will face an enemy who found out about their secrets and wanted to destroy them. This will be the most intense part of the series.
Each Volume (except for the side stories) is an independent book, related to one another but can be enjoyed individually. If you like short novels, you can just read per volume. If you are into romance, go for Volume 1, if you like more action and sci-fi go for Volume 2. But if you enjoy reading long novels, you can just read the whole series. It's very flexible.
I could choose to write 3 different novels but opted against it because I am a practical person. Since the stories are connected, why not let readers have the whole series under one title? It is also for ranking purposes. Usually, once a novel is completed, the ranking will drop, I don't want that to happen so soon.
So, please bear with me and give this book a year to reach its final destination, starting in May 2019.  I intentionally only locked it from chapter 176 so you could enjoy so many free chapters and decide if you would like to invest more time and SS to continue reading.
I do hope you'll enjoy the first volume enough to continue to the next one. This book is originally written in Indonesian and most original readers who enjoyed Volume 1, cannot say enough good things about Volume 2.

As soon as Qin Tian was sucked into a black hole, he entered a tunnel.

The tunnel was like a whirlpool that sucked everything into it. However, the vortex was not in water but in space.

Qin Tian felt his body being pulled into the depths of the spatial tunnel. His body bobbed to and fro in the spatial tunnel as if he was hit by strong winds.

Qin Tian could not help but curse Old Yuan in his heart for sending him to a damned place like this.

Even though he was in an empty space so he didn't crash into anything, however, he still felt his head dizzy, and his vision was filled with star spots.

He wondered where he would be sent after passing through this damned spatial tunnel. Will he go to where the gods live as Old Yuan said?

At first, the tunnel was a dark place so that Qin Tian could not see anything. He could only feel his surroundings. However, after a while he passed the spatial tunnel, the tunnel began to emit a different color. Different types of colors can be found on each side of the tunnel. Qin Tian even saw many colors that he did not recognize. These colors never existed on earth. He never saw it. Or it might just not yet be found.

Qin Tian's body continued to move with unimaginable speed inside a spatial tunnel. The further he entered, the more various colors he saw.

And after a few more moments, the scenery he saw changed again. However, what he saw next was something even more amazing.

He saw a red planet with a size much larger than the planet Earth. The extent of reaching more than 5 million kilometers.

The planet is filled with vast expanses of desert. Hills from small to large whose height reaches the clouds can be found on the planet. And what's even more amazing is: Qin Tian saw living creatures that were no different from humans roaming the red planet. Those humans look very strong. Their bodies are large and filled with muscles. If on earth, only wrestlers have a body like that. But even though their bodies were similar to wrestlers, the power they displayed was far stronger than wrestlers on earth. Qin Tian even saw a human who punched a stone tens of meters in size, and the stone was directly destroyed after being hit by his fist.

"What? There really is another world!" Qin Tian was secretly shocked in his heart. He could not help but be surprised after he saw another world.

Qin Tian never imagined there was another world with life. And it lies before his own eyes. Although the people of earth know that there are many planets in space, but no one knows that there is life there. Now he can see another life. This made him feel amazed.

He focused his gaze to look at every part of the planet. He wondered if there were gods on this planet. Old Yuan said, gods have the power to destroy heaven and earth. Qin Tian felt Old Yuan was only exaggerating his words. After all, even planets like Earth are already so vast, how could anyone possibly destroy them. Therefore, he hopes to see the gods on this planet to see how much power the gods have. Unfortunately, the speed of movement in the spatial tunnel is too fast. Only a few moments passed, he had passed the red planet. He continued to move in the spatial tunnel to a more distant place.

After he passed a planet, the scenery in the spatial tunnel returned to darkness as before. And after a while moving in the spatial tunnel, various colors as before appeared again in his view. Even though the scenery looked the same, but Qin Tian knew, he was currently in a different place. He guessed, after passing through that colored place, he might arrive in a different world again. He wondered what the world was like.

And sure enough, in just a few moments, he saw another planet appearing in his view. However, unlike the previous red planet which has a size much larger than the earth, this new planet has approximately the same size as the planet Earth. This planet also has life. But life on this planet is no different from planet Earth. Humans on this planet are as weak as those on planet Earth. And that's even worse than on planet Earth because the civilization on this planet is very outdated. That might be the equivalent of the earth three thousand years ago. They are just barbarians. Qin Tian does not believe there is a god on this planet.

However, even though this planet looks very outdated when compared to planet Earth, Qin Tian still looks at this planet with great interest. After all, this is another world. Who is not interested in seeing another world.

Unfortunately, because the size of the planet is too small. Qin Tian had passed him in just a few moments, and continued his journey in the spatial tunnel.

Quickly, he arrived in another world.  And the next world that Qin Tian saw this time truly amazed him. The size of the planet this time is only one third of the previous red planet. But that is still far bigger than planet Earth. As for what fascinated Qin Tian was the progress of civilization on this planet.  Because it only passes in spatial tunnels, Qin Tian is not clear how advanced the planet's civilization is.  However, seeing from tall buildings that look very modern, and various kinds of vehicles flying in the sky, Qin Tian knows, the civilization on this planet is exactly the same as the civilizations in the sci-fi genre films.  And people on this planet also have powers like those on the previous red planet.

The further Qin Tian entered the spatial tunnel, the faster his flight. In just a few moments, he had passed the world of sci-fi, and proceeded to another world.

He passed from one world to another. Since entering the black hole, and traveling in spatial tunnels, Qin Tian has seen nearly 100 worlds with different civilizations. However, the world he has met so far is not too different from the red planet and the sci-fi planet. Most planets are the same size as the red planet and the sci-fi planet. And humans there have powers similar to those on the red planet and the sci-fi planet.

Qin Tian continued to fly in spatial tunnels, and passed through many worlds. After some time, Qin Tian suddenly saw a white tunnel in front of him. He then flew into the white tunnel.

When entering the white tunnel, Qin Tian had a feeling that he had entered another tunnel. However, after passing through the white tunnel, the thing that happened was still the same as before. The tunnel went dark again and then turned colorful.

It's just that, since he entered the white tunnel, the feeling he felt was completely different. He felt as if he were in a dimension that was completely different from the earth.

Previously, even though he passed through many worlds, the feeling he felt was still the same as the feeling when he was on earth. But now it's really different. He felt as if he was in a higher place.

After a while, he finally arrived at the end of a colorful tunnel. Qin Tian knew, he would soon arrive to a new world again.

He continued to fly in the colorful spatial tunnel until he finally saw a new world.

However, when Qin Tian saw the new world, he directly widened his eyes. His mouth is also wide open so that an egg can enter.

The world in front of him was completely different from the world he had seen. All that the world he saw was a round world called a planet. However, the world he saw now was not a planet, but a continent. Right. That is a continent. The continent was floating in space as if a ship sailed in a vast ocean.

And what's even more amazing is that the continent has an endless size. If the red planet was previously made flat, it might only be about five percent of the continent. It was so vast that Qin Tian could not see its end even though he was far above the continent.

Because he was far above the continent, and his flight speed was too fast, Qin Tian could not see life on that continent. But he felt enormous pressure from the continent.

"Is there a god there?" Qin Tian could not help but ask.

I woke up early than usual and reminded myself it's Christmas today and I could not feel any zeal of it, I never did. Christmas was meant to be a festival but for us it was different, every year it is used an event to promote sinful mafia businesses and that meant trouble every Christmas. And this year, I was the victim who has to undergo the wrath of fate or I should call wrath of my father. He  has always been selfish and I could not expect anymore from him. 
I brushed my teeth,took a long, hot shower and put my orange jumpsuit with stripes on.
I decided to leave my hair open and headed towards dining hall where everybody were having their breakfast. I thought I was early today but never mind!
I wished Merry Christmas to all and everyone wished me back expect Mr Costello. He doesn't have manners I guess.  my mother said, 

"Good morning, sweet heart.You are up early, today."

"Oh! but I think I'm the last person to reach here."

I stated and Franco's mother smiled and said, 

"Don't worry you are not late,we just gathered here come and serve yourself, El."

She is so sweet to believe that she is actually the wife of one of the most cold hearted men I know. Franco's nature must be inherited by her. 
I smiled and took my seat to breakfast. 
I served myself a toast, a pancake and a freshly brewed coffee. My father was reading newspaper and Franco's father was busy taking information about functioning of his business in his absence. Everyone was quiet,just Neel asking silly questions from Franco about his cars and all. 
After breakfast everyone left for their respective works. I did not wanted to go to my room and feel caged so I decided to walk around in our garden.Franco saw me,not going in the direction of room and came to me to ask, 

"Are you going somewhere?"

"Just to check out the new blossoms in the garden."

I replied. 

"Can I join you?"

He asked. 

"Why not? let's go."

The weather was perfect to have a walk. Franco walked with me and we noticed some fresh roses and Lilies growing.I showed to Franco the small purple iris plants which planted last year and they were starting to bloom. We also had daffodil,dahlia,etc. I told him about some rare flowers like Anguloa Uniflora, Floxglove,craddle orchids and few other of plants and he tried to grasp the information and said, 

"Wow you know so much about gardening."

"I have always loved plants,many of them I planted myself from my childhood till now. I love to have varieties of them in my garden and during spring this once looked like heaven."

I said,imagining the fragrance and view of this place during spring.

"The weather is good today, it's snowing now.Do you want to take a drive to enjoy the the great Christmas day?"

Franco asked. Yes I wanted to go with him but what if I was needed in the house and my father would be angry if he found me missing. 

"Yeah I want to but I don't think we can go now as my mother would be needing for the preparation of eve."

I felt bad,rejecting when he actually asked for the first time. 

"Never mind,we can go some other time."

said Franco. 

We went back inside and headed toward our respective rooms. The party will start at six in the evening and it was just eleven now. I was bored just roaming around in my room and regretted,not going with Franco. I decided to take a nap and it took me half an hour of struggling to finally fall asleep.
I was awaken by the knock on the door I noticed time,it was already two, I thought everyone must have had their lunch by this time,who could it be.I got up from the bed sleepily and reached the door rubbing my eyes,slightly shocked by discovering Franco on door he smiled and asked, 

"Did I disturb your sleep?"

"No,not a problem. Do you need something?"

I asked.

"No, you were just missing during lunch and I was bored without anyone's company, so I thought why not go to you."

"Oh! yeah, you are welcome."

I opened door for him and he entered my room for the first time. 

"Do you read these books?"

He asked noticing my book shelf. 

"Yeah I like reading especially sci-fi books."

I said. 

"I read a few books and I do like reading but don't get enough time for it under the burden of being future alpha."

He said with somewhat guilt in his voice and then smiled. oh! he looks so hot when he smiles.

We talked about books and his favourite movies which informed that he too is a big sci-fi fan and most of the movies we loved were common. 
We sat on my bed and he told me about events of his childhood. When he first held a gun and his hands shook a drilling machine,he got beaten up by his dad for failing on hitting his target which was a living human. I felt bad for him. He was just 15 when this happened.
I told him about my birthdays and how Cindy never leaves a chance to make them special since we were child and how we have grown together.
We talked and talked,laughed together and the  time passed it was already fou and we did not realise that we have spent so much time chatting. 
My mom came to inform, 

"You should get ready now, we have to go to the party."

Then she noticed Franco and asked, 

"You needed something?You should have came to me."

She said in an overly concerned voice. Stop acting for once,mom!

"No, I was just bored so came to get her company."

Franco said. 

"Oh! then it's good."

she replied and left after asking us to get ready fast. 

"So,bye for now.See at the hallway."

He grinned and left.

Layla and George were sitting backstage and lunch was nearly over. The students already left the standup comedy event, making their way towards class. Layla was given the results of the polls.
"The favourite always wins, huh?" said George
"I still don't think it's good enough" said Layla looking at the results "He's not going to give up easily, he knows he can't win unless he changes the rules."
"You're right, it's too naive to think we can just ignore him. This election is going to be different, so either I adapt or lose. I think I'll have to play by his rules, sooner rather than later." said George
"We're going to have to change the entire speech then" said Layla
"Yes. He must be certain I won't ever play the policy game until it's too late. This will be the perfect time for a sucker punch." said George getting up preparing to leave to class.

"Don't forget tomorrow 4pm sharp for the cover" said Layla
"Are you sure it's okay" said George
"The vice principal said you can't talk to the media, she didn't say anything about being on the cover of a magazine. The worst that'll happen is a warning - it's technically her fault for not being explicitly clear." said Layla
"Okay" said George as the two smiled at each other.

The fourth period had started and there were some students in P.E.. As they were setting up the volleyball nets some of them began gossiping about the elections.
"Did you see the polls?" said one of them as if shocked
"Yeah, what's the big deal, everyone knew George was going to win anyway" said another
"I know, I'm talking about how Leon has less votes than the number of people that abstained." continued the first student
"I'm secretly hoping for an upset, I want Sinclair to win" said another student
"What? Why? I want Leon to win, he's actually trying to make changes" said another one holding a basket of volleyballs
"ATM machines? Really? When's the last time you thought 'Oh, I could really use an ATM machine right now' while in school" said the one supporting Sinclair
"Come on, the food is trash here and every time we order takeaway, I'm always short on cash and the deliverers never take credit. And screw the ATMs, I want tablets instead of carrying five bricks for books around - I hear schools in the south* are already doing it" said the Leon supporter
"It doesn't matter if they're great ideas, he doesn't have the power to make them happen - Vivian might've been joking today, but he's right, empty promises don't mean anything" said the first student
"Well I don't care who wins, this is just fun. It's only the first day and everyone's talking about the election. I'm so excited for tomorrow's speeches." said another student

A flying volleyball is suddenly served in the direction of the group of gossiping students. They all turn their heads around afraid.
"Stop messing around!" commanded Jessica Twint - the captain of the girl volleyball team.
They quickly scurried to continue setting up the net and one them whispered fearfully to the others
"But I feel like if we don't vote for Jessica, she'll kill us" causing the others to snicker slightly.

In between the fourth and fifth class, Leon was called to the Vice Principal's office. Leon knocked on the door and then heard a 'come in' from Elizabeth. As he entered the bright white room with modern art glass pieces scattered around he noticed a tidy Elizabeth with her glasses looking straight at him with a cold expressionless stare. Her office was a minimalist design that looked like it came straight out of a sci-fi movie.
"Well?" said Elizabeth to Leon
"Well what?" said Leon confused, yet half aware of why he was called to her office.
"The placement of the white board at the entrance, the timing of producing the crowd, the chants - every little thing was done on purpose Leon. And don't think it went unnoticed." said Elizabeth with a stern look
"I said at the beginning of this election, I will not play favorites. One more stunt like that, and I will not hesitate to suspend you. The setting up such an inconvenience at school and without permission, blocking a fire exit and disturbing the peace, these are punishable offenses. So detention for you after school today." she continued quickly dismissing Leon with a sharp wave of her hand.

Although Leon expected this kind of reaction from Elizabeth, he didn't think she would be this tough on him. It made one thing clear, although she works for the Cottonwoods, he won't be receiving any special treatment. Leon notices a glass framed photo of his grandmother on Elizabeth's wall.
"Why did my grandmother choose Jessica?" said Leon to Elizabeth refusing to leave just yet.

Elizabeth looks at the photo that Leon was staring at, then looks back at Leon.
"Leon. I've already dismissed you, get back to class." she said
"How can she not pick her own grandson?" said Leon persistently

Elizabeth shakes her head and decides to humor Leon just this once.
"Do you really think winning this election is her plan A against the royalist? Your grandmother is so ruthless because she attacks an enemy on several fronts, without expending too much energy. On the list of importance, winning this election would something of a Plan E."

Despite being the son of two of the most powerful politicians in the country, Leon never cared greatly for politics. Until his father is suddenly arrested midway through his campaign. Leon, acting out with revenge and worry, finds himself in the middle of one of the greatest political rivalries in history.

Yeah, he was really flying! The old man, floating in the air a meter from the ground, wearing daily modern clothes and also with cute kitty ears.

"You called me, senior?" Yun gave the safest answer to this flying cat-eared man, whom he didn't know how to call.

"Hmm. Do you live here?"

Yun answered with a pokerface, "Yes, Senior. I live and work in this city. Do you have a request?"

Despite the funny appearance of the old man, he shamelessly walked towards Yun. Oh no, pardon! He flew towards Yun.

As they got closer, Yun began to see things more clearly. The old man had a little girl on his back. She was a 5-6 year old sweety and she was looking around with interest. The important detail was this child was also wearing the same "cute cat ears" the old man wore.

"These days, I'm planning to travel around here with my granddaughter. But we'r looking for a comfortable place to rest, also somewhere we can eat and drink easily. Ah lastly, a place which we wouldn't be disturbed. 

I've been in meditation for a long time. This city changed a lot. Would you describe me the closest and most beautiful place we can go?"

Damn old man. You clearly want a cafe, don't you! If you don't know "cafe" then...

Yun suddenly looked at the people who kept walking around them, as well as other normal humans walking far away. They didn't show any interest or signs of seeing this flying man!

Indeed, like in da books, normal people could not see this old wizard!

"Senior. When I want to relax, I usually go to the little café at the beginning of this street. I drink tea of that place. "Its name is Central Perk*. They make the best tea and coffee in the Changzhou. It is clean and quiet. Ah also there is free wifi."

The old man gladly nodded his head. But with a sudden thought he became angry. "I don't like free stuff! What is wifi and why is it being given free. Is it something bad to taste?"

Haaaa... Yun's brain suddenly got an enlightenment.

 God damn it!!! How many years were you closed up to cultivation old man! Or what da fuck its name in magic society! Is it "magic cultivation", "magical evolution", "magic development"-they all sound awful...

Yun sighed and gathered all the information about the technology and its development over the past 20 years inside his head. Lately, he had seen so many famous people making Tedx talks or similar things. So he was more comfortable and knowledgeable about making a speech. He was ready to begin his speech with a happy hearth. Finally his hard work would make a good result..


"Wait it is just a joke! I know what wifi is. I fooled you, young magician. I've been in the cultivation for the past week, I obviously know what wifi is. You thought I have been in cultivation for years right? Hahaha..."

Yun didn't know what to do between crying and laughing. With the old man's smile, his granddaughter also began laughing. The two seemed to get along very well.

"Anyway, forgive me for tricking you. I will check that cafe!

The old man flew so fast that his voice left a strange echo in the air. It was a ridiculous and unexpected experience.

"After I became a little magician, these magicians think me as one of them, and they treat me very closely. 

I can finally see that, I lived in a very strange world for many years and didn't see all these bullshit."

Yun walked for ten minutes to enter the library.

 Just as he was about to enter, he saw a fairly large crowd running into the library. These people with cameras and microphones barricaded in front of the front doors and sent a few people in.

Yun didn't mind and walked in quietly.

He went upstairs after giving his books with his id from an automatic machine.  After going to the highest floor he started to check out books and find something interesting. This floor had the oldest and most scientific materials in the library. So Yun just started to walk between thick book shelves. 

Actually new libraries or new systems in almost every libraries were againts this old shelves. There would be computers in the ground floors and people would check the books in their interest from those machines. 

But Yun didn't know what to expect or read nowadays. So he had to walk randomly and hope to find something interesting. 

He was alone in this section. Even his footsteps were loud.

This place was very huge. Also it was the place which has the very technical books in it. There was no reason for normal casual readers to to come here, as well as normal students and employees wouldn't even come to this floor.

Yun quietly started to look at the topics or titles of books. In some cases he just read a page or looked at inside of scientific magazines. In some magazines there were famous people's faces on them. 

  After a while, he forgot where he was and then began to compare Kelewan and the deficiencies there and the books here.

He took up matters of every aspect, as if he was an important scientist who was starting a large technological project. Yun thought and wiped some of his ideas off from the idea pool. He also didn't take the books of the difficult subjects. The easy things were just perfect for the current Kelewan which has a low technology level.

The end result was really humiliating. The two last project were just "toilet construction" and "simple plantation".

If only a little modern touch would come to a magical world, Yun could only go on with these two issues.

 Unlike "sci-fi or fantasy novels" which people really like to read nowadays, doing something from nothing was almost impossible. Even the cement project was purely thanks to their luck. In this stage, more research was needed for every basic issue.

"Hey .." A small whisper could be heard from behind him. Soft and skinny hand touched his shoulder. Yun raised his hands and threw up his fists to air. He threw down the books to the ground without thinking.

"COME!!!"

He was ready to punch or just defend againts evil or joker magicians. Half an hour ago, after that funny old guy, Yun was a little paranoiac.


But she was just a teenager common across the streets. She had a stylish hat on her head, a slim blouse on top and a mini short under her. She was defenseless and fragile. Even the girl was afraid with Yun's punches and sudden scary reaction.

"..."

Yun reached for his books on the ground, while eliminating the fists he just showed. He also tried to apologize. "I'm sorry. I'm very full these days. Sometimes I even forget where I am." The words spilled quickly, and Yun looked into her eyes while waiting.

His anticipated eyes patiently waited for the girl to say what she was gonna say at first. But the girl was hesitating and weighing Yun through her eyes .

"I guess I scared you. It's okey if you don't want to tell me something anymore.  Well, see you and sorry again."

Yun turned around, thinking she was scared, and walked with books he decided to borrow for this week. Also he remembered the usb Wang Meng gave him. Tonight he decided to check what strange porn or movie was inside it. After the game surprise, he lost all the probabilities of magic related secrets.


He was sighing because of that fake game surprise, when he heard the girl who ran after him. 

Something strange's going to happen, right? Probably this girl was a sorceress or the last survivor of a sect who was in trouble..etc.

Yun suddenly filled with expectation. It was normal as he began to see sorcerers lately. But when he turned around, he saw the girl was taking out her phone as stick it out of her pocket.

"Can I add you in Wechat?"

Ha! This girl confess to me, Na-a impossible?

Yun was instantly got excited. For the first time a girl was finally approaching him. He just thought of all the bad possibilities. But he never thought of the possibility of love.

"Also, would you like to spend some time with me tonight... Of course, If you don't have anything to do?"

HA!!!!

Yun was dying of excitement. His brain and mouth were not working at that moment of surprise.

Yun looked at the books in his own hands then his body under the gaze of a cute girl. He even chected the way she looks and double checked she was talking with him(?)


"With me! Are you sure?"

Without any friends, without laughter at all, and I'm sure I've never been loved.

Though that was mainly due to its experience and multiple encounters of the absurd he had previously experienced from other candidates, there were things much more absurd that other candidates had asked or requested before.

'You can certainly become the cutest in the Omniverse, but unfortunately, the points required is higher than what you have and is actually even higher than what any other candidate had ever received.'

His enthusiasm did not decrease despite being told so as he only wanted to confirm the possibility as he wasn't stupid as to think that becoming the cutest was so simple.

"I'm alright with that, but before anything else can you elaborate on things like what world I would be going to, or would I also be able to choose it? Also, I'd like to ask how we would be sent into the world, will we be sent as a newborn or an adult? Can we choose what race we can become, also can we..." question after question was asked not about the abilities and powers he would be able to purchase but about the details on the world he would be going to and the procedures before going.

He knew that abilities, powers, and skills were the most important when going to another world since the majority of protagonists in these types of stories are unfamiliar with hardships and would have immense difficulty adjusting to such a different environment where death is extremely common, though he was imagining typical fantasy worlds with medieval level of technology and human rights, but he knew that the second most important thing was the beginning, where everything starts.

Of the novels he's read, part of them would have the protagonist start in a favorable situation or location such as in the middle of a field with a road leading to a nearby city, or starting off as the child of noble, or even just having overpowered abilities at the start. The other part would be the novels he actually enjoys such as evolution novels where the protagonists start off as the weakest and useless of monsters and have to fight their way through life-threatening monsters to reach the top to survive.

With his experience in reading all those novels, he had asked all those questions and started formulating a plan on how to take advantage of the start of his new life. Midway through his question, the being had interrupted him with an answer he should have expected if he had remembered what they had said near the start.

'Candidate should be pleased to know that all that you have asked is possible due to being included as what you are able to purchase, we understand the importance to the start of your new life and also the reluctance to spend your points on a seemingly temporary thing such as your beginnings.

'We have thus decided to gift a budget of points to all candidates to be spent on the world you desire, how you would be transferred such as becoming a newborn as keeping your current body, the state of your physical being such as being young or old, and the location you would be transferred at, you may also choose the general circumstances of your birth, such as being born into a wealthy or poor family.

'Things such as becoming other races will also be supported by the budget as we do not wish to limit our candidates, and of course, you may use your own points outside of the budget if needed'

His mind was racing as he was thinking of a million things confirming that there were little to no limitations on what he could choose, so he went for the classics.

"Okay then... can you find me a world where it is multiple times the size of the earth and has technology and magic mixed in to create magitech? So kinda like a sci-fi slash fantasy world with monsters and space exploration..."

'Multiple worlds of the description have been found and before you can ask, I am not allowed to reveal the number of worlds of that description due to the rules, at this point you are able to randomize the selection and the world chosen will be locked in. You are also able to add on more points if you were to randomize you would be using 13% of your allocated budget'

13% was still an acceptable amount so he decided to add more details.

"Uhm... Alien civilizations are common?"

'22%, possible worlds have been reduced by 64%'

It was a little surprising that just adding that would increase the cost by 9% and decrease the number of possible worlds by two thirds, but he didn't plan to adjust it as he didn't want to be limited to one world, that was also the reason why he had wanted his starting world to be bigger than the earth.

"Speaking of which, what's the size of the smallest world in amongst all of them if you can tell me?"

'It is 2.032 times bigger than the earth as I assumed on your behalf when you said multiple times bigger'

"Still too small for my liking... Increase it to a minimum of... 3.5 times?" He asked unsurely, though he wanted to go to other planets, he wanted to train himself on his home planet first by experiencing every inch of it.

'Cost increased to 24.5%, possible worlds reduced by an additional 7%'

Luckily it seems like size doesn't matter too much when it comes to selecting a world. Not wanting to spend any more of his free budget of points, he decided to stop there and randomize the world.

"You can go ahead and randomize now...please lady luck...don't screw me over..." While praying to the mischievous god of luck, he hoped that the world he was going too didn't have any unexpected variables, like if the only sapient creatures on his home planet were goblins, he didn't want to conform to goblins definition of cute!

He had slightly regretted not adding the detail that humans are one of the main sapient creatures as he had stupidly assumed that every world would have one, but it was too late now as a big 'Randomizing World...' was seen on his middle monitor.

After a tense couple of seconds which felt like forever, A big blue and green planet that looked totally different from earth appeared on his monitor, it had many more continents than the earth with most of them being even larger than the ones on earth, along with a countless number of islands that covered the planets like pimples.

The two other screens on the monitor lit up as it showed the statistics of the world such as being called Vanterio being 5.49 times bigger than the earth, the major countries in the world, the basic history of the world that even a child would understand and other tidbits of useful information.

It also showed the sapient races in the world which included humans and... humans and...?

On the list that stated 'Sapient Races' there was only one line which said humans, though he was extremely relieved that he didn't get an unexpected race, as even becoming an elf or dwarf would have been fine, he still wanted a diverse number of sapient races since he had asked for a fantasy mixed with sci-fi world.

As if reading his thoughts, the otherworldly being spoke up. 'Sadly, since you did not specify on other races being included, or any race for that matter, I had included worlds that had one main race. The candidate should know that despite the fantasy genre including other races as the norm, fantasy is a much more broad term than that and thus did not affect the search results too much.

He flinched upon hearing so, thinking back on it he has read tons and tons of fantasy books where humans were the only race, such as a novel set in the modern-day where people suddenly get magic powers. He sighed from his blunder and could only plan to be more careful in his wording next time.

'While all I have said is unchangeable, It does not mean that there are no other sapient races in your world, as the information you see is only the basic complementary information we are obliged to provide, and you are able to gain more by spending more of your budget.'

"Wait, so you're saying that other races may exist but they're hidden? Like living in closed-off communities or obscure places?" His eyes turned wide as a bit of hope returned to him as the words reached him.

'Emphasis on 'may exist' as there is still a possibility that they do not, would you be willing to spend some points to find out?'

Though he really wanted to know if other races existed, he didn't want to waste his precious free points and also thought it could be fun if he discovered them on his own rather than cheating.

"No thanks, now let's move on to the next thing, I want to become a newborn in Alcavia, with my parents decently rich and influential, with my gender being female, like as female as possible!!" He increased his volume when asking to be born female to emphasize the importance of that criterion.

Alcavia was an isolated continent and country with a decent distance from other continents and is also renowned for being the most diverse and magitechnologically advanced country in the world due to the greatest minds in the world gathering there.

'From your description, I have set a criterion for your family member to be in the upper-middle-class in relation to Alcavia as a working-class Alcavian citizen could easily become an upper-middle-class citizen in the majority of the world.' 

"I knew it was a great country from the basic information but wow... that puts things in perspective, the cost should be a lot then, how much would it be inclusive of what I already used?" 

'A total of 117.13% of the budget would be used which would exceed the allocated budget, you are able to supplement the exceeded amount with 1.93% 'of your normal points'

"No thanks, I wouldn't even use 0.1% of my normal points no matter the situation, lets compromise and have you decrease the criterion so the range is from the lowest point of the spectrum of the upper-middle-class and above until the budget used reaches 90%"  

'You are of the majority that refuses to use your normal points for your beginnings so I can understand, for your new criterion, I have adjusted it accordingly and there are much fewer results from before'

"Lowest point of the spectrum or not, it's still upper-middle-class, now for the last 10% of my budget... I'd like loving, kind and unrestrictive parents, as much as 10% allows." The reason he wanted that criterion was not due to his previous upbringing. While his parents may not have been the most loving or kind, they properly did their jobs and parents and cared for him a good amount, and he had properly respected and appreciated their effort to raise him, even if he could not say that he loved them very much.

He added that criterion as he wanted to be unrestricted in his actions in his new like and wanted a loving family that properly appreciated a cute little girl, as that was his destiny, nothing will change it. 

'Criterion has been added, would you like to randomize now?'
