Natsu was at the Kenjutsu Club Room as he had a bandage on his cheek from his duel against Kyria a few days back
The man cracks his neck around as he rubs his neck before going back to his reading
"geez, I still can't believe that you were holding back the whole time" Mira said eating her lunch as the result of Natsu's battle against Kyria ended in his victory and Kyria losing her title as an Empress "do you ever go full out?"
"if I did, the school and everyone in it would be melted and burned to the ground" Natsu said as he reads his book before closing it and sigh "and besides, who would go out on a mere hatchling?"
"I see your point there" Erza said holding a cup of tea
"but that battle style of yours. Do you have a specific battle style?" Kagura asked
"I don't" Natsu replied as he drinks his cup of tea before being poured more by Ikaruga "I go with the flow; swords, firearms, magic, anything that can be use as a weapon I can use"
"a force to be reckon" Éclair said smiling
"seems so" Ikaruga added in
"now that Kyria lost her title as an Empress, things at school been peaceful for some reason" Ultear said with a smile "I guess Kyria's defeat inflicted a positive impact"
"um" Lucy voiced out as she had been quiet in the conversation until now "it's good and all that you won against Kyria-senpai, but…."
Lucy looks quite frantic as she wore some sort of highly ranked military uniform on "why did you pick me as the new Empress?!"
"there were no one else" Natsu said closing his left eye "Éclair is not one fit for battle if she got challenged as an Empress, and I don't know anyone else who should become an Empress"
"so are you saying that I'm the last choice?" Lucy said as Natsu nodded
"something like that" Natsu replied as Lucy cried in tears
"why did I even ask?" Lucy whined
"just deal with it, being an Empress isn't hard at all" Mira said taking a sip of her tea "all you have to do is just be the leader of your club and that's all"
"that is just your thinking" Kagura stated "being an Empress and a leader of a club is no easy task"
"that's how I do it every single day" Mira said taking a bite of her rice
"and that's why only a few Empress always goes to the meeting" Erza said sighing
"what meeting?" Natsu asked curious
"well, if there are any School Events, or anything related to the school, the Seven Empress will always hold a meeting for it" Ultear explained to him "in this case, for the coming Cultural Festival"
"the only members that comes to the meeting are me, Kagura, Minerva, Ikaruga, and Ultear. Mira and Kyria always never comes" Erza said sighing before rubbing her forehead "this is why there is so much paperwork because of them"
"we expect you to come, Lucy. You're a new Empress so you have to take full responsibility of your new title" Kagura said as she had a serious stare "or you'll regret ever becoming one"
"y-Yes!" Lucy exclaimed with a salute while inside she was crying "but I never wanted to become one!"
"speaking of festival, what's this about Class Projects? I heard something of Maid, Game or something" Natsu asked as he sips his tea before sighing "some sort of tradition"
"nearly the same" Mira said "each time there is a Cultural Festival, each class have to held up any type of event they want, this also helps you gain a rank up in the Final Advancement Exam"
"hmmm" Natsu hummed in amusement as he sips his tea
"didn't we already told you the last time?" Lucy asked
Natsu hummed as he rubs his chin trying to remember but the only thing that he remembered was reading his book
"guess I forgot" Natsu said as Lucy sighs
"in note to your forgetfulness, everyone in class had already decided the theme event" Lucy said as Natsu looks to her and raised an eyebrow "it's going to be a Maid Café"
"why does it sound like there is more to it?" Ultear asked as Lucy nodded
"it was set for the Maid Café, but since I got picked as the head of the preparation and I'm now a Empress, it's going to be a hard task for me to do both" Lucy said crossing her hands and sigh "it's already hard being the head of the class preparation but there's still going to be the meeting of the Empresses"
"then how about leave it to me?" Natsu said as everyone looks to him "I'll take care of the Empress Meeting. you just take care of the Class Cultural Preparation"
"I don't think you can do that, it's called an 'Empress' Meeting, that means it's only members of the Seven Empress" Mira said
"forgot who I am?" Natsu asked with a small smirk
"Dragon Emperor, Salamander" Ultear said smiling
"correct" Natsu said "I don't give a damn of the rules, rules are meant to be broken in the first place"
"right about that" Mira said with a grin
 
School was soon over as some students went home while some stayed behind to prepare for the coming Cultural Festival
Natsu's copies were helping the class and the clubs while the original was in a meeting with the Empress
 
In a grand room where there are seven seats around as all current members of the Empress took their seat with the exceptions of one that is Natsu
"what is the meaning of this?" Minerva said sitting on her seat and had her arms and legs crossed in a superior like stance "why is this man here?"
"I have a name" Natsu said, sitting in his seat while reading his book with a cup of tea on a table beside him "and that is the Dragon Emperor, Salamander"
"you, you dare to show yourselves here?" Minerva asked as her eyes keen at Natsu
"I could ask the same to you" Natsu said closing his book with his eyes closed before opening "miss. Cooking Club Leader"
"you! Why do you!?" Minerva exclaimed while her cheeks were a bit red
"how do I know? It's simply because I'm also a member of your club, Minerva Orland" Natsu said "being absent of your own club can cause some mistrust with your members, you know?"
Minerva gritted her teeth as she glared at Natsu
"enough" Erza said as she sat in her seat "we are here to discuss the coming Cultural Festival, not bicker against one another"
"you took his side, Scarlet? I guess a weak dog sticks to their master" Minerva said smirking
"say what you want" Erza said closing her eyes "I stick with those who truly cherish friendship, unlike you"
"ho?" Minerva said in amusement
"ahem! now that we are all acquainted with each other, let's begin the meeting" Kagura said as she wore some glasses on
"don't those look nice on you?" Natsu complimented her with a smile
"r-really?" Kagura said blushing a bit to the compliment
"yes, it brings more charm to you" Natsu said smiling a bit
"i-I see!" Kagura said as Erza and Mira's eyebrows twitched a bit
Papers floated around as a few pages floated in front of them all
"just like the last meeting; security division, and field Maintenance division are still empty slots" Erza said wearing some glasses on
"what are the divisions that are already taken?" Natsu asked as he looks at the pages
"budgeting, accounting, and Hospitality" Mira answered while wearing some glasses
"since when you were glasses?" Erza said seeing Mira with glasses
"my eyesight is getting bad these days" Mira answered as Erza squinted her eyes
"I'm guessing that Erza took the Budgeting, Kagura on the accounting, the Hospitality?" Natsu said before looking to either Minerva, Ikaruga, Ultear, and Mira "who?"
"me" Ikaruga said with a hand raise
"why am I not surprised?" Natsu said with a chuckle as he looks at the pages and his eyes scanned the content "I'll take them all"
"excuse me?" Minerva said "you? Take all the leftover divisions? How gloating"
"you'll be surprised on how he divides himself during the festival, Minerva" Ultear said with a smile as Minerva squinted her eyes at Ultear
"appreciate on the self-Volunteering, but are you sure you can handle this much?" Kagura asked "even for you, this might be a stressful job"
"I'll help on the Security Division" Mira said "having more hands is better"
"thanks" Natsu said while looking at the pages
"then I'll help on the Maintenance Division" Ultear said volunteering to help Natsu
"ok, but just for a few hours at the most. We have a scheduled performance for the swimming club after all" Natsu said as he took off his glasses and cleans them a bit
"I'm amazed that you remembered the entire schedule," Ikaruga said as Natsu drinks his cup of tea which was brewed by her
"goes to show that he's an Emperor after all" Mira said grinning
 
Night soon came as the school was still filled with some students who are staying behind to prepare for the coming festival
Natsu was at the school track field as he watched some clubs preparing for a play or something on the built stage
"a play, huh?" Natsu said as he crossed his arms while watching some students doing a rehearsal act on the stage
Demonic Natsu soon appeared as he floats around in the air
"bored?" Natsu said sensing his other self's appearance
"in a way" Demonic Natsu said floating around, minding his own business
"you've been rather dormant ever since I defeated Kyria a few days back, why?" Natsu asked as he took a glance at his Demonic Self who floats around before disappearing
"not talkative like usual, huh?" Natsu thought before he started walking away
 
Natsu walks around in the school as he yawned form the fact that it was night and some students were going to sleep in for the night
Tomorrow is Saturday, so there is no school. A perfect opportunity to practice hard for the coming Cultural Festival
"Happy should be asleep by now" Natsu said thinking of what his pet cat might be doing at the time
As Natsu walks around, he bumps into Minerva as he was about to run the corner
"you, huh?" Natsu said as Minerva's eyes keened on him "staying tonight, Tigress?"
"why do you want to know?" Minerva retorted in a harsh tone before turning to leave
As Minerva walks away, Natsu noticed that she had a pink towel wrapped up with strings in her hand
"nice apron, just went out of the Cooking club?" Natsu said as Minerva stops in her tracks, and Natsu could tell that she had an embarrassed blush on her face "making a late-night snack? Or simply something else?"
"s-silence!" Minerva exclaimed as she walked off away
Natsu chuckled as he looks amused by her reaction
"I'm starting to act like him" Natsu said as he walks to the corner hallway
 
Natsu went to the library as it was quiet and no one other than him was in there
He leans against his chair as he holds up his book above him while he reads
"peace and quiet" Natsu muttered out as he reads his book while flipping a page
An hour in the library, Natsu closed his book as he had finished reading it to the whole pages
"I need to get a new book after the festival" Natsu said rubbing the bridge of his nose before yawning
Natsu closed his eyes as he looks to what his copies were doing, and sure enough, everyone with them had went home or sleep in the school
"the Dance Club will have some people, better go to the Kenjutsu Club where there's only Ikaruga there" Natsu said as he stood up from his seat and stretched his hands up before to the side
He walked out of his seat as he was going to head to the Kenjutsu Club room
As Natsu was about to reach the door, he sensed a presence
He took a glance behind as he saw a shadow in the corner of his eyes
"who is here?" Natsu spoke out turning towards the shadow as it runs to the corner
Natsu looks at where the shadow was as he went to investigate
Going to the corner of the library, Natsu stealthily went to check
He quickly turns as he finds Happy scratching the wooden shelves
"you" Natsu said sighing as he grabs Happy and carries him up before scratching its head "you got out again, huh?"
Happy meowed as the feline purred to Natsu's scratches
"it's already night and by the time we get back home, it's going to be morning" Natsu said as Happy climbed up to his shoulder "let's go and get some sleep, alright?"
Happy meowed in response as Natsu went out of the library without knowing that he was being watched in the shadow
Two glowing red eyes appeared in the shadows before it disappeared
"….Natsu…sama…."

Making his way along the dark, half-flooded underground passage, Doom clutched the rubber boots he'd stolen at a flea market with both hands to keep them on.
"You couldn't care less about your appearance, but you still do your best to keep yourself clean," Robin said from a deep armchair.
Anastasia was warming a small teapot on a hot plate.
They used the small room, a former boiler closet Robin had transformed into a movie theater, as their hiding place. As it was somewhat elevated above the rest of the basement, it wasn't flooded, though the way there was blocked by intricate black-magic traps in addition to the water. When they went there the first time (prompted by Robin, who claimed there was an untold treasure of knowledge waiting at the finish line), Alexander had literally gotten in over his head destroying other people's spells.
"What are we watching today?" Robin clicked the remote control, scrolling down the virtually endless list of movies. "Titanic? Les Miserables? Hachiko?"
The hot plate Anastasia pottered around stood on a wood stub. The halved log served as a table. Meanwhile, the giant, almost 80-inch TV screen was connected to…a dozen potatoes and forty oranges pierced with wires.
Needless to say, the potatoes and oranges were enchanted. By Anastasia. That kind of magic was too fine for Robin, and Alex was just learning how to use it. Anastasia was teaching him.
If Professor Raewsky had known Anastasia (Nastya, as he called her) did that, he…
He'd probably have praised her first. And then he would have burned the whole basement down.
The main rule at Follen School was: no technology.
Coal heating. No electricity. A Faraday cage inside the walls to fully block off wireless signals coming in from outside.
No web access.
No magic lenses.
How did Robin get the TV and hot plate in here? That was a riddle Alexander struggled to solve.
"The Pianist, maybe?"
"The Pianist? Are you crazy, wifey? The basement's already flooded. When the wonder kid sees The Pianist, it'll be like drowning inside the Titanic. I'm not DiCaprio, and I'll be able to get on the raft, but…"
"You think Hachiko would be less emotional?"
"The kid is a total cat person. He'll just giggle at a great comedy like that."
"No. The Pianist."
To emphasize that it was her final word, Anastasia dropped a tray with three plain tin mugs on the log table. Delicious vapor came from the strong black tea with lemon and sugar. A weird but tasty drink.

Mara wondered how someone could drink that much without getting drunk. Professor Dumsky was already pouring a glass from his third bottle of whiskey, and his rhythm remained perfect. There was not a single false note as his fingers glided over the keys just as smoothly, shedding invisible blood.

"That's it. Just a bit slower," Anastasia said again. "Don't hurry. Feel the rhythm."
In the middle of the vast dark hall with curtained-off windows, a little boy and a tall, beautiful girl from the icy lands of northern Russia were playing a grand piano.
Anastasia was playing it, actually. Alexander was just learning.
For the second straight week.
But he could at least play a small, two-act piece.
"Oh, Sasha, I don't know. Honestly."
"Is there anything you don't know, Anastasia?"
"Sure. Why so surprised?"
"Um…" The boy was embarrassed. "I don't know. I always used to think you knew everything. Not like Robin."
"Hey!" came an indignant echo from the far corner. "I'm right here."
"I know," Dumsky teased.
Anastasia laughed and patted the boy's hair down. Unlike her boyfriend, she never ruffled it.
Alexander hated having his hair ruffled.
"No one in the world can know everything, Sasha."
"Even Professor Raewsky?"
A heavy silence fell on the room. It was so heavy that the black curtains covering the old stained-glass windows felt like spider silks or flying fluff in comparison.
"Not even him, wonder kid. Not even him. Okay, let's move on to the third part."
"Great!"

"May the Serpent guide you through the sands, Farrokh."
"Loki by your hearth, Robin. Who's that hiding behind your back?"
"I'm not hiding!"
"He isn't."
"Oh, I beg my pardon then, monsieur, for daring to disrespect you. Would you care to share your good name?"
"Alexander Dumsky."
"What a brave name. Like a general."
"Don't tell me you knew Alexander the Great."
"What if I do?"
"Then you're a liar."
"Why?"
"Because you're no more than four hundred years old. Sure, you're really old even though you pretend otherwise, but that's not old enough to have met Alexander the Great. He lived much earlier."
"Wow."
"You can call him wonder kid, Farrokh. When he grows up, he's going to beat every single member of the club."
"Even you, Robin?"
"Pffft, I'll be first. Actually, I'm here for a drink and to enlist Alexander in the organization. But I don't see you letting me get started with either."
"You're his guarantee?"
"Yes."
"It looks like this young genius is the only Follen student you brought here."
"The others—"
"…are hurting cats! And Robin won't let me curse them."
"Enough of your cursing. Jessie already spent six weeks in the hospital."
"That's because you stepped in. I'd have had him there for sixteen."
"Oh Serpent. Who did you bring us, Robin Loxley?"
"Oh, Farrokh, if you only knew. If you only knew."

"The Robin Loxley & Alexander Dumsky spacecraft embarks on a long voyage across the ether ocean, sails filling out—"
"The Treasure Planet had ships," the boy interrupted. "Not spacecraft."
"It's descending from the stratosphere." Robin reached for the boy to pull him down off his shoulders, but Alexander clenched his legs tighter around Robin's neck. Robin snorted. "Then stop arguing."
Anastasia was putting out sandwiches on the tablecloth as her men peered up at the starry heavens.
Dumsky loved the night sky over the manor lost somewhere in the Myers City suburbs. It looked like the curtain in the piano hall, the one pierced by needles in multiple places and then illuminated from the other side with stage lights of all different colors.
The way they did it at the Abyss.
But Anastasia wasn't supposed to hear that.
Not the part about the sky, of course, but about the Abyss. About Robin taking him there.
Anastasia would have killed him.
"Dinner's ready," the witch called over.
"Let's go, wonder kid." Robin started for the tablecloth.
They were having a picnic that beautiful summer night while the other ten Follen students were snoring peacefully in their beds.
"Robin?"
"What, kid?"
"Why does no one want to make friends with me?"
Robin choked on air and almost stumbled.
"Hey, stop it. First of all, you do have two friends: me and Anastasia. And the rest…um… How should I put this?"
"Put it the way it is."
"Okay, I will. You're really weird, Alexander. Why insist on being called that, by the way? Alexander. So boring. Why not Alex? And you talk like you're as old as the Professor, not an eight-year-old kid. I won't call you a kid, though. A little nerd and Mr. Books, that's you. Nobody likes people like that. If you want to be liked, keep it simple, Alex. Comb your hair. Take a shower twice a day, not when you start smelling like your books or your cats. Wear decent clothes instead of that sack of yours. Basically, be an eight year old, not an old man trapped in a boy's body."
"So, you want me to be like you?"
"Like me?" Robin laughed. "You could hardly achieve that degree of perfection. But still, you can use my example as a reference point for your long and complicated journey from wonder kid to normal black wizard."
"So grandiose."
"Oh, and stop lecturing other people! Particularly when they're twice as old as you."

The music stopped abruptly. That seemed to wake Mara from a deep sleep.
Blood was dripping onto the keys.
That time it wasn't metaphorical blood. It was real.
And the professor was plucking the shards of his crushed glass out of his palm. Silently, without a trace of emotion on his poker face.

"Help…"
"Alex, help…"
"Sasha…"
"Alex…"
"Alex…"
"Doom…"
The little boy, chained by magic and unable to move, stood in the middle of a giant pentagram. Its twelve rays ended in stone altars, each with a human body on it.
They were all naked.
Cut up.
Disemboweled.
But still alive and able to speak.
And there was a man. The Professor in his white smock, a twisted ritual dagger carved with ancient runes and symbols in his hands.
He stepped slowly toward Alex.
"It ends. It all ends now."
But Alex wasn't looking at the Professor. He couldn't take his eyes off the hands reaching out to him.
Jessie. Patrick. Irma. Ganesh. Parfen. Idma. Hayasie. Olaf. Helen. Jessica. Barry.
Robin and Anastasia.
All Follen students.
All his friends.
They were begging for his help, and he couldn't move. He couldn't break the chains of Professor Raewsky's magic.
"It all ends now!"
Raewsky lifted his dagger over Alex's head.
"Help…"
"Save us…"
"Help…

"…help…"
Blinking, Doom woke up from his daydreams.
Alcohol, recently getting out of jail, the rush of adrenaline, and the memorable date made for a nasty cocktail.
"Can I do anything for you, Professor?"
Alex turned to see Mara Glomebood holding out a couple bandages.
"Tomorrow, 8 a. m., Magic Range One."
"Excuse me?"
"Anyone who's late will earn themselves a curse." Alex closed the piano lid, leaving a bloody handprint on it, and plodded toward the stairs.
He didn't look back.

Alexander Dumsky, or Alex Doom, was a dark wizard. At the age of seventeen, he was convicted of a litany of crimes so long that even the seasoned investigators, judges, and prosecutors involved in the case could only shudder.
Not a single attorney could be found to defend him in court.
But four years later, Alex was released from prison to become the Professor of Dark Magic. They'd thrown him into the deepest hole they could find, one built for the sole purpose of holding wizards, and then they let him back out again...
Why him? Why then?
Oh, you're not surprised to hear talk of wizardry? Well, then you probably know that the Magic Lens, which was invented in 2032, let humans see and use magic again.

Luis arrived at Jeff's place exactly at the time they had agreed on. Luis was an advent timekeeper, and he didn't like getting late, especially for important things. He rang the doorbell at Jeff's place and patiently waited. Jeff's mom was the one who answered.

"Hi, are you Luis?" she greeted him warmly and he nodded, "Welcome, Jefferson says he will be with you in a few minutes."

Luis was shown into the house and waited for Jeff at the lounge. It did not take long for Jeff to come down. He had already heard Luis ringing the doorbell and did not want to keep him waiting.

Luis was not expecting Jeff to dress like that when he descended the staircase. He had worn a pair of khaki shorts that revealed his thighs and pressed tightly against his buttocks, a slim fit pullover and hair that had been visibly applied too much blowout. He stared at him for a second before commenting.

"You appear prepared for the occasion," 
Jeff flushed a shade of red and replied, "Thank you, I like to dress according the activity."

"I didn't know the library needed such a  outrageous outfit. You look like a gay man who's desperate for sex." It was Winnie, Jeff's older sister. She had a mission of making Jeff's life miserable and wasn't hesitant to do so when the chance came. Although she was really smart, Jeff tended to call her stupid whenever she interfered with his life.

"Well this gay man might just snatch your boyfriend so watch out," Jeff retorted. Fortunately for him, his loud mouth usually had just the right answer for her whenever she was overboard. Seeing that she was defeated, she stuck her tongue out at him and went ahead to the kitchen to prepare a snack. Jeff called out to his mom to tell her that they were leaving. Jeff was about to open the door when his mother called them back.

"Don't tell me you are leaving and yet I haven't prayed for you," she excused herself.

"Mom! No!" Jeff hissed at her. His mom, on seeing that, was clearly hurt but she didn't let it show for long. Instead she kissed them both goodbye, much to the shock of Luis, and led them outside. Luis waited until they were out of earshot.

"Why didn't you want your mom praying for us?"

"Trust me. Her prayers are long enough for us to go to the library and back in the evening. She would probably have started even asking for forgiveness for the sins of the cattle you keep in your ranch," Jeff answered lightly.

"How did you know we had a ranch?" asked Luis, surprised that Jeff knew and yet he didn't tell him.

"Ummm…" Jeff stalled, looking for an excuse. "Michelle told me. She said that all the girls that were mad about you actually did a research on you."

Luis halted. All of a sudden he started laughing so hard that Jeff wondered whether he had said something wrong.

"When you find a better excuse please come and lie to me again," he told Jeff, tears in his eyes. "Everyone in school knows that I'm gay."

Jeff felt like killing himself. He had just been caught lying. Lacking another answer to give him, he shrugged his shoulders and continued the journey with his head down, too ashamed to look at Luis.

They finally arrived at the library. They entered and went ahead to the reception to pay for the entrance fee. However, they found that the secretary was not yet at her station and had to wait until she came back from wherever she was. Finally she arrived, and greeted the boys asking what she could do for them.

"We would like to access the library please," Luis replied.

The secretary looked at them sadly and told them, "I'm sorry but your reading adventure has been interrupted today. The library is closed due to a book club function. I had put it on a poster outside, but I guess someone must have ripped it off the wind could have taken it." 

Luis and Jeff looked at each other and shook their heads. That would be the only chance they had of entering the library, as during the weekdays they were usually at school and the next Saturday was too far. Jeff decided he couldn't waste his chance. He turned to the secretary. 

"Excuse me my dear. Seeing how much your beautiful here and the way that Mac lipstick is perfect on you, will you please just allow us to use the library?" He flashed a set of puppy eyes that dropped the secretary's guard. He then moved close enough to her and whispered seductively. "We have a very urgent matter that we need to find out."

Luis was astonished to see the secretary's cheeks all pink as she blushed profusely. She looked up to both of them and smiled.

"Well I suppose I could let you in. The book club function is only on the second floor. Which part of the library are you going to?"

"The history section," Jeff replied sweetly. 

"Okay, you'll go to the far end, and then you'll climb the staircase up to the third floor. After they, go to the farthest end of that hall and on the right you'll see the History section," the secretary guided them. 

"Thank you," Jeff said and winked at her, causing the secretary to fan herself with a paper. They went ahead to the staircase.

"What was that?" asked Luis, as they walked up the stairs. 

"It's some superpower of mine," Jeff replied cheekily. "I just turn on the puppy eyes and boom! Someone's under my spell. I like to call it The Charm."

"Who do you use it on?"

"I don't mostly use it, but sometimes I use it on William's secretary to get free chocolate bars from the staffroom, or on Julliana whenever I haven't done my assignments so that she could let me go," Jeff naughtily replied. 

"Oh God!" Luis remarked and they started laughing. They suddenly kept quiet when the book club came into view. They could see some of the attendees hunched up at a corner reading a book. Both boys' eyebrows Rose after realising that the book was Fifty Shades Of Grey. They then tiptoed all the way to the third floor, hoping that no one would notice them. They heaved a sigh of relief after finally reaching the third floor.

"What kind of book club reads Fifty Shades Of Grey?" Luis exclaimed as they searched for the history section. 

"I could swear that I had seen the bulges of almost twenty men in there. Are they trying to convert it into an orgy?" Jeff remarked and they giggled. 

They finally found the History section. They then got into the searching of suitable books. Luis was the first to find one.

"Hey, I think I found one," Luis called at Jeff, waving a book titled 'The Fall of Gaffernon' 

"Gaffernon?"

"Yeah, but you do Geography so you wouldn't know. Although they don't teach us that in History until Grade Eleven," Luis explained. They sat at the library desks and began perusing through the book.

"Here," Jeff pointed to a paragraph and began reading it. 

"The myth about the Expiravit of Middlewood is perhaps the most common story that is used to explain what really happened to Gaffernon at that time. It is said that a young princess from afar had come to take back the invaluable Dragon Pearl Necklace from the then Queen, Gaia Smith. It is said that she was caught stealing it, and opted to jump out of the window rather than be locked in the dungeons. It is that fall that led to her death with spears piercing through her body. However a few days later, the King and Queen were reported to be missing, with nothing but blood stains on their bedroom. It was perceived that the princess had come back for her revenge, thus she earned the name Expiravit, Latin for 'ghost'. However, it is unclear what had happened the day of the disappearance, and after the people had shifted to the democratic government they opted to change the castle into something more appropriate and useful for the town, thus it was converted to a school, Algernon High, or what is known nowadays, Arabella Academy."

"Wait, so you mean I have been learning in a century-old castle?!" Jeff exclaimed.

"Could be even three centuries, it was a castle for the ruling families of Gaffernon," answered Luis.

"At this rate I might even find our house is older than that school."

They were interrupted by the sound of three people rushing from the stairs into their floor. They were two boys and a girl. Luis and Jeff instantly recognised them from Panterbaker High. They rushed to hide behind a bookshelf and watched silently as the three made their way into the corner. Then to Jeff and Luis' complete dismay, they began kissing and fondling each other as the two boys placed the girl on the table. Luis was further shocked when Jeff took out his phone and began recording the three, he gave him a shove and dragged him silently to the stairs where they eventually left, but not after a resistance from Jeff who wanted to get more footage of the three. 

"What was that for?" Luis asked as they both laughed at what they had just witnessed.

"You know we have a feud with those assholes. I just wanted some leverage," Jeff defended himself. "I knew that wasn't a book club."

They decided to go back home and rest, ready for tomorrow's regroup. Luis took Jeff home, and they stopped to say their goodbyes at the front gate.

"Now I know why Marcus likes to hang out with you. You're so much fun to be with," Luis confessed.

"Don't make me choose because you're going to be very disappointed," Jeff replied.

"If I would have been brave I would have approached you before he did"

"So you've been stalking me?" 

"No, but I've been seeing you," Luis said, giving Jeff one of his signature smiles. Jeff felt all energy leaving him at that smile.

'I'm never going to get over that smile,' he thought to himself.

"You're still a stalker."

"Call me whatever you want," Luis smirked.

"I guess it's time for me to go," Jeff sighed. "It's been beautiful, today I mean."

"Yeah," Luis replied, his blue eyes glowing. "Goodbye Jefferson."

"Don't call me Jefferson," Jeff joked. "No one calls me that except my mother." 

Jeff then entered his compound and walked up to the porch. He paused before knocking the door and turned back, hoping that whoever had brought him was looking back too.

And he wasn't disappointed.

[Book One of the Arabella Academy Series]

He didn't expect a murder to drastically change his life.

When a fellow student is brutally murdered in Arabella Academy, Marcus thought that it was an unfortunate incident that would soon be forgotten in the naturally peaceful life of Middlewood. However, his curiosity gets the better of him and upon being at the wrong place in the wrong time, realises that it's up to him and his friends to figure out why Sheila was killed. He dives into the detective business where after a few coincidences and a whole lot of bad luck, he discovers that the murder was tied to him in so many ways. This leads to a hunt to find the Dragon Pearl Necklace, a piece of jewellery which had been for so long nothing but a myth, and which will give an answer as to who really killed Sheila. The search for it reveals a lot about his life that he had never heard of, shifting his life to a completely different direction. Arabella Academy is no different, as many will come to realise its perfect nature was almost imperfect as the secrets that have been kept behind its walls are finally brought to light, one after the other. It is a journey which will change Marcus' life completely, and one in which he will experience support, pain, danger, heartbreak, betrayal, anger and endearing love.

The hunter becomes the hunted and the hunted becomes the hunter.

Will Marcus find the killer before he gets to him?

After lunch Erik decides to search for the library, better get the herbology homework on it's way, it would be fun if his plant growth project ends in the first week just because he is unlucky and his seedling need somekind of special care in its initial stages of development.
Also he is sure Snape said something about an essay on the cure boils potion, or something they alledgely were supposed to be doing  in the first lesson. Erik admits he was distracted, but not enough to not follow the instructions on the board, so his and Merwyn's cauldron didn't explode or melt, but instead of the pink smokes of indicative of well boiled potion, his had sickly yellow ones.
Midway towards the library, or so he hopes, he bumps on Patricia Stimpson, the girl is comming over from another corridor, with her face as usual covered by a book, which ends up on the ground. Erik picks it up and gives it to her asking:
"Are you going towards the library?" The girl nodes in response, grabs the book and stays there as a statue looking a him. "Do you know where it is? I just know it should be in this direction."


"Follow me." The girl says walking away.
One floor up and about to step into the library, the duo bumps into the red haired devil from the previous night.
"Erik, was hoping to see you today. Did I tell you when the club meetings start?"
"No, I though we could just go by the club room."
"Who is this fair lady?" Bill asks noticing Patricia by Erik's side. "Weasly, William. You can call me Bill." He introduces himself with a bow.
"P-patricia Sss-stimpson." She says her face turning as red as Bills hair.
"You can come whenever, but the club meets at least once a week, this year it's on Thursdays, 15:00pm."

"Will be there."
"Feel free to bring company." Bill claims winking towards Erik and glancing in Patricia's direction. 
'Should I bring one of the lads in the dorm instead of Patricia, just to annoy him?' Erik wonders while keeping a straight smile as the older boy turns around and walks away.

"What club are you in?" Patricia asks.
"Ex... Can't say, sorry club rules." Seeing the young girl start to frown, Erik rapidly adds: "But I can bring you to the meeting, we lunch together and then go?"
"Sure, it's a date." Patricia says smiling, before starting to get red as a tomato.
"Are you fine, should I get you to the infirmary?"
Hours later, Erik was alone in the library. His eyes were growing tired, he must have gone through twenty herb catalogues already, still his seedling was yet to be found in any description. As he finished leafing through the last catalogue on the table he felt something graving his feet. 

Looking under the table his eyes open wide.

'It's them!?'
Seeing that it grabbed his attention the lonely sock for it was just one of the pair starts running away, deep into the library and Erik followed wondering:
'Why am I running after it again?'
The sock guided the boy towards a broken shelf in the potioneering section, it must have been a recent incident for there were quite a few books on the ground and it's under them the lonely sock dives.
Erik lifts the books from the ground depositing them on the closest reading table, most of them are about ingredients. Right at the bottom of the pile one of them is open, one the exposed pages Erik recognises a seedling similar to his own. The books shakes, Erik struggles to lift it, the book is strangely heavy for its size. Under it its one of the socks, the other, the one he is sure grabbed him minutes ago appears from the side. Both rise, bow to him, and then they run.
The boy looks at the book and reads the title: 'Stabilizers - Even a troll can do potions, as long as he knows them'.
'Were they trying to help me?' This is when Erik feels a cold feeling running down his back and turns as he hears someone coughting to grabs his attention.
The librarian, Madam Pince, stands there looking furious between the books on the ground and the one in the boy's hands.
"Name?"
"Erik Chandler."
"Well Mr.Chandler you are banned from my library. Expect a notice from your head of the house as soon as I clean up this mess you made."
"I didn't..."
"Get out!"
Erik run and he jumped as the library door closed as soon as his ass was clear.
Down the corridor to the left, he sees them. They are there turning between themselves and the boys direction, shaking on in a while.
'Is that? Are they laughting? Did they just set me up?!'
Erik lowered himself as if to tie his shoes, he slightly turns towards their direction and them jumps, speeding towards them, they react fast and soon its a pursuit that would let anyone that assists either laughting or stupefied, for, in one minute they would be running in the dungeons, in the following minute it would be in the seventh floor or in one of the towers or even inbetween the walls, they jumped through one portrait in the second floor and emerged from behind a tapestry on the fourth, dived behind a armor in the third and appeared behind a pillar in the fifth.
 Yet, strangely no one manages to see this fantastic scene for they crossed no paths with any other inhabitant of the castle for all of thirty minutes.
Erik was sweating, tired and lost. The pair of socks isn't in sight. There were no windows in the walls, making him suspect he was in the dungeons, but not the regular ones, this place seemed to lack color. Everything seems to be in a shade of grey.
Hoping to find a way towards a more familiar part of Hogwarts, Erik keeps moving. The  ambient around him starts to feel colder, his breathing becomes visible and some light fog now seems to suround him. As he walks he inspects the walls for a moving portrait, but in this place there are few and none so far seems to represent a living person. Most if not representing creepy landscape are actually empty, void of any inhabitants they previously had.
Eventually Erik decides to turn around, there is no way this was the right path. His current throughs are: 

'Why didn't I turn back sooner? It's so cold. Why do I lose my reason everytime I see those two? They just have this way to get under my skin. Father told me more than once to be careful of such artefacts, if he saw me now. If you can't see its brain, don't trust it. That's what he would say.'
A door to his right opens, a girl steps out. She is tall and her wavy pale blond hair covers most of her face, but she wears the right colors as she passes by his side.
"Sorry, miss. Can you tell me they way back towards the common house?"
She stops and turns towards him, staring him down for a long while.
Her gaze makes Erik feel awkward and it only gets worse as she stands there, face him, not moving a muscle. In fact Erik doesn't even see her breath coming out, when his is clearly visible.
'Is she even moving her ... '
She moves, her arms pointing even deeper towards the direction Erik was sure was the wrong one a momment ago. His eyes follow her arm, losing sight of her for just a half a second, still as he turns to thank her, the girl his gone. 
Erik shakes himself, the cold seemed to be reach his bones now. The boy can't wait to sit right in front of the fireplace in the badgers commons.
Following in the indicated direction, he soon sees a light, yellow, warm. His pace accelarates towards it, only to immediatly slow down as he feels someone observing him, he lloks around but sees no one, yet he knows someone is looking at him, a lot of someones a feeling that only gets stronger as he approaches the light. 
Breathing hard and betraying his instincts to run in the opposite direction, he manages to reach the light source. It comes from a doorway. From inside he can hear people chatting, adult voices.
"Peeves is a danger as allways, I don't know why you let him run so freely baron. You are the only one he fears, yet you only admonish him when the situation is already sour."
"The baron has his reasons Nick. So far for all his mishief Peeves has not endangered the lives of the students."
"The living ones you mean. What about poor Mirtle, if it wasn't for his actions we could have helped her long ago."
"Mirtle, needs no help, you know well of her hobbies. In someways she is worse than Peeves with her visits to the perfects bathroom."

Erik Chandler is a halfblood wizard son of an halfblood father and a muggleborn mother. This story starts with the young Erik boarding the Hogwarts express and follows his misadventures while exploring the magic world.

Be aware this story does not follow canon strictly, as I, the author intend to just make use of the marvellous world J.K.Rowlling presented us with to practice my writing skills with a character of my own. Has such, events in canon will still happen and will have an effect in the story, but won't be descrived in full and the story itself hopefully won't crash and distort said events.

She received her first paycheck from Ardor and knew exactly where she wanted to spend it. Nathan took her to the bookstore where she met Kelsey for the first time. She took a cart, knowing she will be buying more than a few books.

She went straight to the Fiction shelves. She studied the covers, picked out the most interesting titles, read the synopsis and followed her gut instinct whether to put it in the cart or put it back on the shelves. She could do that for hours, while Nathan was in the Business section because that's what he was reading lately.

She saw him reading by the store window. The sunlight penetrated the glass and made his skin looked golden. He was looking down on his book, he pouted his lips. The world around him seemed to disappear, he wasn't aware of her watching him. He was like her when he reads, she thought. She could spend hours in that store, and he wouldn't be bothered waiting for her.

She turned to the Literature aisle, looked at the top shelves where all the dead poets lined up. She already owned most of the books. She tried to reach her favorite one but it was too high. A longer arm aimed for it from behind her, a scent of Nathan's cologne followed it.

"I've never read this one before," he said standing really close to her.

"That's my favorite, I left it at home ... I'm thinking to buy another one, just in case."

He laughed, "Just in case of what? But that's a good strategy though, always have a backup ... I want to read this ... I guess I've found the culprit, this was exactly where I met Kelsey the first time, she was buying books for you, wasn't she?" he looked straight into her eyes.

She shrugged with a smile, "Guilty."

"So ... if you had come with her that summer, I would've bumped into you instead of her?" he wondered.

She pursed her lips, "That's highly likely, this is a great store ... but then you wouldn't be dating the hottest girl in Gastonburry."

He looked down, lost his smile, and let out a long exhale. "Right."

"I think I'm done here," she said.

He looked at her half full cart, "Wow, that looks awesome, are you going to read them all in one night?"

She laughed, there were close to 20 books in her cart, "That's for the whole month or maybe more 'cause I need to do my report."

He grabbed the cart and took the poetry book that was going to be his new favorite, "This will be my bonus for you, let's check-out."

"What? I can't let you pay for that ... that's a lot of books," she refused.

"You deserve a bonus for all the work you put in, anyways, these books are going on my shelves, you won't be taking them back to Gastonburry, would you?" He had a point.

"I guess not."

"Great, so that's settled ... we'll have a reading fest tonight, I'll fix a nice dinner, we'll get some wine, we'll read, and then music, and then desert ... and then we can talk about it 'til sunrise ... you know, a stay at home nerdy weekend," he sounded excited.

She laughed, it sounded like a dream. It was something she would enjoy by herself, and now there's someone that enjoys it as much as she does. She remembered him saying, 'There's nothing sexier than a girl who reads.' Dido.

Home made gourmet looked so easy in Nathan's hands. She sat by the kitchen island, reading one of their new books while cooked. "Wow, I'm liking this one, it's gonna be hard to put down," a wide smile spread across her face. She was four chapters in, the story was already clutching her.

"Oh I know the kind ... I wanna read that one too, no spoilers please," he was seasoning his food, flipping his tools like a pro.

Her face was covered by the book, eyes glued to the pages. Once in awhile she made humming sounds, a chuckle or an exasperating sigh. He smiled amused, splashed some white wine to the fish, then poured some for himself and some for Julie. "It's that good, huh?" he offered a toast. She quickly finished the last line, clinked her glass with Nathan's, then marked the book and closed it.

"It's really good," she gulped her wine.

Their eyes met. He wanted to tell her how much he loves looking at her getting lost in a story, but his face said it all.

"If you like suspense thrillers ..." she tapped on the book, "This is the best I've read in years ... but I have to finish it to conclude the entirety of it, and then I'll tell you all about it."

He laughed, "I'm gonna read that right after you finish, do not attempt to spoil that for me ... I'm gonna read some romance after this, you know, to infuse a little romantic spirit into the tragic stricken love life of mine."

"Oh, come on, long distance relationships are not tragic, although, it is kind of sad to spend Friday night with a book nerd at home," she giggled.

"Trust me, it's tragic, and this is not even close to sad ... I actually prefer this than a noisy night life, and it's better with company."

They clinked glasses to that.

They started eating while discussing about books they've read, their favorite authors, movie adaptations, and everything else other than their tragic love life. After dinner, they sat in the living room area with their book of choice, and spend comfortable silence together. Commenting on what they were reading once in awhile, and went back to it right after.

He really did read a romance novel. He read only selected few, he said. But nonetheless, he was reading it. Julie never came across a guy who reads as much as she does, a romance novel especially.

Two hours into their reading session, his phone rang.

"Hey," he picked up.

She could tell from his tone, it was Kelsey.

"What?" he sounded surprised. He stood up from his reading position, and walked to the front door.

"Surprise!!" Kelsey's voice can be heard from the living room.

"Oh my God! Hi!" Nathan replied.

The silence that followed can only be assumed that they were kissing. She would've jumped to welcome her but she didn't want to interrupt their kiss.

When she finally stormed into the living room, they hugged and screamed. "I miss you so much! I thought I'd crash into your island weekend here and get a taste of that New Year's party I missed," Kelsey said with twinkles in her eyes. She looked around and saw all the books and wine bottles, "Wow ... you two are really going all the way tonight, aren't you?" she laughed.

Julie glanced at Nathan who was standing idle by the dining table, unsure of what he needed to do.

"You want some wine, Kells?"

"Oh, yeah, I could use a pre-drink, come on let's get dressed and go to that rock n' roll bar you told me about," she took the glass from Nathan's hand.

"Now?" he asked.

"Sure ... why not? I did came all this way for the weekend, Gastonburry was a bit dull ... so I thought I pay a visit to my hot boyfriend and let him take me out on an island night life," she came over to Nathan and kissed him.

"Yeah ... I think you should catch up and check out The Rockabillies ... or other bars you might like, I'm just gonna stay home and read tonight," Julie said. Nathan gave her a sharp disagreeing look.

"Yeah, babe, let's get out and have some fun, a little dancing, some island cocktails, and then we come back and catch up some more," she bit her lower lip and ran her hand under his shirt. She caught his lips and engulfed them in her kiss, Julie looked away.

"Julie, you sure you don't want to come?" he tried.

"No, you guys go ahead and have fun ... I'm just gonna finish this one and drink all your wine," she lifted her book with a grin.

"Oh don't mind her, she won't put down her book even if it's the end of the world," Kelsey pressed herself against Nathan, he couldn't possibly say 'no' to her after she took an eight hour flight just to spend the weekend with him.

"Okay ... let me change first," he took her hands out of his shirt and went to his room.

"Did Preston told you I was coming?" Kelsey threw herself by her side.

"No, I was as surprised as Nathan was."

"Good, I told him not to tell you, he said if he called you he would definitely slip up, so he wants you to call him after I get here."

"He's not out clubbing on a Friday night?"

"Nope, he's waiting for your call ... he's been brooding lately, its annoying, he's not much fun without you."

Nathan came out of his room in a long sleeve shirt pulled to the elbow. He wore his favorite washed out jeans and smelled like a Friday night. His eyes fell to Julie's, hoping she would change her mind or begged him not to go.

"Great! Let's go!" Kelsey jumped to her feet.

11 PM Friday night was her best time. Nathan looked down, there was no chance he was getting out of this one.

"Have fun guys! I won't wait up!" Julie waived at them.

"Thanks babe, we'll catch up tomorrow, 'kay?" Kelsey kissed her cheek.

Nathan didn't even say his goodbye, just a simple waive and a disappointed look on his face.

"Don't forget to call Preston," Kelsey added as she slipped her arm around Nathan's.

Julie caught a look from Nathan's eyes. "I won't," she said.

They stepped out and Nathan slammed the door just a little too hard.

Amara with a tray of brownies that she just made heading to the backyard. There she heard bits of conversation between her father, mother and Uncle Josh. Even though she only heard bits of it, she understands the core information. First, she won't be attending Uncle Josh's school, Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; second, she will be attending wizarding school somewhere near London named Hogwarts because of her father's job; third, she can't leave to London with her parents; and last, Uncle Josh will be the one helping her to buy school supplies and guide her through how to get to school there.
'So Uncle Josh will be the one who helps me buying supplies and go to Hogwarts. To be honest I'm disappointed that I can't study in Ilvermorny because Uncle's story of his school days is so awesome. Well it's better than nothing,' thought Amara.
Even though she heard the 'slightly' secret conversation, she doesn't pretend to not hear it, instead, she is running fast to them to ask a question. Of course, she was careful enough to not make the brownies fall.
"Is it true that I will not attend Ilvermorny like Uncle Josh?"
"It is true darling, your father's job had been moved over to London. If you study in Ilvermorny it will be too far and I also your father don't want that to happen." Her mother answered her question.
Amara pouts and asking again, "Are Hogwarts or something is like Ilvermorny at all? Because all I know about wizardry school is only from Uncle Josh and it was only about Ilvermorny and a bit about Castelobruxo that is in Brazil."
"Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the British wizardry school, located in the Scottish Highlands, Amara. They also have houses just like Ilvermorny," this time Joshua answered her. 
"Here I have bought you a book called Hogwarts: A History. I think it will introduce you to Hogwarts as a first-year."
Amara reads the author's name is Bathilda Bagshot and it was a new printed edition, also the synopsis reads as the following: "Do you want to know the secret of Hogwarts? This book contains all the necessary information that you need and also don't. Though it was your choice to read it or not I will give you one trivia fact, the ceiling of the Great Hall is bewitched to look like the outside sky. Do you want to read it now?" 
'What a strange introduction to a book, but I have to say it makes me curious.' Amara's thoughts on the book.
"Thanks, Uncle Josh."
"You all right, Amy? I'm sorry you can't attend Ilvermorny," Alexander apologized as he knows how much of anticipation that his daughter had to attend Ilvermorny.
"It's okay, Papa. I know you can't help as your job required you to move to London," she replied. "When are we going to buy supplies, Uncle Josh?"
"How about when you're exactly eleven? And in the meantime, you can read that book and other old books from my school, though maybe they're a little different from what Hogwarts is using now."
"It's a promise then if you lie you have to buy me a pet," grinning Amara.
"All right, little Amy."

Right on June 13, Joshua came to guide Amara in buying her school supplies. Joshua also brought a letter of acceptance from Hogwarts to Amara. The letter is pastel yellow and uses purple wax seals in the form of a lion, snake, badger, and eagle. The front letter being addressed to Ms. A. Hill and her house address and bedroom. It reads as follow:

Owls nowadays are only for being pets and package delivery to the local place that doesn't cost as much as Floo Express Delivery. Is this school not up to date?" Amara said with one eyebrow up in question.
"Well, maybe that's their unique way of communication," grinning Joshua.
"...." Amara can only stare blankly at her uncle.

A few moments later Amara and her uncle are on the car heading to Dragonite Mall, a central market for all wizarding folk in America. It is an equivalent to Diagon Alley in Britain. Unlike Diagon Alley, Dragonite Mall is like a mall for No-Maj in common. The only difference is inside the have an extended charm for so many shops and also they pay with American wizarding folk currency, Dragot, and Sprink. Dragot currency has 3 types, which are 1 Dragot, ½ Dragot, and ¼ Dragot. 1 Dragot equals to 100 Sprink, ½ Dragot equals to 50 Sprink and ¼ Dragot equals to 25 Sprink.

Amara is a muggle-born witch from America who had to decline an offer to study at Ilvermorny because of her father's work moving to London. For a reason that is she could not be far from her parents, Amara had to study at Hogwarts instead. Amara's uncle is a wizard so Amara has been introduced to the thing named magic since she was a child. How was Amara's adventure at Hogwarts when everything felt new but familiar at the same time? The cover is not mine to take credit for.

Dack Martin always bided his time. Back in elementary school, when the other kids would go out to play on the field, Dack would sit there and watch. Whenever Dack went into a room it would take him several minutes of watching to even dare speak to someone.

Now those days in elementary school were gone and Dack has been very patient. Dack has worked the same dead-end desk job for several years, he has not been the most productive nor the least productive, he has made sure that nobody notices him. When he goes home from work, he doesn't crack open a beer and watch television, he just reads and reads from the thousands of books in his father's collection.

It's a dark red bookshelf in which they are stored. When Dack was in high school he remembered always watching his dad pick up a book from the same bookshelf. He would read for hours at a time, taking his time on each page and after he was done he would put the book back in the bookshelf and do whatever other night time activity he had that day.

But now his dad was gone. His mom was gone. His brother... Well he wasn't here anymore but Dack didn't know if he was gone. It's night now and Dack finished the book he was reading. Just a crappy fantasy novel that nobody in their right mind would read anymore. Dack looks up at the pale roof of the ceiling of his house and falls asleep.

At exactly 7 AM sharp he wakes up as if he was on a clock and starts getting ready for work. He prepares a simple breakfast, a singular egg, a piece of bacon, one piece of toast burnt only on the edges. As he eats he watches the birds outside of his house feast on the bird feeder he had laid out for them.

At 8 AM he makes his way to work on his bicycle. The ride takes only 30 minutes and it is the only exercise that Dack will make that day. He gets off his bicycle and parks it in the company parking lot. Nobody will steal the bicycle today.

Dack is whistling the tune to an old rock song, a favorite of his fathers, as he walks up into the company building. As he makes his way to his cuticle, he looks around and notices nobody else in the building.

Did Dack miss the message? Dack checked his watch, it was the right time and yet everyone had disappeared. He knew it wasn't the weekend and even if it was Dack and the rest of the permanent employees would still be at work.

Dack shrugs his shoulders and sits down at his desk. He does his work, mostly filing papers and checking the company's data banks. He wished that he could check the internet but the boss had disabled everything but the inner company network something about "ruining productivity!" Dack supposed it was good for productivity but it really made the days less... fulfilling.


At 5 PM Dack leaves the office and takes his bicycle to go back home. Now it is dark and the trees loom overhead. He doesn't speed up nor does he slow down. It takes him only 25 minutes to get home. Today was a faster day.

At 6 he reads a book from his dad's collection. At 7 the book is done. It was a short one anyway. He gets up from his chair to eat dinner. It's leftovers from last night, Dack is too tired to make any more additional food. After eating he puts the dishes back into the sink, they will be a problem for future Dack.

It's now 9 PM, the woods around Dack's house are pitch black and occasionally if you listen in closely you can hear the vague sounds of an animal hooting or howling. It would be ominous if they weren't so far away. Tonight Dack walks out onto his deck and stares into the woods.

He smokes a cigarette, one of Dack's only bad habits. He picked it up after his dad died, and he could never kick it away. On days like these it's soothing to have a cigarette to smoke and watch the stars or look at the trees.

It's now 10 PM Dack's cigarette has gone out and yet he still sits on the deck watching the trees. Not a sound comes out from them, rather unusual for a summer night. Dack turns around to go back inside. Yet before his eyes appear the most wondrous thing.

What could only be described as a large blue screen goes into Dack's eyes. On it the only words that appear are:

Honestly, it was my bad it took a second for me to get all of you Pinnacles around into the system. You should notice that your system is quite... Well unique. Anyways. You guys are here to spice everything up for the people of Earth. I can't just have those clowns from The Gilded Isles mess everything up for me.

I guess I should say welcome! Your planet has been added to the great system! Honestly not such a good thing if you ask me. Soon and by soon I mean right about now, all sorts of energies from the Cosmic should filter into your world. Along with that energy you might get some other "visitors".

Don't worry. Humanity has been armed with a system. It allows magical powers! Incredible skills! Even new technology! I know so excited, I'm excited too but anyways. The name of the game is evolution everything in the system can evolve and I do mean everything so keep it in mind.

At that Dack looked at the writing flabbergasted. However, he knew that he had to read it, whatever force that could make something like that work had to be ridiculously powerful, and in the words of Dack's father "Don't f*ck with someone who looks like they f*ck with everyone".

The bookmarks got really high in a week. From 30s or so to 45, and now 51.

I'm really speechless. Maybe this book couldn't surpass those great works, but I never actually expected this trash dump of a draft could actually gain more than 30 bookmarks (or whatever the stars mean). 

Since there's no longer updates except the Arc extras, I don't think that the number will increase, yet God (Maybe Yuan Ji?? lol, I hope it's that person just fine) disagreed with me. 

Anyway, so many thanks for the (loyal) readers, and the voters. This one year was spent perfectly beyond my expectations (yeah, Dec 2018 to Jan 2019 counts as a year, no?).

After leaving the store as his mother told him to do Plethora and Megalo started walking towards the inner city. The examination will be held there.

As they walked Megalo asked Plethora, "Are you sure your mom is okay?"

"Yes, she's a strong woman, and I've tried cheering her up after she wanted to be alone for a while... let's just say it's better to not do that." Plethora said with a wry smile.

"Okay, well, I'm not the one she's going to be mad at anyways." Megalo shrugs. "But what did you pick?"

"Hmm?"

"From Moeder's list? I thought you'd have picked something with cloning, but I can't find it in the list." Megalo asks nonchalantly.

"Wait... What!?" Plethora stops walking and looks at Megalo. "You mean that you can pick a specialization from Moeder too!? That's amazing! Maybe that's why there are two suns there..."

"Hehe you'll like my mission even more. 'Help Plethora grow stronger'. Sweet of her right?" He smiles a haughty smile at Plethora. "If making you grow stronger didn't involve growing stronger myself I wouldn't have bothered though!"

"Thanks, Megalo." A sincere smile surfaces on Percy's face. "So, what are you going to pick?"

"Hmm well, even though I'll mainly be growing stronger for myself, I'll still need to think about fighting together. As we'll stay together pretty much all the time anyway. And as you have plenty of close combat fighters already I won't need to do that... You probably could make the sky turn black with arrows at one point, so not that either... What if I could... I think that's a good idea... Oh yeah, it is a good idea hahaHAHAHA." Megalo starts laughing maniacally.

"What are you thinking of?" Plethora pushes Megalo to speak, to no avail.

"I already picked. You told me you have this technique that dabbles a bit in curses to make your clones kill an opponent even after 'dying'? Imagine packing your clones so full of curses that they almost explode! I think we can make it work. And if it won't work I believe that all paths taken through Moeder will lead to the pinnacle, it'll definitely be of help."

"You picked Cursing? That's pretty cool, I even wanted to take a look at that myself, but having you specialize in it will make it way better!" Plethora says excitedly. He really was intrigued by what curses can do to help his clones after seeing it integrated in One More, but if Megalo decides to specialize in it he will go way further down that path than Plethora if he decides to just dabble in it a little.

They continue walking while talking some more. Theorizing about Moeder a bit, like that one specialization cannot be picked twice. Megalo didn't want to tell Plethora about the technique he gained. He did say however that it wasn't an actual curse, more like a passive effect that will help him way in the future.

As they come closer and closer to the inner city they notice more and more people that look geared up for battle. People wearing different kinds of armor and weapons, having slightly weird phenomena around them, like floating or see-through hair, glowing eyes, moving a bigger distance then their steps seem to take.

"We're getting close Plethora, are you ready?" Megalo asks with an excited look in his eyes. He has never truly been with so many people, the drive to battle to improve himself is coming out, and so is the confidence of assuming he will win. The pride of his being shining through.

"Of course I am ready. But it won't start for another few hours, so come, let's not make to much of a scene." Plethora says as his face loses all the emotions he can show when he is just together with his family, or Megalo. Megalo feels as close as family too, probably due to the bound they got.

Megalo merges into Plethora, combining with his other phantoms. Making the slightly scary effect of the shadows moving separately from Plethora even stronger, the green in Megalo disappearing.

After arriving at the great square where they need to assemble Plethora started getting vibes of something he really doesn't like. A noble's social event. There is arrogant youth that thinks they're the best. The ones holding their heads low trying not to be noticed, but still hoping for a lucky encounter. The supporting words while the eyes are stabbing daggers.

'Oh great..' Plethora thinks as he pulls his hood further over his head.

But as he walks around looking for a quiet corner he sees something that lifts his mood. A familiar face, or well, familiar hair. Dark forest green hair.

"Anna!" He says as he walks closer.

She turns around with surprise is her eyes and a little flower on her wrist. The flower is special, as it points itself at Plethora without Anna moving her wrist. "Plethora!" She calls back. "I thought you wouldn't make it in time."

"Why's that? There's still a few hours left right?"

"Yeah, well, the only tip my sis gave me was that I needed to be early, as they tend to start earlier without caring about anyone who comes after they start. Even if they are technically on time." She says while looking around nervously. Ready to jump to a start at the moment it starts. "Oh and can you call me Arnoba when we are in public... you're not the only one who has a nickname you know."

Plethora looks surprised at her when she says that. Not for the fact that she uses a nickname but "You're using the name of a god? A very old god, but still a god?"

She looks with a little distressed when Plethora points it out. "Yeah, well, it has been given to me by the forest I'm from... It told me I'll be okay." She fiddles with a leaf from the flower. 

"Okay, if your name is given it should be okay." Plethora gives her a small smile. It really is quite a taboo to take the name of a god when you are weak. Typhon was powerful, so it wasn't to Plethora to judge his name, not that it matters anymore. 

As they stand there the thing Arnoba warned about happened.  "The examination to enter Boundless Ocean will soon commence, those who don't want to join should vacate the area quickly." 

Right away the square falls into chaos, people talking loudly to wish luck before running out. It is such a high contrast compared to the military that it baffles Plethora slightly. Plethora and Arnoba decide to walk to the front where the speaker was, they want to make a good impression and want to be close to catch things they couldn't notice from within the crowd. 

Just as Plethora and Arnoba where checking out the old lean man with long wavy silver hair and a lean but slightly bent over posture and with his hands in the sleeves of his robe he starts talking while standing on a platform. His voice sounding as if he stands right in front of them. 

"As this is an examination and not a picknick you have passed the first two tests. Being on time and knowing what you come for." The words don't really make a lot of sense until Plethora looks around and sees that there's a lot less people, only about 300 left. "Everyone who couldn't focus enough to do what they came for has been disqualified, there's no need for such people in Boundless Ocean." 

The man starts walking from side to side on the platform. His steps small and slightly shaky, he really looks old. Plethora doesn't dare to underestimate him though, someone send to represent a big sect must never be underestimated. 

"The next test will be the same no matter which sect you try to join, but after taking this test but failing to live up to the standards can never try to join one anymore. Stay if you trust yourself or leave if one wants to improve himself more before trying next year." The man pauses, giving the two dozen people the chance to walk away.

"Good. The first test is comprehension, we all know that one grows stronger by furthering ones techniques, so comprehension almost equals strength. The technique you are to learn is called Shooting Eyes, it's a technique used to read quickly. It'll increase your observation and intelligence through mastery." He flicks his sleeve, showing his small hand covered in wrinkly skin, from his sleeve books fly out and hover in front of everybody present. "When opening the book you will gain a brand that will only react when one reads the book again, so those who don't want to be branded, or those that don't want to be caught don't open the book again." 

This made Plethora think, but he decided that he will open the book anyway. His parents want him to succeed, he'll make them proud, that is more important than a brand like that. 

He does notice a few people who don't open the book. And one that starts screaming, someone who did read the book before. 

Plethora feels rather confident in this challenge, as he spend some time reading Pupil and in that way discovered a way to learn quicker by using his clones. 

His nine phantoms are like nine other Plethoras, and by reading the book himself and letting his phantoms read it he actually reads it nine times at once. Giving him nine slightly different points of view. The tenth one reading is Megalo, giving him a final very different point of view. 

He reads the book, and it is actually quite simple compared to the techniques he uses. It might help him go further with Pupil though, using this technique to fill in some of the blanks, creating something new altogether. 

And as he is reading he slowly starts to apply the technique, reading faster and faster. And by the time he finishes the book he feels pain in his eyes. All 20 of them. His pupils fold open in a way to make a three pointed star shape that closes right after it completes forming. 

He realises that it is the star eye mentioned in the book, the pupil changes in the shape of a star. That's where the name comes from, when one advances far enough it'll look like a shooting star through the pages. 

He looks up at the old man, the old man is looking at Plethora. "You did well young man, you passed first and you are now admitted to join Boundless Ocean. Don't slack in the following exams to get better treatment later." The man smiles a small smile before moving on to look at other people.

"Well done Plethora!" Arnoba says before she starts reading again. For a moment Plethora thought she was going to ask for help, but she continues on her own. Something Plethora likes in a person.

"Hey hey Plethora. Guess where I found a curse to study?" Megalo says out of the blue.
