Hi! For my QI readers, I realised that you didn't get to read how I started writing Spirit Immortal. So below is a short description of myself!


Background about myself and inspirations for writing Spirit Immortal
Currently, I am a university undergraduate, and I have been reading fiction for years. I first got into reading fiction because of anime. Initially, I was a pure anime/manga fan. But I then found out about the existence of light novels. Light novels were far ahead from the existing anime, so I started to binge read translated volumes on Baka-Tsuki. It became somewhat of a drug to me. I kept reading and eventually, fictions had become part of my daily life. However, everything changed when the Yen Press attacked… Suddenly, many of my favourite novels disappeared, and less and less light novel translations surfaced. 

Finding myself in a severe deficit of fictions to read, I found something called Novelupdates. Every few minutes, there was a new novel chapter being released. I was overjoyed. Finally, I was able to satisfy my daily fiction needs. That was how I got into wuxia/xianxia novels. Being ethnically Chinese and fluent in both English and Chinese, there was a great allure for me in these stories. When I was younger, I would frequently watch The Legend of the Condor Heroes and many what we call "wuxia xiaoshuo." So seeing that the traditional stories blend with modern themes was somewhat shocking to me. To think that such a part of the internet existed!

So I started reading a lot of wuxia/xianxia stories. I remember the early days of Coiling Dragon and Stellar Transformations. The friendly competition between Gravitytales and Wuxiaworld. But one day, I encountered Doulou Dalu. For those who have not noticed, Spirit Immortal's cultivation system is inspired by this very novel. The reason being, it was the only cultivation system that I could actually follow. It's a very simplistic system, rank 1-100. The other Wuxia novels cultivation systems confused the heck out of me. However, worry not, Spirit Immortal is not a fanfiction of Doulou Dalu. In fact, other than the cultivation levels, they are nothing alike.

For a while, Doulou Dalu was my favourite novel. To a certain extent, it still is my favourite translated wuxia/xianxia novel. But I started feeling bored. Every single book that I read followed the same format. And after many disappointing stories, I thought to myself… Hey, I could just write something I like!

Thus, the idea of Spirit Immortal started germinating in my mind. It took me over five months to finish plotting the major arcs, characters and finally the ending before I started typing my first word. Majority of the reason why it took so long for me to start writing this story is because of my procrastination and school. Additionally, I didn't know if the story was going to be well received. But eventually, I steeled my mind and said: "Whatever, as long as I am satisfied with the story, who cares?"

So yeah, currently the number one fan of Spirit Immortal is myself, and I can't wait to put the entire story I have in my head into words for all of you to read. It will take time though, so do stick around!


Issues I have had when writing Book Two
I have realised that many of you were unsatisfied with the pace of the story, saying that it is too slow and whatnot. And guess what, I agree! I have been putting the character and world development at the forefront of my story thus slowing down the story progression, However, fret not, now that the first two books are completed, the story progression would begin to expedite as I believe that I have sufficiently developed my characters!

I'm trying to be more descriptive in my writing but that is still a work in progress. Perhaps it would be the greatest hurdle for me but rest assured, I will try my best!

Another major issue I had was time management. I started writing Spirit Immortal during my semester break where I had plenty of time. I even managed to complete Book 1 during that break itself! However, once school started, I had to figure out a way to balance work, personal life and writing Spirit Immortal. There were some days where I only had three hours to efficiently write, proofread and edit my chapter before I deemed it ready to be published. Hence, there might be times where my writing quality dropped slightly but I'm trying my best to ensure that I retain and even improve on my writing quality, so please be patient with me on that one.


Future of Spirit Immortal
Once my semester break hits once more, I will be sitting myself down in order to write as many chapters as I can. Perhaps, eventually, I will take the road of creating a ******* account to allow you guys to read advance chapters and at the same time, give myself some funding to weather through the school days. 

So yeah, I can't thank you guys enough for continuing to stick with me as I continue to write Spirit Immortal. I hope that I will be able to deliver the satisfying fiction that I have conjured up and brought you as much enjoyment as I had in writing this story!

Over a million years ago, the first human contracted with the first Spirit. Ever since then, Spirit use has become commonplace. Humans used Spirits to carry items and start fires. Eventually, even start wars. Thousands upon thousands of years past and one day, one human did the impossible. He transcended his mortality and ascended to the realm above.  

In the present day, the Frie Clan was once a great clan of the Himmel empire. However, a devastating battle ten years ago crippled the clan and their numbers dwindled. To make up for their loss, the upper echelons decided to adopt young orphans and nurture them to become a future pillar of the weakened clan. Shin was one of those orphans. 

Although picked up by the Frie Clan, not all is smooth sailing for Shin and the other orphans...

CHAPTER NINETY FIVE:


As Luna had cautioned, Monday morning was cool and grey, and Harry followed her advice and stayed inside. He felt quite rested after the lazy Sunday he had spent with Severus and his friends, and it was with renewed energy that Harry sat down to write up a rough schedule of the near future, knowing that things were gradually coming to a close and that he should make himself an overview of what still needed to happen before he skipped off to another country.


"Let's see," he mused, setting quill to paper and jotting down that day's date: Monday, 27th March. Rather than scheduling the day, he simply wrote down the expected happenings and appointments of the day, which were a meeting with Madam Tinkleweather, Nick and Mick, and Death Eater trials starting at 2 PM.


The next few days he left blank but for a scribble reading 'DE trials', then remembered what Amelia had said about Rita Skeeter's book being published. In all caps, he wrote down under Tuesday 'THE LIFE AND LIES OF ALBUS DUMBLEDORE – BUY!'. He looked forward to reading it and seeing how it compared to the original.


For Friday the 31st he wrote 'DUMBLEDORE EXECUTION', along with a few notes to remind himself to pick up protective artifacts from his vaults and cover himself in spells leading up to the execution. He planned on being as prepared as he could before walking into that situation.


In fact, he resolved to swing by Gringotts and poke around for suitable artifacts once he finished his schedule, knowing that it would take a while but that he was unlikely to have another morning off before the execution. His lips twitched as he imagined himself on the day: Bedecked in glittering jewels and heavily enchanted armor, twitchy and bellowing "Constant vigilance!" at anyone who dared come close. He rather felt Moody would be proud – or derisive of the jewelry. Hey, it wasn't his fault that Purebloods liked to enchant jewelry to protect them, right?


That decided, he roughly outlined April and May, writing only 'HOLIDAY!' in June. Oh, was he looking forward to that! The beginning of the summer holidays marked the end of his responsibilities, and Severus'. It meant an extended vacation and time spent only with people he chose to, and only the responsibility of checking in on Black Manor from time to time. Yes, he was looking forward to it.


Shaking his head to clear the goofy smile from it, Harry sternly told himself to concentrate on the present first. "Protection, Dumbledore, disband Order, house elves, funding for werewolf department at Ministry," he muttered as he wrote. "Speak with Madam Longbottom about Neville," he added as an afterthought. He might also have to take Neville aside and tell him that if he thought Hermione didn't know something, he should speak up – Severus had told him with a rather wicked smirk about Hermione's faux pas during their first date. Harry wondered briefly whether it was even his place to interfere in their relationship, but decided with a small shake of his head that they were both his friends and that Neville had to know not to let Hermione walk all over him. She did have the tendency to.


Stiffening abruptly, Harry remembered someone he had completely forgotten about since he had first arrived in this time. "Greyback," he hissed, hate clearly audible in his voice. Standing and pacing angrily, he asked himself how he could have forgotten the werewolf. The monster had been only too happy to swell Voldemort's ranks with forcefully turned Muggles, brainwashing the newly turned werewolves into believing the wizards were trying to kill them – and Greyback had also found a grisly pleasure in attacking random wizards and disfiguring, turning or killing them, with Bill Weasley being one of the few victims who remained alive and unturned, albeit with harsh welts covering his face. Harry had taken great satisfaction in killing the monster with a fiery whip, scoring the werewolf all over before ending his life.


Breathing deeply, Harry stalked back over to the desk and picked up his quill, writing himself a terse reminder to have Kingsley deal with it. It was up to the Aurors to do clean-up, now.


Leaving a note for Severus should he come down while Harry was gone, the young lord dropped the quill, grabbed an over robe, and stalked out of the room. Maybe going to Gringotts would take care of his frustration.

It was an even surlier Lord Potter who returned to Hogwarts some hours later, and Severus took one good look at him before asking drily, "Are you attempting to replace me as the ill-tempered dungeon bat?"


"Maybe," Harry answered sullenly, dropping into the seat next to Severus at the Head Table. "Two attempts on my life, and all the good protective artifacts in my vaults are hideously gaudy. Either that, or rings, and I refuse to wear that many. These two are already enough," he scowled, gesturing at the plain rings on either pointer finger. "Mild spell resistance, especially to disarming and stunning spells, and a spell boost," Harry explained at Severus's questioning look, gesturing at either ring. Severus's eyebrows rose.


"The ring increases the potency of your spells?"


Harry nodded, touching the ring on his right hand. "It's a handy one, alright. The other one's just as useful, though."


Judging by Severus's slow nod, the man agreed. "Were you able to find anything of use in your vaults? Do you speak only of the Potter and Black vaults, or also of the other vaults you… acquired?"


Harry quirked a little smile at his lover's phrasing. "Just the Potter and Black vaults. I might ask the goblins for a list of useful things in the other vaults, but that'll take them longer than I have to spare. I did find some things, though," he said, briefly touching the silver filigree choker around his neck and pulling a chain out from under his shirt. "The choker is supposed to counteract all poisons I swallow, and the pendant is a portkey that can punch through any set of wards, even those at the Ministry or here at Hogwarts. Repeated use, apparently, so that could be useful." Grimacing slightly, he pulled several items from a pocket and placed them on the table, precious gems and diamonds winking up at them.


"So gaudy," Harry sighed. "Powerful, though. Shields, protection against poison, magical boosts… This tiara supposedly has pure magic stored in each gem, but I doubt I'll ever need that much magic at my disposal – and I refuse to wear a tiara. Imagine what the newspapers would say."


Severus chuckled at Harry's expression of disgust, but reached out to nudge a ring. "And this?"


"Mental protection, apparently," Harry replied, picking up the ring. "I was told the stones are significant, but I'm clueless when it comes to stones."


"Quartz?" Severus volunteered, touching a pale pink stone. Harry shrugged.


"I don't know. It doesn't really matter, though, since I know Occlumency. I only took it because I thought Luna might find it pretty."


"I see," Severus nodded, turning back to his food. "You return to the Ministry after lunch?"


"Yeah," Harry sighed, pocketing the artifacts and helping himself to a sandwich. "Oh, by the way – Amelia said Rita's book is scheduled to go on sale tomorrow. I'll pick one up for you." The glint in the glance they shared said it all.

''Fuck you bitch, wait until I get my hands on you!' Shouts Gaukler now Dante Elcraft, pissed at Fortuna for screwing him over once again.
-Fine if you don't want to give me a proper System to guide my road to godhood I will make my own. But first I will need some ink and a father to write with.- Dante thinks, closing the black notebook and storing it together with the Scotfield Revolver in his waistband.
Struggling to stand upright after taking a second sip from the puddle of water, he drags his body to the end of the side street, entering the main street.
-After getting my hands on some ink I probably should start looking for thalami and a way to join Worthington to rescue mother.- Dante tells himself while following the memories of the original Dante to a pawn shop.
While doing so he is confronted with the full force of the street noise. If it was an instrument that could be played, it was likely to be found on the streets of Yharnam. If it wasn't instrumented, it was often the sounds of the street vocalists, glee-singers or balladeers. Add to all this, the sound of carts on cobble-stones, the neighing of horses, the sound of steam engines and all the ordinary sounds of the streets and the city was noisy as hell.
Just when Dante is about to get deaf, he enters the pawn shop. The shop is located in a small house that is wedged in between to three story ones. With an even smaller storefront, one just might overlook for its small size. The interior of the store is all wood and metal, wood cupboard lining the walls and metal shelves making up most of the store. 
Moving along the shelves Dante reaches the counter where a fat man eating a bloated sausage and potatoes. Taking a healthy bite out of the sausage the man stares at him for a while before asking. ''How may I help you? Seeing anything that you like?''
''Can I borrow some ink and a quilt from you? I can hand you some bullets in exchange for it!'' Dante says, removing three bullets from his pockets and showing them to the man.
Frowning the man takes a closer look the man says. ''How much ink will you need? These are only .44 bullets you can not expect much for them. If you had a gun shooting these I could give you...''
Before the man can finish his proposal Dante interrupts him by showing his black notebook while saying. ''Sorry to disappoint, but I will only sell these three bullets. I will only need enough ink to fill a few pages.''
Nodding the fat man takes the three bullets and hands Dante an already opened bottle of black ink and a quilt while pointing at a desk next to the counter. ''Deal. I am Ivan by the way. You can use the table over there to write.''
''Thanks. It will only take a moment.'' Answers Dante before sitting down at the table, putting his damaged later in front of himself.
Seeing the latter Ivan asks. ''Do you want to sell that to me? I can give you a good price...''
Seeing Dante get immersed in his writing Ivan forgets about the lantern and dedicates his attention to eating his meal.
Opening the empty 'Book of Creation', dipping the quilt in the black ink, Dante begins the process of creating his own System with the purpose of Ascending to Godhood.

-That should be the basic outline. Now I better bond it to me.- Dante thinks, happy with the basic structure of the system he just created. Using the sharp metal edge on one of the shelves nearby, he cuts into the tip of his index finger. Cutting so deep, that blood begins to flow out, Dante presses the bleeding finger into the corner of the first page where he just wrote.
With sparkling eyes he sees the blood get absorbed into the page, linking him, the book and his lantern into an unholy union. Removing his finger from the page Dante is excited to see success. The place where the blood had seeped into the page now shows a detailed picture of his face and the former question marks have all changed to the letter.

Having checked the first page contents and seeing everything filled out properly Dante turned the page to continue flashing out the system thinking. -Now let's see who has the last laugh Fortuna.-

Seeing the categories instantly filled with either '-' for empty or the items name, Dante suddenly gets distracted by the shop's doorbells ringing. Looking up from his work and to the door, he sees a man dressed in a brown sleeveless trenchcoat, brown high buttoning west, and yellow/white dress shirt. 
-A student of Worthington. What is he doing here?- Thinks Dante, returning his gaze to his notebook to not attract unwanted attention. Seeing the next page still empty he simply writes 'Storage' and some basic categories to create a well-organized storage system.
Still keeping an ear on the man while writing Dante is aware that the man has walked to the counter where Ivan is just finishing his meal.
''How may I help you a student of Worthington?'' Ivan asks, faking politeness while eying the man suspiciously.
Searching in his coat pockets the student takes out a stack of papers before asking. ''The Academy is holding open entrance tests for all who are interested in joining. In the following three days the entrance test is held in the eastern docks. The Academy is even giving out scholarships this year for especially gifted individuals. May I leave some flyers with you?''
''You may leave them here with me. I don't get many customers but the view that is coming surely are interested in the Academy.'' Ivan tells the students who seem eager to hand over the flyers and leave. Seeing the students retreating back Dante takes a deep relaxing breath, relaxing his tensed up muscles.
''You did the right thing...'' Says Ivan having seen his only customers reaction to the student leaving. ''... Keeping a low profile is always batter that being confronted by these noble snobs. I could tell you stories from back when I attended Worthington... Life for us common people isn't easy... only if you are a true genius you might be able to stand even with these aristocratic fools.''
Hearing Ivans words Dante gets inspired in how to get his mother freed. Standing up from his workstation he walks to the counter and takes one of the flyers the student had left behind.
''Take one or take all, I don't really care...'' Says Ivan, seeing him take a flyer while moving into his back room to wash his utensils.
Ignoring the store owners words Dante scans the flyers very basic contents.
-The Worthington Academy of Enlightenment opens it's doors for the public by handing out three scholarships to those gifted in learning but in need of funding to follow the path of enlightenment.
Be considered for a scholarship one has to be gifted in eighter the art of doll making or puppet making.
Participating in the testing is free of charge and is held from 12 pm to 9 pm at the eastern docks of Yharnam.
The Academy explores the following fields of research:
•Human Mind• Human Body• Creation of flesh puppets • Creation of human dolls •Ascension •...-
Just from reading the contents Dante is reinforced in his decision to join Worthington Academy, preferably as a scholarship student.

The young deity Gaukler is screwed over a second time by the goddess Fortuna. Two times descending into the lower realms to claim his godhood, had him end up empty-handed both times. 
The first time he ended in Helheim where he was forced into eternal servitude until he was able to shatter his 'Immortal Lamp' which prevented him from dying and kill himself.
The second time was much more peaceful because he incarnated into Alfheim but literally drove him so insane with its peacefulness that he stole the 'Book of Creation'.
Having failed two times already Gaukler extorts the goddess of destiny, Fortuna to give him third an edge for the third time around...

... Descending into Midgard Gaukler incarnates into the five year old, recently deceased  Dante Elcraft...

The news about the system brought huge joy to Franklin, he still wanted to know about the hidden mission whom he have finished , it's good news nonetheless, so he continued with his musing they were making great use of the 100 ton of gold that orm brought, without it he would have many setbacks and number one is the funding , but thankfully the problem was solved for him but still he didn't manage to get all of it as funding but only 34 tons , the war council refused given him ultimate freedom with funding, their still set somehow on getting some of the gold , nobles will always be nobles, so my grandfather have stated that he is the only one who decided what that gold is used for that's why I got some funding in the first place , so I have been keeping an eye on FRIDAY programming believing in the AI too much may become my downfall,  nope,  no sir no way in hell I would trust it 100% ,that's why I have these periodic checkups on it making sure it won't go all homicidal on my ass after a year I can say their was no need to fear their won't be any shit that would come and bite in the ass from FRIDAY side ,on a nother note the T-800 production was stopped by after hitting the 1000 mark so I have an army of robots, i also planning to cover them up with more layers of synthetic muscles tissue I placed for their movability plus in that would increase their power, down that would take alot of Time to research,  so I put it down , for now , the Richards reactor power station is my way of payback for those assholes at the council the moment it was publicized, the royal family gained more positive reviews from the people than it already is , because somehow the news with the demonic take over Jared we suffer a blow to our name even with all our efforts to cover it up, after we have taken care of the pesky reporters who published these we found them all have gotten it from a non existent person,  he never existed in our or the world's data base, well sorry to who ever done that I also tipped a reporter with the truth and the existence of demonic take over masks , at first people were skeptical put one they saw a recording of some people resisting and destroying the mask in public their was general shock among the populace, and now the kingdom is more United known their is a vicious demon coveting whats theirs, who ever leaked the news thought we would cower back and never counted on us fighting fire with fire,so yeah ,my whole family were surprised by my actions but I saw it reasonable, they know we are aware of their existence why not join the people on this and rally them up against a single foe who not only possessed their loved ones but also bring harm upon them, and also when my powers are ready and have cards up sleeves I will strike, faster than a viber ,faster than they would ever participate.
The rest of my projects are going well besides the military complaining about gaining more of my weapons nothing more happened, I also manged to make progress on repulsar technology, the enhanced version is being itched with runes to cool the thrusters , thus killing the need for cooling system , my uncle was with us every step of the way , Drawing runes and supplying them with magic, the man is a genius, we made the thrusters gain a huge upgrade, all previous thrusters tech was based on the nth metal one way or another, putting in mind that I made my thrusters with normal material, imagine my shock to find that my thrusters gain 80% more efficiency when corporated with the metal , I have shown the results to my father and he was elated, we put it to plan to install my thruster instead of the old models, as for project Kryptonian slayer I managed to incorporate the kryptonite into the reactor core , kryptonite is highly radioactive material that was conceived during the destruction of the the planet krypton, and they were created due to krypton core becoming unstable due to constant harvesting that they done to their planet,  the have consumed all of their valuable sources and tried to harvest other planets but due to dwindling population even that stopped,  in time the scientists, Jor El managed to find out about it confronting the AI of the planet brainiac who they have given complete reign over their matters,  and when brainiac shot him down he went to the council and who were convinced by brainiac otherwise, left with no choices ,Jor El build a space ship for one passenger, his son and sent him to a planet whom have the same physical appearance,  and a yellow sun which were previously and secretly found out by house El that it charges Kryptonian cell with much more powers bordering those of gods , and when he operated the shuttle to take off , krypton self destruction sequence was started by brainiac whom fled krypton as well , the moment the planet krypton gone nova the massive energy from the explosion created the glowing green metal and when Kal El space ship gone hyper to earth alot of these rocks crossed with him some ending up the same area he was smallville, while rest continued  to roam space until fallen elsewhere I had a huge amounts of kryptonite,  I even raided the government for their stock of the stuff, only I have it in abundance hahahahaah , anyway I inputted the kryptonite into the core , true it gives half the results viberinum and baddasium gives but that not the reason I put it it their , several events in the future will happen,  some people will gain control over the man of steel, granny goodness being one of the worst , so these bots will subdue the guy for me bring him back from brainwashed state , there is 
deleting a memory in the brain only restriction over them some time these memories will forcefully buried deeply under the brainwashed people mind that their memories seem to be erased ,but that can never stop me cuz I'm the ultimate psychic, and that's not arrogance but facts .
the station started working splendidly the amount of power supply is astronomical , keeping the fact that it's powering : Havens city  , waterfront city small cities like : perk , mountaintop and bales cities and many towns and villages lying in the west side of the kingdom and the power bill became one third of its use to be , people were elated,  the lesser the taxes the better for them , we also improved our image more with this one , the construction took the T-800 4 and a half months, and using 500 bots the work was done professionally and in time record ,the reactor is 50 m in diameter also being laced with viberinum with a 20 cm thick layer and 1 and  half meter layer thick concrete let's see who can get through this the concrete is reinforced by adamantium steel bars , I got 5 kryptonian slayer ready their incase , while the station was run by bots instructed by dear ol FRIDAY, I also took over the funding for Havens and waterfront and used the power bills to construct the east side reactor it was the same,  exactly the same it supplied :  Garden city and Minivan city and some small cities like : , Griffin, mildshade and bales cities and many towns and villages, after done with these cities in time record also took over the power bill, some people tried to work their minds to rally people against me on this one but I managed to smoke them like a certain waterfront council member named Garrett bidwill , the fat fuck was rallying people on and on how power should be given freely to the people and offcourse some ship got on the ship , I mean who wouldn't want bill free electricity, let us review the event shall we?

for the iron man suits variation I designed it for them to be an exoskeleton for T800s and made 50 so far of  them also  all of them are mark 5 models and connected them to dear FRIDAY, especiallythe Patriot's armor it held more destructive power and as for the iron monger suit ,it was more of a tank while the mark 12 suits used for general purposes.

Old Ling was sitting on his favourite chair, writing on a dark brown notebook. His beard had grown, and he looked more like a castaway rather than a mere rebel.
In front of him, Lin Longwei was observing with attention. His gaze immediately caught the resemblance between the man in front of him and the little rabbit, but he could not imagine why they looked alike. Their gestures had some similarities as well.
«How long have you been planning your resistance to the Government?» Lin Longwei asked.
Old Ling didn't move his gaze from the notebook. «Fifteen years.»
«It's not that long.»
«I'm smart.»
The silence fell again in the empty room.
Old Ling put the notebook in a drawer and looked at the man in front of him. His eyes were full of some kind of respect as if he was meeting a character from a history book, but Lin Longwei couldn't notice that.
«You caught Mu Jian and Xu Mei red-handed, didn't you?» Old Ling asked.
«Did Mu Jian confess their little game at the Central Hotel?»

«It may actually work.»
«May? Aren't you the Oracle? You can risk being more precise.»
«If I say it will certainly work, you could become too confident, and your plan could fail.»

Old Ling nodded with a tired look.

The children were going to school every day now. It took a while for Benjamin to successfully negotiate with the school's board of directors to employ a new principal of their recommendation. The new principal was very clear and firm about the treatment he gives the 'gifted' students. Apart from the tests that gifted students are required to take every month, they are free to claim empty rooms in the library for their self-study sessions. School staff will act as the self-study circle's adviser and monitor them closely during such sessions.

Or that was what it should have been. For Alex, Jasper, and Scarlet they continued their luxurious days in the library without any adults watching over them. Venessa and Grandma Sadiya left them to their own devices for most of the time except for bringing in new biscuits and getting new books up onto the shelves. Sometimes, the kids would help the librarians, everything fell into place peacefully.

Scarlet put on a smile on the outside whenever she could but the haunted look would return to the obsidian irises and the life in them would dull whenever nobody was looking.

The images of her nightmares kept on replaying on a never-ending loop in her mind whenever it wasn't busy with other things. The demons would scream at her and mock her existence. Scarlet knew that they weren't real but as she started to collect evidence about how the people around looked at her, the doubts blossomed into a huge sakura tree in spring. There just was no stopping it.

"Scarlet, no, sister... are you alright?"

The blogger forced a smile and brushed Alex's concern off with a wave. The term 'sister' felt very foreign to her and Scarlet felt uncomfortable. With the monsters in her head growing stronger than reality, the endearing tone was soon twisted into something falsely mocking in Scarlet's vision.

"No," Scarlet shook her head to get rid of the thoughts, clinging onto what she once remembered sanity was. "That's a lie. Alex would never do this to me, the Wilde's are truly nice people. It is my parents who are to blame... they are selfish and greedy people whose opinions don't matter!"

Still, the voices lingered like a ghost in her silent mind. The blogger decided that she would do what always worked for her and dove into books, learning more about how writers weaved such a magical world. She hasn't informed her team about her research progress yet but Scarlet was determined to study some of the literature classics to understand the birth of the word-weaving art.

Unknown to Scarlet, her new sister and friend were watching her carefully while maintaining their normal nonchalance. Jasper watched Scarlet more closely than Alex from beneath his thick bangs. He noticed some oddities just as Claire and Jenna had suspected. The gardener's son didn't know how he could aid the girl discreetly as she battled her demons. However, an idea struck him when Vanessa brought in a new box of books.

"That looks heavy, need help?"

Vanessa huffed as she put the box down. It was a rather large box about fifty percent larger than usual and it made the two girls curious too.

"What is that?" Alex asked.

Vanessa smiled. "These are book requests from some of the older students. We have them every year. Are there any books that the three of you want? I think we can try to squeeze that into the school budget."

Scarlet blinked. "We can request for books?"

The librarian nodded. "It is open to students in the elementary level every year. We just don't really get that many requests because children of this age rarely read books."

The three children mulled over Venessa's words even after the librarian left. Every child had a different idea of what they wanted. For Scarlet, she was thinking about a book that taught her writing techniques. Alex just wanted some art books with lots of exercise and activities that taught her how to draw better. Jasper wasn't thinking for himself when he thought about book requests. He looked at Scarlet and wondered if he could lead this horse to the watering hole and trick her into drinking it. For a writer, understanding basic human psychology might be a useful thing. Could Scarlet possibly be convinced to read up on psychology? Jasper hoped that by doing so, the girl might have a sense of awareness about her creeping depression.

While the two girls were deep in their thoughts, the boy excused himself to the washroom. Once out of the office, he made a different turn in search for the busy librarian.

"Oh! You scared me!" Venessa jumped when Jasper poked her on the shoulder. The lady was still sorting through the returned books when he found her. Grandma Sadiya was nowhere to be seen and Jasper thought that it was the perfect opportunity to broach the subject.

"Is it possible to request for some more advanced books? I'm afraid they might be more expensive but I really want them."

Venessa smiled and patted Jasper's head, ruffling his hair but the bangs didn't give way and the librarian pouted. She thought she might be able to steal a peek at the boy's eyes this time but the bangs were simply too stubborn. Huffing, Venessa explained that the school has a budget constraint and while she was happy that Jasper is enthusiastic about the subject, they couldn't do much about it if they didn't have a higher budget.

Jasper nodded and then excused himself to visit the washroom for real this time.

The boy locked himself into a stall after confirming that the toilet was empty. He whipped out a phone and dialled a familiar number.

"Did something happen?"

"No, Jenna. I just want to know if there is any way the Wilde Family could influence the school or make a donation so that it is possible to request for special resources in the library?"

The butler hummed. It was unusual for the boy to request for something. Usually, Jasper tended to solve something by himself even at his own expense. Although Jasper didn't tell anyone, Jenna knew that the secret visit to Scarlet's house when she caught them the first time was Alex's idea and Jasper had just been strung along as usual. It must have pained him greatly to sacrifice his savings that the butler knew he was so desperate to keep out of his mother's hands because of the young mistress. Still, the young boy did it and Jenna discreetly thanked him by asking the maids to place a bowl of treats by the boy's bedside table and refill it once a week. If he wasn't so set on making money and diving into business, Jenna would have wanted to take him in as her protégé to serve the next head of the Wilde Family.

"What kind of special resources do you require? We could prepare it in the private libra-"

"No! It will only be worse. You were right, Claire had reasons to suspect that Scarlet would require more professional aid. She's spiralling downwards but the depression hasn't gotten its claws so deeply that Scarlet can't fight it. Even as we speak, she struggles to stay afloat. I think at this point what we can do for her is to provide her the weapons she needs to fight it. She can't fight the monsters in her without sufficient knowledge on how to."

Jenna inhaled. "Not everyone can self-diagnose, that's why professionals exist-"

"I agree. However, I believe in her and I believe in the potential of a genius. We'll be behind her to catch her if she falls but do you think Scarlet will accept our help when she's had her life completely turned upside down? I can see how uncomfortable she feels when Alex calls her 'sister'. She cannot trust anyone other than herself at this point. Any kind of external help will simply be shut down, I can see it."

There was a long pause and Jasper paled. Had he gone over the line? This was why he chose to be silent all the time... whenever he got heated up over something he just ran it mindlessly...

"I understand. Send me a text about the things you require, I will have a talk with the new principal. When would you require them?"

Jasper placed a hand over his racing heart. "The library is open for book requests. I will submit them to the librarian. If you could pull some strings for funding I think my application will go through smoothly. I will talk to Scarlet about reading up on psychology for research on how to write realistic characters..."

The butler nodded and exchanged a few more words about some periodic updates before hanging up. She looked at her digital calendar and grimaced. There was no time to dally, a new storm was brewing.

The MRS conference was one of the regular academic activities of the American Society for Materials Research and was the most influential conference in the field of materials science. 
It covered almost all research directions in the field of materials science, and its status was probably equivalent to the "International Conference of Mathematicians", but in the field of materials science. Almost all of the material science scholars would attend the conference.
However, unlike the "International Conference of Mathematicians" which was held once every four years, the MRS conference was held twice a year, once in spring and once in autumn. Spring one was generally in Phoenix, Arizona, while the autumn one was usually in Boston, Massachusetts.
The main purpose of the conference was to show off the technology to the industry. Laboratories could connect with rich companies for funding. It also gave a chance for people to catfight with their peers.

It would be strange for someone to throw a show on stage. If the conference was quiet, and everyone calmly exchanged ideas, praised each other's technology… Then the industry people would have doubts.
The nuttier people were, the more they would try to catfight others.
This type of situation would not be seen at mathematics conferences.
In some sense, the style of mathematics was different than other disciplines.
As a mathematics professor, Lu Zhou was not interested in catfighting. 
However, this conference was still an opportunity for him.
Also, since MRS sent him an invitation, there must have been a lot of people interested in his research.

"The time frame isn't important. I'm not asking you guys to solve every question. I want to test what you know."
Lu Zhou took the two test papers and looked at the questions.
For him, these were all very simple questions. He could ballpark the answer in his head.
Qin Yue was up to question six, and he was halfway through question seven. His thought process was correct.
In general, not bad. This was what Lu Zhou expected.
Hardy did five. He had barely completed the requirement. This was somewhat unexpected.
Lu Zhou thought that there would at least be one person failing the test and it would most likely be Hardy because he was the most impetuous student out of the three.
However, it seemed that all three of them were qualified to participate in his research project.
Lu Zhou placed the test papers aside. He then cleared his throat and said, "First of all, congratulations on joining my research project."
When Hardy heard this, his eyes widened in surprise. Qin Yue also had a strange expression.
Lu Zhou said in a relaxed tone, "My passing requirement is five questions. If you could complete five questions, that means you followed my task and didn't waste the past month and a half… "
"… As for the details of our research project, I'll explain it shortly."
Lu Zhou took a sip of his coffee before he stood up. He then walked over to his whiteboard and picked up a marker.
Vera was sitting in the corner of the office, quietly reading documents. She stopped and as the other students, she looked at the whiteboard.
"Six weeks ago, I told you guys that the research project is related to hail."
"If you know your additive number theory, then you guys have probably already guessed what the research project is."
Qin Yue and Hardy nodded.
As per what Lu Zhou said, they already guessed what the research project was.
As for Vera, she obviously knew about it since she joined the research project two weeks ago.
Lu Zhou paused for a second before he continued, "The so-called Hail conjecture, also known as the Collatz conjecture, or 3n+1 problem, describes that for any positive integer N, after continuous iteration of fokn(n) = 1, it would fall into the trap of {4,2,1}…"
"… Simply speaking, start with any positive integer n. Then each term is obtained from the previous term as follows: If the previous term is even, the next term is one half the previous term. If the previous term is odd, the next term is 3 times the previous term plus 1. The conjecture is that no matter what value of n, the sequence will always reach 1."
Lu Zhou paused for a second. He then smiled and added, "It's like a black hole."
Hail's conjecture was no doubt more popular than Goldbach's conjecture.
In the 1970s, almost all of the America Universities were delving into this magical "number game". This phenomenon was even reported in the "Washington Post".
Of course, for most people, this was just a game of numbers, but for mathematicians, this was something deeper. 
"This is a number theory problem, and one of the classics in additive number theory. But, the essence is actually a complex analysis problem!"

Zhou Yuli didn't leave any space for debate after shooting his secretary in the eyes with a cold glare before letting him leave in a cold sweat. Once the door closed Zhou Yuli took a second glance a report that was just given to him and then threw it in the trash.

The next day Assistant Li arrived at the villa with the contract just as Xiang Xu said. They both made sure to sit down and read it over making sure no changes needed to be made before they both signed it. 

"There it has been signed by both of us." Xiang Xu just finished writing his name on the blank area on the paper putting it right next to Ruan Ye's. "Is that all we had to do?" Ruan Ye felt a little underwhelmed especially after she prepared herself for such a degree yesterday. "Well of course not." 

Xiang Xu let out a small grin and Ruan Ye suddenly heard a small bang which caused her to jolt slightly. On the table looking up to see Xiang Xu had suddenly placed a small pile of documents on the table and not a moment after that, he placed a stack of books next to them. 

"Hehe. The difference between the two companies isn't too big so I brought it upon myself to put together this for you. Of course, so I advise you to complete these documents and read all of these before you become my Vice President." 

Just looking at the small pile of work that was suddenly pushed onto her Ruan Ye froze for a moment. "You want me to finish all of this?" She pointed to the things on the table. "Well you don't have to finish it all but don't blame me if you don't understand anything at your new job. I know it's intimidating but I believe in your skills good luck." 

Xiang Xu gave her a thumbs up before turning to leave as Ruan Ye only continued to sit there stunned. "Oh, I almost forgot to mention you have to finish this in two days." Xiang Xu stopped and looked back at her with the same friendly grin he usually had.

 "Wait two days?" Ruan Ye suddenly looked back towards Xiang Xu's direction only to see him walking away. By the time she fully understood what had happened, he had already left.

"Two days…" Ruan Ye felt this was her own fault for thinking that it was going to be easy in the first place. In the end, she could only sigh to herself and ask one of the maids to help her carry the books and documents on the table to her room.

Luckily with the two of them there although they were heavy they managed to get them all upstairs without having an accident. Ruan Ye took a deep breath with her back on the door frame to her room.

"Thank you, Yuna I don't know how I would have carried these upstairs by myself." Ruan Ye thanked while trying to calm her breathing. "Of course just let me know if you need anything else." Just as Ruan Ye was about to say that she didn't need anything she remembered she still didn't have a change of clothes. 

"Oh wait if you could bring me a change of clothes I would appreciate it I don't have any clothes of my own to wear right now." Current Ruan Ye was wearing some spare clothes one of the maids let her wear in the meantime. "Of course Master Xu bought some clothes for you yesterday but he forgot to hand them to you I'll go grab them now."

After Yuna left Ruan Ye went into her room she decided it would be best to take a shower first since Yuna was bringing her a clean pair of clothes anyway. Honestly, Ruan Ye felt sort of concerned when she entered the bathroom due to the fact that she was so easily getting accustomed to life in the here. 'Isn't it suppose to take time for people to get accustomed to living somewhere else. Ah, whatever it's better this way right?'

After a short shower, Ruan Ye got the clothes from the maid and got dressed. The clothes she had switched into were perfectly fit to her size wich shocked Ruan Ye due to the fact Xiang Xu simply bought these clothes using the system instead of going to a store. 

'Alright enough stalling it's still early in the day I can definitely do this in two days.' Ruan Ye shook her head to herself and grabbed the first book that was sitting on the top of the pile. Sitting on the bed she started to read diligently after only a few minutes she had already gotten a quarter way through the book.

Inside Eveion Incorporated Assistant Li was already inside Xiang Xu's office waiting for him. When Xiang Xu finally arrived and sat down he was surprised. It hadn't even been a full day and Zhou Yuli had already sent a reply. 'Usually, people would have to wait weeks if not months for a reply to set up a meeting with Zhou Yuli. He must be eager to have this done quickly I wonder why?' 

"Well, either way, it would be rude to meet him without bringing a gift of some sort. Maybe we should give him a special gift to show him our goodwill what do you think?" Xiang Xu looked up at Assistant Li who was still standing there. "I agree a gift would be a good way to solidify the partnership between the two companies however I am not sure what kind of gift would be most appropriate."

"Hmm, I want you to look into his past a bit to see if there is anything that stands out." Assistant Li nodded and then proceeded to leave while Xiang Xu examined the reply one last time. 

"Hey, Evion what do you think would be a good gift to one of the city's biggest CEO's? I mean he could buy pretty much anything he wants literally."

Xiang Xu heard the task being told to him through the laptop on his desk and. "Evion this is not what I meant when I asked you for an Idea."

Xiang Xu's life had been a mess ever since his birth. His mother died during delivery and his father never even recognized his existence and in the end, the brother who he thought he could trust betrayed him. 

In an unstable state, Xiang Xu was killed in a car crash while he was still thinking about how stupid he was. After that crash, a miracle occurred Xiang Xu was given a second chance at life by a strange system that appeared on his TV?  Well, that was unexpected.

Hello :D this novel is written by me and edited by my friend. This is the first novel I have written although I had had been practicing for a bit. 

This novel is pretty much a test run and is definitely not going to be the final product. Also, Even though I chose to use Chinese names stuff like money, cars, etc will be based on things I know from my country so please don't be offended. 

Depending on how this goes for the next few days we may revamp it to make the story better or add some of your suggestions. 

All criticism is welcomed since I don't know how good my writing is and there will definitely be some grammatical errors.

If you guys catch anything or have some changes you think will benefit the story just comment on the chapter other than that thank you for reading.

Coming out of his room Alexander found himself in what would be best described as a common area for the tent. There were two sofas in the middle of the room surrounding a low table. On one side of the room there was a smaller dining table and on the other there was a desk and chair. At the moment Alice was sitting in one of the sofas. She turned towards Alexander seeing him coming out.
"I am glad the clothes fit you so well. It was quite lucky that one of the majors had insisted on bringing his charge. Otherwise you would have had to wear something that would have been too large. Now please come and have a seat."
Alexander slowly made his way over and sat down in the sofa opposite of Alice. She indicate for him to have some of the tea or snacks laid out on the low table. He was feeling quite nervous at this moment and didn't want to show it. Deciding that it would be easier to appear normal by just sitting back in the sofa instead of going for any of the snacks.
"As I said earlier you will be adopted into my family. Unfortunately I can't send you to Bryn for a few days. We are planning to do another push soon, so I can't arrange for the travel you see. From what I heard from Doctor Linden you are from Tiramdal in the Duchy of Holther. Seeing as you were an orphan I assume you didn't learn how to read or write?"
"Yes Lady Firestorm. I never learned to read or write either in the orphanage or when I worked at an inn later."
"You are to be my grandchild, no need for any of that lady stuff. Alice, grandma, granny or if you feel like you have to be polite madam also works. And when you get angry at me just call me old hag."
Alexander's mouth dropped open at the last sentence from Alice.
"Hahaha, look at your face. I just needed you to relax. So you were at an orphanage. What kind of orphanage and how long did you stay there?"
"Hem, hem… The orphanage was run by a monastery, I think it was called the Saint Miranda Monastery or something. Just around the time I had been there for six years the baron cut their funding and they had to send away the children. I followed a group of older kids to Tiramdal and ended up being caught by an innkeeper trying to steal food. Then I worked for him for a while to pay for the stolen items. After that he was kind enough to let me continue working. I stayed there until around two months ago when I heard the army was recruiting."
"I see, so how old are you now? I know that the Verenden army has a minimum age of sixteen but you are clearly younger. Especially since seeds blossom between the age of 12 and 15."
"I think that I should be around 14 or so. We didn't really celebrate birthdays or anything at the orphanage nor at the inn."
"Lets say 14 and 5 months then hmm. That way you can have a proper birthday next year when you turn 15. But back to the main issue of you not knowing how to read or write. Since it will be a few days before I can send you on your way you will be starting to learn to read at the very least. Hopefully you will even start some writing by the time I can send you. Since you already know Doctor Linden I will ask him to help you with that, at the same time you can help him with small tasks. Can't really have you just sitting around in the tent trying on your own. Of course the reading and writing will be in Lareen so you will also be learning to speak it."
Getting to learn how to read and write, despite it being in another language from what he could speak, was a goal finally in reach. After having been in this new world for those 14 or so years and not being able to write down anything or read any books was not fun. Alexander would do his best to learn to read and write quickly. Since he already knew how to read and write in languages in his previous life, it would hopefully be easier to do so now. 
"I will have Doctor Linden come here as soon as possible, so you can just sit here and wait. I will also have someone bring some food, I imagine you are starting to get quite hungry. Since I have many duties to attend to I will hopefully get to see you in the evening."
Indicating for Alexander to remain seated Alice stood up and walked out of the tent. Once she had left Alexander felt a bit more relaxed. So he dared to take some of the snacks laid out on the table. He grabbed what looked to be a biscuit of some sort. It was quite sweet and a bit dry. Grabbing another biscuit he found this one to be much saltier, and would probably have tasted better with some cheese on it. 
Whilst Alexander was eating the snacks, or more like gorging on them, someone entered the tent. He didn't notice them until a plate of food was put down on the table besides the remaining snacks. Looking up he could see a woman in her early twenties. Seeing him looking at her she smiled and nodded towards the food. She then proceeded to grab the plate of snacks and the tea set before turning too leave.
The food that had been brought looked quite good. It seemed to be a dish made of potatoes, some form of steak, some greens and brown sauce. In addition to the plate of food a glass of water had also been placed on the table. Even though he felt like he had eaten a lot of snacks his stomach growled at the sight of the food. He quickly grabbed the fork and knife and dug in. The food felt heavenly compared to what he had eaten so far in his life. The steak almost melted in his mouth. And the sauce was just perfect. One would assume he was partaking in a speed eating competition by the look of how quickly he finished the food.
Alexander leaned back in the sofa once the food was gone. He felt like he might explode if he was presented with anything more. If this was how his life was going to be, or better, he didn't mind at all going along with everything. Good food, learning new and old skills, and perhaps a new family. He couldn't have wished for something so good a mere day ago.
It wasn't long after he finished his food that Doctor Linden came to the tent. 
"Greetings Alexander. You seem extremely well considering everything. I must say I didn't expect at all that this would be the outcome of your sudden healing. Though I am rather glad that someone your age don't have to be a soldier any longer. Now, today I am not going to have you help me with anything but we will start on your reading and writing. We will also see if we can get you started on speaking Lareen." 
Doctor Linden then indicated for Alexander to follow him over to the desk. He then brought over a chair from the dining table and grabbed a book from a trunk near the desk. He also grabbed a quill, some ink and a stack of paper. Setting all of it on the desk. 
"I think the easiest way we can do this is to go through the alphabet and have you associate the sounds with how a letter is written. It might be a bit difficult, especially since we will be doing the sounds in Lareen, but I believe you are capable of this."
Alexander could do nothing but nod at his words. They then started going through the different letters of the Lareen alphabet. In some ways he felt that the script used in writing when paired with the sound reminded him of the Latin alphabet Each sound had for the most part a letter associated with it. There were of course some exceptions to this, but that wasn't unexpected as the same could be said for English. 
They continued with just the alphabet for what must have been two hours. After that they did some simple reading exercises where Alexander tried to sound out words. Even though he knew how to read and write in English it was quite difficult. At this time each word was just a collection of letters. But it didn't take long for him to say a word correctly from its written form. 
In many ways, the fact that he had never learned how to read or write in Vereen helped. He didn't have any associations between words and letters from before thus could with more ease associate them with Lareen sounds. They continued with this mix of reading, writing and speaking Lareen until it got dark outside.
"I must say Alexander, you have a real talent for this. My son back in Miran took from the age of 4 until age 10 to properly learn how to read, write and speak properly. Though you are still far from the level he was at when he got to age 10, you are making very good progress. Tomorrow I think I have some ideas how we can improve your writing and reading at a greater speed, I will also be almost only speak Lareen to force you to learn."
"Thank you for helping him Nicklas, how about you join us for supper before heading off?"
Both Alexander and Doctor Linden had been so occupied by their task that they didn't notice Alice coming back. 
"No problem at all Grand Magus. I would love to join you for supper."
All three of them made their way to the dining table and sat down. The same woman from earlier in the day and a man arrived just as they had seated themselves. They carried three plates of food, two glasses of what might be wine and a glass of juice. The food this time was a heavy beef soup and some white bread with butter. 
During the meal Linden and Alice chatted in Lareen, making it rather hard for Alexander to follow the conversation. Of course they knew he wouldn't be able to participate but noted that it was also to help him pick up the language quicker. Luckily for Alexander the meal didn't take too long to finish and Linden bid his farewell and departed just before the plates were taken away.
"It sounds from what Niklas had to say that you are progressing already in your studies. I am very glad to hear that, I hadn't really expected you to make any progress before heading off to Bryn. You should head of to sleep now so you can get up as early as possible tomorrow. There won't be anyone to wake you and you don't really have any time by which you must be awake. But I do hope you wake up early anyway When you do wake up, just head outside the tent and talk to one of the soldiers. Just ask them to send for some food and for Niklas. The current guards I have understand Vereen, though I hope you try to speak in Lareen. Have a good sleep Alex."
Alice smiled at Alexander before leaving the table and heading towards the only other door in the tent besides his. Feeling quite tired he listened to what she had said and headed to his room. There he quickly got undressed and got into the bed. Laying down was magical, a proper mattress pillow and duvet. How he had missed that feeling. They were just like he remembered from his previous life, perhaps even better. The bed was so good that he quickly fell asleep looking forward to what tomorrow would bring.

Whats the worst way you can imagine dying? By that I don't mean most painfull, but most embarassing. For Ryan this turned out to be drowning in a bathtub just after having passed his doctoral defence. 

At least something good came out of it. Well, I guess getting laughed at by a god might not be considered that good.. But getting to reincarnate, with all you memories, now that is good... Ryan thinks so at least.

Waking up to see the tall walls of a church, Ryan was reincarnated as an abandoned baby. Even if it is the middle ages the priest is nice, right?
