Every time the Phoenix also made the rotation, it was as if it got smaller and smaller, finally being only a tenth of its original size.
Kyle understood what the floating objects were but still couldn't believe it.
"Here." The Phoenix voice was much more tired and deep than before
The three small teardrops flew out, and one by one, hovered above Kyle's head.
"This is the pure blood that my body has left. I only have 3 remaining, and I was planning on slowly giving it out over the next million years, but you will get all of them.
"One is to understand the way of the Phoenix and of most pure fire. Two to realise the truth of nature. Three to trample on the existence of the world with the purest fire." Phoenix chanted and cried out.
The first blood teardrop rushed to Kyle and pierced through his head, and headed straight at the dantian. It didn't stop once it reached it but instead flew straight to the Sky Seizing Pearl and went deep inside.
Kyle, at the point when the blood entered his body, got into the state of total tranquillity that the Phoenix forced. The last thought that he heard before he got into that state was, "Get ready, concentrate on absorbing as much as you can." Kyle heard that and understood what to do.
The Phoenix blood, even though it didn't start acting in the Dantian but inside the Pearl, still it resonated all through Kyle's body. At first, it started as pulses that made both the ember and the fire essence frozen in place. Kyle felt a pure fear that was coming from both of them because they understood what type of terrifying power was waking up and acting on him right now.
Kyle tried to do something, but the pearl seemed to take everything in its hands and have already minimised the damage as much as possible.
That didn't mean, though, that the pulses were harmless.
Kyle's body started at first to heat up, slowly and slowly to the point that he started to sweat.
'My body has improved by leaps and bounds and have far overcome the limits that the human has. What temperature is it giving out?!' If Kyle knew the fire waves were at least 1000 degree Celsius he wouldn't be so surprised.
Next, the temperature started reaching so high that Kyle's body was all red and water as well as blood would start boiling the next second. That is when the pearl, trying to protect somehow Kyle even further, placed a translucent, qi lock on both ember and fire essence and pulled as fast possible both of those energies inside the pearl.
Before, they were frozen in place, not daring to move or be playful like they have always been before. The Ember Spirit especially didn't even dare to release a single fire essence fluctuation. It had intelligence and understood that it was at least thousands of grades lower than the purest Phoenix Blood.
Kyle tried even by force to move them also to erect a barrier somehow or do something similar. Still, it was as if he lost control over them once the Phoenix appeared, so pearl taking in its own hands the situation really made Kyle survive once again.
Once they both flew into the pearl, the fire pulses stopped for a brief moment before continuing but now at a much lower temperature, letting Kyle finally breathe out and think of the way to protect himself further, if anything.
A protective shield appeared all around the pearl that seemed to be the Ember Spirit's work that was controlled inside the pearl. Also, the ambient fire essence that has been gathered inside of Kyle's blood and meridians also was being summoned inside in order to aid the process. In addition to that, outside of Kyle's body, as much fire essence as there was started absorbing into Kyle's body.
"Oh?" The Phoenix spirit felt surprised.  
'I knew that I hadn't made the wrong choice. Sky Seizing Pearl is one of the 10 artefacts of chaos. There is no reason to be surprised by the power of the most powerful artefact in existence. Even if my body knew of the Sky Seizing Pearl, it would try everything it could to get its hands on it.' The Phoenix was incredibly happy to see Kyle be successful in surviving the blood absorption process. The fire essence around Kyle was extremely pure, and only a certain level of understanding was required to collect it or even notice it.
Suddenly a boom resounded inside the pearl, and the pearl as if unable to hold the remnants, a melding and very smooth red liquid flowed from it. It was so abundant and rich that everywhere it dropped, even inside the dantian, the flesh and the skin would transform immediately to become of the golden-red colour.
Kyle quickly willed, and all of that liquid travelled through the whole dantian and into the meridians. Even though the blood teardrop was tiny, the amount of golden-red liquid was incredible. As if a large vase was released into his body.
The meridians happily accepted the blood, and Kyle, with the use of the multiple cultivation techniques as well as mainly the Dominion Technique, guided it through his meridians.
At first, when he moved it with spirit force and qi, the effect was incredible.
But once he started breathing and moving the way the Dominion Technique specified, something even more amazing happened. The Pearl and the blood started vibrating, and now a new azure glow appeared. The blood, as if transformed even further to become even purer and better and even more active, started transforming everything it touched to a level that Kyle has never dreamt of. His body was already incredible and have been improved many times by a lot of different things. But now, it was reaching a level that he never even dared to imagine.
The most fantastic bit was that the more times Kyle circulated the blood, the better the flesh and essence became.
Kyle felt that the body parts that were golden-red colour were incredibly different from the rest and showed a completely different way they absorbed and distributed some type of energy that Kyle was not aware of before.
'Oh god.' While circulating the blood, Kyle finally understood something. This was only the first blood teardrop…
After a long period of time of hours and hours, Kyle finally finished all of the blood that was available and finally absorbed it into his body and made it much stronger, better and incredibly more powerful.
Just as he finished, without even a second of rest, the second blood teardrop that was floating above him flew into his body and into pearl once again.
Kyle thought this time around that he was ready for what is to come, but this blood teardrop was even more savage.

Days passed, and Kyle was still busy absorbing the second blood teardrop. It was much harder and slower because the blood was different and contained in itself different profound truths that Kyle had to figure out how to absorb fully to get the most benefit.
At this time, the 30th day of the trial finally descendant and the array that was heavily guarding and protecting the tempering grounds, shined and started one by one summoning anyone who survived.
At first, those that were closest to the exit were summoned.
Some were healthy and happy and were sad to be summoned out. They went to their respective teachers and told them in private of what they gained and how huge of the benefit they have gotten.
There were also others that were mid meditation and were not happy of being summoned out either, because one day inside was better than having a talent compared to the most powerful geniuses of the world.
While there were also others that were incredibly happy to be summoned out. Those people were all dirty, in tattered clothes.
Some were even with broken limbs and even missing ones. They were the survivors of the most savage and ruthless situations.
Most collapsed on the spot into the coma straight after waiting for them to be transported. Straight away they were teleported into the medical facility to get treatment.
Either way it was considered a huge success for anyone to exit alive of the tempering ground because even if you got no treasures, the ambient qi as well as laws that governed the insides provided an incredible foundation for all future cultivation. Every single one of the disciples that exited would at least become a grand elder. A title and position that was always heavily needed in the huge sect such as Ember sect.
And also, there were sometimes summons of those that never made it. Sometimes a dead body would appear and cries of sorrow would rang out. Other times a pile of ash would only be summoned, while others nothing would appear.
All by all only 20 people out of outer region cultivators have survived. A huge casualty that the sect would have never expected before the trial has started.  


The start.

At the start of the year 2020, a new online community came into existence. No one ever explained what it was, and neither understood what it was about. There was a huge mystery as it seemed people inside were from other worlds.

The common theme was them talking about a particular world that combined all the magical stories as well as all of the eastern novels together into the world where it all existed together.

The world was named "Game to Live".

On January 15th 2020, Kyle saw it in an online community of his favourite MMORPG. An elf character, level 62, mentioned that "I have decided to accept an invite to 'Game to Live' I hope that there I can grind to my heart's content." After reading the thread further, he didn't find anyone else mentioning it. After he refreshed the page, the comment was gone and that persons account got banned. What's more that it seemed anything that person posted ever online was evaporated from the server.

Not a Harem.

Laying down, her hand accidentally glided over the jewel and she disappeared. She landed on her back on the bluegrass. Getting up quickly, she rubbed her back then froze. "What the fuck?" she yelled in surprise. Turning around in circles confused a few times, she dropped to the ground and muttered in disbelief, "What in the world, what in the world, what in the world!!"

Peeking through her fingers, she saw that the grass underneath her and covering the vast hills and mountains were covered in this bluegrass and the sky above her was orange.

After a moment of convincing herself, she slowly got up and started walking, "I wonder, how in the hell I got here, wasn't I laying on my bed just now?"

Hearing no answer from anywhere she sighed heavily. She had already walked for what seemed like hours. She rolled her eyes and dropped to the ground, "Forget it, I'm going to sleep."

A voice boomed through the valley, "Master?" Rucheng jumped up from laying down, she turned around in a circle then suddenly stopped. Her eyes widened in disbelief before her stood a silver dragon. Its scales looked like mercury with a hint of white in it. It was walking towards her gracefully, she was frozen in the beginning then scoffed and ran away so fast that she left the dragon speechless, "Master wait!!" it called out to her.

"Stop! Don't follow me she yelled back at it," the dragon stopped at her command. Hearing that the thundering steps stopped behind her, Rucheng slowed down and turned around. She saw that the dragon was looking at her curiously. She could sense that the dragon was staring at her and undressing her. She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at it, "I will kill you! Why are you undressing me with your eyes?"

The dragon scoffed, "You still have the teardrop even after you died, who are you?"

Rucheng frowned, "Aren't you supposed to introduce yourself first?"

"I can sense that you are not Qin Rucheng. I am the Elder Being and the owner of this Hidden Valley and you are the owner of us two – our new owner," it spoke to her.

She pursed her lips, "Everything is just messed up. Please tell me how in the world did I manage to own a dragon."

The dragon made himself comfortable and looked at her, "Who are you first?"

Her train of thought stopped after the question was asked. She looked at this dragon who seemed to not care and was just hanging about staring at her. 'All of this just makes no sense. I'm grateful for not being dead after being killed and getting another chance with my mother but everything else is just crazy. The children are confined in a room all day and are being forced to learn at a pace unimaginable. There are the superpowers and not to mention the horrible people here but then again everyone is horrible, I mean, even I was a horrible person in my previous life.'

Sighing, she dropped to the ground and rubbed her eyes with balled fists, "You know what?"

"Yes?" the dragon asked.

"I don't care, I'll sleep for now," she said and placed her right arm under her head and placed left on her stomach where the teardrop was and returned home back on her bed.

Her brows creased, she sat up on the bed then went searching for her mother, she found that her mother was asleep already and the food from dinner on the table closed waiting for her.

Sighing, she sat down and ate, 'I'll apologise tomorrow to her.'

Staring at the Elder Being before her, she momentarily felt like shit! 

"There is no need for you to run from me, I am nothing but your servant," said the Elder Being.

Rucheng stared at him thinking, 'Fuck this bullshit!'

Rynold was sitting while laying beside the fountain to rest. The battle had officially concluded and he hoped that the rest of the gang were somewhere safe and sound.
He was waiting for his Mana and Stamina to recover for the meantime before leaving to look for the others. After all, in his sorry state, he'll just be a pig brought to the slaughter. Besides, this was the best time to actually look at the things that he's gotten from the battle.
Rynold ordered X to grab the loot from where the Behemoth Ghoul once fell since he couldn't even walk let alone move. Apart from the worthwhile objective of defeating a Hazard-class monster to ascend his [Summon: Mech Knight] skill, the loot should be something of a treasure as well.
"Let's see here...," Rynold checked the loot. Now that he recovered a bit and could slightly move his arms around, he gladly accepted the loot that X presented to him.
The first one up was the biggest one amongst all of the ones that X managed to grab.

"Not bad," Rynold spoke to himself, "but I can't use it." He sighed out of disappointment but what else could he do. It's not like forcing himself to use an item that didn't work well with him at all was a good idea. Anyway, Rynold had other items to check right now.

"You're fucking kidding me, right?"
Rynold was surprised to find something like this so late into the New World. He's gotten himself way too invested in the things that have been going on that this book would, in the most literal sense, be as useful as an egg cracker. Useful, but anybody with half a brain could crack an egg.
With a disappointed sigh, Rynold used the book. It was nice and easy but a bunch of information suddenly popped into his head. The guide wasn't meant to be read in any sense whatsoever but it was used to update the system of any user.

The notification popped up as soon as he tried to open the book and shut itself right after. The system had managed to undergo an upgrade in the simple sense that the information it provided for items was a bit more detailed now.
To check what sort of information updated, Rynold opened up the Mana Gauntlet's window.

"That's it?" Rynold seriously had his doubts as to why would this sort of item would show up now of all times. It was way too unappealing, especially with its 'Beginner' title. But, it was still better than nothing... probably.
Rynold didn't bother to continue checking what else he discovered now that his system updated. Essentially apart from weapon classes, there were a bunch of things as well. There were the item rarity classifications and the monster classes too. But Rynold couldn't be bothered and decided to check on the next drops.

The monster core was a congealed orb that was as big as Rynold's palm. He really didn't know what to do with this now so he placed it inside his inventory for now and kept going on with the loot.

Rynold was filled with excitement about what he had read as he held the key in his hand. It was shaped like a teardrop but it was made from frozen amber. Regardless, Rynold was looking forward to exploring this so-called tree with his friends.
Moving forward, he continued to check the rest of the loot, most of which turns out to be random materials and ores that would be useful in the future. There could be many ways of using the materials but as of now, there's no crafting menu that he can use.
All in all, the drops were actually quite nice. Not to the point of usability but the teleport key was the only thing that made it all worth it.
"Right, there's still this one thing to do," Rynold murmured and opened up the Mech Knight window. It was time for him to activate the ascension and make his trustworthy follower stronger.

Rynold clicked yes right away but another window popped up.

"Oh...," Rynold looked at X once more before deciding. Although another Mech Knight as powerful as X could prove to be useful, he's grown admittedly attached to the one he currently has.
He chose the second option without even thinking it twice and the results happened straight away. The Mech Knight was enveloped in a magic array that surrounded it whole. There was a slight difference in the runes that showed from the usual summoning but Rynold didn't even bother noticing it.
He just sat back and enjoyed the show.
Once the magic array was finished, a light suddenly shot out from it. The beam of light looked like it was overcoming the darkness from the moonlight but the glare was different from welcoming.
The light was bright enough for Rynold to forcefully block his sight from the beacon in the moonlight. It was painful for a person to look at even if they wore shades but it wasn't long until the light finally subsided.
When the light dissipated, the Mech Knight showed no signs of sentience. Perhaps it was too dark for Rynold to see clearly, but there didn't seem to be any sort of difference in the Mech Knight's physical appearance. A window, however, confirmed that the ascension was complete.

"Nice," Rynold smiled with a satisfied expression, "how do you feel, buddy?"
The question was rather dry to ask a Mech Knight who has undergone a transformation. There were, admittedly, some ways X could respond.
To Rynold's surprise, X suddenly spoke in a sort of mechanical tone to the voice, "I am alright."
"You can talk!" Rynold was genuinely elated now that his precious Mech Knight could talk, "I guess the upgrade did really make you sentient now."
"Father," X then suddenly asked, "what is my purpose?"
"Eh?" Rynold's mouth was agape from the sudden existential question and couldn't contain his surprise. On the one hand, he was really happy and satisfied with how things turned out but, on the other hand, the sentience might have been a little too much to spring on a magical being.
He coughed to try and reduce the awkwardness that only he could feel and continued, "well, I think that's a question that you have to find out for yourself, no? And can you please call me something else, instead?"
X nodded in response and asked in his mechanical voice, "is overlord alright?"
"Too extreme," Rynold dismissed.
"Papi?" X asked once more.
"Nope."
"Dad?"
"Nuh-uh."

"Daddy?"
"Big swing and a miss there."
"Master?"
"I guess that's acceptable for the meantime," Rynold chuckled. In truth, he wouldn't actually mind if X called him father or dad because he always treated X like a son. It, or he, rather, resembles what seemed to Rynold as a child that he's taken care of. And, well, put in harm's way repeatedly.
"As you wish, master," X nodded. The mechanical voice was starting to get on Rynold's nerves but he was more or less okay with it. He would much rather change it though but that's something to look forward to in the long run.
"Oh yeah, something reminds me," Rynold hesitated mid-thought, "I'm sorry for all the trouble I've put you through, buddy."
"It is alright," the Mech Knight replied with a grateful tone.

When the gods of the ancient decided that they had enough of humanity's acts against their own kind, they decided to flip the world on its feet. Hence, the New World! At that instant, Mai Dong felt the area around her warm up as though she had been immersed in warm water. This made her recall Earth's sunshine. Mars never had such sunshine. As it was a lot farther from the Sun than the Earth, the Sun was nothing but a light-emitting light bulb to Mars. It was bright, but it didn't bring any warmth.
Mai Dong leaned against the window and looked far out at the golden glow in the darkness.
She suddenly smiled.
The sun was setting. The magnificent flames disappeared into the darkness as the mountain-like shadow seemed to slowly rise in front of Mai Dong.
It slowly and silently flew across Mai Dong's head like an extraterrestrial spacecraft that suddenly descended. It was like a long, dull blade that carried with it an indomitable strength that came sweeping over. It sliced through the space station's truss, solar panels, inflatable module, and the arm. Shrapnel scattered everywhere as it tumbled outside the space station, reflecting the fiery red glow like flying snowflakes above a massive fire.
It was clearly a violent and alarming collision, but what Mai Dong saw seemed like a movie playing out in slow motion. It was a silent film. Sound couldn't be transmitted in a vacuum, nor was it able to transmit time for some odd reason. Everything seemed to happen beyond time.
Time seemed to drag as the boom and tremors of the collision lumbered across the metal frame. The earpiece, pen, and paper in the core module continued their trajectory based on their momentum as snow-white hull fragments floated in a pitch-black background. The girl stared in a daze at the flames in front of her. They were snaking through the fissures in the white hull, the leaking oxidizers a fatal attraction for them. The blue word "Orion" had been scorched black and yellow from the flames. All of this was separated from her only by a window. Loneliness and sorrow effused in the girl's eyes.
This was an extremely beautiful scene. It was like a crystal palace that was collapsing in an inferno. It was a grand yet tragic death.
However, her sadness prompted her to cry.
The next second, the loud boom and tremors entered the Crystal module. This was a result of the truss snapping. It was the first thing Orion II hit. 
Everything in the core module was shaking. The dashboard and control panel were uprooted from the walls as power cables were torn. The girl's tiny teardrops left her eyes as they formed spheres due to surface tension.
The crystalline water beads traversed across the core module thanks to its momentum, passing through the messy power cables, paper, and notebook computer. Affected by the turbulent air, it began turning as it wobbled. The breeze imbued it with extremely little kinetic energy as it spun to fly towards the glass window.
Looking out through it, everything around her was distorted. Light had been refracted by the water bead and in the distance. There was another explosive flame that only appeared like a bright ring thanks to the teardrop. This ring expanded from one end of the teardrop to the other until the latter hit the glass. With a soft splattering sound, it broke apart into countless tiny droplets.
They then formed into tiny spheres that appeared like golden beads amidst the flames.
Following that, an even more massive force hit the core module. Even the metal frame was cracking from the tremors. The core module's walls let out a sharp groan as it was pushed to the brink of death.
Mai Dong's body flew backward as she slammed heavily into the hatch, her vision turning black.
The entire world was spinning and tumbling.
She watched as the leaking high-pressure steam condensed in the vacuum's low temperatures, crystallizing into shimmering ice crystals.
The space station couldn't withstand such a blow and had begun disintegrating. Through the window, Mai Dong saw a damaged module she couldn't identify hurtle past until it slammed into the truss and snap.
When she saw fragments from the incubator scatter, she knew that it was the Hope module. At the instant the module lost pressure, all the plants inside must have frozen to death.
The core module was once again illuminated by a blinding light.
Mai Dong saw the spacecraft's propellant tanks smash into the inflatable module at the end of the space station. They were easily identifiable with their orange-yellow cylindrical shape. There were a total of four of them, and they were installed on Orion II. But at this moment, Mai Dong could only see two tanks. Two had already disappeared. The remaining two left a wake of fiery flames as they slammed into the inflatable module, flattening it instantly. The fire immediately intensified as the leaking methane and oxygen caused another explosion.
It turned out that only an explosion could be this bright—as bright as the sun.
The entire world was burning.
With the light from the explosion and flames, Mai Dong could see that the Silent multipurpose module had become detached, half a broken solar sail had sliced through its hull. The Harmony service module had been punctured by the chaotic fragments and the broken arm had crashed into it. The water tank—most of her resources for survival—had ruptured.
Nearly all of the batteries in the space station had been disconnected, turning into blue shattered glass.
There were countless components and fragments that enveloped the space station. They were slicing through its hull at high speeds, reducing the space station to a sorry mess.
The world Mai Dong was in was undergoing destruction. She stood in the middle of this world as everything around her was burning, crashing, collapsing, and burying each other.
The entire world was spinning.
The explosion drained Orion II of all its propellant. It had flown far away after slamming into the inflatable module, leaving a trail of flames that extinguished a few minutes later. Comically, the Eagle was still hanging onto it, such a violent collision was not able to knock it off. This was evidence that Mai Dong had secured it very tightly.
Orion II had disappeared and couldn't be seen.
Mai Dong couldn't hear a thing. The loud booms from the explosion and collision had made her temporarily lose her sense of hearing. Her ears were constantly buzzing as her head ached. She wasn't able to see anything as the strong collision sent the space station and core module into a rapid spin. If there wasn't an additional force to withstand this torque, it would continue spinning forever. After the leaked oxidizers outside were expended with all the flames extinguished, the world plunged back into darkness.
She didn't know if the core module had lost pressure, nor did she know if the space station was plummeting. She didn't even know if she was alive.
The lights inside the module had gone out and the system had long stopped working. There weren't any warnings and she couldn't even see her fingers.
The entire world was already dead.
In Kunlun Station, Tomcat's and Tang Yue's smiles were still frozen on their faces. They were just about to discuss Tianzhou and the descent with Mai Dong.
The man and cat looked at the communications system in a daze.
There was a deathly silence.
None of this took more than two minutes.
From the moment Kunlun Station's system warning "WARNING: COMMLINK DISCONNECTED" to the screen showing the notification "MARS UNITED SPACE STATION CRASHED," none of that took more than two minutes.

Faint fluctuations travelled over, and for there to be so many undulations despite the long distance allowed the people in the carriage to ascertain their identities.

“They’re Magi, official Magi! It looks like they’re battling. Do we still proceed?” A peak rank 1 Magus guild master approached Leylin’s carriage and bowed, asking for further instructions.

“Of course!” Leylin spoke indifferently. With the power, they held when they banded together, they could easily go on a rampage in the eastern region. Thus, they were fearless.

The guild leader seemed to have the same thoughts and, after a moment of pause, they continued to advance.

The rest of the party noticed the energy fluctuations as they closed in. One of the two seemed to have reservations with approaching them, while the other hesitated for a moment before heading in their directions.

“Trying to use us to block the enemy?” The Magi in the group of carriages silently waited while smirking.

*Xiu!*

Seconds later, a red streak shot over from afar, and a young Magus appeared.

This Magus looked quite ordinary but for the black ring on his right index finger and his resolute eyes. After seeing so many official Magi, his eyes widened and he tried to take a long way around them.

“You can’t escape! How dare you steal our family’s treasure!” a woman’s voice sounded out. The young man quivered, bit his lips, ground his teeth, and then dashed towards the group of carriages.

“Save me! I’m a wandering Magus, and for some reason, this mad woman is chasing me. She keeps slandering me and saying that I stole her treasure!”

This young Magus was naturally Aaron. After recuperating from his injuries, he had been unlucky enough to meet with the Magus from the Mambo Family, and had been chased all the way here.

As for blocking this group’s path, that was naturally Merlin’s idea.

“Will they save me? After all…” Aaron worriedly communicated with Merlin in his mind.

“Don’t worry! I’ve already completely concealed the aura of the Teardrop Gemstone. That crazy woman behind us won’t find anything!” Merlin promised confidently.

As for that confidence, it was definitely due to a certain someone within the carriages.

“Hehe… Young man, you’re pretty good to have actually helped me gather the Teardrop Gemstone. I didn’t even know the Mambo Family had this in their collection!” Leylin smiled lightly, a cold glint in his eyes.

*Xiu!* At this moment, a pink ray shot into this area, and the female Magus who had been chasing after Aaron appeared in their midst.

After seeing the group of carriages with so many Magi, she felt her chest tighten perceptibly.

“I am Ophelia of the Mambo Family! My apologies if I am offending you, but please do not stop me from pursuing this vile thief!”

“Haven’t you dealt with this yet?” At this moment, Leylin opened the door and descended from the largest and most luxurious carriage in Nature’s Alliance’s group.

“Lord Leylin!” All the Magi there immediately bowed.

“Ley-Leylin! The legendary rank 2 Magus said to have heavily injured a dark elven Sovereign Mother! Why is my luck so bad?” Ophelia was snarling on the inside, but she wouldn’t dare to even break into a cold sweat in this man’s presence.

“What’s going on?” Leylin furrowed his eyebrows, asking even though he knew the situation.

“My- My apologies, my lord!” A Magus from the Alliance was frightened so badly he couldn’t even speak clearly.

“What’s going on?” Leylin repeated once again, but the atmosphere had frozen. The entire group was quiet, and even some guild leaders of medium-scaled guilds, who were peak rank 1 Magi themselves, did not dare to make a sound.

“My lord, it’s like this….” Ophelia tried her best to make herself sound calm, narrating the whole story.

“Oh! Is that so?”

Leylin turned, and Aaron was pressed to the ground by an invisible force.

“I’ll give you one chance. You said you used your family’s secret method and found him. Do it again in front of us! If the Teardrop Gemstone is on him, then he shall be judged by us all. If not…” Leylin’s dangerous gaze landed on Ophelia, causing her head to tingle.

“If it isn’t, then Ophelia is willing to accept punishment!” Ophelia grit her teeth and forced out an answer.

“Not only that, those of us here are responding to summons from the central region to engage in battle. If you are proven to be wrong, you shall be prosecuted by the war council for obstructing military affairs.”

Leylin smiled to make up for his harsh words. “Well then, begin!”

“What do I do? What do I do?” Aaron watched Ophelia who had already begun to use her family’s secret method and the official Magi who were preparing to watch a good show. He repeatedly asked Merlin in his mind, while not even daring to look at the legendary rank 2 Magus at all.

“Don’t worry. I’m the legendary great Magus Merlin. What is a little rank 2 Magus to me?” Merlin boasted shamelessly, “With my spirit force concealing it, this girl definitely won’t find anything!”

“Then why didn’t you use it previously?” Aaron felt like he had been conned.

“A lot of my spirit force has been used, and it hasn’t been replenished,” Merlin explained vaguely, causing Aaron to immediately begin reproaching himself. How could he not trust Grandpa Merlin, whom he had grown up with?

“You’re dead meat!” Ophelia snickered while lowering her head, pointing at Aaron with the ring.

“There is a tracking spell formation on the Teardrop Gemstone passed down by my ancestors. As long he has it on him, my ring will emit red rays of light. Look, my lords!”

Ophelia pointed the ring at Aaron, and shouted a word, “Mambo!”

Aaron’s heart was at his throat, and he almost closed his eyes to wait for the judgment of destiny.

“Eh?” “Oh!” “Ah?”

All sorts of sounds resounded by Aaron’s ears, but none of them were the accusations he had expected.

He secretly chanced a glance at Ophelia, who was now looking lost and dejected.

“How is this possible? How is this possible? It wasn’t like this the last few times!” She lifted the ring and scanned him a few more times.

The ring had no response, as if it were just an ordinary ring.

“Haha! How is it? Aren’t my concealing methods powerful?” Merlin chuckled heartily in Aaron’s mind.

In reality, all of this was Leylin’s work. If not for him being there, Aaron would definitely have been seen through.

“How?” Ophelia shrieked, unwilling to give up as she took off the ring and inspected the formations within.

Moments later, she yelled out, “It must be you! You must have hidden the Teardrop Gemstone somewhere along the way!

“No! It must definitely be on your person. Hand it over!” Blazing pink flames appeared on her body.

“Enough! What a farce!” Leylin was still playing the role of a fair, altruistic judge.

“No! My lord, you need to believe me!” Ophelia’s voice cracked, sounding a little hoarse.

*Bang!*

A resplendent, silver light flashed, and the flames on her body were extinguished. She retreated a few steps and fell to the ground, her expression still full of stubbornness.

“Haha, that girl actually dares to resist. She’s in trouble!” Merlin rejoiced in Aaron’s mind.

“What’s happening?” Aaron immediately asked.

She looked at the scene around her. Although it was an intense fight, she couldn't feel a single ripple of spirit energy.
"Without the ripples of spirit energy, it seems totally fake. I can't believe I only found out about this now." She laughed self-deprecatingly.
She finally understood things clearly. The scene earlier on had changed too quickly, not giving her any chance to react. She subconsciously used her spirit energy to block it.
"How did I end up seeing this?" She was rather bewildered.
"Wu wu-"
Little Black nipped at the edge of her skirt to remind her of its existence.
Sima You Yue squatted down and patted it on the head, saying, "Were you the one who let me see this?"

Although it had no more spirit energy, it could still do something like this.
"Then why did you bring me here?"

A man came beside a woman, helping to defend her against a barrage of attacks.
"Your wounds haven't healed yet, why did you run out here?!" The lady shouted towards the man.
"Even if they haven't healed, I can't toss you aside without caring about you." The man said, "Relax, I won't die."
"You don't usually care about me, so why are you pretending to treat me well now." She shouted at him.
The man ignored her and continued to protect her from behind, fighting off the enemies.
"Go back! I don't want you to follow after me!" The lady cried out.
"If you have the energy to talk, you might as well deal properly with those beside you." The man said icily.
The lady looked at the man's back and her tears flowed down nonstop.
"Why…" The lady shook her head and said, fighting back tears, "Why do you have to do this…"
Someone came close to the lady. Then, before she realised, the man turned around and happened to see this dangerous scene. He hurriedly came back to pull her to the side.
"Don't zone out!" The man shouted at the lady.
"Then you tell me, what have you come over here for? I am already used to being alone. I don't need you to run over here to accompany me!"
The man looked at the lady and stayed silent for a long time, saying, "If you insist that you need an answer, fine. I'll tell you. I like you. No matter whether we live or die, I have to be with you."
"Then why were you always so cold to me before."
"I wasn't being cold. I merely never felt like I was a person who could stand by your side. You're so outstanding that you deserve someone even better."

Although she dared not speak highly of the fact that the two of them only got together at the end, she didn't know what happened to them before this. That was why she didn't want to comment on their final choice.
In the midst of this kind of battle, there were many like this. However, the ones who could hold on to this point numbered very, very little.
She watched as they fought together. Those resolute gazes and the love in their eyes did move her quite a bit.
It was just a pity that in this battle, there was no victory to be won in the end.

I have seen them on the TV, they are just like us. They have normal jobs, normal families - well, as normal as it can get - and they look just like us."

"Ceci, Pumpkin, they might be all of those but they don't eat like us. They kill in order to survive."

"But Papa! So do we!" The little girl was now throwing a tantrum. She just didn't understand why her Papa, and especially her Mama warned her to stay away from the people of the night. Her Papa fixed her floral sundress and then patted her head. This caused the little girl to wear a gigantic pout with crossed arms.  He then took her small oval face in his gigantic,  calloused hands and stared hard in her blue hazel eyes.  He then used one hand to pinch her small nose and the other to put away the pout from her full heart shaped lips.

"Celicia, those creatures are are called vampires for a reason. They feed on blood. Human blood. Do you want them to feed from you?" 

The little girl hurriedly shook her head. Fear visible in her eyes.

"Good. Now let's go pick some flowers while we're here to give your Mama more time to finish decorating your birthday cake."

A bright smile spread across her face.

10 years later

"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Ceci! Happy birthday to you!..."

The crowd of friends and family was gathered around the girl in front of a birthday cake with 16 candles on it. 

"Ceci! Happy birthday! I can't believe it has been 16 years since you were on this Earth!" A brown haired beauty came running with outstretched hands with a small box in her right. 

"Auri! I'm so glad you could make it! I was worried you wouldn't get to finish your project on time." Two beauties hugged each other. 

"And miss my best friend's sweet 16? Never!" Auriela pulled away and took a good look at her friend. Trying to find a difference in her appearance since she was now sixteen. 

"Gosh Auri! Don't look at me so deeply I might think you're checking me out." Ceci said this with an eyeroll and both girls ended up laughing. 

"In your dreams I am! Anyways here. I got you a little something." Auriela then gave Celicia the small blue box with a white ribbon. 

"Thanks Auri, you didn't need to. But I'm glad you did! I'll open it now." Rapidly untying the bow she saw a teardrop shaped pendant on a silver chain. Behind it a picture was shown of the both of them laughing at the camera. "Auriela Williams, how much did you take to save to buy me a diamond teardrop necklace with a picture of us at the back?"

Auriela gave a shrug. "Well I would say my whole year of savings. It's no big deal, it's not that expensive." 

Tears came to Celicia's eyes but they didn't fall on her rosy cheeks. She grabbed her friend and hugged her tightly not wanting to let go.

"Thank you."

*Later that year*

"Mother, has father returned yet? He's usually here by 7. It's now 8. What if something happened to him?" Celicia had her long red-brown hair in a high messy bun with a worried look on her beautiful oval face. She was looking at her mother that had the same color hair as her in a Bob cut. One leg was on the arm of the recliner while the other on the wooden floor. She had on a yellow tshirt and a green and yellow plaid pyjama pants. A vodka bottle was in her right hand while her left was trying to rub the headache away from her heart shaped face. 

"Celicia, I don't know what's wrong right now. Just stop talking. When he comes he comes. I just hope nothing too drastic is happening."

Ceci let out a sigh and went up to her room. 

Later that night she heard a commotion downstairs. She went to check it out. What she saw was something she would never forget. 

Her mother had a knife in her hand, stabbing at the beast that was biting on her neck. She was trying to use the remainder of her strength to defend the remainder of her life. Celicia was traumatized, she was frozen on the stairs. A scream wouldn't even leave her mouth afraid to gain the attention of the beast.

She finally saw it slump on her mother. She finally regained her motor skills and ran the remainder of the way down the stairs. She helped her mother to take him off of her. The monster dropped on it's back but she paid it no mind, running to catch her mother that was now falling to her knees. She hurriedly went to the kitchen to turn on the lights and got some clean table towels to wrap around her mother's neck and well as a glass of water, but on her way back she saw the face of the attacker. This froze her in her tracks. The towels fell from her hands and the water glass crashed to the floor disturbing the silence of the night and splashed water on both her  and her mother.

"Mom... why does he look like my Dad?"

"Ceci, just listen to Papa. Stay away from those creatures OK?"

The little girl with red-brown hairs nodded with a dejected frown on her face.

"Yes, Papa." Came the reply from her chime like voice. She then looked at the tall, handsome and strongly built man kneeled in front of her. "But can Papa tell me why? I have seen them on the TV, they are just like us. They have normal jobs, normal families - well, as normal as it can get - and they look just like us." 

Her Papa let out a sigh.

"Ceci, Pumpkin, they might be all of those but they don't eat like us. They kill in order to survive."

"But Papa! So do we!" The little girl was now throwing a tantrum. She just didn't understand why her Papa, and especially her Mama warned her to stay away from the people of the night. Her Papa fixed her floral sundress and then patted her head. This caused the little girl to wear a gigantic pout with crossed arms.  He then took her small oval face in his comparatively gigantic,  calloused hands and stared hard in her blue hazel eyes that matched his.  He then used one hand to pinch her small nose and the other to put away the pout from her full heart shaped lips.

"Celicia, those creatures are called vampires for a reason. They feed on blood. Human blood. Do you want them to feed from you?" 

The little girl hurriedly shook her head. Fear visible in her eyes.

"Good. Now let's go pick some flowers while we're here to give your Mama more time to finish decorating your birthday cake."

A bright smile spread across her face.

What happens when your life gets turned upside down? 

Her father getting bitten by a rogue vampire gets away and returns home, only to try and kill his family to quench his thirst. 

What will they do? Do they kill or be killed?

Grey dawn's frosty fingers pushed past the edges of the hide covering the cave entrance and dispelled the coal-black darkness. Cold waves seeped into the living space, prowling like a four-legged intruder, belly close to the ground. The rough-hewn log pallets Torrocka and Tarn slept on were elevated off the cavern's rock floor to help prevent the chill from disturbing their occupants. It did not work well during the coldest winter months. And this Asgard winter was quickly becoming the coldest in memory. Though it was fall, already the temperatures were those of early winter. Only a warm hearth fire banished an Asgard winter, but the roaring fire had long ago burned down to a bed of warm ash; the Sword Chamber priest was too warm and comfortable to start the day's fire from the coals that survived. Especially when there was a much younger inhabitant moving about the cave, already tossing kindling into the hearth. Sharp snapping sounds followed as they added larger wood. Long exhalations of breath told the priest his young charge blew upon the fire, coaxing the first flames into being.
Smiling contentedly, Torrocka huddled beneath two furs with his knees drawn to his chest, hardly more than a lump, when Tarn went to the table to break his fast. Between his first and second plates of cheese, meat, oatcakes, and bread, Torrocka left his furs to stand in front of the fire while the cave warmed. He put a kettle next to the fire to heat. Crackling flames made the space somehow friendlier and more inviting. Tarn grunted a greeting, disdaining to engage in idle conversation while the more serious matter of placating his rumbling stomach stole his concentration.
Hunger appeased, Tarn went to buckle his sword around his waist, saying, "Let us scout the pass. My village awaits."
"Were ye planning to travel like that?"
"Aye, since I canna fly, walk I must" quipped Tarn, fastening his cloak.
Torrocka snorted derisively and removed a pair of teardrop-shaped, wooden-framed, sinew-woven objects off the wall beside the exit, and tossed them to Tarn, who caught them deftly.
"Attach them to thy boots. They will allow you to walk on top of the snow. I call them snow walkers."
"What will ye use?"
"The pass is closed, even to one such as you. Ye might consider hunting ere ye return. There are spears over there to replace the one you lost," said Torrocka, pointing to the corner. "There's an axe on the other side. Take it with you it in case the leopard is frozen solid."
Grunting his reply, Tarn picked out a well-balanced spear to add to his own, stuck the axe handle beneath his sword belt, and stepped outside into a winter day, warmed by a fugitive autumn sun. He followed Torrocka's instructions and lashed the snow walkers to his boots with long leather straps. Despite stumbling about some and stepping on one snow walker with the other, he managed not to fall. Much to his delight, the equipment allowed him to walk on top of the snow. After a few hundred paces, he adapted to the unfamiliar stride, discovering he moved far quicker with the snow walkers than without. Truly he seemed to fly over the knee-deep blanket and the much deeper drifts bothered him not at all.
In much less than an hour, Tarn reached the site where he had killed the snow leopard and began digging with the head of one of the snow walkers. Two feet down he struck the intact, frozen carcass. Leaving the frozen leopard to partially thaw in the sun, he jogged toward the pass.
As he rounded the corner of jagged rocks he passed days earlier, the mouth of the pass came into view. Tons of snow had slid down the V-shaped mountainsides carrying, wood, boulders, and other debris. Whole trees were upended, their roots in the air, their trunks broken like so many matchsticks. Nature's carnage plugged the narrow cleft. And it would remain shut until the thaw. He returned to the frozen carcass.
Cleaning the cat was more of a matter of chopping through the crystallised organs with the axe than cutting them loose. And though snow leopard meat was not prized for its taste or tenderness, it was nevertheless nourishing, and the shorthaired tawny fur would make excellent winter attire. Tarn hoisted part of the stiff carcass across his shoulders and turned for the cave, replaying Torrocka's tale of his heritage.
The Ramka: the awakening. What an odd sensation. His blood had stirred, burning hot as pins and needles stabbed him before it cooled. Close at the heels of the electric vitality that had swept through him, as if every cell in his body awoke at once, followed a sense of belonging to the land—as though he were connected by an invisible thread. Beneath his boots, and under the snow, he felt the ground sleeping. The wind, skirling through the trees, keening like a shrill flute, spoke to him. Impossible. If he tried, Tarn almost heard its message that warned of cold weather. The entrance of the cave snatched his fanciful thoughts back to the present. He strode through the hide flap believing that a small residue of the snow leopard's venom yet plagued him.
After tossing the leopard haunch on the cave floor, he turned expectantly to Torrocka and received an 'I told you so' look.
Ere Torrocka spoke, Tarn said, "I hunt. Ye cook."
As he spun on his heels, Tarn heard Torrocka grumble something unintelligible about ungrateful barbarian youths. Several more trips were necessary to fetch the remainder of the big cat.

When Kalen, the God Protector of Atlantis, departed the mortal world, he promised that a child would be born to Atlantis in a time of great need and sorrow. Kalen foretold that this boy would one day wield his mighty sword.
Standing on the mainland, Tarn, Kalen's child of prophecy, watched Atlantis slip beneath the waves in a pyroclastic cloud of fire and ash. Kalen did not foretell that Tarn would be but a child when Atlantis sank. He never mentioned that Tarn would be battle-trained in Asgard. He did not portend that Tarn was destined to be the last warrior of Atlantis. 
Ill-suited to his fated role, with only his warrior training to protect him, Tarn must face Wotan, the God of the Hunt, and all who worship him. Beset by dark wizards and their followers, Tarn must find Kalen's sword and then learn how to harness its powers. First, however, Tarn must unravel Kalen's prophecy and become a Guardian Defender, the last warrior from Atlantis.
